Link to the ARIA Top 50 Singles: http://www.ariacharts.com.au/pages/charts_display_singles.asp?chart=1U50 (updated after 6:00pm)

Flo Rida has the two longest running No.1 songs of 2012 so far, as “Whistle” matches the six weeks that “Wild Ones” spent at the top of the ARIA Singles chart back in January and February. This also takes his tally of weeks at No.1 to 22 weeks, the only artist so far to accumulate that many weeks at the chart pinnacle, and if he stays on top for next week he will equal John Farnham and his total of 23 weeks, whilst Michael Jackson is just ahead of them at 24 weeks (1940 to 2012 for both). Also if “Whistle” stays atop another week it will equal Flo’s seven weeks he racked up on “Right Round” and it will equal not only that song, but another Atlantic Records long-running No.1, “Gloria” for Laura Branigan (February 83).

The entire Top 5 stays stable this week, with “Payphone” for Maroon 5 holding for a second week at No.2, “Call Me Maybe” for Carly Rae Jepsen is at No.3 and now her twelfth week inside the Top 3 and her only three positions with the Top 10 have been either 1, 2 or 3. “Back in Time” for Pitbull at No.4 and Chris Brown’s “Don’t Wake Me Up” at No.5 both hold onto their peak positions for a second week.

The Voice contestant Darren Percival debuts at No.6, but more on that in The Voice section below. Ed Sheeran drops a place to No.7 with his “Lego House”, Nicki Minaj drops two places to No.9 with her “Starships” and down one place to No.10 is Rihanna with “Where Have You Been”. In amongst them is “The Fighter” for Gym Class Heroes, which climbs five places to No.8 becoming their third successive Top 10 entry after “Stereo Hearts” (HP-4 Oct 2011) and “Ass Back Home” (HP-1 March 2012).

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Katy Perry halves her position of No.26 last week to jump up thirteen places to No.13 with “Wide Awake”. James Morrison continues his weekly new peaks, as “I Won’t Let You Go” is up two places No.14. But leaping fifty places to No.15 is Jay Sean and Pitbull with Jay’s new track “I’m All Yours”, now the highest placing in the world for this track (so far), as it’s only just debuted at No.53 and No.85 in Canada and the USA respectively.
Rita Ora jumps up fourteen places to No.20 with her first chart entry here, “How We Do (Party)” and right behind her, up two places to No.21 are Coldplay and Rihanna with their “Princess of China”. Jason DeRulo’s debut last week at No.39 for “Undefeated” improves three places this week to No.36, and entering the Top 50 for the time are Karmin with “Broken Hearted”, up fifteen places to No.37, and “Gold on the Ceiling” for The Black Keys, which is up sixteen spots to No.40.

DRAMA DROPS: “Gold” for Guy Sebastian drops eight places to No.18 after debuting at No.10 last week, and other high profile debuts from last week that drop include Kylie Minogue’s “Timebomb” (12 to 44), “Die in Your Arms” for Justin Bieber drops nineteen spots to No.50 (from a 31 debut), and for the first time this century, a Eurovision winning song stays around for a second week inside the Top 100, as “Euphoria” for Loreen is down thirty four places to No.70 (from No.36).

THE VOICE (Episode 8):
The Judges: Delta Goodrem has had one of her slowest descending hits ever, as “Sitting on Top of the World” is down one place to No.12 after eight weeks in the Top 20/100. So far she has moved: 2-3-5-8-10-10-11-12. Seal’s re-entry of “Kiss from a Rose” last week drops only three places to No.52 this week. And Seal’s former mentor Ricki-Lee drops ten places to No.29 this week.
The Contestants: Darren Percival scores the highest new entry of the week coming in at No.6 with “I Believe (When I Fall in Love it will be Forever)” {Stevie Wonder 1972}. This also becomes the highest charting song by a Voice contestant beating the No.7 peak Brittany Cairns achieved with “Different Worlds” (TW-15 to 64) three weeks ago.
Diana Rouvas debuts at No.16 with “I Can’t Make You Love Me” {Bonnie Raitt HP-77, March 1992). Ben Hazlewood debuts one place lower at No.17 with “I’m With You” {Avril Lavigne 2002 not released here}.
Sarah De Bono took on Whitney Houston’s “How Will I Know” (HP-2 peaked April 1986) which debuts at No.24, and Adam Martin enters a couple of places lower at No.26 with his rendition of the Dire Straits song “Romeo and Juliet”. The original has never charted in Australia before (first single from their third album “Making Movies” in 1981), but it does debut this week at No.57.
Karise Eden drops eighteen places to No.32 from last weeks No.14 debut for her rendition of “Landslide”, plus she also slips down twenty-three places to No.66 with “Nothing’s Real But Love”, whilst the Rebecca Ferguson original is down twenty-one spots to No.38. The last Top 50 debut for a Voice contestant this week is at No.39, Lakyn Heperi with The Cure song “Friday I’m in Love” (HP-39 peaked 7-June 1992), so the song has claimed the same peak exactly 20 years apart to the very week.
Lower 50: Fatia V drops thirty places to No.55 with “Ave Maria”; Brittany Cairns not only drops forty-nine places to No.64 with “Different Worlds”, the original drops out of the Top 100 from No.47, and she debuts at No.65 with her rendition of the Silverchair song “Straight Lines” (HP-1x4 March 2007). Darren Percival’s “Wherever I Lay My Hat” drops thirty ones places to No.68. Sarah De Bono is down forty-two places to No.80 with “Listen”, and Diana Rouvas falls twenty-seven places to No.82 with another Beyonce song “Love on Top”.
Lakyn’s “Big Jet Plane” is down nineteen spots to No.86, with the original down thirteen places to No.81. There’s a fifty-six spot fall to No.97 for Rachael Leahcar’s “Someone to Watch Over Me”, and Emma-Louise Birdsall is down forty-one places to No.99 with her version of “The Look of Love”. We also say goodbye from the Top 100 to seven songs; “I Can’t Stand the Rain” for Chris Sebastian (HP-69), “Lego House” for Ben Hazlewood (HP-35), “Closer” for Glenn Cunningham (HP-79), “Forever Young” Lakyn Heperi (HP-26), “Hands” Rachael Leacher (HP-15), “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Viktoria Bolonina (HP-92) and “It’s a Man’s Man’s World” by Karise Eden (HP-41).

Below the five Voice debuts come Nicki Minaj coming in at No.33 with “Pound the Alarm”, her follow-up to the No.2 single “Starships” (TW-9), and the second single here from “Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded” (TW-36). Entering the Top 100 right behind her at No.34 is Justin Bieber feat Ludacris on JB’s new track “All Around the World”. Last weeks debut of “Die in Your Arms” at No.31 drops down to No.50, and he is also at No.28 with “Boyfriend”.

Will.i.am is set to release his fourth solo album later this year, and the second single from the album is entitled “This is Love”, which debuts at No.42 this week featuring guest vocalist Eva Simons. The first track from the album was “T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever) featuring Jennifer Lopez and Mick Jagger, which made it to No.57 here.

Lower 50: Olly Murs moves up one place from his debut last week to a new peak of No.62 with “Dance With Me Tonight”. “The A Team” for Ed Sheeran rebounds twenty-four places to No.69, and Azealia Banks “212” has now been renamed “1991 EP” and it rises back up fifteen places to No.72. Lisa Mitchell leaps twenty-four places to a new peak of No.74 with “Spiritus”, and returning to the Top 100 this week are Cher Lloyd at No.85 with “Want U Back”; “Need You Now” for Lady Antebellum at No.91 and “Party Rock Anthem” by LMFAO returns at No.98.

There are two more new entries in the lower fifty this week, both by female Australian singers. Firstly coming in at No.90 is Clare Bowditch with “You Make Me Happy”, and Missy Higgins is in at No.94 with “Everyone’s Waiting”, taken from her new album.

Missy Higgins’s third studio album (and first in five years) debuts at No.1 this week entitled “The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle”. Of the ten Australian female solo performers to hit No.1 Missy now joins Olivia Newton-John, Kylie Minogue and Delta Goodrem in scoring three No.1 albums, putting them in equal second place behind Kasey Chambers who has managed four chart-topping albums here.

“The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle” is the sixth No.1 for the Eleven label (two previous by Missy, two from Silverchair and Gotye from last year). And as Missy’s new album becomes the 647th No.1 album in Australia (1965 to 2012) and the 506th for ARIA (1983 to 2012), it was exactly 100 No.1 albums ago that she was last at No.1, her “On a Clear Night” being the 547th and 406th No.1 album here. Plus as she lands at the top spot, her new album becomes the 308th No.1 debut (1965 to 2012) and the 307th for ARIA (1983 to 2012).

There have never been albums with the words ‘ol’, ‘razzle’ or ‘dazzle’ at the top of our album charts, and the album becomes the 151st Australian performed album to reach No.1. Missy is the 92nd female solo performer to hit No.1, and the first Australian female solo recording artist this decade, as Natalie Bassingthwaighte’s “1000 Stars” album was the last local female singer to reach No.1 here back in March 2009.

Keith Urban holds at No.2 with his “The Story So Far” collection, in part thanks to his performance with his team on The Voice on Monday night, and also on hold is One Direction with “Up All Night” at No.3. Returning to the top five is Ed Sheeran’s “+” which rises back up two places to No.4, pushing “The Temper Trap” by the band of the same name down one place to No.5.

In March of 2011, US country singer Alan Jackson scored his first Top 10 entry here as his “34 Number Ones” compilation made it to No.7. This week he scores his second Top 10 placement, as his seventeenth studio album “Thirty Miles West” does one better than last years set by debuting at No.6 this week. It also becomes his eight studio album to chart here and his twelfth overall (8 studio and 4 best of’s).

John Mayer drops from No.1 to No.7 with last week’s chart-topper “Born and Raised”. Seal returns to the Top 10 at No.8 with his “Hits” collection. Former tourists Florence + the Machine drop four places to No.9 with “Ceremonials”, and holding on at No.10 for a 70th week inside the Top 10 is Adele’s “21”. This matches the 70 weeks that P!nk’s “I’m Not Dead” achieved during its 207 week run. Once it falls out of the Top 10 I will list the overall longest running Top 10 albums of all time in Australia.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: 360 climbs seven places to No.12 with his former No.4 album “Falling and Flying”, but scoring new peaks are Alston with “Don’t Funk With Me”, up six places to No.16; The Bee Gees are also up six places to No.17 with “The Number Ones”, whilst last weeks No.7 placed “The Ultimate Bee Gees” is down eight places to No.15 this week. “The Voice: The Final 24” rises eight places to a new peak of No.18 and Skrillex returns his “Bangarang” EP to the Top 20, back up six places to No.19.
Rebecca Ferguson is back up nine places to No.22 with “Heaven”, and for its 300th week within the Top 100, “The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac” jumps back up twenty places to No.29. This is the FIRST album to achieve 300 or more weeks within the Top 100 for ARIA and prior.
The Foo Fighters “Greatest Hits” leaps back up twenty-eight places to No.31; Whitney Houston’s “The Ultimate Collection” is back up twenty-five spots to No.32. “Stronger” for Kelly Clarkson is up twenty-eight places to No.33, and P!nk’s “Greatest Hits… So Far” jumps back up thirty-two places to No.39. “Live – One Night Only” for the Bee Gees returns to the Top 50, up nine places to No.43, Good Charlotte leap thirty-eight places to a new peak of No.45 after Joel and his teams performance of ‘Dance Song Anthem’ on last weeks The Voice, and lastly back up forty places to No.48 is “The Very Very Best of Crowded House”.

Sydney metal core band Buried in Verona make their first ARIA Albums Chart appearance with their third album entitled “Notorious”, which lands at No.20 this week. And also making their first chart impression is Melbourne soul-funk band The Bamboos who debut at No.28 with their seventh studio album “Medicine Man”. This album features a lot of guest appearances from local singers including Aloe Blacc, Megan Washington, Tim Rogers, Daniel Merriweather and Bobby Flynn.

The 34th studio album for legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young is entitled “Americana”, and it debuts at No.34 featuring his many-time collaborators Crazy Horse. His entire Australian albums chart history is listed below…

Also charting with their second album is local singer Sam Sparro who debuts at No.41 with “Return to Paradise”. His self-titled first album made it to No.23 in July 2008, and this new album was preceded by the track “Happiness” which has gone to No.1 in Belgium.

Yay at Rita Ora - How We Do (Party) becoming a hit. First ever Kosovan in the ARIA Top 50
Oh I just assumed she was British
Sad that Passion Pit couldn't chart and really surprised Clare Bowditch sold enough to do so! Also disappointed that Wild Ones stayed in but go Dire Straits!
No Avril Lavigne or Bonnie Raitt is disappointing. I was sure Avril had sold enough to make it. I'm With You had been in the 40's & 50's on Itunes for most of the week - oh well!!!.

I'm glad to see Dire Strait's Romeo & Juliet finally chart for the first time after 31+ years. It highlights how poor Adam Martin's version is though IMO. If you're going to do a cover at least try to add something of your own personality and not just do an impersonation. Mark Knopfler could get away it because that was his style.
Poor Loreen, didn't even get a second week!
Loreen did make the unique distinction of spending a second week in the Top 100, no other Eurovision this century has last more than one week. Nova in Melbourne is now even playing it.
I think it will be a few weeks before we know if Euphoria will be a hit or not, its being played on radio now and its actually rising on itunes so It might be able to get back into the top 50
I saw somewhere that Euphoria was the 4th most added track to radio last week if thateven means anything of importance.

Yay for double platinum. Sad to see Kimbra finally end her unbroken run in the top 50.

Good going Adele, I was worried that last week's drop was a sign of things to come. Rather disappointed that this stayed in the top 10 over Never Let Me Go though.

Probably one of the best The Voice performances. Really hope Darren makes it to the final (he probably will).

Dire Straits' "Romeo & Juliet" wasn't released and didn't chart in Oz. It was played as an album track.

I'm blown away by the longevity
I've added this week's ARIA Top 100 Singles chart entries to my site (I will add the Karaoke Shit™ later).

Hear them all here - http://top100singles.blogspot.com/2012/01/every-aria-top-100-single-in-2012.html
I thought Marilyn Manson's Born Villain 1st & 2nd week ranking was bad (16-51)

Scissor Sisters (27-85)

And Ladyhawke (17-59) ...great album though!!!!

And Adam Lambert is suffering.

This week's karaoke shitty goodness has been added to my site now.

I suppose one-quarter of the Top 50 being either karaoke (7), Bieber (3) or Pitbull (3) ain't so bad

Can you imagine PARTY ROCK ANTHEM by PARTY ROCK ANTHEM doing the same in Australia? Can always be worse

hey the karaoke might be back sooner than you think. X-Factor starts in July, a couple of weeks after The Voice finishes. So we could continue with the current chart karaoke, although it might not be as high flying as The Voice.
The X Factor doesn't exploit the charts though, at least not yet.
