Yeah it's an interesting observation that I haven't quite pinned down myself. It is correct that there have been a few more stations added to the panel in recent years, and I feel there has been a slight demographic shift in this. Originally songs seemingly only played on the rock stations would ride high, but possibly some of those stations have switched to CHR leaning, either because of (or the reason for) rock falling out of mainstream popularity. But yeah I'm surprised how sharply the rises have happened!
WRONG VERSION! I'd be delighted if it was the original being given another chance. You know it's bad generic dance when I don't like it Anyway, go Happy (even though it knocked off AOM), Red Lights, Goodness Gracious, Best Day Of My Life, and Counting Stars still surviving somehow.
I thought Cash Cash might have had a big jump like that given its rise on iTunes. I thought it'd just make it in, but it's easily got there, yay Last edited:
Lol harley Well it's good that Can't Remember To Forget You is doing well but I can't say the same for The Man, If I Lose Myself and Best Day Of My Life. Also wow just noticed that all of the songs that entered the top 40 this week will all have significant gains or debuts on ARIA on Saturday. I thought Undressed would be higher than it is, hoping for a rise in the coming weeks
Edit: Also I thought Impossible would be in there this week Last edited:
Taylor is out of the top ten. Sadface. Tiesto doesn't make up for it. Also I heard Hard Out Here played on my station for the first time this morning; they may as well not have bothered. So much of it was blanked out.
I've only heard Hard Out Here once on the radio outside of listening to Take 40. They didn't play a version that had all of the profanity blanked out. Instead the bitch in the first line was replaced with lady, the ass in the first verse was replaced with butt and the bitches in the chorus and bridge were replaced with chick (which was hilarious because it sounded like shit instead of chick. It also sounded like it had started with bitch and then quickly switched to saying chick)
The censored version with all of the profanity blanked out is hilarious, I love "forget your ___ and grow a pair of ___" Last edited:
So TPOL is getting airplay! Surprised ILUKA is still around lol, and I would've expected Dark Horse to rebound And yeah the lack of High is really surprising, maybe it's on an ad then?? Or maybe it's split between two versions like Free or something Nice to see Mauboy doing well too even though that was a given.
Well my rants about High not getting radio supoort seem silly now, but it should've made the top 40 before now (but according to the LW it was already there last week ). I like that Replay is in there now and especially Summer . Gross at Anywhere For You though
Yay for When You Were Mine, hopefully my station picks it up soon. I was going to say that was a nice rebound for Red Lights, but then it's in dropouts too so I'm not sure whether it really did get that rebound. I hope it did.
Is the airplay chart (and its archives) available anywhere online?
It's amazing how powerful a song appearing in a TV promo can be in terms of the impact on its sales. "The Power of Love" isn't really being embraced by radio (as noted above), yet its sales are very high. Of course, we've seen this happen many times in the past, and Channel 7 seem to be particularly good at boosting an artist's sales in this way.
Interesting to see Brave and Undressed still peaking here. Gross at She Looks So Perfect in the top 5 but it's good to see Happy down to #6, hope it means that it'll start to drop now. Summer, Braveheart, Never Be The Same, High, Replay, #SEFLIE, Tsunami (Jump), The Power Of Love, Geronimo, My Love and I Got U all up is great
Ooh yay for Summer and Chandelier but ouch Undressed. I guess Happy's big drop is partly why it has relatively dropped so far from #1 on iTunes in the past few days, hope it keeps dropping! Birthday and I Will Never Let You Down in is cool and good riddance to Trumpets and Red Lights
I think since a lot of CHR stations are under the same banner, songs being dropped from playlists is very in sync. We have 200ish spin drops reasonably often, but it just so happens that Guetta was in a good spot to drop a lot of spots. At least that's what I think
Lowest current ARIA position for a #1 since LOOF was #11 once Interesting that Waves is above Stolen Dance. lol at NBTS still top 20 and up 2 spots It also still surprises me that ASFOS and Tightrope aren't higher. Last edited:
Lol at Faded still peaking! Great to see Que Sera's closest competitors catching up to it, hopefully Am I Wrong will be #1 next week. Nice to see radio pick Ghost up so quickly, but I could do without the other three entries Last edited:
Come on Que Sera. Shame to see Geronimo falling away quickly, I thought it might have better longevity. Weirdo Faded! Nice jump for Madden Brothers and awesome to see Taylor make it in. In fact, I'm happy with all the entries except for the Ghost thing which I haven't heard and probably won't give a stuff about[/pre-judging]. Hideaway fell hard which is strange, especially as my station seems to have just picked it up this week.
You'd think it'd be a good chart this week, but the entries are a pretty poor lot and Taylor plummets already which is not nice. I'm at least glad to see Andy Grammer taking off and I do like all of the top four.
Nice to see Jubel and Prayer In C get solid positions on the EOY despite only getting plays in the 2nd half of the year and also proof that radio really weirdly rejected You Ruin Me despite being an ARIA #1 hit only getting #97. That top 3 looks about right for the most over exposed tracks of the year.
