Forum - General: Sport related - AFL - Scores 2012

With the NAB Cup beginning tonight between Hawthorn, North Melbourne and Richmond, here's the appropriate thread for this year's scores and also for the discussion of anything AFL. This year sees 23 rounds of games, with each team playing 22 games and having a bye which are distributed in the shortened rounds 11, 12 and 13. This year also sees the introduction of the Greater Western Sydney Giants, increasing the league's number of teams to 18.

Ohh Richmond won so then all 3 teams won, then who goes through?? I'm guessing Hawthorn. This format is very confusing.

Also what is BIS? Is that Gold Coast's stadium? Thank you for doing this irelander.
Whoops of course for some reason I thought GWS meant Gold Coast
Last edited:
Gold Coast's is Metricon Stadium. 'BIS', as the newly added venue table will tell you, is GWS's training facility in Blacktown, suburb of Sydney. It will be one of three home grounds for the Giants (along with ANZ Stadium and Manuka Oval) until Round 9 when they unveil the new Skoda Stadium.

Oh, um, there are four weeks of NAB Cup games which then create a ladder, and the top two of that ladder will play in the NAB Cup Grand Final in the fifth week.

*Essendon were unable to make their flight to Wangaratta, and because St Kilda had made it there by bus, the game was called off. As such, the AFL has ruled that St Kilda will be awarded the win and four points added for them on the NAB Cup ladder.

Do you have the ladder? Crows would be near the top wouldn't they? Fingers crossed we make the grand final! I remember the 2008 Nab Cup grand final was one of the most electric Crows games I went to.

Brenton Sanderson has won more premierships in 4 weeks than Neil Craig did in 7 years.
Not a hard feat tbh Still though, from early signs, he seems the right guy for the job to take the Crows forward. Hopefully McCartney will be likewise for the Bulldogs.

Some interesting games this round, including GWS's first game at their newly renovated stadium, Skoda Stadium. The Western Derby and Adelaide-Collingwood games should be exciting.

I re-did my final Top 8 predictions by using Bailey Ladders' Ladder & Finals Predictor to select who I felt would win their remaining home & away season matches, without guessing particular winning margins. Here's my predictions...

http://i46.tinypic.com/ionjpk.png

Predictor - http://www.afl.com.au/bailey%20ladder%20predictor/tabid/13046/default.aspx

So I feel that the loss to the Dorkers yesterday is gonna be a costly one. I think it will leave us a game out of the Top 4 and therefore not a serious chance to take the flag. We'd beat your mob in an elimination final though Chrissy. At least I've got those buggers finishing outside the 8 on percentage. Oh, the heartache! heheh

(sorry for putting my earlier preds in the wrong thread Irish ;P)
Your team sucks, we beat you earlier in the year, we can do it again

We have alot of good players returning over the next two weeks, game on.

Last edited:
I'm surely you've seen it, but Matthew Pavilich 8.2 (50) def West Coast Eagles 6.12 (48)

Poor Eagles though

I'm predicting the Hawks to win the Premiership, with either the Swans or Cats in the Grand Final with them (unsure about the Crows and Magpies). The Eagles, Bombers and Dockers will round out the 8, with the Saints missing out at 9, and Gold Coast for the wooden spoon
Not on our turf you didn't Chrissy. It would be our home final. Do the predictor Travie.
We'll see when it comes to it, we might not even finish 8th
I rather your mob makes it than the Dorkers, especially if we had to play them in an elimination final.
I meant we could finish 7th if we beat North, Carlton & Richmond in the next 3 weeks maybe even 6th
I was thinking Gold Coast were a certaintly to win next week as GWS (with that win) had gotten all they need out the season and would want the number 1 pick..... BUT Gold Coast got a lot of injuries in their game against Melbourne so I'm starting to doubt now.

I also reckon the Top 8 is basically decided, Fremantle might scrap in but I suspect that they will just miss out maybe by percentage. West Coast are gone the injuries have finally caught up with them. At this stage Hawthorn look most likely to win the Premiership with either Collingwood or Sydney making the Grand Final, Geelong will come home strong but will most likely fall just short.
I've gone through the Ladder Predictor on the AFL site and I have the ladder as

1. Sydney 76
2. Adelaide 72
3. Collingwood 68
4. Hawthorn 64
5. Geelong 60
6. North Melbourne 56
7. West Coast 52
8. Essendon 52 (only by a very small percentage margin)

9. Fremantle 52 (may make the 8 if they can beat Melbourne in Rd 23 by a good margin)
10. St Kilda 48
11. Carlton 44
12. Richmond 40
13. Brisbane 36
14. Port Adelaide 20
15. Western Bulldogs 20
16. Melbourne 16
17. Gold Coast 8
18.GWS Giants 8

A Port Adelaide player has died in Las Vegas on an end-of-season trip.

It has been confirmed that it was ex-Collingwood player John McCarthy.

^I heard about that, very sad news

But such good games this past week, go FREMANTLE and WEST COAST!!!

Looks like they've both got a hard job ahead, with Adelaide and Collingwood respectively.

I still think Hawthorn and Sydney will still play in the Grand Final, with the Hawks winning the GF by 15 pts.
I have to agree with Trav D. It looks like a Hawthorn/Sydney Grand Final. Although I'd still think Collingwood would have a good shot at beating Sydney in their Prelim Final (if they can get past West Coast).

I can't see either West Coast or Fremantle being able to win three games on the road to win the flag though. So I'd expect both to lose this week, although Freo have at least half a chance against the Crows. West Coast virtually no chance against the Pies. They just don't play well at the MCG.

Tomorrow's Grand Final between Hawthorn and Sydney will be the third time these teams have met this season. Sydney won in Tasmania early in the season but Hawthorn beat the Swans in Sydney just before the finals. With the possible weather for tomorrow, plus the fact that only two teams have cracked the 100 during this finals series, my guess is tomorrow will be quite low scoring. Even though I think this will the benefit the Swans somewhat, my tip will be Hawthorn to win by 11 points.

Sydney are the Premiers, defeating Hawthorn 91 to 81.
Good game.
Best game in a few years for me, v close all the way.
Go Sydneyyy! Their second quarter was brilliant.
Solid game of Footy yesterday. Not as good as the 2006 Grand Final (WCE vs. SYD), but a very good performance from both teams. Bring on 2013!

Oh, and I predict Melbourne Storm to win by 8 pts in the NRL grand final.
