DISCUSSION FORUM
Forum - General: Forum Games - Saturday Night Trivia!

I guess it was my turn sooner or later to run a game. With irelander's game about to finish this makes good timing for this one!

This idea came last Saturday, when there were lots of members sitting in chat with absolutely nothing to do.

The Rules:
-I will post a series of questions every Saturday Night. The goal is to answer as many questions as you can, obtaining the most amount of points. Answering the question will reward you with the corresponding amount of points stated with each question.
-Send your answers in to me by memo.
-Whoever has the most amounts of points at the end of each night wins the round!
-I plan to post the questions the questions at 7:00pm. All the answers are due in by 10:30.
-Use any means to find the answer.
-If you want to change your answers, memo me clarifying the change.
-Maybe in the future other members can write their own questions and do some rounds themselves.

Hopefully you all can join tonight These questions are quite different to what you might expect in a normal trivia night, as I tried to cover all aspects of chart music.

*these 3 from irelander are interesting because although they're quite different, the 'thing' still happens and although it's not exactly a kick that is sped up, it's the light RnB that is, and it gives the same effect. This is probably where the whole thing came from. I've decided these are correct because they're the same thing, just in a different context.

Congratulations to Hijinx for winning the first round with full points!

Question 1 - Should be New Empire- One Hearts/Million Voices. Quite easy, the answer should be found in the comments if you don't know it.

Question 2 - The biggest fall from #1 was Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On, falling from #1 to #34? Some people submitted Jesse McCartney

Question 3 - The honour goes to The Black Eyed Peas who had Boom Boom Pow and I Gotta Feeling going #1 everywhere in 2009. However, I simply said "in a year" and Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and Shaggy also achieved the same feat, but across two years, in the space of year. I should have stated "in a calender year" but I've decided to reward the points for these other answers.

Question 4 - Jay-Z and Glee achieved this.

Question 5 - Lighthouse Family - High was the answer

Question 6 - These 3 places were named in Enya's Orinoco Flow

Question 7 - It was 97 times. 25 times in each chorus, 20 times in the final repeat of the chorus and 2 times at the start. It seems like I tricked people when I said "100" in my review and I think Daniel counted "shaking" as 1.

If you scored 98 or 96, I took away 1 mark, 99 or 95 I took away 2. etc.

Question 8 - I explained before, if your song is not on the list, then it was correct. BillyBrett however said "Mykl"?! Care to explain this?

Question 9 - Alley peaked Olly Murs at #2. Bsb and Daniel did have it at #3 but pretty much everyone got this correct!

Question 10 - Charice - Pyramid was the answer I was looking for, however Hijinx and irelander both put up something interesting....

Thanks for playing guys! This will come back next week!
Last edited:
My Heart Will Go On dropped to #24, Jesse stumbled spectacularly to #15

In regards to my response of Mykl to Question 8 it was clearly meant to be my guess for Question 9.

Whoops! My apologies BB. You did well considering it was off the top of your head. you needed to think hard or research well to answer most questions. This may not be the case next week, though!

ROUND 2

1. (1 Point)
Which artist dominated the main categories of the Grammy Awards this year?

2. (2 Point)
Which album holds the record for the most weeks spent at #1 in the United States?

3. (3 Points)
Which song made the biggest jump to #1 on the ARIA Charts?

4. (3 Points)
Which artist has the word “party” as part of the URL of his/her/their official Website?

5. (4 Points, 2 Marks Each)
Name two artists that has had 5 or more songs chart in the ARIA top 50, but has never hit the top 10.

6. (3 Points)
Watch this music video of Olly Murs’ Heart Skips A Beat.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5dFe-WKuPs

Now watch this music video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJO3ROT-A4E

Who is wearing the same style of clothes as Olly?

7. (8 Points)
Has there ever been a song that has spent one week at every position in the top 10 (in ARIA)? (i.e. Spent a week at #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #9 and #10 each). If there hasn’t, which song is the closest to do so?

8. (5 Points)
Here is my piano cover of a piece of music. Identify the song and where it comes from. (Sorry for the poor quality, I just learnt it and recorded it in the last half hour!)

http://www.fileden.com/files/2012/6/4/3312157/Memo.m4a
(Let me know if this doesn't work)

9. (5 Points)
Which recent-ish top 10 hit begins with these lyrics:
“I’ve decided to write a song, about something we all hate, some might call it an invention, but most would debate. It’s predominantly about hating ...”

10. (6 Points)
Find the longest song name with the most letters! Whoever submits to me the longest title with the most letters gets the most points! A Space doesn’t count as a letter, symbols, puntuations marks and numbers count as a letter each.

The song has to exist in at least three of these places:
-The Aus Charts Database
-Youtube
-A Lyrics Website
-Spotify Database
-Last.fm Database

Good luck! Remember to send your answers in by memo. If you have any issues let me know! All answers due in by 10:30pm!

I would like to clarify Question 7, A song CAN spend more than one week at a position:

Eg. 1-4-3-2-5-5-7-8-6-10-8-10-5-11...is ALLOWED, except all the positions except for #9 has been filled.

Eg. 2: 1-1-2-2-3-3-2-2-4-4-5-7-8-6-10-9-8-7-13-etc. - is Also ALLOWED except this beats Example 1 because ALL places have been filled. (I've had a song with a similar run on my personals )
ANSWERS and RESULTS of ROUND TWO

Question 1 - Adele won Song, Record and Album of the year with her song "Rolling In The Deep" and album "21."

Question 2 - West Side Story (Soundtrack) was on top in the US for 54 weeks!

Question 3 - Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2 U had the biggest jump going from #37 to #1. However, BillyBrett put in Candle In The Wind 1997, which is also true since (sales numbers wise) it had the biggest ‘jump’ to #1.

Question 4 - I originally was thinking Kesha (which Daniel and Alley got) but Hijinx submitted Knife Party and TravD and irelander also said Bloc Party, which are all correct.

Question 5 - More artists than I thought achieved this!

Sneaky Sound System - Alley, Trav, Daniel
Grinspoon - Hijinx, irelander
Muse - Hijinx, Daniel
Jebediah - Anton
(The) John Butler Trio - Trav
Jet - Anton
You Am I - irelander

Question 6 - Louis Tomlinson is wearing the same clothes as Olly

Question 7 - I actually didn't know the correct answer to this, I thought Evermore's Light Surrounding You was the closest but Sandi Thom - I Wish I Was A Punk Rocker has been at all positions in the top 10, much to my surprise!

Question 8 - Well....this piece of music was the theme song to the movie: Schindler's List (I hope you all have seen it!). It's good to know that there's been a question that no on has been able to answer.
Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLK5OWU2YGw
Maybe the difficult part was that it wasn't actually in the movie, but just in the opening and closing credits.

Question 9 - Newton Faulkner's I Hate Mondays has these lyrics.

Question 10 - Woah! I got huge responses, but the one with the most character was submitted by Daniel:

"Regretting What I Said to You When You Called Me 11:00 On a Friday Morning to Tell Me that at 1:00 Friday Afternoon You're Gonna Leave Your Office, Go Downstairs, Hail a Cab to Go Out to the Airport to Catch a Plane to Go Skiing in the Alps for Two Weeks, Not that I Wanted to Go With You, I Wasn't Able to Leave Town, I'm Not a Very Good Skier, I Couldn't Expect You to Pay My Way, But After Going Out With You for Three Years I Don't Like Surprises" by Christine Lavin (358 Characters)

TravD, Alley, BillyBrett and irelander had:

"The Sad But True Story Of Ray Mingus, The Lumberjack Of Bulk Rock City, And His Never Slacking Stribe In Exploiting The So Far Undiscovered Areas Of The Intention To Bodily Intercourse From The Opposite Species Of His Kind, During Intake Of All The Mental Condition That Could Be Derived From Fermentation" by Rednex (254 Characters)

Hijinx had:

"There's A Good Reason These Tables Are Numbered Honey, You Just Haven't Thought Of It Yet" by Panic! At The Disco (75 Characters).

So here's the results!

Well done irish and Travie. It's good to see that it won't be the same winner every week.
But it seems it may be the same last place every week LOL
I've seen Schindler's List a number of times and it's one of my favourite films ever, but I'm no good at that sort of stuff tbh I thought it was from In Bruges
While most people didn't even bother having a go, Hijinx and Alley both hazarded a guess with Harry Potter Nice try I guess!
I just realised that I won't be here this Saturday, so anyone is welcome to do make up their own questions and do their own round this Saturday Memo me if you're interested.
I'd be good at coming up with some questions but I wouldn't know the answers to them. lol. 'tis pretty much why I don't play the quiz. heh
Since antonnalan isn't around tonight, I'm posting the trivia questions.

ROUND 3

1. (6 points, 2 for each piece of information)
Which 2 artists jointly hold the record for most #1 singles on the Australian charts? How many do they have?

Which artist's 2 most famous songs in Europe both include "shine" as part of the title?

4. (1 point)
What is the name of the performing rights organisation in Australia?

5. (4 points, 2 points for each piece of information)
Name the artist and album that was propelled to a number 1 debut following a Dancing With The Stars performance, despite the album having been released 3 months prior to the performance.

6. (3 points)
Which top ten hit mentioned the twist in the movie "The Sixth Sense"?

7. (1 point)
Which country's charts are compiled by Media Control?

8. (6 points)

9. (2 points)
Which band from New Zealand had a (minor) hit with a song that has the same title as the #1 on my end-of-decade chart?

10. (7 points)
For whom was the track "Dance Away The Blues" a massive hit in the USA?

Send your answers in by memo by 10:30pm. Good luck everybody!
ANSWERS and RESULTS of ROUND 3

1. The Beatles, Madonna, 11 (this excludes retroactively created charts, which some people quote as giving The Beatles, etc. 20+ number 1s. Most people managed to get either The Beatles or Madonna though.)
2. Elton John, Candle In The Wind '97, 14xP, LMFAO, Party Rock Anthem, 11xP
3. Katrina And The Waves ("Walking On Sunshine" and their Eurovision-winning "Love Shine A Light")
4. APRA
5. Westlife, Face To Face
6. Jizz In My Pants
7. Germany
8. B'z, Japan, 46
9. Evermore
10. Melissa McCammon (The song was written and recorded by Sheena Easton, but was an album track. It only became a massive hit in the episode "Falling Star" of the TV show The Outer Limits for the character played by Easton, Melissa McCammon. In the episode, her character was propelled to superstardom by this song. This question was pretty diabolical, so not surprisingly no one got it. Some did make the connection to Sheena Easton though)

Good night
The answer to question 9 was Evermore?! Argh I think I did well considering I only had half an hour to answer the questions. Good quiz ChartGuru, definitely a little on the harder side than what people were expecting haha.
Sorry for the lateness, but the Trivia is still on! Also apologies that the quality of the questions aren't as great this week.

1. (8 Points, 2 points for each artist)

Hi everyone, I've just had some personal issues to deal with, answers coming very soon.
ANSWERS!

Question 1: I originally had The Black Eyed Peas, Katy Perry, Rihanna and Karise Eden, which most of you guys got, but Alley also cleverly pointed out Kesha and Delta Goodrem.
Trav said Fergie, which comes very close, but her first song fell out of the top 10 just a year before her last song went top 10.

Question 2: Bad Romance - Lady Gaga and Adele - Someone Like You all have 20 English 6 star reviews.

Question 3: Call Me Maybe with 809 spins holds the record.

Question 4: Everyone said Pete Murray's Free which spent 4 weeks at #50.

Question 5: I think I wasn't specific enough with this question. Hijinx submitted Bing Crosby, Daniel had I Will Always Love You, Trav had Unchained Melody / Killing Me Softly and Alley said Candle In The Wind.

Question 6: Beethoven (deaf) and Bach (blind) were the correct answer, but Trav said Joaquin Rodrigo, who is also blind.

Question 7: This questions was a little interesting too, I was thinking of Pumped Up Kicks, but everyone put in 'Inspirational' songs such as Beautiful (Aguilera), Born This Way and This Is Who I Am. I guess it was my fault for not being specific enough again, so I've given everyone 3/4.

Question 8: There were 3 hearts in Katy Perry's video, one on the pink headband at the start, one made of vines at the start of the maze and the Heart-shaped doorway after punching the Prince.

Question 9: Great answers everyone, good to see everyone pick up on some great answers. We had:

Tennessee Waltz
Jim Reeves - But You Loved Me Daddy
Sound Of Music - Favourite Things
Bob Dylan - Times They Are A-Changin'
Metallica - Nothing Else Matters
Elliott Smith - Walts #2
Seal - Kiss from a Rose
Avril Lavigne - I'm with You
Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway
R.E.M. - Daysleeper

I myself was thinking of Plans - Birds of Tokyo, The Only Exception - Paramore and Kiss From A Rose

ROUND 5 - This round shouldn't be too difficult!

1. (1 Points)
Where does the music streaming company Spotify originate from?

2. (5 Points)
How many songs since the start of Australian Idol have reached #1 from an artist that has been 'found' by a reality TV ‘talent-finding’ show (that have started since Idol)? Includes international TV Shows, excludes featured artists.

3. (2 Points)
What is the lowest ranked #1 song according to the Aus-Charts Best Of All Time?

4. (2 Points)
Which artist has won the most MTV Music awards?

5. (5 Points)
Name 5 artists that have an “alter ego”. Name the duplicate personality as well.

6. (3 Points)
Who was shot 4 times in the back and subsequently died? The person of course, must be relevant to music.

7. (5 Points)
How many songs are in the current ARIA top 50 that have lyrics that are NOT about love, being a slut (sex), dancing in a random club (includes getting drunk/drinking) or a breakup? What songs are they?

Note: Some songs will be quite ambiguous, as long as you can justify your claim then you could still get full marks even though you may have a different number.

8. (4 Points)
Find a song that has charted in the ARIA Top 50 that involves an African artist.

9. (3 Points)
Which song has this chart run?
38-27-22-11-4-2-1-1-1-1-1-2-2-4-4-5-5-8-8-13-16-19-23-26-32-33-34-42-45-47-50

Mr Know It All - Kelly Clarkson (American Idol)
Good Night - Reece Mastin (AUS X Factor)
Call Me Maybe - Carly Rae Jepsen (Canada Idol)
Stay With Me Baby - Karise Eden (AUS The Voice)

Question 3 - Karise Eden of course!

Question 4 - Madonna with 20

Question 5 - We got plenty here:

Nicki Minaj - Roman Zolanski
Beyonce - Sasha Fierce
Mariah Carey - Mimi
Eminem - Slim Shady
Lady Gaga - Jo Calderone
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust
B.o.B - Bobby Ray
Pitbull - Mr Worldwide

I didn't accept Hannah Montanna or Gaga as "Mother Monster."

Question 6 - John Lennon

Question 7 - We had different numbers, which is part of the beauty of music, we all can have different interpretations of things, even if it is Chart Music I do have a pet peev with lyrics, so it's always nice to see songs about something different now and then.

Songs:
The Fighter
Back In Time
Some Nights
Undefeated
Never Let Me Go
Child
Gold On The Ceiling
Beautiful
Burn It Down
Bangarang

Up for debate:
Brother
Wide Awake
Hallelujah

SO if you said 10-13, you would've got full marks!

Question 8 - My original answer was Freshlyground which featured in Waka Waka, and Youssou N'Dour is also a fantastic example. Daniel, although Akon is Senegalese, the other two were better examples as Akon is an American citizen. I've deducted a point.

Question 9 - Owl City - Fireflies

Technically, anton found another in Mali which is in 'Malibu' by Hole, as I specified that as long as the country name exists within the song title, then it counts.

However, any variation of the United States of America such as 'United States', 'USA' or 'America' did not count.

Hehe thanks for doing this round Irelander! It's nice to be able to play every now and then. For 90 minutes, this one was definitely quite hard
For the countries, I will now count Haiti so Chris and Daniel each get an extra mark.

LOL There is huge discussion on what the right/wrong answer should be, answers should be up before 11:00 pm
Okay! Answers

Question 1 - SongPop, very popular app that is spreading like wildfire at the moment, and most of the members on this site can see why And to think it is not even a month old. Angry Birds has about 3.3 Daily Million Users to put this is in perspective.

Question 2 - Crystal Waters - 100% Pure Love - No Dramas here

Question 3 - Sorry for making the question cryptic, I was asking how many times Ed specifically drunk alcohol. The answer was 13, which not everyone got. There were some misleading pictures with Ed opening cans, but there is no following image of him drinking, and there were some very quick flashes at the end of him drinking. I hope you didn't count the cat drinking either

Question 4 - Classical, Turkish March (there is indeed the more complicated name, I've accepted both) and Mozart! Trav accidentally said Beethoven though!

Question 5 - Bruno Mars has co-written 2 Flo Rida songs! Right Round and Who Dat Girl.

Question 6 - Huge debate on this at the moment, and I accept that it's kinda my fault. While if you go to the "Soundtrack" page, 19 soundtracks made #1, which was the answer I originally thought, but there are all these other TV Shows Soundtracks, including two Glee albums. (Be more specific next time anton!) So I'm giving everyone full marks, but BillyBrett gets a bonus mark for actually taking the effort to listing all of them, so it's worth scrolling through the list to see which albums have/have not made #1.

Cocktail
Beaches
I’m Breathless
Pretty Woman
Twin Peaks
Grease
Jesus Christ Superstar
The Bodyguard
The Adventures Of Priscilla : Queen Of The Desert
Forrest Gump
Dangerous Minds
William Shakespeare’s Romeo + Juliet
My Best Friend’s Wedding
Titanic
The Wedding Singer
City Of Angels
Songs From Ally McBeal
South Park: Chef Aid
Songs From Dawson’s Creek
Sydney 2000- Songs from the Official Opening Ceremony
Coyote Ugly
Moulin Rouge!
Bridget Jones’s Diary
8 Mile
Shrek 2
Sing-a-long and Lullabies for the film Curious George
High School Musical
Mamma Mia!
Glee Volume 3: Showstoppers
Glee Volume 5

Question 7 -
Albums - Silver (60,000), Gold (100,000), Platinum (300,000)
Singles - Silver (200,000), Gold (400,000), Platinum (600,000)
Music DVD - Gold (25,000), Platinum (50,000)

Was just looking for singles and albums.

Question 8 - Matchbox 20, damn I thought this question would be hard

Question 9 - Here are our responses:

Hijinx: mawedr995 because in addition to listing themself as a fan, they have the most comprehensive collection of Bieber reviews which are all 6-stars.

Daniel: bsb745 - he gave Believe 5 stars and it peaked at #1 on his personal album chart, My Worlds 4 stas, a 5 star average of his songs, and As Long As You Love Me and Boyfriend has charted in his top 10.

Alley: Bluezombie - he's the only person I can find that gave a six to a Bieber song (Baby)

Trav: Highest average for reviews - either BiancaBieber (mainly), bluezombie or bsb745

BillyBrett: Stevometal because he has reviewed every Bieber song released even if he has probably given them all 1 star.

D Man: bsb for the most consitant above-average reviews (singles & albums), with Bluezombie coming in second (just ).

LOL Interesting answers everyone! The point of this was to explore the site and use features such as Fans, Reviews and Personal Charts to see who was the biggest fan. I didn't care who you got, as long as you could justify your reasoning.

Wait a second while I fill in other answers:

ANSWERS

Question 1 – Muse – Survival of course!

Question 2 - There are also songs by Elton John vs Pnau, Dizzee Rascal, The Chemical Brothers and Delphic that are to be released. There is also press in the news about one from Mark Ronson and Katy B, although that wasn't announced when Surival was called to be the official song.

I apologise if this question was cryptic, but no one got it anyway.

Question 3 - Barcelona by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe

Question 4

Martin Solveig & Dragonette– Hello – Men’s Tennis, see the music video.
Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks – Shooting, as said in the lyrics
Evermore – Running – 3000m Steeplechase. This was a trick question, but due to the lyric “let my feet hit the ground running” this applies most here, even though they hit water, they are in the air and land running.
Daryl Braithwaite – The Horses - Equestrian
Jennifer Lopez – On The Floor (feat. Pitbull) – Floor Gymnastics, this one was hard.
Calvin Harris – Bounce (feat. Kelis) - Basketball
Shannon Noll – Lift - Weightlifting/Boxing
Birds of Tokyo – Wild At Heart – Synchronized Swimming (as in the video)
Operator Please – Just A Song About Ping Pong – Table Tennis
Mark Ronson & The Business Intl - The Bike Song – Cycling/Road Race

Question 5 - Kylie Minogue - On A Light Like This

Question 6 – People’s Republic of China! This is because they won the most medals and the National Anthem of the winning person’s country is played during the medal ceremony! I thought this question was obvious.

Question 7 -

Haha yeah that was Trav
Trivia is happening tonight! Make sure you stay tuned!
Trivia is back! Enjoy!

1. (2 Points)
Guy Sebastian debuted at the top of our charts with “Battle Scars” and has stayed at that position for 4 weeks. What was the last song to previously do that? (To debut at #1 and stay there for 4 consecutive weeks, this 'other' song could stay there for longer as well.)

2. (3 Points)
And which song holds the record for most consecutive weeks spent at #1 after debuting there?

3. (3 Points)
Gangnam Style has become an internet sensation, and now is speedily racing up the charts. How many countries has it reached #1 so far? Name the countries.

4. (5 Points)
How many songs in the current ARIA top 50 have a sample? Please name each song.

5. (5 Points)
Who Am I?
-Having been born and raised in America, I released my debut album a few years ago which became very successful worldwide.
-With my style being defined as a mix of reggae, hip hop, R&B, and pop, I have apparently become the only artist to achieve 2 songs with over 10 million digital downloads (I think this is outdated information, but Wikipedia says so!)
-My stage names come from a nickname from my father.

Remember that there is the extra clue available if you send a memo requesting it before 10pm.

6. (5 Points)
Which year since 1988 has achieved the least number of Australia #1s on the ARIA Charts?

7. (1 Points)
In The Nekci Menij Show (Episode 1), how many times does Rhenna change her hair? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1STYraYgVVw&feature=relmfu

8. (5 Points)
Rihanna is going to release another album this year. This now makes the 4th year in a row where she has released one album per year. Name another artist that has done this (releasing at least one album per year) and how many years have they been doing it?

9. (? Points)
Pick a musician that has a birthday today. Describe how the name of the artist or the band that the musician comes from has come about. The more informative the description is, the more marks that will be awarded. However, your description must be no more than 100 words!

RESULTS!

Question 1 - The last song to do that was Flo Rida's Right Round, which also did it for 4 weeks.

Question 2 - Lose Yourself holds the record! It debuted at #1 and held there for 12 weeks.

Question 3 - 3 Countries, Finland, Denmark and South Korea. At this rate, Australia and New Zealand can join the list too, even possibly the US.

Question 4 - Only 2 songs, Flo Rida's I Cry and Chiddy Bang's Mind Your Manners.

Question 5 - Bruno Mars

Question 6 - 1989 and 1999 both had no Aussie #1s, so both were correct. If you count Brian Mcfadden as non-Aussie, 2010 would count too.

Question 7 - 3 or 4 times. The 4th changeup can be classified as only a haircut or a change in hair style, not exactly a completely change of hair.

Question 8 - Some different answers here!

Hijinx - Chicago did it for 12 years in a row from 1969-1980 (5 Marks)

Antonnalan's answer - Hillsong did it from from 2002-2012, 11 Years

Daniel09 - Elton John from 1969 to 1976, 8 years.

Alley - Glee from 2009 - 4 years.

Question 9 - Great answers here too! Daniel09 received the most points for including a very relevant quote. Each person provided good information, and I awarded 1 point for each piece of info.

Hijinx - Today is Paul Thomson of Franz Ferdinand's birthday. The band's name is derived from Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria. Franz Ferdinand was a very notable man in the 20th century. He was made heir to the throne in Austria after his cousin committed suicide and his father died of typhoid fever, and he reigned for 25 years. He is most notable due to his assassination in 1914 being the catalyst to World War I. Though there were multiple combining factors causing it, this was considered the major one.

Daniel09 - It is Paul Thomson of Scottish band Franz Ferdinand's birthday today. The band name derives from the Austro-Hungarian Prince of Hungary and Bohemia, whose assassiation was the main trigger of the beginning of World War I. Paul expressed "I like the idea that, if we become popular, maybe the words Franz Ferdinand will make people think of the band instead of the historical figure."

Alley - Zak Starkey from Oasis - Oasis evolved from an earlier band called The Rain. Liam suggested that the band name be changed to Oasis. This change was inspired by an Inspiral Carpets tour poster that hung in the Gallagher brothers' bedroom. One of the venues the poster listed was the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon, Wiltshire.

SATURDAY NIGHT TRIVIA!

1. (3 Points)
Which artist in the current top 50 ARIA Albums chart has released the most albums altogether? (Released as in Released in Australia, EPs and Deluxe Editions, Greatest Hits etc. do not count).

2. (2 Points)
Which song in the current ARIA top 100 has its music video about someone getting a sex change?

3. (3 Points)
Name an artist that has had at least 4 songs peak at #11 in one country. (Eg. Artist X has had song A, B, C, D peak at #11 in Germany (correct), Artist Y having song A, B peak at #11 in NZ, then song C, D in Australia is incorrect). 'As a featured artist' is included.

4. (3 Points)
How many balls does One Direction play with when they are young?

5. (5 Points)
Who Am I?
-Since my debut I have amassed 7 top 10 songs in Australia, in the space of two and a half years.
-None of my charting songs have lasted more than 24 weeks on the chart.
-My best rated song has an average of 4.1 on this site.
-According to Wikipedia, I have written songs for Cassie, Lil Wayne, Diddy and Sean Kingston.

6. (4 Points)
Name a song with 18 or more English 1 star reviews on this site.

7. (5 Points)
Which song has this ARIA chart run? 50-43-21-21-18-13-5-10-7-5-6-5-6-8-15-17-18-16-9-11-16-21-25-33-40-33-36-39-41-43-41-38-37-33-38-48-50-(RE)-43

8. (3 Points)
Which song that has charted in the ARIA top 50 this year, has the most syllables in their title?

9. (5 Points)
Mumford and Sons achieved the very remarkable feat of “16, 16, 16, 16” with Little Lion Man in 2009 (The song was at #16 that week, #16 the week before, was in its 16th week on the chart with a peak of #16.) Is there a song on the ARIA Charts that has done this with a higher number? (Eg. 20, 20, 20, 20) If not, what is the song closest to achieving M&S’s achievement (on ARIA)? (I don’t know the answer to this, but the closest answer gets maximum points).

10. (3 Points)
Name a song that is about course language but doesn’t exactly have course language in it.

Memo your answers in by 10:30pm!

Apologies, one of my Who Am I clues was incorrect, give me a minute to correct.
ANSWERS!

1: Bob Dylan is the answer with 35 released albums in total!

2: Avicii - Silhouettes, I particularly enjoy Avicii's cameo

3: Great answers! My answer was Madonna, which had 4 songs in Switzerland. You guys had:

Kylie Minogue - Australia
Elvis Presley - USA
Prince - Ireland

4 - 8 Balls! 5 Zorbs in the water, one blue big spiky zorb ball right afterwards (but distinctively different), the soccer ball and a beach ball that they were playing with in the pool. If you said '4' as well, that was correct because it was 4 types of balls and I didn't work my question well.

5 - Jason Derulo was the answer!

6 - You all had different answers lol. My answer was We R Who We R but good job on finding others! Other answers included:

Sexy And I Know It
Crazy Frog
IYiYiYi

7 - Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me

8 - Most people said Taylor, WANEGBT which has 12, and Ne-Yo, Let Me Love You (Until You Learn To Love Yourself) which also has 12, but Hijinx found the real winner of:

Darren Percival : I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever) (14)

9 - I had Hotel Room Service - Pitbull with 11, but Trav found the best answer with:
Chocolate Starfish - Mountain which had 12!

Unfortunately, his first answer of I Need A Doctor with 13 is incorrect, as it achieved a peak of 12 before doing the 13s.

Hijinx had Electric Feel - MGMT with 10 which was quite close.

10 - My answer was All-4-One - I Swear. This question was intentionally ambiguous but the rest of you all had good answers.

Bloodhound Gang - Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo (Spelling up the F Word)
Kenny Chesney - Drink, Swear, Steal And Lie
Pussycat Dolls - Beep
All-4-One - I Swear

Good job Hijinx and TravD!
Q9 interested me
I found 13,13,13,13 Lily Was Here - David A. Stewart

Too late I know. I'm hopeless at trivia

I'd forgotten Q7's run. Interesting one
How did I forget Bob Dylan and Darren Percival
Good round though. I still need to get that Solo win though
Another round is up! I've been out all day, apologies for lateness.

1. (3 Points)
Which artists, of those that have been announced that they are performing at this year’s ARIAs, have released the most albums?

2. (2 Points)
Which continents will Swedish House Mafia NOT visit when they embark on their world tour?

3. (3 Points)
X Factor continues to make its presence on the Australian Charts. How many songs have entered/re-entered the ARIA Top 50 so far this year because of this series?

4. (3 Points)
Which artist has had the most ARIA wins in history? What other feat do they also hold?

5. (2 Points)
Which artist in the current ARIA singles or albums top 50 is nominated for the most ARIA awards this year?

6. (2 Points) Who said this very recently and what is this person talking about?

"To celebrate the strength and longevity that my fans, friends, and family have supported me with I wrote this song with one of my best friends that has seen me through everything. This song represents who I've been, what I've felt, and where I'm headed as not only an artist but as a 30 year old that is now smart enough to know that it's time to stop, and be proud of not only what has been accomplished but of all the people that have helped me become the woman I am today."

7. (4 Points)
I Knew You Were Trouble. will become Taylor Swift’s 7th ARIA Top 50 Chart entry this year. Who holds the record for most Top 50 entries in a year and with how many? Glee Cast will not be an acceptable answer to this question.

8. (4 Points)
Glee Cast season 4 has begun airing in the US, but is yet to show an episode in Australia. Which 2012 songs so far have been covered by the show?

9. (? Points)
Justify the change that Billboard has done with its charts in less than 100 words. (Explain why Billboard has made the change.)

ANSWERS

Question 1 - Hilltop Hoods with 6 albums

Question 2 - Australia (sadly) and South America. But yes, Antarctica counts too.

Question 3 -

Birdy - Skinny Love
The Collective - Dominio
The Collective - Footloose

How We Do
Into The Flame
Need You Now

Both Daniel and Hijinx forgot Need You Now. Hijinx forgot Skinny Love too

That makes 6, but I swear there was more. Unfortuantely don't have the time to double check.

Question 4 - Silverchair, and they also hold the most nominations too with 41.

Question 5 - 360

Question 6 - Kelly Clarkson, about her latest single "Catch My Breath" to appear on her Greatest Hits

Question 7 - Michael Jackson with 17 entries in 2009. Of course in the non-ARIA period, the Beatles obviously held the record and Glee Cast have amassed heaps since their debut. Rihanna and Karise Eden did manage 8 each.

Question 8 -

In season 4:
Call Me Maybe
Boyfriend
Dance Again
It's Time

Unfortunately Trav somehow put down 2011 songs, not 2012. He did say Call Me Maybe, so 1 point. Daniel also forgot Boyfriend.

Question 9 -

Hijinx:
The old format charts are powered by radio PDs, and the audience has no say it what makes the chart. By including sales & streaming, it shows a more accurate reflection of the nation's taste in these specific genres. It is no longer a chart of what the radio play, but a chart of the public's favourite songs from that genre. If radio refused to get behind a song despite evident popularity in other measures, this new change gives them a better chance.

TravD:
They’re meant to show most popular songs in their genres among all pertinent metrics. Billboard charts relied heavily upon demographics. Most charts were based upon the relationship between airplay and singles sales in particular markets. New songs could be tested in a market via radio, and fans could provide feedback through sales. But with the decimation of music industry’s physical sales, and the increase in digital downloads and streaming services, the songs charts had begun to reflect only what radio and labels dictated. Without the feedback loop between fans and radio, the charts didn’t reflect how people experienced music.

Daniel09:
Billboard has changed the rules of the genre charts in the sense that sales and streaming will now be included as well as already existing radio airplay data. This rule has been implemented to, according to Billboard, better reflect the current music landscape.

Trav had a terrific answer, but he didn't explain the actual change that occured. Sure it's great to explain why, but it would be helpful to know what was affected etc.

Aaaaaaahhhh, so close..

Great round, well done everyone. I was going to explain the actual changes (would've been my opening sentence), but I was afraid I would go over my 100 word limitation , and I focussed too much on what was in the brackets.

I should also start to watch more Glee

I was thinking of joining this but gave up on the third question...A little research did give me the right answers for the questions I did answer.
I had no idea Billboard had made those changes and with further reading I'm hoping that this is the start of Billboard scrapping airplay from the Hot 100.
Hello Everyone! Another round of trivia is up! Aplogies it couldn't come up earlier.

1. (3 Points) *
Swedish House Mafia is very likely to enter the top 10 this week on the ARIA chart. What was the last song by a Swedish artist to enter our top 10 (singles or albums)?

2. (3 Points) *
Similarly, Icelandic septuplet, Of Monsters & Men, is enjoying top 50 success in Australia. Is this the first time an Icelandic artist has charted in Australia? If no, what was the song/album/artist that last did so?

3. (3 Points)
The phrase “Return of the Queen” is best associated with which artist at the moment?

4. (4 Points)
Name 2 international bands that are currently touring at the moment. Name the city they are performing in tonight, or if they’re not performing, the date and time of the last performance (must be in the last 3 days).

5. (5 Points)
P!nk is once again enjoying very strong success in Australia, with all her shows already sold out ages ago and more shows in the process of being added. How many shows is she performing in each Capital City of Australia?

6. (5 Points)
Who am I?
-My mother was a concert pianist.
-My stage name was a nickname from my parents.

9. (3 Points)
Which song had this chart run? (excluding it’s re-entry run)
12-10-8-6-3-2-2-1-1-2-2-1-3-3-3-3-3-5-6-7-12-15-16-19-19-22-21-22-29-36-31-36-37-39-43-42-49

10. (5 Points)
Name a song that charted in the ARIA top 100 this year that is most likely in 2/4 or 2/2 time rather than 4/4 time.

Question 10 is the hardest question I've ever asked and I personally do not expect anyone to get it, so good job if you get it.

*I do not know this answer, so the closest answer wins

Good luck! All answers in by 10:30pm please.

Thank you to ChartGuru, Alley1989, Daniel09, Hijinx and Irelander for playing. Answers will be up tomorrow!
ANSWERS

Question 1 - The last Swedish act to enter our top 10 (except for SHM today)? ABBA still remains on top! Euphoria did not hit our top 10.

Answers we got:

Eric PrydzCall On Me2004Single
OpethWatershed2008 JuneAlbum
LoreenEuphoria2012Single
ABBAGold2008 AugustAlbum

Question 2 - Last Icelandic Act to chart in Australia. Doesn't need to be top 10!!!

Answers we got:

ABBAGoldWTFAlbum
BjorkVespertine2001 JulyAlbum
Sigur RiosValtari2012 JuneAlbum

Question 3 - Lil' Kim, the Real Queen is back! lolnotreally. She hasn't proven herself in my opinion. "Return of the Queen" was the name of her 2012 tour, which had little coverage and was hardly a tour.

Question 4 - Summer is fast approaching and that means it is time for festivals and concerts! Lots of artists use the seasonal difference as an opportunity to perform here. Already in 3 days we have a whole host of different artists performing around the country:

Matchbox TwentyCanberraThursday
Hot Chelle RaeMelbourneFriday
Mumford and SonsCanberraFriday
Mumford & SonsMelbourneFriday
The Black KeysBrisbaneFriday
Matchbox TwentyBrisbaneSaturday
The TrewsSydneySaturday

Icehouse and Billy Bragg sadly are not an International Bands!!

Question 5 - Hijinx interestingly pointed out that P!nk's tour in Australia is longer than both her American and European tours.

Perth - 4 Concerts
Adelaide - 4
Brisbane - 4
Sydney - 8
Melbourne - 12!

Another 6 concert dates have just been added, with an addition 2 being added to Brisbane, Sydney AND Melbourne! Wow! Those that said either totals are correct.

Question 6 - Birdy! Hopefully it wasn't too easy.

Question 7 - Lots of ambiguity as so many artists are featuring others! There will be two acceptable numbers, those that have counted with features, and those that didn't.

* - May/may not be counted due to presence of a featured artist.

PSY - Gangnam Style
Justin Bieber - As Long As You Love Me (*)
Justin Bieber - Beauty and a Beat (*)
Alex Clare - Too Close
Ellie Goulding - Lights
Ellie Goulding - Anything Could Happen
Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe
Gotye feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know
David Guetta feat. Sia - Titanium
David Guetta feat. Lil Wayne - Chris Brown & Lil Wayne (*)
One Direction - Live While We're Young
Mumford and Sons - I Will Wait
Mumford and Sons - Babel
Mumford and Sons - Whispers In The Dark
Ed Sheeran - The A Team
Adele - Skyfall
Muse - Madness
Cher Lloyd - Want U Back
Swedish House Martin feat. John Martin - Don't You Worry Child
Calvin Harris feat. Florence Welch - Sweet Nothing
The Script feat. will.i.am - Hall of Fame (*)

Those that said 21 or 17 are correct! Chartguru, you said 18, but Future is American.

Question 8 - 18 is the answer! Hijinx missed two, while Irelander said the 18 but also said Kimbra, Jess Mauboy, Justice Crew, Matt Corby and Ricki-Lee, all who have NOT Hit the top 3 album chart. You could also include Jess Mauboy who hit #1 with The Sapphires, but it looks like no one considered that.

Hilltop Hoods
Missy Higgins

Question 9 - Flo Rida - Low - What a run for a debut!

Question 10 - Haha! Sorry to ask this question but this thought was mulling in my head for the past week.

2/4 time is best associated with Marches! (A quick Wikipedia search would have told you that). So the best answer is Evermore - Follow The Sun. Some Nights kinda matches but doesn't, but those that said it will get some points.

1.
Oldest Song
Dan09Vess Ossman – Yankee Doodle18945
HijinxJohann Pachelbel – Canon In D*19193
Zac333Bing Crosby - Ghost Of A Chance 19332

*Classical music is apparently disallowed on the database, but this piece was technically first published in 1919.

2.
The band was ‘CHEAP TRICK’. Dan and Jinx had this. Zac chose QUEEN. Technically Queen’s biggest hits were mid-late 70’s, and early 80’s, and only Foo Fighters were influenced by Queen, not the other two bands.

3.
2011 – Goodbye Lullaby, Glee Volume 5, Angles, Femme Fatale, The Life Of Riley, Wasting Light (the 1st week)

2008 – In Ghost Colours, Pretty. Odd, Watershed, Apocalypso, Rattlin' Bones, Hard Candy

2006 – Back To Basics, Carnival, Modern Times, Revelations, FutureSex / LoveSounds, Tah Dah, I’m Not Dead

Daniel chose:
-The 2011 list

-21, The Story So Far, The Temper Trap, Born and Raised, The Ol' Razzle Dazzle (2)

-The Sapphires, Birdy, North, Chasing Ghosts, The Truth About Love (1)

I’m only giving 2 and 1 point(s) respectively to the last two because the question asked for consecutive weeks, and The Sapphires spent 3 weeks at #1. The first one is technically correct, but 21 spent more weeks prior to that one week. I should've been more clearer as I did not say consecutive debuts.

4.
It was ‘DEBORAH COX’.

5.
Sorry if this question was confusing at first.
The highest week was 10/02/13, with an average of 3.965
The lowest week was in fact this week 24/03/13, an average of 3.549

Here are the averages chronologically:
3.703, 3.703, 3.826, 3.657, 3.756, 3.965, 3.623, 3.746, 3.559, 3.669, 3.713, 3.549

6.
There were actually two artists here, ‘SHANNON NOLL’.
Zac chose NATALIE BASSINGTHWAIGHTE, which is sort of true, but as a solo artist, she has not been nominated for an ARIA – only as part of ROGUE TRADERS.

7.
Some great answers here:
Ed Kowalczyk - Grace, Two Door Cinema Club - Sun, Swedish House Mafia - Antidote, Django Django - Default, D At Sea – Unconscious, Kanye West - Power, Boy & Bear - Milk & Sticks, The Only - Looking Back. Some others I found were Amity Affliction – Chasing Ghosts, and Darren Percival – Jealous Guy.

You can find more here: http://australian-charts.com/forum.asp?todo=viewthread&id=35111

8.
46-18: Cheers (Drink To That) - Rihanna
34-6: Where Them Girls At - David Guetta featuring Nicki Minaj & Flo Rida
35-7: The Last Day On Earth - Kate Miller-Heidke
42-14: James Blunt - Stay the Night
49-21: James Morrison - I Won't Let You Go
76-48: Sean Paul - Got 2 Luv U

There was also:
49-21: Bananarama – I Want You Back
47-19: Prince & The New Power Generation – Cream

9.
The answer was ‘TAYLOR DAYNE - CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOUR LOVE BABE'.

10.
I guess I should’ve been more precise in my definition of a ‘hit’. But anyway, we had some great answers here!

Dan:
Birdy - Skinny Love (X Factor), Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars (Grey's Anatomy), The Fray - How to Save a Life (Grey's Anatomy), The Rembrandts - I'll Be There for You (Friends), Fun. - We Are Young (Glee)

Hijinx:
Sia - I Go To Sleep (Packed To The Rafters), The Rembrandts - I'll Be There For You (Friends), Bruno Mars - Marry You (Glee), The Black Eyed Peas - Showdown (So You Think You Can Dance), S.mouse - Slap My Elbow (Angry Boys)

Zac:
Best Night - Justice Crew (My Kitchen Rules), I'm Yours - Jason Mraz (Packed To The Rafters), People Help The People (Neighbours), Rock & Roll - Eric Hutchisnon (Packed To The Rafters)

I Go To Sleep, Showdown and Slap My Elbow did enter, but were not really 'hits'. Only a few marks deducted. Marry You was a difficult one, because it was a hit the second time around, nearly six or so months later. I will give full points though.

I am going to host a Saturday Night Trivia game tonight starting at 7:30pm AEST. There will be ten questions to solve. Hope you can all participate
Here it is:

Question 1:

What song am I?

I was a top twenty hit in the late 1990s and was re-released four years later. The singer on this song went on to have a top ten hit five years after this song.

Question 2:

Producer, singer & songwriter Calvin Harris has recently scored his sixth ARIA top ten single with I Need Your Love. Name six other artists who have had the same amount of top ten hits. When giving me your answers please list the songs that were top ten hits for that artist. The artist has to have exactly seven top ten hits. Being featured on a song counts as well

Question 3:

Who am I?

I am a female singer who's music is in the dance genre. I have a solo career but have also provided vocals for many UK dance artists. I have only had one top fifty chart entry where I provided vocals but was not credited as a featured artist.

Question 4:

Name eleven songs which have peaked at #11.

Question 5:

Gangnam Style by Psy became a number one smash spending six weeks at the top. Name ten other foreign language songs which have gone top fifty.

Question 6:

Recently we have seen Swedish artists Swedish House Mafia and Icona Pop have chart success with the songs Don't You Worry Child and I Love It respectively. Icelandic group Of Monsters Of Men also have scored two top fifty hits with Little Talks and Mountain Sound. Name twelve Scandinavian top fifty hits. Scandinavian includes Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Icelandic and Finnish artists. You must include at least two songs for each of those nationalities. When giving me your answers please include the nationality of the artists as well.

Question 7:

Holdin On by Flume may have only peaked at #17 back in March but it has managed to stay in the top fifty for seventeen weeks so far. Name eight songs which did not peak in the top ten but spent more than twenty weeks in the Top fifty.

Question 8:

Name fifteen Eurodance songs which made the top fifty. Overall you must include at least eight different nationalities. When giving me your answers please include the nationality of the artists as well.

Question 9:

Who am I?

I am a Latin American artist who had a top five hit in early 2012 and also had a single peak in the top one hundred towards the end of the year.

Question 10:

What is the most reviewed song on the database? I don't have an answer but the answer with the most reviews will get the most points

All answers must be memoed to me before 10:30 pm AEST. If you have any questions feel free to ask. All questions referring to charts are for Australia only

Q8 3 for each song correct
Q9 5
Q10 10 for song with most reviews, 8 for song with next most reviews etc.
Here are the answers

Question 1:

Now this question was one of the difficult ones. Only Hijinx had a guess at this one and he was right. Hijinx guessed Addicted To Bass by Josh Abrahams & Amiel Daemion which was released in 1998 and peaked at #15. The song was re-released under the name Puretone in 2002 which peaked at #50 here and managed to make it to #2 on the UK Charts. Amiel Daemion later to be known as Amiel hit the top ten five years later with Lovesong peaking at #6.

Question 3:

This question was probably the most difficult of them all. Hijinx was the only one who guessed but did not get it right. He said Noonie Bao who provides vocals for I Could Be The One. It was a good guess but unfortunately I can't find out enough about her to see if she has collaborated with any UK artists. As far as I know she has only collaborated with Avicii and Nicky Romero who are Swedish and Dutch respectively. The answer was Ayah Marar who provides vocals on Calvin Harris's 2010 track Flashback. The female parts of this song are provided by Ayah but she is not credited as a featured artist. Ayah is a Jordanian based in the UK and has collaborated with many UK artists. They include Calvin Harris, DJ Fresh & Camo & Krooked. I will give Hijinx 3 points for the good guess which could technically be right if I could find out enough info on Noonie Bao.
