Was actually better then expected. :P Good track.
EDIT: I'm really starting to like this a lot, very nice sound. 5 Now.
EDIT: I really like the unique structure of this track plus when the Piano comes in it reaches another level of excellent . A 6 now.

Good track actually, though he sounds like another particular artist...

I wish this whole boring, shitty genre would stop charting so high. Grr

Quite enjoyable, but I would like it of course.

Quite likeable and pleasant, and totally in the vein of Ed Sheeran. Succinct too which is a bonus. 3.75

I was able to enjoy this quite a bit to my surprise. I think it was because I was able to make a better emotional connection with this song than I was expecting.

It is in the vein of Ed Sheeran (after all, he was a supporting act at some of his concerts!), but I like it more than any of Ed's songs of this type from his latest album.

This is fantastic. Love it, nice feeling, very simple but effective. Great stuff.

Reminds me a lot like "Thinking Out Loud," which to be honest makes me like it even more. Very lovely lyrics.

STOP RIGHT THERE

Due to the silly way this section is laid out, you've already seen the star rating that I have to give and are probably subsequently already judging me for the tone you're perceiving out of me due to the inevitable conclusion of this review. I bloody hate that and honestly would write so many more reviews on this site if I didn't have to give out a rating. I don't like getting lumped in with mindsets that aren't mine, which certainly appears to be the case since no one else seems to have drawn the same conclusion with this as me. Scores are just clickbait-generation fodder, dispensing the bare minimum of tangible information that's really just meaningless noise if it's not properly accounted for. To make it easier, I'm not angry, just severely underwhelmed. Anyway~

Observations:
-This is some really nothingy songwriting. I don't want to say bad as it's mostly innocuous, but there's nothing to pay. There's nothing in the way of metaphor, wordplay, insight, heck there's barely even any legitimate rhyming. That emptiness is pretty much my entire issue.
-Although in saying that, it's hard not to frame this as bragging while being humble, no one would otherwise drag it on so long like that.
-I think last year I saw a video on YouTube where it took a scene from "The Big Bang Theory" but removed all the canned laughter. All the punchlines were left to sit on nothing and it revealed just how painfully unfunny it can be. Take out the phrase 'I wasn't expecting that' from this song and you'll get a similarly empty canvas here.
-Now that I think about it, this is practically a novelty song just without the punchline. All it would need is one silly line at the end in either an anti-joke or Aristocrats way and it would have some potential.
-I've been listening to a lot of Dylan & Drake (not to be confused with the hot fire spitting rappers) lately which just makes me expect more out of something like this.
-I get the feeling Jamie has better songs but at the same time I don't know if I want to hunt them down.
-I put a fraudulent score down as further effort to ease the tension I feel when having to associate myself with anger, I'll probably fix it when the moment has passed but I hope you can understand why I've done that. The opening paragraph I wrote before I decided to do this will also make more sense then.
-I would love to know if there is something profound about this that I'm missing. I hate being that guy.

Text > Points, we should start a revolution, hey-ey-ey-ey.

This song is just so uninteresting! I can usually find something to like about this type of stuff but this just bores me beyond belief. The production is too bare and uninteresting to keep me interested and I really can't stand his voice. Sounds ghastly and depressing, which is surely the opposite intention of the lyrics. Speaking of those, not much of interest to be found there. I really dislike how the title is continually chucked in like we didn't get that HE WASN'T EXPECTING THAT the first few times he said it, or like he doesn't have anything useful left to say. Not that he has much of use to say in this anyway.

I also hate that it doesn't have a chorus or really any climax. Just drags on and on without much interesting added at all. I will admit it at least gets a bit more interesting at about the 2 minute mark, but it's not enough. Big pass on this. The most interesting thing about this is that the acronym is amusing to an extent. Shame this has become such a big hit.

Edit: Also worth pointing out that on the note of the title being repeated so much, the way it's repeated makes the phrase lose any meaning it had in the first place. Hell, I don't like to use that phrase myself anymore (even though it's generally in a context unrelated to this song) because of how cliché it sounds when saying it. I'm very pleased that Lean On stopped this from getting any higher than it did, while it's nice that it's going away quicker than expected.

The repetition of "wasn't expecting that" gets a bit tiresome after a while. The song is nice without doubt, but I just find it tricky to get into. I yearn for more zip but that would ruin the song to be honest. Perhaps too much reflection within one song. Aww, but that ending is sad.
