Really fucking annoying.

Very few songs brought me more joy than this one in 2017, not just on a sonic level but for being a blank slate to one of my favourite jokes of the year. Seeing it be rated remarkably highly in a music poll was a delight for me too, not just because of how much the song plays against the fold: It's a song that came out at the start of the year, doesn't mention the title, and is by a not-very-well-known band from Western Australia. While that helps, it all accumulates to one of the greatest feelings around, the feeling that there are other people around that share your feeling of joy centered around something, and the more weird & niche it is, the better. Maybe that's just a specifically me thing, as someone who persistently is watching user-driven content on YouTube & twitch, who sees joy in a well timed use of a meme, or even dumb things like chatters chanting 'VAC' in unison whenever someone pulls off a moderately impressive shot in Golf With Your Friends. But I'm not sure there's much better than how many chances I've had to elicit laughs or even just amused grins around the world just by interpolating this song's calling phrase.

Also how bizarre is the song structurally? I've said it before that the song manages to get away with nearly only having one lyric for more than half of the song, but the more I think about it, I feel that it's a dance song that's been disguised as a rock song. It takes the trope of Daft Punk's "Around The World" by setting the one phrase behind really invigorating music to the point that there's never any real tension caused by the repetition, you might even not notice it!

I also want to believe that these guys are fans of The Dø because this is only the second song I can think of that has such a delightfully strained stutter, the other being "On My Shoulders" . No one should be surprised that someone as idiosyncratic as me would like something as idiosyncratic as that, but I really think songs can tell a lot through the 'unnecessary' things that are included.
