The Clean Bandit, Anne-Marie and Sean Paul track "Rockabye" is atop the ARIA Singles Chart for a fourth straight week, and now the last No.1 for the 2016 chart period.

"Rockabye" is also at the top in the UK for a seventh week, and here it is the equal fourth longest run at the top for 2016, matching the four weeks that Justin Bieber's "Love Yourself" notched up in the first four weeks of the year. Holding at No.2 for a broken tenth week are The Weeknd and Daft Punk with "Starboy", matching the ten weeks that Maroon 5 and Christina Aguilera notched up with "Moves Like Jagger" between August and October in 2011.

Climbing one place to a new peak of No.3 is Bruno Mars and "24k Magic", which swaps places with last weeks No.3 debut for Zayn and Taylor Swift on "I Don't Wanna Live Forever", moving to No.4 this week, and keeping everything within the Top 5 for another week by being on hold at No.5, is James Arthur with "Say You Won't Let Go", which is newly certified 3x▲Platinum.

The former No.4 track "Sexual" by Neiked is back up one spot this week to No.6 and climbing to a new peak of No.7 are Peking Duk featuring Elliphant with "Stranger", beating its former peak of No.8 from three weeks ago and it is now ▲Platinum in sales. Last week Alessia Cara entered the Top 10 at No.8 with her first entry to the ten "Scars to Your Beautiful", which remains at eight for a second week, whilst also on hold at No.9 is former No.1 "Closer" for The Chainsmokers with Halsey which logs a 21st week within the Top 10, and it becomes the equal third longest run in Australian Chart history, with seven previous songs logging that amount of time within the Top 10, the last song to do so was "Uptown Funk" two years ago for Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars. If it lasts for one more week it will be the longest run within the Top 10 for this decade, and the song is newly certified 7x▲Platinum in sales. And lastly dropping four places to No.10 is the current US No.1 single "Black Beatles" for Rae Sremmurd, which cracks ▲Platinum in sales too.

* The current Swedish No.1 single for Sydney singer Starley "Call on Me" (Ryan Riback Remix) zooms up nineteen places to land at a new peak of No.12 here.
* Andy Grammer could land his first Top 10 single here in Australia in the new year, as his current chart entry "Fresh Eyes" is up three places to a new peak of No.13.
* Blasting back into the Top 20, up twenty-one places to No.15 is Mariah Carey with "All I Want for Christmas is You". Last year it re-entered the twenty at No.17, in 2014 it made it back up to No.14, overall this is its seventh week within the Top 20 (the first four were during its original chart run in 1994 where it peaked at No.2 for two weeks).
* Last weeks second highest entry and second former-1D entry in the track "Just Hold on" for Steve Aoki with Louis Tomlinson is up five places this week to a new peak of No.20.
* Making its first double-figures jump within the Top 50 this week is Mura Masa with A$AP Rocky and "Love$ick" which is up ten places to land at a new chart height of No.25.
* The only certified song outside of the Top 10 this week is a Gold (●) gong for the new Veronica's track "On Your Side" (HP-19), which this week jumps back up eleven places to land at No.32.
* The ensemble of producers Robin Schulz, David Guetta and Cheat Codes take their collaborative track "Shed a Light" four places higher this week to a new peak of No.34.
* And after three weeks in the 41-50 chart region the new Milky Chance track "Cocoon" breaks into the Top 40 by rising six places to a new peak of No.36.
* After tumbling last week, the track "Human" (HP-38) for Rag'N'Bone Man is back six spots to No.41.
* Back in late November the track "On Hold" for The xx debuted at No.49, and now five weeks later the Hall & Oates infused track (with "I Can't Got for That (No Can Do)") returns to the Top 50 by jumping up thirteen places to a new peak of No.45, beating the No.46 peak that their first entry to the fifty "Angels" achieved in late July 2012.
* Making their first Top 50 chart appearance in four and a half years is US rock band Train, whose latest track "Play That Song" bullets up twenty-four places to land at No.47 this week. Their last Top 50 entry was "Drive By" which made it to No.13 in April of 2012.
* Flume has two tracks at the tail end of the Top 50 this week making small upward gains. "Say it" with Tove Lo is back up one spot to No.48 and his former and first No.1 song "Never Be Like You" is back up five spots to No.49.
* Pnau slither up four places to a new peak of No.57 with their "Chameleon" track.
* After falling to No.98 last week the Sofi Tukker track "Drinkee" this week blasts up thirty-nine spots to land at a new peak of No.59.
* The first of four re-entries this week is a return of the 1984 single by Wham! in "Last Christmas", which jumps back in at No.60.
* This past week Fifth Harmony lost the vocal contribution of member Camilla Cabello to their group, as she announced a solo career, and her teaming with Machine Gun Kelly on "Bad Things" is up eight spots this week to a new peak of No.62.
* The second single lifted from the latest Bruno Mars album "24k Magic" is "Versace on the Floor", which previously charted at No.84 for a week on the 28th of November chart, and now this week the song returns to the Top 100 at a new peak of No.70. Plus Bruno also has ALL of his albums with the Top 100 this week, and his throne as 'Longest Charting Single' continues on the Mark Ronson produced track "Uptown Funk", which this week logs its 110th week within the hundred and the single is back up fourteen places to No.72.
* Noah Cyrus and Labrinth returned to the chart last week with "Make Me (Cry)", which this week is up nine spots to a new chart height of No.79.
* The final two returning tracks this week are "Fast Car" for Jonas Blue at No.96 and back in at No.98 is Sage the Gemini for a third week in the charts with "Now and Later" (HP-96).

* The Weeknd and Daft Punk stay stuck at No.11 for a second week with their second chart collaboration "I Feel it Coming", as no songs fell out of the Top 10 this week to make way for it.
* After slowly climbing back up the charts for the past five weeks (29-23-18-16-13), Justin Timberlake is back down three places to No.16 with his 'Trolls' (TW-6) theme "Can't Stop the Feeling!".
* Leaving the Top 20 for the first time since early September is Calum Scott with his version of "Dancing on My Own", dropping six spots this week to No.21.
* Three songs dropping five places each are "Cheap Thrills" for Sia (21-26), "Side to Side" by Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj (24-29) and "All We Know" for The Chainsmokers (28-33).
* Falling ten places to No.39 is the Calvin Harris solo track "My Way".
* "Juju on the Beat (TZ Anthem)" for Zay and Zayion is down seven to No.44.
* Last weeks two J. Cole tracks both fall down the chart this week, with "Deju Vu" dropping seven to No.52 whilst "Immortal" plummets thirty spots from 57 to No.87.
* Guy Sebastian sees his Part 1 EP return to the albums chart this week at No.33 thanks to its physical release, but the second single from the EP "Set in Stone" is down twelve places to No.53.
* "Party Monster" for The Weeknd drops nine this week to No.65.
* Cashmere Cat with Selena Gomez and Tory Lanez with "Trust Nobody" is down eleven to No.73.
* Zara Larsson drops thirteen to No.76 with "Ain't My Fault".
* Falling twenty places to No.89 is the former No.7 single "Alarm" for Anne-Marie.

* #82 - Party by Chris Brown with Gucci Mane & Usher; is taken from Chris Brown's early 2017 due, eighth studio album "Heartbreak on a Full Moon", and follows on from the albums first entry "Grass Ain't Greener" (HP-97).
* #91 - Frozen by Pon Cho feat Paige IV; the first entry for local artist (he comes from The Blue Mountains in NSW) Pon Cho who has teamed with another local singer in Paige IV, who appeared on the L.D.R.U. track "Keeping Score" which made it to No.14 in late January. So this becomes her second chart entry and the final new entry for 2016.

The John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John seasonal collaboration "Friends for Christmas" stays for a second week at the top of the ARIA Albums chart this week.

"Friends for Christmas" is only the seventh album for 2016 to log two or more weeks at the top, as overall we have had 43 albums go to No.1 during 2016, more than any other year this decade (2010 - 20 #1's, 2011 - 14 {the year of Adele's "21"}, 2012 - 21, 2013 - 36, 2014 - 31, and 2015 - 32). The Johns' stable No.1 keeps the former No.1 "Christmas" by Michael Buble at No.2 for a third straight week (this year anyway), but with three days of seasonal sales within the next weeks chart data, it could yet again ascend to the top for a fifth run and fourteenth accumulated week at No.1 in Australia.

The entire top five albums from last week remain within the Top 5 this week, with only a few changes to the line-up. Remaining at No.3 for a second week (after a single week at the top) is The Rolling Stones blues covers album "Blue & Lonesome", whilst swapping places this week are Adele with "25" up one to No.4 and "Ripcord" by Keith Urban down a spot to No.5 after he finished his national tour here.

One of two soundtracks within the Top 10 this week is the "Trolls" set, which is up four places to a new peak of No.6, and the album is the only certification for this week, newly Gold (●) in sales, with the other soundtrack being for the TV series "The Secret Daughter" for Jessica Mauboy, which is down one spot to No.8 this week.

In between those two soundtracks at No.7 is Bruno Mars with his third album "24k Magic", which is back up four places and into the Top 10 for a third week. The fourth and final album on hold in the Top 10 this week is Metallica with "Hardwired... to Self Destruct" at No.9, whilst also returning to the Top 10, up six spots to No.10 is the latest Michael Buble studio album "Nobody But Me", racking up a fourth week inside the ten, helped by last weeks edition of 'Sunday Night' on Channel 7, which replayed their Michael Buble interview, plus his holiday special screened on Chanel 10, both broadcast within the chart week.

* Another replayed 'Sunday Night' (Ch.7) interview was the one with Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt and Emmylou Harris, which looks to have helped the trio's collection "My Dear Companion" to jump back up twenty-nine places this week to No.14.
* Human Nature's repackaged "Gimme Some Lovin': Jukebox Vol.II" is back up eleven places this week to No.21.
* Both of the first two albums for Adele rise back up this week, with "21" rising seven to No.29 and "19" back up thirteen spots to No.56.
* "Skin" by Flume is back up six spots to No.31.
* Guy Sebastian released the physical edition of his "Part 1" EP (HP-31) last week, and that helps the set to return to the Top 100 this week at No.33.
* Last weeks debut for the upcoming animated film "Sing" sees its soundtrack leap up thirty-five places to a new peak of No.42 this week.
* The INXS compilation "The Very Best of" returns to the Top 50 this week, up twenty-three places to land at No.43.
* With their 2017 Australian tour looming, the "Greatest Hits" for Guns N' Roses is back up eleven spots to No.49.
* Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds see their former No.1 "Skeleton Tree" rise again, up sixteen spots this week to No.63.
* The Cold Chisel "Best of-All for You" jumps back up thirty places to No.65.
* Both of the David Bowie compilations in "Legacy" and his previous collection "Nothing Has Changed: The Best of" both climb back up eleven places to No.72 and No.75 respectively, whilst his last studio album "Blackstar" returns to the Top 100 at No.81.
* Slava Grigoryan comes close to reaching his former entry peak of No.75, as his "Bach: Cello Suites Vol.1" is back up nineteen places this week to No.77.
* Further returns this week sees Greatest Hits collections for Queen (#79), Red Hot Chili Peppers (#84) and Prince with "4Ever" (#95) back into the Top 100.
* And five more albums re-entering are "WACO" for Violent Soho (#86) "Wildflower" for The Avalanches (#93), "Thank You" for Meghan Trainor (#99) and the first two Bruno Mars albums "Doo-Wops & Hooligans" (#98) and "Unorthodox Jukebox" (#94).

* The first of two albums leaving the Top 10 this week is for recent tourists here Coldplay and "A Head Full of Dreams" (HP-2, WI10-10) which is down three to No.11, whilst their 4CD Catalogue Set is stable at No.27 this week.
* The highest new entry from last week was the J. Cole set "4 Your Eyez Only" at No.6, which this week drops twenty-eight places to land at No.34.
* Last weeks second highest entry in the self-titled album for X-Factor 2016 winner Isaiah is this week down fourteen places to No.26.
* With the Cold Chisel best of jumping back up, their recent live album entry "The Live Tapes Vol.3" is down this week six places to No.32.
* After blasting back up the chart last week, the Carrie Underwood set "Storyteller" is back down ten places to No.38 this week, now that her tour here with Keith Urban is finished.
* After hitting a new peak of No.39 last week, the twenty one pilots double album of 'Vessel' and 'Blurryface' drops back down six this week to No.45.
* After returning to the Top 50 last week, this week "The Ultimate Collection" by Roy Orbison drops back down fourteen places to No.52.
* Another act who started out in the 1950's in Cliff Richard sees his latest covers album "Just... Fabulous Rock 'N' Roll" fall thirteen places to No.57.
* Leaving the Top 50 for the first time is the Barry Gibb album "In the Now", down ten to No.59.
* The Ed Sheeran set "x" is down fourteen places this week to No.69.
* Two kids albums dropping this week are "The Best of" for The Wiggles (54-64) and "50 Best Songs" by Play School (56-76).
* Three local acts' albums that fall in the lower fifty are "Brace" by Birds of Tokyo (73-85), "Let There Be Light" for Hillsong Worship (63-92) and "Reclaim Australia" by the duo A.B.Original (72-96).

* Logging an overall tenth week within the Top 20 is the Mariah Carey seasonal album "Merry Christmas", which is back up seven places this week to No.17. In 2015 the set got back up to No.19 and prior to that the 2012 return saw it climb to No.19 also, initially it was in the Top 20 (and 10) during its 1994 chart run.
* There are two albums within the Top 40 for Pentatonix, with their latest "A Pentatonix Christmas" (HP-16), up one spot to No.22, and their former entry "That's Christmas to Me" down eight places this week to No.39.
* The Human Nature festive set "The Christmas Album" is on hold at No.25.
* The Ten Tenors are back down three to No.36 with "Our Christmas Wish".
* Neil Diamond is up eleven places and into the Top 50 for the first time with his "Acoustic Christmas" album, climbing to a new peak of No.46. This becomes his second Top 50 seasonal entry, as back in 1992 "The Christmas Album" climbed to No.30.
* The ninth Xmas Album within the Top 50 this week is "Kylie Christmas: The Snow Queen Edition", which is down four this week to No.50.
* Rod Stewart returned to the chart at No.59 last week with "Merry Christmas, Baby", which is down two places this week to No.61.
* Andre Rieu has two albums in the Top 100 this week, his "Falling in Love" album is back up four to No.46, whilst his "Best of Christmas" set jumps thirteen places to No.66, with Andre being another of the Channel 7 'Sunday Night' musician interviews replayed last week.

* #80 - The seventh soundtrack to chart in Australia from a 'Star Wars' film enters at No.80 this week, and is taken from the first stand-alone Star Wars story "Rogue One", the music performed this time by Michael Giacchino rather than John Williams.
* #88 - The sixth studio album for Kid Cudi entitled "Passion, Pain & Demon' Slayin'" is the final new entry to the Albums Chart for 2016, coming in at No.88 this week, and becoming his fifth studio album to make it onto the ARIA Albums Chart.

Having recently completed the audio for the full 2007 ARIA list means that there is now audio for every song that's entered the ARIA Top 100 Singles chart in the past 10 years, which is soon to be 11 years when the 2006 list gets its audio completed next week.

A total of 405 songs entered the ARIA Top 100 Singles chart this year. This is considerably lower than the averages for this decade and century which are both about 450 songs, although it's higher than the unusually low total of 2007's which was only 336 songs. All totals have included re-entries.

Merry Christmas everyone!
Well done John and Olivia for holding off Michael for another week. Great to see Australia embracing a Christmas album by a local act.

Hi Hijinx, in one of your tweets you mention 4 songs that are about yo enter the airplay top 40 but have been played on JJJ for months. What 4 songs are you referring to?

Also do you find songs that do well on ARIA and more successful mainstream do better on the hottest 100 compared to how they appear to be ranking on your lists? From memory we saw this to be the case last year with Alive and I would have thought the likes of 1955, Papercuts and Starboy to be more popular. Alarm too.
Check out the airplay thread, but the 4 debuts this week were Play That Song, Drinkee, Adore & Chameleon

Also yes that does seem to be the case but generally not extremely so unless the song is 'embarrassing' to post a vote for, a la Downtown last year.
