That's really interesting. Wow for Sweet Disposition! Didn't expect Little Lion Man, Crossfire, Uprising or Punching in a Dream to feature either, yay that they did. I should pay more attention to the NZ charts lol.
I know it's weird about Sweet Disposition, it must have been hanging around the itunes top 100 for a little while, plus it was used in several adverts over here (and i was surprised it didn't do better in the actual charts). Same goes for Single Ladies which seems to be a constant in the top 100!
i'm most surprised to see naturally in there tbh!! Little Lion Man has had a decent run in the past few weeks (although this top 100 seems to ignore the most recent weeks since The Time and Grenade have been excluded and Firework and Raise Your Glass is so low).
I don't think the proper year end chart produced by RIANZ will be very close to this chart though. I read somewhere that iTunes is only around 70% of all downloads in New Zealand, the other 30% or so is legal downloads to mobile phones which target a different demographic so that will shake up the chart a little bit.
Great work alley, ta. The RIANZ annual chart generally does not become available until the end of January so sit tight. In a few weeks I will have the annual DVD and Compilation chart available.

Looks like the number one album for 2010 could once again be by Susan Boyle. Last year, after only five weeks in the chart with I Dreamed A Dream, Boyle scored the number one album based on sales. This year she looks set to do the same, not with her new album The Gift which is currently the fourth biggest seller for the year, but with I Dreamed A Dream. The Interim chart shows her out in front with Holy Smoke by Gin second and My Worlds by Justin Bieber third. There are only two charts to go. If Boyle can stay on top with this album, it will be the first time since the sales charts began. in 1975 where an album has been at the top twice in two years. Not bad for someone who was laughed at on UK national TV.
Check www.radioscope.co.nz for the annual radio charts for 2010. Last edited:
THAT IS AMAZING!!! Susan Boyle's album was a real chart phenomenon and I guess she does deserve #1 considering her high sales over a long period of time ... although I did pick up her album for $6.99 quite recently which is sad.
Great that Gin is #2 but it must have been a really slow year for sales.
YOU ARE THE MAN HIAM!!! i was gutted i had to work on new years eve and missed the chart! not surprised about the top two but some songs i expected to be high are so low! California Gurls! Cruel! Firework! And Need You Now totally missed the top 100! Others are a lot higher than I'd expect (Beautiful Monster, Like a G6, Pins and Needles).
On the other hand, good to see Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart, What's My Name and Dog Days Are Over, as well as the bigger hits (Teenage Dream, Airplanes, Something In The Water etc)
Each year I put together a list I call the Longevity Chart which consists of entries to chart the most weeks since the chart began. It's quite an extensive list with 53 singles charting over 30 weeks, 231 albums charting over 50 weeks, 83 compilations charting over 20 weeks, 11 Music DVD's charting over 40 weeks, and 5 Airplay singles charting over 20 weeks. Below is the Top 10 of each chart which takes us up to the end of 2010. If you want a full list, please email me on johnthetempest@gmail.com.

It's purely a Top 40 for Singles and Albums. Top 10 for Compilations, DVDs and airplay. Also Chartbitz on the RIANZ website has chart backgrounders. It's also on radioscope.co.nz where you'll find lots of NZ radio charts as well.
The annual chart is now available on the RIANZ website. It's only a Top 50 Singles and Album chart however. No DVD or Compilations chart. For a full Airplay chart, look up the RadioScope chart.
Some quick commentary: You Got Me officially scores #1. It is Scribe's second year end chart topper after Stand Up/Not Many and J Williams first. I was really hoping that Katy could score herself the year end chart topper and leapfrog Eminem feat Rihanna and J Williams but sadly this was not the case. She can take comfort in knowing that four out of the top twenty singles were from her though so it's all good.
It is interesting to note that the top nine singles of the year all peaked at #1, with #10 (Sun Goes Down) only managing a #3 peak, but must have had sustained sales throughout the year.
End of year sales spurts helped many tracks including Firework, Like a G6, Grenade and the horrible The Time (Dirty Bit).
Some surprises include the low placing of Young Blood - the track debuted at #1 and spent two weeks in total there but only made #33 of the year, the lowest placed #1. I am also surprised to see Need You Now so low but am happy that it has been included!
A few surprising exclusions that must have been closed to the top 50 include: Adam Lambert (If I Had You) (For Your Entertainment), Dukes (Vampires), Paramore (The Only Exception), Ke$ha (Your Love Is My Drug)
Across on the albums, it's easy to see that 2010 was indeed Susan Boyle's year!!! Taking out the #1 and #2 albums, this is a rare feat, I wonder if this has ever happened? Unfortunately, Gin settles for #3 despite charting for 52 weeks of the year. Glee manages to nab three spots in the top 50 which makes me incredibly happy, in at #29, #32 and #37 (the latter despite only charting for four weeks in 2010!). Once again The Naked and Famous's number one album underperforms, only managing to be in at #39
Well a bit i agree, First i think yeah Katy Perry's Calfornia Gurls was a great song, and im a guy! I think it was a awesome song and i did like it when Katy ate that gingerbread man in the video
It's also great to see to kiwi artists team up together to make #1 selling single of the year but I must say it's not actually a great song to me. Though as alleyt said Scribe becoming one of the only people to get two year end chart toppers.
Nesian Mystik should have went number 1. Way better than J.Williams will ever be despite the fact he did get number 1. "Sun Goes Down" is one of the greatest New Zealand songs ive ever heard (also Nesian 101, It's On and Nesian Style are all some of my personal favourites).
Well I would understand why some people hate The Time (Dirty Bit) but you would've got used to it by now considering their other songs. ....My Humps, my humps, my lovley lady lumps..."My Humps" was also accompinied by one of the most wierdest ugliest music video in my life. The same with "I Gotta Feeling" not refering to the lyrics so much but if you've seen the music video you'll know what I mean. not that i'm against lesbians I just think music should just be about music. NOT ABOUT ATTRACTING PEOPLE TO THE VIDEO FOR THEIR OWN SEXUAL NEEDS!
"Young Blood" supposedly a great Kiwi song but i'm telling yah. I'm just not feeling it. Please don't hate me, just putting down my opinion. I'm actually suprised it even charted in the year end top 50. Just kidding it went platinum so it sold pretty well it's just that i wasn't one of those 15,000 people who bought it.
Yep I agree all those songs should have charted also noting that Adam Lambert being the runner up on American Idol has done and achieved much more than the winner, Kris Allen you havent done SH*T.
Su'bo takes out number 1 again! in two years in a row! How the f**k is she doing that! The Gift went platinum here in its first week and so far has gone 4x Platinum! That is some serious crap right there! I Dreamed A Dream has also become one of the best selling albums of all time in New Zealand going 11x Platinum. May even take over Michael Jackson Thriller at 12x Platinum. If you think thats huge sales, Shania Twain (don't know who the f**k she is ) has apparantly had her album "Come on Over" go 21x Platinum! How could Gin selling anything Her voice is one of the most funniest things ive ever heard, she sounds just like an old lady. Wow Glee has made an impressive move over our album charts though it undersold in the singles category (their only charting hit "Don't Stop Believin" please correct me if im wrong, im not a big glee fan so i dont know as much as you may). The Naked and Famous just didnt make themselves as great as they seemed. Better luck next year...
So theres my opinion for. See Ya next year for the 2011 year end charts
I agree with your assessment of You Got Me! Congrats on it doing so well but I just don't see what's so fantastic about that song, but i do love Young Blood I don't know it just makes me feel happy and yeah Sun Goes Down is really popular just a real happy song and good at parties so I'm glad it did well but should have gone higher!
Yeah Glee are a big albums group but not so good on sales. It's sad, I'm sure they've come close many times but just not close enough. I remember when Come On Over was on the chart and it was like 100 weeks old and at number one! That album sold crazily. It's weird to go from an album like that to an album that's Platinum x4 and numbero ne!
Well thanks, I appreciate getting replys from people. It tells me people read what I did. Well I guess u kinda had to read as I only put down what I thought about what you said.
Can someone please tell me why Jason Derulo Ridin' Solo did not chart in our annual top 50 considering it spent 22 weeks on the charts. Also Static Revenger which spent 18 weeks so was hovering around the top 20 for ages.
Quite simple really, they didn't sell enough copies. NZ Year End charts are based on total units sold rather than weeks on the chart or position. It means that the #1s really were the biggest sellers of the year.
it's disappointing that - i love 'I Like That'! but generally it looks like songs that peaked quite low did not make the year end. In fact, it looks like every song there peaked in the top ten bar Just A Little Bit which peaked at #11
