Taylor Swift spends her longest run at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart this week, as her second No.1 “Shake it off” racks up a third consecutive week at the chart pinnacle, passing the two broken weeks her previous chart-topper “Love Story” achieved back in 2009, plus the track is now ▲Platinum in sales too.

Meghan Trainor holds at No.2 for a third week also, but she is in the country this coming week, so her X-Factor and other show appearances might re-boost her back to No.1 with “All About That Bass” for a fourth non-consecutive week. Redfoo leaps up six places to a new peak of No.3 with “New Thang”, this week last year he was at the top with “Let’s Get Ridiculous” which rises back up to No.84 this week.

Ariana Grande was in the country this week promoting her second album and doing TV appearance, particularly the X-Factor performances where she sung a medley of her current chart entries, which helps “Bang Bang” alongside Jessie J and Nicki Minaj to leap back up seven places to its former peak of No.4, plus the track cracks ▲Platinum in sales too. The XF effect also occurs for George Ezra and “Budapest”, although he didn’t appear on the show, the song was performed by Dean Ray, which boosts the song back up eight places to No.6 this week and also to ▲Platinum in sales.

“Ugly Heart” for G.R.L. is down two places to No.5 and also slipping a couple of spots is Timmy Trumpet and Savage with “Freaks” down to No.7 and newly certified ▲Platinum, whilst dropping four places to No.8 is “Jubel” for Klingande. Paloma Faith is down three to No.9 with “Only Love Can Hurt like This” (now 2x▲Platinum) and also down three to No.10 is Lilly Wood & the Prick with the Robin Schultz remix of this weeks UK No.1 single “Prayer in C”.

NEW PEAKS & MOVERS: 5 Seconds of Summer released their “Amnesia” EP this week, which helps boost the track back up six places to No.11 and the set is now ▲Platinum, and back up three places to No.13 is this week’s promo tourist Ariana Grande with “Break Free” whilst “Problem” is back up nine spots to No.29. Echosmith leap up twelve places to No.18 with “Cool Kids” and further new peaks come from Pitbull with “Fireball” (31 to 26) and Becky G with “Shower (27 to 26). XF act Jason Heerah performed the new Usher and Nicki Minaj track “She Came to Give it to You” which helps it climb to a new peak of No.32 and the track achieves Gold ● in sales.

DOWN DOWN: After two weeks at No.8 “Anaconda” for Nicki Minaj is back down four places to No.12 this week, whilst the other track to drop from the Top 10 is AJR with “I’m Ready”, which spent four weeks within the ten, peaking at No.5. Itch drops four places to No.16 with “Another Man” and also down four to No.17 is Ella Henderson with “Ghost” (now 2x▲Platinum), and dropping eight from its peak of No.15 to No.23 is Iggy Azalea and Rita Ora with “Black Widow”. Sam Smith is down six to No.24 with “Stay with Me” and Guy Sebastian also drops six to No.30 with “Come Home with Me”, which is newly certified Gold ●. Gabrielle Aplin tumbles eleven to No.34 with “Please Don’t Say You Love Me”, whilst dropping thirteen to No.35 is Eminem and Sia with “Guts Over Fear”. Dami Im is down nine to No.36 with “Gladiator” and Troye Sivan drops ten to No.43 with his “Happy Little Pill”. Dropping out from last weeks Top 50 are Duke Dumont with last weeks’ entry “Won’t Look Back” (37 to 51), “Riptide” by Vance Joy (48 to 54 and now 5x▲Platinum), Coldplay with “A Sky Full of Stars” (50 to 57) and David Guetta with Sam Martin on “Lovers on the Sun” (49 to 58).

X-FACTOR 2014: Last week the XF scored its first Top 20 entry, this week surpassing that and landing at No.15 is Dean Ray with his rendition of the George Ezra track “Budapest”. Reigan Derry’s debut at No.20 last week of “Stay With Me” drops down to No.52 this week, whilst one place lower at No.53 she debuts with her version of the Jessie J, Ariana and Nicki song “Bang Bang”, whilst expelled contestant Sydnee didn’t quite make the charts, her rendition of the London Grammar “Strong” helps the original to come back in at No.73. The weekly entrants Brother3 come in at No.91 with their version of “Pompeii” with the original by Bastille returning a few places lower at No.94, and lastly Dean Ray is down seven places to No.100 with his version of “Reckless”.

The second Top 20 debut this week comes in at No.19, and was only issued on Monday, so it’s not had a full week’s sales here yet. Calvin Harris teams with John Newman for the second single from Calvin’s forthcoming album, “Blame” which becomes his eighteenth Top 100 entry and sixteenth Top 50 placing here, whilst he is still charting with “Summer” (HP-4) which is sitting at No.80 and achieves its half-a-year on the charts this week.

A couple of weeks ago Hilary Duff spent two weeks on the charts reaching No.69 with “All About You”, which this week returns to the charts within the Top 30, coming back in at No.21 thanks to her promo tour and performing the song on this past weeks X-Factor. One place lower new at No.22 is the third single for local singer Nathaniel, this time with the upbeat track “Live Louder”, and he will be performing the track on this weeks X-Factor shows. The final Top 50 entry of the week comes in at No.44, Nickelback with “What Are You Waiting for?” which is taken from their forthcoming early November due set “No Fixed Address”. The album has already produced the chart entry “Edge of a Revolution” which climbed to No.60 a couple of weeks ago.

Lower 50: Fences with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis jump up twenty-one places to No.55 with the track “Arrows” and The Madden Brothers second entry “Dear Jan” climbs to a new peak of No.60. Illy is up a few places to No.63 with “One for the City” and back up fifteen spots to No.84 is Redfoo with “Let’s Get Ridiculous”, whilst the only other re-entry is Sara Barielles with “Brave” at No.99.

Fall Out Boy is to release their as yet untitled sixth studio album early in 2015, and the first taste from that future album is entitled “Centuries” which is new at No.59 this week. It’s the twelfth Top 100 chart entry for the group, and the song has a loop of the 1990 single “Tom’s Diner” by Suzanne Vega (HP-8, peaked late November) throughout the song.

With the release of the CD Single, 7” single and digital EP of “Amnesia” by 5 Seconds of Summer this week, a couple of the bonus tracks from the extended play also enter the charts this week, with “Daylight” coming in at No.61 and their cover of “American Idiot” in at No.89, the Green Day song having peaked at No.7 in early October 2004 (almost 10 years ago).

Lady Antebellum are set to release their fifth studio album at the end of September entitled “747”, and the first single from the album entitled “Bartender” is new at No.71, whilst another act who is about to release a new album, Missy Higgins, sees another cover/entry come in at No.81, the Divinyls mid-May 1988 peaking No.33 song “Back to the Wall”. Local singer/songwriter Vance Joy (real name James Keogh) takes his debut album “Dream Your Life Away” straight into the No.1 position on the ARIA Albums Chart this week.

It’s the eleventh chart-topping album for an Australian act this year and the first time ever that the Liberation label have landed back-to-back No.1’s, as Vance Joy and last weeks chart-topping album for Jimmy Barnes are both on the label, with Vance’s ascent becoming the labels seventh No.1 album in Australia overall.

I expected bigger figures for Vance Joy. Nice to see the Top 2 sell over 10,000 uniys nonetheless.

Singles sales really seem to have got stronger since June-July.
Quite disappointed at Vance Joy's sales as well.
