Pink's "So What" is No.1 for a fourth week, and with her in the country next week for the ARIA Awards, it could stay there for another week or two. She has now had a single week No.1, "Most Girls", two weeker with "Get the Party Started", and three-week-stay with "Lady Marmalade", so now she completes her 1-2-3-4 No.1 singles by staying atop for that fourth week. She also created chart history in the UK this week by gaining the biggest jump to No.1, leaping up from No.38 to the top, stepping over new singles from Oasis and the comeback track for BoyZone, onya luv. By "So What" staying at the top, it now accumulates 33 weeks at the top of the Australian charts for female performers this year, equaling the record set in 1973 by female-led acts. If Pink stays at the top for another week (or any other females this year), 2008 will become the year of "Most Weeks at No.1 by Female Acts".
The No.1 download song for a third week is Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours", which climbs to a new peak of No.3 this week, and also moving up one place to a new peak of No.4 is Kings of Leon's "Sex on Fire". The other new highest placing in the Top 10 this week is MGMT's "Electric Feel" which climbs up to spots to No.7. Nothing new enters the Top 10 this week, with Jessica Mauboy climbing to No.11 (from last weeks No.13 debut), and should enter the Top 10 next week as the CD Single is out this coming week.
"Dance Wiv' Me" by Dizzee Rascal is the biggest climbing single, up 7 places to No.13 this week, while three other tracks all climb up six places. "Whatever You Like" by T.I. is up to No.19, "Walking on a Dream" by Empire of the Sun is up to No.28, and the third is the Jonas Brothers' "Burnin' Up", now up to No.32.
"Womanizer" by Britney Spears was available to download from Tuesday the 7th, and after five days of downloads, it has amassed enough to debut at No.16 this week. The CD Single for it is released November 1st, but before then it will probably climb into the Top 10. It becomes her 21st Top 50 single, and is the first track from her end-of-November released album "Circus".
Kate Miller-Heidke hit No.43 in the first week of July 2007 with her debut single "Words". Now she is back with the first track from next week's released "Curiouser", it's called "Can't Shake it", and debuts at No.38. Other than being a great (and slightly rude) single, it has been picked as one of the new NOVA TV Commercial songs.
MGMT's first single "Time to Prepare" made the Top 60 in June, and are currently up to a new peak of No.7 with "Electric Feel", and now debuting at No.40 is the third single from this week's No.9 album "Oracular Spectacular", entitled "Kids", which debuts on downloads alone.
The second single from "Doll Domination" by The Pussycat Dolls debuts on downloads alone at No.45 this week, entitled "I Hate This Part", it has a physical release of early November, and is the follow-up to the former No.2 single "When I Grow Up".
Snow Patrol have had No.1's in Australia before, on the album charts and the download-only chart (before amalgamation), but only had one Top 50 single, that being "Signal Fire", which hit No.22 in May 2007. They now have their second Top 50 single, as "Take Back the City" debuts at No.48, the first single off their forthcoming "A Hundred Million Suns" which is out at the end of October.
The third single by Leona Lewis debuts at No.50 on downloads, entitled "Forgive Me" it helps bring her "Spirit" album back up the charts to No.40 this week.
Kings of Leon's "Only By the Night" becomes only the fifth (out of 21) No.1 albums this year to spend more than two weeks at the top, logging their third week this past week. "Shock Value" by Timbaland, "Sleep Through the Static" by Jack Johnson, "Viva La Vida" by Coldplay and the "Mamma Mia!" Soundtrack all have spent three weeks or more at the top (in fact they've all spent four or more), so with the Kings' staying at the top for another week they gain the fifth longest running No.1 album of 2008. But with Augie March and Keane releasing new albums this week, their further No.1 run could be in jeopardy.
Australia's Josh Pyke is the highest new album of the week, coming in at No.3 (the first of four Top 10 entries) with "Chimney's Afire". It beats the No.4 peak of his March 2007 album "Memories and Dust".
"Dig Out Your Soul" by Oasis debuts at No.5 to become their sixth Top 10 album in Australia, and their first in over three years. Their previous efforts were... 18-Sep-94*HP-23*WI-29 - Definitely Maybe 22-Oct-95*HP-01*WI-52 - (What's the Story) Morning Glory? (5 weeks) 31-Aug-97*HP-01*WI-10 - Be Here Now (1 week at No.1) 03-Nov-98*HP-36*WI-01 - The Masterplan 12-Mar-00*HP-06*WI-04 - Standing on the Shoulder of Giants 14-July-02*HP-04*WI-09 - Heathen Chemistry 19-Jun-05*HP-05*WI-05 - Don't Believe the Truth 03-Dec-06*HP-34*WI-02 - Stop the Clocks 13-Oct-08*HP-05*WI-01* - Dig Out Your Soul
Chicago four-piece Rise Against had their first charting album with their fourth album "The Sufferer and The Witness" which reached No.21 in July 2006. Now their fifth album "Appeal to Reason" becomes their first Top 10 album by debuting at No.7 this week.
Right behind at No.8 is the debut album for the duo of Sleepy Jackson's Luke Steele and Pnau's Nick Littlemore known as Empire of the Sun. "Walking on a Dream" is the name of the album, as too is the single which jumps up six places to a new peak of No.28. By debuting at No.8, it gives them both their highest placed albums in their charting history. Sleepy Jackson's last album "Personality-One Was a Spider, One Was a Bird" peaked at No.10 (July 2006), and Pnau's highest placed album was their self-titled album from March this year, which reached No.31.
Third album from The Amity Affliction called "Severed Ties" becomes their first Top 50 album here in Australia, debuting at No.26 this week. And another Shock released album comes in at No.28, that being the second album for Sheffield, England's Bring Me the Horizon, with their new album "Suicide Season".
"Paper Trails" by T.I. sneaked into the Top 100 last week at No.98, now it enters the Top 50 at No.30 this week to give him his highest placed album on the Australian album charts.

Yes i watched Katy Perry on Rove Live, and she was great live, with a rock remix of "I Kissed a Girl".
During the outdoor performance she jumped off stage briefly to greet fans, then started freaking out when they all tried to touch her, so she turned around and smiled then lifted herself back up on stage, rested for a while, then continued with the performance.
She was quirky and funny and treated everyone well, with a no diva attitude, and the glare in her eyes is hilarious, its like she never blinks. The dress was great, it was pink with dots and suited her svelte figure.
She was very bubbly, and often did twirls and started to spin her body around, it was sooo funny.
Yes billbeast, that is right. For example, Miley Cyrus' 'See You Again' was certified platinum on downloads alone. Radar won't enter the Top 50 now, it's nearly on it's way out on the Top 100 songs on itunes. The focus is now on Womanizer, which will jump into the Top 10 next week.
1) Will Pink be knocked from the top spot this week & if so by who?
This week the battle will be between Pink & Kings Of Leon. Jason Mraz has lost his chance at #1. Kings Of Leon has replaced Jason Mraz at #1 on the digital charts and also have physical contributing to it's sales where Jason Mraz doesn't. So the only song I think can replace Pink this week is Sex On Fire.
2) Do you think Katy Perry will manage a top 5 peak with Hot n Cold this week & can I Kissed A Girl re-enter the top 20?
Yes, I think Katy will have 2 top 20 hits this week. I Kissed A Girl will rise a few spots and if she is premoting Hot n Cold than that should move up to but not if she does that horrible version she did yesterday on Nova.
3) What songs will leave the top 10 this week & what will replace them?
I think Closer & Disturbia will leave the top 10 this week and be replaced by Womanizer and Running Back.
4) Will Dizzee Rascal continue to rise?
No, I think it has reached it's peak. I don't see it moving up much more.
5) Will Lady Gaga's Poker Face eventually be a hit?
Yes, she'll score another top 20 hit. Poker face wont be anywhere near as big as Just Dance but should peak around #15 once the physical is released.
Closer, Disturbia & Shake It will probably drop out of the top 10 and be replaced by Womanizer, Running Back & Gotta Be Somebody (if it continues to rise on the digital chart).
Womanizer was #4 on Itunes on the w/e but has slipped back to #5 today so perhaps the hype for this single is already over. I'm pretty confident this wont get #1 this week, it still does have a chance once the physical is released.
Running Back should rise due to the fact it's physical was released this week. Plus Jessica Mauboy took advantage of Idol and performed it live on tonights show. So this should definetly make the top 10 this week.
Kings Of Leon's Sex On Fire is now #1 on Itunes, aided by one of the Idol contestants singing it on last nights show I imagine. With both physical and digital sales this has a good chance at the top spot this week.
Katy Perry is also currently in Oz so this could only mean good things for her singles. Hot n Cold could possably go top 5 this week.
Lady Gaga & Kid Rock will both drop this week. LG will have a big drop. Pink is currently #4 on Itunes so this might see her be replaced from the top.
As of now I predict the top 10 to look something like this: 1. Sex On Fire 2. So What 3. I'm Yours 4. Hot n Cold 5. Running Back 6. Womanizer 7. Electric Feel 8. Just Dance 9. All Summer Long 10. Gotta Be Somebody or Shake It (depending on digital sales).
The best album for 2008 according to BJMC is Indestructable by Disturbed. On review it is so far (incredibly) the only album for this entire year to recieve a 5-star rating. BJMC also states that Death Magnetic by Metallica is the second best album for 2008. However, no official review has been published to this date.
Amazed? Wait there's more...
Even more incredible "Inside The Fire" the single from the Disturbed album is currently #4 for the top fifty songs this entire decade!
Why didn't release Breakin Dishes as planned. It was supposed to be released after Dont Stop The Music but then the next three shit songs came out. Rehab is still goob but Breaking Dishes is way better.
Peak in the top 50 singles will be......
Leona Lewis- Forgive Me (49-30) I Hate This Part- PCD (40-30) Poker Face-Lady GAga (20-18) Womanizer-Britney (10-1) Thats Not My Name-Ting Tings (14-10) Running Back-Jessica Mauboy (10-1)
I think Pink will unfortunately fall to 3 Sex On Fire will go to 2 Im Yours will take the poll position
#1 Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire. #2 Pink - So What. #3 Jessica Mauboy & Flo Rida - Running Back. #4 Lady GaGa, Colby O'Donis & Akon - Just Dance. #5 Katy Perry - Hot 'N' Cold. #6 Jason Mraz - I'm Yours. #7 Kid Rock - All Summer Long. #8 MGMT - Electric Feel. #9 Britney Spears - Womanizer. #10 Metro Station - Shake It. #11 Ne-Yo - Closer. #12 Rihanna - Disturbia. #13 Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris & Chrome - Dance Wiv Me. #14 T.I. - Whatever You Like. #15 Miley Cyrus - 7 Things. #16 Jordin Sparks - One Step At A Time. #17 Ting Tings - That's Not My Name. #18 September - Cry For You. #19 Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody. #20 Nickelback - Gotta Be Somebody.
NEW Entries... Top 50. Nickelback - Gotta Be Somebody. Killers - Human. Kaiser Chiefs - Never Miss A Beat. Secondhand Serenade - Fall For You.
EXIT... Top 50. Sara Bareilles - Love Song. Ricki-Lee - Wiggle It. Vanessa Amorosi - The Simple Things (Something Emotional). Flo Rida & T-Pain - Low.
--> Will Pink be knocked from the top spot this week... If so by who? -- Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire. A performance on Australian Idol will seal the deal. Only one week atop before Pink - So What steals back pole position.
-->Do you think Katy Perry will manage a top 5 peak with Hot 'N' Cold this week... Can I Kissed A Girl re-enter the top 20? -- Hot 'N' Cold will spend one week at #5 this week. I Kissed A Girl will be #21.
--> What songs will leave the top 10 this week... What will replace them? -- Rihanna - Disturbia, Ne-Yo - Closer both out! Jessica Mauboy & Flo Rida - Running Back, Britney Spears - Womanizer both in!
--> Will Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris & Chrome - Dance Wiv Me continue to rise? -- Yes, hopefully peak at #10.
--> Will Lady Gaga - Poker Face eventually be a hit? -- Yes. not as big as her debut Just Dance.
Also would just like to add... Anastacia - I Can Feel You is a really poor return, especially that Australia is one of her bigger selling markets. It will reflect in her chart position.
1) Kings of Leon will definately climb up the top, but only for a week before p!nk reclimb with extra downloads. However, she will drop fast as attention move to the new album & secong single. 2) Just in top 5 this week with help of promotion, but might drop until the physical is released 3) Ne*yo and RIhanna will drop out and replaced by Britney and Jessica 4) Didnt know where the sudden rise in sale came from, this will unfotunatly be the peak as downloads has gone down 5) i think i would JUSt make it into the top 10 eventually
I agree with Nate about Anastacia, shame that it might not even make the top 50, its not even getting much airplay
interesting seeing Jessica's B-sides for her EP charting in itunes, if it does chart next week that makes the first B-side to chart in ARIA charts??
No, colindacascadaho...Powderfinger did it earlier this year with "One More Kiss As You Fly Away". Only one I can think of off the top of my head.
Strange that they should count as a separate entry though. If it's sold under the banner of being the single (in Powderfinger's case "Who Really Cares") then shouldn't it count towards THAT singles sales?
Same for album tracks...I think they should count towards the album sales. Then we wouldn't get up to (sometimes) 5 songs from an album in the singles charts that aren't actually released as singles.
I only say this because, say The Cast Of Mamma Mia entered something like 6 times (I think?) from the soundtrack without an official single release. That's 6 songs that didn't make the singles chart that were legit and maybe by artists working hard for the recognition, and need it so they CAN make an album.
41 (Ne) - Can't Shake it - Kate Miller-Heidke 42 (36) - Low - Flo Rida 43 (38) - Wiggle it - Ricki-Lee 44 (49) - Forgive Me - Leona Lewis 45 (Ne) - Take Back the City - Snow Patrol 46 (Ne) - Right Now (Na Na Na) - Akon 47 (48) - Cookie Jar - Gym Class Heroes 48 (47) - Burnin' Up - Jonas Brothers 49 (Ne) - Human - The Killers 50 (37) - Mercy - Duffy
54 - Never Miss a Beat - Kasier Chiefs 72 - Bruises - Chairlift 76 - The Lighthouse Song - Josh Pyke 81 - Another Way to Die - Jack White & Alicia Keys 82 - Let it Rock - Kevin Rudolf 96 - U Want Me 2 - Sarah McLachlan 99 - Everything But You - Brian McFadden
this wks digital chart should be void... itunes australia suddenly removed Britney's "Womanizer" late last night, which will greatly damage sales as it is starting to get more established in the chart. Im waiting on a reply from itunes support about why. This is really a disgrace. It also happened in the USA where it was sitting at no. 1 for a wk, now that position may be in jeopardy. call me a fanboy, but I think this is really unfair for any artist and the public who get them where they are on the charts.
Hi bulion, Thanks for the new entries and digital chart positions outside the 50. Just one more request are you able to give the positions outside the 50 in the main chart for any songs in the Digital Top 50 Chart that did not debut. e.g. Positions for Akon "Right Now (Na Na Na)" <last week #78> and The Killers "Human" <last week #74>. If you can it would greatly be appreciated.
1 Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire 2 Jessica Mauboy & Flo Rida - Running Back 3 Pink - So What 4 Jason Mraz - I'm Yours 5 Katy Perry - Hot 'N' Cold 6 Lady GaGa, Colby O'Donis & Akon - Just Dance 7 MGMT - Electric Feel 8 Kid Rock - All Summer Long 9 Metro Station - Shake It 10 Rihanna - Disturbia 11 Ne-Yo - Closer 12 Ting Tings - That's Not My Name 13 Dizzee Rascal, Calvin Harris & Chrome - Dance Wiv Me 14 T.I. - Whatever You Like 15 Miley Cyrus - 7 Things 16 Jordin Sparks - One Step At A Time 17 Kings Of Leon - Use Somebody 18 Nickelback - Gotta Be Somebody 19 September - Cry For You 20 Katy Perry - I kissed a Girl
Due to the fact that it is #1 on Itunes & the physical is selling well too.
Sex On Fire was also sung by a contestant on Sunday's Idol show and as that has shown in previous weeks that it is a big bonus for the song as it helps it rise (Some examples of this include Black & Gold, No Air, I'm Yours & Love song to name a few).
Wow, Jessica Mauboy's song has really taken off this week, it should bullet well into the top 5.
Toxic Boy, I'm not sure if Womanizer was deleted off Itunes but it's ranked at #8 in the top songs atm. This might mean Britney wont be as high this week as I first thought. She was at #4 on Sunday, #5 on Monday & #8 today. Not as big as it was hyped up to be.
Nicnat, I forgot to mention that Closer by Ne-Yo had a significant rise after a contestant sang it on Idol. Weeks after charting from positions 10-17 it rose to #8 the week is was sung on Idol and it still stays in the top 10. Sex On Fire should benefit from Idol too. However, Jessica Mauboy stands a good shot for the #1 position too as she herself sang on Idol on Monday and her single was physically released. Axel Whitehead managed to re-enter the top 50 (almost top 40) when he did the same thing after his song was absent from the charts for numerous months. So looks like it will be a battle between Jessica Mauboy & Kings Of Leon.
I hate to be a bother, but can anyone, if they know, list Morrissey's albums and singles' chart positions on the ARIA Charts? He seems to be more of a top 100 fixture than a top 50 one, because his only three of his albums have charted in the ARIA top 50, and those were his early 1990s material. Thanks if you can, it would be much appreciated. I'm planning to fill in Wikipedia with the information.
heres my prediction as downloads go, i dont think Britney will hit top 3 until physcial released 1 Kings Of Leon - Sex on fire 2 P!nk - So what (reclaim next week) 3 Lady GaGa - Just dance 4 Katy Perry - Hot n cold 5 Jessica Mauboy - Runnign Back 6 Jason Mraz - I'm yours 7 Kid Rock - All summer long 8 MGMT - Electric feel 9 Metro Station - Shake it 10 Britney Spears - Womanizer 11 Rihanna - Disturbia 12 Neyo - Closer 13 Miley Cyrus - 7 things 14 Ting Tings - Thats not my name 15 Jordin SParks - One step at a time 16 Dizze Rascal - Dance wiv me 17 Kings of Leon - Use Somebody 18 T.I - Whatever you like 19 Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up 20 September - Cry For YOu

Brandon, you'll need a multi-zone DVD player, which you can pick up at JB Hi-Fi for under $100. I recently bought a Panasonic one from them that had been superseded by a newer model, and it works wonderfully.

I'll fill in the other information once the charts come thru. I might not be at the computer for the start of the show, so continue on without me if you like, as I have to pick up people from the airport around 2.
I'm kinda sitting around here doing nothing, so I thought I'd try to do something different. When the time comes, I'll calculate how many positions everyone is away from the predictions. It's great to get it spot on, but I know a lot of people are only 1 or 2 away. We'll see how it goes (and how fun it is). So the lower your score - the better you're doing.
Hi bulion, I guess it also should be noted that "Chasing Cars" has Platinum accreditation next to it. Now I even more convinced that Nickelback is still not being included.
Mind you could be Secondhand Serenade not being included, but I thought they have the distributor Universal which usually includes all downloaded tracks. Bulion already knows the answer to what the other song is that debuts. Last edited:
* According to TV Week, The Living End are supposed to be the opening performers at tonight ARIA Awards.
* Previously have been nominated 23 times at the ARIAs, and this year are nominated in 4 catergories, and have in the past won 3 ARIA Awards. This year they are nominated for "Album of the Year", "Single of the Year", "Best Group" and "Best Rock Album", all for White Noise.
I don't see The Living End being strong contenders at this years Aria's. Maybe if they had released more singles they'd have a better shot. Their single was released rather late so I don't see them winning much but good luck to them if they do win.
And yes colin both the single and album version are included, just like for T.I. "Whatever You Like" the clean and explicit versions are included which is why it is charting higher than most of us think. Last edited:
* After five weeks in the Top 10, and the past two weeks sitting at No.10, "Closer" is spending it's 16th week on the charts, and 16th week within the Top 20, having been no lower down than No.17 during it's chart run.
Brandon, how on earth will Jessica Mauboy be lower than Britney?
For starters, Jessica Mauboy has a physical contributing where Britney doesn't and furthermore, Jessica has been higher on Itunes all week than Britney, before and after Britney was deleted for that one day.
No way will Britney be higher than Jessica Mauboy.
* By "So What" staying at No.1 again last week, Pink helped equal the record for most week at No.1 by female performers in a calender year, 33 weeks, which was last achieved in 1973. So if we get any more chicks-on-top during the rest of this year, we'll have a new all-time record for females at No.1 in Australia.
* ??, Henry, Colin, Nate and Rhys got this one right.
I was calculating how many places away everyone was from their predictions on Sunday's show. Just for a different outcome. But as many had Nickelback in their predictions and they were unfairly not allowed to chart I let everyone have a freebie, so everyone's song that was out the most from your predictions was taken off the tally. The "loveheart" just meant that I hadn't taken the "freebie" off your total yet. Everyone else had chosen Nickelback and had been taken off.
Don't worry, I'm not falling for anyone on this site!...heh heh.
