Next Week Singles: U2, Pussycat Dolls, Taylor Swift, Children Collide, Sneaky Sound System. Next Week Albums: 2009 Grammy Nominees, Doves, Kings of Leon (Tour Ed.), India Arie, Morrissey, So You Think You Can Dance 2009. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Fray stay for a third week at No.1 in Australia with "You Found Me", and cement that position by being at the top on the overall, digital and physical sales charts. And with their album out this week, it could give them a clean sweep at the top, although they do have to compete with the Tour Edition of "Only By the Night" by Kings of Leon, which ties in (of course) with their current tour.
Taylor Swift again makes a major leap up the charts with "Love Story", which has now gone 38-14-8-2 in it's four weeks on the charts, and with the CD Single out next week, it could help her to her first chart-topper. After peaking last week, both "Get Shaky" and :My Life Would Suck Without You" fall back on place to No.3 and No.7 respectively. And there are two new entries to the Top 10, as "Gives You Hell" by The All-American Rejects not only becomes their first Top 50 hit, but now a Top 5 hit (up from No.12), and after 23 weeks of steady climbing (and occasional dropping), "Walking on a Dream" does a 'Faker', by climbing into the Top 10 at No.10, thanks in part to a Triple J 100 placing, and a giant boost from downloads (8 from 13).
Other big movers this week include "Like it Loud" by Cassie Davis, up 8 places to No.11. "The Fear" by Lily Allen up five spots to No.13 now becomes her highest placed single in Australia ("Smile" peaked at No.14). ""Eh, Eh (Nothing Else I Can Say)" moves up to No.19, now giving Lady GaGa her third Top 20 single in Australia, and up ten places to No.26 is "America's Suitehearts" by Fall Out Boy, helped by a No.23 physical debut, and also debuting at No.22 in the physical chart is Saving Abel, which is up eleven spots to No.39 with their "Addicted" single. But the two big movers, both up 16 places, are "Everybody's Free" by Global Deejays featuring Rozella (No.18 from 34), and "We Are the People" by Empire of the Sun is at No.24 (from No.40), which also helps their album climb to a new height of No.6 this week.
Beyonce's 13th solo (or non D.C. single) is the highest new entry to the Top 50 this week, "Halo" coming in at No.29 (up from No.92), and is the third single from her "I Am... Sacha Fierce" album (No.14 this week). It follows on from "If I Were a Boy" (No.3, drops from Top 50 this week), and "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)" (No.5, No.15 this week).
Last week, T.I.'s former No.13 single "Whatever You Like" left the Top 50, but up from No.63 to No.37 this week is the third single from his "Paper Trail" album (No.37 this week too), "Dead and Gone", which features Justin Timberlake on backing vocals, repaying the debt that T.I. did for him on his "My Love" single (No.3, Nov 2006).
Sam Sparro gets his second Top 50 single thanks to 'So You Think You Can Dance', as "21st Century Life" leaps back into Top 100 at No.42 this week. The song originally hit No.52 for three broken weeks from mid-September 2008, but has been used as the dance track on the show this past weeks, and downloads have driven it back into the charts, now losing him his one-hit-wonder status.
The fourth single (but third Top 50) from "Only By the Night" by Kings of Leon, entitled "Revelry", is in at No.43 this week, having gone from No.96 two weeks ago, to No.67 last week, and now into the Top 50, it's sure to keep climbing as their national tour is about to kick off.
Kings of Leon now become the only act this decade to occupy the No.1 position in Australia for 10 weeks. There are only now three albums this decade which have spent more time at the top of the album charts, but two are in easy reach of being beaten in the next couple of weeks. With their national tour starting on the 8th of March and continuing around the country until the 22nd before heading over to New Zealand for the rest of March, it'll most likely help keep the album flying at the top of the charts. The albums above KOL are: 27wks - Innocent Eyes - Delta Goodrem 12wks - Back to Bedlam - James Blunt 11wks - Moulin Rouge - Soundtrack 10wks - Only By the Night - Kings of Leon
The entire Top 5 stays stable this week, but moving to a new peak of No.6 is Empire of the Sun with their "Walking on a Dream" album, helped by a new Top 10 single, and one of the two biggest climbing single of the week, and that one being the No.1 Club Chart single for a third week, has all helped contribute to the albums new success. Taylor Swift also reaches a new peak of No.7 with her "Fearless" album, and the returning series of "Packed to the Rafters" on TV this past week has helped that show's Soundtrack to climb back up to No.8 this week (one shy of it's former peak). And lastly, Akon's "Freedom" album is at a new peak of No.20, up from No.27.
Regards, Gavin Ryan.

so grateful to see taylor doing so well! i hope itll hit the top of the charts soon! when was the last time female country artists reach so high? dixie chicks? hope well see Kelly n P!nk zoom up the chart upon physical release!! also hope that 11 is as far as cassie davis can go
btw since kelly clarkson charted on physical means thats its released in stores, can anyone with the copy tell me the tracklisting? seems different sources tell me different things Last edited:
Leeann Rimes & Shania Twain have been 2 female country acts to do an ok job in Oz even before they went mainstream pop.
I am surprised to see Kelly not go top 5. I don't think her song will be as big as first expected.
Great to see so many new hits in this weeks chart, we are not too far behind America as most of these hits are still climbing up their charts too.
I love that Britney Spears has had a big drop out of the top 10. I'd like to see her drop out of the chart altogether.
Stoked T.I & Justin Timberlakes song debuted this week. I am a fan of this song and much prefer it to the song he (T.I) did with Rihanna.
Next week should see some Grammy performers and big winners re-enter the top 50. Possibly Duffy & Coldplay even Ne-Yo? The last 2 years after the Grammies have seen big winners such as Dixie Chicks & Amy Whinehouse re-enter the chart after they dominated at the award show so this year should be no different.
I am also glad to see Empire of the Sun score a top 10 hit even though it should have been a top 10 hit 3 months ago. Better late than never I guess. Thank Christ it stopped Cassie Davis from going top 10. Another song I'm not particularly fond of.
The tracklisting for the Kelly Clarkson single is the main version of 'My Life' and then an instrumental version.
I can't decide whether I would have preferred Cassie Davis to beat out Empire of the Sun for the top 10 spot or not. On one hand, she's irritating, but I'm not a fan of EotS either particularly. And no doubt they'll be going down pretty quickly now, whereas Like It Loud will probably be top 10 next week.
I expect Kelly Clarkson and Pink to rise next week, with a full week's physical sales behind them. We only got 'My Life' on the shelves on Friday morning, but I know others had it on Wednesday afternoon.
Surprised to see Gives You Hell doing so well. I've long been a fan of the All-American Rejects, and don't mind this song, but they've had better. It's strange that this has been their breakthrough hit, and such a big one at that.
Bluezombie I couldn't agree with you more about the All-American Rejects. They have had some great songs which have failed to chart in Oz and their latest single which I am too a fan of is what is getting them some success down under. Shame Oz didn't embrace their previous singles cos they have all been great tracks.
Natalie Bassinghtwaithe's latest single is alright considering I have hated all her previous singles she has had vocals on. This single has a Cascada sound to it.
I only just noticed that "Get On Your Boots" by U2 has dropped out of the Top 50 this week. When the report comes through, I'll let you know where it fell to.

Do anyone have the chart positions for 'Embrace' by Pnau and 'Shut up and let me go' by The Ting Tings. I expect they are in the 51-100 range.
Also a big congratulations to Empire of the Sun with 'Walking on a Dream' finally after a mammoth 5 months on the chart goes top ten, against all odds (a quirky sounding alternative pop song) they did it! It took them 23 weeks inside the top 50 to reach the top ten. Could this be a record for the slowest rise into the top ten of all time? Get out your chart books guys. hehe
Finally on the Cassie Davis song is it any worse than Britney, Pink, Christina, etc etc? For me I can't really tell the difference. In the film clip she seems to roam around the gym/warehouse/stage like she owns the joint. I am not exactly a fan but given the sharp rise up the chart it seems like this might be a big top 5 hit whether you guys like it or not.
Im mega pissed "Thinking Of You" will be physical released in a couple of weeks, "One Of The Boys" would be a mega hit if released worldwide.
I also think "It;s Not Me, It's You" by Lily Allen will be chance debut in top 5. That song is doing major things, and could in fact become a otp 10 certified Hit. The album is growing on me. Last edited:
I too am surprised to see The All American Rejects doing well with Gives You Hell. 'It Ends Tonight' should have been their breakthrough hit in Australia not this Gives You Hell rubbish.
Im so happy "Caught In The Crowd" by "Kate Miller-Heidke" is getting a physicale release. Its the bets track on the album, and although im 100% sure it wont chart, if it does, it will most likely be from the 80-90 range, but alot of Physical copes will need to be sold.
Also with "Bottle Pop" by PCD. That definately wont chart based on CD sales, as ive still yet to hear it on the radio, asnd with Physical sales decreasing the single just doesnt have a chance.
Bottle Pop has been delayed a month til mid March for a single release. and while it's not exactly a great song, the middle 8 is fucking awesome and possible the best 20 seconds of music i've heard in a long time.
and I'm so glad Flo Rida is #1 on itunes. his new song is bloody great and catchy as hell. it's gonna be #1 next week i feel. and for a very long time.
BeansterBarnes will there ever be a day where u don't say shit about pop music.

I read your Personal BeansterBarnes. Enjoyed reading what you like at the moment. Some of my favorite songs at the moment are in there. Highlights for me were the 2 Nickelbacks, Faker - Sleepwalking and The Killers - Human.
I normally don't like country music, but I really like Taylor Swift. I enjoy the whole of the Fearless album, and even her older stuff. Love Story is my personal #1 at the moment. That said, I think the Fray have held her off this week.
As for Flo Rida, I'm not a fan yet. It may grow on me in the future the way 'Low' did, but even if it does, it will suffer the same fate as Low, and only be fleeting like.
My predictions:
1. You Found Me 2. Love Story 3. Gives You Hell 4. Get Shaky 5. My Life Would Suck Without You 6. Let It Rock 7. Everybody's Free 8. Burn 9. Someday Soon 10. Like It Loud 11. The Fear 12. Poker Face 13. Right Round 14. Circus 15. Use Somebody 16. Single Ladies 17. Rock N Roll 18. Halo 19. Please Don't Leave Me 20. Walking On A Dream (down to #31 on iTunes, and has been relying heavily on digital sales, I think it'll be lucky to still be top 20.)
1. You Found Me 2. Love Story 3. Gives You Hell 4. Right Round 5. Get Shaky 6. Let It Rock 7. My Life Would Suck Without You 8. Everybody's Free 9. The Fear 10. Someday Soon 11. Burn 12. The 3 contenders for #1 today are Taylor Swfit - Love Story, The Fray - You Found Me and Flo Rida - Right Round. Which one will be #1, who knows because I have no idea.

Although this weeek i probably shouldnt of put Fuck you as number 20 i cant see it going to 20 just yet.
Also a question is it true Burn By Jessica mauboy has been banned from the radio (i can see why) but its probably gonna be affected in sales now. Last edited:

Mono36 in answer to your question about Jessica Mauboy it is true. Here's a quote I found.
"Bushfires Response "Burn" became the fourth most-played single on Australian radio, however in February 2009, the song was removed following the 2009 Victorian bushfires because of its title. Mauboy's manager, David Champion, stated that Mauboy was understanding and supportive of the decision."
