Forum - Personal Charts: Your Special Occasion Charts - Anton's Best Songs of All Time - 2015 Update

Hey everyone! I've hinted it several times, but over the past months I've secretly been working on an update of my BOAT! Well, I've only got a top 100 at the moment, and it'll take a lot more effort to extend to a top 400/500, which I'm not 100% sure if I'll commit to atm, but I am super excited to have a broadcast/countdown of it very soon (probably early July). My first BOAT, as great as that was, got outdated super quickly, so hopefully this new one will bring a new perspective of my ever changing tastes. This will be up to date, including 2015 songs!

2010 version to study before the new one comes out! http://www.australian-charts.com/forum.asp?todo=viewthread&id=35837&pages=

More exciting than Weldar!
Alright! Sounds good

Let's see if an update will make me like this new list more or less as just having a quick look at your top 20 in your 2010 version, it seems that I either love (6, 10, 11, 15, 16, 17, 18, 20), hate (1, 3, 4, 9) or just haven't heard the songs.

Hopefully I can do this someday after I've reviewed some more songs to see what are my absolutely favourites of all time.

In the meantime though, I'm looking forward to see how this one turns out
Can't wait, this should be fun.
UPDATE: So this update will consist of a top 200, (maybe top 250) which I will aim to complete on the 4th of July. I will then proceed to broadcast/countdown the chart over several days TBA.

Hello.

It's me.

I am very sorry for delaying this for an extra 6 months Unfortunately many things popped up during that period and I lost a lot of motivation to keep ploughing through. But there is no need to worry anymore, I am done! I have reconstructed a top 250 of what is a completely up to date Best of All Time chart! Yes, you heard it right here; this countdown will include 2015 songs and will also function as my EOY chart of 2015. Hopefully your faves fare well!

Those that have followed my charts and followed my previous BOAT will know that much has changed. I'm into genres I never even thought of liking back in 2010, and the songs that I'm charting today are completely different to what I was charting a few years ago. Don't fret though. This selection of songs will feature old and new, Bryan Adams to Swedish House Mafia, '80s power ballad to 2015 EDM and plenty in-between! I hope there will be something for all to enjoy if you can tune in!

Broadcast dates:
#250-#176 - Friday 1st of January 6pm
#175-#101 - Sunday 3rd of January 6pm
#100-#51 - TBA
#50-#1 - TBA

Hope you can join

Broadcast starting in less than an hour! Will post links and everything as well. The braodcast will be done on dubtrack but you can follow along on Spotify or I will also post Youtube links throughout
#250: TAKE CARE - Drake (feat. Rihanna) - (NEW ENTRY)

(#73 of 2010-2014)
(#21 of 2011)

Always been a big fave of this one and Rihanna is great in this too! Best of Drake.

#249: CLOSING TIME - Semisonic - (Previously #121)

(#37 of '90s)
(#10 of 1998)

A really great rock track that has really held up over the years!

#248: COME ON GET HIGHER - Matt Nathanson - (Previously #251)

(#83 of '00s)
(#16 of 2008)

A beautiful singer-songwriter track that popped up when I listened to AT40 back in early-mid 2009. Has also held up very well since.

#247: WHAT I'VE DONE - Linkin Park - (Previously #47)

(#82 of '00s)
(#11 of 2007)

Solid Linkin Park track. Hasn't quite held up but still good!

#246: FADER - The Temper Trap - (Previously #292)

(#81 of '00s)
(#14 of 2009)

Still my favourite Temper Trap song and a damn good one it is!

#245: SHAKE IT - Metro Station - (Previously #111)

(#80 of '00s)
(#15 of 2008)

Fun pop track from my early highschool days. Still very very fun.

#244: LOVIN' EACH DAY - Ronan Keating - (Previously #286)

(#79 of '00s)
(#6 of 2001)

(#3 Ronan Keating)
I have a huge soft spot for Ronan Keating and I still love heaps of many tracks from his debut album. This is very enjoyable offering and is his 1st of 3 entries in this list!

#243: SHUT UP AND DANCE - Walk The Moon - (NEW)

(#72 of 2010-2014)
(#16 of 2014)

Also (#11 of 2015)

I shouldn't really need to share my thoughts on this. Awesome track that I've really come to enjoy over 2015!

#242: STRAIGHT LINES - Silverchair - (Previously #277)

(#78 of '00s)
(#10 of 2007)

I've had a love/hate relationship with this, but some recent listens has really gotten me to really enjoy it. Sorry early Silverchair fans! I really like the production and chords in this. Great '00s hit!

#241: LOUD PLACES - Jamie xx (feat. Romy) - (NEW)

(#10 of 2015)

This took a long time to grow on me, but damn I'm so glad it did. Brilliant production and subtlety makes this (as harley said) a huge subtle banger. The album would also become one of my favourites of the year as well. My #10 track of 2015!

Not as much EDM (Or whatever the technical name is for it) as I was expecting, at least not yet. So far I like Closing Time and What I've Done and also Straight Lines is solid.
#240: GOOD RIDDANCE (TIME OF YOUR LIFE) - Green Day - (Previously #113)

(#36 of '90s)
(#9 of 1998)

Classic Green Day song is classic. Will always be enshrined in my brain because it's always played so much. Thankfully I like it quite a bit.

#239: LEAVE A LIGHT ON - Belinda Carlisle - (NEW)

(#39 of '80s)
(#8 of 1989)

(#3 Belinda Carlisle)
Our first '80s track and what a track it is! I love Belinda Carlisle. She has always been playing on the radio since I was young and has never gotten old.

#238: I'LL BE THERE FOR YOU - The Rembrandts - (Previously #207)

(#35 of '90s)
(#3 of 1996)

TV Classic indeed that I just kinda really like in a really lame way. Fun track to listen to all the time!

#237: VISION OF LOVE - Mariah Carey - (Previously #250)

(#35 of '90s)
(#4 of 1990)

(#2 Mariah Carey)
I love how she vocally goes all out in this! Such a pleasure to listen to especially when she nails those vocal runs with such relative ease! This is Mariah's 1st of 2 songs on this list.

#236: BAD DAY - Daniel Powter - (Previously #149)

(#77 of '00s)
(#6 of 2005)

Quite a typical anton song lol. But I love it and it's still quite an uplifting tune.

#235: FEEL SO CLOSE - Calvin Harris - (NEW)

(#71 of 2010-2014)
(#20 of 2011)

(#2 Calvin Harris)
Such a brilliant dance track from Calvin. Has quickly become one of his best classics.

#234: SEMI-CHARMED LIFE - Third Eye Blind - (NEW)

(#34 of '90s)
(#4 of 1997)

I've always known and liked this track, so I don't know why it was excluded from my last BOAT. Ah well.

#233: LET IT HAPPEN - Tame Imapala - (NEW)

(#9 of 2015)

Such an epic track. No words can really describe the epic-ness really. #TameImpala4Hottest100

#232: HOUDINI - Foster The People - (NEW)

(#70 of 2010-2014)
(#19 of 2011)

(#5 Foster The People)
So much fun and a great start for Foster The People. Hopefully they'll continue their streak of awesome music!

#231: DISEASE - Matchbox Twenty - (Previously #359)

(#76 of '00s)
(#4 of 2002)

(#2 Matchbox Twenty)
I've been really sick of Matchbox Twenty all my life to be honest. However, there's been a few gems in their discography that have managed to recover and hold themselves well above the rest. This is one of them! A great chorus this has.

#230: OF THE NIGHT - Bastille - (NEW)

(#69 of '2010-2014)
(#12 of 2013)

(#2 Bastille)
Solid Bastille hit that I'm still rather fond of! They have one more track a little higher up.

#229: LOVE GENERATION - Bob Sinclair presents Goleo VI feat. Gary "Nesta" Pine - (Previously 429)

(#75 of '00s)
(#5 of 2005)

Such a fun '00s classic that I've always heard around since the time it was released. Still is a lot of fun.

#228: ALREADY GONE - Taylor Henderson - (NEW)

(#68 of '2010-2014)
(#15 of 2014)

Unfortunately Borrow My Heart just missed out, but Taylor is still here! Always really liked this and still do.

#227: PARADISE - Coldplay - (NEW)

(#67 of '2010-2014)
(#18 of 2011)

(#11 Coldplay)
I love Coldplay and there's no denying that. Easily the biggest artist on this countdown, this is the first of 11 tracks to come. Paradise is a great effort and it was great to see it become a hit.

#226: TUBTHUMPING - Chumbawamba - (Previously #198)

(#33 of '90s)
(#3 of 1997)

Very lyrically clever track and overall just a really cool track!

#225: LAY IT ALL ON ME - Rudimental (feat. Ed Sheeran) - (NEW)

(#8 of 2015)

(#2 Rudimental)
(#3 Ed Sheeran)
Yeah I kinda like this a little too much, but that's just too bad on everyone else.

#224: THE HORSES - Daryl Braithwaite - (Previously #141

(#32 of '90s)
(#4 of 1991)

Very memorable and iconic track. The chorus especially has always stuck with me over the years.

#223: SHE ONLY LOVES ME WHEN I'M THERE - Ball Park Music - (NEW)

(#66 of '2010-2014)
(#14 of 2014)

This super fun and awesome track is in thanks to me hearing this on Daniel's End of Year Broadcast just under 12 months ago! Thanks for that! Loved it ever since!

#222: PIANO MAN - Billy Joel - (NEW)

(#7 of '70s)
(#2 of 1973)

(#2 Billy Joel)
Most of you know that I play the piano so I get asked to play this song a lot I've irrationally liked this for a long period because of it, but that was partly because I never really knew the song. It's actually so great and very memorable. A huge classic it deserves/d to be.

#221: EXPRESS YOURESLF - Madonna - (NEW)

(#38 of '80s)
(#7 of 1989)

(#2 Madonna)
It honestly wasn't until Born This Way where I began to notice this track. And ever since then it has always been on the radio and I've enjoyed it every time I've heard it! And so it rightly deserves this place here, because it is a great track and the first of 3 Madonna songs to come.

#220: MIAMI 2 IBIZA - Swedish House Mafia vs. Tinie Tempah - (NEW)

(#65 of '2010-2014)
(#8 of 2010)

(#3 Swedish House Mafia)
One of my favourite bangers of the early 2010s. Always a winner!

#219: WHO KNEW - P!nk - (Previously #59)

(#74 of '00s)
(#5 of 2005)

One of the few remaining P!nk songs I enjoy, but hey at least it is a really wonderful one. Great ballad from here, definitely her best.

#218: WISEMEN - James Blunt - (Previously #261)

(#73 of '00s)
(#4 of 2005)

(#2 James Blunt)
Overplay has certainly killed a lot of James Blunt's hits, except for this one! This is one of his great ones and I really enjoy hearing this.

#217: COOL - Alesso (feat. Roy English) - (NEW)

(#7 of 2015)

Two things about this. The Kylie sample and Roy English. They're both so perfect for this and make it what it is. Best house track of 2015!

#216: MAD WORLD - Gary Jules - (NEW)

(#72 of '00s)
(#2 of 2003)

This is amazing. Very emotive and one of very few tracks that really put me in a reflective mood. Great job!

#209: NOT MEANT TO BE - Theory of a Deadman - (Previously #89)

(#70 of '00s)
(#14 of 2008)

Despite the controversy surrounding this band, this song has always stuck since I loved it from AT40 days in late 2009. It's on the way down though, so non-fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

(#37 of '80s)
(#7 of 1987)

#206: NEW DIVIDE - Linkin Park - (Previously #106)

(#69 of '00s)
(#13 of 2009)

(#2 Linkin Park)
Many in their teenage years turned to Linkin Park for their angst. I was a bit too young to miss the bandwagon, but this certainly was that track for me! Very solid track that Linkin Park should be proud of, especially given their poor track of recent releases.

#205: IT'S TIME - Imagine Dragons - (NEW)

(#59 of 2010-2014)
(#13 of 2012)

Ahhh who could forget my Imagine Dragons phase in 2013? Unfortunately my love for them has considerably waned but this has been one of the surviving tracks! Still a very solid track from them to this day.

#204: YOU AND ME - Lifehouse - (Previously #38)

(#68 of '00s)

#197: NEVER SAY NEVER - The Fray - (Previously #301)

(#69 of '00s)
(#11 of 2009)

#196: KIDS - MGMT - (Previously #366)

(#68 of '00s)
(#13 of 2008)

Great alternative track from 2008! I always heard this around but it took me a long time to identify it. I have loved it ever since.

#195: 3.AM - Matchbox Twenty - (Previously #190)

(#30 of '90s)
(#2 of 1997)

That opening guitar riff always entices me into this song. It is very strong overall and is Rob Thomas/Matchbox Twenty.

#194: TOKYO (VAMPIRES & WOLVES) - The Wombats - (NEW)

(#56 of 2010-2014)
(#7 of 2010)

Absolutely pumping track from The Wombats. After discovering Techno Fan a long time ago, it took me even longer to get around this and man, I'm glad it has because it's so great. Heaps of energy and a very convincing performance for The Wombats.

(#65 of '00s)
(#9 of 2006)

The first of 4 Nickelback songs, I always liked this one. A good melody in the chorus despite the rather cliche lyrics.

#184: MAKES ME WONDER - Maroon 5 - (Previously #397)

(#64 of '00s)
(#8 of 2007)

(#1 Maroon 5)
And now we quickly arrive at the top Maroon 5 track! Easy to say I miss this side of them dearly and I wish they stayed like this. This still sounds very fresh to this day and is just darn great.

#183: SUMMER OF '69 - Bryan Adams - (Previously #28)

(#33 of '80s)
(#6 of 1985)

(#5 Bryan Adams)
And now we arrive at our first Bryan Adams track! One of his more upbeat offerings, this hasn't been as great as it was 5 years ago, but it's still very enjoyable. Can Everything I Do reach #1 again?

(#63 of '00s)

#174: CHASE THAT FEELING - Hilltop Hoods - (Previously #104)

(#59 of '00s)
(#8 of 2009)

This was one of those tracks I just somehow loved and was obsessed with in 2009. It hasn't held up that well since although Hilltop have been a consistent presence on my chart. This is still my favourite of theirs though.

#173: COMING OF AGE - Foster The People - (NEW)

(#48 of 2010-2014)
(#10 of 2014)

(#3 Foster The People)
An excellent return for Foster's sophomore album. This is sadly the only track from that album, although I do like "Best Friend" a lot as well.

#162: RADIOACTIVE - Imagine Dragons - (NEW)

(#45 of 2010-2014)
(#8 of 2013)

(#1 Imagine Dragons)
Oh how the mighty have fallen. Ruling 2013 and now down to a "#8 of 2013" and a measely 2 entries in this countdown...not that it is a bad effort at all! "Radioactive" has done very well to recover from me getting absolutely sick of it in 2014 and it has managed to claw back to where it is now.

#161: CALL ON ME - Eric Prydz - (NEW)

(#54 of '00s)
(#5 of 2004)

One of the few tracks where the dance cover scores higher than the original! This has always just been great and the video is hilarious too.

(#44 of '2010-2014)
(#3 of 2011)

My thoughts on this and the next Boy & Bear tracks are well fleshed out on the site I think, so there's not much else to say except yay! Boy & Bear have arrived! How high can Feeding Line get?

#158: HALLELUJAH - Jeff Buckley - (Previously #57)

(#25 of '90s)
(#2 of 1994)

Classic and very well deserves this place here. Admittedly it has been a overplayed but it has been so for a reason and it's always a nice moment whenever I hear this.

#157: FUNKYTOWN - Lipps Inc. - (NEW)

(#31 of '80s)

#156: OPEN YOUR EYES - Snow Patrol - (Previously #62)

(#52 of '00s)
(#8 of 2006)

Another great track from Snow Patrol. I haven't been exposed to this a lot as lot as I have back a couple of years ago but this one is still a goodie.

#154: MIRRORS - Justin Timberlake - (NEW)

Super cool track that it took me years to actually pin point. (Wasn't until 2012 I believe?) So this will have to settle with being a 'new' entry on this BOAT. Anyway, the chorus is just so awesome here. Also my #1 of 1980!

#147: SLIDE - Goo Goo Dolls - (Previously #148)

(#23 of '90s)
(#7 of 1998)

(#2 Goo Goo Dolls)
Basically a much better 3.AM lol, minus the memorable opening guitar riff but stronger in every other aspect. Nevertheless, an awesome '90s track this is that is sadly overlooked at times due to Iris.

#146: NEED YOU NOW - Lady Antebellum - (Previously #161)

(#7 of 2009)

Beautiful ballad from this great trio!

#145: MY HAPPINESS - Powderfinger - (Previously #297)

(#47 of '00s)
(#5 of 2000)

Yes. My Powderfinger positions in my last BOAT were messy and to put simply, were wrong. I hope this fixes that a little bit. This track is awesome and is in a position that I'm very happy to give them. A small shout out to "These Days" which sits in my top 300.

#141: RIGHT HERE WAITING - Richard Marx - (Previously #73)

(#26 of '80s)
(#4 of 1989)

#140: ABSOLUTELY EVERYBODY - Vanessa Amorosi - (Previously #396)

(#46 of '00s)
(#5 of 1999)

Excellent '00s dance track from Vanessa. Easily my favourite track of hers and her performance of this at the 2000 Sydney Olympics (which I very vaguely remember) was really good!

#139: REVELRY - Kings of Leon - (Previously #157)

(#45 of '00s)
(#6 of 2009)

(#4 Kings of Leon)
The Only By The Night loving starts here with this excellent song. While I sadly love some other tracks from the album of this a little more, this one is brilliant in its own right and I'm also really pleased to have pushed this up since 2010!

#138: KISS FROM A ROSE - Seal - (Previously #46)

(#23 of '90s)
(#1 of 1995)

The lone track from 1995, my birthyear appears here. This awesome ballad from Seal has really good lyrics and vocals and is composed very thoughtfully. A solid classic from the '90s and deservedly so.

#137: PARANOIA, GHOSTS & OTHER SOUNDS - SAFIA - (NEW)

(#40 of '2010-2014)
(#9 of 2014)

One of the most impressive Aussie Electronic releases in the last few years, courtesy of a band I went to same school as! The highest solo track by SAFIA after "You Are The One" which also made the top 200.

#136: TORN - Natalia Imbruglia - (Previously #92)

(#22 of '90s)
(#6 of 1998)

A wonderful Aussie pop track from Natalia that I still very distinctively remember hearing all the time in the car growing up. Has aged very well.

#135: WAKE ME UP - Avicii - (NEW)

(#39 of '2010-2014)
(#9 of 2012)

What to say about this? Well I obviously still like this but it has faded a lot since 2013. His music has pretty much been terrible since though so I may have to settle with this if I ever want to hear some Avicii lol.

#134: UNDER THE PRESSURE - The War on Drugs - (NEW)

(#38 of '2010-2014)
(#8 of 2014)

(#2 The War on Drugs)
The War on Drugs hype has really captured a few members of this site and I was certainly one of them! "Lost In The Dream" has become one of my favourite albums ever and it only felt right to acknowledge the non-Red Eyes single in this list. This is a glorious 9 minute listen and a great song for road trips!

#133: THIS YEAR - Andreas Moe - (NEW)

(#37 of '2010-2014)
(#6 of 2013)

(#2 Andreas Moe)
My love for singer-songwriter will never die it seems. This nice acoustic track from Andreas Moe lifts from his 2nd EP of the same name released in 2013.

#132: TAKE ME - RÜFÜS - (NEW)

(#36 of '2010-2014)
(#5 of 2013)

(#5 RÜFÜS)
Ahhhhhhh time for some RÜFÜS! My artist of 2015, they are primed for domination on this list and it'll be fascinating to see how they progress in future updates! Especially with an album slated to come out January 22.

#131: SUNDREAM - RÜFÜS - (NEW)

(#35 of '2010-2014)
(#4 of 2013)

(#4 RÜFÜS)
And following Take Me we have the other pairing of the song, Sundream. These two songs have always been paired together in my head and they had some memorable tussles over the years with Take Me outplacing Sundream in my Mid-Decade broadcast in early 2015. They've still got 3 big songs to come!

(#33 of 2010-2014)

(#4 of 2004)

Fantastic early '00s rock track! This has always been my favourite from Green Day and they'll never come close to reaching this in my opinion.

#125: KING AND CROSS - Asgeir - (NEW)

(#32 of 2010-2014)
(#7 of 2014)

Very delightful track from Icelandic artist Asgeir, courtesy of harley! I first heard this song on his EOY broadcast in January 2014 and I've been in love ever since. Looking forward to new music from him!

It wasn't until I first posted this in my original BOAT when I realised how awesome this track was! Very catchy and great production!

#123: BLACK FINGERNAILS AND RED WINE - Eskimo Joe - (Previously #69)

(#42 of '00s)
(#6 of 2006)

What an amazing Aussie classic. This has naturally dropped due to next entries but it is still as great as ever.

#122: I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR - U2 - (Previously #24)

(#24 of '80s)
(#5 of 1987)

(#2 U2)
The 2nd epic-ballad from U2. Despite a very impressive catalogue, this one stands tall above many of their hits.

#121: THAT'S THE WAY IT IS - Celine Dion - (NEW)

(#20 of '90s)
(#4 of 1999)

As far as inspirational ballads go, this is pretty good. I first heard this when BillyBrett nominated this when we all played Artist Showdown! I realised I was quite familiar with this track and liked it a lot, and so it comes in as a new entry here!

#119: ONE THING - One Direction - (NEW)

(#31 of 2010-2014)
(#7 of 2012)

(#1 One Direction)
Love love love this excellent fun pop track from One Direction. A bit of a shame they haven't matched this but then again, something has to be not so good.

#118: CAN'T STOP THIS THING WE STARTED - Bryan Adams - (Previously #31)

(#19 of '90s)
(#3 of 1991)

(#3 Bryan Adams)
The follow up single to former (and potentially current) BOAT 1st placer, Everything I Do, this is a much more fun and upbeat offering. This was also spammed a lot in my childhood and I still love it to this day.

#117: SOMETHING IN THE WATER - Brooke Fraser - (NEW)

(#30 of 2010-2014)
(#4 of 2010)

Absolutely delightful track from Brooke! As a fan of her early stuff it was great to see this track have some success.

#116: WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE - Billy Joel - (Previously #98)

(#23 of '80s)
(#3 of 1989)

This is just pure awesomeness. How is it not? Apparently Billy hates performing this noawadays which is amusing but understandable. Love the lyrics and the chorus hook is great.

#115: RIPTIDE - Vance Joy - (NEW)

(#29 of 2010-2014)
(#3 of 2013)

I love this song and this song is great.

#114: NO AIR - Jordin Sparks & Chris Brown - (Previously #125)

(#40 of '00s)
(#7 of 2008)

I love this ballad and I think it's the best of both artists! Their voices are great and it culminates into a very lovely song.

#113: CIRCLES - Birds of Tokyo - (NEW)

(#28 of 2010-2014)
(#11 of 2011)

(#2 Birds of Tokyo)
This is still a very strong offering and an excellent single from their album, although it hasn't aged the best.

#112: I DON'T DO SURPRISES - Axle Whitehead - (Previously #367)

(#39 of '00s)
(#6 of 2008)

This is a great song from Axle Whitehead and through constant radio exposure, I really warmed to this. A pity his scandals seems to have ruined any potential career because this is a really good offering.

#111: DEFAULT - Django Django - (NEW)

(#27 of 2010-2014)
(#6 of 2012)

Now we have this awesome track courtesy of irelander! Super fun track that I got into in 2012 thanks to his recommendation, and it has rocked straight to #111! Congratulations!

#110: COMPLICATED - Avril Lavigne - (Previously #318)

(#32 of '00s)
(#3 of 2002)

Brilliant track from Avril. This has aged to be my favourite from her, despite having some very good ballads!

#109: SO BEAUTIFUL - Pete Murray - (Previously #109)

(#31 of '00s)
(#3 of 2004)

(#2 Pete Murray)
This is the first of 2 tracks from Pete Murray! My love of his songs have made me come to realise that I will always have and always will love my Aussie singer-songwriters lol. This is a good ballad with great lyrics that I relate to.

#108: CARELESS WHISPER - George Michael - (Previously #248)

(#22 of '80s)
(#5 of 1984)

I heard this about a week before the broadcast and I just knew this was higher than I previously had it. The saxophone is iconic and the song gets more emotionally wrought (i.e. gets even better) as the song progresses. Iconic and classic track for sure.

#107: WINDOW TO THE SKY - Kim Churchill - (NEW)

(#26 of 2010-2014)
(#6 of 2014)

Heard this vaguely somewhere (I've even forgotten now) just over a year and half ago and loved how awesome this was. Indeed, beating out counterpart Vance Joy, this Aussie folk track is something to behold. Really recommend checking out if you haven't already!

#106: WE'LL BE COMING BACK - Calvin Harris (feat. Example) - (NEW)

(#25 of 2010-2014)
(#5 of 2012)

With a very memorable record-breaking 50-1 leap on my personal chart, there is no question that this is my favourite Calvin track. Example is great, production is great and it is very fun uplifting vibe throughout. What's not to love?

#105: FIREFLIES - Owl City - (Previously #91)

(#30 of '00s)
(#5 of 2009)

Still a really nice song after all these years. I love the uniqueness of this track and it was so great it could become a hit. Wishing Owl City all the best.

#104: VIOLET HILL - Coldplay - (Previously #247)

(#29 of '00s)
(#5 of 2008)

(#9 Coldplay)
This has grown so well. I ignored this a lot because of Viva La Vida but it's actually so good on it's own right and I wish I gave it a much bigger chance. Thankfully, I can give this justice with another improved BOAT position! This could even crack the top 100 in a few months, who knows?

#103: YESTERDAY ONCE MORE - The Carpenters - (Previously #99)

(#5 of '70s)

Parent pop at its best. This has still aged held up well since 2010 despite missing a top 100 position!

#102: LITTLE LIES - Fleetwood Mac - (Previously #97)

(#21 of '80s)
(#4 of 1987)

(#2 Fleetwood Mac)
Such a classic from Fleetwood Mac. I was really sad not to give this a top 100 spot. They have another song to go though! Spoiler: it's very high too!

#101: I'M LIKE A BIRD - Nelly Furtado - (NEW)

(#28 of '00s)
(#4 of 2000)

(#2 Nelly Furtado)
Unlucky #101 goes to an unlikely artist you'll see on this list, but she's here! This track from Nelly is absolutely lovely and sweet. I really wish pop was simple and innocent like this because that's all you need for a good song really. Ah well, Nelly will take consolation that she has another track yet to come. She should be pleased she has 2 songs in! Congratulations!

Thanks to all for tuning in so far! We will continue the countdown on Sunday 7pm for #100-#51 and Monday 7pm for the top 50! Sorry for the late notice, I hope you can all tune in and listen! It'll be fun!

A reminder that the BOAT continues tonight at 7pm (possibly a bit later if all doesn't go to plan) with the top 100! We'll be counting down to #51. I have already expressed multiple times at how excited I am to beoadcast this section in particular; it is by far the most diverse section and contains the widest variety of greatest hits many have come to know and love. Ranging from plenty of '90s pop, '80s nostalgia, '00s classics to some of my personal favourites from 2015, tonight will be the huge party before we knuckle down on the serious end of the countdown. Hope to see you there!
I'll bring the chips.
Appearances I have liked so far as a surprise or forgotten song, rather than just one of my favourites...
250 Take Care - Not sure how well you liked this, so I'm glad it just snuck in.
246 Fader - a nice favourite. It's my 4th favourite, but my Top 4 are all fairly close in popularity for me.
237 Vision Of Love - nice to see the one that started it all for Mariah right up there as your 2nd favourite.
235 Feel So Close - how nice it would be to see the next generation regard this as a classic : )
231 Disease - one of their best for sure.
225 Lay It All On Me - growing on me well, but wow! in the BOAT already.
221 Express Yourself - a surprise appearance, but all good.
218 Wisemen - nice to see this still hanging around in the new list and has actually gained ground.
214 Hazard - a haunting kind of track but a great one.
208 I Wanna Dance With Somebody - another surprise appearance. Probably my favourite pop track from Whitney.
200 Stayin' Alive - not my favourite of theirs, but I'm glad to see the guys make the list.
198 Another Day In Paradise - a former personal #1 charter for me. So of course I endorse this appearance : )
190 If I Lose Myself - I agree the original is better
189 If I Could - great to see this vintage ballad appear
184 Makes Me Wonder - wow, their highest. It's about 4* for me but I notice the reviews vary greatly for this one.
183 Summer Of '69 - I suppose this was likely to be in the list. But it has fallen away :/
181 Language - thanks for reminding me that this is actually quite good.
177 Pompeii - nice new entry
175 Treasure - an unexpected favourite
170 Pictures Of You - heard this on the radio in the last week. It still sounds good.
167 Frozen - is awesome : )
165 Heaven - ditto, see comment at 183
160 Take A Bow - wow, Rihanna's highest.
157 Funkytown - I wasn't aware just how BIG this was for a long time. #1 in well over two dozen countries apparently
155 Like A Prayer - would love to know who the obscure artist could have been that sang this song Or did you have a certain artist in mind as who it could have been? I just remember the big debut at #3 on Rage back in its day.
153 Hero - great ballad, only slightly tarnished by me hearing a guy try to sing it with much passion in Maccas early one morning after what I suspect was a big night on the town
More comments later.
From the 110-101 section I'm kind of surprised but glad at how much you like Complicated, Violet Hill I didn't expect this high either, I'm the exact opposite to you as I liked it slightly more over Viva La Vida at the time but now days it's far behind it, still cool though and especially thrilled that So Beautiful has made it this high, his best for me easily.
#100: I’M ON FIRE – Bruce Springsteen- (Previously #124)

(#20 of '80s)
(#4 of 1985)

(#2 Bruce Springsteen)
Always loved a bit of Brucey, but this one has always been a big personal favourite. I just love the soothing, calming vibe to it. Those sort of things have always resonated with me (as we’ll probably see for the rest of the top 100).

#99: YOU GET WHAT YOU GIVE – New Radicals - (Previously #126)

(#16 of '90s)
(#5 of 1998)

So much fun! With good lyrics too! One of those tracks that have always stuck around and I’ve enjoyed every time I’ve heard it.

#98: WALKING ON SUNSHINE – Katrina & The Waves - (Previously #156)

(#19 of '80s)
(#3 of 1985)

Continuing on the fun spectrum, this one is even more so! I actually prefer the Abandon cover to this which gives it a bit more of a rockier edge, but I just merged all the covers I’ve heard and liked of this (and let’s be honest, there’s so many) into the one original entry.

#97: OPPORTUNITY – Pete Murray - (Previously #76)

(#30 of ‘00s)
(#5 of 2006)

(#1 Pete Murray)
This is my favourite Pete Murray song. I’ve always liked his output and he has a really nice back catalogue but this one always stood out to me as one of his best. So Beautiful, only 12 places below isn’t too far behind either! This one has really great lyrics and a good melody to back it up.

#96: FAST CAR – Tracy Chapman - (Previously #100)

(#18 of '80s)
(#2 of 1988)

This is another brilliant track and another gem that has stood the test of time. While I enjoy the current remakes on the charts this is far superior. The songwriting is fascinating and really conveys a fascinating story with Tracy’s unique voice.

#95: RUMOUR MILL – Rudimental (feat. Anne-Marie & Will Heard) - NEW)

(#6 of 2015)

Moving on to a 2015 track, I saw this track on Rage while on holiday and I thought it was a really cool retro track thanks to the old school vibe on the video. How wrong was I to find out it was Rudimental’s latest single! Anyhow, this is an excellent performance by both singers and it has become my favourite track from Rudimental.

#94: YOU WERE RIGHT - RÜFÜS - (NEW)

(#5 of 2015)

(#3 RÜFÜS)
Immediately following the #6 of 2015 we come across to the #5 song of the year. You Were Right has been one of my most loved tracks of the whole year (as evident by its top 100 placing), but I just happen to love 4 songs even more. This is an excellent dance track and was an excellent comeback single as well as lead single for their next album, which I am very excited for. 2015 was also marked by its memorable rebound to #1 after 20 weeks into the chart after I had seen them live.

#93: WONDERWALL - Oasis - (Previously #107)

(#15 of '90s)
(#2 of 1996)

With fond memories of having to sing this in primary school, this classic track will forever be ingrained into my memory. Thankfully, despite initially rejecting it because of aforementioned experienced, I have really warmed to it since.

#92: I WANT IT THAT WAY – Backstreet Boys - (Previously #82)

(#14 of '90s)
(#3 of 1999)

A super ‘90s classic, I really love this track regardless of the associated banter that gets thrown around with this act. It stands up very well on its own and it is a super fun pop track.

#91: HALF OF MY HEART – John Mayer (feat. Taylor Swift) - (NEW)

(#24 of 2010-2015)
(#3 of 2010)

(#2 John Mayer)
An excellent single from John Mayer’s most successful era on my charts. A shame it didn’t become a hit but at least the lead single of the album did! More of that later….
#90: YOU’RE THE VOICE – John Farnham- (Previously #29)

(#17 of '80s)
(#3 of 1986)

(#2 John Farnham)
I was quite sick of this following my 2010 BOAT but some recent exposure has helped me love it again. It is just so epic and I love the bagpipes.

#89: BLAME IT ON THE BOOGIE – The Jacksons - (NEW)

(#4 of pre-'70s)
Here is another super great song that I’ve always known since my childhood. Unfortunately it too me until after my 2010 BOAT posting to actually realise what the song was. I’ve rediscovered it since then and I’ve come to love it as one of my favourite ‘70s hits and easily my favourite from MJ I would have to say.

#88: SPEED OF SOUND – Coldplay - (Previously #60)

(#29 of ‘00s)
(#1 of 2005)

88ColdplaySpeed of Sound2005
149Shannon NollLift2005

(#8 Coldplay)
An undoubtedly massive artist for me, Coldplay score 8 songs in the top 100! A very impressive feat and kicking it all off is the lead single to X&Y. The opening riff has always stuck with me and I find it very memorable. The rest of the classic Coldplay that many of us have come to learn and love.

#87: BREAKWAY – Kelly Clarkson - (Previously #53)

(#28 of ‘00s)
(#2 of 2004)

The lone Kelly Clarkson song of the list, this is easily my favourite of hers and one of the best female ballads ever to date. With excellent lyrics and vocals, this is still a very strong song today.

#86: DESERT NIGHT – RÜFÜS - (NEW)

(#23 of 2010-2015)
(#2 of 2013)

(#2 RÜFÜS)
A very special dance song that would not have been here had I not seen them in concert. I’ve detailed most of my thoughts of this in my review, but after multiple album plays this has stood head and shoulders above the rest as my favourite track from Atlas.

#85: DECEMBER, 1963 – The Four Seasons - (Previously #48)

(#3 of pre-'70s)

This is the original I’m talking here…not that I think there’s much difference with the remix? I don’t know what the differences are…(maybe I should familiarise myself with that given this is top 100 here!). I had to see the drop of this track, because I still really love this song. Classic vibes with a great uplifting tune this has always been a personal favourite and it will definitely continue to be.

#84: WALKING ON A DREAM – Empire of the Sun - (NEW)

(#27 of ‘00s)
(#4 of 2008)

A little surprising that this did not appear in my 2010 BOAT, but even then I wasn’t too familiar with it and I hadn’t come to love it like I do now. Once again, the calming synths and the general vibe really resonates with me, and despite hardly knowing the lyrics the vocals are very effecting in accentuating that. Well done Empire of the Sun! Fabulous effort.

#83: DON’T STOP MOVIN’ – S Club 7 - (Previously #336)

(#26 of ‘00s)
(#3 of 2001)

So. Much. Fun! Like many my age, I vividly recall dancing to this in primary school and while I hated this track initially because of that experience, I have come full circle around it and really love it for what it is. This is also their best track by far.

#82: RATHER BE – Clean Bandit (feat. Jess Glynne) - (NEW)

(#23 of 2010-2015)
(#5 of 2014)

A very popular hit on this site, I recall Hijinx recommending this to me in in early January 2014 and I grew to love it very quickly. A very strong dance-pop track with great production and Jess Glynne’s contribution is breathtaking.

#81: EVERY TIME YOU CRY – John Farnham & Human Nature - (NEW)

(#13 of '90s)
(#1 of 1997)

81John Farnham & Human NatureEverytime You Cry1997

(#1 John Farnham)
This song is super cheesy for sure, but I love the boyband nature of it. I heard this a lot when I worked in a supermarket in the summer of 2014 and that’s when I was able to finally put a finger on this song that I had known for a long time! Anyway, this is super cheesy fun and I really can’t describe it any better than that.

#80: I KNEW I LOVED YOU – Savage Garden- (Previously #56)

(#12 of '90s)
(#2 of 1999)

(#3 Savage Garden)
Parent pop rules once again. I’ve detailed many times before how both my parents love Savage Garden and I’ve had both of their CDs played in the car for most of my childhood. This was one of the ballads that really ended up standing out at the end and I still enjoy it to this day. 2 more to go for Savage Garden!

#79: HOW WILL I KNOW – Whitney Houston - (NEW)

(#16 of '80s)
(#2 of 1985)
The top Whitney song of my countdown! I don’t quite recall when I rediscovered this after 2010 but it certainly became a hit for me with the upbeat vibe and the awesome ‘80s production, complimented by (of course) Whitney’s awesome voice.

#78: YOU FOUND ME – The Fray - (Previously #63)

(#25 of ‘00s)
(#4 of 2009)

(#3 The Fray)
An excellent rock ballad from The Fray that was the first song I loved since I started listening to the radio in 2009. It is still just as good today!

#77: JULIANNE – Roy English- (NEW)

(#4 of 2015)

Coming into some recent hits on my chart, Julianne really stuck with me since I heard Roy English’s awesome voice on Alesso’s track “Cool,” which appeared a little earlier. The ‘80s-esque production brings a really strong sense of nostalgia and that really compliments Roy’s voice. Overall, this was a fantastic indie-pop release and I was really glad to discover and love it during 2015.

#76: AIN’T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell - (NEW)

(#2 of pre-’70s)

One of my favourite gospel songs that I have come to love thanks to Sister Act! Watching that movie in primary school has given me very fond memories of the song and I wish I’ve heard a lot more gospel since then. A huge omission in my 2010 BOAT that is now remedied here.

#75: TONGUE TIED JULY – Michael Brun (feat. Roy English) - (NEW)

(#3 of 2015)

Coming into more recent obscure anton stuff, I naturally found this thank to the Roy English association but Michael Brun, a Haitian artist was completely new to me. Continuing with most things Roy English, this has a very great nostalgia feel thanks to the awesome production by Brun. I have come to learn that this is a bit left-field for Brun, who tends to stick to more standard ‘house’ things so he may end up being a one hit wonder for me!

#74: SOMETHING SO STRONG – Crowded House - (Previously #199

(#15 of '80s)
(#3 of 1987)

(#4 Crowded House)
Since becoming much more familiar with Crowded House when I played them on Nate’s game of Artist Showdown, I have really come to love this. The first of 4 songs from Crowded House, who have once again scored very well on this list.

#73: WITH OR WITHOUT YOU – U2 - (Previously #17)

(#14 of '80s)
(#2 of 1987)

(#1 U2)

73U2With or Without You1987
122U2I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For1987
143U2Pride (In The Name Of Love)1984

Well it was quite obvious this was my favourite U2 track as I’m such a sucker for their super-power-ballads and this is no exception. Great vocals and lyrics once again come with this one, along with many fond memories of hearing this on the radio.

#72: LEVELS – Avicii - (NEW)

(#22 of 2010-2015)
(#10 of 2011)

(#1 Avicii)

72AviciiLevels2011
135AviciiWake Me Up2013
151AviciiFade Into Darkness2011

Brilliant producing by Avicii easily makes this my favourite song from him. With no distracting vocals or any rubbish that we’ve seen with many recent dance tracks, this simply shines just because of its simplicity and effectiveness. Congratulations on 3 entries on the list Avicii!

#71: MAGIC – Coldplay - (NEW)

(#21 of 2010-2015)
(#4 of 2014)

(#7 Coldplay)
The lead single to “Ghost Stories,” the sheer minimalism of this compared to Coldplay’s previous album made this suddenly different from them, when it wasn’t really…(I think?). Either way, Magic was a big standout from a not so great album and it managed to stay at #1 on my personal charts for 7 weeks!

Glad to see Oppurtunity, I Want It That Way, You're The Voice, Speed Of Sound, Breakaway, Rather Be, You Found Me and With Or Without You make the Top 100 so far.
#70: CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT – Foster The People - (NEW)

(#20 of 2010-2015)
(#9 of 2011)

(#2 Foster the People)
The follow up to one of my mega-hits “Pumped Up Kicks,” Call It What You Want manage to separate itself from the former’s shadow due its own quirkiness. A very subtle but effective indie track to add to Foster the People’s very unique catalogue so far.

#69: SAY IT RIGHT – Nelly Furtado - (Previously #163)

(#24 of '00s)
(#4 of 2006)

(#1 Nelly Furtado)
Savour this moment pop fans because you’ll rarely find me saying this for any female artist, but I f**king love this. A very classy pop effort from Nelly together with brilliant production from Timbaland really helps make this track shine and it is easily my favourite Nelly Furtado track. Given how I abhor most of her other stuff this is a rare gem and I’m proud to have this song in my top 100.

#68: SHADOW OF THE DAY – U2 - (Previously #41)

(#23 of ‘00s)
(#5 of 2007)

(#1 Linkin Park)

68Linkin ParkShadow of the Day2007
206Linkin ParkNew Divide2009
164Linkin ParkBurning In The Skies2011
247Linkin ParkWhat I've Done2007

Only 5 spots above its regularly compared rock-ballad, Shadow of the Day takes my #1 Linkin Park track. (It probably should be the other way round now that I think about it…) Chester’s vocals with the mellow nature once again resonates with me and having heard this a lot on radio over the past 8 years, this is another track that has personally stuck with me. Congratulations Linkin Park on 4 songs on the list!

#67: LIFE IN TECHNICOLOR II – Coldplay- (Previously #147)

(#22 of ‘00s)
(#3 of 2009)

(#6 Coldplay)
Another Coldplay track with another very memorable riff that is ingrained in my memory for eternity. Another favourite from Coldplay, despite being the #6 track from them lol.

#66: TAKE ME OVER – Peking Duk (feat. SAFIA) - (NEW)

(#19 of 2010-2015)
(#3 of 2014)

Huge banger right here. After my SAFIA obsession developed this was released soon after and it was instant love. A massive hit on my charts, I was so pleased to see this reach top 5 of the JJJ Hottest 100 in 2014.

#65: COLLECTING SUNLIGHT – Andreas Moe - (NEW)

(#18 of 2010-2015)
(#4 of 2012)

133Andreas MoeThis Year2013
142John de SohnLong Time (feat. Andreas Moe)2012
151AviciiFade Into Darkness2011

A very unique electro-indie-folk-pop ballad from Swedish singer-songwriter Andreas Moe! This is his highest entry, and still unfortunately stuck 2nd fiddle behind Don’t You Worry Child.

#64: CRASH AND BURN – Savage Garden - (Previously #85)

(#21 of ‘00s)
(#3 of 2000)

(#2 Savage Garden)
I guess you could call this failed inspirational, with all those lyrics and all…but that doesn’t mean I can’t love it! Another great Savage Garden song that has resonated with me since my young days.

#63: KING – Years & Years - (NEW)

(#2 of 2015)

Such an awesome modern masterpiece. Another recommendation from Hijinx, I was into this straight away in January 2015 and I’ve never looked back. One of the most popular recent Aus-Charts songs and deservedly so. Beautiful synths, soaring vocals and a really uplifting chorus makes this a huge winner and my #2 of 2015!

#62: HIGH – Lighthouse Family - (Previously #16)

(#11 of '90s)

Simply put, a great ‘90s ballad that has definitely stood the test of time. Heaps of love for this song on Aus Charts!

#61: NEVER GONNA GIVE YOU UP – Rick Astley - (NEW)

(#13 of ‘80s)
(#1 of 1987)

Despite all the hating this gets, I just bloody love it. So much fun! Thankfully I missed the Rick rolling era so I have never had any bad qualms about this.

Awesome Aussie rock track from Evermore. A big ‘00s classic for me!

#59: FEEDING LINE – Boy & Bear - (NEW)

(#17 of 2010-2015)
(#8 of 2011)

(#1 Boy & Bear)
I still have many fond memories of seeing Boy & Bear clean up the ARIA Awards, having a very vague idea of who they were and then deciding to check them out and finding out how awesome this was! While their newer output is sadly not as good, Feeding Line in particular has stayed with me for the last 5 years.

Nothing much to say for this one except it’s an awesome ‘90s pop track that Bryan Adams happened to have been involved in Good fun as always.

#57: READY TO GO (GET ME OUT OF MY MIND) – Panic! At the Disco - (NEW)

(#16 of 2010-2015)
(#7 of 2011)

Everyone was getting around The Ballad of Mona Lisa, but I was around this one instead. Panic! I have never been much a fan of, so I was really glad to have really liked this one from them. Sadly they’re going to be another massive OHW of my charts.

Another great ballad from Evermore. A song I always heard in primary school and is still great today! Hopefully Evermore can recapture their best form but I doubt it.

#55: HANGING BY A MOMENT – Lifehouse - (Previously =#11

Unfortunately loses its tie with Drops of Jupiter, this is still an excellent ‘00s rock song with a really pumping chorus.

(#5 Coldplay)
A massive highlight from Mylo Xyloto, I was so glad this was a singer. Very happy Coldplay is a rare sight, but in this one they pull it off well. This is simply a huge joy to listen to.

#53: ARCADIA – The Kite String Tangle - (NEW)

(#14 of 2010-2015)
(#2 of 2014)

How awesome new music is done! I love the emotion behind this one and the production compliments this well. I hope the Kite String Tangle can replicate this one day because this is my favourite of his by a long shot, although the whole EP this came from is all quite good.

Man, I don’t know where to start on this one. I’ll hopefully get around to a very fleshed out review of this soon but man, I love this. Hearing it first live, and then being a huge part of my emotional summers, songs like these mean a lot to me. Still #1 on my personal charts at the moment I, however, couldn’t bear to put a 3-month old song in the top 50, so #51 will do. Congratulations RUFUS and best wishes for what I’m sure will be a huge career.

That's all I'll post for today. We're up to the top 20 now if you want to follow along in the AC chat or in the broadcast link I posted. I will post the top 50 tomorrow or in coming days
#50: THE WAY IT IS – Bruce Hornsby & The Range - (NEW)

(#12 of ‘80s)
(#2 of 1986)

A huge omission from my 2010 list, the piano in this makes absolutely everything. I greatly admire his improvising skills and the solo at the end is breathtaking. A very memorable track for me!

#49: A THOUSAND MILES – Vanessa Carlton - (Previously #150)

(#17 of ‘00s)
(#2 of 2002)

Speaking of memorable piano riffs, "A Thousand Miles" jumps 101 spots up the list from last time! It is a very endearing pop track to be honest, with very honest and heartfelt songwriting and did I mention how cool the piano is? One of my favourite pop tracks of all time.

#48: OVER MY HEAD (CABLE CAR) – The Fray - (Previously #65)

(#16 of ‘00s)
(#2 of 2006)

(#2 The Fray)
Very strong debut from The Fray which has thankfully stood up very well in time because it is just all round so solid (and a little bit more upbeat from them too!). I'm very proud to have this in my top 50 songs, although it is not my #1 Fray song!

#47: WALKING IN MEMPHIS – Marc Cohn - (Previously #49)

(#8 of '90s)
(#2 of 1991)

Oh yeah did I mention the piano already? Aside from that, I especially love the storytelling in this and Marc sings this with great heart. Classic track for sure.

#46: THE VELDT – deadmau5 (feat. Chris James) - (NEW)

(#12 of 2010-2015)
(#3 of 2012)

It's just another EDM thing right? Well this helped me emotionally especially during 2012 (before DYWC came out) and it also doubled as awesome study music! I will always be indebted to this song for those reasons.

This amazing ballad from Crowded House unfortunately suffers a large(?) - well that depends on your perspective - drop and is the first former top 10 casualty. That doesn't mean I still don't love it, I just happen to love 44 songs more and #8 was probably a bit too high in retrospective.

#44: SECOND CHANCE – Shinedown - (Previously #40)

(#15 of ‘00s)
(#2 of 2009)

The "I just saw Haley's comet" and "TELL MY MOTHER, TELL MY FATHER" song is still here, and still very high. One of the first songs I loved when I first began listening to hit radio in 2009, I still have many fond memories of that time and this song is still as good as ever.

#43: ORINOCO FLOW – Enya - (Previously #50)

(#10 of ‘80s)
(#2 of 1989)

Going through classic after classic, I love this track by Enya. So worldly, very beautiful and listening to this takes my imagination to all sorts of places. Beautiful and breathtaking production and songwriting.

#38: LIFE IS A ROLLERCOASTER – Ronan Keating - (Previously #34)

(#1 Ronan Keating)

38Ronan KeatingLife is A Rollercoaster 2000

The nostalgia is very strong in this one, as hearing this a lot in my childhood has made me become really fond of it. It's not just that though, the contemplative, almost philosophical nature of the lyrics and how the songwriting accentuates this just exudes this nostalgic sense that I will always cherish.

(#3 Coldplay)
Up over 200 spots, "The Scientist" experiences a huge jump from what I used to think of it. In 2010, I acknowledged that this was one of Coldplay's most celebrated tracks for sure, but I didn't quite understand why that was the case for me personally. Well since then, I have definitely come to know this track for what it is: the songwriting, lyrics and most of all, the magnificent storytelling which, in my opinion, their greatest strength and the reason why they have been so successful.

#36: CHANGE THE WORLD – Eric Clapton - (NEW)

(#1 of 1996)

36Eric ClaptonChange The World 1996

I just can't get enough of my singer-songwriters, even if they were successful way before I was born. This is a very lovely acoustic track from Clapton that I discovered through my parents and it has become one of my favourite since.

#35: TIME AFTER TIME – Cyndi Lauper - (Previously #33)

(#9 of ‘80s)
(#4 of 1984)

This is a really wonderful ballad from Cyndi and I love the chorus especially. Very memorable melodies and lyrics makes this an instant winner.

#34: DANCING IN THE DARK – Bruce Springsteen - (Previously #68)

(#8 of ‘80s)
(#3 of 1984)

(#1 Bruce Springsteen)
I love Bruce Springsteen, but he in turn has to thank the similarly influenced "The War on Drugs" for helping me rediscover my love for him. This is such a good one for him, from the lyrics, to the production, vocals and just the overall strength of the song. Even the saxophone solo outtro is a classic!

Separated from its seemingly-forever-tie with Lifehouse, Drops of Jupiter has finally edged out as my favourite 2001 track. I shouldn't need to say what makes this great, but this just managed to age a bit better than Hanging By A Moment but it hasn't been the perfect ride for it as it has tripled its position since 2010.

#32: THANK YOU – Dido - (Previously #39)

Admittedly, "Stan" and "Lose Yourself" just weren't around when I was growing up (understandable since AC radio probably steered clear of Eminem) but this track certainly got a lot of airplay and I loved it from day dot. Don't get me wrong, both Eminem tracks are excellent and deserve huge credit and all the commercial success they had, but it is rather unfortunate that neither track really had any personal impact or influence in my life to date. The chorus of this song as stuck in my memory ever since childhood and it was very gratifying once I rediscovered the track in 2010.

#31: TAKE ON ME – a-ha - (NEW)

(#7 of ‘80s)
(#2 of 1984)

Pure awesomeness is this. I disgustingly completely forgot about this track in 2010, and even more shameful in the fact that it would have placed as high as it has now. This has everything I love from the '80s (except that it's a ballad). Fantastic uptempo production, super catch and fun chorus and overall, just a brilliant track that I feel privileged to have loved.

Since my last post the highlights include Shadow Of The Day!!, Life In Technicolor 2, Crash And Burn, High, Running!!!, Light Surrounding You, Hanging By A Moment!, Charlie Brown, A Thousand Miles!!!, Better Be Home Soon, Stop And Stare!, ETIAW, It's Too Late!, The Scientist!!, Drops Of Jupiter and Thank You.

#29: SMALL BUMP – Ed Sheeran - (NEW)

(#9 of 2010-2015)
(#4 of 2011)

(#2 Ed Sheeran)

I have very recently come to the conclusion that the most relatable and most successful artists are often ones that con convey stories the most effectively. And if it's one for compelling storytelling, Ed Sheeran nails it effortlessly as demonstrated in this song here (and in his 1 remaining song left)! This song is absolutely beautiful and the gentle thumping beat with the guitar hook had me instantly, well, hooked.

#28: HEARTBREAK WARFARE – John Mayer - (Previously #137)

(#8 of 2010-2015)
(#3 of 2010)

(#1 John Mayer)

A breathtaking ballad, this was another beautiful track that had me hooked straight away when I first heard it in early 2010. Something about the production and songwriting really helps convey the sorrowness, loneliness and pain of the fallout of this relationship. We don't have enough songs that do this job well enough.

The 2nd of 3 songs that manage to exactly maintain their position on this list is my favourite track from Savage Garden. Admittedly, this is very far from their most creative and you could argue that the production is horribly '90s and outdated, but that is probably why I love this the most. It is just so '90s pop and I really love the chorus. From my childhood listening days, this one brings me the most joy from their catalogue.

#26: APOLOGIZE – Timbaland presents OneRepublic - (Previously #20)

Just missing out on the top 25 is one of the most ultimate classics of the '00s. Kickstarting what would be a rather successful career for OneRepublic, the songwriting here is very on-point and Timbaland brings that to a whole another level. Congratulations to both of these artists for getting 2 songs in the top 100!

The 2nd top 10 casualty, dropping from #4 to a very, very low #25 is another classic from '00s brought to you from Snow Patrol. Sure it was overplayed to death on radio until recent times, but that was how I ended up being familiar with it and I ended up loving because it's great ballad with very heartfelt lyrics.

#24: PYRO – Kings of Leon - (Previously #151)

(#7 of 2010-2015)
(#2 of 2010)

(#3 Kings of Leon)
'Radioactive' was a solid track, but this one absolutely took the cake as soon as I heard it in late 2010. I love the 12/8 feel which seemed unique at the time and I love how effective the guitar riff is when it changes and moves up in pitch in the 2nd half of the chorus. Kings of Leon still have 2 to go!

#23: THE MAN WHO CAN'T BE MOVED – The Script - (Previously #30)

(#6 of '00s)
(#3 of 2008)

After having an amazing hey-day with The Script from 2008 to around 2011, along comes Hall of Fame and everything has since gone downhill. Care factor for this artist has prety much reached 0 and I have been continually unimpressed by any music they have released (and this has flowed back to songs of theirs I have once loved as well). We, however, have a survivor with this! The Man Who Can't Be Moved has always been my favourite track from The Script and my opinion of this has thankfully remained unchanged. Another great '00s ballad here with lyrics that I really like.

(#1 The War on Drugs)

Ah, it's the song that has made huge waves around Aus-Charts. While admittedly Hijinx and irelander and probably others charted it way before I did, I first discovered it after hearing it randomly on JJJ this time last year. Since then, I've been privileged to be a part of the Red Eyes explosion around this site. From the get go, I loved many aspects of this; from the very nostalgic riffs, the pulsating but subtle emerging, the undeniable '80s-Bruce-Springsteen influence, this song (along with Roy English) spearheaded an '80s-pop-revival on my charts in 2015 and I have never looked back. The other single from the album, Under The Pressure appeared earlier and the album has already become one of my personal favourites of all time.

The most iconic riff of all time increases its position this time to be just shy from the top 20!
I find this song to be much more than that though. Yes, the piano riff itself is iconic and forms a very strong basis of it, but the minimalistic nature of its repetition, and how such a nostalgic atmosphere is created from it leaves me impressed, dreaming and wanting each listen. This is Coldplay at one of their many high points of their career.
#20: WHAT CAN I DO – The Corrs - (Previously #22)

(#4 of '90s)
(#2 of 1998)

A very lovely ballad from The Corrs commences my top 20 songs of all time. I find this to be a very mature pop effort and once again, I have many memories of hearing this a lot when I was young. The songwriting is very lovely too. Mind you, this is the original I'm talking about and not the remix!

Ah, another classic Anton tune here. The lyrics, vocals, songwriting - I really think I sound like a broken record here but The Fray really could do no wrong in this part of their career. It's been sad to see them taper off since but it was inevitable. This emotional song has been with me for a huge part of my life and I couldn't imagine my life without it.

Another huge personal favourite, "Manhattan" has always been one of my favourite Kings of Leon tracks ever. Sure, I also heard this a ton in 2009 which helped me become very familiar with it but in this very special case, it is just the amazing songwriting that just strikes a chord. From the opening and closing guitar riffs, to Caleb's passionate vocals, I feel I could truly be in New York when I hear this song, sitting alone in an apartment, looking at night, contemplating the world. Well, maybe it's more the thrills of being with someone at night and the experience of sharing cherished memories... I'm going on a huge tangent and I'm not really making sense to even myself right now but that's the point. It's that I can't explain how I feel when I hear this song but I do understand that this song takes my imagination to wild and magical places. Music is a wonderful thing.

Iconic, memorable, classic...I've run out of accolades to describe these songs but surely these are the songs that deserve it most? No? From the opening brass to the steel drum(? I still don't know what that instrument is!) this instantly screams classic and I just happen to agree with that.

'90s rock ballad at its finest. When I listened to this song for this countdown I realised how it was even better since the last time I heard it and I couldn't bear keeping it out of the top 20. As far as what makes this great, it's the same as how I love most of my ballads: the lyrics and vocals, to the awesome backing instrumental which uses the strings very effective. The chorus is one of the highlights of my listening journey and I am forever thankful for radio for never giving up on this song which helped me become familiar with it.

#14: DREAMS – Fleetwood Mac - (NEW)

(#1 of pre-'70s)

An absolutely amazing song that I ashamedly couldn't identify when I made my 2010 list (it took me several years later to finally re-discover this song. Justifiable though, that title is not mentioned in the chorus!). I have loved this song all my life and the chorus is moment that I would consider one of the greatest of all time. From the very contemplative and reflective lyrics to the awesome harmonies in the chorus, this track is a sure winner and I'm very honoured to give this song a very high placing!

#13: THE A TEAM – Ed Sheeran - (NEW)

(#5 of 2010-2015)
(#2 of 2011)

(#1 Ed Sheeran)

Ah, the king of singer-songwriters, Ed Sheeran finally appears with his top track 'The A Team' at #13. Seeing this rise up the charts here I checked him out on Youtube and I was obsessed. Such meaningful songwriting and heartfelt singing, it was a diamond in the rough of the charts back then and thankfully Ed has managed to triumph in every consequent release.

#12: DRIVE – The Cars - (Previously #6)

The '80s power ballad comes back around and this one is another diamond. I love the synth production especially with this one and this, once again, is all round very solid and memorable!

#11: THE LIVING YEARS – Mike + The Mechanics - (Previously #13)

Our last song before entering the top 10 is thankfully not a tie with another song! This track...how does one describe it? Aside from the (yes, again) production and all that, those lyrics and vocals. Wow. Every aspect of this is amazing and it is always an emotional journey listening through this.
#10: CLAIR DE LUNE – Flight Facilities (feat. Christine Hoberg) - (NEW)

(#4 of 2010-2014)

An absolute masterpiece.

With an awesome bass riff like that, you could almost get away with anything. And they kind of do with this song. Blah blah, we're all aware of the lyrics, but them aside and you have a classic '80s track that I love to bits.

Even to this day those lyrics have so much significance. It's so refreshing to have that in song, and in a very good one too. I dedicated this song to the 2015 NSW State Election result (yes I follow politics and it's really sad).

Man I loved this so much back in 2009/2010 it was not funny. While it evidently has lost just a tiny bit of its shine I don't think anyone could have done stadium-rock any better. The lyrics, general sound all hit home and it was everything I wanted at the time.

Love it or hate it...I guess most of you will be satisfied with the position of this song! As I have stated in many reviews, I am a hugely emotion person. While I certainly appreciate a lot of music (a lot more than you think!) and I always give credit where credit is due, my enjoyment of music is always based on personal experience and how it affects me emotionally. This was the ultimate love song for me a few years ago and in many ways it still is. Being a sucker for any strong use of piano I loved (and still do) this particular combination with Bryan Adams and to me, it is a sure winner.

In many ways, this was the song that became the catalyst for the entire "indie-alternative" shift that my charts underwent at that time. Moving on from simple Adult Contemporary to bands that were a lot more forward thinking and innovative certainly fancied my taste and while I did chart a lot of "indie" tracks earlier (e.g. Sparkadia, Gyroscope and others in 2010) I would pin point it to the huge success of this song. The story is not unfamiliar, I saw this hanging around the US iTunes charts for a long time and decided to check it out, only to instantly discover it. Tracks with messages are akin to Foster the People and are a huge part of what they are and the message in this one was one that resonated with me, in many ways than I thought it would.

I don't know about you, but the above Coldplay kinda says it all doesn't it? For whatever flack they get, I have loved everything they have put out so far and for good reason. Their music really resonate me, I relate to their stories very well, their melodies are absolutely beautiful, they built themselves a very diverse career despite the odds but sitting above it all is this amazing track. In my opinion, this is their most creative piece by far and in every department too. From the very unique lyrical themes to the memorable opening strings. Yet somehow, this is still all totally Coldplay. It's quite clear they will never reach these heights again, but that doesn't mean we can't still appreciate the heights they reached. Congratulations Coldplay for a fantastic career, hopefully I get to see you guys live at least once!

Over 600 plays recorded on last.fm (and the next song is barely over 400)...and that's of the 7 minute version! That says it all doesn't it? When I asked what song could potentially be my #1 favourite song of all time, this just had to be it. Nothing else felt like an ultimate chart topper. Yes, I'm basically paired with this song for the rest of my life and I did think of other alternatives but none of them seemed fitting. 'Don't You Worry Child' came out in a very stressful period of my life and it played a big part in helping me get through that period. Ever since then, the love and the energy has (well not yet at least) not waned a single bit and I have loved this the same as I have since day 1. I could not be more satisfied with calling this my #1 favourite song of all time and possibly for the rest of time and I'm very glad I have had such a song be a part of my life so far.

Well that's it folks! Thank you all for tuning in during the broadcasts and for commenting and following along. It means a lot! I don't have any BOAT updates planned soon...just kidding. This list is extremely accurate compared to when I finished my 2010 BOAT. I eagerly await for all the new music to come and maybe in another 5 years we'll see how everything stacks up! Goodnight to you all

For the Top 30 the highlights are Love Is All Around, The Animal Song, Apologize, Chasing Cars!!, Clocks, Africa, Iris!!!, Dreams (My #1 70s Tune too if you count Another Brick In The Wall 2 as 1980), Clair De Lune!!! (Well done you really are the biggest fan of this between the 2 of us, I would have it Top 50 All Time at best but not Top 10), Plans, Everything I Do!! and Viva La Vida!!!, I agree with your commentary for it even though it's only my 3rd fav Coldplay.

An excellent BOAT all round.
