It will be a weekly Top 25, and will mostly be songs that appear on the ARIA chart. Every now and again I will stumble across a song on Channel [V], or similar, that will make the chart. I will also include one song that I dislike, or as I call it: 'The song I don't understand why people are buying'.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Laurent Wery - Hey Hey Hey.
Great to see Christina remaining on top, and new peaks for Hot Chelle Rae, Guy Sebastian, Florence, Black Keys and Simple Plan. Don't mind I Love It, but I don't really like it either, Sia's other featuring credit songs are much better. Great to see Hey 3X still receiving an appropriate amount of hate.
The new entry doesn't really phase me, but I love the jumps for Lloyd. Clarko, Cher and Guy Sebastian. Love your top 3. Actually your whole top 5 is very good. Great chart D Man. Hopefully Christina Perri get's knocked off soon though.
Naww, shame to see Lana Del Rey down and the same for Rihanna, Ed and Pete Murray. I think your number one is decent too. Nice jumps for BLACK KEYS!!! and Florence.
Nice to see A Thousand Years holding it up, I like it about on par with Lloyd's song and wouldn't mind either at #1. Nice rises for Florence + The Black Keys and good debut for Hilltop Hoods. Hey Hey Hey keeps growing on me
Very nice #1 and good to see Kelly rise to #3. Ouch for Video games and One Direction though but the best rise this week goes to Shake It Out! Simple Plan, Lonely Boy and I Love It are great as well.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Rihanna - You Da One. Very, very poor follow up to WFL. It is a very boring and the one-one-one bit at the end is frustrating. I'm starting to wonder if Rihanna even listens to her tracks after they have been recorded...
So, out of nowhere Florence + The Machine bullet to the top. In the last week I have had 'Shake It Out' on repeat! Professor Green has Emeli to thank for such a high debut, as it is her part of the song that I like the most. Ed meets himself on the chart, while Flo and Lana also debut.
Yay great to see Shake It Out jump to #1 out of nowhere! Such a good track. Nice to see Kelly move up to #3 as well. Good rises for Don't Worry Be Happy and Levels.
Like all the debuts this week, but especially loving Lego House and Wild Ones.
Awesome debuts for Ed Sheeran, FloSia and Lana Del Rey. Loving all three of those at the moment. I'm yet to hear the other entry. Big surprise to see Florence race to the top, but it's good. Nice jumps also for Black Keys and Simple Plan. Oh, and You Da One is crap, but I rarely like Rihanna nowadays anyway.
Wow, what a jump to #1, but great to see Florence get it. Of course with a jump like that it forces most of the chart down, nonetheless good rises for Hilltop Hoods, The Black Keys & Avicii. Nice debuts for Ed Sheeran & Lana Del Rey too.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Rihanna - You Da One. Still boring and pointless.
The top of my chart stays very stable this week, but as far as stability goes, that's about it! Professor Green bullets into the top five, while Lloyd drops out of it. There's a lot of movement to the bottom of my chart. Last week it was Ed who met himself in the chart, and this week it is Avicii.
Great jumps for Cher, Guy and especially Flo Rida. Great debut for Turn Me On. But your number one is pretty bland! But your #2 and #3 are great! So hopefully one of them number one next week. Preferably Kelly. Nice chart though.
What a great top seven (not a fan of Hot Chelle Rae) but especially happy to see Shake It Out on top. Nice jump for Turn Me On, and I like Fade Into Darkness as well! Cool jump for Lego House too.
Awesome jump for Wild Ones. Great to see Lego House and Born To Die rising nicely too. I hope all three of those can get to the top ten soon. Good moves also for Summer Paradise, and Read All About It, which is growing on me a bit. You Da One seems to be getting worse.
Great to see Florence + The Machine holding up #1. Nice rises for Hilltop Hoods, Ed Sheeran & Lana Del Rey. Also cool to see Avicii debut next to Avicii, both are good songs. I continue to echo You Da One sentiment.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Qwote Ft Pitbull - Throw Your Hands Up. I thought that people had moved on and I was so happy. Then I see this in the iTunes top forty again and it makes me sad.
For the third week in a row, an artist meets themselves on my chart. This week it is Lana Del Rey. In other news, Flo holds the top spot with some strong jumps into the top five, including a Flo of another kind. A lot of movement this week, and there should be some more next week after the JJJ Hotest 100.
Nice to see Hilltop Hoods, Lana Del Rey & Avicii on the rise, and obviously great that Florence is still at the top. I ever so greatly echo the Qwote sentiment and am interested in the aforementioned H100 effect.
Great debut for Pitbull/Brezzy. Good jumps for Flo/Sia, Guetta/Minaj and Hilltop/Sia. Hopefully Flo can get to #1. Best song in the whole chart, Very good chart though.
Nice to see Florence on top and all, but I'm hoping for Wild Ones next week, great jump. Oddly, I find that I like all of the top three more than #4, yet based on the artists involved, normally Kelly would be my favourite pretty easily. Nice jumps for Simple Plan and Lana Del Rey and great entries for Train and James Morrison. The Qwote song is bad, but not that bad. The H100 effect could be fun.
Great to see Florence holding at the top, but I love the whole top four this week, especially Wild Ones getting a big jump. Nice to see Born To Die move up and I Won't Let You Go debut this week! But what is that at #25??? haha.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Qwote Ft Pitbull - Throw Your Hands Up. This reminds me that I'm glad that the Baha Men aren't around anymore.
Flo replaces Flo on top this week. Train and Avicii bullet into the top 10, plus there are some JJJ H100 debuts.
Not a fan of that top 2 but it's great to see Shake It Out manage #1 for a while. I like both of the debuts too as well. Yays continue for Train, Hilltop Hoods, Kelly, Christina perri, Ed Sheeran and the double Lana Del Rey. I've heard Fade Into Darkness is better than Levels. I guess I have to check it out.
Great to see Wild Ones take the top spot. I like all of the top three. Awesome jump for Train and nice tiny moves for Lana Del Rey. Liking the entries for 360 and Matt Corby. I am hating the Qwote song less and less.
Copy and paste Anton's opening sentence, a real shame that Florence fell off the top. Great to see Matt Corby and 360 enter, shame that Black Keys seem about to fall out. Nice to see Hilltops and both Lanas up.
I was kinda hoping Shake It Out could last a little longer, but oh well. Nice rises for Hilltop, Train, Avicii & Lana Del Rey. Solid debuts all around too.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Skrillex - Bangarang. It's just noise... I don't get it. Am I meant to get it? I am so confused.
Adam Lambert and One Direction score debuts in the top 20. Gabriella Cilmi and Damien Rice make their first appearances on my chart (sort of), along with one of my favourite lyrics (They say I'm up and coming like I'm f**king in an elevator) all in the same Ed Sheeran track. There is also a lot of movement (you all know how I like movement!) with Wild Ones being the only stable track.
Glad Flo Rida can hold off David Guetta. Shame to see Kelly tumble a bit but its made up by the appearance of One Direction debuting. Great tumble for Guy and a slight bump up by Matt is appreciated. Still struggling to get into Adam's newie.
And thank you for helping me understand a friend's status on Facebook - The elevator line - I had no idea what they were on about.
Nice to see Wild Ones still on top, I hope it can continue to hold off Turn Me On. Great to see jumps for Train, Simple Plan, Lana Del Rey, James Morrison, Matt Corby and 360. I like all three of the debuts, but especially Adam Lambert's. YNMIDNY is great, but I hope it doesn't overshadow Lego House for you. Meanwhile, I'm fine with Bangarang. Other Skrillex "songs" are horrible, but this one I weirdly kind of almost like.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Qwote Ft Pitbull - Throw Your Hands Up. Ok, that's enough. No really, enough.
Another turbulent week. Flo & Sia hold on in what turned out to be a very tight top 6. Adam Lambert and One Direction both improve on their debuts last week, and Guy Sebastian continues his quick depature from the chart.
Nice to see Flo and Sia remaining on top, hopefully they can hold off Avicii. Excellent jumps for Train, James Morrison and Adam Lambert though, I'd be happy for any of them to get to the top. Good jumps also for One Direction and Ed Sheeran.
Ooh good to see Fade Into Darkness move up to #2! Also great rise for I Won't Let You Go and One Thing (love that song), Take Care as well. Nice to see Madonna debut, but I still have to see where I go with that song, I'm sitting on the fence atm because it reminds me of Girlfriend by Avril Lavigne
Great to see Train, Florence, Simple Plan, Kelly, Lana Del Rey, Matt Corby, One Direction (excellent bullet), 360, Drake, Video Games, Hot Chelle Rae, Ed and Ed again.
Nice rises for Avicii, Train, James Morrison, Adam Lambert, Matt Corby, Drake, Ed Sheeran (So many solo males!). Would be happy for anything in the top 5 to move to #1 and it needs to be stated more and more and more that Throw Your Hands Up is a terrible song.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Usher - Climax. How so boringly disappointing.
Well, if you had've asked me on Monday who would be number one, I would have tipped Train. However, James Morrison benefited from some heavy ipod play this week. As a show, I can't stand Home & Away, but I am thankful for them playing IWLYG on their promos, because I may never have discovered it otherwise! One Direction continue to bullet up the chart, while Emeli Sande makes a second appearance.
Great to see I Won't Let You Go move up to #1! Great track! Also Drive By, actually the whole top five is really good. Great debut for Next To Me as well. Haven't heard Climax, but I saw it on iTunes this morning. I may need to check it out.
Great to see We Are Young, but I loathe Fight For You. That'd be close to my "why are people buying this" song of the week, just simply buying "Africa" is a much better choice. Anyway, great to see James make it to the top spot. I'm also thankful to H&A for IWLYG, I'd only listened to it once and dismissed it, forgetting that I usually need to allow his songs to grow on me over a few listens to love them. Liking the jumps for Train, One Direction and Matt Corby too, but it's a shame Lego House can't gain any traction.
Aww, I actually liked Climax when I heard it, though it's certainly not on my radar to buy any time soon
Nice jump for I Won't Let You Go to #1, but I'm hoping Train can topple it soon now. Nice rises for Matt Corby & Drake, and good to see Video Games holding on well to be the oldest song on the chart. I notice this has been for a while but I just noticed it now . Oh and great debuts for Emeli Sande & Fun.!

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Usher - Climax. I can understand trying something a bit different, but it is very meh.
Apologies for the late chart this week, but I had my engagement party yesterday, so was a bit tied up and couldn't post. Anyway, James holds on to the top spot in a very tight top ten. Fun and Emeli bullet into the top ten, but the biggest jump goes to Jason DeRulo. I know 'Fight For You' is hated on this site, but I am enjoying the reworking of 'Africra'. For the record though, the original is far superior as far as the songs go. Lana Del Rey's 'Video Games' hangs on for an eighteenth week, although chances are it will be knocked out next week.
Hmm, I'm pretty sure I liked your number one when I heard it a while back, but in any case it's certainly my favourite of the top five. Nice rises for Matt Corby and Fun. Also, Climax is very meh and I'm glad to finally find someone who agrees!
Excellent top four, very happy to see James still on top. Great jump for Fun into the top ten, and also a very nice entry for We The Kings. Glad to see Matt Corby rising too. I've heard Climax now, and while I found it underwhelming and dull, I think it has potential to grow on me slightly. There's much worse around at any rate. But it's still not good.
Oh, and congratulations on the engagement! Last edited:
Hard to know what could get #1 next. Next To Me is rising nicely so I'll support that. Also nice to see Matt Corby & Fun. also rising, and We The Kings debuting.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Taio Cruz - Troublemaker. Seriously, what the hell is this? I miss Break Your Heart and Dynamite.
A great chart with with a solid variety of songs. Although I shall have to pretend that Starships doesn't exist LOL.
I approve of 2/3 of your debuts but only cause I haven't heard the last one. Great leaps for Emili and fun. Awesome to see. I approve your your #1 as well. Shame he hasn't achieved greater success in Australia.
Awesome rise for Fun., hope it snatches #1 even though I prefer #1 over #2. Nice to see Matt Corby remain steady in a week where many of my favourites fall. My favourite entry is Call Me Maybe.
Great to see Carly Rae Jepsen debut. The Outasight song is weird for me, since it reminds me so much of Flo Rida, who I seem to be able to enjoy more than many others, yet those many others seem to dig this song while I don't much care for it. I haven't heard Hot Right Now, but nothing about the title/artist combo fills me with hope that it's anything I'll enjoy. Yay for pre-judging! Awesome to see James still on top and fantastic jumps for Fun and We The Kings. I also despise Troublemaker, it's sooooo bad. I miss Break Your Heart, but Dynamite can stay gone too.
Troublemaker bothers me more every time I hear it, there's something so not flattering about comparing a lady to a supermodel, then a coke bottle
Happy for James Morrison still at #1, but good jumps for Emeli Sande & Fun. so I hope one of them can get there. Good for We The Kings rising. Can't say much about the debuts, as I'm still getting used to them all.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Sean Paul - She Doesn't Mind. Well, this guy DOES mind. I do not understand his appeal. I will admit that I enjoyed Get Busy because it was a new sound to me, but now every song sounds the same. But, in true Sean Paul style, he will probably release a track that I like and I will have to eat my words, but for now, this is terrible.
For the third time in a row, the number one track has been knocked off after three weeks. This week James Morrison makes way for Emeli Sande, although Fun are very hot on her heels! Hated artists (on this site anyway) Nicki Minaj and Jason DeRulo score jumps into the top ten and five respectively. All of last week's debuts rise this week, with Carly Rae Jepsen leading the way!
It's a decent top two for me, but choose any pair from #2-#4 and they're even stronger. Nice jumps for Fun, We The Kings and Carly Rae. I've never loved Sean Paul, I despised Get Busy, but I have also managed to enjoy maybe two of his songs along the way. This new one is one of the ones I find least bad.
Not happy that Nicki has cracked the top 10, but that's only due to me struggling to accept that Starships is not a bizarre megamix of songs LOL. A decent #1. Awesome rise for Carly and nice debut for Katy.
Nice #1! Not a fan of the debuts but nice rises for Outasight, We The Kings, Call Me Maybe, Fun and Next To Me. I hope You Need Me, I Don't Need You can reach a higher peak. Have you heard Ed's newie Drunk yet?

The song I don't understand why people are buying : T Pain Ft Ne*Yo - Turn All The Lights On. The music is ok, but the whole autotune thing is getting boring. Really boring.
Fun hit the top spot, which I hope will disguise Jason DeRulo's move into the top three. I like the song, but I know it is hated on here. If it is any further consolation, this will be as high as it gets. Carly Rae jumps into the top five, while Ed Sheeran jumps back into the top 20, almost matching his original peak, but also knocking himself out in the process. Lana Del Rey does the same thing, with Blue Jeans pushing out Born To Die. Garbage make their debut to my chart, although if I was charting in 2001, Cherry Lips would have been a number one contender. Last edited:
Great to see We Are Young at #1, won't mention #3 (as per your commentary haha) and great rise for Call Me Maybe!!! Hope it can make #5.
Very surprised to see Hot Right Now moving up. It's addictive and I'm trying really hard not to like it haha. Nice to see Lego House re-enter and Blue Jeans debut.
Wow I didn't know Garbage had new stuff out? Will need to check it out! As for your assessment of Turn All The Lights On, I am in absolute agreement! But more tripe for T-Pain, I am utterly unsurprised.
Awesome to see Fun hit the top spot, I'm happier about that than I am angry about DeRulo if that helps? Plus, the promise that DeRulo ain't going any higher helped a lot there. Also a great jump for Carly Rae and a brilliant re-entry for Ed Sheeran. Nice to see Lana in, and I'm yet to hear Garbage. Also yet to hear T-Pain, but I'll probably struggle to understand that one too.
I'm obliged to notice Fight For You apparently (although I find IL more questionable, but that's just me ), but I'll also ignore it because yay Fun.! Unfortunately nearly everything else is down, but great to see Ed Sheeran re-enter, I've been getting into it more than ever so I hope it can surpass its old peak. Blue Jeans is great too and I am curious to hear new Garbage.

Fun hold on, but Carly Rae is eyeing off the top spot. All of last weeks entries move upwards, while Florence scores a second hit, and Taylor just scrapes in.
Really liking both of the debuts this week, but especially Taylor Swift. Nice to see Fun hold on to the top, but Carly would not be a bad replacement. Nice jumps for We The Kings, Lana Del Rey and Ed Sheeran.
Loving Fun. at #1!! Awesome to see Emeli Sande hit the top spot as well Great rises for Nicki, Lana, Ed Sheeran and the Taylor Swift debut !! Awesome to see you charting Katy Perry's new song too

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Knife Party - Internet Friends. Ok, it turns out that I have been very luck to have avoided listening to this for as long as I had. I don't know if it is meant to be a joke. Either way, it is terrible.
Carly Rae gets to the top, while it is a very Australian flavour to the debuts. Pete Murray joins Flo and James in letting things go, or not letting things go.... it is getting a bit too confusing.
Excellent top two, once more. Great jumps for Lana, Ed, Florence and Taylor, I'm especially glad to see Lego House doing well now. I like the debuts for The Temper Trap and Pete Murray, but not Ricki-Lee, that song came across as a very cheap Single Ladies wannabe when I heard it. I've only heard Internet Friends once, and I fully agree.
Once you've heard Internet Friends about 50 times it starts to fall into place But I completely don't understand why people are buying it since they released it for free
Nice rises for Lana Del Rey, Ed Sheeran, Florence + The Machine & Taylor Swift. Happy for The Temper Trap too!
Excellent top 3 and nice to see Carly hit #1, Nice rises also for Lana Del Rey, Ed Sheeran, Florence (I swear this has rose or debut on every chart i've commented on so far lol) & Taylor Swift, Good entry for The Temper Trap.
Great to see Call Me Maybe make it to #1! Great top three. Also nice rise for Lego House and Never Let Me Go. Great to see Do It Like That debut as well! I love it! Nice small rise for Eyes Open too!

Apologies for the slight delay, folks. The top 4 remain steady this week, but Lana Del Rey is on her way to break that up. The two debuts are both "The Voice" related. I'm curious to see if this show is worth watching.
Go Call Me Maybe! Another week at #1 woo! Great rises for Lego House and Never Let Me Go, and nice to see a big jump for Need Your Love! Boo Timomatic!
[01] [01] [06] [01] Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe [02] [02] [08] [01] Fun. feat. Upon seeing that it got back to the top 10 on iTunes tonight, I was thinking the exact same thing about Timomatic I also just a moment ago finally heard the Garbage song, but it didn't quite click with me yet. Good rises for Florence, Ed & The Temper Trap.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Reece Mastin - Shut Up & Kiss Me. This song is wrong on so many levels. It is quite disturbing for a 17 year old singing about turning off the light and making out on the floor. It is pretty obvious that that isn't what the original song probably intended... I can't wait for him to do a collaboration with Lee Harding.
Really good top 5 though, I hope either of the rising tracks can get there, but Lego House intrigues me the most due to its already lengthy run. Also happy to see Florence, The Temper Trap & Taylor Swift rising, and the debut for B.o.B

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Reece Mastin - Shut Up & Kiss Me. This hasn't gotten any better. Also, fake tattoos don't make you look tough. They make you look stupid.
I love this top four now! I really hope Never Let Me Go or Need Your Love have a shot at #1. Lego House has been on the chart for so long, I don't think it will have the power to make it to #1. Elsewhere, cool to see Delta up and now I like that B.o.B. song so good to see that in there too. Also woo Taylor Swift top twenty!
I HATE HATE HATE that Reece Mastin song. I hate the video, I hate the way the song sounds, I hate everything about it. Yuck Reece Mastin.
Excellent top 6! Although I must say, of that 6, CMM is my least favourite Still though, any of Carly, Florence, Temper Trap, Ed, Fun and LDR next week at #1 will do me fine. Unless Calvin can jump 23 spots, but that's not likely Shame to see Pete Murray close to falling out.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Tyga - Rack City. Is this guy for real? The fact that this is sitting at 93 on the iTunes chart is depressing. I hope it doesn't get any higher as it truly is terrible.
Great to see Never Let Me Go make #1! I love the whole top five, good stuff! Nice rise for Do It Like That and good to see More Than This and Never Close Your Eyes debut.
Boo Rack City is one of the worst things that have ever come out. Boo boo boo to that piece of junk.
I have a weird admiration for Rack City that I needn't try and rationalise. However on a positive light, it's excellent to see Florence + The Machine at #1, with The Temper Trap right behind!

I haven't commented for a long time, and I ahve to say that your standard of #1s this year have been excellent (bar one). Outasight and James Morrison would be my fav tracks in your chart at the moment, but great to see #1-#5, #7, #10, #13, #16, #19, #21-#24.

Awesome to see Florence still on top and Delta move up to #2. I still love this top five! Great rise for Do It Like That and nice to see Dance Again debut. All three debuts are songs that I don't mind so much. Cool to see One direction and Adam Lambert move up. Loving this chart bar #12

The song(s) I don't understand why people are buying : A lot of The Voice tracks. I understand the whole but the song get double votes thing, but some of the performances were dreadful (don't get me wrong, some were worthy enough). It would be more beneficial to buy the orginals to get some quality. I hope the next live show is an improvement.
GREAT to see Need Your Love up at #1! Awesome! Nice jump for Dance Again and awesome to see How We do (Party) debut. Sad to see Eyes Open on it's way out, but at least it managed to chart.
I'll say re: The Voice tracks. I mean I don't mind the Voice but people thought Glee was a blight with all it's charting tracks, how about The Voice infiltrating iTunes and being allowed to chart, pushing proper tracks down. 7 in the top 50 is a bit OTT
Ah, we can at least lay claim to having had a shared artist at #1 this year! But Need Your Love is good nonetheless. Favourite news is The Black Keys debuting but I might like Rescue Me if I ever hear it in full.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Knife Party - Internet Friends. It just won't go away. Where all of these second winds coming from?
Florence returns to number one this week, but Maroon 5 are hot on her heels. A lot of movement (both up and down) this week, plus debuts for Usher and Owl City.
Excellent jump for Florence on top, I do prefer it over Need Your Love despite the fact I do enjoy both. Please please please I hope it outlasts Payphone, but lulz for Pitbull jumping into the top five just like on ARIA Oh and nice rises elsewhere for Black Keys, Calvin and Kerrie Roberts. What a run for Lego House!

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Skrillex & Damian Marley - Make It Bun Dem. I take back what I said about Bangarang. This is worse. And it has a stupid title. Just not my cup of tea.
Not liking as much in your chart as I used to, but yay for Katy Perry debuting! Awesome to also see Owl City, Kerrie Roberts, Call Me Maybe, Lego House, More Than This, Let's Go, Delta and Temper Trap!
Great to see Florence holding on to the top spot and Rita Ora jumping up to #5! Woo! I like/don't mind the debuts this week, especially Brokenhearted and Wide Awake. Good stuff
Yes, don't like the Skrillex & Damian Marley track, but mainly because I don't like either of the artists involved.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Lil Jon Ft LMFAO - Drink. This. Is. Terrible. I do the find the video somewhat amusing though.
Great to see Florence + The Machine, Maroon 5, TTT, Calvin Harris, Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Delta doing well. Pitbull at #9 and #11 are two of his better tracks of late, but his presence in the charts is starting to hit saturation point. Time for him to mix it up and move on from the 'Mr. Worldwide' line which I am tiring of hearing. Karmin v. Rita Ora is an interesting battle to play out over the next few months. I prefer Brokenhearted as it has a catchier melody, but I just have to adjust to those rap-ish vocals. How We Do (Party) I am finding bland, for now anyway. Great run for Lego House.
Ooh wow very surprising #1! The track has yet to grow on me! Great rise for Brokenhearted (hopefully next #1) , Howe We Do, More Than this and Euphoria. Haven't quite made my mind up re: Don't Wake Me Up.
Lol a Lil Jon ft LMFAO song called 'Drink'. Why am I not surprised? I must check out how awful it is!!
Wow! I never expected you to be such a big Black Keys fan. I don't like Gold On The Ceiling much myself, but great to see it at the top. Also nice to see Kerrie Roberts, Owl City, Wide Awake, One Direction and Euphoria!
I have to chime in with everyone else and say that Gold On The Ceiling is a surprise at #1, although granted it did have the momentum on its side. Really good song though still. Karmin's big jump also sugests potential there. Good to see Kerrie Roberts, Loreen & One Direction on the rise too.

Woah! Karmin is #1 I think I preferred The Black Keys. So awesome to see Euphoria move up heaps, and Florence's longevity is excellent.
I hope One Direction can somewhat crack the top 5 soon, and same goes for Kerrie Roberts and Katy Perry for the top 10. Great debut for Guy Sebastian. Lego House for 25 weeks!
Yus for Karmin at #1. Love that song! Great rise for How We Do, Dance Again and Wide Awake. Nice to see Timebomb debut as well. Wow Lego House has been around for long. Good stuff!
I did prefer The Black Keys at #1 but Brokenhearted is still nice enough. Nice rises for Loreen & Ian Carey, and the debuts from Guy & Kylie which I weirdly enjoy.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Karise Eden - Hallelujah. I'm not a huge fan of her voice, and I don't think that she should have won, but despite this, the song on its own is so grating. A disappointing cover, especially in comparison to her winner's single which I quite enjoy.
Well, some members will be happy, and some might be a bit bummed, but The Black Keys are back on top in a very close week. Fun score a high debut, and Ed hangs on for what will probably be his last week.
Great to see Black keys at No.1. Happy to see Karmin, Usher, Calvin Harris, Guy Sebastian, Delta Goodrem and Ed Sheeran sorts of looks identical to my chart
Yay great to see The Black Keys hit #1 again, Great debut for fun. and good to see Usher, Ian Carey & Guy Sebastian move up, nice entry to for The Temper Trap.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Johnny Ruffo - On Top. I don't really have a problem with the generic-ness of it, because let's face it, it wasn't going to be anything different. I do, however, have some issues with the lyrics and the apparent lack of enthusiam. At least make it sound like you care.
Karmin are back on top, but their days may be numbered as Fun bullet into the top five. The Temper Trap meet themselves in the chart (the fourth act to do so this year).
Great to see Karmin back on top. Woo! Great to see Loreen hanging on for dear life in the Top 3. Woo again fro Florence. Great to see One Direction in your top ten still, although I find the song forgettable at best. Hopefully Kylie can still hang on for a bit longer. And I am ashamed to say I'm one of those who like Johnny's song even with that one dreadful lyric that makes me shudder.
Go Fun. for the next #1, Karmin is alright though but i preferred The Black Keys, Good to see Ian Carey & The Temper Trap move up and all your debuts are awesome
Proving to be a quite unpredictable race at the top, hoping Fun. can get there soon with their healthy jump. Otherwise, good jmps for Ian Carey & The Temper Trap (and I love that they have the same feat in both our charts this week!). I like Train & Rudimental's debuts, the other one is still growing on me.
Awww I would've preferred Black Keys at the top, but I'm starting to like Karmin too so it's okay. Nice debuts, all good but not huge favourites though.
If you took away The Fighter, Payphone, Don't Wake Me Up, Timebomb, How We Do and Amnesia, I could say I liked all the songs in your chart
So happy to see Karmin back on top! And awesome jump for Some Nights and Trembling Hands. I like the Train song and Rudimental as well but not really feeling Marina and the Diamonds =(. Haven't heard On Top as yet so can't comment, but I'll guess I'm not missing much =)

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Tyga - Rack City. Go away! I find it alarming that its rise on iTunes correlates with the timing of school holidays.
Thanks for the commenting love this week everyone! Last edited:
Yay go Fun. (we share the same #1 ), Great jumps for Train, The Temper Trap, Rudimental & Marina and the Diamonds (Would be nice to see all these make the top ten eventually), hell yes at Rack City, worst song of 2012, its just so shit. Last edited:
Wow for Some Nights making #1! Something that should have happened on the ARIA Singles Chart this week!!! Great rise! Also nice to see Wide Awake hit the top five, Train's huge jump and Trembling Hands still on the way up. Haven't heard Pink's track yet, but I'm bound to like it or have it grow on me so cool to see that take out the biggest debut. I fear that Good Time is goin to get old fast.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Justice Crew - Boom Boom. I'll blame school holidays, but I shouldn't have to find excuses for this drivel.
Yep, Justice Crew suck. But, Fun. do not suck and yessss for them at #1 Meanwhile, good to see The Temper Trap, Owl City & Carly, Rudimental and Train up. Coldplay is my favourite entry.
More yay for Fun., of course! Also great to see Train, Rudimental & The Temper Trap all jump into the top 10. A nice belated debut for Coldplay but no real objections with the debuts.
Excellent top 4! Great rises for Feel The Love, Owl City and the Temper Trap. Not the biggest fan of the debuts, but I hope Fun can stay at #1 for a few more weeks!

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Far East Movement - Turn Up The Love. It started so promising with the lovely lady singing, but then there is a crappy rap and annoying music.
And again they stay on top, awesome! I wouldn't mind Train to get there if Fun. were to fall, but besides that, a great top two! All three entries are good, especially Ed and Missy. Nice little rise for The Temper Trap as well. I still haven't heard FEM's newie thankfully
Ooh new Wynter Gordon - I must check it out! Excellent to see Missy Higgins debut, I really love that one. Also goo dto see Ed Sheeran debut. Great rise for Both Of Us, Pound The Alarm (WOW!) and Feel The Love. Still great top two! Lol FEM are the worst.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Justice Crew - Boom Boom. So, I orginally blamed the school holidays for its rise, but it hasn't gone away. Don't get me wrong, I like to support Aussie music, but this is so generic. I guess it could be worse... couldn't it?
Great to see Fun. still on top and Feel The Love rising, hope it's the next number one!!!! Nice rise for Blow Me, Drunk, Both Of Us and Everyone's Waiting, but I'm not too keen on the debuts One More Night gets on my nerves a little bit, but She's So Mean is alright.
Been a while since I last commented on your chart, but it's still a really good one. I like the rises for Owl City/Carly Rae Jepsen, P!nk, Nicki Minaj, Coldplay/Rihanna, Wynter and my favourite rise in B.O.B/Taylor Swift. I also like the appearance for Rita Ora.

Wow check Fun. out, they're having a decent run on top! Nice to see Drunk hit the top ten, Pound The Alarm inching its way up, Both Of Us scoring a big jump and all the debuts are great!! Love this chart, I only dislike two songs on the chart this week
The top 3 is still awesome, It's good to see Drunk, Both Of Us, Everyone's Waiting, This Is Love & She's So Mean move up and all 4 debuts are pretty good.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Far East Movement - Turn Up The Love. Now it is knocking on the door of the top ten. Gross.
Some Nights has now equalled Someone Like You's run on top. Can it hold on to the top spot next week to become the longest running number one ever on my chart (of only 18 months old lol)? Apart from the steady top three, (and 24) there are a lot of ups and downs this week and a bit of Aussie pride with Guy and Delta debuting in the top 20.
Both debuts are passable, but yes Turn Up The Love is bad. Great #1, in fact I can deal with the entire top 4. Ed Sheeran's rise is especially pleasing. Missy Higgins up is good too.
Arrgh I still like Some Nights but now I hope that it can fall off number one!! Keep it equal with Someone Like You! Hehe Great rise for Drunk, Blow Me (One Last Kiss), Pound The Alarm, Everyone's Waiting, Lolita, Call My Name and Spectrum. Cool to see Delta debut, I haven't heard Guy Sebastian's song yet but will need to check it out! Awesome stuff.
Boo Far East Movement, they truly are awful and I can't get past how bad that song is. Their clips are especially bad to watch because they look like they're trying so hard, but I'm sad that they're still sooo shit.
Great chart as usual and the top 5 is great this time! Go Drunk! I hope Matchbox Twenty can go up and it's great to see Fun getting huge success! Also nice t osee Katy Perry, Karmin, Missy, Wynter Gordon, Coldplay, Delta and Loreen.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Far East Movement - Turn Up The Love. Seriously, Australia. Enough.
Well, they did it. Fun now have the longest running number one on my chart, but not without a scare from Guy Sebastian! Havana Brown joins Guy, Delta, Veronicas, TTT & Missy Higgins in holding the Aussie flag high.
Thanks for the commenting love this week everyone. Last edited:
Awesome to see Fun still at #1! Great to see Guy up, but shame to see Rudimental down. Good debuts this week, and hope Drunk and We'll Be Coming Back rise soon.
Ahhhhh no!!!!!!!!! Oh well at least it's another good song as your longest running #1. A shame that Guy couldn't grab that extra one spot though! Nice rise for Lolita, Everyone's Waiting, Call My Name and Spectrum and I'm liking all the debuts this week
That whole top would be great but Chris Brown wrecks it, I especially love the top 4, Great to see Florence & M20 move up and Birdy, Calvin / Example debut.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Far East Movement - Turn Up The Love. Please don't make the top five...
Fun extend their time on top, but they had better watch out for Guy! Birdy meets herself on the chart (yet another artist to do it this year). Taylor and The Script/Will.iam scrape in with their debuts which should both rise next week.
Great top 9 especially good to see Ed, Cheryl & Florence on the rise and Havana kinda , good rises below the top ten for Calvin / Example, Birdy, Matchbox Twenty, Nice debut for Taylor Swift.
Birdy is certainly my favourite entry, but I think I prefer Hall of Fame over Taylor Swift at this point. Good to see Ed up, even if it means Train fall Owl City. A great number one of course, shame to see Missy out of the top 10 but at least Florence is in.

Yay for Battle Scars making #1! It's my favourite from him for a long time so good to see it experiencing success! Nice rise for Spectrum, You'll Be Mine, People Help The People, We'll Be Coming Back, and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together! Not a fan of either debut but that's because I got tired of the Rita Ora track so quick! Haven't heard the Cody Simpson one yet but I saw one of his songs on MTV Hits and I actually quite like it so I wouldn't be surprised if I eventually liked this oen as well! Haha agreed re: Gangnam Style, why anyone would buy the SONG is beyond me.
A really good, solid chart this week. My only issue is your #1 but that's only cause I find it rather forgettable but I'm obviously in a minority based upon its success on ARIA. Great to see Cody Simpson debut, the more I hear it on the radio the more I enjoy it.

I haven't heard any of your debuts, except for a snippet of the Guetta/Sia collaboration which wasn't specatcular but then I'm not a person who actually enjoyed Titanium. Great to see Cody crack the Top 20.
Awesome debut for Girl On Fire!!! Woo! Don't mind She Wolf either so good to see that on here. AWESOME rise for Taylor Swift and cool to see Battle Scars holding at #1. Also nice rise for We'll Be Coming Back.
Nice to see Guy still #1 and Fun. still holding strong post-#1. Good rises also for Calvin & Birdy. I haven't really been able to get into any of the new Green Day releases yet but that's probably my favourite of the 3 songs I've heard. She Wolf I also enjoy a bit.

Dammit, my preferred Birdy stalls! However it's nice to see Calvin, Maroon 5 & Guetta rise a little. Ne-Yo's song keeps growing on me and I haven't heard P!nk. I Cry's baffling instant success is baffling!
Great top 3! I don't mind which song is #1, and great to see P!nk debut too. So great to see Fun get some great longevity, while 13 weeks isn't much in my opinion (well when my chart was a top 25, 13 weeks nothing, but then SN is still charting), it's the oldest song in the chart! Good to see Calvin Harris going up too.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : The Janoskians - Set The World On Fire. The thing is, I don't hate the song, I just hate the fact a group of Jackass wannabes can be given a recording contract.
Ohhh this is getting interesting. I'm going to go for Taylor actually! Has she hit #1 on your chart before? I've never heard of that Cody Simpson song before, I think I want to avoid it as much as possible. The 360 debut is excellent though! Great rises for Try and Alicia Keys. I hope Calvample can beat it's peak, or go for 7 7 7 7 next week!
In a bizarre turn of events, I'm now rooting for P!nk, her best song in ages! R.I.P. keeps growing on me too. Nice for Psy, I love it but still can't take it seriously enough to chart it
Come on Tay Tay let's go!!!!! Great jump for Pink, nice to see We'll Be Coming Back holding up and GIrl On Fire moving up. I despise PSY since he is number one in NZ and (soon to be) Australia.

The fight for the top is on. Unless something amazing happens during the week, the number one track next week should be one of the top three this week. Some big names debut this week, with Robbie Williams scoring his first (solo) mark on the chart, while 1D and Ke$ha will be fighting it out to see whether Living or Dying Young makes the biggest iimpression. Thanks again for the comments

Pink scores her first chart topper since my chart started in 2011. Although, if I was to have a chart further back, I'm sure she would have had a few number ones in that time. A fairly static top 6 this week and rises for all of last week's entries make for a mixed up chart. Fun score their third consecutive top 20 song (and soon to be third consecutive top 10, but that's next week), while Adele is back and Mumford & Sons score a belated debut.
Ooh New Fun to check out, but awesome to see Mumford and Sons in! I still haven't heard Skyfall yet. Sad to see Run Alone falling, but your top 3 is awesome! Great rise for One Direction.
WOOHOOO for Try making #1! It's still growing on me, but it's definitely good (better than Skinny Love at least for me). Nice rise for Girl On Fire and Die Young, and cool to see Skyfall and I Will Wait debut, but what is this at #9

Thanks for all the comments everyone! Don't be hating on Psy, alley. He'll be gone as quickly as he came. Hopefully...
Nice to see Pink holding on to the top spot although I'm liking the rise for Fun. even more so hope that can get a stab at #1. I also love the rise for Ke$ha, this track is infectious. Nice to see Ride debut but not a fan of the other ones Also go Adele.

Ooh, no spoiler could've prepared me for that, what a jump for Fun.! Nice jumps for Rihanna & Adele, heck, even Ke$ha's song is becoming tolerable for me now. Nice debut for Lana too.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Pitbull Ft. TJR - Don't Stop The Party. Still terrible.
Great to see Robbie go Top 5. I find Pink's Try to have an interesting film clip but the song itself I cannot warm to. But it takes me a while to warm to Pink songs
Great to see Cody still top 10. And brilliant to see Delta debut,
Good to see Ke$ha really high up it's an amazing comeback song, I also like seeing Birdy, psy and Taylor Swift inside your top 10. Also good to see Ne-yo kicking ass
Anton just recommended the Andreas Moe song to me and it's nice, so I'm glad to see that enter, as well as Delta of course. I like Try and it's a decent #1, but I hope Carry On takes over next week, sooooo good. Nice jumps for Mumforeds, One Direction, Usher and Psy too. I'd never buy Pitbull either, so I'm with you on that.
Solid #1, even if I'd prefer Fun. on top. Nice entry for Andreas Moe. Yay that Mumfords are up even if they've had better. Pitbull's isn't that bad is it?
Collecting Sunlight! But great to see P!nk at #1 and I just heard Carry On for the first time today, which I really enjoyed. Nice to see Numb, One Direction, Ne-Yo and Mumford all on the way up! I hope Andreas can follow the same pattern. Also great seeing Delta by the way, and i hope you chart Ed's newie soon.
Great to see Carry On up so high but I hope it can scab #1. I do kinda like Try but I'm not liking it as much as her other ballads. Good to see Die Young in the top three, Diamonds in the top ten and Wish You Were Here managing to debut. Good stuff.
Ooh, go Fun. Also nice to see Rihanna jump into the top 10 and Mumford & Sons into the top 20. And ooh I believe anton lead me onto that song as well and it was reasonably enjoyable, something which Pitbull is not on this occasion

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Reece Mastin - Rock Star. Yeah, I don't believe it. There is something about his voice that is just so grating.
Fun. score their third chart topper from three entries! I can't say I ever expected this when We Are Young made it to number one earlier in the year, but here we are! Yet again, an artist meets themself on the chart - this time it is Calvin Harris. Delta scores the biggest rise this week, while most other rises this week are around two or three spots.
Awesome to see Carry On make the top and become the third chart topper for Fun. I'm in the same boat, when I charted We Are Young and it made the top, I never expected that they'd score two more number ones for me, but as you say, here we are. So good!
I also suddenly really got into Die Young this week, so I'm happy that's up there, but it shouldn't knock off Carry On. Great jumps for Usher, Delta and Mumfords, but I still haven't even listened to Ride, I really should.
Great to see Swedish House Mafia sneak in for the debut, that's an excellent track and should hopefully do well on your chart. I haven't really been able to get into Sweet Nothing yet, I don't mind it, but the title pretty much describes what I think of it.
And now for the most awkward and embarrassing moment, I think this is the first time I've actually bought the song you don't understand why people are buying, and I bought it in this week too. And I can't really explain it either. The song is catchy? That's about it. His voice is indeed grating, I think it's terrible. The lyrics of the song are so stupid. But for some reason, I can't help enjoying it. It hurts me, but I do.
Check Fun. out! Great track though. In fact it's a very excellent top three, all songs I like! Nice to see Diamonds continuing to move up and Wish You Were Here making a big leap. Woo for Sweet Nothing as well. Eurgh to Reece Mastin!
Up to #15! Wow! Didn't expect it move up THAT quickly Andreas Moe is very unlucky to be battling Swedish House Mafia for me, but then at the same time if I didn't get into Don't You Worry Child, I would never have discovered Andreas.
Great to see Fun at #1 though and great to see the longevity by Birdy and Pink. Also love the rises for Ne-Yo, Delta and Mumford. Hopefully DYWC and Andreas can sneak their way to the top 10.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : David Guetta Ft. Akon & Ne*Yo - Play Hard. I was never a fan of Better Off Alone, and this isn't an improvement.
Thanks for the comments again this week everyone. Just a heads up, my chart will be on holiday for a few weeks. I am getting married next weekend, and will be on my honeymoon for two weeks after that . I promise I will try and catch up with my commenting when I'm back!
Yes! 2 and 3 spots! Excellent to see my two favourites up but there's still lots more to say!
All 3 debuts are quite good! Little Talks is excellent and Wings and Anything Could Happen are quite likeable. Also awesome to see I Will Wait rise so much, as well as Numb and Delta.
Totally agree on your "I don't understand why people are buying." Better Off Alone is extremely overrated too.
Congratulations once again on your Marriage I hope you have an awesome honeymoon. Last edited:
Awesome to see Fun at number one yet again, the fourth common number one song we've had this year. I hope it's there for quite a long time yet. A very strong top three once more and nice rises for Usher, Mumfords and SHM, but especially Delta, I'm thrilled to see her in the top ten.
Wings and Anything Could Happen are both growing on me more and more, despite me not watching X Factor, so I'm kind of glad to see them in, but I'm very glad to see the lovely Little Talks in.
And I'm especially glad to see that perhaps you now understand why people are buying Rock Star, maybe my explanation helped. To be honest I kind of don't mind Play Hard either, but I won't be charting it!!
Congratulations on your upcoming marriage, I hope the day goes smoothly and you have a fantastic honeymoon. I'll miss your chart in the meantime, hopefully Carry On is still on top when you're back.
Great to see Rihanna hit the top four. I'm thinking from her slow rise that she's going to have trouble hitting the top spot but my fingers are crossed. Good to see Delta Goodrem and Mumford & Sons rise, and great to see Little Mix debut. Nice rise for SHM and Calvin/Florence too.

I will try and get to commenting on your charts, but I will make up for it when I'm back.
Oh, for those interested, "Finally Found" by Honeyz was the walking down the aisle song and "You + Me" by Lifehouse was our first dance. And then "Gangnam Style" came on and got everyone up, including my 90 year old grandmother!
Awesome to hear that the wedding went off well, hope you're enjoying the honeymoon trip. The Lifehouse song is excellent and a great choice for a first dance.
On the chart, you have an excellent top four, fantastic to see Fun still on top and the huge leap for Delta. We share positions for both those songs this week. Also pleased to see gains for SHM and Little Talks.
Congrats on your wedding D Man. They are nice songs for your wedding. My 2 y.o. niece also likes to dance to GS, so the audience is far and wide. On your chart, great to see Delta having a good climb, and good chart runs for Diamonds, Little Talks, Anything Could Happen and R.I.P. Hopefully Don't You Worry Child and Sweet Nothing have some more chart life left.
Congrats on your wedding D-Man. I liked your status update on Facebook but I guess making a comment here means a little bit more hope you're having fun in Singapore!!! Chartwise, awesome to see Fun. still at #1 and Delta scoring a big jump. Nice rise for I will Wait and it's really awesome to see I Knew You Were Trouble. debuting! May she rise in the future!! Love both of your wedding songs - lol funny thing about Gangnam Style I did the music for one of my friend's wedding's recently and everyone requested that song. I was adamant that I wouldn't play it until someone request a Mariah Carey song, so as a reward for choosing Mariah Carey, people got Gangnam Style. Crazy how much everyone loves it hehe!
Congrats on the wedding!!!!! Hope you're having fun
On the chart, great to see Fun. at #1 as well as the massive rise from Delta. Liking the rises from Ellie and Swedish too, but I really like the debuts! Last edited:

Fun hold on to top spot again, but the battle for number two is being fought between Delta and Kesha, with Delta taking it out... this week at least! Maroon 5 debut, as does Icona Pop, quite belatedly. I will be returning to normal chart action next week.
Great to see Fun. at #1 and good rises for Delta, Of Monsters And Men, Mumfords, Little Mix, Ellie Goulding & Swedish House Mafia, very happy to see Icona Pop & Maroon 5 debut.
Great chart once again! Nice to see Wings moving up and I Will Wait scoring a new peak as well. Nice rise for Don't You Worry Child and I Knew You Were Trouble. and AWESOME to see I Love It debut.
Awesome to see Fun remain on top and Delta moving into second, awesome top three. Nice gains for Of Monsters And Men, Mumfords, Little Mix, SHM, Olly Murs and Taylor Swift and I like the debuts for Icona Pop and Maroon 5 too.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Bombs Away - Party Bass. I'm going to put this down to schoolies on various illicit drugs as the reason for its popularity. I'm an old man now, so I'm waaayyy out of the demographic!
Well, I'm only a few days late, but the chart is back iin full swing. In a jump that shocked even me, Of Monsters And Men knock fun. off the top spot, and thus pushing the rest of the top five down a spot. Icona Pop and Olly Murs continue to rise, plus Samantha Jade, Tangerine Kitty and Mackelmore et al debut. Thanks for all of the unrequited comments Last edited:
Nice surprise to see Little Talks take the top spot, I do prefer Fun, but I'm quite digging OM&M too so I don't mind about them being knocked off. Good jumps also for Little Mix, Icona Pop, Olly Murs, Taylor Swift and Maroon 5. I like all of the debuts at least a little, but Thrifty is my favourite. It is semi-novelty as you say, but it's fun.
Awesome rise to #1 for Of Monsters And Men! Good to see Carry On had a good run on top. Good rises for Olly, Icona Pop, Maroon, Calvin Florence, and good debuts for Samanta Jade and Thrift Shop ( ). Hope Don't You Worry Child can rise further soon.
A lot of awesomeness here! Great rises for I Love It and I Knew You Were Trouble. Nice to see Samantha Jade move up as well and Macklemore almost top 20. Liking both debuts, but I like Give Me Love more so good to see that score the bigger debut of the two tracks.
That's a ridiculously great top five, I keep liking Little Talks more and more, and Carry On is obviously still awesome. Nice jumps for Icona Pop, Taylor Swift and SHM into the top ten, also a good jump for Maroon 5 and Thrifty. Awesome to see Ed Sheeran debut, but I find Guy's song dull. Party Bass is slightly less terrible than I originally thought, but still horrid. Scream & Shout to take over next week?

It makes me sad that I don't hate Scream & Shout, BZ, but you like Reece Mastin, so I'm happy to call it even haha. Thanks for the comments again everyone. Last edited:
Fantastic Top 2, great to see Delta still Top 2. Good to see Samantha still rising. Will have to listen to Bella, maybe she won't annoy me as much with a professional recording.
Nice to see Of Monsters & Men still leading out a pretty strong top 5. Good jumps for Ed Sheeran & Macklemore too. And oh, the dread of Justice Crew now being regular hitmakers
As much as I like Olly Murs, I just can't get into Troublemaker! It might be the Flo Rida thing or that it sounds like a Maroon 5 circa 2004 track but I just can't feel it! Elsewhere, though, AWESOME to see I Love It hit the top five and Taylor continuing her climb. Nice rise for Thrift Shop and Guy Sebastian too!
Go LT hold off Olly! , nice to see Icona Pop, Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5, Samantha Jade & Guy Sebastian move up, Very happy to see Labrinth / Emeli debut.
Firstly, I need to clear something up: I do not like Reece Mastin! I just happen to like a couple of his songs, however I think he has a terrible voice, is a total tryhard wanker, and is a fugly, ratlike troll. Anyway, at least you're not charting Scream & Shout, and hopefully never do. Best Night is super lame though.
Excellent top seven, and the Moe song wasn't bad either, I just don't remember it. But I'm very happy to see that Little Talks is still on top, since it seems unlikely to relinquish the place to Fun or Delta, I hope it stays there. Excellent jump for Ed Sheeran and nice gains for Taylor and Thrifty, as well as Icona Pop and Olly.

Great to see LT still #1 and Icona into the top 3, Taylor into the top 5, and good rises for Labrinth / Emeli, Ed Sheeran & Guy Sebastian, nice debut for The Script.
Justice Crew definitely suck, but more importantly, OM&M don't! Great to see it earning a strong run on top. Cool to see Ed advancing in the top 10 and nice to see Thrifty rise too.
Icona Pop are so nearly there! Go! Or Taylor, not fussed but one of them two!! Good rise for Thrift Shop and still managing to avoid Best Night so I guess I'm lucky there
Great to see Little Talks still on top, I'm enjoying all of the top nine at this point. Your chart keeps improving. And this week is definitely helped by the addition of The Script, hope it can rise well. Best Night is a snoozefest indeed.
Come on Troublemaker you can make it to No.1 but Little talks is still a great song. Good to see Icona Pop in your top 3 and I also like the rise for Taylor Swift and the debut for Ludacris

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Justice Crew - Best Night. And now it is being used on ads, and will probably feature heavily in the lead up to NYE. This upsets me.
Great jump for Labrinth, That would be a nice replacement for #1, cool rises aswell for Ed Sheeran, The Script & Guy Sebastian, Love the debuts for The Killers & Little Mix
Nice to see Beneath Your Beautiful move up, but it would have been awesome to see I Love It hit #1. Probably won't happen now ..... Great rise for Thrift Shop and cool to see Not Giving In debut!
Loving the run Little Talks is having on top; Beneath Your Beautiful is quickly growing on me but I still prefer LT, so I hope that hangs on. Nice jump for Labremeli though. Also great jumps for Ed Sheeran, Macklemore and The Script and absolutely fantastic to see The Killers debut! A very nice surprise.

The song I don't understand why people are buying : Basically any song of the first part of 2012 that should have been owned then that is making a resurgence up the chart. Ah, the joy of Christmas!
Well, here we are at the end of another year! Emeli scores her second chart topper with the help of Labrinth, while Icona Pop continue to edge closer! I have heard a few tracks over the past few days, so next week should begin with an "out with the old, in with the new" scenario, part of which began this week with Train & 1D. I don't include Ho Hey in that category as it can be (successfully) argued that it is an old song
Now that this chart has been posted, I will be able to finalise the EOY chart and post it either Tuesday or Wednesday. At this stage, all I can say is that it has been a fun. year Last edited:
I still prefer Little Talks, but Beneath Your Beautiful has grown on me very quickly so I am okay with that takeover. The top seven tracks are all very good, and I'm also pleased with Macklemore and Samantha Jade making the top ten. Nice to see The Killers up a place and the debuts for Train and One Direction, but especially Ho Hey.
I look forward to seeing your EOY chart, it has indeed been a fun. year, but who had more fun?
Ooh, shame about OM&M falling but Icona Pop at the top would be great. Nice entry for Lumineers and I think I like that Train one too. Good rises for Macklemore, Killers and Little Mix. Yep, Christmas
D Man's Top 25 of 2012 Well, it is that time of year once again. A reminder: I use the triangular system to calculate the points, and then the points are multiplied by the amount of weeks the song was in my chart. This way a song with longevity is rewarded in a similar way to a song that hits the top.
159 songs appeared on my chart this year, and here are the top 25...
[01] Fun. - Some Nights HP:01 WI:18 Pts:75510
Like "some" other track from last year, I don't think it is a surprise to anyone that this was my number one track of the year. From the moment I heard it, I fell in love, and while it didn't score the longest charting track of the year crown, it did overtake "Someone Like You" as the longest running song at number one, with eight weeks on top, as well as spending 14 weeks of its 18 week run within the top ten. It was the cherry on top for a ripper year for fun., with all three charting tracks hitting the top spot.
[02] Florence + The Machine - Never Let Me Go HP:01 WI:17 Pts:58548
My mid-year number one gets knocked off the perch, but holds strongly against an influx of strong second half tracks. I have always been captivated with Florence's beautiful voice, and this is no different. I love a song that builds and tells a story through peaks and troughs, both lyrically and musically.
[03] Flo Rida Ft. Sia - Wild Ones HP:01 WI:17 Pts:53822
Flo is followed by... Flo! As usual, Sia provides a killer hook, and I don't think I would have enjoyed this song so much without her. Flo Rida has been very hit or miss with me, with Whistle scoring a small run, while I Cry made the "song I don't understand why people are buying" list. As a very white guy, I do love trying to rap with Flo!
[04] Ed Sheeran - Lego House HP:02 WI:22 Pts:48796
It is quite amazing, really: my number four from 2011, "Rolling In The Deep", had a peak of number two, and benefited from a lengthy chart run. Here we are again! Ed scores the longest charting track of the year. After debuting at number 20 in January and spending eight weeks in the bottom half of the chart, the song was overshadowed at the time by "You Need Me..." before re-entering late March for its real run! A beautiful ballad that has become my favourite release from him, although they are all good!
[05] James Morrison - I Won't Let Go HP:01 WI:18 Pts:45360
I was so pleased when this song caught traction on the ARIA chart, providing one of the most ridiculous runs of recent times through its various uses. As James isn't a huge star here, many of his songs go unheard of, but I have been a fan over the years, with undiscovered being my favourite from him, until this track. It is a beautiful love song that reminds me of a certain time and place, and for me, those songs always seem to be rated highly.
[06] Fun. - Carry On HP:01 WI:13 Pts:43524
I eluded last week that this year had been a "fun." one, and this is part of the reason why. When "We Are Young" hit the top spot, little did I know they would score the number one song of the year with "Some Nights" and another number one with this track. A 100% strike rate! This is an uplifting track that reminds the listener that during a bad time, lift your head up and keep going! It is also one of those songs that starts of slow and builds up.
[07] Birdy - Skinny Love HP:01 WI:14 Pts:42140
First things first - I know this is a 2011 song. Secondly, I think this is better than Bon Iver's, but to be fair, I heard this first and then Bon Iver's, so my judgement was probably clouded. This is probably the best thing X Factor gave to me. Following Bella's audition of this song, I fell in love with it. He voice is stunning, and there is such beauty in simplicity. Not over produced, not over sung, just perfect.
[08] Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe HP:01 WI:14 Pts:42098
Ah, Carly Rae. This was a breath of fresh air following the influx of clubby, party-rocking tracks from last year. A playful tune with a catchy chorus, plus the addition of a light-hearted film clip made for a very convincing debut. Lucky for her collaboration with Owl City, otherwise she would be ending the year as a one hit wonder. I hope she can release something good in 2013, or it may be the last we have seen from her!
[09] Pink - Try HP:01 WI:14 Pts:41174
I am sucker for a ballad, and Pink provides some of the best (Who Knew is one of my favourite songs of the last decade). This was no exception. Following the enjoyable, but slightly disappointing Blow Me, this song was just what she needed to release. In a similar vein to "Carry On" this song provided an uplifting message. Unfortunately, it was played to death on radio and has become a little annoying, but I hope that when I stumble across it next year some time, I will enjoy it again.
[10] Fun. Ft. Janelle Monae - We Are Young HP:01 WI:14 Pts:40726
And with this, Fun. score three of my top ten tracks of 2012. As mentioned earlier, I don't think I could have ever foreseen this when it hit the top. I don't know what it is that makes Fun. so appealing - perhaps it's the fact that it is something a little different to the norm. Another song that benefited from a cool film clip, I am pleased that this track may have introduced more people to voice that is Janelle Monae. It is fair to say that 2012 was the year for fun - in all senses of the word.
[11] Karmin - Brokenhearted HP:01 WI:14 Pts:40166
Another act that is sitting on one hit wonder status, and that's being quite generous with the word "hit". A catchy track that I would often find myself humming too and singing in my head. My grandmother says cheerio all the time, and I love that it was used in this track.
[12] The Temper Trap - Need Your Love HP:01 WI:16 Pts:39136
I first heard this track and thought it was ok, but didn't really think too much of it. But then I continued to hear it and it grew on me, eventually hitting the top for a single week, and scoring the biggest hit for an Australian band.
[13] Ke$ha - Die Young HP:02 WI:16 Pts:38780
If it wasn't for Fun, this would have been Ke$ha's second chart topper on my chart, but it wasn't to be. I later found out that this song was co-written by the lead singer of Fun, which is certainly a plus for Ke$ha! I love the music and the playful lyrics that help to create a more mature, less slutty track.
[14] Guy Sebastian & Lupe Fiasco - Battle Scars HP:01 WI:13 Pts:33007
I will admit that I admire what Guy Sebastian has been able to do since winning Idol way back when. I would agree that it is probably easier when you are the first of anything, although he has been able to tweak his sound slightly to fit in with what is popular at the time, and this is no exception. Probably the coolest track he has released, it is far more international sounding than anything else (Who's That Girl a possible exception). I feel that his voice compliments the Lupe rap quite well.
[15] Emeli Sande - Next To Me HP:01 WI:13 Pts:32994
I love a song with a foot stomping beat, whether it be through a drum or piano, and this song has it. I fell in love with her voice on "Read All About It" and it didn't take long for her solo work to eclipse that song. The similarities to "Rolling In The Deep" are evident, but that probably plays to its strengths. I just find the chorus so damn catchy! Wooo-hooo!
[16] Psy - Gangnam Style HP:04 WI:15 Pts:32520
There really isn't much I can say about Psy that hasn't been said already, but for a track that almost made the "song I don't understand why people are buying" list, he has done very well. It is fun, it has a stupid dance and it will be forgotten soon enough. A highlight of my year was my 90 year old grandmother doing the dance to this at my wedding. Say what you want, but for that reason alone, Psy has earned his spot on my chart!
[17] Train - 50 Ways To Say Goodbye HP:02 WI:13 Pts:32474
The radio station that is played at work is one of those 80s, 90s and today stations that latch on to half a dozen new tracks and play them to death. This is one of them. With that being said, I didn't get sick of this as I did "Try" and others. The ludicrous-ness of some the ways of dying would make me smile, as did the wild west inspired music.
[18] Train - Drive By HP:02 WI:14 Pts:30926
I actually thought this would rank higher than "50 Ways...", but here we are. I enjoy the thigh-slapping nature of the music along with Train's trademark lyrics. Also, in a year where there were a number of weeks that had artists beside themselves on the chart (Ed Sheeran, Little Mix, Avicii, The Temper Trap, Calvin Harris, Birdy all did it), it is not surprising that the same thing happens in the EOY chart.
[19] Florence + The Machine - Shake It Out HP:01 WI:13 Pts:30875
Florence's first number one hit on my chart, and she did it in style too, jumping from thirteen to number one. It is typical of what I have come to know and love of Florence - flawless vocals that compliments the music to create a stellar track.
[20] Ed Sheeran - Drunk HP:02 WI:14 Pts:30492
Now this track was accompanied with one of the funniest film clips of the year. I'm not a cat fan, but it was talking to him, so... Anyway, the song is a bit confusing in that its music doesn't quite fit to the lyrics, but it does fit the vocals. Confusing, I know, but I think that is part of Ed's appeal.
[21] The Black Keys - Gold On The Ceiling HP:01 WI:12 Pts:28488
A song that was certainly a surprising visitor to the top spot on the chart, and it ended up enjoying two non-consecutive weeks there. I enjoy the riff of the song, as well as the fact that it isn't a song about a club!
[22] Cody Simpson Ft Becky G - Wish U Were Here HP:03 WI:14 Pts:28462
I can honestly say that I never in a million years thought that I would like a Cody Simpson song, let alone charting one long enough to make the top 25 of the year! I like to pretend the Becky G rap doesn't exist, because it is terrible, but the rest of the track is fun and age appropriate for him and his audience. He also has Jay Jays to thank for bringing the song to my attention!
[23] Jason Derulo - Fight For You HP:03 WI:14 Pts:27552
Most members on this site dislike this song, and I know it will be the "I like the songs on your list except 23" song, but I still like it. I don't know if it is the sample that makes the song and the fact that I already knew the words. Two guilty pleasure songs in a row!
[24] Taylor Swift - We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together HP:02 WI:13 Pts:26793
The first time I heard this, I found it very annoying, but it certainly was a grower. Quite a change of pace for Swifty, and it was good to see her lightening up a little. Although, I find it odd that while Miley Cyrus tries to sound mature like early Taylor and flops, Taylor releases a song that is somewhat childish like early Miley and scores a hit. Still, I liked it.
[25] Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen - Good Time HP:04 WI:13 Pts:26260
I was glad to be able to chart Owl City twice this year, especially considering that I thought he may have been locked in for one hit wonder status! Some could argue that he piggy backed Carly Rae's then current success, but you can't blame him really! It is a pretty cruisy song and has a summer vibe to it.
So that's it, the top 25 of the year. For those interested in the top 100, check out the Best of 2012 thread: http://www.australian-charts.com/forum.asp?todo=viewthread&id=40254 If you are interested in any positions of your fav tracks that missed the cut, I am happy to answer any questions.
Yay for Labrinth taking #1 on your chart, Great to see Icona Pop, Taylor Swift, The Script, Samantha Jade, Swedish House Mafia, The Killers & Little Mix, Good debuts for Train & The Lumineers.
Great top 6 in your EOY, Nice to see Try, We Are Young, Need Your Love, Battle Scars, Next To Me, 50 Ways To Say Goodbye, Drive By, Shake It Out, Drunk & Gold On The Ceiling.
Excellent! I fully expected it and indeed we share Some Nights as our EOY #1. Seems like you had a slightly more fun year than me, with all three of their songs in the top ten which is fantastic!
It's an awesome top ten, except for #7. That's totally my song to pick out as the worst, not DeRulo. Birdy trashes one of my absolute favourites; yeah I was never gonna like it no matter how good it was.
I'm also not overly fond or Broken Hearted, it's generally good, but sadly the 'cheerio' drives me right up the wall! I'm also quite sick of Gangnam Style, Good Time and WANEGBT but I did chart them all. In fact, the only ones I didn't chart are Fight For You and Skinny Love because both ruin far superior songs. And the Cody Simpson song because I don't know if I ever even heard it!
Aside from Fun, my faves are The Temper Trap, Ed Sheeran and James Morrison. And looking through your top 100, it's a great list, as I knew it would be!
On the proper chart, cool #1, but I still hope I Love It can manage at least a week at the top. Nice rise for Taylor, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis and Rudimental. On the EOY... AWESOME LIST!! Great to see Some Nights score #1 (although that was expected). I love all but four of your top 25 (the ones excluded are Fight For You, Wish U Were Here, Gold On The Ceiling and Gangnam Style) but still a great list. Particularly loving how far up Try, We Are Young, Brokenhearted and Die Young are.
Well I'll start with the chart, no surprise to see Labrinth snatch #1 but OM&M had a great run! Good on The Script & Samantha making the top 10, and Rudimental & The Killers creeping up too.
And for the EOY: What a top choice for #1! Easily the best ARIA #1 of last year (although Fun. do provide some competition with themselves ). And then Never Let Me Go didn't make #1 but was probably the coolest surprise smash of the year. Wild Ones has for some reason grown on me, if it re-enters ARIA it might make a new peak on my other chart Shame Lego House is the only song in the top 10 not to make #1, but it's a very nice track too. I actually really didn't like I Won't Let You Go when it was charting over in the UK but once it finally made it here it really grew on me, nice placement! I'll pick Good Time out as an enemy instead of Fight For You, at least that had the grace to make a timely exit
Heaps more to mention I guess, good for Karmin, The Temper Trap, Psy, Train, Avicii, Rudimental, Of Monsters and Men, Rihanna, Lana Del Rey, Calvin Harris, Matt Corby, Mumford & Sons, Swedish House Mafia, Birdy and plenty more that I won't list at risk of dragging this out. Very good list!
