I started this thread to give the sport-related column its first thread.
Anyway, what AFL team does everyone support here? I'm a lifelong Western Bulldogs fan, and I'd have to say that we have a big chance this year of going all the way.
I'm a Bombers fan. I think we'll be pretty much where we were last year, fighting it out with a few teams for 7th-10th. Hopefully we can scrape in again.
I think the Dogs should be in the top four for sure, and could quite possibly reach the Grand Final. St Kilda is my tip at this early stage.
I decided to support Carlton Blues some time ago to stop people asking me who I support and me not having an answer, but I really don't care about AFL at all. Sorry to all the fans Last edited:
I support the Bombers i think we will have a crap year thanx to matthew knights for pissing off all our good talent,lloyd,lovett...and our good forwards
I also can't wait to see the fall of Geelong this year Last edited:
I wasn't a fan of Knights when he got appointed, but I think he's done a great job so far, we're certainly ahead of where I thought we'd be.
Lloyd retired, Lucas retired, and we're FAR better off without Lovett. Knights didn't cause the first two to go, and if he was the one to get rid of Lovett, then he deserves a payrise! Poor Saints.
I still tip the Cats for top four, along with Saints, Dogs and Adelaide.
I don't feel sorry for the Saints one bit! They screwed us so badly in the prelim last year, that was our f%$ game!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, this thread is doing better than what I first thought.
Previously before coming to W.A i was a Sydney boy and grew up supporting ARL/NRL and have been a Bronco's boy since inception. In the AFL I ddn't really follow it but watched the odd game here and there so i decide to follow Collingwood as my local league side was the Western Suburbs Magpies. Anyway when I came over here I had to make a final choice on who I would passionatley support because league over here is non-existant to be honest so I decide to support West Coast Eagles as my new full time footy team. It was either them or the Freemantle Dockers but i hadn't had the labotomy at the time so that ruled me out
G'day, i support Carlton. Not to sure if i want to anymore with all the off-season crap that's gone on at the club, but anyway i follow the English Priemer League (Soccer) more so... GO LIVERPOOL
I have followed Richmond for years, but they have been no good for a long time. I was a member when I lived in Melbourne and went to all the games. They are starting to rebuild so hopefully we can improve in next 2 years. I don't have high expectations of them anymore.
I have to say it is different to see these sport/hobby related message boards, but it is not a bad thing as the regular members can find out more about each other.
I Go for Hawks being Tassie and all hahaha but tassie sucks at times we miss out on everything and sometimes people forget were even Australian and think were New Zeland or something hahaha.
I thought I might post all AFL results here just for those who can't be stuffed going anywhere else:
NAB CUP ROUND 1 - WEEK 1
West Coast 1.16.12 (117) Essendon 0.12.10 (82) at Subiaco Oval, Perth
Adelaide 1.8.10 (67) Port Adelaide 2.15.15 (123) at AAMI Stadium, Adelaide
Hawthorn 3.16.12 (135) Richmond 0.9.8 (62) at MCG, Melbourne
Western Bulldogs 1.5.14 (53) Brisbane 1.5.6 (45) at Manuka Oval, Canberra
Next week:
St Kilda vs Collingwood at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne Sydney vs Carlton at Blacktown Olympic Park, Blacktown Geelong vs North Melb. at Etihad Stadium, Melbourne Fremantle vs Melbourne at Subiaco Oval, Perth
Also people, I think an AFL tipping comp would be awesome! I would be happy to manage it, but let me know here if you would like to take part. If enough people are interested, I think we should give it a go.
Hawthorn vs Western Bulldogs at Etihad (Fri N) West Coast vs Port Adelaide at Subi (Sat Twilight) St.Kilda vs Sydney at Etihad (Sat N) North Melb. vs Fremantle at Etihad (Sun Twilight)
and they wonder why Etihad looks like a piece of s**t
Go Dogs for this weekend. Since the Bombers are unlikely to make the grand final this year (just being realistic) this is the GF I'm hoping for in the main season too.
I don't like the man, but he is certainly just what the Dogs needed - a strong forward. And as it turns out, I may have been wrong about Fevola being a better choice, at the moment Hall looks like a much better pickup. Hope he retains his sanity, and then the Dogs have a great chance for the whole year.
It'll be close. After last year's season I was predicting St. Kilda to take it out, but with the addition of Barry Hall, the Dogs will prove to be a big force. I do think they'll be the two to beat, but surely it'd be too much of a fairytale to have them both in the grand final. It'd be awesome though.
I will probably edit this before the season starts (but not after) but here is my ladder prediction:
1. Western Bulldogs 2. St. Kilda 3. Geelong 4. Adelaide 5. Brisbane 6. Collingwood 7. Essendon 8. West Coast 9. Hawthorn 10. Port Adelaide 11. Carlton 12. Sydney 13. North Melbourne 14. Fremantle 15. Melbourne 16. Richmond
7-11 I find particularly close and any of those could make or miss the finals. Sydney and North will probably do better than I've guessed as well, but I hate them so it was just easier to predict them lower than try to force them upwards in that 7-11 group.
I could do one now, just give me a moment. Maybe we should keep a running ladder somewhere in this thread, given the access to tables it wouldn't be hard.
I don't follow AFL all that closely, but I'll put in these predictions to add to the mix: 1) Western Bulldogs 2) St Kilda 3) Geelong 4) Hawthorn 5) Collingwood 6) Port Adelaide 7) Brisbane 8) Carlton 9) Adelaide 10) Richmond 11) Essendon 12) West Coast 13) Fremantle 14) Sydney 15) Melbourne 16) North Melbourne
I reckon Saints may not do as well this year with the baggage from losing last year. Also think if the Dogs don't get up that our window has closed and back to drafting and getting young kids in the list.
1) Western Bulldogs 2) Geelong 3) Collingwood 4) Carlton 5) Port Adelaide 6) Hawthorn 7) Adelaide 8) St Kilda 9) Brisbane 10) Essendon 11) Fremantle 12) Richmond 13) Nth Melbourne 14) Sydney 15) West Coast 16) Melbourne
Ok, I am going to open a tipping thread separate to this (this thread can be used for AFL discussion, predictions and results), and you have a week and a bit for your round 1 tips.
Richmond 9.10 (64) vs Carlton 18.12 (120) at MCG Geelong 19.11 (125) vs Essendon 13.16 (94) at MCG Melbourne 8.13 (61) vs Hawthorn 17.15 (117) at MCG Brisbane 16.18 (114) vs West Coast 12.10 (82) at G Sydney 13.10 (88) vs St Kilda 15.6 (96) at ANZ Port Adelaide 13.18 (96) vs North Melb 12.10 (82) at AAMI Fremantle 17.16 (118) vs Adelaide 9.8 (62) at SUBI W.Bulldogs 13.15 (93) vs Collingwood 19.15 (129) at Etihad
Grand Final this week... I predicited at the start of the final series for it to be a St Kilda vs Collingwood final... and St Kilda win. My prediction will come true on Saturday.
You were. Maybe next week. It was an amazing game today, such an intense battle, surely next week can't live up to it. Shame the Saints couldn't scrounge a point right there at the end.
Saints will destroy them,Collingwood will be so buggered from this GF and 9.14 to 10.8 is horrible, collingwood don't deserve to win,14 behinds = bad kicking
WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!GO THE PIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
