Forum - Personal Charts: Your Special Occasion Charts - Benji's New Retro Hottest 100 thread Pt.2 1993 on

Hello

Welcome to Part 2 of my retro Hottest 100 thread.

This is an update of a similar thread I did in 2015. I recently decided to update the lists I posted there, but instead of bumping that very messy thread, I decided to split it in two and make two new threads containing the new lists.

Part 1 (1975-92) is here:
http://www.australian-charts.com/forum.asp?todo=viewthread&id=50141

My original thread is here:
http://www.australian-charts.com/forum.asp?todo=viewthread&id=45426

In this thread, I will be posting my own personal Hottest 100 lists for each year from 1993 up to 2016 and probably beyond.

The rules and make-up of these lists will be slightly different to those in Part 1.

This time, seeing as there is already an individual year Hottest 100 for the years in this countdown, I don't need to try and predict it. Instead, it will be more about my personal taste. However, it will be a slight advantage to a song if it did well in the actual countdown.

Also, there will be more than 100 songs in each countdown, as I've been supplied with many invaluable links reminding me what songs were out in each year. I will post 101+ first, then 100-1.

With the exception of 1993, which lost a few songs to 1992 and a few tracks that were too 'pop' for my liking, each list will contain the original Hottest 100 list in it. Note that on a few occasions* a song appeared in two Hottest 100s. I will only allow it in once.
(* the songs affected were listed in my old thread, see link above)

Apologies in advance if anyone disagrees with what year I put a song in. Sometimes I found it difficult to marry a year up if an album was released in one year when a single from it was released in a different year (usually the year after), also if a song didn't otherwise become big until a year after it's parent album was released. For the songs that were in the original Hottest 100s I've stuck with the year they appeared in even if their albums came out earlier. Happy if you make your own list and disagree with my definition.

I may make minor edits to these lists as I go along, if I find songs that I missed.

I won't be posting lists as frequently as in Part 1, as it's taking me much longer to re-order so many songs! It might only be once a week.

They ain't my faves, no

Forgot to mention that the right hand column is where the song finished in the actual countdown, and NA means that it wasn't in the countdown, though I'm sure everyone has worked that out by now

Might only post the songs 50 at a time from here on in, as I am taking much longer to put these lists together.
Yeah, I figured you wouldn't add any songs you didn't like, so anything before the last one is the songs you dislike.

And here is part 3 of my 1993 list (#50-1) (edited 17/11/17, moved some songs in from 1992)

I removed Ace Of Base, East 17 and a couple of other pop songs from the list, don't think they would be allowed in the Hottest 100 in other years. Plus I can't stand any of those songs in their own right, so there's that reason too.

At #10 in the list is the brooding title track from Tool's undertow album.

At #9 is the closing track from Pablo Honey by Radiohead, Blow Out. It's still one of my favourite songs of theirs and one of the great album closing tracks. Mucho underrated among Radiohead tracks.

Number 8 is Bjork's beautiful Venus As A Boy, still my favourite track of hers after all of these years.

Coming in at #7, their highest ever position in my lists, is Depeche Mode with the swinging, swaying, thumping I Feel You.

Number 6 is The Cruel Sea with one of their best known and best songs, The Honeymoon Is Over.

At #5, very close to their actual Hottest 100 position is the ubercool Kim Deal with The Breeders and Cannonball.

At #4 is the seriously underrated Fuzzy by Grant Lee Buffalo. I only discovered this song a bit later but I can't believe this song didn't make the Hottest 100 when Dixie Drug Store did.

Pearl Jam are at #3 with their literally reflective Rearviewmirror, their finest song IMO. It's made its way into subsequent All-Time Hottest 100s, so perhaps I'm not the only one who thinks this.

The Underground Lovers (affectionally known as The Undies back in the day) are at #2 with their remix of Your Eyes, a song that still sounds amazing today.

Tool get to #1 in their second year, with the magnificent, slow-burning Sober.

What makes Duran Duran qualified for 1993, but not for the 80s?

Also, you should show this to the guys behind the Hottest 100s and 1000s podcast.
Very good question juicer. I guess it's that 'Indie Cred' everyone hears about. It's a bit subjective. The 80s Duran Duran would never have made it to a Hottest 100 but the 90s version were a bit older and wiser and not 'glamorous' anymore so that's why they were in. Same goes for 80s Madonna vs 90s Madonna and 80s Kylie vs 90s Kylie vs 00s Kylie.

Thanks, would love to, will have a hunt for them.

And here is the rest of 1994.

(edit 17/11/17 )

Decided to put 'I Alone' by Live in the 1995 list, as it appeared in both the 1994 and 1995 Hottest 100s.

If you're wondering why there are still 101 'Real H100' songs and 'Hallelujah' is included when it didn't make the Hottest 100 that year, it's because, at the suggestion of HiJinx, I have included songs that made an all time Hottest 100 but didn't make the Hottest 100 of their year. Much like he did when he did his 'Hottest 2000' a few years back.

Like the actual chart, the two big Offspring songs of the year finish back to back, at #11 and #10, and in the same order. Very hard to split them.

Nick Cave (and The Bad Seeds) are in the Top 10 yet again at #9, with the brooding but beautiful Do You Love Me?

At #8 is one of the decade's top dance tracks by Itch-E and Scratch-E.

The actual #1 by The Cranberries is at #7. It remains a powerful song.

Severed Heads finish two places better at #6 than they did a decade earlier with their remix of 'The Dead Eyes Opened'.

At #5 is probably the Beastie Boys second best all-time song, accompanied by their best ever film clip.

Kylie Minogue - yes Kylie Minogue - is at #4 with Confide In Me, easily her best ever song which was not out of place in the Hottest 100 then or now.

Number 3 is 'Closer' by Nine Inch Nails, unlucky to miss out on the actual #1 and #1 in my list. Still Nine Inch Nails' masterpiece.

Runner-up is the beautiful Fade Into You by Mazzy Star, still gives me goosebumps every time I head it.

Jeff Buckley released 'Grace' during 1994, which has several tracks in this countdown as well as 1995, including the #1 with his immortal cover of Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah', which also gives me goosebumps whenever I hear it. For best results, listen to this song in a darkened room, alone.

Here is the rest of 1995

Firstly it addresses the travesty of The Bends from Radiohead not having a single track in the actual 1995 countdown. There are four tracks from this album my version (and another in the 1994 list).

The Foo Fighters, Alanis Morissette and silverchair all came out with strong first albums. Grinspoon make an early appearance on the back of them winning the JJJ new artist Unearthed comp.

Number 10 is a veteran of several of my Hottest 100 lists, Natalie Merchant (ex-10000 Maniacs), with the smooth, beautiful Carnival.

Oasis have two Top 10 entries, the first at #9 with the rocking Morning Glory.

At #8 is Live with Lightning Crashes. I always thought thunder crashed and lightning flashed, so I always get this song name wrong! Anyway, its a beautiful song and their best.

Number 7 is another bonafide Top Ten Pearl Jam classic with Better Man.

Radiohead are at Number 6 with Fake Plastic Trees with the fifth and best Bends song. It's gone on to make several All Time lists and deservedly so.

Alannis Morrissette is at #5 with one of the year's defining tracks, the pH 1.5 You Oughta Know.

Number 4 are the Smashing Pumpkins with the actual Hottest 100 runner-up, and their best ever track, the rocking Bullet With Butterfly Wings.

Jeff Buckley comes in at #3 with the sweet Last Goodbye, again a deserved all-time track.

#2 is a Britpop classic and Pulp's best song, Common People. I could definitely relate to Jarvis' lyrics then and still can now.

Oasis make #1 in the list as well with Wonderwall, as it did the JJJ 20 year Hottest 100 in 2013. It would look wrong not to have it there IMO. It's still the definitive Britpop track.

Just a question, but did Triple J play a lot of hip-hop music? Because I'd like to see some more in these lists.
They did. The mid to late 90s werent the greatest times for hip hop IMO but it will appear more towards the end of the decade and into the 2000s
Apologies everybody, I've been away for the last week and a half - and couldn't take my lists with me

Now for one of my favourite years of music: 1996
I don't know about you but it was pure joy for me when Double J played the actual 1996 list in full earlier this year.

The Britpop battle was still in full swing, while grunge was in its death throes.

I managed to get to 170 songs this time. Here are #170-#101:
(Edit 14/10/17: make that 175)

And here is the rest of '96.

Elastica and the lovely Saffron come in at #10 with Ready To Go.

The classic club anthem Born Slippy (.NUXX) (must have the .NUXX in there, remember NUXX files?) comes in at Number 9 for Underworld, who continue to make great club music to this day.

Speaking of classic club tracks, The Prodigy released their classic tracks 'Firestarter' and 'Breathe', both making the Top 10 (#8 and #2), both before their parent album was released.

Oh Yeah and Groovin' are two songs that make me very, very nostalgic for the summer of '96 and as such finish very high on my list (#7 and #5).

Everything But The Girl make their first appearance (but not Tracey Thorn) at #6 with their chart-topping remix of Missing.

The actual JJJ #1 by Spiderbait finishes close to #1 (#4) on my list with their ode to the music industry.

One hit wonder Babylon Zoo come in at #3 with his Bowie-esque (absolutely nothing wrong with that) Spaceman.

And Powderfinger put out what I believe is their best song - forget that Odyssey #5 stuff. I picked it at #1 in the Hottest 100 sweep I was in that year and I stick by it!

I find it odd that a number of these songs missed the 96 Hottest 100. Missing, Children, Don't Speak, Don't Look Back In Anger, Champagne Supernova, Ironic, Not an Addict, Hey Jupiter, How To Make Gravy, Peaches, Charmless Man and Wonder all seem like classic songs and were all pretty popular at the time so to be beaten by more obscure songs and a song like How Bizzare makes it just that especially when you look at Hottest 100s previously and songs like Deep and Dreams made it.
Hammer, meet head of nail.

That reason is a large part of my motivation for doing these lists. That and revisiting some of the forgotten gems of this era, and maybe bringing these to more people's attention.

The 1995 (especially) and the 1994 lists were similar in this regard.

1996 extended to 175 songs, minor updates. 1997 imminent

We move on to 1997. Along with 1994 and 1996 so far, the actual Hottest 100 was one of my favourites, and it was coupled with the best Hottest 100 I ever had But I digress....

This is the year of the Whitlams' great Enternal Nightcap album, from which No Aphrodisiac came in at Number 1 of the actual Hottest 100 that year, and several other songs appeared in the 1997 and 1998 Hottest 100s as well.

Silverchair (the members of which were 18 now) released their excellent second album, Freakshow, which will also supply several songs in this list.

The Prodigy released their seminal Fat Of The Land album, two songs from which featured high on the 1996 list, but with many more tracks available to come.

And of course, Radiohead released OK Computer, widely regarded as one of the all-time greatest albums, and I must say I agree. One song from this album has already appeared in the 1996 list, but there will be many more in 1997 and 1998.

Kylie Minogue was still indie enough to appear in the Hottest 100 this year.

Again I have a list of 175 songs.

Here are songs #175-101:

Not going to hang about this time - here are #100-1:

I must thank K8 for reminding me of Leonardo's Bride - such a lovely voice and hence two appearances in my Top 100.

Have just noticed how many songs from this year have made the subsequent Hottest 100 all time lists.

Radiohead have two classic OK Computer songs in my Top 10, just like in the actual Hottest 100. Karma Police is at #10 and Paranoid Android is at #5.

Australia's Pendulum (I believe different to another Aussie electronica act named Pendulum of the 2000s) make it in at #9 with their eerie electronica of 'Coma'.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit it, but I still love Tubthumping, takes me back to my actual p***-up days - it's at Number 8. It was rather overplayed then though.

The Living End came crashing onto the scene at the end of the year with their anthemic 'Prisoner Of Society'. They make it in at #7.

Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds make the Top 10 again at #6 with his most beautiful song, Into My Arms.

(Still) my fave silverchair song Freak comes in at #4.

The actual #1 No Aphrodisiac from The Whitlams comes in at #3. I was living 1500 miles away from a girl and the home town I loved at the time so this song resonated with me a lot.

The Fooies released their classic second album too - giving us several songs in this list as well as 1998, including the classic Everlong at #2. Still don't know how it didn't make the original 1997 or 1998 Hottest 100s - was it never released as a single, and if not, why on earth not?

The Verve also released their Urban Hymns album, and its opening statement was the mighty Bitter Sweet Symphony. It's my #1 of this very strong year. Another song that has consistently finished highly in the All Time Hottest 100s.

I will update the 1993-1996 summaries similar to above when I get a chance - watch those spaces.
Finally we get to the good stuff

Been an avid follower since the beginning and even been playlisting your lists on Lastfm

Anyway as some may know, to me this is part of the golden era of Australian chart music and Australian music in general (early '96 through to early '99) and coincidentally contain the best Hottest 100's ever

On your summaries first, yes Leonardo's Bride were indeed a wonderful band and you could forever get lost in Abby Dobson's lovely vocal.

I was really late into loving Radiohead but I did enjoy several songs at the time. I still at times struggle to love them as an album act though but as time goes on they definitely did push the envelope by offering something nobody has been able to replicate and probly never will.

Pendulum 90's is a totally different act to the Pendulum of 00's (How does this happen?)

'Prisoner Of Society' was an absolute monster movement in Australian music in general imo, I put it up there with 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' as being the leader of a genre movement. Apart from the bubblegum pop movement of '99-'00 the next big thing would be 'Chop Suey' for me.

Like Radiohead I was very late into Nick Cave. 'Into My Arms' is indeed a very special track.

Freak? Really? It's good but imo the majority of Frogstomp was better but their best was to come later on for me

'No Aphrodisiac' is just one of those universally timeless tunes that we'll continue to hear until we die, superb and Tim Freedman's best work easily.

At the time the Foo Fighters were still gaining their credit and becoming the live band they were and still are. 'Monkey Wrench' & 'My Hero' got a lot more exposure on radio and RAGE but 'Everlong' over the years has become their go to track especially live and of course because of that wonderful video. It was indeed released as a single but again wasn't the monster it should've been.
They began turning heads here in Australia after the 'Learn To Fly' single/video.

Now I love Urban Hymns and I like 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' but give me 'The Drugs Don't Work' any day!

Look forward to 1998!!!!!

Why thankyou BeansterBarnes, I'm honoured! Playlist away

I agree '96 to '99 was a very special time in Australian indie music and chart music in general. We had Recovery to look forward to every Saturday morning to get exposure to this great music too. This time coincided with my first time away from home and independence.

Yep - Freak. Some of their Diorama songs were excellent too I must admit. Very interesting to track their musical growth from 14 year olds again.

I will start on 1998 this weekend, and hopefully by next weekend I'll finish it - another 175 songs to get through!

Btw finally somebody gives some love to Cold Contagious! I still remember only ever catching the clip one late Friday night but will always remember their epic performance on Recovery
Easily their best track and I really think they are an underrated group in general.

Caught up on this one as well now

I guess this is a more subjective list on your personal tastes rather than what might have been so I won't make any comments on the order of the songs, (other than Paranoid Android not #1 )

Looking at 1997 (won't go all the way back), I'll add some songs I would have included (in my personal list)

I WOULD HURT A FLY Built To Spill
HOW HIGH The Charlatans (Prefer this to North Country Boy)
BOYS BETTER Dandy Warhols
MOGWAI FEAR SATAN Mogwai
R U STILL IN 2 IT? Mogwai
SUMMER Mogwai
AVENGING ANGELS Space
THE LAST AUSTRALIAN GUITAR HERO TISM

Awaiting 1998 eagerly!!
The 1998 list is taking longer than expected, but that's because there will be 200 songs in it!!

Boys Better from the Dandy Warhols will be in it.

You're right about The Living End Beanster, I've seen the 1998 and 1999 shortlists and there are several Australian ska-influenced groups springing up such as Area 7.

Sorry about Paranoid Android but at least I had it higher than in the actual countdown
Blimey that was tough ... but I have completed the 1998 list. All 200 songs (for the first time)

Not as strong as the two years prior, but I have definitely enjoyed revisiting the music of this year. '

Some great tracks in this list. Was Lauryn Hill played on JJJ? I sort of fell out of JJJ around this time as Wild FM was more my thing.

Also Madonna confuses me as sometimes she is on JJJ and other times she's not? What's the story with her? Pre 90s she has had one hit make the all time lists but many more could have especially Like A Virgin which has a segment named after it on JJJ. I would have thought Vogue and Justify My Love would have been JJJ hits. Erotica and Secret have a JJJ appeal to them too. I could see Frozen and Ray of Light on JJJ and then Beautiful Stranger, Music and Don't Tell Me either made the Hottest 100 or on the voting lists. Nothing from her thereafter. Die Another Day could have had potential. I am glad she has featured on JJJ but confused by how they feature some and not all her music.
Not 100% sure about Lauryn Hill but I know the Fugees were played on JJJ two years before. But 'The 'Miseducation of Lauryn Hill' was and is a highly regarded hip hop album.

Madonna confuses me too. I agree with you about Vogue and Justify My Love, then she got lost in her own excesses in the early 90s, before coming back in a big way with the 'Ray Of Light' album. she did make the actual 1999 and 2000 Hottest 100s before losing her 'edge' disappearing again in the early 00s. Like you I thought 'Ray Of Light' and particularly 'Frozen' were worthy of making the list too.
Speaking of 'Frozen', it's in my Top 100 of 1998, which is posted below:

At #10 is Charlie No.2 (Buy Now Pay Later) by the Whitlams, the beautiful ode to Stevie Plunder. A hangover from 1997, yes, but one of their best songs.

#9 is Do The Evolution by Pearl Jam, who were as popular as ever, and accompanied by a spectacular if depressing animated video.

Peep Show fans will recognise #8, Flagpole Sitta, such a fine, angsty song. I still had plenty of angst back then.

#7 is the runner up in the actual countdown, the autobiographical? song that introduced Ben Lee to the wider public, Cigarettes Will Kill You. Still stands up well.

#6 is Jeff Buckley's beautiful posthumous love ballad Everybody Wants You, which is still as good as anything on Grace IMO.

#5 are Perth's (which was where I happened to be living in 1998), aka the Jebs, with their great breakup song, Harpoon. As Wil Anderson once said on rage, if your partner plays this song without saying anything else, it's bad news for you.

To keep the misery going, #4 is Brick by Ben Folds Five, his very dark but beautiful ode to relationships gone bad.

#3 is Powderfingers second finest song and still relevant ode to Pauline Hanson, The Day You Come. Such great guitar.

#2, another one to file under 'How the hell did it not make the Hottest 100?'. I speak of the mighty God Is A DJ by Faithless. Still one of, if not the, best beats of the decade.

And at #1, Massive Attack go one better than they did in 1991, and Liz Fraser goes four better than she did in 1983 with the sublime Teadrop, and its amazing 'baby' videoclip. The whole song just takes me to a better place and time. I do wonder what that baby is up to now, aged 19

1998 was a good year and I like your #1 much much better than the actual #1 .

I had been really into the music of the mid-late 80s and early 90s but all the bands I loved were gone (Pixies, Smiths et al) or not making great albums (Cure, Ride etc) by the mid 90s and the bands that replaced them I just wasn't into (grunge and industrial) so I had lost interest in new music to an extent.

I heard the Gomez song Whipping Picadilly on the radio while in England late that year and picked up the CD Bring It On, which I loved. Also heard Placebo while over there and got Without You I'm Nothing. First new music I had bought for a while. Got home and played these to my friends, who introduced me to Neutral Milk Hotel, Godspeed and Boards of Canada.

So in honour of 1998, here is my Hottest 51 of the year

Right, blurb done.

Thanks OBOne for your list and feedback first of all.

I don't dislike the actual #1 in the '98 Hottest 100 nearly as much as I did then, in fact it has grown on me enough over the years to make it to #16.

I too nearly missed UNKLE, until someone posted its amazing videoclip a few days ago. Then I was reminded it was indeed 1998 when it was released. It was in fact the last song added.

First thing to say is that I'll have to check Neutral Milk Hotel out! You are clearly a fan. As well as the other songs not common to my list. Also I'll have to check Boads Of Canada's earlier music out as I go through the years, I'm only familiar with their Dayvan Cowboy-era material.

Very nice #2 and #4 I must say

I don't think I have given the Beautiful South enough credit, though admittedly 1998 is the first year I (finally) heard their music.

Hopefully I will have 1999 ready by the end of next week.

Bongo Bong was an amazing tune. I remember when Manu Chao played that at a music festival everyone went nuts over it.

Was it really a 1998 hit? I remember it being more in the early 00's?
Last edited:
@K8 Yep, Bongo Bong was 1998. He played at the Sydney Festival 3-4 years ago (was that the festival you were at?) and it was huge. Robbie Williams and Lily Allen do a pretty decent cover as well.

@benji2 I must admit Pretty Fly has never grown on me. Do check out Neutral Milk Hotel, the album (In The Aeroplane Over The Sea) is, to my mind, one of the best!

No OB..., it was at a festival from 2001 to 2005. I don't remember which as I used to be a bit of a festival junkie back then. Might have been BDO one year. I just remember everyone loving it!
My faves from '98

Btw awesome to see The Watchmen in there, one of the most under rated albums of all time imo.

The Watchmen, and Stereo in particular are unjustly forgotten.

Hoping to get 1999 up tomorrow, if not early in the week. Only about 35 songs to place, but at least I have a chance to do appraise them this weekend.

And finally, here is 1999.

The end of the 90s, Recovery and a great era of indie music.

The first list I've done with the aid of the actual Hottest 100 voting list. Many thanks to thejuicer145 for giving me the links to that.

Also for K8 again for reminding me of The New Radicals, it's in the list at #119.

Trent Reznor gave us The Fragile double album, which provides four songs out of the 200.

It was also a great year for the various types of dance and electronic music. The Chemical Brothers, Moby, Endorphin, P'nau, Underworld, sonicanimation, Groove Armada, Gerling, Aphex Twin, Friendly and Primal Scream all out with some great new material during the year, and some remnants of Fatboy Slim's 1998 album You've Come A Long Way Baby also making the list.

Here are #100-1 of 1999:

A young British band named Muse make their first appearance.
As does a young(ish) rapper from Detroit named Eminem.

In the Top 10 at #10 are Spiderbait with their stompin' glam-influenced Shazam!

At #9 are Iceland's Sigur Ros with their beautiful, divine debut 'single' Svefn-G-Englar, With a beautiful videoclip to match. The third Icelandic act
to make the Top 10, if you treat The Sugarcubes and Bjork as separate.

#8 sees the late Eliot Smith with easily his most beautiful, if generically-titled song, Waltz #2 (XO).

#7 sees Alex Lloyd with Lucky Star, his achingly beautiful song about the heroin epidemic of the late 90s.

#6 see Fatboy Slim with Right Here, Right Now, and its great, evolutionary videoclip.

#5 is the actual #1 song in the Hottest 100 of that year, These Days by Powderfinger. Thought they were unlucky in 1996 and 1998 not to finish closer to the top so was very glad for them at the time.
And this is the stark version from the movie Two Hands (which I prefer), not the album version from the following year.

#4 is Rage Against The Machine with the mighty Guerrilla Radio.

#3 is a bit of a bolter, Primal Scream with the intense, many-beated-per-minute but awesome Swastika Eyes. which was released ahead of the Xterminatr album of 2000.

#2 is another dance anthem of the 90s, Hey Boy Hey Girl by The Chemical Brothers.

And at #1, the amazing Touched by VAST, which Angel fans may be familiar with. More musicians should use Bulgarian choirs, they sound absolutely awesome. This is a song I can never get sick of, even if the videoclip was a bit odd. VAST never even got close to following this up.

The 'Top ten' blurbs have been updated for 1993-96.

I've posted the Hottest 100s up to 1997 on my YouTube page.

Before I leave the 90s (and probably lose K8 ), I will revise the lists I've done. I will especially look at those from 1987-96, based on some of your suggestions and some other songs I've realised I've missed.

I may expand the 1992-96 lists as well.

Is benji2 your YouTube name? I'll definitely check these out!

Have my own 50-odd faves from 1999 to post as well but still sorting the order of the bottom few (and have added Let Forever Be to my list after looking through yours as I thought it was later). My #1 for 99 wasn't in the actual hottest 100 (same as my list for 98) but you do have it on your list (unlike 98). Should be higher though and you have misspelt it

My YouTube user name is actually Ben B

My 1997 Hottest 100 is available via this link:
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0OBJnkPDKR14ZtTSKTrxTs6IX1KLojwH
and you should be able to navigate to other years from there.

Still posting the 1998 list.

Think I have two suspects for your number 1. I may have missed a 'D' in one of them.
Excellent will check it out.

It's a G

Very Nice!

Yes, I have underrated (and misspelt) Svefn-G-Englar. Have listened to it again and it is beautiful.

I had completely forgotten about some of these bands, especially Mogwai.

A few of these songs will appear in my 2000 list, when they were released as singles (including another Sigur Ros track).

I left a couple of songs to 2000 as well, even though I remember listening to (and liking) them in 1999 as the vagaries of the Hottest 100 voting lists put them in 2000.
I have now posted the 1998 and 1999 lists on my YouTube site.

About the 1999 list...when I was posting it to YouTube, I looked at and listened to Svefn-G-Englar again, then some of the songs above it, then back to Svefn-G-Englar again ... and the upshot is I have revised the 1999 list accordingly.
Nice
Have added a couple of songs to the 1993 and 1994 lists, and made some minor edits accordingly. #48 was about the highest position affected in either list.

The 2000 list is still a little way away, sorry.
