"I Kissed a Girl" maintains it's hold on the top Australian Singles charts for a second week, helped along by a physical release in the past week. Also the song that moves up to No.2, The Pussycat Dolls' "When I Grow Up" was released physically during the week, and that helps give the troupe their third No.2 single. Previously they've been here for two weeks apiece with "Stickwitu" (Dec 2005) and "Buttons" (July 206).

"I Kissed a Girl" is the only song in the Top 10 to hold steady this week, as everything else moves up or down. Other than The Pussycat Dolls, Miley Cyrus and Chris Brown climb to new peaks, but two songs speed themselves into the Top 10.

"Shake it" by Metro Station is the highest climbing single of the week, jumping 21 places to No.4 on downloads alone (physical release is August 11th) it's helped along by it's use in the new US edition of "So You Think You Can Dance". Another promo driven single that benefits from the actual artist's visit to this country is "Black and Gold" by Sam Sparro which zooms up 12 places to No.5, and also helps his album to land at No.23 this week. And thirdly, a mention must go to Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" which jumps up 8 places to No.25 this week, helped also by it's use in the promo for new Channel 7 series "Packed to the Rafters". His album becomes the biggest climber on the album charts this week, up to No.20.

Sneaky Sound System get the highest new entry at No.16 this week (downloads and physical combined) with their fifth single "Kansas City", the lead track from their forthcoming second album "2", which is out August 16th. Their previous highest effort was the No.11 single "UFO"(June 2007), and below is their previous singles...
17-July-06*HP-25*WI-16 - I Love it
11-Dec-06*HP-19*WI-32 - Pictures
07-May-07*HP-11*WI-38 - UFO
22-Oct-07*HP-33*WI-07 - Goodbye
05-Nov-07*HP-42*WI-02 - I Love it (Re-Entry)
05-Nov-07*HP-39*WI-03 - Pictures (Re-Entry)

Stefani Germanotta was born in Manhattan in 1986, and was influenced by Queen, David Bowie, Madonna and other pop acts while growing up. She is now known as Lady GaGa, and she debuts with her first single "Just Dance" at No.34 this week. The song was performed at the 2008 Miss Universe Pageant two weeks ago, and she'll making an appearance at the end of July of the US edition of "So You Think You Can Dance". She has previously found fame as a songwriter having written material for such acts as The Pussycat Dolls.

Usher debuts at No.42 with "Moving Mountains", his second single from the former No.1 album "Here I Stand" (No.15 this week) is the follow-up to the No.8 single "Love in This Club" which is still charting at No.22.

When ABBA released their "Abba Gold" album back in 1992, they took one single from it and re-issued it. And that version of "Dancing Queen" reached No.37, and became their only charting single for the 1990's. Coming in at No.48 is "Mamma Mia", charting due to being issued last week as a digital single. The original version of "Mama Mia" (spelt that way in Australia) started it's journey on the charts the week of 22-Sep-1975, reaching No.1 in seven weeks, and staying at the top for 10 unbroken weeks. In fact it was the last No.1 single of 1975, and was the second of three consecutive No.1's in a row for the trio, having been preceded by "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do", and followed by "SOS" in the second week of 1976.
Now they make history by joining AC/DC, Marcia Hines, Michael Jackson, Elton John, Queen, and Santana by becoming only the seventh artist to have a Top 50 charting single over four different decades (1970's, 80's, 90's and 2000's) (Blondie almost did it, but their 1999 single "Maria" only made it to No.59). As for Cher, Tom Jones & John Farnham they did it over five decades, whilst Cliff Richard is the only six decade-span that's been achieved.

And continuing on the ABBA thread, the biggest moving opening in Australia last week was the theatrical version of the stage musical "Mamma Mia!" starring Meryl Streep, Colin Firth and Pierce Brosnan. And now the soundtrack from that film climbs from No.4 to No.1 this week.

"Mamma Mia!" becomes the 38th Soundtrack to hit No.1 on the Australian charts since "The Sound of Music" became the first, and did so for 76 weeks between 1965 to 1967. The last Soundtrack at No.1 was the "High School Musical" album, which did so almost two years ago (31-July-2006). It also becomes the seventh soundtrack for this decade, having had previous chart toppers from "Coyote Ugly" (Jan 2001), "Moulin Rouge" (May 2001), "Bridget Jones' Diary" (Aug 2001), "8 Mile" (Jan 2003), "Shrek 2" (July 2004) and the aforementioned "High School Musical".

This is not the first time that an ABBA infused Soundtrack has hit the top. In September 1994 the "Priscilla Queen of the Desert" hit No.1 for 4 weeks, and also helped pull the ABBA Gold album back into the charts, and then two months later the "Muriel's Wedding" soundtrack reached No.19 which had more ABBA songs that Priscilla album.

This ABBA mania is the fourth time around for the giant re-entry at No.4, which is the former No.1 album "Abba Gold" (4 weeks, December 1992). Late 1992 was the first run for the album, then again in late 1994 with the above mentioned soundtracks, and then when the 'Mamma Mia!' stage musical hit in 1999 and 2000, not to mention every time an ABBA special is shown on TV it creates chart activity. ABBA also have two further albums in the Top 50 this week in "18 Hits" (No.43) and "Number Ones" (New at No.49).

08-Nov-92*HP-01*WI-25 - Abba Gold
30-Oct-94*HP-03*WI-20 - Abba Gold
02-May-99*HP-02*WI-41 - Abba Gold
21-May-00*HP-12*WI-16 - The Complete Abba Gold
10-June-01*HP-06*WI-14 - The Complete Abba Gold

The Vines' fourth album "Melodia" debuts at No.12 this week. Their first album "Highly Evolved" (No.5, July 2002) came out this week in 2002, and the next four years they had an album every two years with "Winning Days" (No.7, April 2004) and "Vision Valley" (No.14, April 2006).

New No.15 - Kansas City - Sneaky Sound System (No.20 d'load)

New No.31 - Sleep When I'm Dead - The Cure
New No.40 - Moving Mountains - Usher
New No.45 - Little by Little - Chasing Bailey
New No.50 - Australia - Gyroscope
It's great to see Katy Perry at No.1 again!,
and it's at No.1 on the Us Billboard Hot 100 for a 4th week!

Wow,it's great to see Mariah Carey's Bye Bye at No.16 on the
Physical single chart, but it's not charting in the Singles Chart.
Must be because it's not on ITunes anymore.

It's a shame that "Kansas City" didn't make into the Top 10, but hopefully it will rise next week.

Rihanna's album is still in the Top 10 and should stay there because once the 6th single is released "Disturbia", it should rise to No.1 hopefully.

Duffy's album is still in the Top 20, it deserves to bullet into the Top 10.

Any news on a Natasha Bedingfield Itunes single release??,
because the release date of "Pocketful of Sunshine" in the UK
has been pushed back to September.
no surprised to see katy perry at no.1 but not sure if it will hold on for next week or the week after
black n gold may not be holding on for a long time since the rush is already at peak and being a few months old n may slowly slip
yes good to see coldplay sarah b estelle n neyo all drop, need to make way for the newer songs
will be interesting to see where madonna gabriella and brian chart next week, i think gab will just be outside top 10 madonna just in 20 n brian just outside 20
walking through all the music store couldnt see brian's single
will it be released late on monday cuz its released by minor label? and do the single have CD1 & 2 as wikipedia claimed?
I added a bit more to the "Mama Mia" section of my chartifacts this week too. A bit of it's chart history.
"Low" is due for a drop in the next few weeks. It seems to move no more than 3 places each week. A big drop is on it's way for this song, I can sense it.

Black & Gold jumps into the top 5, wow I didn't expect that. Good to see. Still in the I-tunes top 5 so should be able to hang around the top 10 for a few more weeks.

Coldplay are not having much luck, I hope their song doesn't leave the top 10 next week, it deserves another week or 2 in the top 10. Physical sales have hurt their singles.

I think physical sales will sting Metro Station too. They should secure a spot in the top 5 next week but will drop the week after and then they might rebound as the physical single will be released but I think the hype with them will be gone.

Katy Perry looks solid to secure the #1 spot for a few weeks still, nothing is really threatening her.
Any news updates about the music video for
Viva La Vida by Coldplay??
no offical video released yet but many great live perforances on youtube
Untouched, "Low" might not drop next week, in fact it might just climb, as Step Up 2: The Streets came out in video stores today. And that usually triggers a couple of weeks resurgence.

Thanks Bulion. Hopefully a drop will be in the near future for "Low".

Speaking of songs climbing, I'm watching The Big Brother Finale and some songs could re-enter next week or move up.

So far "Are You Ready" by The Potbelleez, "Pictures Of You" by The LastGoodnight & "Untouched" by The Veronicas have all been played.

The Big Brother finale usually draws in a large audience so hopefully people dowmload these songs and it helps these songs rise.
How good was the dance they did on BB to Untouched?
Wow, I thought it was good.
I agree Gabby, it was excellent!!

Yes, the Big Brother Finale was enjoyable.

I also enjoyed the dancing, and "Untouched" could
re-enter the Top 50 Singles Chart next week.

I wentto JbHifi today and got Brian Mc Fadden's
single Twisted which was on display late in the afternoon around 4pm.
The single has the Potbeeleez remix, which sounds
better than the original album version.

Currently on the Itunes Top 120 chart, Duffy's song "Mercy" is at No.24!!, which is her highest peak so far!

Hopefully it will rise into the Top 20, this week.

Last edited:
There were eight new entries inside the top 100 but outside the top 50 this week, they are...

#57 - MGMT - Electric Feel --> Oracular Spectacular is at it's highest position on the album charts this week #22. Breakthrough has been needed, twice both with Time To Pretend and Kids i said that radio had ignored them. Electric Feel will deliver their goods and tap into The Presets fanbase and other Australian dance acts alike. In turn MGMT will be one of the biggest acts in Australia for 2008.

#58 - Abba - Dancing Queen --> Has been listed as a re-entry in my predictions this week. I have no idea why ARIA has made it a new debut. It charted in 1992. Anyone have any information on this? would be helpful. Bullet into top 50 next week.

#64 - Abba - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) --> Mamma Mia Soundtrack scoots up four postions to take #1 on the album charts. Though Abba is showing great chart strength at the moment it will be hard to continue to have stamina with no less than three albums in the album top 50. Also newer music suits the time. All good things must come to an end.

#67 - Ladyhawke - Paris Is Burning --> Surprise debut to the top 100 is tops and great news. However alot of competition at the moment i wouldn't think it could compete.

#70 - Cast Of Mamma Mia! The Movie - Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight) --> Original Abba version tops this pitiful remake. Spotlight is on this at the moment. Chick flick is supporting it so will only survive as long as the box office is kind to he movie.

#84 - Cure - Sleep When I'm Dead --> Three physical singles later we land a not so high chart position. Will get lost somewhere below the top 100 next week. Album shall do rather well thanks to alot of promotion.

#99 - Gyroscope - Australia --> So-So, fluked a #1 album this year thanks to dedicated fans on a low selling week.
This single is missing everything. Tryed to make an anthem instead it falls flat on the floor. Support good aussie talent! - not here. Gone next week.

#100 - Cee-Lo & Jack Black - Kung Fu Fighting --> Carl Douglas's version has stood the test of time. Bus Stop did an ok rendition in 1998. This is silly. Jack Black was last seen as part of the one-hit-wonder Tenacious D & Cee-Lo as one-hit-wonder Gnarls Barkley. So together they try to make magic for the kiddies. Should rise next week, not enough to bother the top 50.

a shame " Time To Pretend" by MGMT never made it into the top50!
so Brandon, does the twisted single only has 2 tracks? does it have 2 cd version releases as wikipedia claims? cant wait to get it, shame local is not stocking them....

heres my prediction
1 i kissed a girl
2 shake it
3 when i grow up
4 no air
5 see you again
6 black n gold
7 forever
8 take a bow
9 love song
10 viva la vida
11 kansas city
12 amercian boy
13 dont wanna go to bed now
14 perfect
15 closer
16 i i never see your face again
17 sweet about me
18 elevator
19 give it to me
20 twisted (hopefully )

sorry done 20 this week cuz theres so much releases
Hi Colinda!

Yes!!, the physical single only has two tracks
are they are:

The tracklisting:

1.Twisted (Produced by the Potbelleez)
2.Twisted (Album Version)

Like i said, in JbHifi W.A. the single wasn't even on display until late Monday afternoon, and the staff member told me that it arrived late.

But i'm surprised about Lady Gaga's single which was sold out
on Monday, and i noticed that the song debuted at No.30!! on the physical Top 50 based on early sales.

So i eventually found the "Just Dance" physical single at BigW.

Rihanna's music video for "Disturbia" was released today

She looks amazing, and the video is quite dramatic.

Can't wait for the physical single!

just saw the video
creepy spiders crawling on rihanna!!!!
great video!!!
ITunes Top 120 chart update.

More good news for Rihanna!, the "Disturbia" digital single
is currently at it's highest peak at No.22! on the ITunes chart.

Apart from Rihanna,

I'm happy to see Kid Rock in the
Top 20 with his new track "All Summer Long", which is an addictive and catchy song,
and i'm pleased that it is charting well in many other countries worldwide!

I predict a Top 20 debut next week for Lady Gaga's
new song "Just Dance" which has been in the Itunes Top 20 for the past week, and doing well both digitally and physically.
Here goes.

1. I Kissed A Girl
2. Shake It
3. When I Grow Up
4. No Air
5. See You Again
6. Black & Gold
7. Take A Bow
8. Forever
9. Lovesong
10. Don't Wanna Go to Bed Now
11. Closer

14. Kansas City
15. Just Dance
16. Perfect
17. American Boy
18. If I Never See Your Face Again
19. Are You Ready
20. White Noise
Next 10 downloads:

41 (40) - Give it to Me - Madonna
42 (32) - This Love - Veronicas
43 (37) - Work - Kelly Rowland
44 (39) - Don't Stop the Music - Rihanna
45 (45) - My People - The Presets
46 (43) - Like Only a Woman Can - Brian McFadden
47 (44) - Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis
48 (41) - Tattoo - Jordin Sparks
49 (42) - Party People - Nelly
50 (Ne) - Mamma Mia - Abba

Other retail new entries:
64 - Twisted - Brian McFadden
74 - Pick You Up - Dash & Will
Pictures by Sneaky Sound System has entered the UK Charts this week at No.94.
I've also noticed that the Disturbia video is #1 on the iTunes Top Music videos, so we'll perhaps see two versions of Disturbia in the ARIA digital track chart next week.
Hi Innocent Eyes

Do you have the link so that i can see the ITunes Top Music Video Chart please??

Because i can't access it.

What other ITunes charts are available? e.g. international,
Rumours are going around that Leona Lewis
will be releasing a 3rd single off her No.1 album "Spirit".

It's called "Forgive Me", and i also heard that Akon will
be remixing the track.

Does anyone else know what the 3rd single will be??
Hi Brandon,

You must install iTunes to see the music video chart (in the bottom left hand corner of the home page.

Here are the several charts available on iTunes:

+ Alternative
+ Blues
+ Children's music
+ Classical
+ Country
+ Dance/Electronic
+ Roots
+ Hip Hop/Rap
+ Inspirational
+ Jazz
+ Pop
+ R'N'B/Soul
+ Rock
+ Soundtrack
+ Vocal
+ World

You also have access to the iTunes album chart, the Top Audiobooks, The Top TV episodes, the Top Podcasts.

As for Leona, I've heard that Take A Bow would be the third single in Europe
Thankyou Innocent Eyes.

I don't download songs off Itunes because i don't have a credit card.

But i love viewing all the ITunes Charts, and other music charts worldwide which i follow on a weekly basis to see how the music artists are charting.

I really enjoy buying physical singles and albums anyway.

Wow!!, thanks for the list, and i can't believe there are so many categories which is great.

Is there any possible way for me to view the charts, without being an Itunes Customer??,
The reason i'm asking is because i can view the Itunes Top 120 Digital Tracks Chart without purchasing.

Hopefully Bulion has the link.

Yes you can view the charts without being a consumer. Personally, even though I've installed iTunes, I haven't bought any song yet.

However, I've forgotten to say that the main chart is a Top 100 not a Top 120. All the other specific charts are Top 100 as well.

I like having access to these specific charts to know which song is about to enter the general iTunes Top 100.
IF you don't wanna install iTunes you can get the iTunes Top 120 video via RSS link.

Also for the people who don't have the link for iTunes Top 120 Songs here is the link.

Usually these links don't work in IE, but they work fine in Firefox or Safari.

Hi Martin,

Mariah Carey debuted at No.16 on the Physical Singles Chart!
which is great for 1st week sales.

Unfortunately Mariah didn't qualify to chart in the
Official Top 50 Singles Chart, due to lack of download sales
and a dissapeared mysteriously off ITunes Top 120.

With no download sales, that really hurt her, BUT
There is always hope because her upcoming 3rd single is fantastic!
My prediction for what i hope next week's Top 20
will be:

1.Katy Perry - I Kissed a Girl
2.Pussycat Dolls - When I Grow Up
3.Metro Station - Shake It
4.Sam Sparro - Black and Gold
5.Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - No Air
6.Miley Cirius - See You Again
7.Chris Brown - Forever
8.Rihanna - Take a Bow
9.Coldplay - Viva La Vida
10.Sara Barielles - Lovesong
11.Jason Mraz - I'm Yours
12.Lady Gaga - Just Dance
13.Rihanna - Disturbia
14.Neyo - Closer
15.Kid Rock - All Summer Long
16.Sneaky Sound System - Kansas City
17.Maroon 5 & Rihanna - If I Never See Your Face Again
18.Estelle & Kanye West - American Boy
19.Gabriella Cilmi - Sweet About Me
20.The Potbelleez - Are You With Me
Hey last week we had a few people on-line during the chart show who were giving feedback. I thought this week why doesn't everybody log-on at 3pm and we'll comment and make noise about the charts. It's what we all enjoy listening to, and we know more about it than other people, so let's all sign at 3 on Sunday for some back-and-forth.

Regards, Bulion.
Yes, what a great idea Bulion!!!

It should be fun!!

3 The Vines - He's A rocker
4 Brian Mcfadden - Twisted
When everybody logs on, please predict what you think will be the highest new entry out of the seven that enter the Top 40 this week.
Choices are:
Kid Rock
Gabriella Cilmi
Brian McFadden

i reckon it will be either Madonna or Gabriella Cilmi
Gabriella Cilmi
Brian or Gabriella

Gabriella Climi No.23,
All Summer LongKid Rock No.26,
Moving Mountains-Usher No.35,
Give It 2 Me-Madonna No.34,
Disturbia-Rihanna No.41,
Twisted- Brian McFadden No.44
In the predictions this week, Brandon got EIGHT correct

There are six new entries to the chart as I said, all below No.20

One giant leap of 17 places.
'Moving Mountains' - Usher
1st new entry #40

it was #42 LW

Physical release this week should help it.
Linkin Park was the biggest dropper of the week (even though he didn't play it), but the physical single out this week might help it re-climb next week
jabba skipped 'Leave Out All The Rest' - Linkin Park when it only entered the charts 2 weeks ago!!!
It is the biggest dropper 28-39
Lady GaGa's "Just Dance" will be the 17 place leap.
'Twisted' - Brian McFadden
2nd new entry #37
I don't like this version as much as the one he did on Rove.
I guess Gabriella Cilmi's "Don't Wanna Go to Bed Now" will be the highest debut out of the bunch.
None of your have guess the highest new entry. It's only the second ever Top 40 single for this performer. (not Gabby)
Disturbia new at No.35
I'd say Madonna and Kid Rock for this week's highest entry but I don't know if Warner have allowed the latter to enter the chart.
IE, you're assumption is correct.
Two new entries up next. One a second single, the other a first chart entry for this duo from Conneticut
Ouch for Gabriella Cilmi coming only at #31! Especially after the huge success of Sweet About Me, perhaps the record company has released it too fast
Kid Rock is definitely the highest new entry, it's been sitting in the Top 20 on itunes all week.
I noticed that the Single Version of "Don't Wanna Go to Bed Now" was only in iTunes Top 120 later on this week. Now it is the one charting higher than the album version. Looks like MGMT have finally got a breakthrough to the Top 50.
Could someone pls tell me Numbers 30, 32, 33, 34
I missed them
30 - Electric Feel - MGMT (new Entry)
32 - Mercy - Duffy
33 - Lollipop - Lil' Wayne
34 - Better in Time - Leona Lewis
Next new entry is soon

Madonna - 'Give it 2 me'
2nd highest new entry #23
'Low' is out of the top 20
WOW it took that long
The highest new entry is next...

Glad to see Low leaving the Top 20! About bloody time.
My prediction of it climbing slightly this week was wrong I thought the release of Step Up 2: The Streets on DVD might have had an effect.
Kid Rock - 'All Summer Long'
HIGHEST new entry #21

The two songs sampled in the highest new entry at No.21, "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock are...

Main hook...
05-Jun-78*HP-08*WI-18 - Werewolves of London - Warren Zevon

bridge hook...
no chart entry - 1974 - Sweet Home Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Highest climber is coming up soon. One is in the teens, the second highest climber is up 9 places
Looks like The Living End will be the second highest climber, up 9 spots to #12, thanx to the release of the new album I suppose.
Halving it's chart position, Lady GaGa climbs up 17 places to No.17 this week to become the highest climber of the week.
Listening to your show the first time now.

Greetings from Switzerland
Hey Steffen.
Brandon and Rhys were the closest to predict the next single, but no one got it spot on for "Kansas City" at No.15.
Will Ne-Yo make it back into the Top 10 this week? not quite....
'White Noise' album debuts at #2 on Album Chart
Looks like it's ABBAmania again in Australia as one of the hosts said that they had 5 albums in the chart.

Love Song #10
Guessing that this song and 'Viva la Vida' made a bit of a swap
With the ABBA thing, their "More Abba Gold" makes it's highest peak on the charts this week at No.38. It had never been higher than No.56, which it achieved last week. Prior to that it had never been higher than No.60.
A lot of single place movements in the Top 10 this week.
Get ready for sister-brother back to back songs.
Hello Everyone!!!

OMG Can't believe i got 8 predictions correct! Wow.

My predictions for No.10,9,8,7,6 - are all correct so far.

Enough about me,

I missed out, does anyone know where Gabriella Cilmi and
Lady Gaga charted??
Lady Gaga was at No.17
Gabriella debuted at No.31
Gabriella - #31
Lady GaGa - #17
Gabriella Cilmi is #12 with Sweet About Me and #31 with Don't Wanna Go To Bed Now. Lady Gaga has climbed to #17
Thankyou all,

No.5 is currently playing, surprised about that because it
was at in the ITunes Top 2 nearly all week.

i predict No.4 Jordin Sparks,No.3 Sam Sparro
No.2, Pussycat Dolls, and No.1.Katy Perry again.
No.4 is Sam Sparro!

No.3 will be either Jordin Sparks or PCD.
Brandon. Sam Sparro has physical behind him, whereas Metro Station don't as yet, so that could be a factor for it slipping back one place.
Jordin Sparks is still in the Top 3, probably because
of strong physical sales.
No.2 is PCD and
Congratulations to Katy Perry! This week's No.1!!

No.1 for 3rd week in a row,
No.1 in America for 5 weeks!! PLUS
a 2008 MTV VMA Nomination for Best Female Video!!

It's her time to shine

Wow, she is so hot right now.
wow, this is the coolest and best single chart of the year i reckon. so many new entries! it was really fun to listen to!
