That was definitely the best Round 1 that we have had in recent times. The Melbourne v GWS game, and particularly the Easter Monday game, were excellent, but there wasn't a bad game in the lot of them, with even the thrashings being entertaining and exhilarating.
It looks like the new rules are working a treat, because games were flowing a lot more smoothly than it has in previous seasons, and we are seeing much higher scores - over half the teams scoring 100 points this round, and 2 teams even cracking triple-digit scores and still losing! (cannot remember the last time that has ever happened in one round of football).
Before this round, I had Geelong missing the top 4 and the Bulldogs missing the top 8. I've already changed my mind on both of those after seeing them play. The Bulldogs were particularly exciting and might even push for the top 4 is they can keep this up.
We might as well start polishing up the Brownlow for Patrick Dangerfield as well. A phenomenal game, only soured by a couple of simple set-shots.
P.S. @TravD - Switch around Geelong and Hawthorn in the results area, as it was Geelong's home game (and then the scores would be correct)
Definitely Freo. Who else could be a premiership favourite one month and then a wooden spoon contender the next? At least Richmond will no doubt recover at some point and finish in their usual position, 9th. heh
I wonder if Freo are the first team to ever win their first nine matches in a season and then lose their first nine matches in the following season. Coincidentally, Richmond were also the team responsible for beating them in Perth last year, which ended that nine-match winning streak.
