For only the fourth time this century, one artist has knocked themselves off the top spot of the ARIA Singles chart with another of their tracks, as Drake replaces himself at No.1 with "Nice for What", the song also climbing to the top in New Zealand and debuts at the summit in America and Canada (it was No.1 in the UK last week).

"Nice for What" becomes the 1071st No.1 song in Australia (1940 to 2018) and the 506th for ARIA (1983 to 2018), plus the third for Drake and the fifth for the Republic record label. Drake also becomes one of 30 acts to have now had three No.1 songs in Australia which includes other acts such as Jason DeRulo, Paul McCartney, Shannon Noll, Lady Gaga, Nelly, Justin Timberlake, Shaggy, Shakira, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Roxette, Tom Jones. The Carpenters, The Easybeats. The Seekers, The Beach Boys and Suzi Quatro amongst them.

For No.1 songs Canadian artists Drake is now the third on the list for 'Most No.1 Singles: Canadian Males' behind Bryan Adams (4 #1's) and Justin Bieber (5 #1's), and on the overall Canadian list of No.1 songs (Male, Female and groups) he is equal third alongside Celine Dion with three No.1's, plus this is the 27th No.1 song in Australia by a Canadian artist and the first since Justin Bieber in 2017 to knock themselves off the top spot (although JB did as a guest artist on two tracks, "I'm the One" and "Despacito").

This is the fifteenth song with the word 'What' in it's No.1 title, but the first with a 'Nice' included, while Drake is now equal fifth for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles; 2010's' alongside the 19 weeks racked up by LMFAO (2 #1's), and on a more unique listing for 'Constitutive Weeks at No.1: 1940 to 2018' Drake lands himself straight in at No.12 just behind the 13 weeks racked up The Black Eyed Peas in 2009. On the list for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles (1940 to 2018)' he moves up to equal 35th alongside Pink (9 No.1's) the aforementioned LMFAO and also Katy Perry (3 #1's), while I mentioned at the start that he is one of four acts this century to knock themselves off the top spot, the others were Justin Bieber (2017), Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (2013) and The Black Eyed Peas (2009), prior to that Madonna in 1985 was the last act to do it.

Poor Post Malone featuring Ty Dolla $ign, they remain at No.2 for an eighth straight week with "Psycho", being leapfrogged by Drake, whose former No.1 song "God's Plan" falls to No.3, while also down one spot are Khalid and Normani with "Love Lies" to No.4. After falling three spots last week to No.6, the Weeknd track "Call Out My Name" is back up one spot to No.5, while down two places each are "Freaky Friday" for Lil' Dicky with Chris Brown (now Gold (●) in sales) and "Friends" for Marshmello and Anne-Marie (now▲Platinum and it returns to No.1 in Germany) to No.6 and No.7 respectively.

The Zedd and Grey track with Maren Morris and "The Middle" rises back up one spot to No.8, while the current Irish No.1 and new English chart-topping song for Calvin Harris with Dua Lipa with "One Kiss" rises eight spots to land at a new peak of No.9, becoming his fifteenth Top 10 song here and the fourth for Dua Lipa (whose third drops out this week), while holding at No.10 again this week is "These Days" for Rudimental with Jess Glynne and Macklemore, which is now 2x▲Platinum.

-----------------------==/\==-----------------------
Local indigenous artist Geoffrey Gurumul Yunupingu achieves something after his passing in July of 2017 which he didn't do while he was still alive, and that is score a No.1 album locally, as his fourth studio album and first posthumous release "Djarimirri (Child of the Rainbow)" debuts at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart.

"Djarimirri (Child of the Rainbow)" becomes the 819th No.1 album in Australia (1965 to 2018) and the 670th for ARIA (1983 to 2018), while also the 462nd to debut at No.1 and the first for the record label 'Skinnyfish Music'. The three previous releases by Gurumul ALL peaked at No.3 "Gurumul" (peaked late October 2008), "Rrakala" (debuted and peaked late April 2011) and "The Gospel Album" (debuted and peaked mid-August 2015).

He becomes the first indigenous singer to sing in his native language to reach No.1 on the albums chart, while only the second Aboriginal artist to do so after Jessica Mauboy did it first in October of 2016 with her soundtrack to series one of "The Secret Daughter" (3 wk stay). All three main words within the title of 'Djarimirri', 'Child' and 'Rainbow' all see their first appearance in a No.1 album title, while the album is also the 221st by an Australian Artist (male, female, duo or group) to hit No.1 and the 227th by a Solo Male Artist (local or overseas), plus Gurumul is the 111th Australian act to make it to the top and also the 29th Solo Male Australian Artist to reach No.1 on the ARIA Albums chart. Of the five albums to hit No.1 this year, this is the third for a local artist after Vance Joy in early March and Kylie Minogue last week, although you could include Hugh Jackman as lead singer on the soundtrack for 'The Greatest Showman' as the fourth Aussie for the year.

Ed Sheeran doesn't break his Top 3 stranglehold that he has maintained over the past 59 weeks as his third set " ÷ (Divide)", this week it is back up one spot to No.2 (and a 36th week at the top in New Zealand), with "The Greatest Showman" soundtrack back up one spot to No.3, while last weeks Kylie Minogue debut for her 14th studio album and fifth No.1 set "Golden" is only down three spots to No.4 this week, with another two more of last weeks Top 10 entries swapping places; the Cardi B. set "Invasion of Privacy" is up one spot to a new peak of No.5 (No.1 in both America and Canada this week too), and the Elton John tribute album "Revamp: The Songs of Elton John & Bernie Taupin" is down one to No.6, helped to stay within the Top 10 by the TV special and Grammy salute screened here earlier in the week.

The Weeknd EP "My Dear Melancholy," is back up one spot to No.7 and Ed Sheeran's second album "x (Multiply)" is also back up one spot to No.8. Breaking Benjamin's sixth album "Ember" debuts at No.9 becoming the US rock bands second albums chart entry and first Top 10 set here, surpassing the No.11 peak of their fifth album "Dark Before Dawn" (late June 2015) and new at No.10 is eighth album and second Top 10 for US country singer Jason Aldean and "Rearview Town", which is now his fourth albums chart entry here and second Top 10 set after his seventh LP "They Don't Know" debuted and peaked at No.5 in mid September of 2016.

UP:
* The soundtrack for 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1' is up a couple of places to No.15, and will most likely rise again next week as it screened on TV this weekend (ahead of their appearance in the upcoming new Avengers film), while the second volume is up one spot to No.24, with the only other climbing soundtrack being for the TV mini series 'Molly" (95 to 89).
* Taylor Swift is back up with both albums, "Reputation" (22 to 18) and her older set "1989" (23 to 20).
* The Pulitzer Prize for Kendrick Lamar this past week for his album "DAMN." helps it to rise back up thirteen places to No.25, while his last album "Good Kid, M.A.A.D. City" returns at No.91.
* The Elton John TV special has also helped his recent collection "Diamonds" to leap back up fifty five places to No.37, with other climbing collections being by Crowded House (47 to 45), The Wiggles (63 to 55), Prince (68 to 58), Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers (84 to 75), Elvis Presley ('The King' 87 to 80), Michael Jackson ('Essential' returns at No.83 thanks to a Lip Sync Battle M.J. special this past week) and Maroon 5 (93 to 85).

Hey bulion, is there any way you'd be able to start including the below 100 placements in your Noise11 posts? If not for that week (if they're not available yet), maybe for the previous week in the next week's chart rundown? Or would ARIA not allow this? I'd like to cite them on Wikipedia (particularly for notable songs or albums missing the top 100, like Rich the Kid's album, which was a success overseas), and a lot of users are iffy about forum posts being cited, even if it's stated that the user reporting them works for ARIA. Thanks.

Yeww, favourite #1 in ages
New #1 on both charts
I've added this week's ARIA Top 100 Singles chart entries to my site.

Hear them all here - http://top100singles.blogspot.com/2017/12/every-aria-top-100-single-in-2018.html
That's now seven #1's in a row that do nothing for me. The last one that I liked was over seven months ago.
8 weeks in a row at #2 for Psycho I could easily be wrong but I think Moves Like Jagger is the only other song that's done that this century. Starboy and Castle On The Hill (and Love Story) have done so non-consecutively.

32-88-90-73-80-99-68-19-out is quite a comical chart run
Psycho might actually have a chance to finally hit #1 when Beerbongs and Bentleys is released however Nice for What may be too big by then
I feel some chart rigging going on

Or it’s the same people listening to the same song on repeat. I noticed Gods Plan wasn’t in the most played songs on radio yet it doesn’t 11 weeks at 1.
I did a test at work. Not one person knew the song or had even heard it 20+
Somehow it spent 11 weeks at 1.
Now drake has replaced himself at 1 with the same pattern as before...
I seriously call bullshit. To spend 11 weeks at 1 is reserved for some seriously big memorable shit that will be remembered decades after...
I would also say based on 11 weeks at 1 and no one knowing it after three months means it would be one of the worst #1’s of all time.
She says "do you love charts", I tell her "only partly, I only love songs that fit my prescribed notion of success and my momma, I'm sorry"
Nateboi, it did spend 11 weeks at #1 but thats just due to Psycho being its only competition the whole time. The problem is that radio generally isn't super friendly to rap (for obvious reasons most times). Rap is now one of the biggest genres yet it doesn't get much airplay so people that don't listen to rap usually won't hear songs like God's Plan. The charts aren't rigged but its annoying
I'm assuming plays via the Australia/Global Top 50 playlists count towards the ARIA charts? It'd be interesting to know how many plays for all the top songs come through that playlist vs. people actually seeking out the songs to play, as I'd imagine many people would simply play that playlist from the top (i.e. the current #1).

God's Plan was one of the best no.1s to come along since Uptown Funk. Havana is the only other one I've particularly liked since Love Yourself.
That's a stat I've wanted to know myself brosa though it's very difficult to determine because all the biggest songs have so many additional external factors that you can't really pin down where the plays are coming from. My vague understanding is that being on Global 50 is worth about 3000-5000 plays a day (this might vary more though, perhaps Australians are likely to skip unheard Latin hits), Australian 50 is worth maybe 15000 but gradually more the higher up you go. I also feel like some songs on there get so old that their effect wavers. It'll probably return but Shape Of You just dropped out for the first time ever (apart from Christmas) on both charts so it'll be interesting to see how many spins it loses on Tuesday when that comes into play.

In saying all this, I can't treat Drake as an example of getting major playlist assistance since he was removed from Hot Hits Australia while God's Plan was #1 here (apparently Wolves and Him & I are much more essential fresh hits right now); playlists tend to help more to push the charts along as without their 'assistance', the charts would be even more frozen, and only established acts could really get a look in.
