Ugh they claim it starts at 1130pm, they must be referring to Adelaide time because its midnight and it hasn't started yet... almost as bad as the playlists that frequently don't get posted before the show starts Last edited:
Yeah I was kind of disappointed to see the top 2 as they were because prior to that it was looking like the list for once wasn't so blatantly influenced by people just voting songs they liked, or bands they liked, so many great clips and I can't believe I never watched Kingswood's before!
I managed to watch from #47 onwards, and did watch up until #1. If I recall correctly, they did start late last year - I think it was around 1:00am when they started. So it was a good time that they started. For the most part, it was quite entertaining, although at times, I did want to change the channel.
WTF Lanterns and Royals. Sure, they are awesome tracks, but their videos are completely mediocre to me imo.
I am happy with most of the countdown. I really thought a few others would make it (i.e. Duke Dumont, Drake, Franz Ferdinand and Just Blaze/Bauuer). That's just my opinion though.
I'm surprised to see Beach House that high, as I found the video for 'Wishes' to be quite average. It was also released last year, and managed to stand the test of time. I'm not surprised to see Bubble Butt that high because it was mentioned and played on a promo for the countdown.
I was quite surprised to see Sarah Blasko, A$AP Rocky, Thy Art Is Murder, Muse, Parkway Drive, Miley Cyrus, and Flight Facilities. (I expected 'I Didn't Believe' when they appeared on the couch )
Also, I reckon some songs were too high (i.e. Lanterns, Royals, Wishes, Wild Eyes, Reign Of Darkness, Any Day Now), and some were too low (i.e. Gun, Smiles Don't Lie, Ballad..., Waiting All Night, Hard Out Here, Jubilee Street, SOS, Young, Blurred Lines ( ), and Ohio. But that's just my opinion.
Overall, I am happy with the countdown this year, and this makes me all the more excited for the Triple J Hottest 100 2013!
You're welcome TravD. Favourites of the bunch and very surprised to see no clipping.

^ Except this time it seems to be 50 videos chosen by the rage programmers, rather than voted for by listeners.
Not that I care either way, as I have virtually no interest in 2017 music. But I assume they've done this to stop any pop/chart artists being part of it, because rage likes to pretend they're the visual equivalent of Triple J - only playing 'credible', "alternative" music.
I remember e.g. Britney Spears having several songs in the first Rage 50, airing at the end of 2009. Last edited:
Looking at previous years it seems public voting had some glaring irregularities, some campaigns to either get indie acts some street cred or popstar spam where neither of those categories had particularly great videos.
Add to that the usual JJJ fare and the fact these "rage programmers" alternate at the public broadcaster that it has descended into a bit of a JJJfest. Most of that music is zzzzz but there were some notable videos which is how the countdown does not play out as - a music video countdown where the actual music comes second, which Australia does not really have year-on-year anymore.
In comparison, youtube/"spotify" spam and music TV channels do not cater to local taste half as well as the programmers behind the rage FIFTY seem to, I'm sure there is a team behind the final decision making of the chart but it could be a lot better. 2017 was a tough year for music too and highly technologically advanced music videos really made something totally boring or bad sounding into a quarter-decent visual.
BTW I totally overlooked that this was on in 2017 - does anyone have the rest of the list?
Also, going to make playlists on YT for these soon so subscribe to my channel.
Watched the countdown from 27 to 1 last night and I was really impressed with most of the clips the rage staff chose. Not sure I agree that HUMBLE was the best video of the year, but it should certainly become the most iconic.
