Before I start, I'd like to mention a few minor rule changes with the new game:
-For alphabetising purposes, I'm ignoring 'The', and songs by the same artist are listed alphabetically as well. I meant to do this last time but forgot to -While the voting benchmarks will remain the same, the qualifying benchmarks have been changed to fit with the different state of debut counts for 2010. Any week with >10 debuts has two qualifiers, but for weeks with 10 debuts, the song with the most votes automatically advances and the song(s) with the 2nd most will be ranked on the number of votes received, with the top 4 advancing. If a tie occurs in either stage, a tiebreaker will be forced later. I'll explain this better when it arises. -If desired, you may memo your votes -Voting in initial heats will follow the Monday/Wednesday/Friday schedule of the previous tournament

It's a real mixed bag of qualifiers this time. Shockingly, Jay Sean manages to qualify, but does not do so with the style and grace that Mumford & Sons seem to have which sees them perform slightly better than him. Richard Vission & Static Revenger win over relative chart failures, whereas Justin Bieber fails to do the same, and loses out to fellow Canadian (fact!) K-Os with that song that samples that song that was the theme to that show. John Mayer & Florence + The Machine also advance with their opposing anthems to romanticism of which only one actually wrote.

Last time we were completely void of flops, this time we've got at least one in each group! 2010's mixed and weak start shows with votes being distributed all over the place. This results in Kisschasy, Timbaland, Adam Lambert & The Temper Trap advancing with varying levels of difficulty. But it's not all easy streets. With Evermore & Jay-Z (future collab? ) we have our 1st tie which will be resolved as a tiebreaker as usual. Where it gets interesting is that The Midnight Beast and Jason Derulo may have qualified, but may have not. It all depends on how their voting scores hold up against the other 5 songs to come in the same situation.

Who else loves old songs? Some people appear to, as Powderfinger's '2010' 'classic' edges the competition. The biggest round to date results in a mass of voting all over, but it's Amy Meredith & Sia's relatively newer songs that get the upper hand. Lady Antebellum & B.o.B have nothing to do with Cut Copy or Local Natives, but their songs that share names with other songs would likely garner more votes, and indeed, they do enough to surpass their competition. Sadly I don't know any other songs by the names that Ou Est Le Swimming Pool & 3OH!3 have given their songs, but nonetheless, they're also in.

Week 27 is easy. Pyramid is the best song of 2010 so hopefully it gets through. Week 32 is also very good. With Teenage Dream, Choose You and Rockstar 101 all reached top 5 on my personal. If 2010 has provided something that 2011 didn't, it's mixed weeks. Otherwise strong songs losing out to unfair competition, and otherwise weak songs winning over weak competition. Or maybe they aren't as strong/weak as suggested? I suppose the tournament will show, although it will prove susceptible to the same problem. Oh and the results? Little Red share most of their votes with their competitor and just edge ahead, Flo Rida manages to be the only survivor of those 3 massive pop/dance songs that debuted around the same time, Birds of Tokyo qualify with the exact same score that fellow WA band Gyroscope managed in the previous round, 30 Seconds To Mars & Jason Derulo provide the first ever tiebreaker between songs finishing in 1st, and Katy Perry just sneaks ahead of a mixed market of competitors.

And finally, the last of the heats is finished! But what happened in them? Well Lupe Fiasco edged ahead in the biggest group we've ever had, and a lot of people clearly made an effort to get revenge for my blunder this week, and Brooke Fraser almost qualifies too, but for the time being, is merely tied with Chris Brown who clearly has made a greater contribution to music than The Beatles, hahahaha Also sadly, Barbra Streisand received more votes than Robert Smith. Drapht started with an early lead before Wynter overtook HIM, and she looked clear to win the round until a late move by Bruno Mars put him equal with her, and that's how it remains at the end of the round. People will be shocked to hear that Neon Trees & Alexis Jordan qualified, funnily enough, they faced off with their lesser hits in a tiebreaker in the last game, but this time they'll have to get into the grand final to compete again. But it doesn't always distribute nicely as we already know, and grr for my most played artists from their respective territories having to battle. Yes, Leon & Tokyo are very underrepresented in the chart outside of their kings & birds respectively, but the latter has made a second impression into the top 64.

I regret not splitting up the voting for the tiebreakers, because today's vote is going to look silly. I've mentioned the In Limbo voting without going into depth. The way it worked was simple. For the 2nd place getters in the weeks with 10 debuts, they would join an additional pool where the top 4 would advance. These songs are ranked by how many votes they received in their heats. Some of these were tied and had to be decided just then (Muse & Ke$ha ftr). And here's how the table looks:

What are technically a WA supergroup manage to win over another, presumably due to making the mistake of having a non-WA member amongst their collective of two. Or maybe it's Israel's fault, I like blaming him. Muse's song that is commonly misconceived to be written for Twilight wins over Powderfinger's song that assumably also wasn't written for Twilight, although I'm yet to get confirmation on that one. Sadly Match 7 couldn't find an Australian song to use, but an NZ one surely will suffice. It certainly did in the voting. I've run out of ridiculous things to say, maybe I should steal some of Bruno's, it certainly helped him get the votes.

Good news for people who read these things (who are totally awesome and way cooler than people who don't, of course!) because I've put an effort into this one! For the 2nd time in a row, the #1 seed has bowed out in the 3rd round. With Wild At Heart through alongside Plans, it sets up the first same artist battle for this series. It's also worth noting that Plans advances with double digits for the 3rd round in a row (4th if you include the qualifier). B.o.B is the only non-Australian qualifier tonight, though he didn't have an Australian opponent anyway. Zoe Badwi didn't either, perhaps that's what gave her the edge? I should also mention that I wasn't supposed to put 4 matches up on Wednesday but by the time I realised it was too late, so it's down to 2 matches at a time now.

Freefallin's progress is rather impressive, as it only qualified for the tournament as a tiebreaker. It beat Bruno Mars to get here, so seemingly as revenge, Nothin' On You takes its place in the semi finals. It's a sad day for innocuous music, because the ones that arguably fit that description the most are seen out. As a side note, if anyone loves statistics, I've put the seeding list from the previous game in the top post of its thread, with hopefully a better explanation of how it works than what I've said before. I'd do it for this game too, but am yet to do so as it is slightly more complicated. There may be more to come too.
Results
Both had been clinging on for dear life over the past few rounds, so it comes as not a total surprise that Nothin' On You and You've Got The Love stumble at the penultimate hurdle. Handily these were by large enough margins that I could safely prepare this post much earlier! The advancing songs? Well last season/series/game/whatever's final featured two soaring pop anthems (your mileage may vary) which were still miles apart in overall sound. And as something different, we have two rock (or as close as you're going to get to it) songs left in play, with Plans & Animal, which despite the similar titles, offer different sides of the spectrum much like the original combatants. Both have had relatively cruisey runs to the final (more on that later), but only one can be victorious!*
