The Madden Brothers remain atop the ARIA Singles chart for a second week with “We Are Done”, the track picking up a ▲Platinum certification after achieving Gold in sales just last week.

David Guetta and Sam Martin debut at No.2 with “Lovers on the Sun” which becomes David’s first ever Top 10 debut and eighth overall as ‘highest new entry of the week’, his last being the re-entry of ‘Turn Me on” (HP-3, peaked Jan 2012, debuted 19-Dec-2011). It also becomes Guetta’s fourteenth Top 10 single in Australia and his now third successive after “Shot Me Down” (HP-3, peaked mid-March) and “Bad” (HP-5, peaked first week of May), with Australia being the first country to place this new song within the Top 10, plus this is the title track for David’s upcoming album. This is also the first entry for Con Bro Chill lead singer Sam Martin, who has previously written the songs “Daylight” for Maroon 5 and “Like a Drum” for Guy Sebastian.

Ella Henderson blasts up nine places to land at No.3 with “Ghost”, the track having spent two weeks at No.1 in England in early June, whilst last weeks highest new entry of “Break Free” for Ariana Grande and Zedd is down a place to No.4, whilst former No.1 “Que Sera” by Justice Crew drops three places to No.5, and Tove Lo is stable at No.6 with “Stay High”.

Paloma Faith snuck into the charts last week at No.82 with “Only Love Can Hurt Like This”, but after NOVA put the track on high rotation plus the Channel 7 show ‘Winners & Losers’ used the track in their credits for the past two weeks, it all helps Paloma to land not only her first Top 50 hit, but her first Top 10 in Australia as the track bullets all the way to No.7. Paloma’s previous chart entry was “Can’t Rely on You” which climbed to No.64 back in March, and of course this helps her album “A Perfect Contradiction” (HP-22, mid-March) to return at No.26 this week.

After peaking at No.4 last week, Ed Sheeran drops four places to No.8 with “Don’t” and the debut album for Sheppard “Bombs Away” lands at No.2 this week, whilst their former No.1 “Geronimo” is back up four places to No.9, with Nico & Vinz rounding out the Top 10, dropping three places to No.10 with “Am I Wrong?”

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: G.R.L. leap twenty-five places to No.16 this week with their first solo entry “Ugly Heart”, whilst Illy is back up a couple of places to No.19 with “Tightrope” (HP-18), and the official new single for 5 Seconds of Summer “Amnesia” is back up eight places to No.20 this week. Will.i.am and Cody Wise debuted at No.1 in England this week with “It’s My Birthday”, which is up to a new peak of No.29 here, and after falling last week, Hilltop Hoods are back up to No.30 with “Won’t Let You Down”. George Ezra jumps up twenty-six spots to a new peak of No.32 with “Budapest”, and after creeping around the lower end of the Top 50 for the past three weeks, T.I. and Iggy Azalea jump up this week to a new peak of No.36 with “No Mediocre”, with Jeremih and YG are up eight places to a new peak of No.45 with “Don’t Tell ’em” which becomes his second Top 50 single in Australia.

DOWN DOWN: After nine broken weeks within the Top 10, “Stay with Me” (HP-5) by Sam Smith is down three places this week to No.11 and it scores a 2x▲Platinum certification, whilst after one week within the ten at No.9, “Boom Clap” for Charli XCX is down three to No.12. The third and final drop from the ten is Sia with “Chandelier” (HP-2x3) which has spent fifteen consecutive weeks inside the Top 10 and is down eight this week to No.13 now that her album “1000 Forms of Fear” is out (TW-5). “Waves” by Mr. Probz is down four to No.15 and is also 2x▲Platinum in sales, with Coldplay down four to No.18 with “A Sky Full of Stars”. Iggy’s “Fancy” and Zhu’s “Faded” both drop seven places each to No.23 and No.24 respectively, and “Sing” for Ed Sheeran falls eight to No.27. Idina Menzel also tumbles eight to No.34 with “Let it Go” and Andy Grammer is back down twelve to No.39 with “Back Home”. “Don’t Stop” for 5SOS and “MMM Yeah” for Austin Mahone both drop ten places to No.41 and No.42 respectively with “Bad” for David Guetta dropping eleven to No.48. Falling out from last weeks Top 50 are “Hideaway” by Kiesza (46 to 55), “Something’s Missing” by Sheppard (42 to 63), “Brave” by Sara Bareilles (47 to 72), and “Gold” by Chet Faker (40 to 91).

Vance Joy lands the second highest new entry of the week, as their second chart entry “Mess is Mine” comes in at No.37, whilst their first entry “Riptide” is still charting after 65 weeks, having peaked at No.6 and sitting at No.58 this week. This new track is taken from his forthcoming debut album “Dream Your Life Away” which is due in early September. Also due for a new album later this year is Usher, who debuts at No.40 with “She Came to Give it to You” featuring Nicki Minaj as guest vocalist. It’s the second track this year for Usher, who also hit No.44 in May with “Good Kisser”, plus this becomes his 32nd Top 100 and his 28th Top 50 appearance.

The Voice: Live Finals; With only eight contestants left in this years series, Johnny Rollins lands the highest entry from this weeks show with his rendition of “When a Man Loves a Woman” at No.38 (Percy Sledge 1966, Jimmy Barnes 1988). Anja Nissen is the next entry from the show at No.57 with “I Have Nothing” (Whitney Houston) and then Jackson Thomas with “When the War is Over” (Cold Chisel 1982, Cosima 2004), whilst the last entry via the show is Ricky Martin at No.75 who performed his new track “Vida” at the end of the show, and it becomes his fourteenth entry on the ARIA Charts, his last being in late June 2013 when “Come With Me” debuted and peaked at No.3. The X-Factor also started this week, and tracks sung by contestants on the show which re-enter this week include “Clown” (HP-34) by Emeli Sande back in at No.43, along with “Halo” and “Ave Maria” by Beyonce at No.80 and No.90 respectively.

Lower 50: After returning at No.83 last week, Milky Chance leap up twenty-two places to a new peak of No.51 with their second entry “Flashed Junk Mind”, and due to his new entry this week “Riptide” by Vance Joy is back up sixteen places to No.58. Taylor Henderson’s debut at No.1 with his second album “Burnt Letters” helps his former No.5 single “When You Were Mine” back up eighteen spots to No.71. Dillon Francis and DJ Snake are up four places to a new peak of No.77 with “Get Low” and Lorde’s current tour helps her first entry “The Love Club” EP to rise back up to No.82 this week. Salt-N-Pepa return at No.66 with their first entry “Push it” (HP-3, peaked Oct 1988) at No.66 thanks to its use in a new car commercial, and also returning is “Black Widow” for Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora at a new peak of No.85, plus Iggy’s “Work” (HP-79) is back in at No.93, with “Loyal” by Chris Brown returning at No.92 and Avicii’s “Hey Brother” back at No.99.

The Broods land their second chart entry at No.54 with “Mother & Father”; their self-titled EP peaked at No.51 back in mid-June when they toured with Ellie Goulding. New at No.65 is Ricki-Lee with “Happy Ever After” which is taken from her recent ‘All You Need is Love” (EP) (HP-39, May) and this new entry becomes her sixteenth chart entry.

Colbie Caillat debuts at No.67 with “Try” which becomes her fourth chart entry here, and her first since 2012’s “Brighter Than the Sun” (HP-94, Feb 2012). Gabrielle Aplin is new at No.86 with her third entry “Please Don't Say You Love Me”, which has been used in the current ‘House Husbands’ ads on Channel 9, whilst coming in at No.94 is rapper Clipping featuring Cocc Pistol Cree and the track “WorkWork”, his first chart entry. The final new entry is at No.98, “Hear Me” for Ivan Gough featuring Feenixpawl and Christine Hoberg, becoming both Ivan’s and Feenix’s second entry, as they both teamed up for “In My Mind” (HP-29, peaked early June 2012).

The race for the No.1 spot this week was won by an act who first topped the charts seven months ago, X-Factor 2013 runner-up Taylor Henderson, who lands his second entry and second No.1 with “Burnt Letters” this week coming straight in at the top of the ARIA Albums chart.

“Burnt Letters” becomes the 709th No.1 album in Australia (1965 to 2014) and the 560th for ARIA (1983 to 2014), plus the 358th to debut at No.1. Plus it’s the third successive Australian album to debut at the top, whilst this time last year we had five Aussie’s debut with new albums at the top, Harrison Craig, Bliss N’ Eso, Karnivool, Rufus and Boy & Bear, although they were not all back to back, as Pink and her set “The Truth About Love” kept climbing back in between several of the debuts.

Taylors’ self-titled set hit the top back on 9th of December, 2013, staying atop for a single week, which was also the last time that Sony (local) had a chart-topping album, so this becomes their first for 2014. It’s the first time that both the words ‘Burnt’ (or even ‘burn’) and ‘Letters’ (or singular) has appeared in a No.1 album title, and the album becomes the 174th No.1 album by an Australian artist, the seventh this year, plus it’s the 198th for a Solo Male Artist, and the sixth for 2014.

Another local act Sheppard debuts at No.2 with their first album “Bombs Away”, which was the top selling digital album of the week; and features their three current charting singles “Geronimo” (TW-9), “Let Me Down Easy” (TW-52) and their latest release “Something’s Missing” (TW-63). Rise Against are the third and final Top 10 entry of the week, with their seventh studio album “The Black Market” entering at No.3 becoming their fifth chart entry (four studio and one compilation) and their third Top 10 placing after “Endgame” (HP-2, March 2011, LP#6) and “Appeal to Reason” (HP-7, Oct 2008, LP#5).

Ed Sheeran is down a couple of places to No.4 with his latest album “x” and last weeks No.1 entry “1000 Forms of Fear” by Sia drops four places to No.5 this week. The self-titled 5 Seconds of Summer album is down two places to No.6 and dropping a single spot to No.7 is the “Frozen” soundtrack, whilst the last former No.1 within the ten is “Ghost Stories” by Coldplay, down one place to No.8. The second soundtrack within the Top 10 this week is for “Jersey Boys”, which rises four to a new peak of No.9 to become the first ever Four Seasons placing within the Top 10 (they’re previous best effort was “Four Seasons Greatest Hits”, which peaked at No.24 in May 1976). The final album within the ten at No.10 is Hillsong with “No Other Name”.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: Paloma Faith re-enters at No.26 with “A Perfect Contradiction” (HP-22, peaked back in March) thanks to her first ever Top 10 singles spot this week, and with Miley Cyrus tickets now on sale for her forthcoming tour, her former No.1 “Bangerz” is back in at No.35, and The Pierce Brothers rebound back up forty-three places to land at No.40 with their EP “The Night Tree”. The ABC screened the Queen doco again this week, which helps their 1982 No.2 album “Greatest Hits” back up twenty-five places to No.48 and First Aid Kit are back up twenty-one spots to No.50 with “Stay Gold”.

DOWN DOWN: The four albums leaving the Top 10 this week include Lana Del Rey’s “Ultraviolence” (10 to 12, WI10-4, HP-1x1), “Built on Glass” by Chet Faker (9 to 21, WI10-8, HP-1x1) and after one a week within the ten, “Here’s to You & I” for The McClymonts drops seven to No.15 and “Startup Cult” by AllDay tumbles twenty-one places to No.24 this week. The Amity Affliction drop seven to No.22 with “Let the Ocean Take Me”, and Linkin Park fall eight to No.25 with “The Hunting Party”. “Prism” by Katy Perry is down eight to No.28 and Jack White’s “Lazaretto” is down ten to No.32 whilst Ed Sheeran’s “+” falls fifteen to No.34. The Arctic Monkeys tumble ten to No.37 with “AM” and ‘The Fault in Our Stars’ soundtrack is down thirteen to No.39, with Violent Soho’s “Hungry Ghost” also dropping thirteen to No.41. With his tour now over, Keith Urban’s “Fuse” tumbles twelve to No.42 and deadmau5 falls twenty to No.45 with “While (1<2)”, with Jason DeRulo down ten to No.47 with “Tattoos” and The Vamps “Meet the Vamps” falling thirteen to No.49. Falling out from last weeks Top 50 includes Russell Morris (34 to 51), Imagine Dragons (41 to 54), ZHU (33 to 59), OneRepublic (49 to 64), Michael Jackson’s “Xscape” (38 to 69), the only new cert this week, achieving Gold (●) in sales. Also down are Mastodon (35 to 72), The Black Keys (42 to 75), Chet Faker’s “Thinking in Textures” (48 to 83), Trey Songz (21 to 84), and falling out of the Top 100 from last weeks fifty are Sleepmakeswaves (#31), David Gray (#40), plus the six Something for Kate albums that returned all leave this week (#44, #45, #50, #51, #52, and #54).

The eleventh studio album for California’s Pennywise debuts at No.16 entitled “Yesterdays” and it features unrecorded compositions by their late bassist Jason Thirsk, plus it also their first album with singer Jim Lindberg since his departure in 2009. It’s the bands tenth album to chart in Australia (nine studio and one live), plus by entering at No.16 it becomes their third highest charting album. Above it are “Full Circle” (HP-13, May 1997), “From the Ashes” (HP-13, Sept 2003) and their only Top 10 set “Straight Ahead” (HP-8, June 1999).

Jason Mraz sees his fifth studio album enter at No.17 entitled “Yes!”, which becomes his highest new entry and his fourth album to chart here (LP#2 didn’t make it). It also becomes his second highest charting album, with his third set “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things” peaking at No.3 for four weeks (from Sept 2008). His last entry was April 2012’s “Love is a Four Letter Word” (HP-23). The twelve member 1970’s-funk-styled London group Jungle, see their self-titled debut album come in at No.20 this week, whilst local artist Andy Bull sees his second album “Sea of Approval” new at No.23, becoming his first albums chart entry, as 2009’s “We’re Too Young” failed to chart.

American deathcore band Suicide Silence also see their first chart entry occur this week with their fourth album entitled “You Can't Stop Me” coming in at No.30, whilst classic metal band Judas Priest are new one place lower at No.31 with “Redeemer of Souls”, which is their seventeenth studio album and eighth to chart since they first charted here in 1982. And the final Top 50 entry is from Sunshine Coast artist D at Sea (Doyle Perez) who sees his first albums chart entry at No.33 entitled “Anchors & Diamonds (EP)”.

Albums returning this week are from Gabrielle Aplin (#86), Whitney Houston’s “Ultimate Collection” (#90), Asgeir (#93), Eminem’s “Curtain Call: The Hits” (#96) and Ricky Martin with his “Greatest Hits” collection (#97).

Morrissey sees his tenth studio album and first new album in five years entitled “World Peace is None of Your Business” enters at No.58, becoming his eleventh entry in Australia (ten studios and one collection), with his last entry being February 2009’s “Years of Refusal” (HP-87). With the ‘Jersey Boys’ soundtrack cracking the Top 10, two Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons collections enter the charts this week, with ‘Jersey’s Best: The Very Best of” coming in at No.60 and “The Very Best of Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons” coming in at No.99. These two entries become their fifth and sixth compilations to chart in Australia and their first entries since the compilation “Hits” made it to No.68 in February 1993 (around the time that the remix for ‘December 1963, Oh What a Night’ was high on the charts for the second time).

What does it mean for albums / singles like Something For Kate and all The Voice songs that don't have below 100 positions, that they just completely dropped off the radar?
Last edited:

I only saw a few below 100 numbers, and the songs above assigned were all within 101-130, so yes they all fell below 130.
