Long time reader, first time poster. Anyway, I've been a chart nut for about 10 years, and thought it was about time I start chronicling my favourite songs each week. If none of you reads them, fair enough I just want a record of what I've been into throughout the year. I'll probably try and update them every Monday (and yes, I know this is a Wednesday)!
Anyway, without further ado, I present my Top 10 and Bottom 5 of the week, so basically my favourite 10 songs at the moment and my absolute 5 least favourite current songs.
And what better way than to start my first chart with a controversial top and bottom pick:
Top 10: 1. Baauer - Harlem Shake 2. Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools (Drank) 3. Imagine Dragons - It’s Time 4. Flume - Holdin On 5. James Arthur - Impossible 6. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis feat. Mary Lambert - Same Love 7. Porter Robinson - Language 8. Calvin Harris feat. Tinie Tempah - Drinking from the Bottle 9. Feed Me & Crystal Fighters - Love Is All I Got 10. Tame Impala - Feels Like We Only Go Backwards
Bottom 5: 1. Pink - Just Give Me A Reason 2. Justin Timberlake - Suit and Tie 3. Icona Pop - I Love It 4. Rihanna feat. David Guetta - Right Now 5. The Potbelleez - Saved in a Bottle
Funny that the song that you're all desperately hoping doesn't get to number 1 is my top song and the tune you all hope holds it off the top spot is on the bottom of my chart
Harlem Shake has captured my imagination. Interestingly, it was actually a widely critically acclaimed dance track last year, so it's not just some crappy tune. There's still a bit of a Hottest 100 effect on my top 10, but most of those tunes are drifting towards the bottom of the chart.
As for the bottom 5, Pink's new song just shows how weak and grating her voice really is. Expect to see Pink feature prominently in the Bottom 5. JT's Suit and Tie is nearly unlistenable, and after hearing his 2nd single this week, I wouldn't be surprised if that makes an appearance in the Bottom 5 soon too, which is funny considering I've really liked JT's past stuff.
Sidenote: If any Survivor fans want to play Survivor online, let me know, a host a highly successful franchise which has run for 10 seasons now, and we're currently casting for season 11
Welcome to posting! I hate Harlem Shake and Kendrick Lamar, but I love Impossible and It's Time, I also quite like Same Love, Flume and Tame Impala. Sadly, I like your top worst three songs, and I have not heard the other two yet.
I like Same Love & Holdin On a lot so I'm glad to see them in your top 10. I agree about Suit & Tie being in the bottom 5 as I dislike it lots as well. I disagree with your 1, 3 & 5 in the bottom 5. I also don't like Harlem Shake at number one. But overall it is a very interesting chart.
Thanks for the kind words guys. That's the beauty of music I guess, something that sounds so good to one person can sound like an absolute trainwreck to someone else.
@TravD, I think your only option is to dance at Harlem Shake being my number 1 We must have similar tastes in music.
@Zacco, I know you really like the Potbelleez new song, but I can't wrap my head around why anyone would like it. I heard it for the 1st time on sunday night and had to turn it off halfway through it was so bad. I've heard it once since and still hated it. I've previously liked some of their stuff so I was disappointed with this one. I also don't get the appeal of I Love It. I'm a huge dance fan, but I can't get into that song at all.
@Anyone saying they like Pink's new song, I can somewhat understand that, cos it's reasonably catchy, but it's just a whole lot of nothing to me and just amplifies Pink's terrible singing. There have been much much better duets recently eg. Beneath Your Beautiful. Compare Emeli Sande's voice to Pink's and there's a huge difference!! Last edited:
2nd week of the chart, and some big changes near the top. You'll see that my taste fluctuates quite fluidly over weeks, depending on what I feel like listening to.
Top 10: 1. Baauer - Harlem Shake 2. Imagine Dragons - It’s Time 3. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Can't Hold Us 4. James Blake - Retrograde 5. 50 Cent feat. Eminem and Adam Levine - My Life 6. James Arthur - Impossible 7. Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools (Drank) 8. Tame Impala - Feels Like We Only Go Backwards 9. Conor Maynard feat. Wiley - Animal 10. Flux Pavilion feat. Childish Gambino - Do or Die
Bottom 5: 1. Pink - Just Give Me A Reason 2. Justin Timberlake - Suit and Tie 3. Icona Pop - I Love It 4. Olly Murs - Army of Two 5. Rihanna feat. David Guetta - Right Now
Unlike on the itunes chart, Harlem Shake holds at number 1. Imagine Dragons rise one spot to 2, while the new Macklemore song is the highest new entry at number 3.
I didn't actually get to listen to that much music last week, as I was sick, so expect the chart to change again next week once I've heard more.
As for the Bottom 5, Pink stays at number 1, in large part to the fact that a terrible song like that has risen back to number 1 on itunes. Luckily it'll be forgotten in a few months time. Zacco will be happy that the Potbelleez song only stayed in the Bottom 5 for a week, whilst the new Olly Murs song is the only new entry. Compared to Troublemaker, it's a shocker! Last edited:
Well, I'm happy now that there are only two songs that I love in your bottom 5. I still think your number ones should be switched around though. Pity that Same Love is out of your top 10 but at least Can't Hold Us is in. Also like seeing Do Or Die in your top 10. Despite this I still think it is an interesting chart
3rd week in, and you'll all be disappointed to learn that Harlem Shake holds onto the number 1 spot in the Top 10 for the 3rd week running. In better news for nearly everyone here, Pink no longer holds the title of "worst song", as there are 2 big new entries into the Bottom 5 including a new number 1.
Top 10: 1. Baauer - Harlem Shake 2. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Can’t Hold Us 3. Bastille - Pompeii 4. Imagine Dragons - It’s Time 5. Flux Pavilion feat. Childish Gambino - Do or Die 6. Flume - On Top 7. James Blake - Retrograde 8. Tame Impala - Feels Like We Only Go Backwards 9. 50 Cent feat. Eminem and Adam Levine - My Life 10. Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools (Drank)
Bottom 5: 1. Havana Brown - Big Banana 2. Justin Timberlake - Suit and Tie 3. Pink - Just Give Me A Reason 4. Rihanna - Stay 5. Icona Pop - I Love It
Just as on itunes, Macklemore is now looking like the most likely act to take over as the next number 1 song. Harlem Shake still gets me dancing for now, but Can't Hold Us is closing fast! The new song Pompeii by Bastille has rocketed in as a new entry at number 3 after I discovered a couple of weeks ago, whilst Flume gets another new entry with On Top.
As for the Bottom 5, the new monstrosity by Havana Brown, Big Banana, enters at the top (or bottom, depending on how you want to look at it), whilst the massive overplaying on radio of Stay means that it debuts at 4, just behind Pink.
Will Harlem Shake stay at number 1 next week, or does Macklemore have enough momentum to reach the top? Even I don't know the answer yet Stay tuned! Last edited:
4th week of the chart and a couple of big questions to be answered - Will Macklemore and Ryan Lewis knock Harlem Shake off the top spot, and will Suit and Tie appease the masses by dethroning Big Banana as the worst song of the week?
Well, here's your answers.
Top 10: 1. Baauer - Harlem Shake 2. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Can’t Hold Us 3. Imagine Dragons - It’s Time 4. Will Sparks - Ah Yeah! 5. Kodaline - High Hopes 6. Lowrider - Golden Sun 7. Bastille - Pompeii 8. Flume - On Top 9. Passenger - Let Her Go 10. Flux Pavilion feat. Childish Gambino - Do or Die
Bottom 5: 1. Justin Timberlake - Suit and Tie 2. Havana Brown - Big Banana 3. T.I. feat. Pink - Guns and Roses 4. Pink - Just Give Me A Reason 5. Rihanna - Stay
Harlem Shake gets its 4th week at number 1. Believe it or not, I'm still not sick of it. Can't Hold Us still looks like the most likely competitor, and maybe a bump up to number 1 on itunes might be the push it needs to get number 1 on this chart too.
4 new entries into the top 10 this week. Will Sparks has caught my attention with his infectious dance hit Ah Yeah! Perhaps potential for another dance meme to take off? New entries also for Kodaline with High Hopes, which is getting radio play now, Lowrider with Golden Sun, which I heard for the first time last week but didn't find out what it was called until a couple of days ago, and Passenger's Let Her Go.
As for the Bottom 5, Justin Timberlake finally takes the mantle of worst song of the week after 3 weeks at number 2. Big Banana slips to number 2 mainly because I avoided it all week. And surprise surprise we have a new Pink entry. I actually quite like the T.I verses in Guns and Roses, but the chorus sung by Pink is one of the most unlistenable parts of a song I've ever heard. I can't believe her screeching passes as "singing". Last edited:
Can Macklemore and Ryan Lewis finally take over from Harlem Shake at number 1?
1. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Can’t Hold Us 2. Robert DeLong - Global Concepts 3. Baauer - Harlem Shake 4. Kodaline - High Hopes 5. Lowrider - Golden Sun 6. Vydamo - Gonna Make It 7. Imagine Dragons - It’s Time 8. Will Sparks - Ah Yeah! 9. Bastille - Pompeii 10. MKTO - Thank You
Bottom 5: 1. Justin Timberlake - Suit and Tie 2. Havana Brown - Big Banana 3. Rihanna - Stay 4. Pink - Just Give Me A Reason 5. Bruno Mars - When I Was Your Man
It's been the closest challenger for a while, and finally Can't Hold Us takes the top spot. I just really really hope it can nab the top spot on the ARIA charts this week too! After 4 weeks at number 1, Harlem Shake falls to number 3, with a huge new entry for Robert DeLong and Global Concepts at 2 (it was very close to cracking the top 10 last week). Kodaline and Lowrider both move up 1 spot, whilst Vydamo debuts at number 6 with Gonna Make It and MKTO's Thank You scrapes in at number 10. In big news, Passenger only spends 1 week in the top 10. I'm already sick of it!
As for the Bottom 5, JT and Havana Brown maintain their lock on the top 2 spots, whilst I've taken T.I out of the Bottom 5 for now pending further listens. As I said last week, I'm a fan of the verses, I just can't stand the chorus. Bruno Mars replaces it with a belated entry at number 5 with When I was Your Man. I didn't mind this song at first, but it doesn't have much value on relisten and the radio has been flogging it.
1. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Can’t Hold Us 2. Robert DeLong - Global Concepts 3. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - And We Danced 4. Baauer - Harlem Shake 5. Vydamo - Gonna Make It 6. Sheppard - Let Me Down Easy 7. Imagine Dragons - It’s Time 8. Lowrider - Golden Sun 9. Kodaline - High Hopes 10. Will Sparks - Ah Yeah!
Bottom 5: 1. Havana Brown - Big Banana 2. Justin Timberlake - Suit and Tie 3. Pink - Just Give Me A Reason 4. Rihanna - Stay 5. McFly - Love Is Easy
Macklemore and Ryan Lewis spend another week at number 1 with Can't Hold Us, and they also have the highest new entry with And We Danced landing at number 3, even though it's a couple of years old! The only other new entry is Let Me Down Easy by Sheppard, a Brisbane family band who's been getting radio play recently.
Havana Brown retakes the Bottom spot with Big Banana. After largely avoiding it for a couple of weeks, it kept on popping up on the radio this week and I still can't stand it. The only new entry in the Bottom 5 is the overplayed and rather simple Love Is Easy by McFly.
Top 10: 1. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Can’t Hold Us 2. James Vincent McMorrow - Higher Love 3. Vydamo - Gonna Make It 4. Imagine Dragons - It’s Time 5. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - And We Danced 6. Kodaline - High Hopes 7. Robert DeLong - Global Concepts 8. Baauer - Harlem Shake 9. Sheppard - Let Me Down Easy 10. Rudimental - Waiting All Night
Bottom 5: 1. Havana Brown - Big Banana 2. McFly - Love Is Easy 3. Olly Murs - Army of Two 4. Pink - Just Give Me A Reason 5. Rihanna - Stay
Can't Hold Us stays at number 1 for a third straight week. The highest new entry goes to James Vincent McMorrow with his cover of Higher Love.
As for the Bottom 5, nothing looks close to knocking of Havana Brown from the bottom spot yet
Was sick last week so didn't get to update. Here's the belated Week 8 chart:
Top 10: 1. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Can’t Hold Us 2. Walk off the Earth - Red Hands 3. James Vincent McMorrow - Higher Love 4. Imagine Dragons - It’s Time 5. Vydamo - Gonna Make It 6. Robert DeLong - Global Concepts 7. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - And We Danced 8. Sheppard - Let Me Down Easy 9. Kodaline - High Hopes 10. Rufus - Take Me
Bottom 5: 1. Havana Brown - Big Banana 2. Chris Brown - Fine China 3. Rihanna - Stay 4. McFly - Love Is Easy 5. Pink - Just Give Me A Reason
Walk Off The Earth's single is awesome. I can't believe how talented they are.
As for Chris Brown's new single - yuck. He should stick to the dance stuff.
Forgot to submit this last week but I did make a list anyway:
Top 10: 1. James Vincent McMorrow - Higher Love 2. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis - Can’t Hold Us 3. Walk off the Earth - Red Hands 4. Tim Morrison - Sunday Bloody Sunday 5. Luke Kennedy - Un Giorno Per Noi/A Time For Us 6. Imogen Brough - Never Let Me Go 7. Caterina Torres - Hot Right Now 8. Emeli Sande - Next To Me (Kendrick Lamar remix) 9. Imagine Dragons - It’s Time 10. Vydamo - Gonna Make It
Bottom 5: 1. Havana Brown - Big Banana 2. Psy - Gentleman 3. McFly - Love Is Easy 4. Chris Brown - Fine China 5. Olly Murs - Army of Two
Higher Love takes number 1 from Macklemore. A few Voice songs enter the chart, but I doubt they'll stay in for long.
And Psy makes an entry - into the Bottom 5 at number 2. Look for Avril Lavigne to enter the Bottom 5 next week!
Top 10: Not happy with Higher Love being at the top. I like Can't Hold Us, Next To Me, It's Time and Imogen's and Caterina's voice performances though
Good to see P!nk leave and be replaced by Gentleman, hope it can get to number 1. Good to see Big Banana continue it's reign because it's extremely awful. I hope Army Of Two can leave next week, it doesn't deserve to be in there
