DISCUSSION FORUM

Rage is turning 30, and to commemorate, people can create a Top 5 playlist ('perfect playlist') of their favourite music videos since 1987.

There is a chance of your submitted Top 5 playlist being played on Rage during 14-17 April. Submission closes 7 April.

http://www.abc.net.au/rage/extras/default.htm

I am quite interested to see what people choose as their Top 5 Music Videos (since 1987), and the reasoning behind the Top 5.

Even if you don't submit on Rage, it would be nice to see what people's favourite music videos (since 1987) are and why.
'Iconic Videos' according to Rage in YouTube playlists.

Glad that some of my favourites are in the Iconic Videos list.

I also noticed that there is much less mainstream music in the 2007-2016 section.
Only a Top 5?? Blimey
surprised not to see Satisfaction by Benny Benassi in the above list. That video is iconic because it was the first of many (Call On Me, Destination Calabria etc) with sexy women plus it showed women doing something that is normally considered a man's job/task with using power tools.
Much to my surprise, I won the 2010 competition to program an hour of videos. Here's what they played from my list:

TRANSVISION VAMP Revolution Baby (MCA)
MEL & KIM That's The Way It Is (Supreme)
BANANARAMA Love In The First Degree (CBS)
THE BANGLES Hazy Shade Of Winter (Liberation)
NIK KERSHAW I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (MCA)
DEEE-LITE Runaway (Elektra)
EIGHTH WONDER I'm Not Scared (CBS)
DEBORAH HARRY Strike Me Pink (EMI)
OINGO BOINGO Stay (MCA)
MONACO Sweet Lips (Polydor)
YAZZ Never Can Say Goodbye (Warner)
COLDCUT featuring YAZZ & THE PLASTIC POPULATION Doctorin' The House (Sony)
NINA HAGEN Smack Jack (Sony)
THE THE Slow Train To Dawn (CBS)
YOUSSOU N' DOUR Undecided (Sony)

I chose videos that I wanted better copies of, that hadn't aired on rage in years, and that I knew they had (or once had), as part of the selection criteria (other than correctly guessing the missing videos on a playlist, based on there being some connection between the video and what came before and after it) was how much they 'liked' your playlist.

There were a couple of videos I asked for but they didn't have:

Yazz 'Where Has All the Love Gone' ('Never Can Say Goodbye' was my replacement)

Voice of the Beehive 'Monsters and Angels'

Nik Kershaw 'The Riddle' (they've since aired this)

Sabrina 'Sexy Girl' (they've since played)

Space 'Begin Again' (they aired it as part of the Wild Card special the following night)

Tori Amos 'Winter'

Deee-Lite's "Runaway' was a replacement choice for one of the above.

I'm probably not going to bother entering this one. No doubt among the winners will be many common videos they regularly air.
Here is a quick Top 5 that I have complied and submitted for the Rage 30

A very tough choice to cull other videos I have chosen, but I do have a long way to go in researching and viewing more music videos.
