For all of the huge debuts that The Voice racked up last week, their presence in the Top 10 has been reduced to one song within the entire ten, and those debuts have all either dropped out of the Top 100 or into the 40 to 60 region of the chart, with a total of 22 out of the 25 Top 100 departing songs this week attributed to The Voice TV show; I call them ratings-dropouts (only charted during the shows broadcast/ratings period).
But more about that later, as Flo Rida reclaims the No.1 spot for an eighth week at the top with his track “Whistle”, now becoming the equal third longest running number one of the decade, tied with “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye and Kimbra. “Whistle” also becomes the first song this year to climb back to the top spot, the last song to do so was “Sexy and I Know it” back in December 2011 and January 2012.
With the evacuation of the Top 10 of The Voice songs apart from Karise’s official single “You Won’t Let Me” holding at No.5, it’s the rest of the Top 10 that moves around that song. “Don’t Wake Me Up” for Chris Brown is up seven places to a new peak of No.2, becoming his third highest charting single, as he has appeared on two No.1 tracks (“Run it! – February 2006 and “No Air” – June 2008). “Payphone” for Maroon 5 and Wiz Khalifa is back up four places to No.3, its fifth appearance at this position, having also spent two weeks at No.2.
Katy Perry scores her eleventh Top 10 single in Australia, as her latest “Wide Awake” jumps back up sixteen places to a new peak of No.4. She was also in the country at the end of this past week, so her sales could continue to keep her in the Top 10 longer, plus her ‘Part of Me 3D’ films is out this coming week.
ARIA released a mid-year chart this week, and at No.1 for the year so far is the No.6 track this week “Call Me Maybe” for Carly Rae Jepsen, which is back up four places from last week. And Will.i.am has appeared on four Top 10 singles in the past as a guest vocalist, the biggest of which was the Usher song “OMG” (No.1 – May 2010), but this week he scores his first solo Top 10 entry, as “This is Love” jumps up eleven places to No.7, plus its also Eva Simons’ biggest hit too, having previously been as high as No.17 with Afrojack on “Take Over Control” (peaked in January & February 2011).
“The Fighter” (HP-7) for the Gym Class Heroes and Ryan Tedder returns at No.8 for a third week inside the top ten, and reclaiming their Top 10 peak positions from two weeks ago are Rita Ora and “How We Do (Party)” at No.9 and “Pound the Alarm” for Nicki Minaj at No.10.
NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: “Feel the Love” for Rudimental feat John Newman jumps up thirty places to No.12, but up forty-three spots to No.13 are fun. with the title track from their album “Some Nights”. Jason DeRulo is up sixteen places to No.14 with his latest “Undefeated”, and Coldplay and Rihanna surpass their previous peak of No.17 by jumping up seven places from last week to No.16 this week with “Princess of China”. Also climbing back into the Top 20 is “Starships” for Nicki Minaj (22 to 15) and “Turn All the Lights On” for T-Pain and Ne-Yo (32 to 17), whilst US pop duo Karmin jump up thirteen places to No.20 with their debut song “Broken Hearted”.
“I’m All Yours” for Jay Sean and Pitbull jumps back up eight places to No.21, and Usher’s “Scream” is being heard at No.23 this week, back up twelve positions on last week. “On Top” for Johnny Ruffo climbs two places from last weeks debut of No.28, to No.26 this week, and Matt Corby reclaims eleven places from last week to land at No.27 with his “Into the Flames” EP, the biggest selling Australian performance in the mid-year tally so far, it’s sitting at No.6.
“Earthquake” for Labrinth is back up twelve places to No.28, “Boyfriend” for Justin Bieber returns to the Top 50, up twenty-five spots to No.29. At No.30 we see “Child” for 360 back up eleven places and “Do it Like That” for Ricki-Lee rises back up fourteen places to No.31. “Dance Again” for Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull also returns to the Top 50, back up twenty-five places to No.32, and new peaks of No.35 and No.36 are for The Black Keys with “Gold on the Ceiling” and Matchbox 20’s new track “She’s So Mean” respectively.
B.o.B returns to the Top 50 and is back up fourteen spots to No.39 with “So Good”, plus his duet with Taylor Swift entitled “Both of Us” returns to the Top 100 at No.50. Also returning the T100 are Linkin Park with “Burn it Down” at No.41 which also scores a new peak in the process. “Wild Ones” for Flo Rida jumps back up sixteen places to No.42, and “Somebody That I Used to Know” for Gotye reclaims twenty-four places to land back at No.43 this week. Train claim the last new peak of the week as their new track “50 Ways to Say Goodbye” is up seventeen places to No.44, with their previous hit “Drive By” jumping back eleven places to No.33. We also see a return to the Top 50 of both One Directions Top 10 hits “What Makes You Beautiful” (HP-7, TW-59 to 46) and “One Thing” (HP-3, TW-55 to 49).
THE VOICE: With the show finishing it’s ten week run on TV, and a winner crowned, the tracks that made such a big splash last week make for the exit, as of the 25 songs that leave the Top 100 this week, 22 of those are by The Voice artists/judges/contestants.
Last weeks No.1 debut of “Stay with Me Baby” drops to No.54 this week, in turn becoming the biggest drop from the No.1 position EVER, so at least Karise is still making chart feats in her second week of charting. Her two week running at No.2 rendition of “Hallelujah” only drops thirty-six places to No.38 this week, but her No.3 debut of “I Was Your Girl” departs the entire Top 100. This has happened only once before in ARIA history, and that song too reached No.3, “Way of the World” by Adelaide (at the time) teenager Francesca which debuted at No.3 and was gone from that position the following week.
But also dropping out of the Top 10 is Sarah De Bono’s “Beautiful” which drops thirty-three places to No.37 to be one of only FIVE singles for The Voice contestants within the Top 100, we also have Darren Percival at No.78 (from 37) with “I Believe”. Darren also has a Top 10 dropout this week, with his No.8 debut from last week “Damage Down” falling out of the Top 100, in total eleven songs fall out of the entire Top 50 from last week, and as I said at the top of the page, they can now be called rating-dropouts.
Lower 50: With Big Brother coming soon to Channel 9, their use of LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” in their promo ads has helped the longest running No.1 of the decade to reclaim thirty-two places this week and send the song back up to No.51. Their other No.1 “Sexy and I Know it” jumps back up thirty places to No.64. With Katy Perry in the country for a visit for her film, her “Part of Me” title track is back up twenty-six places to No.52, and Reece Mastin is back up twenty-seven places to No.53 with “Shut Up & Kiss Me”.
“Primadonna” for Marina & The Diamonds is up twenty-six places to a new peak of No.55, as too are Major Lazer with “Get Free” to No.56. “Breath of Life” for Florence + the Machine returns at No.57, also a new peak, and two debuts from last week that also climb are “Call My Name” for Cheryl (Cole) (92 to 59) and “My Kind of Love” for Emeli Sande (84 to 60). Azealia Banks jumps twenty-one places to No.67 with her “1991” EP, and up fifteen to No.70 is Meilo and “Stuck on You”. And of the twenty re-entries to the Top 100 this week, scoring new peaks are “Rack City” for Tyga at No.80 and “Everybody’s Waiting” by Missy Higgins at No.86.
Lupe Fiasco is due to release his fourth album in September entitled “Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Part 1”, and the first taste from that album is “Around the Way (Freedom Ain’t Free)” which is the highest new entry of the week coming in at No.58.
Kelly Clarkson debuts at No.72 with the third single from her latest album “Stronger” (TW-33) entitled “Dark Side”, with the previous two singles being “Mr. Know it All” (HP-1, Oct 2011) and “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” (HP-18, Jan 2012). Also scoring a new single from a current album is The Temper Trap who debut at No.81 with “Trembling Hands”, with their self-titled former No.1 album sitting at No.20 this week.
Knife Party debut at No.82 with the track “Centipede” from the “Rage Valley” EP (HP-95) which drops out of the Top 100 this week, and Maroon 5 debut at No.89 with a new track their Top 10 debuting album “Overexposed” (TW-4) called “One More Night”.
Karise Eden drops from the No.1 spot on the singles chart, but claims the new No.1 album in the country with instantly platinum certified “My Journey”, which is also the sixth consecutive No.1 debut in the past seven weeks. The last time we saw six consecutive No.1 debuts was between mid-March and late April of 2010 with Avril Lavigne, Glee Volume 5, The Strokes, Britney Spears, Drapht and The Foo Fighters the six acts to enter first week at the top of the ARIA Albums chart.
“My Journey” is the 310th No.1 debut in Australian Albums chart history (1965 to 2012) and the 649th No.1 album during that same period, whilst it’s the 508th ARIA No.1 album (1983 to 2012). It also becomes only the second album with ‘Journey’ in its title, the previous being Damien Leith’s “The Winner’s Journey” from December 2006. And as Karise is a local reality shows winner/contestant, she becomes the ninth such act to top the charts here (thirteen if you want to include overseas winners like Paul Potts, Leona Lewis or Susan Boyle twice).
Karise Eden’s album becomes the 152nd Australian performed album to reach No.1, and she becomes the 79th Australian Performer to hit the top spot. She is also the 93rd solo female act to hit No.1, and Karise is the eleventh Australian solo female act to hit the top of the Aussie Albums chart (165 to 2012). Karise is only the second solo Aussie female act this decade to make it to No.1, the last being Missy Higgins four weeks ago, and Karise is the first new solo female singer to hit No.1 here since Natalie Bassingthwaighte did so with “1000 Stars” back in March 2009.
There is also a No.2 debut this week, the fifth album for Linkin Park entitled “Living Things”, which becomes the bands fifth top two album (all five studio albums have reached No.1 or No.2) and its their sixth Top 10 entry overall. This album’s lead single “Burn it Down” returns to the Top 100 this week at No.41, and the bands Australian chart discography is listed below…

LIVING THINGS
The third Top 5 debut of the week comes in the form of Maroon 5’s fourth album entitled “Overexposed” which debuts at No.4. This album features the former No.2 and current No.3 single “Payphone”, plus a bonus track of the ten week running No.2 single “Moves Like Jagger”, plus the new single “One More Night” which debuts at No.89 this week. This is their fourth Top 10 album, with “Songs About Jane” hitting No.1 for a week in October of 2004, and then they made it to No.5 in June 2007 with “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long”. 2010’s “Hands All Over” debuted and peaked at No.7 in October of that year, and they have also graced our charts with two live albums; “1.22.03 Acoustic Live EP” (HP-61, November 2004) and “Live – Friday the 13th” (HP-37, October 2005).
Keith Urban’s “The Story So Far” only drops one place this week, down to No.3, but last weeks No.1 debut of “Believe” for Justin Bieber drops four places to No.5 this week. One Direction has the No.6 position this week with their “Up All Night” album, but down four spots to No.7 is Missy Higgins with her former No.1 “The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle”.
The “Rock of Ages” soundtrack blasted into the Top 5 last week, but drops from No.4 to No.9 this week, with late July tourist Ed Sheeran’s “+” dropping four places to No.10. The final Top 10 entry of the week is the ninth studio album for The Smashing Pumpkins, which debuts at No.8 entitled “Oceania”, giving them their seventh Top 10 entry. Their entire Australian chart discography is also listed below…

Adele’s “21” drops out of the Top 10 for the first time since April 2011, when it spent two weeks out of the Top 10 at No.11 and No.12 before it spent the next sixty-five weeks inside the upper ten on the Albums chart. So this week it drops to No.11 accumulating 72 weeks inside the Top 10, making it the second longest Top 10 for the ARIA Charts (1983 to 2012) behind Shania Twain’s “Come on Over” which racked up 78 weeks in the Top 10. In the 1965 to 2012 period of Top 10 runs, it sits at sixth, and the longest Top 10 albums of all time are…
1. “Sound of Music” - Soundtrack (1965) just under 200 weeks 2. “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” – The Beatles (1967/87) – 98 weeks 3. “Going Places” – Herb Alpert (1966) 95 weeks 4. “Hot August Night” – Neil Diamond (1972) 91 weeks 5. “Come on Over” – Shania Twain (1997) 78 weeks 6. “21” – Adele (2010) 72 weeks 7. “I’m Not Dead” – P!nk (2006) – 70 weeks 8. “Thriller” – Michael Jackson (1983/2009) – 63 weeks 9. “Rumours” – Fleetwood Mac (1977/2012) – 62 weeks 10. “Brothers in Arms” – Dire Straits (1986) – 61 weeks
{this is the first time this list has ever been published for the entire Australian Album Charts Top 10’s}
NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Helped by a return to No.10 for “Pound the Alarm”, Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday- Roman Reloaded” jumps back up twenty-two places to No.14, plus the explicit edition of the album comes out this week. With promo visits at the moment, two female singers each climb up twenty-three places apiece, with Katy Perry’s album “Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection” back up to No.25, and Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away” is back up to No.30. James Morrison scores the only new peak within the Top 100 this week, as his “The Awakening” album jumps up nine places to No.32. Ahead of their upcoming tour, fun. jump up twenty places to No.46 with their “Some Nights” album, after a big return last week at No.12, Paul Simon’s repackaged “Graceland” album drops to No.36 this week.
The fourth studio album for New York native Fiona Apple entitled “The Idler Wheel is Wiser than the Drive of the Screw and Whipping Cords will Serve you More than Ropes will Ever Do”, more simply known as “The Idler Wheel…”, which by debuting at No.23 becomes her highest charting album in Australia, having previously charted with three albums; “Tidal” (HP-43, peaked March 1998), “When the Pawn…” (HP-54, peaked Feb 2000) and “Extraordinary Machine” (HP-53, peaked November 2005).
The adoptable pet’s game Moshi Monsters scores a No.31 debut this week with an album of songs entitled “Musix Rox!”, and debuting at No.34 is “Welcome to the Fishbowl” for country singer Kenny Chesney. This is his thirteenth studio album, and now his second to chart here, having previously made it to No.73 in October of 2010 with his twelfth album “Hemmingway’s Whiskey”.
French heavy-metal band Gojira debut at No.47 with their fifth album entitled “L’Enfant Sauvage”, which is their first to chart in Australia. And also making her first chart entry here is UK singer Paloma Faith with her second album “Fall to Grace”, which comes in at No.49. Her first album “Do You Want Truth or Something Beautiful? (2009) failed to make our Top 100.
Lower 50: Not much movement in the lower half of the chart this week, but returning albums include “Reece Mastin” at No.76, Elton John’s “Rocket Man: The Definitive Hits” at No.92 and “Nothing But the Beat” for David Guetta at No.97. The biggest dropout of the week was last weeks No.23 return of “Get Closer” for Keith Urban, which disappears from the Top 100 this week.
Melbourne based five-piece King Cannons (electronic soul-and-roll) enter at No.56 with their debut album “The Brightest Light”. L.A. melodic metal-core band The Ghost Inside debut at No.63 with their third album entitled “Get What You Give”, their first to chart here, and the final new entry of the week goes to the soundtrack to the new Pixar film “Brave”, which debuts at No.95.

The official biggest drop from #01. Every exit is from The Voice. More evidence that they should have never charted... I said last week that these were the worst two weeks in Australian music charting history. I stand by this & f u if you think that comments not justified also f u if you have a problem with me whinging & f u if you think otherwise. At the moment we don't have a music singles chart we have a cash cow driven by television that wants to change every single thing into a $. This will be remembered as the lowest point sometime in the future you will see.
That sounds like it must be some sort of sales logging error, which has happened a few times on the album charts of late, because I have to say that this surely doesn't work out
But wow, even more re-entries than I expected, and PRA is not one of them
no it's more the fact that The Voice has been off television for a week, so no one remembers back to a few weeks ago and has dropped all of the acts, bar one; Karise Eden the winner. So the charts have a bounce back for one week, it makes it interesting regardless.
The sales are correct... there are various other outlets to source music that contribute to the chart. iTunes is The Voice's main outlet to shift units. What is the point of The Voice? The prize money? Karise Eden, Darren Percival, Racheal Leahcar & Sarah De Bono all have the same album! There all on the same label. This is only one week after, i can only imagine how many more will be signed to release more forgettable nonsense. The X Factor is about to start too. Last series has 5 signed, all the material has to be released to co-incide with it's television return. Then there Australia's Got Talent. Justice Crew were a dance crew... now they are releasing material oh they can all sing? Timomatic wasn't he from so you think you can dance? He is a singer now... Jack Vidgen. I guess the guy from CDB never had enough talent when he re-made Let's Groove in 1995 & make it to #02 on the ARIA charts & have the eighth biggest selling single of the year. Please don't forget the Idol franchise globally which is coming upto a decade of pollution. It seems popstars is the only format to die down...
Well, I always like seeing chart history be made, and a drop like that from #1 is certainly chart history so the voice provided some interest for the chart at least
Does anyone know if sales data of singles that ends of compiling the year end chart only includes its top 100 chart run or does it also include sales once the single has left the top 100?
From memory 2010 end of year data was based on a single being in the top 100 and its sales only from that.
Just wondering if sales from the songs that left the weekly top 100 last week will have their sales included on the year end chart?
An observation I made with the midyear list is that Super Bass overtook When We Stand Together in the last month despite neither appearing in the top 100 over the last month, and I assume the EOY is built on this, so perhaps the cutoff is top 150/200/500/everything
Just WOW! to the fall of #1. I honestly expected it to last one more week in the Top 50. I was actually beginning to doubt it wouldn't break the record held by My Heart Will Go On for biggest drop from #1. That's just totally crazy. I thought at least my purchase of the song would have helped it stay in the Top 50. LOL
And I'm with wlv, I wonder how the media will spin it. I imagine they'll convenietley ignore it and talk about the album debuting instead.
Sure do, been collecting #1s since 1992. Guess you could call it a hobby, I was very disappointed when physical singles stopped being mass produced. Last edited:
It's actually a common occurence once the singles dry up Tennis, and it doesn't help that the bottom 50 albums are on average probably less than 10 sales apart.
Wow to the debut for Brave's soundtrack. Off the top of my head I think this might be the first time a soundtrack to a Pixar film has charted in Australia. And wonderful to see all the voted songs tumble spectacularly leaving only those songs people actually want to listen to survive.
I shall admit that I am selfishly finding all The Voice drop outs amusing. Mainly cause it means my reality chart can go back to the regular 40 entries as opposed to the 61 entries in ballooned to last week.
I know times change and I need to let go and blah blah fill in whatever you want blah blah blah but it still irks me that a song can peak at #13 and be double platinum AND a song that peaks at #24 is triple platinum. ANyways, continue with the countdown while I sit in the corner crocheting and taking my anti-arthitis pills.

If you ignore the 32 bulleting singles and the 12 re-entries and the eerie lack of Karaoke Shit™, this week's Top 50 looks almost normal. You just have to visualise that the chart contains only song titles, artists, accreditations and label info (Who needs them fancy-arse numbers anyway? They are sooo overrated y'all!;). *sweet smile*
It looks like the wackiness of the charts this last fortnight has induced another record-breaking "effort". Flo Rida's "Whistle" is the first #1 single in ARIA history to drop out of the Top 5 before returning to the apex (it was #6 last week). Is that an all-time record as well?
By the way, I believe the next closest (at least in the ARIA era) is Kylie Minogue's "On a Night Like This" which dropped as low as #5 before returning to the top.
Ta Jinxie. Nice work there. I wonder if there's any others before the ARIA era...
As for predating ARIA it actually kinda does and it kinda doesn't depending on if you include the mid-1983 to mid-1988 AMR data as ARIA data since ARIA licensed that data for that period before they started compiling their charts in-house from mid-1988 onwards. heh
Heh. It also depends on exactly when during 1983 that the licensing agreement began because "Australiana" debuted in the AMR Top 100 in late July of 1983. All such fascinations I know. Personally, I believe the ARIA era is from mid-1988 onwards.
I'm sure I remember hearing that Australiana sold so fast so unexpectedly that they actually ran low on stock, causing that temporary drop from #1. Probably the same reason why Gangsta's Paradise had its unusual chart run start of 5-16-1-1...
Actually, that does ring a bell. Thanks for that Dave. It seems to be a highly unusual kind of chart behaviour so in most cases it's probably due to unusual circumstances. Maybe something similar happened to Kylie too.
That's exactly what happened to Gangsta's Paradise, I had a friend working in Brash's at the time saying they couldn't get stock of it when everybody was asking for it after seeing the Dangerous Minds movie.
I remember hearing that Australiana dropped because of censorship or something along those lines where people were boycotting the track, some radio stations even refused to play it. Bulion might be able to shed some light on this.
I'm sure Karise will climb back up the charts sooner rather than later, I mean surely it must be a sales glitch or stock issue Last edited:

The ARIA charts began in April 1983, and "Australiana" by Austen Tayshus started charting in July 1983.
It fell from No.1 due to Victoria, where it was deemed an offensive recording and taken off the shelves for sales. So for two weeks it was not available (all due to an F bomb on the B-Side), and when it did go back on sale that is when it went back to the top of the charts.

I've noticed KARISE EDEN "You Won't Let Me" and ONE DIRECTION "More Than This" CD singles now available in JB HiFi Stores.
Bring back the CD single...
Others available: Guy Sebastian "GOLD" CD EP and Matt Corby "Into the Flame" EP (CD).
I have collected every CD single that charted since 1988. I miss buying them.... I know I can get some via the internet from Germany and Holland but I'd much rather support the Australian music pressing plants...
