There's a time and a place for Pharrell and the first taste of an upcoming Ed Sheeran album is not the place I want him. It's still decent but it's not even close to what I was hoping for.
****
Genuinely shocked I have yet to see the term sell out be used to describe this... Anyway I like this, even if it's not as much as most of the songs I've heard from him prior. It's a nice departure from what he usually does.
*****
Quite a surprise. But I do like it actually.
****

Thanks for listening to my suggestion, Ed honey, your rapping is a bit too white still, but that's cute enough and is kinda preferable than hiring someone else to phone in a verse

potential 00s revival: confirmed

There is stuff to like here, but hearing it in pubic a few times, there's something awkward about it's sound being so indebted to JT's 'Like I Love You' that never quite resolves.

An impressive song, very much aided by Pharrell's touch.

Though I would prefer more songs like those off "+", this is groovy and enjoyable nevertheless.

4.5*.

Totally unexpected, at times I thought it was Robin Thicke (before I picked up my iPhone to check the artist and thought durrrr). Shows real versatility and I would really like to see this score him another hit.

There is definitely a Pharrell influence. One of my favourite tracks of the year, and finally a #1 for him on the ARIA charts when he should of had one with The A-Team almost 3 years prior!

This adds to the long list of songs I instantly like due to Pharrell's ingenious production formula. It's good and something unexpected, but still nothing I would listen to voluntarily. I still prefer a lot of his "+" stuff over this.

He usually annoys me, but I like this one.

It's great, his best by far. 4*-->5*

This isn't that bad. I really love the "ohhh" part and it is the sole reason I even remotely like this. His second best behind Give Me Love. 3.5*

I was prepared for it being ridiculously upbeat and unlike him, but I really couldn't get into 'You Need Me, I Don't Need You' for a reason. The production is there to make it interesting but honestly it ends up rather plain. 3.25

For a couple of weeks I heard this song a few times on the radio and kept missing who it was from. I thought it may have been some new artist. But I was wondering if this could be a big hit. Coincidently for some unknown reason, I was too lazy to go looking for this song. What a surprise when I matched it up! This will probably become my favourite from Ed. Way better than 'The A Team' ftr.
****
Catchy track, memorable and a good music video. His first UK#1. UK#1 and Ireland#1. US#13.

geiler Pop / R&B song! neben "All of the Stars", "Don't" und "Afire Love" der beste song von Ed Sheerans neuem Album "X"!

This definitely was not the direction that I wanted or expected Ed to go to, but it's a solid return nonetheless.
****
I just can't believe that this is Ed's first #1, it feels like he's been around for ages and had hit after hit after hit. But now thanks to actual Pharrell Williams (ACTUAL Pharrell Williams!) he's done it with this song. He'd probably do an interview in his pants if asked, he's so romantic.

I can totally see how this is a hit. It's very ear catching with the guitar sticking out (instead of mellowing in the background as per usual), and it keeps up with a good pace through the track. I thought it was instantly appealing.

What's funny for me is that with time, what I like about the track has somewhat flipped over. I was really into the pair of chorus hooks on this track, but now they seem a bit lacking to me. It would just so happen that by the end of the track, the falsetto 'I need ya darlin...', joins forces with the 'oh oh oh oh oh' and makes for a really satisfying payoff, yet I found it annoying at first!
******
Good to see him change his style.

Fun song.

Sounds a bit on the Justin Timberlake side but a great effort from him.
******
Much better than His previous singles.
***
Not really feeling it.
***
The lead single from his second offering was scary, I thought he was gonna go all gangster and alienate us with a Pharrell funk lesson. Thankfully he didn't but this still hasn't grabbed me and probly never will.
