The first new No.1 single for 2018 occurs this week as Drake's No.5 debut from last week "God's Plan" moves up four places to become his second No.1 song on the ARIA Singles Chart.
"God's Plan" becomes the 1070th No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2018) and the 505th for ARIA (1983 to 2018), plus the fourth chart-topping song for the Republic record label, and with this becoming Drake's second No.1 song here he has now amassed seven weeks at the top, placing him equal 17th on the list for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: 2010's; Singles' alongside John Legend (2 #1's total of 7 wks).
This is the first song to feature the word 'Plan' to hit No.1 in Australia, while it's the second time that 'God' has been at the top, the first time was waaayyy back in November of 1953 when Les Paul & Mary Ford spent four weeks at No.1 with "Vaya Con Dios (May God Be with You)". The new No.1 song also becomes the 26th by a Canadian artist to hit the top, and the song debuted at the top in England last week (and holds for this week), while this week it entered at No.1 in both America and Canada, plus took out the spot in Ireland and New Zealand. The song is lead by its streaming sales, the song climbing to No.1 (from #4 last week) on the streaming chart and is on hold at No.10 over on the digital chart.
After an eight week stay at the top, the Ed Sheeran track "Perfect" is down one spot to No.2 and newly certified from 3xP to now 6x▲Platinum, and it is now one of the equal 49th longest running No.1's in Australia (1940 to 2018) and also for this decade it is equal sixth alongside other eight week running No.1's for this decade in "7 Years" by Lukas Graham (2016), "Blurred Lines" by Robin Thicke (2013), "Whistle" by Flo Rida (2012) and the Gotye and Kimbra teaming for "Somebody That I Used to Know" (2011).
The No.1 digital selling track again this week is last weeks national No.2 single "Meant to Be" by Bebe Rexha with Florida Georgia Line, which is pushed own one spot to No.3, while also down one place each are "I Fall Apart" for Post Malone and the Eminem and Ed Sheeran teaming "River" to No.4 and No.5 respectively. Last weekends Grammy Awards in New York saw Bruno Mars take out the majority of awards, and this has helped his current single "Finesse" with Cardi B to leap back up five places for a second week within the Top 10 and at a new peak of No.6, plus the track is now Gold (●) in sales, while also Gold is the new Camila Cabello track "Never Be the Same", up five spots to a new peak of No.7 and replacing her former No.1 "Havana" within the Top 10.
After a couple of more weeks at its peak of No.7 (four broken weeks in total), the NF track "Let You Down" drops one spot to No.8, and Pnau land their second successive Top 10 single as "Go Bang" rises five places to land at No.9, this time last year the group scored their first Top 10 when "Chameleon" rose to No.4 in the second week of February, plus it is helped up the chart by a high Triple J Hottest 100 placing of J#7. ------------------------------//----------------------------------- The Hugh Jackman led soundtrack for "The Greatest Showman" remains for a fifth straight week at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart.
And by staying for a fifth week at the top it becomes the longest running soundtrack at No.1 for this decade, with the last soundtrack staying this long at the top being from July 2008 for the "Mamma Mia!" set (the second part to it comes out later this year too), and the album has also held for a fourth week at the top in England as well, while the set here scores the only new albums certification for the week , picking up a Gold (●) in sales. This also might be the last week (for now) that the album is at No.1, as Justin Timberlake just issued his fifth album "Man of the Woods" on Friday.
"÷ (Divide)" by Ed Sheeran holds again at No.2, placing him at both positions on the singles and albums chart this week, as his track "Perfect" leaves the top spot on the singles chart after eight weeks at the top, while Pink and her former No.1 set "Beautiful Trauma" are back up two spots to No.3, and the entire Top 5 albums are all current or former No.1 sets, with the late August 2017 album "Go Farther in Lightness" for Gang of Youths rebounding twenty-four places to land at No.4, thanks to the group scoring four placings in the Triple J Hottest 100 for 2017 ranking at No.41, No.10, No.5 and No.2. The fifth and final consecutive former/current No.1 album is for The Foo Fighters and their November 2009 "Greatest Hits" (1 wk stay) set which is back up six places to No.5 thanks to their current national tour, the album last being within the Top 10 back in March of 2015 when they toured here last time, and this is the 14th overall week inside the ten for the album also.
Post Malone is back to his former peak of No.6 with his "Stoney" set and after falling from 3 to 8 last week the Camila Cavello debut debut album "Camila" is back up one spot to No.7 thanks to the albums second Top 10 single this week in "Never Be the Same", also at No.7 over on the singles chart. Eminem and his "Revival" set are down two places to No.8 and holding for a twelfth week within the Top 10 at No.9 is Taylor Swift and her "Reputation". The highest entry of the week occurs at No.10 as the ninth studio album for Machine Head entitled "Catharsis" debuts, becoming the bands third Top 10 album and third No.10 placing, as their last two albums have also debuted and peaked at No.10 in "Unto the Locust" (LP#7, Oct, 2011) and "Bloodstone & Diamonds" (LP#8, Nov, 2014) and overall this is the bands eighth Top 100 albums chart entry (their first one didn't chart here).
UP: * Kendrick Lamar not only won four Grammy's last week for his "DAMN." album, her also scored the No.1 slot on the Triple J Hottest 100 for 2017 countdown with his song "Humble" (TW-45 to 20), plus songs at No.34 with "DNA.", No.92 "LOVE." going forward from this week Universal Australia no longer will be supplying me with their release information as they used to, just album titles, no formats or extra info. No singles either, I have been trying for the past three weeks to get something more out of them, but they're not budging, so it's their loss in the end.
That's a shame. Every week I check here for things that NMF playlists or blogs have missed, just in case, and I usually find something I like or wanted to try (even if the sources are unreliable at times, remember when r/hhh thought Wolves was being released based on it's inclusion here!). Feel like the lack of disclosure/promotion by labels these days is hurting a lot of lower tier artists, especially Aussies.
Wow, The Annual MOS cd is coming out rather late! They always used to be released in like October as I used to be excited for its release every year. Maybe there was a digial realse with a different date. The 2003 Annual was the best and had me hooked! Good to see they are still going!

Oh damn that sucks about Migos, was bad enough that they did it to Without Warning too and Ric Flair Drip never got to chart. Hopefully Stir Fry gets a chance since it's cracked top 50 on Spotify, not that it counts for much as XXXTENTACION & Miguel will tell you
Go Bang is the first Australian top 10 single since...Chameleon Really highlights how ineffective the Aus music gatekeepers' strategies are, utilising streaming to have eternally long running charters that don't get very high at all. Hopefully they step up with it this year.
This was such a good chart compared to last week, finally got the new certs (hopefully some more album ones soon), finally got an Aussie top 10 single, Perfect isn't #1, Drake is #1, got heaps of top 10 entries and we flushed out heaps of old songs my only complaint is Migos not getting their streams counted

The only ARIA #1 hit that I didn't like up until early 2000 was that Barcelona Olympics song in 1992 and the first back-to-back disliked #1 hits weren't until 2004.
