Brisbane six-piece Sheppard retain their No.1 position on the ARIA Singles chart this week as “Geronimo” also claims Gold (●) in sales in its fourth week in the charts. Plus as the past four Australian performed No.1 songs only stayed atop for a single week, “Geronimo” is now the longest run at the top by a local act since Guy Sebastian spent six weeks at No.1 from August 2012 with “Battle Scars”.

Jumping up a couple of places to a new peak of No.2, and also landing a Gold (●) certification is Sia with “Chandelier”, which becomes her second highest chart appearance, as her vocals appeared on the Flo Rida track “Wild Ones” which spent six weeks at the top from mid-January 2012. And with two Aussie acts occupying the top two, the last time this occurred was back in August 2012 when Guy Sebastian was at the top (see above), with Justice Crew and “Boom Boom” at No.2.

Pharrell is now spending his nineteenth week within the Top 10, and with “Happy” only dropping to No.3 this week, the song now racks up a seventeenth week within the Top 3. Climbing up two places to a new peak of No.4 is Calvin Harris with “Summer”, now his fourth Top 5 hit in Australia, whilst holding at their peak of No.5 for a second week is Peking Duk with “High”.

Jessica Mauboy leaps up eleven places to No.6 with “Never Be the Same”, landing her a seventh Top 10 placing in Australia, whilst “Rather Be” for Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne falls down four places to No.7 this week, and former No.1 “She Looks So Perfect” for 5 Seconds of Summer is down two places to No.9. Two acts make their ARIA Top 10 debut this week by climbing up into the ten, firstly Zendaya is up three places to No.8 with “Replay” and also up three to No.10 are DVBBS & Borgeous featuring Tinie Tempah with “Tsunami (Jump)”. It also becomes Tinie’s third Top 10 appearance here, all now as guest vocalist (none as lead), the first was with Labrinth on “Earthquake” (HP-4, peaked April 2012) and the other was on the Rita Ora song “R.I.P.” (HP-10 peaked Oct 2012).

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Coldplay jump back up five places to No.11 with “Magic”, but leaping up ten to No.15 is Justin Timberlake with “Not a Bad Thing”, becoming his first Top 20 entry since “Mirrors” made it to No.10 in May 2013. Last weeks highest new entry for Rita Ora, “I Will Never Let You Down” is up three places this week to a new peak of No.16, whilst cracking the Top 20 for the first time, up a couple of places to No.20 are Route 94 with “My Love”. Iggy Azalea with “Fancy” (26 to 23) and Duke Dumont with “I Got U” (30 to 25) turn around and climb back up the charts, whilst cracking the Top 40 for the first time are John Martin with “Anywhere for You” (42 to 35) and from the ‘Divergent’ soundtrack, Ellie Goulding’s “Beating Heart” jumps up fourteen places to No.38.

DOWN DOWN: Dropping three places to No.12 is David Guetta and Skylar Grey with “Shot Me Down” (HP-3x2, WI10-6), but down five to No.13 is Gabrielle Aplin with her version of “The Power of Love” (HP-5, WI10-4), with the third top-ten dropout being “#SELFIE” (HP-3, WI10-4) for The Chainsmokers, which tumbles eleven places to No.21. Sara Bareilles with “Brave” (now 2x▲ Platinum) is down five to No.17 and Joel Fletcher is down four to No.19 with “Loco”. Kim Cesarion drops seven to No.30 with “Undressed” and last weeks debut at No.21 for 360 and Pez, “Live it Up”, falls ten to No.31 this week. John Legend continues to sell his now 5x▲ Platinum former No.1 “All of Me” (32 to 34), whilst Rihanna and her “Jump” tumble eight to No.41 this week. Falling out of the Top 50 are Chet Faker with “Talk is Cheap” (38 to 51), London Grammar with “Strong” (36 to 55), “Last Night” for The Vamps (41 to 69), “Gooey” for Glass Animals (40 to 77) and even though it’s being used across ‘The Voice S3’ promo’s, “Beautiful” for Enrique and Kylie tumbles from No.47 to No.79 this week.

Samantha Jade lands the highest new entry of the week, as her song “Up!” is new at No.18, with the track recorded as a theme for the Socceroos at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. This becomes Sammi’s ninth Top 100 entry and fifth Top 40 entry, plus her first new entry for 2014. And another local act debuts at No.28, Gympie NSW metalcore act The Amity Affliction with “Pittsburgh”, which becomes their first Top 40 entry and third Top 100 entry, and is the first taste of their June due fourth album “Let the Ocean Take Me”. Their previous Top 100 entries have been “Chasing Ghosts” (HP-100, August 2012) and their version of Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” (HP-82, February 2014).

There are three more Top 50 entries this week, with the third (local) chart entry from Katy Perry’s “Prism” album coming in at No.42 entitled “Birthday”, with previous entries from the album being “Roar” (TW-50) and “Unconditionally” (drops out this week). The fifth album for Passenger is due in June entitled “Whispers”, with the title track selling on the digital charts for the past couple of weeks, now the first single from the album debuts at No.43 this week “Hearts on Fire”, whilst his former No.1 single “Let Her Go” is at No.98 this week, and this becomes his third chart entry. The final Top 50 entry is in at No.47, “Television” for the recently reformed local band Short Stack. This new entry becomes the bands ninth Top 100 entry, with their last being the late September 2011 single “Bang, Bang Sexy” (HP-56).

Lower 50: Eminem and Rihanna performed their former No.1 single “The Monster” at the 2014 MTV Movie Awards this past week, which could be why the track is back up eight places to No.53 this week, whilst up a place to a new peak of No.54 is DJ Snake with “Turn Down for What”. Sam Smith climbs a couple of places to a new peak of No.57 with “Money on My Mind”, and Lily Allen’s performance of “Air Balloon” on Graham Norton Show last Sunday night (here) helps the song to climb back up ten places to No.63. Asgeir continues to climb ever so slightly each week, with “King and Cross” up to a new peak of No.75 this week, and there are two re-entries to lower section of the chart this week, “Fever” (HP-65) for The Black Keys at No.87 and coming back in at No.96 are Bliss N’ Eso with “My Life” (HP-26) helped by their current tour.

X-Factor 2013 contestant Joelle (Hadjia) lands her second chart entry this week, as her first mainstream single “Save Me” debuts at No.56. During the 2013 season of XF, she managed at No.33 placing with her rendition of the Concrete Blonde track “Joey” (Sept 2013). Lily Allen sees the third single from her forthcoming third album “Sheezus” debut at No.60 entitled “Our Time”, becoming her fourteenth Top 100 entry.

A second 2014 World Cup anthem debuts at No.61, Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez with Claudita Leitte and the track “We Are One (Ole Ola)”, whilst the first new materiel from Lana Del Rey’s forthcoming album “Ultraviolence” (no date as yet) debuts at No.64 entitled “West Coast”, which becomes her sixth chart entry here in Australia.

The final Top 70 entry is by local DJ, Timmy Trumpet and his first entry at No.67 is entitled “Freaks”. Landing the new No.1 album in the country is another local act; Chet Faker with “Built on Glass”, with the next track lifted from the album debuting at No.81 entitled “1998”. Chet is also charting at No.51 with “Talk is Cheap” and alongside fellow label-mate Flume with “Drop the Game” at No.84. Landing their third Top 100 chart entry is Showtek with “We Like to Party” (not the Vengaboys song), with their previous entries being “Hell Yeah!” (as guest of Tiesto) (HP-92, Nov 2012) and “Booyah” (HP-87, Sept 2013). And the final new entry at No.95 is the first singles chart entry for First Aid Kit with “My Silver Lining”, the first new material from the bands forthcoming third album “Stay Gold” (due June).

Scoring the 700th No.1 album in Australia (1965 to 2014) is local singer/songwriter Chet Faker with his debut album “Built on Glass”, whilst there are Aussie artists occupying five of the top six albums in the country this week.

“Built on Glass” is Chet’s first album, as his other charting set “Thinking in Textures” (TW-43) is classed as a mini-album or even EP, with it reaching a new peak of No.38 last week, so this new set for Chet becomes his first Top 10 placing also. It’s also the second No.1 album for the Future Classic label, which went to the top for a week in February 2013 with the self-titled Flume album (TW-75).

The new Chet album not only becomes the 700th No.1 album in Australia (since 1965) it’s also the 551st for ARIA (1983 to 2014), plus the 350th album to debut at No.1. “Built on Glass” also sees the first time that the words ‘Built’ or ‘Glass’ have appeared in a No.1 album, and the new chart-topping album also becomes the 170th album by an Australian Performer to make it to No.1. Plus it’s the 196th album for a solo Male Act and Chet is the 90th Australian Performer to land a No.1 album and the 22nd Australian Male Act to reach the top.

After seven broken weeks at No.1, INXS drop down a place to No.2 with their collection “The Very Best”, and a fourth straight week at No.3 is the “Frozen” Soundtrack (BTW, the DVD/BR is out at the end of April, so it won’t drop anytime soon). Last year music legend Russell Morris scored his first ever Top 10 album as “Sharkmouth” (TW-70) spent two broken weeks at No.6 from late April, and now this week he debuts at No.4 with his second blues-infused album “Van Diemen’s Land” (the original name for Tasmania), which instantly becomes the highest charting album of his career.

The Voice winner for last year, Harrison Craig debuts at No.5 with his second album “L.O.V.E.”, which is an album of covers and love songs, with his debut set reaching No.1 for two weeks last July. The fifth of the six Aussie acts within the Top 10 is at No.6, Dan Sultan with “Blackbird”, which is only down two places this week, whilst also down two is Pharrell Williams’ “G I R L” album and Katy Perry with “Prism” to No.7 and No.8 respectively. That final local act within the ten is at No.9, John Butler Trio with “Flesh & Blood” is up one place helped by their current national tour, and up three places to a new peak of No.10 is the new entry from last week, “Abba Gold & More (Anniversary Edition)” for ABBA.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Lorde is due for her national tour at the end of the month, thus her album “Pure Heroine” is back up to No.11 this week, whilst currently touring the nation is Bliss N’ Eso, which helps their former No.1 album “Circus in the Sky” to not only jump up eleven places to No.13 this week, but it’s also now certified ▲ Platinum in sales. Jessica Mauboy leaps back up twenty-five places to No.17 with her “Beautiful” album thanks to her new Top 10 single from the set, and now that the film is out in cinema’s, the “Divergent” Soundtrack leaps up thirty-six places to No.18 this week. After returning at No.94 last week, Cliff Richard’s 100th album “The Fabulous Rock N’ Roll Songbook” leaps up sixty-seven places to a new peak of No.27, and also into the Top 50 this week are the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Greatest Hits” (61 to 48) and cracking the fifty for the first time is the Divinyls “Greatest Hits” (68 to 50).

DOWN DOWN: Down five to No.12 is the Johnny Cash album “Out Among the Stars” (HP-4, WI10-2), and after debuting at No.2 last week, Ball Park Music with “Puddinghead” falls down to No.14 this week. After a ninth accumulated week within the Top 10, “If You Wait” (HP-2) for London Grammar drops seven to No.15 this week, and down seven to No.16 is Skrillex with “Recess” (HP-4, WI10-4). “English Rain” for Gabrielle Aplin drops eight places to No.24, whilst last weeks tumbler for Steel Panther, “All You Can Eat” drops seventeen places this week to No.28. Now that the series has finished screening, the “Love Child” Soundtrack is down eight this week to No.36, whilst last weeks re-entry for “Nevermind” by Nirvana falls nineteen places to No.40 this week. Kylie’s “Kiss Me Once” is down twelve to No.41 and MKTO fall eight to No.44 with their self-titled album. Big falls out of the Top 50 come via George Michael (26 to 53), Robbie Williams (46 to 72), Kate Miller-Heidke (44 to 81) and Shakira (48 to 95), whilst falling out of the Top 100 from last weeks fifty are The Used (#12), Tim Campbell (#25), Marcia Hines (#27) and Justin Timberlake (#47).

The third ARIA chart entry for California band Black Label Society is the bands tenth studio album “Catacombs of the Black Vatican” which comes in at No.31, becoming the bands highest charting album in Australia, as previously they have entered with “Order of the Black” (HP-44, August 2010, LP#8) and “Shot to Hell” (HP-64, Sept 2006, LP#7). The debut album for American Authors is new at No.35 entitled “Oh, What a Life”, featuring the former No.10 single “Best Day of My Life” (TW-26).

The third album for The Voice artist Rachael Leahcar comes in at No.38 entitled “Here Comes the Sun”, with her two previous entries being “Romantique” (HP-10, May 2013) and “Shooting Star” (HP-5, July 2012). And local Melbourne band Saskwatch see their second album become their first ARIA Albums chart entry, as “Nose Dive” comes in at No.46 this week.

Lower 50: There are NO new entries to the lower half of the top hundred, but thanks to his pending tour, and re-packaged album, Jason DeRulo with “Tattoos” is back up fourteen places to No.52, whilst Blink 182’s “Greatest Hits” is back up twenty-four places to No.64. Boy & Bear are back up fifteen places to No.68 with “Harlequin Dream” and with the new Russell Morris album debuting within the top five, his previous set “Sharkmouth” rises back up twenty-five spots to No.70. With new Passenger music charting this week, his current album “All the Little Lights” is back up nineteen spots to No.77 and two albums are re-certified this week in the lower fifty, “The Essential” for Roy Orbison (#85) is now 2x▲ Platinum and Calvin Harris’ “18 Months” (#87) is newly ▲ Platinum in sales.

Returning albums this week include “Triple J Like a Version 9” at No.63, Ellie Goulding with “Halycon Days” at No.83 thanks to her new single cracking the Top 50, The Amity Affliction with “Chasing Ghosts” at No.90 helped by their first ever Top 30 singles chart placing, Guns N’ Roses with their “Greatest Hits” collection at No.91, after one week out of the Top 100, “Midnight Memories” for One Direction is back in at No.93 and the self-titled album for Birdy returns at No.96.

Finally, happy is slowly going down

Yay for Sia having her first major hit which doesn't involve her collaborating with a douchebag
Still super thrilled that this is #1. There's nothing on the horizon I'd prefer, so let's go for a Happy run!
So this week there are no less than 5 tracks being arbitarily excluded from the chart, it's getting ridiculous
Completely agree Hijinx. At least Birthday and Heart's On Fire weren't denied like I was expecting would happen.

On a different note, with We Are One (Ole Ola) debuting this week we have a Brazilian artist (Cláudia Leitte) charting. I was just wondering when was the last time a Brazilian artist charted in the ARIA top 100 and what song was it?
@Zacco333: It could be Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots? (HP-44, 3/3/96)
@NationOfZealots Thanks for that, the only other Brazilian song/artist I could think of that charted on ARIA was Lambada by Kaoma in 1990.
Broadcast up!

Playing ARIA movers/shakers and then the ACI
