Quite a few of us have been playing a free music trivia Facebook game called Song Pop, where you have head-to-head battles with other people to guess 5 songs correctly from 10 second audio samples. It's a lot of fun but be warned, it's rather addictive! hehe

I figured this thread would be a good place for people to find play buddies and share tips/tactics, high scores, achievements, screenshots of epic, funny, fail, etc. battles and anything else related to the game.

I gave it a go on Sunday night, and got completely addicted. I wanted to get all the Playlists/Genres I wanted and stuff like that, except after getting the "Movie Soundtracks" playlist I just got really bored, and discovered the other genres weren't really worth getting coins for. I'm now totally sick of it after less than 48 hours lol

I had my first tied game yesterday. Not only did Beanster and I tie scores but we also tied with all 5 of our song guessing times. Amazing! Too bad I got the win because I played first (it's an advantage to play second you see).

Conversely, I had a pretty fail game against bulion today. We both only got 1 song correct. I don't think either of us even knew the other 4. The "Electronic" playlist is crazy hard! Our correct answer wasn't even an electronic song. I beat him by 0.3s to take the win. haha

Such a great game, and actually one of the first games I'm playing of Facebook

I've had some great competitions with other members (e.g. Hijinx, alley, anton, beans, chris, lifter), and it is a fun game.

Not as good as hijinx's best score, but still decent - 22207

YAY! I've been gunning for the Speedster III and Highscore III achievements for a week now usually on the Today's Hits playlist and I've finally got them. Totally blown my old high score of roughly 21800 out of the water with 22638. My mum would be so proud! Sorry to do that to ya Gav. ;P

Urrgh the Movie Soundtrack playlist is the worst. I downloaded it today and majorly regretted it. I think I got nearly every achievement this week except for the power-ups, so I'm feeling pretty happy!!

No waiii. I like it. When somebody trolls you with a 'special interest' playlist like Christian Gospel (I'm looking at you Antlers) you can quickly copy their answers for the first 4 songs then click anything for the 5th song as fast as humanly possible and then you at least have a 1 in 4 chance of winning the game, instead of a 0.01% chance. heh

I think there's no fun in it. When you can beat someone who is obviously more knowledgeable by playing on mute, it spoils any fun or trivial competition. And I can beat anton on that topic without copying him sometimes If that's the case, just pick your own esoteric topic back I think.

Most of us don't have an esoteric topic though. The closest most of us get to the same kind of effect in the game is by using the rap or country playlists where hatred for those genres is common enough.

You may find it interesting and fun but most people don't. Esoteric playlists are usually only enjoyable for people that share such niche interests. Everyone else just groans when they get hit with such a playlist. You are a strange beast Jinxie. ;P

They have now added an option in Account Settings to toggle on/off your opponent's guesses. That will satisfy the players who find their opponent's guesses an unwelcome distraction but, of course, it won't satisfy the players who feel that their opponent is cheating when they copy their answers. heh

Mind you, I haven't played Song Pop since the new setting was implemented, so it's always possible that you will only to able to see your opponent's guesses if *both* players have the option turned on.

i got bored of it quickly but still play it here and there when a friend chalenges me

i dont loose many, its addictive yes, punk and metal playlist is bloody hard as it, i got more used to electronic play list now and use it to beat people who have beat me on the more traditional lists e.g. 90s, 2000s, 80s, classic rock etc...

some of the playlists scare me..

I had the unfortunate experience of losing to someone scoring 23800 yesterday. One song was guessed in 0.0 seconds which doesn't even make sense.

On another note, I lost the following game without even having a chance to play, however, my wins went up by two. Seems like the bugs are starting to creep in, but hopefully they won't be the same as DrawSomething's fiasco.

A "Crooners" playlist has been added to Song Pop for all countries and a "Decada de 80" playlist for Brazil has also been added. Mexico now has a reasonably more fleshed-out list. I forgot to edit the list previously to show that most of the playlists were not in the Mexican set. Whoopsie daisy.

The scoring system has an increasing multiplier for every correct guess in a row. Here's the scoring formula...

Individual song score = (11 - Time) * 100 * (11 - Time) ^ ((Streak - 1) / 4)

You could be onto something there wlv, i just looked up the movie on Wikipedia and I did get a song that ended up being performed by Barden Bellas who are on the soundtrack. Crazy thing is the other 4 songs don't seem to be on the soundtrack.
