A new year and oddly enough a new #1 to go with it! Well only in one sense as the incumbent is rather much fresher than the new #1, but that can be the case at this time of year! Anyway, this week welcomes Car Seat Headrest to the winner's table, as "Drunk Drivers / Killer Whales" askews its 1 position a week moving pattern to jump straight from #4 to #1 this week. It's thus good times for the US who can claim the last 4 #1s! As per that, the US also claims the entire top 3 this week, with A Tribe Called Quest sliding to #2, and Maggie Rogers bumped to #3. Some other countries get a go for the rest of the top 5 though, with Sløtface at #4 and PUP at #5, which is a new peak for the latter. Also newly in the top 10 this week is A.B. Original, whose "January 26" continues to climb, now at #9 in its 6th week charting. Childish Gambino is giving the top 10 another go with "Redbone" replacing "Me And Your Mama" in the #11 slot, though he faces competition from K.I.D whose "Taker" is fast rising up to #12.

You may or may not know this, but "Run The Jewels 3" was released last week and unsurprisingly it is very good. It was released so late in the year that I've done a rare showing of deciding to represent it in my 2017 year end lists when the time comes. I've also spared listening to it too much as I work on those 2016 proceedings, but for now, I'm picking out one of the earlier released singles that WILL represent 2016 (provided it makes the cut). Now you may or may not recall, or have any reason to recall that "Run The Jewels 2" was my favourite album of 2014. My favourite track on it was "Early", which featured the singer BOOTS, who I assume bares no relation to the Captain Commando 7th stage boss who is incapable of falling down or being beaten without cheap tactics. He's turned up on the new album in another cracking role with "2100" which enters at #17. It's the 5th time Run The Jewels have charted. A song I've been hearing on an ad for a festival in which this band won a competition to play in, but I've never been able to catch the band's name prior until I heard the full song which I found myself enjoying about as much as I'd hoped, even if it's less gazey than I had initially perceived. The Money War get their first chart representation with "Recall" at #31. Speaking of Australian bands who have won competitions, we've got Vallis Alps, who are best known for their killer single "Young" from 2015, which just narrowly missed my chart at the time. Is it injustice or compensation that sees them get their chart debut with "Fading" this week? Time will tell, though it does forever favour the young. "Fading" is in at #34 anyhow. Lastly a debut that's been trying for quite a while to get in. It's UK musician SOHN, who is charting for the first time ever with the rather engaging "Conrad" at #39.
Aww at no Legend Has It But nice for Fading and ooh very unlike your chart in recent years for a song to only get a week at #1. Great to see January 26 into the top 10 and TOGETHER also move up.
Listened to RTJ3 again this morning and 2100 still stands out, so yay. Excellent to see Vallis Alps crack the top 40 too and I liked the Recall song. Wow @ Car Seat Headrest #EOYhype but also good jumps for PUP, Childish Gambino and Mitski.
As tends to be the case, things are probably going to slow down in the quiet times of January, although this week had enough going on for me to get in a typical 4 entries, and two of them even came out this year! The top of the chart doesn't really change though, with Car Seat Headrest holding #1, A Tribe Called Quest at #2 and Maggie Rogers at #3. PUP are able to get a new peak of #4 which pushes "Empire Records" down to #5. Jumping into the top 10 this week is last week's top debut for Run The Jewels. "2100" moves up 7 places to #10 and becomes their 3rd top 10 hit after "Blockbuster Night Pt. 1" and "Born To Shine". Also making big waves this week is actually Camp Cope, who after 10 weeks in the chart, reach a big new peak of #10 with "Done", having previously been as high as #26.
NEW ENTRIES
Now if I said that I have 2 new entries that came out this year, and you know anything about me, and also have been keeping an eye on new music, you probably know exactly which songs I'm talking about. Otherwise I'll put you at ease and introduce London Grammar into the chart, who haven't had a debut since late 2013! 2013 was a year that was kind to them, notably notching a #1 in "Strong". They now pick up their 4th chart entry to date with the especially haunting "Rooting For You" at #18. Next up is a bit of a holdover from last year, as we see A.B. Original getting a 2nd entry on the chart, this time teaming up with the lovely Thelma Plum on the song "I C U", which I'm really quite surprised isn't more popular as it really sounds like a hit. It comes in at #27 this week. And of course that other 2017 entry comes from The xx, who follow up their top 10 hit "On Hold" with another wacky sample. At #35 we find the track "Say Something Loving" which is their 5th charting entry to date. Lastly we have a debutant artist, though one that's been kicking around for quite a while. I've been aware of Clubfeet for several years now without taking *too* much interest though they had the occasional spark of quality. They are of course most famous for having a really sweet video made for one of their songs, and then One Direction coming out with a video a year later using a similar technique, and as per that, "Everything You Wanted" has a rather grim dislike bar, help skew it back the right way if you have the chance. Anyway, this new song "Canyons" feels like a different turn for the band that you can barely recognise, and it has been trying to get into the chart for a few weeks now, and succeeds, landing in at #39.
I couldn't really get into the London Grammar and The xx tracks so much but yay Canyons! I had forgotten Clubfeet were the band ripped off by One Direction Go January 26 and TOGETHER.
The xx's song is good and I hope it pushes up. I can say that for Mitski as well, great album opener We The People.... being so close to the top 5 is excellent, and not surprised at 2100's quick rise into the top 10! Good moves for The Money War and PUP as ewll.
It's a bit of a slow week this week, I have been busy with prepping my end of year list, and there has been a certain week long speedrunning marathon which leads to not a lot of time for music. Car Seat Headrest have #1 for a 3rd week in a row, while Maggie Rogers climbs back up to #2 with "Dog Years". A Tribe Called Quest sit at #3 this week with "Dis Generation", but they also have "We The People...." reaching a new peak of #5. PUP round out the top 5 with "DVP" holding at #4. New into the top 10 this week is K.I.D's "Taker" up from #11 to #10. Despite this slow week, there are some big moves lower down the chart. A.B. Original, SOHN & Clubfeet take strong gains, but totally dwarfed by The xx soaring 16 places to #19 with "Say Something Loving".
NEW ENTRIES
Just the one this week, and it's not particularly new either. After a somewhat lengthy campaign up the bottom end of the chart, Left. manage to take advantage of a slow week with "Midnight" sneaking through at #37.
Listened to the #1, It's an interesting tune. Not necasserily for me, but I'm glad I listened to it anyway. Great to see The XX entries as well as the gambino stuff.
For the record comments are appreciated and I really want to reciprocate them, and perhaps will once I am no longer devoting my free time to all Hottest 100 business
Jan 22nd
I'm very sleepy and Car Seat Headrest are still #1.
NEW ENTRIES
I've frequently making jokes about the relation between The xx and Milky Chance on the flimsy comparison that they both released their lead off singles on the same week and have tracked with comparable success. Imagine if you combined both of those bands together, you'd probably get "Wait" by NoMBe which is in at #24. Remember back in 2013 when I charted My Bloody Valentine of all bands? Well wouldn't you know that some contemporaries of theirs whose "Souvlaki" album I deeply love just so happen to be doing a similar comeback thingy. Of course I'm talking about Slowdive who see their first ever entry with "Star Roving" at #26. Lastly we have a familiar face in the chart, so familiar that he got his first debut this year, and it's still on the way up. SOHN makes it to a 2nd entry as "Proof" debuts at #29.
Slowdive! Now that's a band I need to hear more of, I'll put it on the list I would have no issue in either ATCQ getting to #1, but WTP.... would be especically cool. Also I heard a different SOHN song and didn't think much of it honestly
There is really not much action to note in the top end of the chart, it's the same 5 songs as it was a fortnight ago. Which means that Car Seat Headrest notch up a 5th week at the top, "Dis Generation" holds #2 while "Dog Years" holds #3. Just below that, PUP swaps places with A Tribe Called Quest again, resulting in "DVP" at #4 and "We The People...." at #5. What's more of note below that is that after 13 weeks on the chart, Camp Cope's "Done" cracks the top 10 in style, landing at #7 this week.
NEW ENTRIES
We've got a lot of fresh faces this week. The first of which is me playing catch up in the sense that I've frequently gotten into Methyl Ethel songs but rather a bit too late to put them on my chart. Things have changed rapidly as I now include a song of theirs that only just came out this week, I'm talking about "Ubu" which enters at #18. A similar case though not to the same degree. I quite like Hellions' album they put out next year, and thanks to the radio singles continuing on into the new year, I've found myself really getting into their song "Nightliner Rhapsody", so it makes a debut at #24. Let it be known that we don't skimp on diversity here. The one chart veteran this week is Spoon, and they go way back. They first charted in 2010, and reached the top 5 with their song "The Mystery Zone", and apart from that it's just been gentle jabs into the chart here and there. They instantly have their equal second highest charter with new single "Hot Thoughts" which debuts at #30, their 4th chart entry, and first in over 2 and a half years. Now we have an artist that may as well be familiar to the chart, as they had a respectable bubbler last year, from a pretty incredible album that should have been better represented. Well now's their chance as King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard get their first ever entry at #32 with their latest single "Sleep Drifter". As Camp Cope reach the top 10 this week, it's worth noting that they just recently released a split EP with the band Cayetana. I haven't gotten to listening to it yet, but one of the latter band's efforts has landed in the chart this week, "Mesa" at #35.
urgh I forget the Hellions song that I liked... I don't think it was that one yayyyyy King Gizzard and Methyl Ethel, yet to hear that Spoon track. go DVP!
Car Seat Headrest continue to have the only #1 so far this year with "Drunk Drivers / Killer Whales" notching up a 6th week at the top. They have competition with a hotshot debut at #2, but more on that later. A Tribe Called Quest move down to #3 with "Dis Generation", while PUP have their 4th non-consecutive week at #4 with "DVP". Maggie Rogers closes the top 5 with "Dog Years", which has now spent 10 weeks in that upper echelon. New to the top 10 is London Grammar, whose "Rooting For You" becomes their 2nd top 10 hit after "Strong", reaching #9 this week. Methyl Ethel will try to do the same next week with "Ubu", but they don't quite have the biggest mover of the week, that goes to Hellions with "Nightliner Rhapsody" up 6 places to #18.
NEW ENTRIES
I've kind of been holding off on "Run The Jewels 3" for a while, partly because I've been so busy and also because I've primarily been using a computer that doesn't have my music on it. They've had "2100" doing well reaching #6 last week, but that's been eclipsed now by the big new entry for "Thursday In The Danger Room" all the way up at #2. It's a great lyrical track and also features a commendable feature from saxophonist Kamasi Washington. It's their 5th chart entry to date, and also highest charter to date. Stepping down a little lower, we have a debutant to the charts, with Bonobo having recently released a new album, and featuring a new single which features Nick Murphy, and inherits his fancying for releasing a long song with an edit alongside it. "No Reason" comes through at #22. Now we have some artists returning to the chart from a variety of stop gaps. For Temples now, this is their first time in the chart since 2014, when they notably picked up a #1 with "Mesmerise", and followed with a top 10 in "Move With The Seasons". They now return to the chart with their 3rd entry "Strange Or Be Forgotten" at #30. Now we have an artist that really doesn't hurry between entries. I'm talking about Goldfrapp, who I do have a lot of love for, though they've only sparingly made this chart. Firstly in 2010 with "Rocket" barely scraping through, but then returning in a big way with a #1 hit "Drew" in late 2013. They now pick up their 3rd entry "Anymore" at #32, and I await to see if they can finally chart two tracks from the same album. Now for a third consecutive #1 artist in a row, though the most recent of the batch. I'm talking about Middle Kids who had the longest running entry of the year with "Edge Of Town" which hit #1 in August. They have a 3rd charting entry now with "Never Start" which immediately matches the peak of previous entry "Your Love", meaning it's #35 this week.

Run The Jewels
Thursday In The Danger Room (feat Kamasi Washington)
One of the things I like least about my job is missing out on commenting on people's personal charts I'm pleased to see Midnight, Wait, No Reason and Anymore (was surprised to not see this last week in fact) debut recently. Good to see Wait move up but ouch I quite like four of the dropouts this week and have charted three of them
Hmm Thursday In The Danger Room doesn't stand out much for me, but then again neither did the album tbh The other four debuts are good, in particular Temples of course, whom I'm glad have made an impact on your chart too. yass rises for Camp Cope, Methyl Ethel, Slowdive, Spoon and King Gizz!
It's taken a while but 2017 finally has its 2nd #1 hit. Call me a sucker for a poignant lyrical tale (or two), but Run The Jewels' "Thursday In The Danger Room" has really made its mark for me, and becomes their first ever #1 hit. It dispatches Car Seat Headrest after 6 weeks at #1, now sitting at #2. Bolting up to #3, up 10 places is Methyl Ethel with "Ubu", the first time an Australian artist has cracked the top 3 since November last year. PUP thus remain yet again hoisted at #4 with "DVP", while Camp Cope continue their obscenely slow ascent and reach a new height of #5 with "Done".
NEW ENTRIES
I am fully embracing both my /r/triplej and /r/indieheads sides this week as 2017 is really starting to kick into gear. The top debut this week comes from Gang Of Youths, who continue to do no wrong, and find all new chart heights this week with "What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?". They reached #14 with "Strange Diseases" last year, now they're debuting straight in at #11. Another returning artist with a slightly longer absence, we've got Future Islands making their 3rd chart appearance to date. They're best known for the huge top 5 hit "Seasons (Waiting On You)", and maybe they can repeat their fortunes with a strong start at #14 for "Ran". An even slightly longer absence next, as this week sees the return of Australian post-rock giants sleepmakeswaves. They had a huge hit in 2014 with "Something Like Avalanches" climbing all the way up to #3. Now they finally get a 2nd entry with new single "Tundra" at #22. Slightly less of a wait now, as we have the return to the charts for Father John Misty, who is seemingly chucking out singles all over the place, but until the album comes out, I'll be satiated with the title track "Pure Comedy", which is as biting as it is beautiful. Entering at #23, it's his 5th chart entry to date. Lastly we have what is generally agreed to be the most massive tune on the radio at the moment, as SLUMBERJACK team up with Vera Blue of all people to deliver "Fracture". I also like to note that it was co-written by Owl Eyes who has been absent from this chart for far too long for my liking, but I'll take this. It's in at #37.

Run The Jewels
Thursday In The Danger Room (feat Kamasi Washington) {1 Week @ #1}
Go Fracture! The last time there was an Australian artist in my top 3 was May last year when Whenever I'm With You was top 3 Three Australian songs have made it to #4 since then though Good to see Say Something Loving, Wait, No Reason and Anymore move up.
Interesting moves at the top now and go Methyl Ethel!! Really nice to see FJM, Future Islands and Slumberjack debut, and neat moves for King Gizzard, Bonobo, Middle Kids and The xx. Awww come on Slowdive
It's one of those weeks wherein a vague state of equilibrium has been reached and the top 5 remains the same. Run The Jewels at #1, Car Seat Headrest #2, Methyl Ethel #3, PUP #4 & Camp Cope #5. That's not to say there isn't stuff happening in the chart, just not in the top 5. After all, Gang Of Youths have stormed up to score their first ever top 10, with "What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?" at #6. Future Islands are not far off grabbing their 2nd either, while Father John Misty & sleepmakeswaves have good momentum from their debuts to crack the top 20.
NEW ENTRIES
I'm here to slightly alleviate my role in perpetuating the state of Australian female singers who get their biggest hits when they guest on songs by male producers/rappers. So here's Airling getting her first solo entry, and rather high up at #18. She previously guested on "Forces" by Japanese Wallpaper, but now she's in with her own track "Not A Fighter". Now a new artist to the chart, we have K.Flay who had a bit of a hit last year with "Blood In The Cut", but now it's her latest single that's really caught my attention. The raucous "Black Wave" is in at #30, you don't wanna test her. Lastly a technical debut even though this is an artist that has worked on two top 10 EOY tracks for me. Talking about Thundercat who of course produced Kimbra's #2 hit "Miracle", as well as Kendrick Lamar's "These Walls", but now he's out on his own with "Friend Zone", which is better than the title may make you think.

Run The Jewels
Thursday In The Danger Room (feat Kamasi Washington) {2 Weeks @ #1}
My chart is the opposite lately, seems to get a shakeup each week because of a lack of really strong hits And this week I got my first Aussie song in the top 3 since May 2015, thanks Ms Dhu I'm pleased to see Not A Fighter debut and make it in so high already, while the new peaks for No Reason and Fracture are good too. Pity Anymore is already losing momentum, though.
So I think the debuts should be flipped and then they'd be in the right order Interesting to see the top 5 look even more settled than mine and omg Future Islands sharing the same spot! yay FJM, Cayetana and Slumberjack moving up. also come on Slowdive and Spoon, wrong direction
Stability around the top region continues to a lesser extent. Run The Jewels still see you now at #1 for a 3rd week with "Thursday In The Danger Room", while Car Seat Headrest are in the backseat of this car at #2 with "Drunk Drivers / Killer Whales". Methyl Ethel can only which that this metaphorical hair could be cut so "Ubu" can move up from its peak of #3. Climbing up to a new peak however this week is Gang Of Youths with what continues to be their best charting hit to date, with "What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?" up 2 places to #4, while PUP have finally completed their month long 180 on the Don Valley Chartway with "DVP" falling 1 place to #5. We also have a newcomer to the top 10 with Future Islands getting their 2nd ever in "Ran" which is up 4 places to #7. Father John Misty is aiming for his first since 2013 while sleepmakeswaves were last there in 2014. K.Flay has the biggest climb of the week with last week's debut "Black Wave" up 7 places to #23.
NEW ENTRIES
Starting off with some familiar faces this week, firstly so familiar that they hadn't even left yet. Spoon of course had "Hot Thoughts" debuting a month ago to some moderate success, now they get a bit higher with "Can I Sit Next To You" which instantly outpeaks that as it debuts at #20, which is their 5th charting song to date. Next up we go just a little further back to a band who debuted at the start of the year and dropped out last week. Talking about The Money War who thrilled me with their song "Recall" and its vaguely Arcade Fire-ish groove. Latest single "Stars" has a similarly nostalgic feel to it though I'd not point this one to Arcade Fire. Remains to be seen if they can reach new heights, but for now, "Stars" is in at #28. Now here's an oddity. For the past few weeks I've been under the strange circumstance of having multiple Jamiroquai singles bubbling under my chart, and this week one of them breaks through, with thanks to their new music being far better than I had any reason to expect. It's like an odyssey of sorts, and so they appear on this chart for the first time ever with "Automaton" at #33. Finally I don't have much of a story for this one apart from finding it on Spotify and liking it quite a bit. Marika Hackman makes her debut to the chart with "Boyfriend" at #39.

omg Automaton! I was wondering if it were ever going to make it I remembered it as debuting at #32 though, but maybe that's just because #32 is where it debuted on my chart #33 is still awesome though Good to see Fracture move up but apart from that nothing else for me to comment on this week.
Big fan of Spoon's new stuff and I don't mind The Money War and Jamiroquai either, or at least I liked the former's previous chart hit of yours. Pure Comedy appears to be going on a much more conventional run here than for me, therefore I hope that if it gets to the top 10 it can actually do something yay for Temples, Thundercat, Cayetana and Bonobo moving up too.
Some increased activity in the top echelons of the chart this week. Not at the very top though as Run The Jewels rack up a 4th week at #1 with "Thursday In The Danger Room". Their competition is heating up however, with Methyl Ethel taking "Ubu" up to #2, while Gang Of Youths' "What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?" now rides at #3. This is the first time in 5 months that two Australian singles have occupied the top 3 together. Thus Car Seat Headrest are knocked back to #4, while Future Islands climb to #5 with "Ran", their second top 5 peak after "Seasons (Waiting On You)" reached #4. Father John Misty is also in the top 10 now with "Pure Comedy" at #7, which is his 3rd top 10 hit after "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings" and "Nancy From Now On". This week also features healthy 7 places climbs for Spoon and The Money War.
NEW ENTRIES
I normally ward them off by this point, but I found a late 2016 single that I love too much to give it no appreciation. And let's be honest, my chart can always use more all-caps artists. So ELKI has her bouncy piano driven pop tune "Golden Age" debuting at #17, and not the last of its kind this week. Another debutant to follow, though one I've been much longer aware of. I am talking about Denmark's finest Mew, whose back catalogue I have some select love for. They've finally caught onto me with a recent single though, so their "85 Videos" gets in at #26. As Gengahr couldn't quite manage an entry in 2015, this makes them the most popular Pokemon band I think. Now a song I didn't think I would be debuting this soon, but I've quickly found myself unable to resist its charms. We've got the long awaited return of Lorde who was last seen on the chart in late 2015 alongside Disclosure on "Magnets", and has amassed quite a few hits over those years. Including features, she ticks off a 7th chart entry now with new single "Green Light". Lastly we have another 2016 track which is sort of disappointing because I only dropped out two 2016 tracks this week, meaning my chart is no more up to date than it was last week. Unlike ELKI though, this is less of a debut, and more of a slow climb from the lower rungs of the chart. It comes courtesy of Big Sean who has appeared in my top 80 so many times I've lost count, though for top 40 this is only his 4th entry. "Bounce Back" comes in at #34.

Ubu would be an interesting #1 but I can see Gang Of Youths leapfrogging them. Great to see Future Islands, FJM, Thundercat, Jamiroquai, Spoon and The Money War all move up. Wasn't huge on 85 Videos but I do like Bounce Back.
It's now been 5 weeks on top for Run The Jewels, which is one for every word in the title. If they were to use that title as an intimidation factor, the point would be lost this week as last week's #2 "Ubu" has moved down to #3 to be replaced by last week's #3, the rather lengthily titled "What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?". Future Islands match their previous best peak as "Ran" climbs to #4, while Car Seat Headrest are still hanging around in the top 5 at #5. Also reaching the top 10 this time are two bands who've been there just once before. For Spoon this is their first outing there since "The Mystery Zone" which was incidentally sitting at #7 at the same time 7 years ago, which is where their new single "Can I Sit Next To You" is this week. The other band returning to these heights is sleepmakeswaves, whose previous hit was "Something Like Avalanches" in 2014. Now they also have "Tundra" as a #9 hit at least.
NEW ENTRIES
Big week for debuts, many coming from artists I wouldn't have expected to see here a few weeks or so prior. The first one comes from Laura Marling, an artist I've always admired and whose albums I usually give a listen to when they come out. She continues to impress me with the way her music has evolved, and I'm singing high praises of her latest album as a result. The song that piqued my interest in particular here was "Always This Way", so that enters the chart this week at #15. She'd only previously charted once with "False Hope" back in 2015, and that only reached #20 so this is instantly her highest charter. Next up it's an album that's not released until next week, though plenty of it is out and about to be heard. It's also quite a long time between drinks for Milky Chance who haven't been on the chart since their big top 5 hit "Stolen Dance" in 2013. It's been the title track "Blossom" which I've cottoned onto this time, which sounds oddly like Lost Frequencies' "Reality" put through a Milky Chance filter. Nonetheless it scores them their 2nd ever entry at #25 this week. Next is a track I've been meaning to chart for a little while but have only just now remembered to actually put it on the chart. Nonetheless, we've got the debut appearance on the chart for Stormzy, who is practically paving a music movement as we speak and I couldn't be happier for him. His album also includes a colossal banger in the form of "Big For Your Boots" which I've just been enamoured with lately. It's new in at #29. Next up we have one of those random tracks that caught me by surprise on the new releases list given it could have easily just been a dull non-event. But as fate would have it, the new collaboration between Yellow motherf**king Claw, DJ Snake & Elliphant is very potent indeed, and features a tremendously strong outro that makes me think of "Told You I'd Be With The Guys" if it were a dance song. For Yellow Claw & Elliphant, this is actually their first time in the chart, while DJ Snake is back for a 3rd time following his 2015 hits "Lean On" and "Middle". "Good Day" debuts at #32 this week. Now, a more expected artist at this stage, we have the 2nd entry now for Methyl Ethel, who of course have been riding high with their anti-haircut anthem in recent weeks. While that song title was quite brief, they've gone the other way for the next single, with the title "L'Heure des Sorcières" which is the French name for the Anne Rice novel "The Witching Hour", because why not. It debuts at #36 this week. Next up we have another one of those solo female artists I don't know very much about but I like their song. This one's a very tightly produced track that I have trouble pigeonholing, but is very interesting. "Don't Wait" by Annie Bass is new at #37. And because I've broken through the oddity of having a Jamiroquai song in my chart, let's not stop at one and add another. They now also have "Cloud 9" at #40.

Have yet to hear that Stormzy song but I do recall liking Good Day and I love seeing Cloud 9 make the chart of course. Great to see rises for Not A Fighter, Fracture, Green Light and Automaton.
wooo Stormzy and Methyl Ethel! not as keen on Cloud 9 but that's only based on 1 play. yass Automaton and Stars both up. Really liking the top 5 at the moment and Gang of Youths would be a good #1.
Top end of the chart is pretty relaxed at the moment, but perhaps an uprising is on the way? Not yet though, Run The Jewels take up residence for a 6th week with "Thursday In The Danger Room". Gang Of Youths remain just behind with "What Can I Do If There Fire Goes Out?" at #2, while Methyl Ethel also maintain "Ubu"'s #3 position. Spoon see their outright highest ever charter this week with "Can I Sit Next To You" all the way up to #4, while Future Islands have the odd one out of the top 5 for having a song whose length and title are both not obscenely long, "Ran" sitting at #5 this week. The top 10 was also in danger of turning into a sausage-fest last week, but coming to save the day in that regard is Laura Marling whose "Always This Way" climbs up 7 places to #8, her first ever top 10 hit. Similarly healthy climbs this week come from Lorde, Stormzy & Yellow Claw.
NEW ENTRIES
If you are a regular reader of this chart, then you might recall a little song called "Drive" last year by Gretta Ray which took the chart by storm, rightly so as it was my favourite song of last year. It was followed by a respectable lesser hit in "Unwind" which reached #25. The new single is out now and it's perhaps back on that winning form, if nothing else, it can lay claim to debuting higher than "Drive" did. So Gretta Ray gets her 3rd ever entry with "Towers" all the way up at #6. But she's been in the chart recently, so let's go back to some less familiar faces. This next artist in question has only charted once before and that was at the start of 2009, over 8 years ago now. But, Fleet Foxes are at last back and doing what's expected of them with their lovely, warm harmonies. They're also doing what's not expected of them and introducing their album with a teaser track that is 9 minutes long and has a title I can't even pronounce. Still it does them the goods here, with "Third Of May / Ōdaigahara" debuting at #32, their 2nd ever entry following top 20 hit "White Winter Hymnal". Lastly, it's that wonderful occasional time where amidst his endless stream of releases, Calvin Harris managed to put out something I can get behind. It'd be easy to credit his guest stars but I don't think that's fair as he definitely stepped up his game this time around. Nonetheless, "Slide" comes through at #37 giving Calvin his 4th ever entry, his first since 2014's "Pray To God". Frank Ocean is more of a chart regular when he puts out music, so this is his 7th entry, while it's the first time in the top 40 for Migos, who came ever so close with "Bad and Boujee" climbing to #42. Feel free to blame Lil Uzi Vert.

Can't remember if I heard new Gretta Ray or not. But I can definitely praise Slide, woo! I hope Not A Fighter can get into the top 10 next week, and I love seein Green Light, Fracture, Automaton, Bounce Back and Cloud 9 all move up.
still time to comment! ooh Spoon are very high now although I much prefer Hot Thoughts. Good moves for The Money War, Lorde, Big Sean, Stormzy, Methyl Ethel and Jamiroquai.
It hasn't happened often this year but this week there is a new #1 in town. Having previously scored a top 20 hit last year, Gang Of Youths have gone all the way in 2017 with their track "What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?" climbing to the top spot. If you're thinking to yourself that it's quite a mouthful of a title, I'm here to say that it is not the longest title that a #1 has ever had. Depending on whether or not you count spaces, it's the 2nd longest, with the longest either being "Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)" or "Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings". Nonetheless, it's also the first #1 hit in quite a while, the last one being Gretta Ray's "Drive", which got there by knocking off another song that ended a lengthy drought for Australian #1s. I'm not saying that'll necessarily happen again, but she does have "Towers" climbing up to #3. Inbetween these two songs is Run The Jewels' now former #1 "Thursday In The Danger Room". Spoon hold at #4 with "Can I Sit Next To You", while Methyl Ethel finish off the top 5 with "Ubu", continuing to judge you for your hygiene. There's one change in the top 10 this week and it brings in The Money War's "Stars". The band have only first charted this year and this is their first top 10 hit.
NEW ENTRIES
Depending on your demographic, there's a chance that the big release of the week was Drake's new playlist "More Life". Drake has been relatively absent from the chart of late, so this is his first time debuting in a little over a year, "Views" is not very good. But "More Life" has a bit more going for it. Largely thanks to the fact that worthwhile guests haven't been shunted for more Drake, but that's not to say he's not doing his part either. Case in point with the top debut predictably being "Passionfruit". It makes for his 10th chart entry to date, and surprisingly with its #16 debut, his 2nd highest charter behind only "Hotline Bling". In a similar sense, depending on your demographic, it might be big news that there's been quite a bit of Gorillaz news this week. This has been quite a long time coming and I do not begrudge you if you cannot recall a Gorillaz era on my chart. As a matter of fact, they had 5 chart entries all up just in 2010, and who's to say they couldn't repeat that when all 4 of their new songs are to my liking. For the time being, they just have one debut, the Vince Staples-assisted "Ascension" at #21. Back to Drake! I am in this instance a very predictable and obvious person, so like many others, my other highlight is "Get It Together", which features Black Coffee and also Jorja Smith, who had a #35 hit in "Blue Lights" about a year ago. "Get It Together" is in at #26 and makes for 11 Drake entries. Now for some chart veterans who've been absent for a little while. I'm talking about Cold War Kids who have an interesting distinction of being regular charters, but have never had two debuts in the same year. They started with "Something Is Not Right With Me" in 2008, and now have 6 entries courtesy of new track "So Tied Up", which also features Bishop Briggs though not very prominently. "So Tied Up" is in at #31. Lastly, we've got Father John Misty in again with another entry from his upcoming album that got leaked ages ago but I haven't heard it yet. It's perhaps my favourite song that insinuates having sex with Taylor Swift, there's context to it I swear. "Total Entertainment Forever" debuts at #34, giving him 6 entries to date.

I wasn't that into Ascension so I hope some of those other Gorillaz tunes can make your top 40 too. Passionfruit is definitely cool stuff however. Pity Not A Fighter is starting to slip but at least Green Light and Slide are moving up.
Naturally at this time of the year I so quickly fall behind with new music, but I at least have heard the Gorillaz songs. To that end, I like Ascension more than the others so yay! Passionfruit is an excellent debut and hopefully it has a nice run for you. Also I should give Laura Marling's album a go. wd Gang of Youths
It's a 2nd week at the top now for Gang Of Youths' "What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?". We now also have an all Australian top 2 with Gretta Ray's "Towers" climbing to #2. Run The Jewels move down a spot to #3, while Laura Marling enters the top 5 with "Always This Way" at #4. Spoon finish off this section with "Can I Sit Next To You" at #5, down from #4. There are strong moves from some of last week's debuts, with the biggest jump appropriately going to Gorillaz's "Ascension" up 7 places to #14.
NEW ENTRIES
All up it's been a busy few weeks for debuts, which continues with another 5 in now. The first of the lot is the most recently released, but it's fair to say that it was quick to make a strong impression. Kendrick Lamar is taking us on a wild ride with newly debuting "HUMBLE." at #8, adding to his hefty tally to make for 13 chart enries. But let's not stop on 13, and rather go straight for 14. I've not got long to get my shit together, as noted on "The Heart Part 4" which comes in at #22. Here's a name that's been long absent from the chart. It was way back in 2011 when Joe Goddard briefly popped in with the rather sublime in hindsight "Gabriel". He's gotten a fair bit higher now with his 2nd ever solo entry, "Home" at #26. Time to repeat some more artists in the chart, as we have a Gorillaz debut for a 2nd week in a row. This time it's "Andromeda" which features D.R.A.M. who last had a hit here with "Broccoli" last year. For Gorillaz, this brings their tally up to 7 as they debut at #29. Lastly, it's Lastlings. They've had a bit of action just below the chart, but now they're fortunate enough to sneak in for the first time. "Urges" is a #39 debut.

Quality debutts in Kendrick and Gorillaz. Amazed to see Towers doing so well! Nice to see Passionfruit, Milky Chance, Clavin, London, Laura Marling and Fracture! I've had that Fleet Foxes track on my "to listen list" for a few weeks, I need to get around that.
The debutts this week are pretty great for sure Not sure which Kendrick track I prefer, I'll have to wait for my AP to know that. But both are good. Andromeda and Urges are even better. Good improvements for Passionfruit, Good Day and Slide, but shame to see Green Light is already on the way down.
The K-dot debuts are in the right order obvs. Home is nice too Really hope Gang of Youths can outlast the Gretta Ray song I haven't bothered to hear yet
Well what would you know, it's new #1 time. And it's a case of deja vu, befitting of the week that J. Cole scored yet another platinum album with no features. How so? Well as I alluded to in previous commentary, last year we had a case of a long drought broken at the top for Australian #1s, which in fact would see two consecutive Australian #1s. And the peculiar case about it is that last year that second one was by Gretta Ray. Wouldn't you know it? She's done it again. "Towers" has become her second #1 hit after "Drive", achieving this with just 3 chart entries under her belt. Not the first time that's happened on this chart, so does that make her the aquatic counterpart for a certain perpetually out of action owl? Well who's more worthy of the aquatic tag is something that could be debated. What cannot be debated is that Gang Of Youths are certainly down to #2 this week, Laura Marling I'm quite positive hits a new peak of #3, forcing down Run The Jewels to #4. Finishing off the top 5 is Kendrick Lamar, who having debuted at #8 last week with "HUMBLE.", now sees a #5 peak, which I believe is his 4th song to get this high. Drake has also climbed into the top 10 with "Passionfruit", only his 2nd ever song to do so, but maybe there's more where that came from as "Get It Together" continues to climb within the top 20.
NEW ENTRIES
Another busy week, it was stacked with quality new releases for me, not to mention slightly older songs that have bubbled into here. The first debut is not one of those, but one that's been anticipated for quite a while, because unlike Kendrick, Melody's Echo Chamber seemingly stuck to the previously announced release date. It's also been a long wait because she's not released anything since "Shirim" in late 2014, which was a top 10 hit for me. All of this anticipation is off the back of my adoration of her self-titled album, and this newest release can only leave me more excited. "Cross My Heart" is an incredibly ambitious odyssey of sorts, complete with flute solo because that's the thing of 2017 I guess? "Cross My Heart" makes a big debut at #6 to give Melody her 2nd ever entry, and 2nd ever top 10 peaker. Now for a track that's getting quite a bit of buzz lately for good reason. Billie Eilish is something of a prodigy it would seem, and possibly the youngest ever person to reach my chart. It took a little while to sink in for me, but now I'm fully in support of "Bellyache" as it debuts at #20 this week. Now for an artist that's not been seen in some time, but that's normal behaviour for them. I'm talking about Husky! Their first ever entry was a big one with "The Woods" going on to be a 7 week #1 back at the start of 2012. They wouldn't chart again until seeing moderate success with "I'm Not Coming Back" in 2014. Now with almost the exact same length of time between debuts again, they see a 3rd ever entry with "Ghost" at #26. Next up is an artist that is pretty new to me though I feel I've seen the name elsewhere before. Talking in this case about Grace Mitchell who sees her first ever chart action with newly released "Now" jumping straight into the chart at #33. Now for a band that have been absent for a while, ∆! Oh I've missed doing that. Anyhow, despite their status, they've only been able to rack up minor hits on my chart thus far, with "Breezeblocks" reaching #28 and "Hunger Of The Pine" reaching #29. Will "3WW" fare any better? Perhaps the fact that Ellie from Wolf Alice is on it will give them that lucky boost, but nonetheless it's their 3rd entry to date as it comes in at #37.

I can say I like Towers, although not as much as Drive or Unwind. I assume it'll grow though. Bellyache and Now are both good and 3WW was alright iirc. Nice to see HUMBLE. into the top 5, Passionfruit into the top 10 and moves for Big For Your Boots, The Heart Part 4, Andromeda, Slide and Urges as well. Last edited:
DAMN. Suffice to say that I got my shit together for good reason on Friday, and ended up listening to nothing but Kendrick all day. It's through this that we have a new #1 this week as "HUMBLE." shoots to the top in its 3rd week. This is Kendrick's 2nd ever #1, and he's so all over the chart this week that he also claims the #2 spot with "LUST." but more on that later. Gretta Ray can perhaps be considered lucky to have gotten to the top spot in time as "Towers" now slips down to #3. It's such an incredibly tight week that it almost pains me to only have Melody's Echo Chamber" at #4 with "Cross My Heart". Finishing off the top 5 is the always fitting in Laura Marling with "Always This Way". Gorillaz have also climbed into the top 10 this week with "Ascension", which is their 3rd ever top 10 hit after "Rhinestone Eyes" and "Doncamatic". I'd also like to note that this is an especially fresh chart, with all the remaining 2016 debutants ousted, the oldest song in the chart now is "Ubu" having charted for a ripe time of 12 weeks.
NEW ENTRIES
It's nearly all about Kendrick this week as he put out yet another insanely good album. The song in particular that got the most attention from me was "LUST.", a dour sounding tune produced by BADBADNOTGOOD with some impeccable beat switching. It's a significant debut not just because it's all the way up at #2, but because it gives Kendrick his 15th ever charting entry, which ties him with Birds of Tokyo and Muse for most ever entries. Did I say ties? Because why not just give Kendrick the record outright as he has another debut up next. Seemingly the fan favourite at the moment, it's the huge banger that is "DNA." coming in at #14. This is Kendrick's 16th ever entry and thus the most out of anyone, all of this achieved in just over 4 years. But wait, there's more! Perhaps the most baffling one in concept because I don't think anyone expected it. There aren't many credited features on "DAMN.", and the most bizarre of the lot would be on track 11, which features none other than U2. But rather than be something to groan at, it serves as a reminder of how U2 were once a very politically charged band. Also those police sirens just oh mah gahd. "XXX." debuts at #27 and is Kendrick's 17th ever entry, and this is the first time ever charting for U2. But wait I have other artists here as well. Considering what I noted earlier in the commentary, it's somewhat ironic that this next song is actually from 2016, though it's just recently been released on an album. US singer Alexandra Savior gets her first ever entry with "Shades" at #32. Lastly it's a long time coming back into the chart for Little Dragon. They've been persistent in attempts to break into the chart post-"Wildfire", including having one of the biggest hits on this chart ever to miss the top 40. Now they've finally got a solo entry to their name as "Sweet" sneaks in at #36.

I guess it was pretty much inevitable that Kendrick would get to #1. I haven't gotten around to hearing any of those Kendrick tracks that have debuted, but I can definitely say it's great to see Sweet making it in! Ascension and Big For Your Boots have been growing on me so good to see them with improvements, while I also like seeing moves for Passionfruit, Bellyache, Andromeda, Now and 3WW.
Nice to see Drake, Alt-J and Fleeties up. I know all the debuts already, surely a first and as for the order of Kendrick debuts... I'll just say I like all of those ones Yay HUMBLE. though. holy crap Shades <3 SWEET YAS.
Once again it's Kung Fu Kenny ruling the top slots of the chart, but it's a bit different this week. Namely the order of those slots has changed, with "LUST." moving up a spot to take the top. In the space of a fortnight, Kendrick has tripled his count of #1 hits, and I recommend not extrapolating that. This means that "HUMBLE." is down to #2. Moving up a spot to #3 is Melody's Echo Chamber with "Cross My Heart", swapping with Gretta Ray's "Towers" at #4. Laura Marling continues to hold in the top 5 with "Always This Way". The top two isn't all that Kendrick is busy with though, he in fact has the two biggest climbers of the week. Most notably "DNA." moving up 7 places to #7 giving him a 9th top 10 hit. Perhaps it would be appropriate if his 10th came with the song whose name is all 10's in Roman numerals? It's auspicious that "XXX." climbs up 11 places to #16.
NEW ENTRIES
It's a mix of new and old faces this week. Coming out on top is a new track from Mac Demarco. He's had steady success in the past with previous top 40 entries "Passing Out Pieces" and "Another One", but now "On The Level" enters at #18 which is his first ever top 20 hit. Next up is the only track this week to get an instant debut, the others being climbers from recent weeks. It comes from UK singer/songwriter Lucy Rose, whose "Is This Called Home" stood out as profoundly artful in composition to me, and nets a #26 debut. She's missed her chance to perform at any presidential inaugurations in the near future, but George Maple does not lack determination, and has released quite the tune under the name "Kryptonite". All up including features under various names, this is her 5th time in the chart, and her first time back since her What So Not collaboration "Gemini" 2 years ago. Next up is a bit of a more recent name, in fact they're so recent that their first ever chart entry came in just a month before George Maple's last one. I am of course talking about Tired Lion who continue to rack up the hits, though they're still yet to reach top 10 glory. Could this be their moment? "Cinderella Dracula" is their 5th entry to date at #33. Lastly another debutant, but just like the last two entries, it's one from Australia. I don't know very much about Sloan Peterson though I suspect that's not her real name because it's suspiciously similar to that of a character from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Her first single "105" is getting airplay apparently though I've not yet caught it on the radio myself, but it's quite good, and enters at #37.

I really should listen to LUST. and XXX. but for now I can say I do quite enjoy DNA. so pleased to see that move up. I was wondering if Kryptonite was close to charting for you, I'm very pleased that it debuted this week. Good rises for Ascension, Bellyache, Andromeda and Now.
gooo Kenny. LUST. is a grower but definitely would have preferred HUMBLE. to stick around longer. Yay for the other two moving up also. Alexandra Savior, Fleeties, Alt-J and Little Dragon getting new peaks is sweet. Haven't heard that Mac tune but hopefully it's better than the last one
This time around, Kendrick is able to maintain the top spot, so "LUST." makes 2 weeks at #1. There's a different contender on the rise though, with Melody's Echo Chamber up to #2 with "Cross My Heart". So "HUMBLE." slides down a spot to #3, meeting up with "Towers" which remains at #4. Climbing into the top 5 this week is "DNA." This means that Kendrick has 3 tracks in the top 5, which hasn't happened since Muse achieved the feat in 2009. If that's not enough, he also has "XXX." up to #10 which is his 10th top 10 hit, and U2's first. I suspect this is also a record that only Muse has achieved, when they had "Uprising", "Unnatural Selection", "Resistance" and "United States Of Eurasia" all in the top 10 for a week in 2009. Potentially on the way to the top 10, Billie Eilish is up to #11 and Mac Demarco is up to #13, for both artists this is as high as they've ever charted.
NEW ENTRIES
On the topic of artists accumulating multiple top 5 & top 10 hits in a short space of time, here's an artist we've not seen on the chart in quite a few years. I'm talking about Icelandic singer-songwriter Ásgeir, who picked up three big top 10 hits in short succession in 2014. He's not charted since, until now. Latest track "Afterglow" has really struck a chord with me, and gives him his 4th ever entry at #15. Actually it's a bit of a similar case with our next artist. Much more recently, Sampa The Great collected some big hits at the start of last year, most notably top 5 hits "Black Dignity" and "Second Heartbeat". After roughly a year of absence, she's back with a new single "Everybody's Hero". Intriguingly, it seems to feature Estelle of "American Boy" fame, though I haven't yet been able to work out where she appears in the song. Nonetheless, it's a new entry at #21 this week, and the 4th entry overall for Sampa. Next up it's a newbie to the chart. The newest track from Benjamin Booker really caught my ear when I heard it, reminding me of some stuff like former #2 hit "Summer Waiting" by The Novocaines. I love a visceral rock track and "Right On You" comes in at #30. Lastly we have what is probably my favourite track from the new Goldfrapp album. They recently charted with lead single "Anymore" at #30, this time around it's the final track on the album, "Ocean", which enters at #33. This is the 4th Goldfrapp song to chart.

Thursday In The Danger Room (feat Kamasi Washington) {6 Weeks @ #1}
It's been 3 weeks and I still need some water. "LUST." continues to reign supreme. Melody's Echo Chamber also holds the #2 spot and becomes the oddity in the top 4 for not being a Kendrick song. As it were, "DNA." climbs to #3 and "HUMBLE." shifts down to #4. Finishing the top 5 this week is Gretta Ray's "Towers", down from #4 last week. We've got two songs jumping into the top 10 this week. The first is Ásgeir's "Afterglow", which continues his perfect run of top 10 entries, as it's his 4th. Also moving into the top 10 is the debut hit for Billie Eilish, with "Bellyache" up 1 spot to #10.
NEW ENTRIES
A lot can change in a week. My last chart felt outdated pretty quickly just because this next song wasn't on it. In that short time, I've really become enamoured by Lil Uzi Vert's "XO TOUR Llif3", which is something of a surprise considering the last time I mentioned him in my commentary was to make fun of him. There's not much in the way of 'fun' here with what is one of the most confronting current hits. It's his first time charting, and in all the way up at #14. Now we've got something of an iconic artist returning to the chart as they tend to on a semi-regular basis. I am this time talking about LCD Soundsystem, who've made a very pleasant surprise with releasing two new singles. I've thus far only heard "call the police" but it's proven very rewarding, particularly as it reminds me a lot of "All My Friends". This is the group's 3rd charting single after 2010's "I Can Change" and 2015's "Christmas Will Break Your Heart". By entering at #19, it's their highest charting track ever. We had a flashback to 2008 last week with Estelle charting, and now it's happening again in an even more unexpected way. Entering the chart this week is "Nobody" by Niia, who you might recall for featuring on Wyclef Jean's "Sweetest Girl (Dollar Bill)" all those years ago. Not that you'd be able to figure that out by ear at all, we've got quite a forward-thinking pop track on our hands here. "Nobody" is Niia's first ever entry, in at #24 this week. Another returning artist to the chart now, we've got Sløtface with a new single. The band charted late last year with a big top 5 hit in "Empire Records", and now they've struck gold again with new single "Magazine" being a bundle of fun. Debuting at #29, it's their 2nd ever entry. A bit of an exceedingly hyped up artist at the moment, but I'll always appreciate when I can get down with someone who's probably gonna get a major push at some point. This time around I'm talking about Ruby Fields, whose first single "I Want" very quickly took the triple j sphere by storm. It has a peculiarness to it in that it really reminds me of a certain artist, it's in at #37. While I continue to dwell on who that particular artist it reminds me of, we've lastly got a debut for Ali Barter, her first entry since releasing her debut album earlier this year. It would seem that "Please Stay" is getting the single push at the moment, but I'm hoping "The Captain" will get some attention later. It's her 4th entry to date and in at #39.

Thursday In The Danger Room (feat Kamasi Washington) {6 Weeks @ #1}
The rise for Stardust is so amazing. I love it! Yay for Laura Marling, George Maple, Kendrick and Drake too. I was wondering if Leisure Suite has made any progress or nah? Also let me know if you've gotten around to Thinking of a Place
Would be cool to see Cross My Heart and/or DNA. reach the top. Great to see call the police and Nobody debut. Bellyache pushing its way into the top 10 is brilliant too. But a shame that Kryptonite is already losing momentum.
Settling into a staircase of non-movers at the moment. For a 4th week we've got "LUST." at #1, while "Cross My Heart" has its 3rd week at #2. "DNA." also holds at #3, while we have a new mover into the top 5, Asgeir's "Afterglow" at #4, which is his 4th song to reach the top 5. Finishing off the top 5 is of course another Kendrick song in "HUMBLE.". We've also got a new song joining the top 10 this week, in its 4th week on the chart, Mac Demarco's "On The Level" has moved up to #9 to give him his first ever top 10 hit. Also chasing their first top 10 hits are Lil Uzi Vert, LCD Soundsystem & Tired Lion. Making a big jump up the chart this week is Sløtface's debut from last week, "Magazine" is up 10 places to #19.
NEW ENTRIES
A chart regular in recent years now, WAAX have put out another quality single and I'm quick to get behind it. I tend to pair the band with Tired Lion as they've both been picking up hits at about the same pace, though WAAX have tended to chart a bit higher. They've now matched up again at 5 entries a piece as WAAX enter at #21 with "Wild & Weak". Next up is a bit of a longer return, in fact the last time this band was on the chart, WAAX had yet to have their debut entry. I'm of course talking about The National, who have had respectable success this decade. With their new single "The System Only Dreams In Total Darkness", they've now got 6 chart entries to their name, this one coming in at #24. It's now a return to our favourite microgenre, obscure female singers from New Zealand who pop up on Spotify's New Music Friday playlist. This one is slightly less obvious because the name & song give the impression of a band, nonetheless Fazerdaze is tapping my sort of territory with her hazey garage rock. "Misread" comes in at #29. Lastly it's another return to the chart, and from a band who have been gone even longer than The National. This honour goes to Royal Blood, who put out a debut album in 2014 that I enjoyed quite a lot. Their most recent chart entry was actually a #1 hit in "Ten Tonne Skeleton", but now they pick up a 3rd entry with "Lights Out" at #37.

LUST. has become much more respected for me now, just love it. Good to see Lil Uzi Vert and XXX. move up, and decent debuts for WAAX, The National and Royal Blood. 3WW's lack of recognition on this site tho
I've been hard at work on an older EOY, and perhaps as a result of it, we've got a fair bit of stability at the top, the most in some 6 years. The whole top 7 is the same as last week, giving "LUST." a 5th week at #1, "Cross My Heart" a 4th week at #2, "DNA." a 3rd week at #3, followed by "Afterglow" and "HUMBLE." at #4 & #5 respectively. The top 10 isn't all dullsville though, we've got two new songs joining in this week. Firstly it's the huge breakout success of Lil Uzi Vert's "XO TOUR Llif3" which climbs up 2 places to #9, and it's followed by Sampa The Great who gets her 3rd top 10 hit to date with "Everybody's Hero" at #10.
NEW ENTRIES
Welcome to remnants of songs from last week partly because I was too lazy to listen to new music this week (I really just wanted to finish DR2). So now to introduce my new four dark devas of destruction, we're starting with something of a familiar face. In fact you might recall that back in 2015, Ainslie Wills scored a #1 hit with the beautiful "Constellations". After a slight absence, she's back in the chart this week with the similarly lovely "Running Second". This is I believe her 3rd entry to date and it's in at #20. Just like last week we've got one newbie to the chart this week, though it's actually a more recognisable name this time around. Since Muse can't deliver the goods, we've got to hand it off to their low key imitators. What I'm trying to say is that after some flashes of quality on their first album, Nothing But Thieves have really come up with the goods on their newest single "Amsterdam". Reaching the chart for the first time ever, they're in at #23. Please return his heart if you see it villages. I am of the opinion that the best songs on Flume's most recent album are the ones that feature Kučka on vocals. This next entry comes in all pandering glory as it also features Kučka, so "Hyperreal" debuts at #32. For Flume this is his 6th entry, and for Kučka it's her 4th, all but 1 being as a featured artist. Lastly, it's an artist so familiar that they're still already in the chart. I'm talking about Goldfrapp who score yet another entry from their most recent album with "Moon In Your Mouth". It's their 3rd entry this year and 5th overall, entering at #36.

Thursday In The Danger Room (feat Kamasi Washington) {6 Weeks @ #1}
Hyperreal! Brilliant to see it make it in. Still hoping Cross My Heart or DNA. can get to the top. I see the top of your chart has become stuck, not that dissimilar to my chart last week. At least call the police and Nobody are making good improvements.
Hyperreal! Wasn't overly impressed on first listen by Running Second but won't give up on it. Nice moves for Royal Blood, The National and WAAX. LUST. is sensational and yass Lil Uzi Vert in the top 10!
We have a new #1 this week! It comes from Melody's Echo Chamber with the blissful "Cross My Heart". It replaces "LUST." which after 5 weeks at #1, falls back to #2. "DNA." & "Afterglow" still hold their places at #3 & #4, while jumping into the top 5 this week is Sampa The Great's "Everybody's Hero". Otherwise, the top 10 on the whole is unchanged this week, with plenty of contenders knocking on the door.
NEW ENTRIES
I like the new Beach House song and in other news the sky is blue. Newly released "The Chariot" is a previously unreleased song recorded during the "Depression Cherry" sessions and is on an upcoming compilation. Coming in at #21, it's their 8th song to chart to date. They've been in the chart rather recently, but just like with their last album, Δ are chucking out new singles frequently. With new track "Adeline", they have a chance at reaching new heights as it comes through at #29, their 4th entry to date. This last one sounds a bit strange, but we've actually got a new song from, of all people, the boss of XL Recordings, Richard Russell. Under the moniker Everything is Recorded, he's recently released an EP, which features the rather captivating "Close But Not Quite" which features a great performance from Sampha. It's Sampha's 2nd time in the chart, and it's in at #33.

Run The Jewels
Thursday In The Danger Room (feat Kamasi Washington) {6 Weeks @ #1}
Stability at the top this time, Melody's Echo Chamber gets a 2nd week with "Cross My Heart". Kendrick Lamar still has the rest of the top 3, with "LUST." at #2 and "DNA." at #3. Moving up is Sampa The Great, who gets her highest ever lead artist track with "Everybody's Hero" at #4, moving "Afterglow" down to #5. Two tracks jump into the top 10 this week, firstly Ainslie Wills with "Running Second", incidentally her 2nd top 10 hit to date. There's also LCD Soundsystem who get their first ever top 10 hit with "call the police" at #10.
NEW ENTRIES
Big week for debuts, considering that 3 of these artists have had EOY #1s. In fact this first artist has had 2 of them. I'm of course talking about ABBArcade Fire and their new track "Everything Now", which shoots in at #19. This is their 7th chart entry, and their first since 2013. Following up their top 10 success, LCD Soundsystem have another entry now, the accompanied "american dream" which comes in at #26, their 4th entry to date. Now for a song that is about as long as those last two put together, which aren't particularly short songs in that sense. It's the infamous "Thinking Of A Place" from Sun Kil Moon enthusiasts The War On Drugs, coming in at #32. This is their 3rd entry to date. Lastly is the one artist without an EOY #1, but let's be fair they've got some big hits coming up when I get to the appropriate year. It's a slightly belated debut for At The Drive-In's photogenic "Incurably Innocent" at #34.

Run The Jewels
Thursday In The Danger Room (feat Kamasi Washington) {6 Weeks @ #1}
Not so keen on Thinking Of A Place but Everything Now has impressed me quickly. Great to see it straight into the top 20! Yay XO TOUR Llif3, call the police and Hyperreal.
INCURABLY INNOCENT SLAY. Great to see Arcade Fire in and I like Thinking Of A Place even if it isn't my favourite recent TWOD song. Good moves for Everything Is Recorded, Goldfrapp, WAAX, Beach House, The National and Flume.
3rd week at the top for Melody's Echo Chamber. Kendrick still holds up high with "LUST." at #2, while jumping up this week is Ainslie Wills, whose "Running Second" is running second in the running for running second. In other words she's #3 this week. "DNA." slips down a spot to #4, and "Everybody's Hero" sits at #5. Climbing into the top 10 this week is Sløtface and their song "Magazine", their 2nd top 10 hit after last year's "Empire Records".
NEW ENTRIES
Last week we had my favourite Canadians debuting at #19 and wouldn't you know we've got a similar case this week. I'm noted as something of a Metric fan, and in lieu of new music from them, we've instead got new music from Emily Haines' solo project. "Fatal Gift" is very much in my wheelhouse and comes in at #19. London Grammar recently released their 2nd album and it's a little bit of a mixed bag. A lot of their recent singles haven't really grabbed me, but the latest, "Everyone Else" is doing a bit better for me. This follows them scoring a top 10 hit earlier in the year with "Rooting For You", and now they're up to 5 entries with "Everyone Else" debuting at #24. Having charted slightly more recently is King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, but in saying that, their last entry was a full album ago. Now they're got a 2nd album this year out this month, and "The Lord Of Lightning" sounds peculiarly like an offcut from "Nonagon Infinity", not a bad thing by my books. "The Lord Of Lightning" is their 2nd ever entry, in at #35. This week we say goodbye to "Ghost" by Husky, but all is good because they've got a replacement this week. "Splinters In The Fire" debuts at #38 and is their 4th entry ever.

What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out? {1 Weeks @ #1}
This week we have a new #1. It's something of an old face in that department, as Ainslie Wills picks up her 2nd #1 hit with "Running Second", up 2 places from #3 last week. This is the 2nd time an Australian track has hit the top spot this year, following "Towers". Melody's Echo Chamber goes back down to #2, while Kendrick's "LUST." is down to #3. Lil Uzi Vert has now moved up into the top 5 with "XO TOUR Llif3" up two places to #4, while Kendrick can celebrate his birthday with still two tracks in the top 5, as "DNA." finishes at #5. We've also got two new tracks entering the top 10 this week. First off is a big first time entry for Nothing But Thieves, whose "Amsterdam" is now up 4 places to #7, while on the other hand we have familiar territory for Arcade Fire. "Everything Now" is up 5 places to #9, which gives them a 5th top 10 hit.
NEW ENTRIES
It's another week of generally familiar faces in the debuts, many of them with the same amount of chart experience. Leading the pack this week is Manchester Orchestra, who have a habit of getting a new chart entry every few years. They're consistent hitmakers though, as all 3 of their previous chart entries reached the top 10, the highest being the #2 peaker "I've Got Friends". We now see if they can do it for a 4th time as "The Gold" enters at #24. Now for another band getting their 4th entry, though having done it much more quickly, we have The War On Drugs. They haven't been absent from the chart lately as "Thinking Of A Place" also resides in the top 30 at the moment, but they add to their collection with "Holding On" jumping in at #25. More of a new face, though not her first time in the chart. We have Pixx who regularly pops up on my Spotify horizons with songs I like. Most notably of these was her song "Grip" which reached #34 back in October last year. She may have new heights in sight as "Waterslides" instantly reaches that same #34 position. Lastly, we have Royal Blood returning for a second innings for this year. Lead off single "Lights Out" reached #35 recently, but perhaps they can do better with "Hook, Line and Sinker". I've not yet listened to their new album so maybe there's more quality waiting in the wings, but their 4th entry to date lands at #37.

What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out? {1 Weeks @ #1}
I'm still waiting for an Aussie #1 since The Trouble With Us. Counting on KLP to end the drought for me Have yet to hear the new #1 but I'm liking the rises for XO TOUR Llif3, Everything Now and Hyperreal.
Holding On is good! not totally sold on your #1 but I will relisten. Great to see Everything Now get top 10 pretty quickly; hoping it goes higher of course. Also cool on the Beach House, The National, Flume, King Gizzard, Husky and ATDI fronts.
It's another one of those weeks where the top sits still while the business continues below. No we don't have The Avalanches at #1, but we do have another Australian artist beginning with the letter A as Ainslie Wills spends an apt second week at the top with "Running Second". Following her we have Melody's Echo Chamber, who has not yet followed up "Cross My Heart" so it's all I've got at this stage. Kendrick Lamar holds the #3 slot with "LUST.", having spent all of its 11 week run in the top 3, while Lil Uzi Vert is also steady at #4 with "XO TOUR Llif3" despite having a weird title. Bringing the Rawk Hawk to the top 5 this week is Nothing But Thieves, whose "Amsterdam" is up 2 places to #5. We also have two newbies to the top 10 though they're far from strangers in this instance. Although I guess if you're the kind of person who'd say CeeLo Green is a one hit wonder twice, then you'd say that this is the first time that Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton have been in the top 10, with "Fatal Gift" up 4 places to #7. But of course I would rather acutely note that she's also been in these reaches a further 5 times with Metric between 2009 and 2012. Now with less of a technicality, we also have Beach House climbing up 4 places to #10 with "Chariot". This is the 6th time they've done Baltimore proud, having scored their first top 10 back in 2012. Also making a big move this week is The War On Drugs, whose "Holding On" shoots up 10 places to #15.
NEW ENTRIES
For the first time in a while, this is a good week for songs that people have actually heard. Most notably the top debut which is currently smashing into all the charts. It means for the first time ever, I welcome DJ Khaled to the chart, though he did previously bubble under with "Holy Key" and "Do You Mind" last year. But thanks to the combination of an excellent Santana sample, Rihanna being generally awesome & Bryson Tiller referencing an Adam Sandler movie, which is obviously never a bad thing, "Wild Thoughts" debuts big at #21. Oddly enough, this is the first time Rihanna has charted as a featured artist, but it's her 4th entry overall. Next up is a history defining moment, as it would appear to be the first time that Manchester Orchestra have charted two songs from the same album, as usually they never get past the lead single. But nonetheless, right after last week's debut for "The Gold", they've put out another indefinite article song in "The Alien" which has also been quick to impress. It enters one place lower than "The Gold" did last week, at #25 and is the band's 5th ever chart entry. Next up we've had a band who've been out of action for a while, but now they're back with enough gusto that I can proudly proclaim my chart to be USDA certified lean. I'm of course talking about The Killers, who despite not including an ill-advised Elton John sample, have struck gold with "The Man", in at #28 this week. The last time they were seen on the chart was with 2013's "Shot At The Night", and this gives them their 7th entry to date. Another newbie to the chart, and it's yet another big pop hit that expertly samples a previous one. This time around I'm talking about the best bassline in the charts courtesy of Talking Heads via Selena Gomez. Unlike DJ Khaled, Selena has never been on my chart radar previously, though I do have a soft spot for "Love You Like A Love Song" among others. Nonetheless, between this & "It Ain't Me", she's been a force of good on the charts this year, and "Bad Liar" enters at #33 this week. Lastly we're back to typical affair as Husky notch up yet another chart entry from their latest album. This time it doesn't quite come at expense of their previous one, which hangs on at #40 this week. "Shark Fin" enters at #37, giving the band their 5th entry, which is not bad considering that they spent 2.5 years as a one hit wonder.
It's now 3 weeks on the top for Ainslie Wills with "Running Second". Holding at #2 is "Cross My Heart", which has been in the top 2 for 10 weeks now, the longest time spent for any song since "The Blacker The Berry", get well soon Melody :/ Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton continue to climb with "Fatal Gift" now up 4 places to #3, while Nothing But Thieves also find space for a new peak of #4 for "Amsterdam". Lastly in the top 5 is Kendrick's "LUST.". The top 10 this week is relatively stable however, no new tracks in, and the only other new peak is Beach House's "Chariot" up to #9. There's plenty of potential waiting in the wings, with new top 20 peaks for The War On Drugs, Manchester Orchestra & DJ Khaled. With "Wild Thoughts" at #15, this is the highest that Rihanna has ever charted.
NEW ENTRIES
It's an all female week. Well, at least in the lead vocals, with the only non-solo entry this week coming from Middle Kids. Under certain circumstances, I belatedly came across a track from their EP they released earlier this year. "Old River" comes in at #26 and is already their 2nd highest charter, behind only of course, their #1 hit "Edge Of Town". All up, they have 4 chart entries to their name. That Lorde album is pretty good, hey? She had top 20 success earlier this year with "Green Light", now she returns to the chart at #31 with "Perfect Places". This is her 8th track to chart to date. Carly Rae Jepsen has become something of a chart regular in recent times, having first charted in 2015 with "Run Away With Me". The E-MO-TION train just keeps on giving in different forms however, and now we get another song written initially for that album, with "Cut To The Feeling" in at #34. This is her 4th charting entry to date. This is an unpopular opinion, but I am not reviled by the Katy Perry album. If I spent more time with it, I could probably find more tracks to potentially chart, but at this stage, I have taken an odd liking to the track "Hey Hey Hey", which is to say that my love has not been overly secret. So next to all these artists who have only been in the spotlight for a handful of years, the one I've known for nearly a decade is the sole debutant artist to the chart this week, at #37.
I can't remember if that Katy Perry song is the one I heard in New Music Friday a few weeks ago or not But Perfect Places and Cut To The Feeling are debuts I can certainly endorse. Good to see Wild Thoughts move up.
For fear of being ostracised from the website I may give Carly Rae's new one another go Hooray for TWOD, Selena Gomez, Beach House and The Killers all moving in the right direction and good to see Perfect Places debut too.
It's 4 weeks running for "Running Second" at the #1 spot. In the spirit of running second, we have Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton's "Fatal Gift" running up to #2. Melody's Echo Chamber have "Cross My Heart" at #3, while the rest of the top 5 stand still: Nothing But Thieves at #4, and Kendrick Lamar at #5. Newly entering the top 10 this week is The War On Drugs with "Holding On", their 2nd ever top 10 hit, while Manchester Orchestra get their 4th with "The Gold".
NEW ENTRIES
A mostly fresh batch of artists with the new entries this week. Entering the chart for the first time is Cults, a band who in the past have made some glorious songs that have grown on me too late to ever make my chart. They're as quick as possible with their newly released "Offering" debuting at the #20 spot this week. Now as more of an oddity to show up on my radar, we have the debut entry for musician Lance Ferguson, who you might know as a member of The Bamboos, or perhaps as a former member of Cookin' On 3 Burners who co-wrote a little song called "This Girl". Actually there's more relevance to that because the vocalist on that song, Kylie Auldist" features on this new song, titled "2+1". It enters at #27. First time in the chart Haiku Hands' "Not About You" number 34 The sole returning artist to the chart this week is Queens Of The Stone Age, who haven't been seen on the chart since the days of "...Like Clockwork" in 2013. They get their 3rd ever chart entry with "The Way You Used To Do" at #39.
Haiku Hands Listening to it as I type this Quite a jump for Bad Liar this week, I hope it can reach the top 10. Lovely rises for Perfect Places and Cut To The Feeling also.
Fatal Gift is fascinating, and I'm an even bigger fan of Holding On. Other decent moves are Beach House, Selena, Killers and Lorde. QOTSA and Haiku Hands debuting in the same week is great and pretty funny
It's a new #1 this week. In its 6th week on the chart, "Fatal Gift" by Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton takes the top spot. This is the third time in a row that we've had solo female artists at #1, even if two of them wouldn't appear to be on basis of name. This also means that for the first time in its chart life, "Running Second" is running second. Moving up this week is Nothing But Thieves whose "Amsterdam" now sits at #3, swapping places with "Cross My Heart" at #4. Newly in the top 5 this week is The War On Drugs with "Holding On" up 3 places to #5. It's not the only action seen in the top 10, as Selena Gomez's "Bad Liar" continues the impressive pace week on week, now up another 8 places to #6.
NEW ENTRIES
One thing I thank Spotify's AU/NZ team is the fact that they do put me onto some New Zealand music that I'd otherwise never come across, with the exception of when they turn up on triple j in the ensuing weeks. Will that be the case again? I sure hope so because this week's top debut from Miloux is a delight, as should be expected of a top debut. But nonetheless, it recalls a time when mentioning the song "Paris" would be responded with mild confusion because most people haven't heard the Friendly Fires song. This particular "Paris" is in at #11. This week we have the partially awaited debut from Wolf Alice, who for my money which I frequently give them, are the best NME-core band of the moment. They've shown two different sides with their new releases this year, and perhaps one day we'll have both on display on this chart. For the time being, their chart action is limited to the dreamy "Don't Delete The Kisses" in at #26, their 5th ever chart entry. Hopefully it doesn't turn out THAT, IT, IS, NOT, MEANT, TO BE, on this chart. Just in time as her first entry is close to leaving the top 80, Billie Eilish has a new track. This time the menace is not just confined to the devilish lyrics, but to the composition, which exudes menace at times. "Copycat" is a new entry at #33, following her top 10 success with first entry "Bellyache" earlier this year. Lastly, for once it's not female vocals, and it's also a bit of a surprise to say that this is a debut for this artist. For the first time ever, I welcome Dizzee Rascal to my chart, who has had a difficult career to follow, but it seems like he's returning to the hunger of his earlier releases with this new track "Wot U Gonna Do?", which is utterly scatching and relentless. Makes for a good show though, and it's in at #35.
Copycat and Wot U Gonna Do? were decentish from memory. Nice movements for Bad >Liar , Wild Thoughts, 2+1, Cut To The Feeling, Not About You and Hey Hey Hey.
Fatal Gift was destined for #1 and it's growing on me. Also, Holding On (ngl I did leave out the 'g' when typing it first ) and Bad Liar are boss. Conversely I haven't heard that Miloux song as opposed to Friendly Fires whoa first ever Dizzee :O
Stability at the top of the chart this week. Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton's "Fatal Gift" retains the #1 position for a second week in a row, while "Running Second" continues to live up to its name at #2. Nothing But Thieves found their heart at #3 with "Amsterdam" staying put at its peak. Today is Jenny Duncan's birthday, and as such, her song "Bad Liar" now moves into the top 5 at #4. Also staying true to its name is The War On Drugs' "Holding On", which is retaining its top 5 slot at #5 thusly. After a strong debut last week, Miloux charges into the top 10 with "Paris" up to #6, while Manchester Orchestra are hard at work trying to keep their top 10 streak. "The Gold" continues to rise up at #7, but they also have "The Alien" not far behind at #11. Big rises also this week go to last week's debuts for Wolf Alice & Billie Eilish, and that's not the last we'll see of them.
NEW ENTRIES
In fact, this week's top debut goes to Billie Eilish, who's scored 2 debuts in 2 weeks. Showing to be ever eclectic, she's making a claim for best new artist 2017, with her scoring her 3rd entry this year with "idontwannabeyouanymore" at #22. It's sitting just behind "Copycat" which climbs up 12 places to #21 this week. Also scoring their 3rd entry to date, though having taken considerably longer to get to this point is Everything Everything. The band are working up a consistent pattern of getting an entry every two years, starting with "Cough Cough" in 2013, and then "Distant Past" in 2015. They may well be able to get their biggest hit to date as "Can't Do" debuts at #27, not far behind "Cough Cough"'s #23 peak. Released a few weeks ago, it has been made apparent that Jay-Z is back on form with his latest album "4:44". There's no shortage of potential entries among its tracklisting, but for the time being, we've got an entry from the lead off single "The Story Of O.J.". It keeps up Jay's affinity for a certain word in terms of his chart entries here as he has only previously charted with "Ni**as In Paris". His 2nd entry to date comes in at #31. Another artist who has been absent for a while with general diminishing returns to blame. Lana Del Rey made quite an entrance to the charts in 2011 with her first entry "Video Games" going all the way to #1, and quickly being followed by more top 10 hits. She hasn't charted since "West Coast" in 2014, though recent single "Love" did reach #60. I haven't gotten around to listening to the album yet, but I've taken a shine to the track "Summer Bummer", which features A$AP Rocky & Playboi Carti which all fits together better than it sounds on paper. Entering at #33, it's Lana's 6th entry to date, and Rocky's 5th. And it would seem the theme of the week is repeating artists from last week as after taking last week's top debut with "Don't Delete The Kisses", Wolf Alice have managed to break through with the previous single "Yuk Foo", which could hardly be any more different. Coming in at #38, it's their 6th chart entry to date.
well I know where I'm at with the two new Wolf Alice songs so I'm glad Yuk Foo is here! Can't Do is another solid EE track but perhaps not quite their best. Jay-Z / JAY Z / JAY-Z whatever, great that someone else is vibing on The Story Of O.J. here. Summer Bummer is interesting but I'm not totally sold on it and I can't remember if the Billie Ellish song was in my spotty playlist or not As for my faves, go Selena, Haiku Hands, Wolfy and The Killers moving up and hopefully Holding On isn't done just yet. I relistened to Running Second and it was decent but I prefer Fatal Gift for sure.
Have yet to hear new Lana but the Billie track was cool. Bad Liar moving up even further is crazy but cool, and I like what's happening with 2+1, Copycat, Cut To The Feeling and Not About You this week.
It's just another regular ordinary week especially up at the top of the chart where WAIT A MINUTE, we've actually got a debut right there. More to say later in the commentary when I get to it, but sitting at #1 is Jessie Ware's newest single "Midnight". It displaces the prior #1 "Fatal Gift" which is now down to #2. "Bad Liar" continues its stride to #3, while little known NZ artist Miloux reaches the sorts of heights only previously represented by the likes of Ladyhawke, Lorde & Unknown Mortal Orchestra, as "Paris" is up 2 places to #4. Also in that mysterious indie pop realm is another debut, this time Samsaruh with "Golden To Thrive". Thus we get our fill of rock with the bottom half of the top 10, notedly there's a climber in the form of Manchester Orchestra's "The Alien", giving them an impressive run of 5 top 10s from their 5 chart entries. Cults on the other hand are looking for their first, while Wolf Alice are not far away from their 4th. Billie Eilish simultaneously scores her 2nd and 3rd top 20 hits this week.
NEW ENTRIES
So yeah, it's a big week this week. In fact we've got an exclusively female selection of debuts this week, mostly artists who are at least somewhat familiar to these charts. Heading off this list is Jessie Ware, who has charted just once before as "Wildest Moments" briefly cracked the top 30 back in 2013. Since then she went on to unfortunately score her biggest hit with a bland Sheeran ballad I had no interest in. That's important believe it or not, because a common thread among my #1 debuts is that they typically come from artists whose new music I have been eagerly anticipating. They have not come from me picking up something from Spotify's New Music Friday playlist that I almost decided to give a miss. As it were, released just 2 days ago, we have the triumph that is "Midnight" finding a seat at the top of the charts. Not to be ignored as it's a rather impressive feat in its own right, we have our sole chart debutant this week, as Australian singer Samsaruh recently released her debut single "Golden To Thrive" which I was lucky enough to hear once on the radio and fall in love with it. So much so that it's all the way up at #5 this week. Now for the artist most familiar with the charts, we have Ecca Vandal scoring her 3rd chart entry to date. It comes in the form of "Broke Days, Party Nights", which I like to imagine is a just slightly more aggressive take on "Cheap Thrills" and is filled with all my favourite vocal accentuations from Ecca. It's a new entry at #22 this week. The next entry stands out in a way because though I may have stated otherwise, I do believe that Sloan Peterson is a band and not a solo artist. You may remember them for scoring a #28 hit a few months back by the name of "105", and now they have a slightly longer song title in "Rats", not to be confused with the computer game of the same name, which is their 2nd entry to date at #36. Lastly we have a slow climber that's managed to sneak through from St. Vincent. She has charted just once previously, with the still excellent "Digital Witness" reaching the top 20 back in 2014. This time around she's ditched the guitar solos for a more tender (yet explicit) ballad in "New York", entering at #38.
I have yet to hear any of these debuts but I imagine I'll here some over the next few weeks. Great to see Bad Liar top 3 and the Billie tracks moving up.
After the turbulance of last week, we've got some stability here, as you'd expect of a #1 debut. Jessie Ware retains #1 for a second week with "Midnight". Following last week's other big debut, Samsaruh takes "Golden To Thrive" up another 3 spots to #2. Not to be deterred by these newer tracks, Miloux continues to climb with "Paris" to #3, which means that it ties with Nothing But Thieves' "Amsterdam" for the highest ever charting tracks that share their name with a capital city. Shifting down is Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton with "Fatal Gift" at #4, while Selena Gomez resides at #5 with "Bad Liar". Manchester Orchestra match "The Gold"'s recent peak with "The Alien" also reaching #7, while the sole new track to the top 10 this week is Ecca Vandal's debut from last week, "Broke Days, Party Nights" up 12 places to #10, which is her first ever top 10 hit.
NEW ENTRIES
The "4:44" impact continues with a second entry now. Jay-Z actually leaps over his prior entry "The Story Of O.J." with the title track and its glorious soul samples behind a pretty touching confessional. "4:44" enters at #22 and is Jay's 3rd entry to date. Making a strong impression last year with a few singles was Alex Lahey. Most notably she reached #22 with "Let's Go Out", and now she picks up a second entry with the super upbeat "Every Day's The Weekend" at #28. Just in time for me to copy their name from last week's dropout list, lovers of Australia, Sløtface are back in action with yet another upbeat pop punk tune with delightful musical references, including one to "Hotline Bling", which makes it a rare case of a chart entry that references a previous chart entry. I'm looking forward to their album now, as they pick up their 3rd entry to date with "Pitted" at #34. Finishing off, we have an artist that has tried many times to get a second entry, only to remain fruitless until now. It was back in 2014 that Woodes scored top 20 success with her Elkkle collaboration "Muddy". She currently has two #51 hits to her name in "The Thaw" and "I Belong Here", but getting across the line this week is "Run For It" at #40.
The chart remains a heated affair. Continuing to ride on the top, Jessie Ware has "Midnight" for a 3rd week running. Not to be disregarded is Samsaruh who remains in the #2 position with "Golden To Thrive". Also maintaining with a spicy three dot is Miloux with "Paris". Freshening up the top 5, we've got a big climber from Ecca Vandal, whose "Broke Days, Party Nights" surges up 6 places to #4. Lastly, we continue an all female top 5 with Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton's "Fatal Gift" at #5. There are two new entries into the top 10 this week, firstly from Wolf Alice whose "Don't Delete The Kisses" climbs to #8 to become their 4th top 10 hit. A little lower is Cults who rebound with "Offering" to become their first top 10 hit at #10. Also in terms of reaching new heights, Jay-Z has "4:44" become his highest ever charter at #16, while Everything Everything have their first ever top 20 with "Can't Do" at #19.
NEW ENTRIES
Just a casual 6 years ago, The National had a hit with "Exile Vilify", which I note because it was recorded for the soundtrack to a video game, in that instance being Portal 2 which I would finally get around to playing years later and enjoying even more than the song. It remains to be seen what will be the case this time around, with Daughter's newest album serving as a soundtrack to the Life Is Strange prequel "Before The Storm", of which the first episode is releasing later this month. The first single released is "Burn It Down" which comes in at #17 and is the band's 2nd entry to date, after 2016's top 10 hit "Numbers". Up next we have another returner to the chart in Gang Of Youths. Their most recent charter was the #1 hit "What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out?", though they narrowly missed the top 40 with "Atlas Drowned" shortly after. The next single has proved a success however, with "Let Me Down Easy" at #28, giving them a 3rd entry to date. Now for the chart veterans of the week, we've got Arcade Fire. It is not an unpopular opinion to say that their latest album has been a bit of a let down, though it does have the occasional highlight amongst it. I've opted for the slightly Future Islands-esque "Put Your Money On Me" which comes in at #32. This is their 8th chart entry to date. Last off is a debutant for the chart that's been a long time waiting. We're talking Tyler, The Creator who has piqued my interest several times over the years just never enough to make the chart. Recent single "Who Dat Boy" does the trick as it enters at #37.
I didn't forget! Who Dat Boy is somewhat of a banger but I feel like it's too wacky for its own good Cults in the top 10 is great, as are moves for Everything Everything and Sløtface.
It's pretty regular that when you get some big hits coming through, there'll eventually reach a point where they all find their place in the chart and things generally settle down. That's not exactly what happened this week, and nowhere is that more evident than in this week's top 10. Despite the odds, we actually have a new #1 from Samsaruh. "Golden To Thrive" has been gaining momentum for a few weeks and it's finally reduced the margins enough to take the top spot with a great week on sales and streaming. This is enough to knock back "Midnight" by Jessie Ware to #2, who despite losing the top spot, is still doing strong in general so it's more a case of its competition stepping up a gear and it no longer being able to keep up. She may face further competition from this week's #3 which is Ecca Vandal's "Broke Days, Party Nights". It maintains its momentum and continues to climb, it just becomes a question of how high it can get. That's not something that can be said of "Paris" by Miloux at #4, which seems to have peaked already and will face even more competition in the coming weeks from "Don't Delete The Kisses" by Wolf Alice which has a big week moving up to #5. Wolf Alice continue to have good news here as the album drop gets closer, and they do enough to push Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton's "Fatal Gift", which is losing in all categories. The former #1 is essentially just holding on with inertia which is enough to keep it ahead of this week's #7, "Bad Liar" by Selena Gomez. At this point it's just a margins game as to whether or not it stays ahead of "The Alien" by Manchester Orchestra at #8 which could potentially have peaked as it drops slightly this week. This means it's open season for this week's #9, "Offering" by Cults which continues to climb thanks to older songs moving out of the way. And that's when we get to this week's #10 which is surprisingly "idontwannabeyouanymore" by Billie Eilish. After "Bellyache" reached the top 10 a few months ago it didn't seem unfeasible that she'd never reach those heights again, but with her new EP out she's going from strength to strength.
That leads us to our losers and dropouts. In the latter category there's nothing too surprising but we do lose Beach House's "Chariot" which is on its way out naturally. It is bad news for "Cut To The Feeling" by Carly Rae Jepsen, "Perfect Places" by Lorde and "Not About You" by Haiku Hands which may not have accumulated enough points to make the year end list. As for the losers, it's a bit of a mixed bag where hip hop does not have a good week. In that regard there's "The Story Of O.J." by Jay-Z down to #33 while "Wild Thoughts" by DJ Khaled, Rihanna & Bryson Tiller falls hard to #32. Kendrick Lamar continues to take hits with "DNA." down to #26 and "LUST." down to #24, but fortunately there's also a big drop for "XO TOUR Llif3" by Lil Uzi Vert down to #28.
What is worth noting this week is the returning entries and gains, though there are none in the former category. For the latter, we have gains from last week's debuts with Daughter moving up to #16 with "Burn It Down", "Put Your Money On Me" by Arcade Fire up to #29 and "Who Dat Boy" by Tyler, The Creator and A$AP Rocky up to #35. Most of note is a big climb for "Let Me Down Easy" by Gang Of Youths up to #21 ahead of the release of their new album which hopefully will have a big impact next week. There's also "Rats" by Sloan Peterson becoming their biggest hit moving to #27 while "Pitted" by Sløtface has a good week up to #23.
But anyway it's time for our new entries which is a bit of a mixed bag starting with
#37: "Kill Jay Z" by JAY-Z
So Jay-Z's had a turbulent few weeks on the chart recently so it's a bit of a surprise that he picks up another entry from "4:44" and this time it's the opening track "Kill Jay Z". It's a bit surprising to see this one gaining traction as it seems distinctly less commercially friendly than the other two. It's still a good track, but will it be able to get much higher than this, I guess we'll see.
#34: "My Boy" by Billie Eilish
Now I've spoken in the past about how I don't like when artists tack new tracks onto old albums to get streaming numbers, but Billie Eilish has done something different. Not understanding how pre-orders work, she actually constructed her EP week by week with a new track turning up on the tracklisting each week, and new artwork to boot. Nonetheless it seems to be working as she's slowly taking over the chart with this being her 4th entry this year. As for the song itself? Well it's an interesting change of style while still remaining in her wheelhouse. It has the dour lyrical stylings that we've come to expect from her including some wordplay that should come across as forced but pulls through thanks to her delivery. I can't be the only one who finds the tempo shifts a bit jarring, but as far as incredibly young artists making music goes, it's better than anything Ruel's doing so check it out I guess?
#25: "Beautifully Unconventional" by Wolf Alice
Did you know The Preatures put out a new album this week? It didn't really make much of an impact, so it's odd to see Wolf Alice going in their wheelhouse with this new track. They've had quite a mix of sounds with their new singles this year which makes me curious to check out that new album when it comes out next month. Despite the title, this is probably the most conventional of the singles so far except for the fact that it's rather short. Still a good track though so check it out. And finally...
#18: "Planets" by Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton
I've been waiting to talk about this one ever since it dropped a few weeks ago. I don't think there was much surprise when Emily Haines turned up with a solo #1 hit in "Fatal Gift" earlier this year but the question that came up was where she'd go from there. It would seem that the answer is something more distant, based on this new track. Considering how heavy "Fatal Gift" was on layers, it's surprising just how little is happening with this track which is about as stripped back as it can get. Either way, it's easily getting best of the week. I'll leave off the Worst of the week and Dishonourable Mention and give an Honourable Mention to "Beautifully Unconventional" by Wolf Alice, which has me really curious about that new album. I have no idea how things will go but it's still good signs for the future. Until then, I'm Hijinx, you're reading my chart and I'll see you next time.
If you were thinking of a different top three, stop right now because that ain't happening. Samsaruh retains the top spot with "Golden To Thrive" which in turn keeps Jessie Ware at #2 and Ecca Vandal at #3. On the way up however continues to be Wolf Alice, with "Don't Delete The Kisses" up a spot to #4, swapping with Miloux and "Paris" at #5. Overall though it's a quiet top 10 with the only major move being Cults' "Offering" up 3 places to #6. Jay-Z may be on the way to his first top 10 hit though as "4:44" creeps up to #11, while Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton & Gang Of Youths also show good momentum towards their second top 10s.
NEW ENTRIES
Fresh from debuting at #1 on Australia's album chart, we've got Gang Of Youths fresh with another debut. Giving them 3 entries now from their latest album, and 4 overall, is the climactic "The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows" at #24. Next up we've got something of a big comeback which is only slightly damped by the fact that this band have been charting pretty regularly lately. Nonetheless, Brand New put out their first new album in close to a decade and it's very much in line with what I'd like to hear. I haven't had time to really dig into it, but the first track that really caught my attention was "Waste" which comes in at #29, their 3rd charting entry. Keeping with the newly released albums, just yesterday we had one from Queens Of The Stone Age, though I haven't heard that one yet. I have heard singles though, and the latest one to make an impact is "The Evil Has Landed" at #34, which is their 4th charting entry overall. As we go chronologically through album releases, we finish the week on one that hasn't been released yet. But it's a band who have had consistent success on this chart despite never reaching the top 10. I'm of course talking about Tired Lion, whose latest single is aptly titled "Fresh", and keeps up their run of getting 2 chart entries a year. So their 6th time in the chart is new at #36.
I hate when I miss chart commenting each week Since I last commented I now know Midnight, Golden To Thrive and Don't Delete The Kisses, yay! Enjoyed them all. Pleased to see them all top 5 and Fatal Gift still top 10.
This brings us to week 3 of Samsaruh's reign. As with the other two weeks, it's Jessie Ware sitting behind her at #2 with "Midnight". Wolf Alice bring some movement in the top 5 as "Don't Delete The Kisses" moves up another place to #3, displacing Ecca Vandal's "Broke Days, Party Nights" down to #4. Cults continue to see new heights with "Offering" at #5. There are two new tracks into the top 10 this week too, firstly Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton, doubling her tally with "Planets" climbing to #8 while "Fatal Gift" still sits at #10, and secondly, Jay-Z for the first time ever with "4:44" at #9. Biggest move of the week goes to Brand New whose "Waste" moves up 8 places from its debut last week to #21.
NEW ENTRIES
It's been a while since the chart was last treated to Indiana. In 2014 she burst onto the scene with a huge hit in "Solo Dancing", which was followed quickly by another top 10 hit "Heart's On Fire". That was 3 years ago but now she's back with "Bad Luck" at #23, after all this time her production is still ahead of the curve. Now for an artist that has waited a little less time to get back into the chart, in fact they're yet to leave it. Nothing But Thieves follow up their big smash "Amsterdam" with another single from their upcoming 2nd album, this time the title track "Broken Machine" at #29. Sometimes you never know what the future will hold. https://imgur.com/wcSl4pr Unless of course you have a PhoneWave (name subject to change) but even then you'll have to rely on someone giving you the heads up in the future and hoping the process doesn't affect the worldline in the process. What I'm saying here is that for the first time ever, I'm charting Kesha, which is slow of me and not just because the song has been out for quite a while now. But "Praying" is just too much of a moment to deny, and proves that the only Dr. you really need in your life is Dr. Pepper. And so "Praying" enters this week at #38, El Psy Kongroo. This could also be a case of a belated debut if not for the band having done so earlier this year. Nonetheless, Slowdive comeback fever retains as they get a second entry with "Don't Know Why" at #39.
Things are settling in for the time being. Samsaruh has now logged 4 weeks at #1, with not much new competition because the top 5 is the same as last week. Jessie Ware holds #2, Wolf Alice hold #3, Ecca Vandal holds #4 and Cults hold #5. Moving into the top 10 this week is Gang Of Youths, who notch up their second top 10 hit with "Let Me Down Easy" at #9. Sløtface will be hoping to make 3/3 with "Pitted" zooming up 7 places to #11, while Nothing But Thieves are already making a good impression with "Broken Machine" up 7 places to #22.
NEW ENTRIES
She burst out the gate with a #1 hit a couple months ago, now Jessie Ware is becoming something of a regular hitmaker as she gets her 3rd chart entry to date. This time around it's new single "Selfish Love", which could hardly be much more different to "Midnight", but comes with a charm of its own. It comes in at #26. Just behind her, we have a much more regular group of hitmakers in the form of The National. They've recently released a new album and of course I'm all over that, paying dividends with new entry "Day I Die" at #27. It's their 7th song to chart. Lastly, we have another recent album releaser, with Cloud Control who just put out their 3rd album, to slightly less fanfare than the first two. I am nothing if not a person who likes the other Cloud Control songs, so they get their 3rd chart entry to date, with "Treetops" at #38. They last charted in 2013 with a pair of entries in "Scar" and "Promises".
Stability continues to be the theme at the top end of the chart. There's stuff bubbling up, but at the very top it's still Samsaruh for a 5th week, and in fact she and Jessie Ware have had an embargo on the top 2 for the last 7 weeks, as "Midnight" retains #2. Wolf Alice continue to sit at #3 with "Don't Delete The Kisses", and Ecca Vandal maintains #4 with "Broke Days, Party Nights". Moving on up is Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton's "Planets", hitting the top 5 for the first time. The top 10 also welcomes two newcomers, though from veteran artists in that perspective. It helps that I've recently played the first episode of Life Is Strange: Before The Storm, which though it does not feature the song in question (to my knowledge), it has helped me resonate further with Chloe's inner monologue, which I imagine inspired "Burn It Down" which climbs up 7 places to #6, Daughter's 2nd top 10 hit and now their highest charter. Also with a perfect record of top 10 hits, Sløtface get their 3rd with "Pitted" up a spot to #10.
NEW ENTRIES
It's hella busy this week with 6 new arrivals to get through. The first of which is a song which just narrowly missed the chart last week, with St. Vincent's 2nd single released this year, "Los Ageless", which if nothing else is a reminder that "Stylo"'s bassline was ahead of its time. Nonetheless it instantly becomes her biggest charter as it enters at #14, one spot above "Digital Witness"'s 2014 peak. This is her 3rd entry to date. Now to welcome an artist that has been unseen for quite a while, though understandably as they hadn't released a single song since their tenure in the chart in 2015. So Makthaverskan's "Witness" which hit #4 back then finally has a follow up single by way of the track "In My Dreams" which was actually released a month ago but I didn't realise that until recently. It's in at #19 this week. Speaking of songs I have been slow to discover, DeJ Loaf released "No Fear" back in June but I only discovered it this week because it just snuck onto the Hot 100 and it's pretty much a jam. You may know her best for her single "Try Me" or her subsequent shout out on "Nasty Freestyle", though probably not because that wasn't in the first 6 seconds of the song. Nonetheless, at #27 it's her first time on the chart. Now the reason I discovered that new Makthaverskan single is because they released another single much more recently which pointed it out. That other new single also finds a place in this week, with "Eden" coming in at #31 and giving Makthaverskan their 3rd entry to date. Now a band I've needed much less time to wait on, and they have in fact been very busy this year. Gang Of Youths go from strength to strength as they score their 4th entry from their latest album, and 5th overall, as "Say Yes To Life" climbs up in at #35. Lastly sneaking through is another bottom 40 climber by way of Jess Locke's "Universe", doing so at the very close spot of #40. It's the first time in the chart for the Australian troubadour.
Stability continues but it's confined to just the top two this week. The small subset of people who are waiting for me to get a new #1 for specific reasons will have to wait some more, as Samsaruh logs a 6th week at the top with "Golden To Thrive". Jessie Ware is still holding strong at #2 with "Midnight", while the new threat is the teen angst of Daughter's "Burn It Down" which climbs up 3 places to #3. Just ahead of their new album release, Wolf Alice retain a top 5 spot but are down 1 to #4 with "Don't Delete The Kisses", while Ecca Vandal is also down to #5 with "Broke Days, Party Nights". The top two has two newbies this week, first of which comes from St. Vincent who scores her first ever top 10 hit with "Los Ageless" up 7 places to #7. Meanwhile, despite the disadvantage of not having released the song properly yet, Indiana moves up with "Bad Luck", giving her a 3rd top 10 peaker, which is a perfect run so far.
NEW ENTRIES
There are two debuting artists who are charting for the first time this week. The first of which though has some noteworthy history on this chart. I am talking about Chela who you may know via collaborating with Clubfeet that one time, but also because she co-wrote a #1 hit in Owl Eyes' "Closure" back in 2013. Her newest song is in a bit of a different direction that reminds me a bit of Haim, with "Bad Habit" at #24, giving further fuel to the fact that I clearly need to make a 'Bad ____' chart. Next up we have the most familiar artist in the chart, to the point that this isn't their only song in the chart this week. Queens Of The Stone Age have just scored a top 20 hit with "The Evil Has Landed", but they have another entry now with "Head Like A Haunted House" at #29. All up they now have 5 chart entries. The other newbie to the chart is Tove Styrke, who has finally put out a song that I've gotten into while it was still relevant, so in at #31 is "Mistakes". Lastly, in the not-too-distant future I'll be seeing Birds of Tokyo live. There's an extensive list of support acts and the one I'm most interested in (probably more than anyone else too really) is The Money War, who over the past year have put out quite a few strong singles, notably "Stars" which reached the top 10 back in April. They're now back with a 3rd entry with "Hold On" at #36.
You may want another new #1 (and tbh I might too) but I cannot supply such a thing this week. For 7 weeks now we must be "Golden To Thrive" and you guessed it, "Midnight" is sitting strongly at #2. Maintaining their new peak from last week, Daughter sit at #3 with "Burn It Down", while St. Vincent continues to scale new heights with "Los Ageless" at #4. Wolf Alice finish off the top 5 with "Don't Delete The Kisses" which has been within the threshold for 7 weeks now. Meanwhile Gang Of Youths get their 3rd top 10 hit, all of them this year with "The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows" up 4 places to #9, incidentally the same position that "Let Me Down Easy" hit a few weeks back. In what can be considered good times for the veteran acts, both Slowdive & The National can now claim to having 2 top 20 hits for this year.

It's hard to say it's been trying times for Australian artists when we've had one at #1 for quite a while now, but things are getting more fruitful as all of this week's debuts are in fact Australian, adding to that, they're all artists that have never charted before. First off is the one that I'm most familiar with. RY X scored a random UK top 40 hit with "Berlin" a few years back which didn't necessarily put him on my radar but I've never forgotten about it. With no chart action to show for it, he also put out a song last year I quite liked in "Deliverance", but now he's making the big leagues, as well as a big signpost that I clearly need to make a real 'Bad ____' chart, because now we've got "Bad Love" in at #24. Next up is a song I'm frankly a bit surprised to see get traction. Not because I don't think it has hit potential, I just think it's barking up a strange market through triple j and selling surprisingly well when similar sounding US contemporaries often struggle on that front. Either way, things are getting a little bit more wavy as Carmouflage Rose makes an entrance at #28 with "Late Nights". I actually was not aware that Rainbow Chan was Australian as I feel like I've seen her mentioned abroad a bit. Technically speaking she's from Hong Kong but she does have an Unearthed page which is basically Australian citizenship. Aside from that, she's recently put out quite a strong single in "Let Me" that I'm indulging in with a #32 debut. Now is the only remotely familiar entry of the lot purely because the feature artist is in fact our #1 reigning Samsaruh. I must admit I would have liked her to be utilised more on this song but I suppose it's prominently instrumentally driven so that's not the point. The only thing that matters is that Blanke's "Blue" is something of a banger, and gets in at #33.
Late Nights is on it's way out of my chart now at #27 this week after spending 11 weeks in with a peak of #4. It's hard to believe that's an Aussie hip hop sound coming out of Brisbane.
We continue to be denied a semi-milestone as instead, Samsaruh logs an 8th week at #1 with "Golden To Thrive". The list of competing songs has grown a bit this week however, as Daughter climb to a new peak of #2 with "Burn It Down", followed by St. Vincent's "Los Ageless" at #3. Even Wolf Alice aren't finished with "Don't Delete The Kisses" back up a spot to #4. Jessie Ware has to make way for all of this so "Midnight" concedes to #5. Also climbing in the top 10 is Indiana whose "Bad Luck" still hasn't gotten a proper digital release but is her 2nd highest charter, and the latter part of that can also be said of Gang Of Youths, with "The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows" up to #7. Makthaverskan will be hoping for a second top 10 hit as "In My Dreams" climbs to #11, and maybe DeJ Loaf could get her first with "No Fear" up to #13.

I was too busy at the start of last week to get onto new releases again, but I have since gotten to that new Wolf Alice album which I am very much here for. Most catching of my attention was track 5 on the album, "Planet Hunter", which has that warmth & nostalgia of "Don't Delete The Kisses". Not only does it top the newly formed 'Planet___' chart, but by entering at #9, it becomes Wolf Alice's 8th chart entry, and 5th top 10. Another regular to the charts, we have The National picking up their 3rd entry for the year, all of which have cracked the top 20 but none the top 10. Maybe this'll be the one? "Turtleneck" feels like the closest studio approximation of The National's live show, and makes for raucous good fun entering at #20. This is also their 8th chart entry. Next we have a new artist to the chart. It comes from the baffling pedigree of people meeting up through kanyetothe and wait don't leave me. Nonetheless, BROCKHAMPTON are finally making an impression on the chart with the opening track to their latest release, "GUMMY" entering at #25. Lastly, we have an artist sitting in the middle of these standings, though it's not been long since they were last in the chart. Our sole Australian entrant for the week is Alex Lahey, who has just released her debut album, and picks up a 3rd entry with the very relatable "I Haven't Been Taking Care Of Myself" at #37.
It's time for a new #1! After 8 weeks at the summit, "Golden To Thrive" has been pushed down to #2, being replaced by Wolf Alice's "Planet Hunter". This is the band's 2nd #1 hit after (I left my heart at) 2015's "Fluffy", and continues a 21 week streak of female fronted #1s. Sitting at #3 for a second week is "Los Ageless", while Daughter have dropped back to #4 with "Burn It Down". Indiana's "Bad Luck" is still yet to get a proper release, but it climbs its way into the top 5 at #5, only 1 place behind the peak of "Solo Dancing". Many top 10 contenders have had the progress delayed this week, but BROCKHAMPTON make a big move with "GUMMY" up 9 places to #16.

It's an all Australian week, and the first one has been a long time coming. In fact it's been a whole 7 years since the last time Gyroscope appeared on this chart. In the space of just 3 years they managed to notch up 8 entries, 4 of them #1 hits. In fact their last song to ever appear on the chart, "What Do I Know About Pain?" was a #1 hit. My love of the Perth rock outfit has not wavered in the time since, and their new track "Crooked Thought" rockets right up in at #7. It's now their 9th song to chart. Now for a band who've been waiting a little bit less, in fact their first ever chart entry is twice as recent than Gyroscope's last. But it's good news for SAFIA who keep their running streak of getting at least one new entry every year. They're up to 6 entries now with the upbeat "Cellophane Rainbow" in at #30. For the rest of the week we're seeing newbies to the chart. Not that the first artist is particularly new to me, but this is the first time that Hayden James has made it onto the chart. Incidentally it's a track he doesn't actually sing on, leaving those duties to GRAACE who is not to be confused with either the artist formerly known as Grace or the artist currently known as Grace. "NUMB" certainly does the trick coming through at #33. Some weeks ago I had a dream that the radio were playing a 9 minute long Portugal. The Man song from 2011, which doesn't exist, believe me I've checked, but it actually turned out that what they were playing was this, which sounds absolutely nothing like that description would befit and more along the lines of The Smith Street Band or something. If you've felt alienated by the lack of alien related songs in my chart in the past 7 days, you can thank Slowly Slowly for bringing "Aliens" in at #38.
Sitting at the top for a second week is Wolf Alice with "Planet Hunter". Though she was bumped off the top last week, Samsaruh can still maintain #2 for "Golden To Thrive", keeping St. Vincent at her peak of #3 for "Los Ageless". After a big debut last week, Gyroscope maintain the momentum with "Crooked Thought" up 3 places to #4, the only mover in the top 5 as Indiana's "Bad Luck" is #5 again. Making a big jump into the top 10 this week is BROCKHAMPTON with "GUMMY" up 8 places to #8, their first top 10. Making a considerably smaller jump is Makthaverskan's "In My Dream" up from #11 to #10, and finally giving them a second top 10 hit.

Last week we had a big return to the chart for Gyroscope, and now we have another big return, with MGMT seeing their first chart action in 4 years this week. Though if you excluded the song "Alien Days", then their chart success is pretty much limited to 2008-2010 just like Gyroscope. Anyhow, they've made something of a return to their earlier synth pop stylings with maybe a little goth or just that Andrew looks like Robert Smith in the clip. "Little Dark Age" is in at #17 and is the band's 10th chart entry. The only other returning artist to the chart this week is a little more recent in general. Ecca Vandal has picked up a number of entries in the last 3 years with some heavy rock influenced tracks. The most recent of those has been the biggest success with "Broke Days, Party Nights" climbing all the way up to #3. Now we have a completely change of pace as she teams up with Sampa The Great on a track from her newly released album. With their combined power we get a sort of R&B/Pop hybrid that reminds me of Macy Gray. "Your Orbit" comes in at #24 which is Ecca's 4th entry, and Sampa's 5th. Now for something I did not expect a few days ago, but newly debuting to the chart is Rita Ora, a singer I've tended to be largely indifferent to aside from the occasional banger. Her new song "Anywhere" just has a certain lush texture to it I like, as well as a chorus drop that's surprisingly fun. Making her first impact, it's in at #29. Lastly another new artist but one that's new to pretty much everyone unless it turns out that this is a second attempt at a career from a former star. There's a severe lack of information online about LUME so who can say for sure? Anyway, "Magnets" does the job as pleasant electropop, entering at #36.
Anywhere is a surprise of course, I do hope I end up enjoying it more than I do now. I liked Little Dark Age more. I can now say I've heard Planet Hunter and it's quite enjoyable. I didn't notice No Fear had done so well for you, I feel like I've been so slow with it now Also I haven't mentioned my liking for Paris in this thread yet, it's been lingering in my Potential Future Charters for a few weeks now and is just finally going to make my chart. I'm even slower on that one Goes without saying I love the high peak and longevity it has enjoyed.
For a 3rd week now, Wolf Alice have "Planet Hunter" at the top of the chart. They'll face competition from Gyroscope whose "Crooked Thought" moves up to #2, fending to become their 5th #1 hit. Samsaruh moves down a spot to #3, as does St. Vincent to #4. Indiana's "Bad Luck" stays put at #5. There's just one new entrant into the top 10, and it's courtesy of The National who score their 3rd top 10 hit to date with "Turtleneck", following 2010's "Bloodbuzz Ohio" and 2015's "Sunshine On My Back". The closest proximity of a neck & back since Khia.

Top debut of the week is from a returning artist. Earlier this year, XL Recordings' boss scored a hit under the name Everything Is Recorded, with "Close But Not Quite" peaking at #26. They've returned to the chart at a position which is close but not quite #26, rather one spot higher at #25. Just like that last song, it's a collaboration with Sampha, but it also adds Syd who I believe has never charted before as a solo artist. "Show Love" is the artists' 2nd, 3rd & 1st entries to date respectively. Time for this week's comeback of sorts. It's been 4 years since Franz Ferdinand last appeared on the chart, scoring a couple of hits off of their 4th album. They've ceased their pattern of increasingly lengthy breaks between albums (unless you're a face value years person) with a new one on the way early next year I believe. The first song out is "Always Ascending" which debuts at #29. It's their 6th song to enter the chart. Earlier this year you wouldn't have noticed Ric Rufio's track "So Wonderful", as it peaked at the rather unfortunate position of #42 back in May on my chart. He's fortunately redeemed himself with his newest track "Water To Wine", whose vocal harmonies give me some early '00s nostalgia I can't correctly explain. Naturally it's his first song to chart, and it's #32. Lastly, we have the return of the most regular charter of this lot. Kimbra has scored a healthy handful of chart entries since 2011. She's hit the big milestone of a 10th entry now with her latest single "Everybody Knows" in at #37.
Wolf Alice have 4 weeks at the top with "Planet Hunter", but they've still got a ways to go if they want to match their 5 week run for "Fluffy". Gyroscope will be hoping to chomp on the meat bone of #1 but for now "Crooked Thought" resides at #2. Samsaruh holds at #3, so you may as well call her the Luminary of the Top Three. BROCKHAMPTON have moved "GUMMY" into the top 5 at #4, and they have a new debut which may be the right choice or the dreadfully wrong choice depending on only my opinion because that's what counts here. St. Vincent finishes off the top 5 with "Los Ageless", because she's very much welcome in a top 5 environment. The esteemed chart history of MGMT gets a little bit more esteemed as they get an 8th top 10 hit with "Little Dark Age", their first top 10 since 2010's "It's Working". Everything Is Recorded gets his first top 20 hit also, no doubt thanks to Sampha's pro-seesaw outlook.

Because I like to exercise variety in this chart, I have two debuts this week that remind me of "On Top" by Flume. The highest of which is not one of those two. It's instead the chart debut for Kira Puru, who despite not charting, did feature in my 2016 EOY with her appearance on Urthboy's "Daughter Of The Light". Now she's in with something rather different, new single "Tension" which has a rather bouncy rhythm that reminds me of NEIKED's "Sexual". It comes in at #21 this week, because it's magic. That aforementioned BROCKHAMPTON song is up, and it's track 2 on "SATURATION II", which obviously makes a suggestion for how I will go about future debuts from that album. Anyway, now "QUEER" is making the entrance at #23. Formerly known as FØRD, this week sees the debut to the chart for one FORD MISKIN. He is of course helped by his two featured artists, both of which are scoring their 3rd entries, and both of course having a very high charting hit to their name. One artist has taken about 4 months to accrue these, the other has taken 7 years. I am of course talking about Theophilus London and Samsaruh, who appear on #37's "Do It Better". Evidently both artists just can't keep away from absolute bangers. Also I just saw them live so here's an obligatory re-entry.
Sorry for not commenting anywhere near as often as I should I heard Tension today and didn't mind it. GUMMY is excellent but Planet Hunter still my preferred #1. MGMT and The National moving up is big news though, as is Franz while I'm at it
Omg Do It Better! So happy to see it here. Had to listen to QUEER to see what it sounded like and it's pretty good. Anywhere is getting better so I guess I'm happy to see it already in the top 20, and Everybody Knows moving up is awesome.
But now Wolf Alice have done it, keeping "Planet Hunter" at #1 for a 5th week and thus matching the feat of "Fluffy" back in 2015. In this particularly planetary chart we also have "Planets" at #40. Gyroscope hold the #2 position with "Crooked Thought" for a 3rd week, while BROCKHAMPTON continue to increase their fortunes, firstly with "GUMMY" now up to #3. Samsaruh's "Golden To Thrive" sits at #4 while St. Vincent holds "Los Ageless" at #5. New to the top 10 this week is Ecca Vandal's "Your Orbit", which is her 2nd top 10, and Sampa The Great's 4th. With big moves this week we could see Rita Ora or Kira Puru in the top 10 next week, as they sit at #11 and #12 currently.

After a spree of 'Bad' entries, we need something to restore the balance. Well it's debatable since it's not specified, but in any case, we now have pure "Habits" in the chart. It comes from the Marmozets who have always caught my ear thanks to the strength of their lead singer, but this is their first time in the chart, up at #20. For the 2nd week in a row, we've got a new BROCKHAMPTON song coming in, and this time it's the more obvious pick of "SWEET", no doubt thanks to the obviously Young Thug & Kanye West cameos. Everyone's favourite boy band are up to their 3rd chart entry though, with it in at #27. One of those artists that Spotify love to promote is of course Sigrid. She's been slowly getting better for me and now she makes a big move with her latest single "Strangers" which enters at #30. Lastly it's a relatively minor key entry because I have no idea who these people are, but it's also a landmark entry because it marks the first time that a song title has appeared 3 different times on my chart. In 2011 it was Coldplay, in 2013 it was Cub Sport, and now in 2017 we have a 3rd "Paradise" to enter the fray courtesy of producer Wongo and singer San Mei at #38.
Good to see Strangers make it in Didn't make it into my chart last week but there's a good chance it will tomorrow. Anywhere almost top 10 is now much surpassing expectations, maybe it'll be another Bad Liar for you. Good to see Everybody Knows moving up again and that NUMB is stable.
GUMMY and Little Dark Age still moving up! yay Franz and Rita Ora moving too. Not sold on Tension from my couple of not very attentive jjj listens but oh boy Planet Hunter is stunning.
Long runners at #1 are back in favour, as we now have Wolf Alice landing a 6th week at #1 for "Planet Hunter". This makes it their outright longest running chart topper. Gyroscope are kept at #2 for a 4th week for "Crooked Thought". BROCKHAMPTON have a hold on #3 with "GUMMY". Still holding in the top 5 for a 17th week is Samsaruh's very starry-eyed "Golden To Thrive" at #4. Moving into the top 5 is MGMT's "Little Dark Age" at #5, their highest chart position since 2010's "Flash Delirium". Also this week are some artists breaking into the top 10 for the first time, as was hinted last week. It's the first time for Rita Ora with "Anywhere" up to #8, and Kira Puru's "Tension" moves to #9.

One of my favourite albums of last year was Camp Cope's self-titled debut. It netted a slow burning hit on this chart late last year with "Done" which many months later went on to hit the top 5. They have another album due out next year, and the first track to be lifted from it is the vicious "The Opener" heading up this week's debuts at #20. I take any opportunity I can to speak enthusiastically about the works of one Sarah Blasko, though as it would turn out, her impact on this chart has been rather limited. She had "Only One" chart briefly in 2015, but that was until now the only one. She's instantly hit a new chart peak with latest single "Phantom", coming in at #28. Speaking of Australian artists for whom my enthusiasm isn't well reflected in this chart, it's only just now that I welcome The Presets to the fold. Their 2008 album "Apocalypso" was a big favourite of mine both then and now, and their newest single is giving me similar vibes to it. "Do What You Want" comes in at #37. Lastly I complete this entirely Australian set of debuts with yet another artist who made an appearance in my EOY top 300 last year but not my chart. This time it's a first time in the chart for Caiti Baker, who of course was on A.B. Original's "Sorry" from last year, but she's breaking out here on her own with "Believer" at #40.
Do What You Want! Go Strangers but my other favourites have dropped this week, although I am happy to see Rita top 10 more because it's Rita than the actual song
New Presets track is banging. Not sure if I've come across the Camp Cope one yet though. Loving Wolf Alice's domination and great to see MGMT sneak into the 5. ermagherd Franz will have to rename the song now
It's time to see some new faces at #1. I use that term very ironically because given the context it's the furthest thing from the truth. I put it that Gyroscope have done the deed with "Crooked Thought", which bumps off Wolf Alice. To put this all into context, this is Gyroscope's 5th #1 hit, at least 3 of which pre-date Wolf Alice's existence as a band. Gyroscope at #1 also leads well into mentioning that more than half of the songs on this chart have Australian artists on them. Meanwhile tracking down the chart, BROCKHAMPTON hold at #3. Making a big jump is Kira Puru's "Tension" up 5 spots to #4, while yet again Samsaruh is in the top 5 with "Golden To Thrive" now at #5. Jumping into the top 10, BROCKHAMPTON score a 2nd top 10 hit now, with "QUEER" at #10.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's last album didn't generate any chart hits, so it's obviously been ages since they last appeared here. Settling that very long drought is "Crumbling Castle", which is the longest song I've charted in quite some time. It's also King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's highest charting song now, as it enters at #23, and their 3rd overall. Notching up hits with a bit more regularity, we've got Sampa The Great back again, this time with something on her newly released album. "Black Girl Magik" does the trick at #25, which if you include all featured appearances, is Sampa's 6th time charting, all of which are within the last 2 years. It also features Nicole Gumbe who I know nothing about. Lastly, it's even more artists I know nothing about, except that the lead artist on this next song has less Twitter followers than me. I am talking about JANEVA who put out my favourite song this week who starts her chart journey with "Humble Beginnings" at #30. It features a rather solid rap verse from ZenSoFly who I think is the only non-Australian artist to have debuted on my chart in the last fortnight.
But how far will Anywhere end up going. That's the question I'm curious to know. Good to see rises for Strangers and Do What You Want, even if they are small.
Rita Ora still moving up is excellent. Still haven't quite got into Tension or Crooked Thought so I do easily prefer the other three songs in the top 5. King Gizz debuting before me is a mark against me for sure but in fairness it's a lot of tuna to grapple Nice move for Presets / need to hear new Blasko.
It's 2 weeks at the top for Gyroscope, which surpasses their last #1 "What Do I Know About Pain?" which sat at the top for just a week. But that "Crooked Thought" could be unsettled due to some rising "Tension" via Kira Puru moving up 2 places to #2. It bumps back Wolf Alice's "Planet Hunter" to #3, while BROCKHAMPTON see "GUMMY" down to #4. Joining the top 5 for the first time ever is Rita Ora with "Anywhere" at #5. We also have a new track into the top 10, with Camp Cope taking just 3 weeks to reach these heights with "The Opener" sitting at #10. It's their 2nd top 10 hit. Also making big moves with their first top 20 hits are King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Sarah Blasko.

If this isn't by chance your first time visiting this chart, then you may well already be acquainted with one Samsaruh. First appearing on the chart in late July, she's kind of cropping up everywhere lately and now appears on 4 tracks in the top 40 right now. The latest of which is actually her own song for a change, as it was just newly released yesterday. Will she be able to repeat the success of "Golden To Thrive"? Probably not but let's see how close "Beautiful Killer" gets as it enters at #24. I will never run out of vintage favourites whose lack of activity in modern years often means they've never made my chart, but I can occasionally knock another one off the list. Enter the first ever chart appearance for N*E*R*D, titled "Lemon" at #28. The song also features Rihanna who is much more regularly seen in this chart, at least in recent years. For her this is the 5th time charting. Now in the world of me being very prepared for these charts is a song I only just heard on the radio this morning. But it is a song whose conception speaks clearly to me, which is to say that Run The Jewels are on it and it also somewhat liberally samples a track from "Run The Jewels 2". Either way a tune is a tune, so Statik Selektah gets into the chart for the first time with "Put Jewels On It" at #33. It's the 7th time in the chart for Run The Jewels. Lastly we see the arrival of an artist that's been absent for a couple years, that being Miguel. He was last seen on the chart in 2015, when both "Everyday" and "Coffee" debuted on the same week, now he's back with "Told You So" at #38, his 4th entry to date.
We have a new #1 now, and for the first time in a while it comes from an artist that is scoring their first #1 hit, with their first ever entry to boot. Said artist is Kira Puru with the song "Tension" which I await to be chosen by the hit lottery to be allowed to be a hit because unlike most things that reach the top of my chart, I could conceivably believe that it's sonically appropriate for it. This gives back to back Australian #1's, with the last one, Gyroscope's "Crooked Thought" slipping to #2. Wolf Alice hold #3 with "Overkill", while Rita Ora moves up just a little more with "Anywhere" to #4. BROCKHAMPTON complete the top 5 with "GUMMY" at #5. The sole new track into the top 10 this week is from Marmozets who are the 5th artist in the top 10 currently to be doing so with their first ever chart entry (after Kira Puru, Rita Ora, BROCKHAMPTON & Samsaruh), this one being "Habits" at #10.

While the Australian dominance has been slipping just a little bit lately, I do come with an Australian artist leading the debut pack for the week. This time around it's Jess Locke, who you might recall briefly dabbled in the top 40 with her single "Universe" which peaked at #37. She followed that with "Dangerous" which could quite crack the main chart but reached #50 a few weeks ago, and now I've since heard her album which I really enjoyed, and have found a new song to gravitate towards, with "Violent Turn" giving her a whole new level of success as it debuts at #20. Now an artist that feels like she's been distant from the chart, but really she's just starting up a pace of charting once every 2 years. I am talking about MØ who first charted on her own with "Never Wanna Know" reaching the top 20 in late 2013, then to much more fanfare worldwide, she was on Major Lazer's "Lean On" (I think DJ Snake featured on it too) in 2015 which also reached the top 40. Now she has her 3rd chart entry, and she's back on her own, with the ever-so-fun "When I Was Young" tapping into my eternal love of circus music at #31. Incidentally while we have MØ charting this week, we follow her up with a song that really could pass as being her as well, and also a collaboration of artists that I don't think I ever expected to chart again. Well maybe that more applies to the lead artist here Le Youth, who had a decent sized hit in 2013 with "C O O L" which sampled Cassie's "Me & U" to great effect, followed by me not really finding another song of theirs to really latch onto. I was going to say that it's been longer for the featured artist, but I forgot that I was mistaken as I went to check the stats. MNDR of course featured on Mark Ronson's big hit "Bang Bang Bang" back in 2017, and just over a year ago, teamed up with Jai Wolf on "Like It's Over". So now they're getting their 2nd & 3rd entries respectively as they team up on "I Could Always" at #35.
So dumb me only just realised Tension was doing so well for you today Good to see it at #1! I Could Always and When I Was Young both debuting is super cool. Pun unintended Good to see rises for Anywhere, Beautiful Killer and Lemon. Please don't stall now though Strangers.
No change at the top as the correctly spelt Kira Puru takes a 2nd week with "Tension". Not a lot of change in general near the top as Gyroscope also hold the 2nd spot, but there is a jump for Camp Cope whose "The Opener" moves 3 places up to #3, overtaking the #5 peak of "Done" and thus is their highest charter to date. Rita Ora retains #4 with "Anywhere" while Wolf Alice finish off the top 5 with "Planet Hunter". Making a move into the top 10 is Ric Rufio with his first ever entry, "Water To Wine" up at #9.

For the first time in several months, we've got 5 debuts this week. First off it's a big one, with N*E*R*D quickly scoring a second hit as "Lemon" still climbs. In fact they've leapfrogged it with "Don't Don't Do It!" For this song they have Kendrick Lamar which couldn't be a bad thing. It serves to extend his lead as the artist with the most chart entries, as he's now up to 18 with this new song coming in at #18. I'm trying to catch up on 2017 stuff, and one of the delights of this has been finally hearing Alex Lahey's debut album. Not that she's new to the chart, in fact this is now her 4th entry. It's also something a bit different for her with a slower ballad in the form of "I Want U" at #24. MGMT's new album continues to look promising as they pick up a 2nd chart entry, which they did not manage with their last album. Nonetheless, I'm getting super nostalgic for their older stuff, with "When You Die" becoming their 11th entry at #29. Now after some chart regulars, here's a newcomer, though one that's been in the music industry for quite a while. I'm talking about Kelsey Bulkin whose relatively new single "West Coast Drama" hits that smooth down tempo pop itch I've been needing lately, as it debuts at #33. And another debut for a veteran act, one that more people have probably heard of, as Glassjaw released their first new album in a long time. I haven't heard it yet but I have heard the track "shira" which gets a #37 debut.
It's a busy week, just not at the top. Kira Puru has no problem taking "Tension" to week 3 at #1. We have a new contender rising up however, with Camp Cope's "The Opener" moving up a spot to #2, sliding Gyroscope's "Crooked Thought" back to #3. The rest of the top 5 is unchanged, Rita Ora at #4 and Wolf Alice at #5. Climbing into the top 10 however this week, is King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard with "Crumbling Castle" up from #12 to #8, becoming their first top 10 hit. In the process, we finally lose "Golden To Thrive" from the top 10, but Samsaruh is close to replacing it with "Beautiful Killer" now up to #11, while N*E*R*D & Kendrick Lamar, as well as Kelsey Bulkin make strong gains this week.
NEW ENTRIES
This time I'm on time, which means there's a name you'll be seeing a lot on this week's chart, and that is the best boyband since One Direction, BROCKHAMPTON. They just released a 3rd album this year, and while the chart was already full of their 2nd album, we've got a whole new batch to enjoy. Leading the pack we've got "BOOGIE" at #6 because it's a party in my ears and everyone's invited. This is their 4th entry to date, and 3rd top 10 hit, all 3 of which reside there at present. To break up from that, I have a less timely entry, and one I nearly skipped over because I thought it was much older than it was. So I have to belatedly give credit to Baker Boy, whose "Marryuna" really clicked with me recently, and which I hope does very well in next month's Hottest 100. It's of course his first time in the chart, and it's in at #15. Now back to business, we've got another BROCKHAMPTON track with the very 2nd track on the album "ZIPPER", which must be the only song to ever rhyme Hannah Montana with Tony Fantano. It also shows that this year has been very good for Ric Flair sounds in rap songs, or something like that. "ZIPPER" enters at #17 and is their 5th chart entry. Now to finish things off, let's have one more BROCKHAMPTON track, with one that reminds me a bit of "GUMMY" so it's of course an instant success. It's not the way Merle's name's pronounced, so don't call him that, but "STUPID" comes in at #25, meaning the group have 6 entries all in the top 25, the sort of domination that hasn't been seen since peak Muse era.
As we go into the closing week of 2017, there's a new #1, and so opening up this week's chart is "The Opener" by Camp Cope. This is the 3rd consecutive Australian #1 track, and it's also the band's first ever. It bumps Kira Puru's "Tension" back to #2, while there's a hot contender on the way from BROCKHAMPTON, whose "BOOGIE" climbs up 3 places to #3, equalling their chart peak they reached with "GUMMY" last month. Gyroscope's "Crooked Thought" slips back to #4, while Rita Ora's "Anywhere" is down to #5. The top 10 also has two new arrivals, the first of which is the relative newcomer though they've obviously been around the longest. With "Don't Don't Do It!" up to #8, N*E*R*D score their first ever top 10 hit, while for Kendrick Lamar, he's just up to a modest 11. Also climbing up is Samsaruh, who scores her 2nd top 10 hit to date with "Beautiful Killer" at #10. It will no doubt be hectic competition for those upper echelons of the chart with fast climbers from Jess Lock, Baker Boy, BROCKHAMPTON & Kelsey Bulkin vying for top 10 status.
NEW ENTRIES
The year finishes off, as usual, moreso in catch up mode than new music mode, because there's not much of the latter to go around. So leading the pack is a song that's been around for many months when the album it was released on was...released. We round off a very good year for Nothing But Thieves as they score a third entry with "I'm Not Made By Design" at #21. Next is an artist who have been long awaiting to break one hit wonder status in terms of top 40 hits. They've actually had two prior top 80 hits just this year. I am talking about Saskwatch who you might recognise as the band whose lead singer hosts triple j's roots music show. They had a big top 10 hit in 2015 with "I'll Be Fine", and now they have a second entry with "Finger Painting" at #25. Here's a different sort of catch up because I've been well versed on this song for quite some time. It's only just now that it's clicked with me that I enjoy it quite a lot. It also means that another one hit wonder from 2015 is returning to the fold, though this time with improved results, as E^ST gets her second entry to date with "Life Goes On" at #27, following #30 hit "The Alley". If I am on top of things correctly, DZ Deathrays have released two singles this year and neither really clicked with me on release. They have now though, and I'm more partial to the later released "Total Meltdown" which finds its way in at #31. The band previously charted twice in 2014 so this is their 3rd entry to date. The party couldn't end so soon, so I've got yet another BROCKHAMPTON track here to bring their tally of entries to 7, all of which are on the chart this week. This time it's the much more experimental "SISTER / NATION" which gets a nod, coming in at #33. What's something we've not seen in a little while? What about up and coming New Zealand artists who are difficult to Google?! Sounds good to me. Latest one is Bene, with her guitar driven slow pop jam "Tough Guy" making waves at #37 as the final debut of 2017.
E^ST and DZ Deathrays debuting <3 not the right Deathrays tho lbr while I've been away I've been able to listen to Saturation I and II, so hopefully I'll be able to make more comment about the tracks from III soon. Great to see Don't Don't Do It! and Beautiful Killer in the top 10 and good moves too for Lemon and When You Die.
Hmmm I feel like I'm the only one who couldn't get into Life Goes On. I do quite enjoy BOOGIE as I mentioned yesterday, so hopefully it goes to #1. Good to see small rises for Beautiful Killer, Lemon, When I Was Young and I Could Always.
Oh and Don't Don't Do It! is enjoyable as well Last edited:
