The rapper Childish Gambino sees his No.7 debut from last week "This is America" jump to the top of the ARIA Singles Chart this week, the track also taking out the top spot in New Zealand and it debuts at No.1 in both America and Canada.
"This is America" becomes the 1074th No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2018) and the 509th for ARIA (1983 to 2018), plus the sixth chart-topper for the year and as its distributed here in Australia by Liberation records it becomes their first No.1 song this century and their first since the late May 1994 Love Symbol (aka Prince) song "The Most Beautiful Girl in the World", and their eleventh No.1 for the Liberation brand/label (in all of its guises).
The new No.1 also becomes the fourth 'This is' title after "This is My Song" for Petula Clark (1967), "This is Who I Am" for Vanessa Amorosi (2009) and This is What You Came for" by Calvin Harris and Rihanna (2016), while it's the first time for a solo 'America' at the top, although the song 'American Pie' has been to the top twice here for both Don McLean (6th of March, 1972, 5 wks) and the cover by Madonna (6th of March, 2000), both on the same date 28 years apart. Childish Gambino becomes the 192nd Solo American Male singer to hit the top here, while he is also the 411th American performer to hit No.1 (solo, duo or group) and the song is the 691st by an American act to take out the No.1 spot, and the track is sitting at No.1 on the streaming chart and No.2 on the digital sales chart.
Post Malone maintains his No.2 hold with "Better Now" and the new No.1 digital selling track (#4 streamed) is the new 5 Seconds of Summer song "Youngblood", which nationally jumps up six places to a new peak of No.3, which becomes the four-piece local acts' third Top 3 single in Australia, while all of this upward movement pushes last weeks No.1 song for Drake and "Nice for What" back down three spots to No.4.
The current English and Irish No.1 song for a fifth week is "One Kiss" for Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa which is back down one spot to No.5 here and former No.1's locally in "No Tears Left to Cry" for Ariana Grande and "Psycho" for Post Malone with Ty Dolla $ign are down to No.6 and No.7 respectively. Khalid and Normani are down two places to No.8 with "Love Lies" and last weeks No.1 selling digital track (#3 this week) for Amy Shark and "I Said Hi" climbs four spots to a new peak of No.9 and becomes her second Top 10 single here after her debut entry "Adore" (HP-3x2, Feb 2017), and holding at No.10 again is The Weeknd song "Call Out My Name".

* #80 - Four Out of Five by The Arctic Monkeys becomes the UK indie-bands tenth ARIA Singles Chart entry and is the lead single from their new No.1 album and sixth set "Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino".
* #86 - Saturday Sun by Vance Joy is the third chart entry from their current second album "Nation of Two" (TW-23) and is the eleventh Top 100 entry all up, as their last entry "We're Coming Home" (HP-16) leaves the chart this week.
* #91 - Audio by LSD (Labrinth, Sia & Diplo) is a teaming between the Australian song writer Sia with UK rapper Labrinth and American DJ and producer Diplo and is the teams second release as a few weeks ago they released the song "Genius".
-----------------------==\/==--------------------- The sixth studio album for UK indie-rock act The Arctic Monkeys titled "Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino" debuts at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart and becomes their third No.1 album in Australia, the set also taking the crown in their home country of England.
"Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino" becomes the 823rd No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2018) and the 674th for ARIA (1983 to 2018), plus the 466th to debut at the top of the Aussie album charts, plus the second for the Domino record label, the other being the bands previous album "AM" (16th Sept, 2013, 1 wk), with the bands debut set "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" (27th Feb, 2006, 1 wk) being the groups other (third) No.1 album here.
The Arctic Monkeys join other acts with three weeks and three No.1 albums in Prince, You Am I, The Amity Affliction and Bliss N' Eso, while its the first time that the words 'Tranquility', 'Base' and 'Casino' have made it into a No.1 album title, its the third 'Hotel' to occupy the Albums summit after "Hotel California" by The Eagles (12 weeks from 17th of Jan, 1977) and "Dream Days at the Hotel Existence" for Powderfinger (1 wk on 11th of June, 2007). Exactly a year ago (22nd of May, 2017) saw the last English act hit the top here with a new album in the self-titled Harry Styles album (TW-98) and this is the 152nd No.1 album by an English performer (solo, duo or group) and it also is the 368th No.1 album by a Group (local or overseas).
The DVD and Blu-ray release two weeks ago for 'The Greatest Showman' helps it to climb back up again this week to No.2, while recent promotion for Keith Urban's "Graffiti U" set sees it rise to No.3 (or these could both be residual Mothers Day sales helping them to rise too, as three of this past weeks sales days included that period). Last Sunday night Channel 7 screened the first part of two for the Olivia Newton-John biopic starring Delta Goodrem as ON-J, and this week the soundtrack for the telemovie debuts at No.4 titled "I Honestly Love You", featuring eight of Olivia's songs covered by Delta, plus a new duet with Olivia in "Love is a Gift".
The current New Zealand (3rd wk), American (2nd wk) and Canadian (1st wk) No.1 album in the Post Malone set "Beerbongs & Bentleys" which is down three places here to No.5, while Ed Sheeran hits his lowest ever position of No.6 with his third album "÷ (Divide)", with last weeks No.1 entry "Reverence" by Parkway Drive falling seven places to No.8 and Missy Higgins is down four places to No.10 with "Solastalgia". Two further Top 10 debuts are the second album for Charlie Puth and "Voicenotes" at No.7, coming in one place higher than his debut set "Nine Track Mind" (HP-8) achieved back in February of 2016, and new at No.9 is the debut album for US heavy metal super-group Bad Wolves and "Disobey" at No.9, with the albums lead single "Zombie" (HP-26) sitting at No.53 this week.

Was thinking the same about OTW. I'm guessing ARIA never got Thursday's Spotify data in because it never arrived until this morning.
Great run of #1's lately. It's kind of rare to have one that I'd actually happily go out of my way to hear, now we've had 5 in a row. Outside of Post Malone's hedonism, it's pretty substantial stuff too.
I think this is the first time in almost 15 months with 2 Australian songs in the top 10, since Chameleon and Adore: http://australian-charts.com/weekchart.asp?year=2017&date=20170305&cat=s Between those 2 songs was It Ain't Me, and this week Kygo & Selena Gomez both enter the top 20, spooky
I think Youngblood is the first non-triple j Australian song to make the top 5 since Sia's The Greatest, or in terms of non-triple j artists, The Veronicas' In My Blood (which, notably, only made #20 on Spotify while Youngblood has made #4, though Starley made #4 on Spotify too).
I also find it interesting that we're at 5 #1s in a row that hit #1 within 2 weeks, except for Psycho of course, but it was close. That happened not too long ago with Talk Dirty through to Borrow My Heart, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's never happened without involving held-back physical releases, or in the case of Talk Dirty, digital pre-orders.
