"Despacito" by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber logs a twelfth week at No.1 in Australia this week, becoming the second longest running No.1 for the century (so far).

Between 2000 and 2009 one song spent twelve weeks in the No.1 spot to become the longest running chart-topper for the first decade of this century, that being Eminem's "Lose Yourself" (2002-03, TW-99), and for the current decade we first saw a twelve week run occur for "Happy" by Pharrell Williams in 2014, and now "Despacito" has achieved the same amount of weeks at the top, with only one song sitting above it for most weeks this century/decade (so far); "Shape of You" by Ed Sheeran (TW-22 and now 8x▲Platinum in sales), and if "Despacito" stays for a further thirteenth week it will become the second longest running No.1 this year, this decade and this century.

"Despacito" is one of four songs to have spent twelve weeks at the top in Australia, I've already mentioned the Eminem and Pharrell songs, but the first was back in 1949 with the second weekly No.1 "Buttons and Bows" by Dinah Shore, all four songs now tied for equal 17th on the list of 'Most Weeks at No.1: Singles 1940-2017'. Also over on the list for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles 1940 to 2017, Justin Bieber is now outright 21st with his 27 overall weeks at the top, with the next totals to match or surpass being Olivia Newton-John (28 wks), and then Eminem and The Black Eyes Peas (30 wks each). whilst Kylie Minogue is sitting at 31 wks (her first #1 was this week in 1987, 30 years on 10th of August, "Locomotion").

So the intense pressure to take over the top spot in Australia falls to the weathered Imagine Dragons and their highest charted single here ever, "Thunder", which is spending its second week at the top of the Digital sales chart and second week at No.2 nationally (it's #7 on the streaming chart this week), whilst also on hold at it's peak for a second week is the Calvin Harris track "Feels" with Pharrell, Katy Perry and Big Sean, followed by the fourth and final hold at the top of the chart, "Strip That Down" for Liam Payne and Quavo at No.4.

Macklemore last week scored his sixth overall Top 10 single in Australia, and now this week his track "Glorious" is up two spots to a new peak of No.5 and now crowned Gold (●) in sales, becoming his fifth Top 5 single (all of his previous Top 5 songs have been No.1 hits). Down one spot to No.6 is DJ Khaled with Rihanna and Bryson Tiller and "Wild Thoughts", whilst jumping into the Top 10, up nine places to No.7, is Kesha with her new track "Praying", becoming her tenth Top 10 hit in Australia and her first entry to the ten in almost four years, as her last Top 10 appearance was on the Pitbull track "Timber" (HP-4, peaked Nov 2013), whilst the new track is sitting at No.2 on the digital sales chart.

The second former One Direction member in the Top 10 this week is Niall Horan who's "Slow Hands" drop down two places to No.8 and then Jonas Blue with William Singe are down one spot to No.9 with "Mama". Sam Hunt is the second act to climb into the Top 10 this week, as his first chart entry "Body Like a Back Road" is up five places to land at No.10, it's same current position as in the USA, where it peaked at No.6 back in April, with Australia becoming now the second country to make it a Top 10 hit.

* French Montana is on hold at No.11 for a second week with "Unforgettable", now▲Platinum.
* Maggie Lindemann and her "Pretty Girl" climbs up three spots to a new peak of No.14, and the track is now Gold (●) in sales
* Rising back up three places to No.16 are David Guetta with Justin Bieber on "2U", which scores a ▲Platinum certification this week.
* Climbing back up five places to a new peak of No.18 is Hailee Steinfeld and "Most Girls", which previously peaked at No.20.
* Louis Tomlinson lands his second consecutive No.20 hit, as his new entry from last week "Back to You" with Bebe Rexha and Digital Farm Animals is up this week six places to a new peak of No.20, matching the position his first chart entry "Just Hold on" with Steve Aoki achieved at the start of the year. Whilst other 1Der Liam Payne is back up ten spots to No.46 on the Zedd track "Get Low".
* Demi Lovato is up four places to a new peak of No.24 with "Sorry, Not Sorry", whilst her Cheat Codes track "No Promises" is back up a couple of spots to No.33.
* Leaping a massive twenty places to land at No.26 is the new Dua Lipa single "New Rules".
* Zara Larsson was in the country last week on her third promo tour, and this has helped her current chart entry "Symphony" with Clean Bandit to climb back up four spots to No.28.
* Three weeks ago the Selena Gomez track "Fetish" debuted at No.23, then last week it slumped to No.38, with a rebound this week of nine spots to land at No.29, helped also by the new video out this past week.
* After two weeks at No.37, the Peking Duk and AlunaGeorge track "Fake Magic" rises three spots to a land at a new peak of No.34.
* Camila Cabello is back-to-back with her two chart entries this week, with her appearance on the Major Lazer track "Know No Better" (HP-34) back up three spots to No.38 and right behind that is her first solo single "Crying in the Club", which is back up six places to a new peak of No.39.
* Khalid is back up seven spots to No.44 with his "Location" (HP-41).
* Imagine Dragons' other Top 100 entry "Believer" climbed to No.6 in the US this week, and here it is back up ten spots to No.45.
* Axwell/\Ingrosso jump up fourteen places to a new peak of No.52 with "More Than You Know".
* Ed Sheeran has four new singles certifications this week, the aforementioned "Shape of You" (now 8x▲Platinum), then "Castle on the Hill" is back up four to No.54 and newly 5x▲Platinum, lower down "Happier" is back up one spot to No.77 and now▲Platinum, with the fourth and final new cert being in the dropping section below. PLUS Ed regains the 'Longest Charted Single' status as his now 137 week running Top 100 entry "Thinking Out Loud" is back in at No.91.
* A bunch of new remixes for the Rudimental and James Arthur track "Sun Comes Up" have been coming out over the past few weeks, and this week the track is up fifteen spots to a new peak of No.57.
* Julia Michaels is back up ten places to No.66 with her "Issues", whilst her debut EP makes a lower albums chart entry this week.
* The newly released and highly sexual video for the Kendrick Lamar and Rihanna track "Loyalty" helps the track to returns to the chart at No.79 this week.
* The MØ track "Nights with You" bounces back up nine spots to No.80 this week and her guest on the Snakehips track "Don't Leave" is back in at No.96.
* Kyle is on hold at No.84 with his track "iSpy", which is now ▲Platinum in sales.
* Further returns come via recent tourist here Rag'N'Bone Man with "Skin" at No.86, "Paris" for The Chainsmokers at No.94, "Never Be Like You" by Flume at No.95 and finally back in at No.99 is the Eminem track "Lose Yourself".

* Leaving the Top 10 for the first time is the Shawn Mendes track "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back" (HP-4x2, WI10-14), which becomes his longest running Top 10 here, beating the ten weeks (Stitches) and nine weeks (Treat You Better) his two previous No.4 hits achieved.
* The other track leaving the Top 10 is "In the End" (HP-4, WI10-7a) for Linkin Park which returned to the Top 100 at No.10 last week, and this week drops down fifty-two places to land at No.62. Of the sixteen Linkin Park songs that entered the Top 100 last week, only three remain this week, with "Numb" down from 18 to No.65 and then "Heavy" with Kiiara drops from 39 to No.87.
* After two broken weeks at No.12, the Rita Ora track "Your Song" is back down three to No.15 and now crowned ▲Platinum in sales too.
* The fourth and final Ed Sheeran certification this week is for "Galway Girl", which drops seven places to No.36 and is now 3x▲Platinum.
* With the large majority of songs rebounding slightly or barely moving after last weeks Linkin Park return to the Top 100, this week there are not as many songs dropping down, with the next notable drop occuring for Katy Perry and her track "Swish Swish", down ten to No.70.

* #50 - I Like Me Better by Lauv, who was born Ari Straprans Leff in the US, has so far cracked the Top 40 in Germany, Bulgaria, Ireland and New Zealand with this single, with the song also charting recently in Canada, Switzerland, Sweden and the UK.

* #53 - Mi Gente by J. Balvin & Willy William is the first entry for both the Colombia born J (Jose) and French DJ Willy, who've seen their Spanish sung first collaboration reach the No.1 spot in Colombia and Spain so far, and the Top 10 in Portugal, Bulgaria and The Netherlands. The song samples a track called "Voodoo Song" by Willy too.

* #55 - Would You Ever by Skrillex x Poo Bear is the first new taste from a forthcoming Skrillex album, and he has teamed up with US songwriter, producer and vocalist Poo Bear (born Jason Boyd), with the song starting its chart career this week in Sweden (#91) and the UK (#68), and this becomes the tenth Top 100 entry for Skrillex here.

* #61 - Boys by Charli XCX is the eighth Top 100 entry for the British singer, and her second new song from her forthcoming third album (no date or title known as yet), following on from "After the Afterparty" (HP-30, peaked late Dec 2016). The video clip for this song features such artists as Joe Jonas, Diplo, Mark Ronson, Ty Dolla $ign. Sage the Gemini, Charlie Puth, Flume, Chromeo, Vance Joy, Will.i.am, G-Eazy, Stormzy, MNEK, Tinie Tempah, WSTRN, Lhalid and Wiz Khalifa amongst its many cameos.

* #64 - Either Way by Snakehips & Anne-Marie feat Joey Bada$$ is the fourth entry for the UK duo whose previous hit "Don't Leave" (HP-11) returns at No.96 this week, plus this becomes the eighth Top 100 entry for Anne-Marie too, who is sitting at No.88 on her first No.1 appearance "Rockabye" for Clean Bandit.

* #82 - Marmalade by Macklemore feat Lil' Yachty is the second solo entry for the rapper Macklemore, who climbs to No.5 this week with "Glorious".

* #92 - Came Here for Love by Sigala feat Ella Eyre is the fourth chart entry here for the DJ and producer born Bruce Fielder, and now the second entry for Ella Eyre, as she first appeared on the Rudimental track "Waiting All Night" (HP-6, June 2013).

* #100 - Kiss Somebody by Morgan Evans is the first entry for the 32 year old Australian Country singer from Newcastle, New South Wales. The now Nashville USA based singer is expected to release his second album later in the year, the follow-up to his self-titled debut set (HP-20, March 2014).

Ed Sheeran returns for a fifth run at No.1 on the ARIA Albums Chart with his third album "÷ (Divide)" now racking up an eighteenth overall week at the top of the Australian charts.

"÷ (Divide)" racks up an eighteenth week at the top by climbing back up two places to the top spot, and now takes Ed's tally of weeks at No.1 in Australia to 27 weeks (from 3 No.1 albums), making him equal fourteenth on the list for 'Accumualted Weeks at No.1: Albums; 1965-2017' alongside the 27 weeks amassed from two No.1 albums by Skyhooks in the 1970's. Overall the eighteenth week at the top matches three previous albums who have achieved this tally, "Abbey Road" for The Beatles (1969/70), "Silk Degrees" for Boz Scaggs (No.1 this time in 1977) and the last to do so was spending its 14th of 18 weeks at the top back in 1994, "Music Box" by Mariah Carey.

Only four of last weeks Top 10 album remain within this weeks ten, and after a single week at the top the Lana Del Rey fifth album "Lust for Life" drops down six places to No.7, becoming her fourth such album to debut and spent only one week at No.1 in Australia. Linkin Park's most recent studio album "One More Light" falls back down five places to No.9 and the "Baby Driver" soundtrack is down one spot to No.10 this week.

The first of six Top 10 debuts this week is the fifth studio album for Canada's Arcade Fire entitled "Everything Now", which is the new UK No.1 album this week and here it comes in at No.2, and by doing so it becomes the bands highest charted album here, beating the No.3 position of their last albums chart entry "Reflektor" (HP-3, Nov 2013). The Voice 2017 winner for Australia Judah Kelly takes his debut album "Count on Me" straight into the chart at No.3 this week, followed by the 27th studio album for rock-icon Alice Cooper entitled "Paranormal" in at No.4. Alice last scored a Top 10 album in Australia with his 1989 album "Trash" (LP#17, HP-5, peaked Jan 1990), and overall this becomes his sixth Top 10 album since he first cracked the ten with "School's Out" (LP#5, HP-5) in August of 1972. Alice's highest charted album so far here was "Lace & Whiskey" (LP#9, HP-3x2, peaked late May 1977)

Local singer Dan Sultan sees his third studio album entitled "Killer" debut at No.5 this week, becoming his second Top 10 entry and now fourth Top 100 entry, as his 2014 EP "Blackbirds" debuted and peaked at No.4 (April), and then coming in at No.6 is the sixth studio album for Passenger entitled "The Boy Who Cried Wolf", becoming his fourth Top 10 here. And the third Australian entry to the Top 10 this week is new at No.8, "Beautiful - A Tribute to Carole King", which features local acts performing Carole's many penned and sung songs by such acts as Daryl Braithwaite, Guy Sebastian, Human Nature, Dami Im, Rick Price, Tina Arena, Samantha Jade and Vika & Linda Bull.

* The promo tour for Zara Larsson this past week helps her "So Good" album to rise thirty-two spots to land at No.40.
* Last weeks debut just outside of the Top 50 for Michael Ball & Alfie Boe on "Together" this week cracks the fifty and climbs up eleven spots to a new peak of No.45.
* Back up nine spots to No.56 is the Khalid album "American Teen".
* Further returns occur with albums for Adam Harvey & Beccy Cole with "The Great Country Songbook Vol.II" (#66), "Tapestry" for Carole King (#75, helped by the tribute album), "Same Kind of Different" for Dean Lewis (#81, vinyl just released), best of collections for Maroon 5 (#93) and Fleetwood Mac (GH #99), whilst the Guns N' Roses set "Appetite for Destruction" is back in at #100.

* Lorde is the first of six albums to leave the Top 10 this week, with "Melodrama" (HP-1x1, WI10-6) down one to No.11, and two of last weeks new Top 10 entries also fall out, with the Vera Blue set "Perennial" (HP-6, WI10-1) down eleven to No.17 and Tyler, The Creator with his "Flower Boy" (HP-8, WI10-1) album dropping thirty-one spots to No.39.
* The other Top 10 dropouts are all Linkin Park sets, with "Hybrid Theory" (HP-2xnow4, WI10-24now) down twelve to No.14, "Meteora" (HP-2, WI10-9now) dropping seventeen to No.22 and then "Minutes to Midnight" (HP1x1, WI10-10now) falling fifty spots to No.57. So of the eleven Park sets in the Top 100 last week, this week it is reduced to just four.
* "Witness" for Katy Perry drops eight spots this week to No.20.
* The new Calvin Harris set "Funk Wav Bounces Vol.1" drops nine to No.25.
* Three weeks ago Meg Mac debuted at No.2 with her "Low Blows" album, this week it is down twelve spots to No.27.
* There has just been a new Harry Styles single announced, which should help his self-titled album to rise again soon, as this week the album drops eleven places to No.34.
* Nickelback drops seventeen places to No.35 with their "Feed the Machine" set.
* Bruno Mars descends twelve spots to No.43 with his "24k Magic" album.
* The recent Jay-Z set "4:44" drops twenty-four spots this week to No.46.
* London Grammar drop twelve to No.48 with their "Truth is a Beautiful Thing".
* Two of last weeks three re-entries for Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu survive within the Top 100 this week, with "Gurrumul" down twenty-two places to No.49 and his "Gospel Album" down ten to No.76.
* Stone Sour are down eighteen to No.52 with "Hydrograd", whilst Royal Blood fall nineteen to No.54 with "How Did We Get So Dark?".
* The new Vance Joy single push for their old album could be over, as "Dream Your Life Away" drops back down seventeen places to No.63.
* Pete Murray's "Camacho" falls fourteen places to No.65, and the "Night Thinker" EP for another local singer in Amy Shark is down twenty-two spots to No.67.
* The Guns N' Roses "Greatest Hits" set is down thirty-three places to No.70.
* The soundtrack "Sing" drops thirteen places to No.71, "The Descendants 2" TV Soundtrack is down twenty-one to No.85, and the "Beauty & the Beast" set drops fourteen to No.89.
* This week in 1967 The Beatles "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" went to No.1 for the first of 30 weeks at the top, and this week the re-packaged edition of the album is down eighteen to No.88.
* Big drops out of the Top 100 from last weeks Top 50 are for Linkin Park in "Collision Course" (#28), "The Hunting Party" (#38), "Living Things" (#40), A Thousand Suns (#47) and the box-set "Studio Collection" (#49), whilst also albums for k.d. Lang (#30), In This Moment (#43) and the Nine Inch Nails EP "Add Violence" (#44).

* #2 (LP#5) - Everything Now by Arcade Fire

* #16 (LP#4) - 61-615 by O'Shea is the fourth album for the husband & wife team of Jay and Mark O'Shea, and with this album entering within the Top 20 it becomes their highest charted album, beating the No.24 peak that their second set "One + One" achieved in February of 2013.

* #28 (LP#9) - Love and Blood by Shane Nicholson becomes the local singers fifth Top 30 album in Australia (two of which were with his wife Kasey Chambers), and his first studio album since his 2015 No.16 set "Hell Breaks Loose".

* #29 (LP#3) - Worlds Apart by Make Them Suffer is the Perth bands third albums chart entry and lands one place higher than their 2015 set "Old Souls" (LP#2, HP-30), making this now their highest charted album, as their debut set "Neverbloom" debuted and peaked at No.56 in 2012.

* #97 (EP#1) - Nervous System by Julia Michaels is the debut seven-track EP for the singer and songwriter from Davenport, Iowa, who is sitting at No.66 on the singles chart with her first Top 10 hit here "Issues" (HP-5, peaked in late February of this year).

Kesha's brutal retaliation really sticks out like a sore thumb next to all the songs about treating women as objects

btw oops I mixed up Zacco/guru on the preds, I've fixed it on the results but cbb doing the rest

Surely you can at least be grateful to Sam Hunt for mentioning both how fast he's travelling and the speed limit, and even going some way to explaining why his speed is such in comparison to the limit.

hahahaha, I can ignore that he's driving with his eyes closed because that's far more important to me!
Despacito has just broken and all=time streaming record on Youtube and is likely to be the first video to make 3 billion streams. Interestingly, two of the top three most streamed videos are for songs not in English.

The top songs by category are:

Overall: Despacito
Australian: Fallin' - Jessica Mauboy
Streaming: Despacito
Australian streaming: Fake Magic - Peking Duk
and Aluna George
Dance: Feels - Calvin Harris
Club: Be Randy - Dom Dolla and Torren Foot
Digital: Thunder
Streaming: Despacito

Another interesting point is that we could see another record broken or tied for most weeks at number 1 if Despacito keeps going. We will know in another few weeks.

Ouch at that Sam Hunt crap blocking Unforgettable from being Top 10 By just a handful of units
It's still gaining nicely on iTunes & Spotify so I'm hoping Unforgettable can finally crack the top 10 next week.
Hope you're right Hijinx!
Guess Mauboy's chances of a top 10 are all but gone... gee when was the last time a track that has hit #1 and spent this much time in the top 10 on iTunes failed to crack the top 10 on ARIA? Really showing how little downloads contribute to the actual chart these days.
What's odd is that her streaming is still picking up, she might soon crack the Spotify top 50 which could bring some stability even if her sales go down (see Peking Duk who left the sales top 50 around the same time they entered the streaming top 50, and are still climbing on ARIA).

The whole thing is kind of Spotify's fault for being so lazy at gearing their content to different countries correctly. While I'm the first person to complain about dry reference pools, you can see a sort of paradigm shift with Spotify gaining such a large market grasp and then doing its own thing. This could be a good thing in that there's a chance to have something catch your ears that would never reach it if you were only exposed to strictly mandated radio/TV playlists, but in terms of the chart it ends up boiling down so heavily to algorithms that the actual chart becomes something of a homogeneous muck.

For instance, logging onto Spotify today, I get a large banner for "#1 Most Wanted Hits", a playlist filled with 'the latest and greatest chart topping hits'. It looks like this https://open.spotify.com/user/digster.fm/playlist/7JXJKP3xMvIMbEBBGApTPQ
There is not a single Australian artist featured on it, and yet it's promoted right towards me and I imagine thousands of other Australians. It's just one of many instances where content is not efficiently localised and thus another hurdle that Australian artists are required to leap over in order to make any impact. Even the playlists that ARE catered to us do a lousy job. Hot Hits Australia is big enough that just getting a song featured on it guarantees the equivalent of 500 chart sales a week. It's very rare that a song featured on the playlist isn't sitting on the ARIA Chart (and most often that's just because ARIA rarely acknowledges songs until they reach the digital top 100).

Right now a grand total of 5 songs on its always 50-strong playlist are Australian, but they're not hits that were broken by Spotify, rather ones that got through despite it. They're also pretty much the same ones as they were months ago, Bliss N Eso & Dean Lewis have been keeping up the very low quota for months. What they all have in common is that they're pretty much always selecting exclusively Australian artists that are already big enough to make some sort of impression, or have somehow managed to crack the ARIA top 50 despite them so they finally get acknowledged. I mean, it wasn't until Amy Shark got voted with the #2 song of the year and reached the top of the iTunes chart that they bothered acknowledging her, by then it just seems pointless. The only reason her next single didn't crack the ARIA top 50 is because it was never featured on the list, and thus had to fight to beat the 50 songs that were getting that leg up, which just wasn't practical.

We were lucky last year to have Flume & Sia scoring big hits to save face, but without international stars in the wings, it's just showing how much Spotify just don't give a shit about promoting local content.
And that is yet another reason I can't jump on the bandwagon of streaming.
Two songs this year alone have amassed ten week plus long runs on which was unheard of even five years ago!
It'll be more of the same tripe and less and less variety on the chart, say hello to the Spotify TOP 50 to a radio near you soon
In a way I think the biggest problem might just be that Spotify invite listeners to hear their local & international top 50 charts, which just means that success begets more success and runs at the top are perpetuated somewhat artificially. There's no doubt to me that Mi Gente is currently amassing a whole bunch of streams purely from people seeing it at #1 on the Worldwide top 50 and streaming it right from there, and that'll just keep it at #1 longer.

It's a bit like how we'd have the iTunes 'Top 10' effect and songs would get/lose a bunch of sales depending on if they're on display on the iTunes top 10, like how Jason Derulo's Fight For You vanished from the chart the moment it left the iTunes top 10
To be honest Beanster, we were close to having 2 songs spending close to 10 weeks at the top in a calendar year in 2006, 2011 and 2014 when charts were sales only. And Even if charts were still based on sales, Shape of You and Despacito would have spent 10 weeks at the top each at least.
Both songs are just huge hits.

Plus I remember some very long rush occur in the Top 50 Back in 2006 / 2007.

I prefer the way charts are at the moment than What they were in the mid 2000s

The exposure "problem" has Always existed anyway, like how Daylight, Right Now went Top 40 purely cos they were advertised on the iTunes homepage. I also remember in 2012 when Ass Back Home vanished from the chart when it left the iTunes Top 10 lol

Yeah, it's just kind of a different beast now where instead of having some random singles deliberately pushed into the chart each week, you get a slow metamorphosis of a chart derived by whatever is getting more playlist spots each week with every chart looking more or less the same. Redbone's popularity (in Australia) peaked higher back in February than it did last month, it just got higher on ARIA because it had more playlist spots this time around
