Chris Brown has two milestones this week. First, "Beautiful People" - my #1 of 2011 - has now charted for a full year in my top 100. Not only that, but his latest song "Turn Up The Music" rockets up from #37 last week to #1 this week - the third largest jump ever to the top spot on my chart.
Emeli Sande debuts just below him at #2 while Friendly Fires are desperately unlucky to only get the single week at #1. Some great music around at the moment...

I was shocked to hear of Whitney Houston's passing yesterday. Although her ill health and drug issues were common knowledge, it has always been difficult to fathom how a person with such a flawless voice who has inspired many people could be so troubled and, ultimately, meet such an early end.
About 3 months after I began my chart, Whitney's song "Step By Step" reached #1 on it and was without question the song that confirmed my interest in continuing to make a personal chart each week. Every time I think back to those early days of my interest in music in 1996-97 it is one of the first songs that comes to mind thanks to her incredible voice.
This week is my 811th chart and I am dedicating it to Whitney.

Fun. spends a fifth week at #1 with "Some Nights". Its rise to #1 on the ARIA chart this week makes it one of the very rare songs to be #1 on my chart and in Australia simultaneously.
Robyn becomes the third act in as many weeks to celebrate a full year in my chart, this time with her song "Call Your Girlfriend". I recently named it as one of my 50 favourite songs ever.... it truly is one of the best pop songs we're likely to hear this decade.

"1+1" by Beyonce and "Levels" by Avicii become the latest songs to have spent a full year in my chart, having debuted on 4 September 2011. Well deserved on both counts.

Fun. clings on for another week but it's likely their last at #1 with "Some Nights". I listened to "Anything Could Happen" a lot more than any other song in the past week but it was just pipped by Some Nights. It'll be a tight race again next week for the top spot with Muse unlucky to drop back, a new song at #6 and Ellie and Icona Pop nudging closer to the top.

Gotye's songs "I Feel Better" and "In Your Light" both become the latest ones to have spent a full year in my chart. Interestingly, he becomes just the third artist after Regurgitator and Yeasayer to have at least 3 songs that have achieved this feat.

Don't You Worry Child peaked in the top 5?! I am severely disappointed I missed that, but great to see Bruno debut, Delta as well and the Little Talks bullet is great.
"Carry On" rockets up to #1, becoming just the 9th song overall (and 3rd in 2012) to move from outside the top 20 straight up to #1. "Wonder" is hot on its tail at #2.
Of course, Carry On's feat is overshadowed this week by "I'm In Love" by Alex Gaudino/Maxine Ashley which is enjoying its 100th week in my chart, becoming just the fifth song to reach triple figures. This also means its two year anniversary is coming up in a month's time.
