Forum - General: TV Shows related - Eurovision Song Contest 2017

The Eurovision Song Contest 2017 will be the 62nd edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It will take place in the International Exhibition Centre in Kiev, Ukraine, following Ukraine's victory at the 2016 contest in Stockholm with the song "1944", written and performed by Jamala.
This will be the second time the contest takes place in Kiev, after 2005, and the fourth Eurovision event after hosting the Junior Eurovision Song Contests in 2009 and 2013. The contest is expected to consist of two semi-finals on 9 and 11 May and the final on 13 May 2017.

Forty-two countries will participate in the 2017 contest. Portugal and Romania are to return to the contest, both having been absent from the 2016 edition. After returning in 2016, Bosnia and Herzegovina has withdrawn again due to financial difficulties.

Russia announced their withdrawal on 13 April 2017, after their singer, Yulia Samoylova, was banned from entering Ukraine after the government said she had illegally travelled directly to Crimea from Russia, a region that was annexed by Russia in 2014, to give a performance.

Running order for the other five countries that are automatically in the Grand Final, is expected to be announced after the 2nd Semi Final.

The producers decide the running order of the show, after both semi finals have aired, and the artists just choose a lucky dip out of a hat, either "First Half" or "Second Half".

Positions #1 to #13. - 1ST HALF - of Top 26 Grand Final running order.

Positions #14 to #26. - 2ND HALF - of Top 26 Grand Final running order of songs.

To increase suspense, the running order will be announced early Friday morning 12th of May, so that the artists know which order they are performing in.

I have the statistical prediction of how things will end. Hopefully I can do the same thing for the semis but not sure as Eurovision has crept up on me this year. But I will definitely post the final predictions after the Grand Final particiapnats have been provided.

Get to pick up the CD tomorrow, so Eurovision season officially begins for me.
I'll have less going on for me this year so hopefully I'll be able to catch the grand final again this year.

Hello Billybretr! Fantastic predictions! man. Hopefully Australia wins
SEMI FINAL #1:

So many great performances during the show,
Standouts are Sweden, Greece and Australia!!

SHOCK UPSET!

For Latvia and Finland, highly underrated performances!!omg why didn't they qualify wtf

Voting algorithm issue!!

SEMI-FINAl #2:

Best performances of the show, would have to be Nethelrands,
F.Y.R Macedonia, San Marino, Romania and Denmark!

SHOCK UPSET! Loss for F.Y.R Macedonia!! wtf! She was robbed, but hey at least she got engaged!
Nah seriously such a sexy performance! Loved it!!

San Marino made history by becoming first artist to participate in Eurovision four times.
Sadly this time, she missed out on the Grand Final again.

Four participations, only once did she qualify to final and that was in 2014 with "Maybe" song.
Very upsetting when she didnt qualify.

Voting algorithm issues clearly happened.

WTF! So many crap quality song advanced to finals!

GRAND FINAL: predictions!

Finally the "Big 5" and host country perform.

Good to see Germany's Levina with a late quarter of show draw.

At #26!

My predictions are:

01.Italy

I really hope that Germany gets a good result!

Italy deserves to win! Gosh please let a dance song win this year

No more slow depressing ballads to win the contest, it's the last thing the world needs right now.
Worst. Eurovision. Ever.
Totally agree savagegrant.
Question for Eurovision pundits, does the next year being set in an earlier timezone mean that next year's will be a bit earlier in the morning? I found out this week that staying up past 5am is a bit of a challenge
I'm not sure Jinxie but this was easily the most entertaining moment of the night:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGmCV5q-ZkQ

This year had the least amount of trashy/cheesy/WTF moments I have ever seen in a Eurovision. It was such a disappointment. The winning song was boring. Our song was boring. So many of them were performed by ex-TV show contestants with little to no personality (I'm looking at you, Belgium). Anyway, Moldova's was probably my favourite performance of the night.
Hijinx, wrong way round. If anything it means it will have a later start for us in Aus. The 2 hour difference between Kiev and Lisbon would make for a 7am start on the east coast, if they went with the same local time kick off.

Oh you're totally right whoops. Looks like it'll be an early sleep for me next year if I plan to catch it.
EUROVISION DEPRESSING Ballads contest 2017 - HANGOVER DAY!

Analysis of the contest!!

BIGGEST UPSET! since 2011!! this overshadows the bookies favorite France from that year when "Sognu", ranked 15th, and lost to dark horse Ell & Nikki from Azerbaijan.

The WORST results! Since 2009, when Norway won in a landslide

Voting algorithm issue!! Wtf!!

PORTUGAL!! great lyrics, song concept and the singer did well, despite having health problems, where Salvador skipped the rehearsals.

Beautiful song, but I didn't want them to win.

Portugals highest result and first win ever!

Italy or Sweden deserved to win!!

Instead Europe chose yet another depressing ballad!

Lack of co-ordination from producers and stage production, as the singers didn't know where to walk, when they won the award, and where to look in the camera.

Lack of security issue in Kyiv! When a stage crasher came close to Jamala, who looked like she was about to laugh, but luckily regained composure.
OMG!! serious security breach there! Wtf communication issues in Kyiv as well, lack of security personnel.

BULGARIA!! 2nd place! Highest placing for the country every, over taking Poli Genovas 4th place from last year. "Beautiful Mess" vocals sounded way too premature and the performance was boring! This song is too overrated.

MOLDOVA's highest result ever!! What a comeback for Sunstroke Project!
who qualified for final several years ago and ranked 22nd.
Love the choreography and this could end up being a popular dance at weddings!! They deserved to win!! Lol doggy leg dance!

BELGUIM!! Very emotionless face, she is only 17 years old and very shy I can tell. Love the video clip and omg she sings well
live. She has such a good poker face! with terminator blank stare, amazing acting skills. She is Belgiums goth pop Lana Del Rey.

SWEDEN!! the best stage show set up of the night. Love the treadmills!! 2nd year in a row at #5. Why didn't they win!! Best choreography of the night. Such a catchy song!! I really wanted Sweden to win for a 7th time!!

ITALY!! love the gorilla, hype, lyrics, song concept, enthusiasm, and video clip! Which is most watched in Eurovision history!! Love the choreography, with the arm waves, and leg lifting technique is unique lol.
Gosh it's the biggest upset in history of contest! He was bookies favorite for 3 months!! Why didn't he finish 2nd or 3rd. Rigged voting issue!!

ROMANIA!!

I adore the rap/yodeling it fusion of genres! Such a catchy song that deserved to win!! Love the choreography and stageshow cannons! Sexy and modern song!

AUSTRALIA!!

9th place, we deserved higher than that. Lacked momentum!
I must admit that Isiaih looked nervous during semi final, but during Grand Final he performed really well, he looked confident and enjoyed being on stage. Love the revolving platform. I feel like this song lacked hype which Dami had last year. Good to know we had high televise score

NETHERLANDS!!

11th place for the Dutch equivalent of Dixie Chicks! Omg they slayed during final. Strong live vocals and they enjoyed being on stage.
So close to the top 10, and I'm glad they qualified to the final! Such a catchy song!

FRANCE!!

Omg! Sultriest song of 2017! so far!
I love the live vocals and the best visual backdrop in the history of the contest. OMG! Loved the Eiffel Tower and France imagery in background, it added so much to the performance, and made it very patriotic to watch.

AZERBAIJAN!!

The creepiest performance in the history of the contest. So creepy and good as well. Very interesting stage show concept.
Horseman of the apocalypse!! Lol on the ladder, looked so freaky and I can see lots of illuminati and black magic references throughout the performance. Strong live vocals, intriguing lyrics and stageshow!

UNITED KINGDOM!

Last minute post rehearsal boost in the betting polls,
was so worth it. Love the golden shell prop and dress.
Powerful and emotive live vocals, deserved a much higher ranking.
This song was UK's best entry and highest since 2011's song from Blue, which ranked 11th.

GREECE!!

"This is Love", such a good euro club banger. This song is so underrated and deserved to win or at least Top 10. Love the giant bird pool fountain on stage and platform which lifts, plus the holographic screens. However I was hoping for some more choreography from Demy, similar to the dancing she performed during the pre-contest promo tour.
Overall it's such a good dance song, which will be big Euro club chart hit.
She was robbed and deserved a much higher ranking.

DENMARK!!

Australian born Anya, joins Demy and together they share a joint 19th rank on the scoreboard, with 77 points each.

Good to see two Australian artists in Grand Final! Her vocals were powerful and flawless, love the pyrotechnics at end of performance and she sings so extremely well. Such an injustice not to see her win, or at least Top 5.

UKRAINE! Host country! Such a good rock song, really a standout this year, love the giant human head prop. Great live vocals, Ukraine's worst result since 20th rank, from back in 2005 when they hosted.

GERMANY!!

Love you Levina!! My favorite song this year!! Tallest woman in competition this year! "Perfect Life", is such a good song, catchy mid tempo pop song.
She was happy and confident on stage, good to see the audience enjoying it too.
She narrowly avoided last place, wtf she deserved Top 10! This song is still so underrated, but at least she is getting over 1.4 million YouTube views and lots of Spotify streams.
The backlash against Germany is unfair! It was so upsetting to see Levina get low results! despite a good running order draw.
She got snubbed by juries too.

Every year Germany moves up ranking by one place.

2015 - Black Smoke by Ann Sophie - 0 points (27th place)
2016 - Ghost by Jamie Lee - 1 point (26th place)
2017 - Perfect Life - 6 points (25th place)

I'm still so happy that she avoided last place, it's shocking how much hatred she receives, but I like how she shakes it off and stays positive

SPAIN

Deserved last place ranking, horrible and cringeworthy live vocals and song lyrics.

😀

Jessica Mauboy will represent Australia at Eurovision 2018:

https://www.sbs.com.au/news/i-definitely-feel-blessed-jessica-mauboy-will-represent-australia-at-2018-eurovision

Obvious choice for me, hopefully she can be the first to win it for us!
Hello Crazy! Yes it’s so good that’s Jessica Mauboy is representing
Our country next year.
Hope she chooses a good song, ballad or dance track?
I'm undecided on what sort of track she should pick. She went for the uplifting ballad last time round and it didn't really work, however I think ballads are her strong suit she just has to pick the right one. As long as it's better than Sea Of Flags I'll be happy. She could really win it for us if she does everything right!
