I guess this is the new “rivalry” and Gaga has replaced Xtina as Brit’s main competition. It’s starting to become more newsworthy since the two have albums coming out this year.
Gaga has a single out in February, with an album release of Born This Way due in May. Britney’s single is out in January and has an album release in March (no official title). MTV News has compiled some opinions from music critics:
“I think the thing about Gaga is: Her persona is really experimental, but her music isn’t, and I think she’s gonna have to really come out with some different stuff to make it more interesting. I think her fanbase is so solid that she’ll be fine no matter what she does. [Britney]‘s got a blank slate right now,” she said. “People don’t know what to expect from her. I think the fact that maybe she’s being more experimental shows that she feels freer a little bit, and I think it’s going to show in the music. In the music sphere, I think that Britney’s gonna win, but Gaga’s so on top you can’t top her, even if you’re Britney.”
Julianne Escobedo-Shepherd
“I see Gaga changing every six months. I think she’s trying new ideas. Maybe they’re not all hits or they’re not all successful, but I think she’s trying new things, so if you look at how Gaga’s going to evolve, I don’t think we can say where Gaga’s gonna land, but I think we can say reliably it’s going to be really interesting.”
Jon Carmanica, New York Times
“The thing with Britney Spears that makes it work for her is that she’s been around for so long that people are invested in her narrative, and even when the records are so-so, they still have the desire to see her succeed as an individual. I don’t really know what to expect from Lady Gaga in 2011. I do know that she will definitely throw us a curveball and do something that is unexpected.”
Go Britney. She's the original princess of pop, but GaGa definately would've beat Britney to the throne. Take a look at britney's last few singles. The best charter peaked at #5 (Womanizer). Gaga has had two #1's and a further 5 top 4 singles. Britney will stirke with a track that will be catchy and awesome, and GaGa will swing with a unique sounding track which made her such a success. GaGa will definately be the #1 in Australia, Britney will probable reach the top 10, only reaching #1 if the track is a real corker. I'm still in love with Britney though.,
britneys single is sent to radio here in 2 days, we are the first in the world to recieve so YAY also, madonna is queen, michael is king, and britney is princess, these are things that do not change, lets see where gaga is in 8 years time before we start jumping to stuff like this.
gaga belongs in gaga thread, we dont need ANOTHER thread with gaga in it that doesnt belong.
Kylie isn't royalty in the pop world. She has limited success worldwide so she doesn't fit into a title. Britney is definately and will be for a while the Princess. GaGa the duchess?.
yes I could of written a paragraph on how excited I am, but heres all the info needed (I forgot the link to the proof of I I I wanna go being a sngle coz I have to leave soon, will be posted later if someone hasnt done it for me )
Britney Spears' new single will be at radio and digital radio in Australia early next week, according to a Sony Music representative. 'Hold It Against Me' is produced by Max Martin and Dr Luke and is the first to be lifted from a new album which is due in the next couple of months. Our contact tells us that despite claims by other sites, the single will not be launched via a Facebook 'unlocking' campaign due to the quick turnaround of the project. The singer tweeted the cover image (pictured) of the new single earlier today. More news as it comes to hand.
Yay. The quickly i can LEGALLY download this track the quicker it can reach #1. I think with all the buzz surrounding it, and if enough people buy it, it's a #1 for sure. GO BRITNEY
Britney Spears Set To Release New Single “Hold It Against Me” On Tuesday, January 11th
Song Will Debut Simultaneously At Radio And On The U.S. iTunes Store At Midnight (EST) On January 11th
New York, NY- Britney Spears’ new highly anticipated song “Hold It Against Me” will premiere simultaneously on radio stations and be available immediately in the U.S. exclusively on the iTunes store, Tuesday, January 11th at 12AM EST.
“Hold It Against Me” is produced by Britney’s long-time collaborators Max Martin and Dr. Luke and is the official lead single from her forthcoming album. The as-yet-untitled seventh studio album is slated for release in March, 2011 on Jive Records.
Fans will have the opportunity to purchase the song exclusively on the iTunes store until 1/18.
During her 12-year career, Britney has had five albums debut in the No. 1 position on Billboard ’s Top 200 Albums chart and she’s had 24 Top 40 hits on Billboard’s Mainstream Top 40 chart. Globally, Britney Spears is one of the top-selling artists of the past decade, dominating charts with her albums, selling an astonishing 67 million albums worldwide. Her previous albums include: …Baby One More Time (1999); Oops!… I Did It Again (2000); Britney (2001); In The Zone (2003); Blackout (2007); Circus (2008); and The Singles Collection (2009).
Billbeast, I think it means that for the first week it will only be able to be purchased from iTunes, but after that it will be available on all legal downloading sites.
I just listened to Hold It Against Me. Twice. It's pretty lame and definitely not worth all this hype. It may have success and even get to number one, but if it does, it'll only be because it's Britney.
Listen to the lyrics, especially the title line. It's a lame pick-up line, and an ancient one at that. At times her voice sounds really good, but there are moments when it's shocking (like on the word 'hazy' in the second verse). The song could have been better than it was, but instead, it's just average.
It's not the worst thing she's ever done, but it doesn't come close to her awesome best. 5/10.
I am just hating on Dr Luke and Max Martin. Yet again just taking perfectly good sounds and style and lightening them up for the mainstream.
That said, this is probably the most adventurous thing Britney has done since Toxic, and she has definitely jumped on the right bandwagon, much to my displeasure with this watered-down track :/
Is she? I just looked and Guy Sebastian was #1. And it's Wynter Gordon on iTunes. I'm confused. Unless you're just projecting your wishes onto the chart? Last edited:
Don't worry BZ, I've got the same results as you, unless they mean the Alternative iTunes chart, but Neon Trees are #1 there Spoiler alert, Wavves > The Prediction Song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnI7oLL32X0 > That
No I don't think it's number one there, for some reason The Prediction Song is at #1 there, but apparently that's a mistake they're trying to fix. Also Wavves have an excellent album track.
The song will be massive whether people like it or not. Is it Britney's best single? No. But it still shows the Britney is still a prominant figure in music
My mum hasn't said one thing about the new Britney single. And yet, she's raving about the Wavves track, like I am. "Baby Say Goodbye" is set to explode on iTunes within the next 24 hours.
But even if everyone was talking about Britney, which they're not, why would I be jealous? That makes no sense. Especially since I actually like her as an artist. She's much better than Rihanna, Katy Perry, and many others. There's simply no need to over-hype an average track. Her name will do enough of that.
I expect when it's released that it will shoot up the iTunes chart, possibly peaking at number one, and then do a steady drop. Kind of like the iTunes chart run for "Raise Your Glass" by Pink. Last edited:
Yes, my half-brother can't get enough of "Baby Say Goodbye", since he's only 1 year old and it's like an adorable little catchphrase between us
If anything, I'm jealous of Wavves, only two LP's and they've already achieved a 3.00+ reviewed album on RYM http://rateyourmusic.com/artist/wavves whereas another artist hasn't...
I think "Hold It Against Me" is pretty good, but it's nothing compared to all her amazing songs. It's catchy and I love the dance break, although the hook isn't that great. I think I expected better.
Sources reveal exclusively to PerezHilton.com that Britney Spears will be performing at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 13th.
Wow! Wow! Wow!
We're shocked! We didn't expect her to do much promo for this new album!
This will be Spears' first "live" TV performance in years!
Right now there are no plans for her to open the show but we're told that "she's been rehearsing for weeks and it's gonna be a truly great performance!"
We can't wait!!!!
Update: A rep for Britney Spears tells us, "We have not confirmed a performance at the Grammys at this time."
Mmmhhmmmm!
Our sources are very very good on this one!
********************************************** Britney Spears' Single Is Breaking Records
We had a feeling Britney Spears’s latest song would be a hit, but Hold it Against Me is already breaking records!
The song, which is currently #1 on iTunes, has set a new one-day precedent for the most number of spins (radio plays) on its first day.
Radio industry analyst, Kevin McCabe, reveals:
“Top 40 outlets across the country immediately put Hold It Against Me in rotation and received instant-reaction airplay at America's most-influential stations including Z100 and WXRK in New York and KIIS and KAMP in Los Angeles.”
In fact, Britney’s single had 595 plays according to findings by BDS and 619 spins according to Mediabase.
BritBrit is breaking records, ruling iTunes, and she’s also a current trending topic on Twitter at the moment.
So it begins. The end is near, The Apocolypse is here and Britney will be overhyped, overplayed, overated and overtalked about until many Threads will have some saying "OMG THIS WILL HIT #1", "BRITNEY IS AWSOME" and some other stuff. Then if/when she misses out on a #1 on ARIA and/or Itunes the fans will say "NOOOO THIS IS A TRAVESTY, A TRAVESTY I TELL YOU!".
Britney haters, this is not a time to panic, we can get through this, we survived The Blackout Era, The Circus Era and The Singles Collection Era. We can survive this too. We just have to stay strong, stay calm and eat healthy.
Can people stop talking in future tense or I WILL proceed to remind everyone of all the failed events that didn't happen despite the fact that they WERE going to
well lifter, maybe not this week or next, but im standing by my statement, I still think britney will get there, bruno took 10 weeks with just the way you are, so britney can take a FEW for this one
Haven't we had the discussion that Britney's weakness was sales? And that after a bullet in the first two weeks, she normally just dies off? And I think the chart runs of her previous singles is enough to tell me that she won't
Kanye west is the biggest douche on the planet. When things dont go they way he wanted he cracks the shit. Whats next, we find out his a paedo just like his BFF R Kelly.
"FEMME FATALE" a sexy name, inspired by the tv show La Femme Nikita???
Finally!
It has arrived!
Britney Spears took to Twitter this morning to not only reveal that her upcoming album will be called Femme Fatale, but also give a sneak peak of the cover art (above)!
She preceded the announcement by writing:
I've poured my heart and soul into this album over the last 2 years. I've put everything I have into it.
This album is for you, my fans, who have always supported me and have stuck by me every step of the way! I love you all!
Sexy and Strong.
Dangerous yet mysterious
Cool yet confident!
"FEMME FATALE"
March…..
All right, bb!
We'll be honest - we definitely think that the cover is a little too safe - and a lot too photoshopped!
Either way, we're still so psyched! Can't wait to hear this!
What do U think?? Do U like Brit Brit's album cover??
Britney Spears To Premiere 'Hold It Against Me' Video February 17 On MTV Femme Fatale clip will air just before 'Jersey Shore.'
Britney Spears announced on Tuesday (February 8) that she'll premiere her "Hold It Against Me" video on Thursday, February 17, on MTV. The much-anticipated clip, directed by Jonas Åkerlund, airs at 9:56 pm ET, right before a new episode of "Jersey Shore." The video will also premiere on MTV.com at the same time.
"Feb. 17th...9:56 PM...MTV....The WORLD PREMIERE of the Hold It Against Me video...directed by Jonas Akerlund," Spears tweeted, adding a link to a new preview of the clip.
The song is the first single from Brit's new album, Femme Fatale, whose release has just been pushed back from March 15 to March 29.
The singer began releasing previews of the video last Friday, sharing that she would debut previews every day until the video's premiere. As of press time, Spears had released five teasers, revealing various aspects of the futuristic video.
In teaser one, the director seems to be bringing Britney into a dark world. Dressed in a flowing white gown, she appears surrounded by TV screens as a light and camera are pointed at her face. She stands there, leaving fans to wonder what will happen next.
Teaser two shows the wreath of microphones fans caught of glimpse of a few weeks ago in a photo Britney tweeted. Instead of seductively gazing over her shoulder through the mics as she does in the pic, the pop diva looks straight ahead as a crew member slams a clapperboard in front of her face. The superstar stares directly into the camera as she sports a sparkly red top, a bling-laden choker and dark eyeliner with platinum-blond curls framing her face.
The third preview, which Spears released on Super Bowl Sunday, features TV monitors showing scenes from some of the singer's most iconic videos, including "Slave 4 U" and "... Baby One More Time," as well as various dance rehearsals. The song "Toxic" also plays before transitioning into "Hold It Against Me."
Monday evening's teaser gave fans a blink-and-you-might-miss-it look at Spears surrounded by six male dancers. She's dressed in black boots, a white bustier and white hot pants.
Spears' fifth teaser shows the singer standing in that same outfit, with the male dancers behind her. Lights fill the room where she is performing. The clip opens with a panned-out shot and then focuses on the singer. At the end, Britney coos, "All right."
More teasers will drop every day until the video's premiere next week

*********************************************
The Highlights:
WOW! never knew that she visits perezhilton.com
She confirms that she won't be attending the Grammy's and that she will be doing lots of promo for the album soon.
Britney Spears loves Lady Gaga, and thinks that she is a really interesting artist.
Little does she know that Lady Gaga thinks she is a "manufactured" pop artist. That is what is mentioned in a interview for the latest edition of Vogue magazine.
************************************************** This has created debate from Spears and Gaga fans.
Is it better to be an interesting or manufactured pop artist?
Britney Spears will release her brand new album 'Femme Fatale' in Australia on Friday March 25.
Sony Music officially confirmed the news in a press release sent out early this morning.
The album, the singer's seventh, is preceded by the top ten Aussie single 'Hold It Against Me' - the video for which is due to premiere on Friday February 18.
Hahaha. Lady GaGa calling Britney Spears manufactured. That's definitely a case of the pot calling the kettle black. At least Britney is aware that she is a manufactured pop star and doesn't live in a delusional world. Her fans know she is manufactured, unlike GaGa's fans who think their idol is totally original and not a result of mass marketing.
so we start with a meteor hitting the earth, and then britney in her strange studio world, where she starts singing, im not writing a review at all btw, we have a scene where shes in this MASSIVE (wedding?) dress, and shes floating up into the air, surrounding her are her biggest music videos shes done in the past, she has tubes in her hands, those are used a bit later on, theres a scene where shes in a red dress thing and shes singing to the hundreds of microphones around her, theres an AMAZING fight scene, and theres a scene where she shoots paint from her hands (thats the tubes) and makes her white dress covered in it
shes just tweeted: Hope you guys love it as much as I do. If you didn't I'll kung fu kick you like I did to that chick in the video.
LOL!
I would say its a pretty damn good video, I kinda wish the video had focussed on the apocolyptic part at the very start, and gone from there, but none the less - the video was AMAZING !
"Hold It Against Me" joins "F**kin' Perfect", and "S&M" in amazing videos aired in 2011, and I'm sure there are lots more to come!
for instance, lady gaga's "born this way" is coming out feb 25th or march 1st, apparently, but im not gonna say much about it - this is a britney thread.
It's not a stretch to call "Hold It Against Me" the most anticipated video of Britney Spears' 11-year career; after all, how many of her clips were preceded by a two-week teaser-thon that drove tens of millions of video streams and fans to the brink?
It's too soon to tell where the video will settle into Ms. Spears' pantheon of visually innovative music videos: pop-culture touchstone like " ... Baby One More Time" (the schoolgirl outfit) or "Oops! ... I Did It Again" (the red-leather catsuit), the darkly foreboding "Everytime" or über-sexy "I'm a Slave 4 U."
Either way, it manages to outgun all those clips — and pretty much everything Brit's done since her 2007 Blackout album — in terms of sheer spectacle, while, at the same time managing to display an amazing amount of restraint.
Because while it covers similar themes of many of her videos — the constant spotlight under which Brit lives her life (see "Piece of Me," "Circus," "Womanizer," etc.) "HIAM" feels less heavy-handed.
Sure, there are cameras, TV screens and microphones surrounding Spears at all times, but they're merely set pieces. We get the idea without having said idea shoved down our throats.
And much of the credit for that is due to director Jonas Åkerlund, who bathes Britney in a shimmering light, wraps her in a towering gown and eventually covers the entire set in DayGlo liquid spilling out of Spears' fingertips.
Sure, there are also plenty of dance moves and special effects, too, but because of Åkerlund's deft, downright organic touches, "HIAM" also feels oddly elemental.
The dress (from which she births her dancers), the fluid that flows from her fingertips, the softness of her hair and makeup — it all envelops the video's harsh, technological framework. There is a warmth to it, a heart that beats beneath the shiny veneer. And for a futuristic space-odyssey dance fantasy, that's saying something.
There are also the personal touches too: Check the monitors playing Britney's older clips, but most of them are doused in liquid and cast aside. And when coupled with perhaps the video's most organic moment — at clip's end, when Spears, covered in amniotic fluids, curls up in the fetal position — you get the feeling that "HIAM" also seems to contain messages of rebirth, re-emerging and beginning anew.
Yes, Britney also looks plenty hot, and the dance moves are sure to displace a hip or two, but at the end of the day, what puts "HIAM" on the pedestal of Spears' all-time best clips are the human touches.
It looks great and it's certainly the biggest-budget thing she's released in a long time, but it's also restrained and controlled — still under the spotlight, but reborn and ready for the fight.
There's genuine art to it, which makes it both beautiful to look at and powerful. She's not wearing a schoolgirl outfit or leaping out of airplanes, but she doesn't need to; not anymore. So while it's too early to know whether "HIAM" will be your Britney favorite just yet, give it a few years — you might be surprised by how well it sticks.

A incredible video!! the dance routine was amazing!! love the costume changes! and she looks really hot!
THE ABS ARE BACK! lovely flat stomach, she looks skinnier than in the "Womanizer" video.
The highlight of the video for me was the fight scene, when Britney faces her doppelganger. It's like she was beating her former self, love the energetic dancing throughout the video.
She puts a lot of effort into the choreography, which is flawless!! The video reminds me of the "Do Somethin" video, which was excellent!
I don't get it. They could have at least played with the bad pick up line scenario which the song gets its title from. Plus, I think she looked pretty ordinary. Flat stomach yes, but she's starting to develop some bingo wings, so shots with her arms up probably weren't the best decision. Ah well, I guess it's back to using my Sony product to explore Plenty O Fish and order some Britney Spears perfume and make up...
Oh, and for the record, I do like Britney, so this isn't a post from a Brit-hater. Also, I did enjoy the part with the paint, although it was pretty pointless. I think she did it better than Willow... Last edited:
While I admit the video has nothing really to do with the lyrics of the song. It actually helps improve the song as opposed to many other clips of the current era that decide to stop all over the song and kill it.
a britney fan I know thinks he has the video worked out, I thought this might be an interesting quick read
Start of her career - She hit the earth like a meteor Becoming a celebrity - She's all glammed up putting make-up and perfume Rising popularity - She's rising as her old music videos surround her She fell in love - The picture of the guy on the Sony touchscreen TV Personal struggle - She was fighting with herself Breakdown/Meltdown - She collapses and ruins her wedding dress and past work Comeback - She comes back harder than ever
Another highlight from the video is the background images in the tv screens, and when she wears the giant white wedding dress and same jewellery from her wedding back in 2004.
Thanks for that analysis bsb, it seems pretty spot on when you read it like that.
I have to admit that she doesn't really seem into the dancing and is just going through the motion cause it's a dance song and people areexpecting her to dance. And the editing tries to hide her lack of movement but in my opinion just highlights in more.
Hopefully with a filmclip the song can now just hang around a bit instead of droppping like a meteor.
Also as Gaga seems to be brought up here alot. Here is a link to a new poll from Billboard. This poll was redone after cry of fans cheating and so the new poll only allowed people to vote once. Britney beat Gaga at 68% of the votes. FAIRLY!
BRITNEY Spears may need to enlist more than just a high-kicking kung fu body double to help her fight her latest set of legal battles, FOXNews.com reported.
The pop princess may soon be served with a multimillion dollar lawsuit alleging that she and four credited songwriters ripped off country music duo the Bellamy Brothers' 1979 hit, If I Said You Had A Beautiul Body, Would You Hold It Against Me? with her latest song, Hold It Against Me.
"It becomes somewhat uncanny if you simply double the beat of the Bellamy Brothers' song and match it up with Britney's version," the Bellamy Brothers' attorney, Christopher E. Schmidt, said in a statement.
"Literally thousands of fans for both artists have also taken notice."
Schmidt noted it was not the first time Spears' co-producer on Hold It Against Me has been accused of plagiarism.
"Dr. Luke was sued in 2007 for copyright infringement along with Avril Lavigne and her record label for 'lifting' portions of Avril's hit song 'Girlfriend.' The suit subsequently settled in 2008," he said.
Meanwhile, David Bellamy told the UK's Daily Star: "Howard (Bellamy) and I have no personal beef with Britney. She's a talented gal. But professionally we feel completely ripped off. We will without doubt take the appropriate legal action if our attorneys agree we've been ripped off."
A representative for Spears declined to comment on the charges.
"If this is now a legal matter then I am afraid we would have nothing to say until our lawyers have been alerted."
Katy Perry Denies Feud With Britney Spears Singer calls the media 'filth' for implying she was attacking Spears for using product placement in her 'Hold It Against Me' video.
Source: mtv.com
Last week, when Katy Perry answered a question proposed by her California Dreams tourmate Marina and the Diamonds about product placement in music videos, she never expected to touch off a media firestorm. And she's plenty mad that she did.
It all started with Perry's reply to Marina's query — she asked her followers for "a consensus on product placement in videos" — in which she wrote, "Do it with style and grace ... Not so 'In [your] face like some. [You] have to get creative with it. Some artists don't care though, and you can tell."
Given that Perry's response occurred hours after the premiere of Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me" video (a version of which is loaded with promotional shots for products like Spears' own Radiance perfume, Make Up for Ever cosmetics and dating website PlentyofFish.com), most were quick to interpret it as a dig at Spears for selling out. And that made Perry very angry.
Early Wednesday morning (February 23), Perry took to Twitter once again to rip the tabloid media (or as she calls them, "filth") for their speculative and hurtful ways, claiming in a series of messages that they manipulated her words in an attempt to pit her against Spears, and, because of that, were basically responsible for the decline of civilization as we know it.
"Dear tabloid media a.k.a. FILTH: please note I expressed an overall feeling about product placement, [its] role in videos and the art of them being compliment[ary] or sticking out," Perry wrote. "Most, if not ALL, popsters welcome deals with products [to] offset costs of big-budget vids in these recessional music industry times. I'VE used them in MY vids before and am happy [to be] able [to] make a better vid because of [them].
"Once AGAIN, stop pitting artist against artist for [your] sensational satisfaction," she continued, "and stick to what [you're] best [at]: lying, gossiping, exaggerating and overall lending a hand [to] the deterioration of a generation."
"Once AGAIN, stop pitting artist against artist for [your] sensational satisfaction," she continued, "and stick to what [you're] best [at]: lying, gossiping, exaggerating and overall lending a hand [to] the deterioration of a generation."
the song was written by ke$ha! its her best song in my opinion, its a summer anthem, I think it will be a hit, also lately loads of snippets have been posted as well!
its being played on US radio stations all over the place now! will its first day playcount match up to hold it against me?
one of the rumours before it leaked was that its release would be march 4th - this deffinately fits in with that!
See the sunlight, we ain't stopping, keep on dancing till the world ends..
'Till The World Ends' is on US iTunes. I think it has quite a nice sound to it, a little better than 'Hold It Against Me.' Unless she finally takes to promotion though, I think the fizz has died down and it won't perform as well as 'Hold It Against Me' has. For the chart 392 loves, I'd go for a peak around #4-#5, as 'Hold It' could only make it to #3.
Very rarely does Britney do many interviews, she graces the cover of the latest edion of the American "Out" magazine.
Britney Spears graces the cover and pages of OUT magazine (USA). She shares a flip cover with Madonna. The comeback queen is featured in a black and white shoot, with a candid interview, conducted via email. The 'Hold It Against Me' singer talks about her latest album, Femme Fatale, Christina Aguilera, her kids and gay marriage.
They have been rivals since they said goodbye to their Mickey Mouse club friends. And for a change, Britney is shying away from late-nights and clubbing, while Christina Aguilera, has been in the headlines for all the wrong reason, areested for public intoxication. However, when asked about Aguilera, Britney replied "Truly talented."
And 'Born This Way' singer Lady Gaga is..."Unique."
ON GAY MARRIAGE
Britney - who has two children, Sean Preston, five, and Jayden James, four, with ex-husband Kevin Federline - has also been campaigning for gay rights, saying she feels same sex couples “should be treated equally."
She would also be fine if one of her sons was gay, saying: “I love my boys no matter what.”
ON PLASTIC SURGERY & LOSING WEIGHT
The ‘Hold It Against Me’ singer admitted she hates cutting back on calorie filled foods, and may eventually consider surgery to make her look better.
When asked about her idea of hell, Britney replied: “Being on a diet.”
Asked if she would consider surgery, she added: “When it’s time to pull and tuck, I’m sure I will consider it.”
The ‘Toxic’ star is currently sporting an incredible figure, but her love of sweet treats - such as croissants, cookies and candy - is said to have left her in tears during a break in her ‘Circus’ world tour in 2009, when she put on 14lbs in just one month.
A source said at the time: “She does not think about the calories in the food, just that she likes it. She loves greasy food and creamy sweets and hates fruit and vegetables.”
The 29-year-old singer subsequently put herself on a 1,600 calorie-a-day diet to lose weight.
There are few things our culture has come to relish more than fattening up a pop star on a greasy diet of hype and frenzied devotion, only to then turn around and eat her alive an album or two later.
It’s become a national pastime we practice in the less savory corners of the Internet or while unloading our Aquafresh and baked Cheetos onto the check-out line conveyor belt. Nobody knows this better than Britney Spears.
Ever since she snarled onto the scene in her Catholic school girl uniform in 1999, Spears has been the go-to girl whenever the world is looking for a punch line or a punching bag. At first it was "her music has no substance" or "she’s lip synching" and then there were the darker, more troubling episodes in her life to mine for material. But we have a confession to make: We love Britney.
We love her because she gives us the kind of pop music we demand for our workouts and woozy weekend nights, and because she has never tried to play the guitar or wandered off to make a country album. We love her because she’s a survivor, and for all of the shit that’s said about her, she still glides to the top of the charts whenever she releases an album. We love her because she has a "BS Alert" on her website to squash the almost daily rumors of new pregnancies, marriages, or demands to someday be cryogenically frozen. We love her because even the Super Bowl’s rabid, testosterone-drunk fans couldn’t keep her from being the top trending item on Twitter on the biggest sports Sunday of the year. We love her because she loves strawberry Frappuccinos and grits blanketed in Velveeta cheese. We love her because in 2010 she raked in more money than Lady Gaga even though her latest album, Circus, was already well over a year old. We love her because for all the pythons and pyrotechnics and red vinyl cat suits, she still feels like someone we could dish with about boys over a basket of bread sticks at the Olive Garden. We love her because she keeps us dancing, she keeps us guessing, and while the other famous former Mouseketeers have dried up, bombed out, or otherwise failed to keep our interest, Britney still has us coming back for more.
On the eve of the release of her seventh studio album, Femme Fatale, we fired Britney a slew of questions ranging from the candid to the ridiculous to find out a little bit more about the woman the world is mistakenly convinced it already has all figured out.
Where were you the first time you heard one of your songs on the radio? I was in New Orleans, and I was so excited. It’s such a cool feeling to hear your own song play on the radio. I still have the same kind of excitement when I hear any of my songs today.

When was the first time you saw a Britney Spears drag queen? In New Orleans singing "Slave 4 U." I almost died!

How is Femme Fatale different from your other albums? I think Femme Fatale is my most upbeat and mature album yet.
Who are some of the stand out collaborators on Femme Fatale? I collaborated with Will.I.Am. I am a huge fan of Black Eyed Peas, and I have always wanted to work with him. I also worked with a new up-and-coming artist from the L.A. area named Sabi. She raps on a song I love called "(Drop Dead) Beautiful."
Assuming reincarnation exists, in a previous life I think I was... Audrey Hepburn, because she was a trend setter.
Assuming reincarnation exists, in my next life I’d life to be... A bird, so I can fly.
My idea of hell is... Being on a diet.
My idea of heaven is... A trip with my kids.

What album do you consider life-changing? Natalie Imbruglia’s Left of the Middle.
Which Disney princess do you relate to most and why? It depends on the day.
What is the best advice you’ve gotten and who was it from? My mom said when you have a bad day, eat ice cream. That’s the best advice.
What is the worst advice a record executive ever told you? Someone once told me that the "…Baby One More Time" video should be me as a superhero fighting a giant robot monster.
What was the last nightmare you had? That someone was chasing me.
How would you feel if one of your sons turned out to be gay? I love my boys no matter what.
Do you listen to your contemporaries’ music? Yes. I love Gaga and Rihanna. Rihanna’s "S & M" is awesome.

What is your ideal way to spend a Sunday? Playing with my boys, getting some frozen yogurt, working out, and taking a nap.
What is the dumbest, most ridiculous rumor that has been printed about you? That I was an alien.
What is the rumor that hurt the most? That I had died in a car accident.
What women (living or dead) could make you think twice about your sexuality? I only have eyes for men.
Who is your favorite Golden Girl? Betty White, because she’s so sweet and innocent.
Do you have any phobias? Flying, because I’m not in control.
The best part of being famous is... Being able to reach people and hopefully make them happy.
The worst part of being famous is... Giving up your privacy.
How does the thought of turning 30 later this year make you feel? I’m excited to be out of my 20s.
How do you feel about plastic surgery? When it’s time to pull and tuck, I’m sure I will consider it.
I first learned about sex... When I was 12 years old. From my mom. I was confused and disgusted.
Kissing Madonna was... Cool.
You’ve been married twice -- once for only 55 hours. How do you feel about gay marriage? I think everyone should be treated equally.

I saw some footage from that Vegas show and it appears she's got her confidence back on the main stage and she killed the break down in Big Fat Bass and all of Till The World Ends..
Very pleased that she is doing several live performances!

Britney Spears' 10 Best Music Videos
"Till the World Ends" is Spears' second single off her seventh studio album, "Femme Fatale." The music video is set to premiere April 6, while the album is poised to debut at No. 1 on this week's Billboard 200 with a projected 280,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
OMG IT LOOKS AMAZING! and yes I do say that about every clip, and almost never take it back - I like music videos ok
this is exactly what I wanted hold it against me to be, its so cool that the video is apocolyptic themed; cant wait to see it in full! music videos now are so much better then they were even 3 years ago!
also her tour is apocolyptic themed too; it seems to be the whole theme of this era
Christina Aguilera recently wished Britney good luck on her new album Femme Fatale, but the once-teen rivals are playing nice these days.
Britney even responded to Xtina's kind words saying she can't wait to see her new show. Now Christina is continuing the positive press in a recent interview with OKmagazine.com. When asked about Brit's new CD, Christina said: quote:
“You know what I haven’t heard the whole thing in it’s entirety (Femme Fatale). I’ve been really hard at work on this show. I haven’t had quite the chance to go through the whole thing.
But I am a huge supporter of her in light of the fact that both of our careers started off together and are still going and going strong. I just think at this point in the game it’s extremely important to be supportive of fellow artists and especially females who get pitted against each other and torn apart. As an old friend of mine from the Mickey Mouse Club, I think it’s important at this stage in the game to show my support.”
Billboard Music Awards 2011 kicks off in Las Vegas
From: The Daily Telegraph May 23, 2011 10:33AM
BRITNEY IS BACK!! ON STAGE!
QUICK PECK!! with Rihanna, to thank her for helping her acheive a 5th Hot 100 #1 hit, becoming Britney's 2nd for this year.
BRITNEY Spears and Rihanna kicked off the Billboard Music Awards in Las Vegas with a racy live performance of their S&M remix - complete with pole dancing and a playful pillow fight.
Rihanna, whose S&M single shot up to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 after she teamed up with Spears for the remix, led the duet in an all-white, bondage-inspired outfit.
Spears' surprise collaboration with Rihanna was rumoured all weekend long, but it wasn't until the pop star appeared onstage wearing a black blindfold that it became official.
Immediately after their bows, The Hangover Part II star (and host for the night) Ken Jeong, took to the stage, "This time with my clothes on," he said.
One of his ensuing comedy sequences was followed by his movie co-stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis raving about their love of "urban music" – and introducing Keith Urban, who then performed.
The Billboard Awards had been a staple since 1989, but gave out what appeared to be its last award in 2006.
This year's Billboard Awards has been revived with a hefty dose of star power as both the red carpet - and the performers scheduled on the night - evince.
Taylor Swift was the first winner of the night at Sunday's 2011 Billboard Music Awards, where she was named 200 Album Artist of the Year over such weighty contenders as Justin Bieber, Susan Boyle, Eminem and Lady Antebellum, reports People.com.
Thanking her record label and her family – "for giving me the chance to make albums" – Swift, 21, also expressed kind words for the fans who bought and played her album, Speak Now. Clutching her trophy, she told them, "You've just given me another reason to be in love with you."
Justin Bieber was the next winner, as Digital Artist of the Year. Wearing a gold tuxedo jacket, the 17-year-old crooner also thanked his fans, as well as his mother and "my whole family, [talent manager] Scooter Braun, Usher – basically everyone who helped me get out of my hometown and live my dream."
Taio Cruz's Dynamite was named Top Hot 100 Song. Lady Antebellum took Country Song of the Year, for the heavily downloaded Need You Now.
The Billboard Music Awards are given out to music's most popular artists. The finalists and winners are determined by their rank on the Billboard charts and their "social and streaming activity."
Rihanna is the top finalist, competing in 18 categories. Among the awards she's up for include top artist, top female artist, and top radio songs artist.
Eminem's name appears in 16 categories, including top artist. He's also vying for top male artist as well as top social artist. Other nominees include Swift, Ke$ha, and Nicki Minaj.
Lady Gaga is in 12 categories, while Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber are in 11 categories.
Britney Spears Films ‘I Wanna Go’ Music Video: She Flashes A Cop, Makes Out With Fan & More!
Britney Spears is currently shooting her third single, “I Wanna Go,” in LA today and tomorrow — but HollywoodLife.com has all the details about her latest project! The video, directed by Chris Marrs Piliero, will feature hardly any choreography, “It’s very personality and action driven,” our source said. Rather than play up the sexuality of the song, the piece will showcase Britney’s sense of humor in a playful way. According to our source, “It’s not really indicative of the song at all.”
The video will open with a mock press conference, and the paparazzi will askBritney inappropriate questions. The singer curses them out and storms off, before later discovering that they’re all robots. “It seems like Britney is hung up on the press, which is ironic because for the most part they seem to be leaving her alone,” our source continued.
Britney will play out fantasies in her head, which include making out with a fan, flashing a cop, and getting frisky with a hot star! Although we’re not quite sure who her main man will be, our source tells us they’ve already reached out to Matthew McConaughey and Kellan Lutz.
The handsome actor will show up and save Britney from the paparazzi, before they hook up in the backseat of a car, where she discovers he’s a robot too!
The video ends back at the press conference, where you discover that Britney was just daydreaming. She then walks off with the actor, who turns around and smiles at the camera, his eyes glaring just like those of the robot paparazzi.
Britney is going to definitely look sexy, but in an edgy way — expect to see the star in combat boots, and a studded, punk-rock get-up at the press conference. “Diesel has signed on as a sponsor, and practically all the costs are being covered by sponsorships, priced around $300,000,” our source said. This isn’t surprising, especially since Britney’s previous video, “Hold It Against Me,” was full of product placement.
One thing’s for sure, it definitely sounds different from the work we’ve seen from the star in the past! Are you excited for her latest video?
I'd love to see Criminal released internationally. Nice to see the 2 album tracks I've charted of hers thus far (Inside Out & Criminal) are possibly becoming Aus/Internation singles.
Criminal would fail here and everywhere haha. I love the song but it's not what Radio would enjoy I don't think.. Inside Out would be a perfect choice!
Also, did anyone see the VMA commercial? This year at the VMAs they will be tributing Britney Spears (a performance tribute) and will be awarding her with a Lifetime Achievement Award (Video Vangaurd award).
This is the same award, MJ, Madonna & Janet Jackson received for their contributions to videos
Criminal i think will flop, although I'd wish it didn't. Inside Out isn't that good, but i agree radio would love it. I was actually expecting BIG FAT BASS to be a single by now.
Brit's Getting A Star Studded Tribute At The VMAs!
Britney may be young (she's 29), but she's still getting a special tribute and award at the VMAs this year!
Not only is she getting a tribute, but, a tons of stars are joining to put it on — Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Katy Perry, Demi Lovato, Nicki Minaj and Janet Jackson — including the Pop Princess herself (she'll perform bits of TWO of her hits)!!
But wait… she's also being honored by MADONNA??
Hold on, we're about to pass out from excitement!
Also getting the tribute treatment is Amy Winehouse, who will get a loving one from Tony Bennett:
Famed singer Tony Bennett is going to take the stage in memory of the late Amy Winehouse where he will introduce never-before-seen footage from their March recording session at London's legendary Abbey Road Studios.
Britney announced Criminal as the 4th single from FF. About time if you ask me; she hasn't released a ballad/mid tempo since Everytime and that was ages ago. The song is much more Euro-friendly than her last 3 singles and I can see it being a decent sized hit in Europe if she promotes. Fingers crossed
This ^ is the new version. It adds a few more beats in the background, and brings the vocals up more in the last chorus. It gives it a little kick to make it more radio friendly
Britney Spears and her real-life boyfriend go Bonnie and Clyde in video for new single 'Criminal': Watch here!
by Erin Strecker
Source: ew.com
It’s crime time for Britney, bitch.
In her new video for “Criminal,” her fourth single from Femme Fatale, Spears acts out a romantic heist/robbery/forbidden love with real-life love Jason Trawick– complete with multiple naked sex scenes.
The good stuff: Spears looks great — the weave is working for her and the video plotline has a fun story that isn’t just Britney slithering against a wall.
Although it is a Spears video — there’s still a little slithering. Check out the maybe NSFW video below:
I kind of really like it. Sure, she’s not dancing, but honestly, after seeing some of her recent attempts, I think it’s best her team decided to just forgo dancing altogether and give her something else to do: Sexytimes with her boyfriend!
The pair engage in steamy shower sex that puts Spears’ solo steam-room escapades from “Womanizier“ to shame. The woman who gave us Britney & Kevin: Chaotic certainly isn’t going to be concerned about boundaries. I’m not loving the abuse going on at the beginning of the vid, but it does give us the set up to allow Spears to be her sassy self: “So you’re not working the street corner tonight I see.” LOVE.
Other highlights: The explosive finish of Trawick and Spears making out in the middle of a shootout was pretty awesomely good-girl-gone-bad for Spears. And you’ve got to chuckle at the blatant Britney perfume product placement at :40. Spot any other Spears-endorsed products?
What do you think? Where do you think “Criminal” ranks among her other vids? Is it her best off Femme Fatale? (This writer says Yes!!!)
Interesting to note these facts I gathered from the release of Femme Fatale:
- The only Britney Spears album to debut at No.1 in Australia.
- Till The World Ends went 2x Platinum, which makes it the only Britney Spears single to achieve 2x Platinum certification in Australia. The only other single to beat it was "...Baby One More Time" with 3x Platinum in 1998, 13 years ago.
- Femme Fatale has spent the lowest amount of weeks of any Britney Spears albums charted in Australia in the top 50 with 9, compared to "...Baby One More Time" with 53.
- The first album since 2001 "Britney" to have all charted singles top 50 to earn certification. Last edited:
