Really torn on this because while it contains rather catchy melodies, the lyrics are a bit cringey in the way of it trying to be as trendy as possible. There's a market for what it's doing and it's not me. 3.5

Whether it's true or not, it's tough to say something like "I'm not just a pretty girl" and not sound obnoxious; I guess this is about as close as one could get to pulling that off successfully. An enjoyable song.
***
Going to go with the most popular version which is the remix by Cheat Codes and CADE.

Edgy lyrics with a cool beat.
*****
Good remix by the Cheat Codes. It makes it a great pop dance track.

I want to believe the heart is in the right place, but there's something super reductive about a woman having to seek approval by abandoning the expectations on her as a woman to be more like a typical 'bloke'...shudder. It plays out as a double entendre when you realise that in order to get international attention (in fact it's just about the most popular female-led song in the world at the moment) it needs to be remixed by a bunch of bros in order to complete the circle of bro-dom. In either incarnation, it's already too far off the deep end to reach salvation, not that forced conformity is something to celebrate, as the song would seem to agree!

Songs like this just make me wonder where did it all go so wrong for dance music? I mean, what is this tiny crap? 2012 isn't exactly light years away, but the difference is drastic and I'm not sure should I blame Kygo or Bieber for that. I think I'll choose Kygo so that I can blame Bieber for heaps of latin crap coming our way. Alternatively, and this might be it, I think I'm getting too old for this.

I like the original somewhat. Cheat Codes can get lost.

not my type of music
