This chart represents the combined charting positions of recording artists discovered by the plethora of TV shows out there determined to find the next big thing. Whether its Idol, Got Talent or X Factor, they all have one goal in common - to find someone who can line the purses of a record company with money. Please note when Eurovision comes around, the winning song will be eligible to enter only AFTER it wins. The artist will only be eligible for further entries if they meet the standard of being discovered through a reality show type of competition.
This chart compiles data from the following countries:
Australia New Zealand United Kingdom Scotland Wales Ireland United States of America Canada Sweden Netherlands Germany South Africa
Points are awarded on an inverse scale. eg If a song is sitting at #1 it gets 100 points, if it is sitting at #100 it gets 1 point.
This chart will be updated generally every Thursday evening.
Even though I don't think The Flood is anything special, I would like to see it hit #1 just so Cheryl can get the honour of finally hitting #1 on this chart as she has been a bridesmaid way to many times.
Run re-entered the German charts after some young girl performed it on Germany's Got Talent apparently. And has been hanging around ever since. I think though Run is somewhere in the Bottom part of the Top 200 Singles Chart in the UK
I imagine Nadine is thinking the same thing. I really don't know why they chose the mundane THe Flood as the follow up single. Maybe they were hoping to capitalize on Take That's success via confusion.
Alexis has positioned herself very well to claim the top spot next week. But it all depends on if she can maintain her renewed upwards momentum in the UK and Irish charts.
Just updated the chart, due to some missing information from South Africa now being included. Pretty much the major update is that Jason Castro drops out this week, resulting in most people moving up 1 spot from where they were previously.
I'm sure Cheryl is wondering where she has gone wrong with this album. I do think it's time for Girls Aloud to return, there style of pop is sadly missing from the UK charts. Maybe after Cheryl flops in the US she'll reform the group.
While he is #1 on this chart, he is currently sitting at #12 on my official personal chart. This is just a chart that documents the success of artists discovered on reality shows. A small spoiler for my new chart is that Matt does move into my Top 10.
The problem with The Flood is that compared to her other releases its not that good. I also think it was a bit silly releasing a song with the same name as Take That's single. Hopefully she'll release a better song off her album and it can return her to the top of this chart.
Posion is very hit and miss with me. Sometimes I enjoy, others times I turn it off.
Re: The Flood. I LOVE THE FLOOD!!! I really consider it better than some of her other singles, it would be my third favourite from her!!!
But it did really bad (as did Promise This despite the #1 peak, it was like #40 on the year end chart!). In general though, I'm pretty sure most of Girls Aloud's slow singles failed in comparison to the faster ones, except for I'll Stand By You.
Yeah Homesick got certified gold in new zealand too - just one minor minor minor correction so insignificant but it's 'the land of the long white cloud' heheh! i'm sure it's a mistype .... alexis may be at #1 for a little while, it should debut in nz the week after next
Ireland chose them last week for entry into Eurovision. They won the competition by a margin of 2 points. They had a 20% chance of getting through. The UK are sending Blue this year. Everything about the UK entry was done in house by BBC, the choosing of the group, the choosing of the song. Something that has never been done, the public has always had some input.
Yeah she is American. It is wierd she hasn't taken off, especially since 'apparently' she was a shock non winner of America's Got Talent. I guess her sound is too European for the US market. Eg she has no rapping and she doesn't sing about having sex in the club
i love heart on my sleeve! great track! if i had you had a great run! nice to see miranda lambert in there (i've never noticed her before!) i still reckon happiness will reign supreme for a little while longer - it's much better than good girl imo
She is representing Germany again at Eurovision and the previous week was the show where Germany decided which song she would sing for Eurovision. The winning song landed at #2 in Germany and is the highest placed song on this chart, all the others are the losing songs.
i'm expecting a big debut for 'don't hold your breath' (nicole scherzinger) this week, although i don't think the uk/ireland will give her enough steam to pass alexis jordan. nice to see mary byrne getting a single, love her voice so i will need to check it out!
I'm sure Matt will return when he gets around to releasing his debut album. Happiness still could reclaim the throne, it seems Nicole's song doesn't have the legs to stay around for long. Who knows maybe Alexis will get her 2nd #1 with Good Girl.
It is based upon the accumulation points awarded throughout it's chart run. Every week the #1 song on THIS chart gets 50 points, #2 gets 49 and so forth down. I've never had 51 songs on this chart but if that ever happened I would just make #1 get 51 points.
When a song gets 250 points it is accredited Gold and when it hits 500 it gets Platinum. 1000 points when it happens would merit Double Platinum.
My other charts are similar to this notion but have different numbers to be reached.
For all 3 charts, the points are reset at the start of the year.
Lambert's album is still selling in Australia. Glad you are enjoying the addition of the album chart. It was very quick to backdate the charts as well. The album chart contains a couple less national charts than the singles one. Missing is Germany and South Africa. Although I'm sure there is a German chart I can check every week, if I search hard enough.
I was surprised with how long Susan Boyle's The Gift lasted at #1, I thought it might have tumbled quickly in the new year but it didn't. You can thank New Zealand for Stan's Platinum status.
You know crazychris, I hadn't even noticed Alexis moving up on the chart. I rushed through my 2 charts today as they were so far behind schedule it wasn't funny, that I hadn't had a chance to really analyse wht was moving up and down.
Sleepwalker debut in New Zealand about a month back around the time of the Live DVD and then dropped out, but it is charting in the lower end of Germany's Top 100. My gut feeling is that it is some sort of promotional single for the Live DVD/CD set but not an official single.
Thank you dirk for providing the necessary information for the chart AND for next week chart. The website you gave me will prove very useful.
Pietro and Sarah were sitting at #9 and #10 for most of the week but then the UK charts came out and that knocked them out of contention. There is a possibility that Pietro will climb up on next week's chart. Need to track down the tweo versions of Call My Name for my collection.
Lena managed to chart in Ireland and The Netherlands after the conclusion of Eurovision, so that's how she managed to gain a new peak with Taken By A Stranger.
Like It Like That's peak may change as I re-do my reality charts and play catch up. I'm currently doing 2008, with plans to fill them all in from 2000 onwards. Obviously the main issue for Guy is that Like It Like That was only charting in Australia with NZ only just getting it now. But I do think that Like It Like That was on its way out of the Australian chart when I started doing this chart officially, which meant it peaked lower than it should have. Last edited:
I had to do a bit of guess work with the albums this week, but with the arrival of my Billboard magazine I've fixed up the data. Main change is Lauren Alaina dropping out and Carrie Underwood re-entering
Like It Like That was charting in NZ. I don't think it charted there when it was charting in Australia. I think it was re-released due to the success of Who's That Girl in NZ. Altiyan's album re-enters the NZ Chart - and don't ask me why cause I have no idea.
You might be getting a 'The Voice' onslaught this week, as several of the contestants have been doing well on iTunes in the US. Have you been watching by any chance BillyBrett? If you have, what is your opinion of the concept?
Nicole is rocking it and I hope to see the Carrie Underwood/Brad Paisley duet continue moving upward. Perhaps it could give the two of them unexpected success elsewhere (although it seems unlikely ... but you never know ...)
No I haven't seen any of The Voice. The only onslaught The Voice will have is the offfical single by the winner. I made a decision during the airing of The Netherlands season not to include the weekly performed tracks, so I have to stick to that arbitary ruling for the US season.
I too hope the Paisleywood duet keeps climbing up the chart, hopefully it can also crack the Canadian chart to help it climb higher.
