Calvin Harris lands his first No.1 on the ARIA Singles chart this week as his latest track “How Deep is Your Love” featuring Disciples is up one place to take over the chart summit.

“How Deep is Your Love” becomes the 1041st No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2015) and the 476th for ARIA (1983 to 2015), plus the 111th for the Columbia label and their second this year after “Bills” by LunchMoney Lewis hit the top back in March. This is the third No.1 song with ‘How’ in its title, the last being “How Bizarre” by OMC (April 1996), the third ‘Deep’, the 21st ‘Your’ and the 78th with ‘Love’ within the title to make it to No.1 in Australia, whilst of the four previously charted songs entitled ‘How Deep is Your Love’, the Bee Gees track which peaked at No.3 in early February 1978 was the previously highest charting song with such a title.

This new number one becomes Calvin’s first chart-topping single in Australia, as he previously peaked at No.2 with two tracks, “We Found Love” with Rihanna which spent five weeks at two during October and November of 2011 and the following year in October, 2012 he debuted and peaked at No.2 for two weeks with “Sweet Nothing” featuring Florence Welch as guest vocalist. The other thing that Calvin achieves is to become the first Scottish act to reach the top of the Australian charts this century. The last Scottish artists to make it to No.1 here were The Proclaimers in February of 1989 with “I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)”, whilst the last solo Male artist from Scotland was back in June 1978 when the Gerry Rafferty song “Baker Street” spent a single week at the top. So Calvin becomes the eight artist from Scotland to make it to No.1 here, and the third Solo Male artist from former land of The Pitts, plus all previous Scottish acts to hit No.1 here have only done-so the one time.

Jumping up five places to a new peak of No.2 are Nico & Vinz with “That’s How You Know”, which now becomes their second song to reach No.2, as last years “Am I Wrong” spent three weeks during June at that peak too. The Weeknd holds at No.3 for a fourth week with “Can’t Feel My Face”, whilst overall the song has spent five weeks at this position and three weeks at No.2, whilst also holding steady is Lost Frequencies with “Are You With Me”, at No.4 a fourth week also.

The first chart entry for R. City now becomes the duos first Top 10 hit as “Locked Away” leaps up seventeen places to No.5, and as the song is sung by Adam Levine from Maroon 5, the song now beats the peak of his last Top 10 entry, as “Sugar” peaked at No.6 for three weeks back in March. Also jumping into the Top 10 is Taylor Swift with “Wildest Dreams” which is up twelve spots to a new peak of No.6, becoming her fifth consecutive Top 10 hit from her current album “1989”, which is also sitting at No.6, and no other previous Taylor albums has amassed this many Top 10 singles, overall it becomes her twelfth single to make it into the ten within Australia. Galantis drop back one place to No.7 with “Peanut Butter Jelly”, and the third of four new entries to the Top 10 sees Vance Joy up seven places to No.8 with “Fire & the Flood” which benefits from the song being sung on ‘The Voice: Semi Final’ last Sunday night and now it becomes the acts second Top 10 hit and the song also picks up a Gold (●) sales certification.

Three weeks ago One Direction dropped from 1 to 8 with “Drag Me Down”, but this week we see Delta Goodrem fall harder from the No.1 nest down to No.9 with “Wings” which was atop the charts for the previous two weeks and the tumble comes the week of ‘The Voice: Grand Final’ so it could get another boost of wind from this weekends show to keep it soaring within the ten. Debuting at No.10 is Nelly and Jeremih with “The Fix” which samples the 1983 single “Sexual Healing” (HP-4, peaked late March) by Marvin Gaye which was his first and last Top 10 single in Australia. Nelly was last within the Top 10 back in 2013 with “Hey Porsche” (HP-5, peaked April 2013) and this new entry now becomes his eleventh Top 10 hit in Australia, plus it’s the first for Jeremih who had previously gone as high as No.12 on the Natalie La Rose track “Somebody” back in early May.

UP: All of the Top 20 are songs dropping down this week expect for one, “Show Me Love” for Sam Feldt, which rises a place to a new peak of No.19. Felix Jaehn blasts up forty two places to land at No.21 with his rendition of the 1983 single for Chaka Khan, “Ain’t Nobody (Loves Me Better)”, with the song now having its third Top 50 placing during its life (the other two were covers in 1994). Hardwell and Jason DeRulo climb up to a new peak of No.26 with “Follow Me” and after spending the past three weeks in the 31-40 to region, “Omen” for Disclosure and Sam Smith is up six places to a new peak of No.29. Last weeks UK No.1 single for Jess Glynne entitled “Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself” leaps up seventeen places to No.37 here and with the DVD and Blu-Ray release of ‘Furious 7’, the song “See You Again” for Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth is back up four to No.39. The duet between Jarryd James and Julia Stone entitled “Regardless” bullets forty-four places to land at No.48 this week and returning to the Top 50 after falling out last week is Meg Mac with “Never Be”, back up twenty-one places to No.50.

DOWN: Adam Lambert is down six places to No.11 with his “Ghost Town” (HP-2x2, WI10-3), Aston Merrygold is down two to No.12 with “Get Stupid” (HP-10, WI10-1), Pia Mia with Chris Brown and Tyga drop five to No.14 with “Do it Again” (HP-5, WI10-5) and former No.1 “Like I’m Gonna Lose You” (HP-1x4, WI10-10) for Meghan Trainor and John Legend falls seven to No.15 after ten weeks within the Top 10 and the song is newly certified 2x▲Platinum in sales. Selena Gomez and A$AP Rocky are down four to No.16 and Fifth Harmony drop five places to No.22 with “Worth it”, whilst Robin Schulz also leaves the Top 20, dropping four to No.23 with “Headlights”. The new UK No.1 single this week is “Fight Song” for Rachel Platten, which here is down five to No.35 and falling seven places to No.44 is “Let it Go” by James Bay and down six to No.46 is Jason DeRulo with “Want to Want Me”.

Landing her sixteenth Top 100 and eleventh Top 50 chart entry is Jessie J with a song she performed on ‘The Voice: Semi Final’ show last Sunday night entitled “Ain't Been Done” and is taken from her current album “Sweet Talker” which bullets back up the albums chart at No.22 this week.

Lower 50: Fetty Wap sees two of his lower fifty entries jump up to new peaks this week, with “679” up six to No.61 (former peak was #63) and “Again” jumps up thirteen spots to a new peak of No.63. The Rita Ora and Chris Brown track “Body on Me” jumps up fourteen spots to No.66 and Kygo is back up seven to No.67 with “Stole the Show” (HP-56). James Bay climbs up twelve places to a new chart height of No.84 with his third entry “Scars” and the two returning tracks to the Top 100 this week are “Last Request” (HP-67) by Paolo Nutini at No.87 after the song was sung on ‘The Voice’ last week and back in at No.98 for its 114th Top 100 chart week is “Riptide” by Vance Joy.

New York based singer/songwriter/producer Dawin Polanco goes just by his first name Dawin, and his first single “Dessert” comes in at No.53 and has so far reached the Top 10 in New Zealand. A few places lower at No.57 is the second entry for LunchMoney Lewis entitled “Whip it!” with guest vocalist Chloe Angelides and it features the hook and sample from the 1982 song “Let it Whip” by The Dazz Band (HP-97, August 1982) and was later covered by local dance act CDB (HP-51, peaked June 1998), and the previous entry for Mr. Lewis was the No.1 from March “Bills” which is sitting at No.93 this week.

Nick Jonas debuts at No.79 with the first new materiel from his forthcoming third solo album entitled “Levels”, whilst the fourth chart entry from the September 11th due fifth album “That’s the Spirit” for UK heavy metal act Bring Me the Horizon enters at No.91 entitled “True Friends”, following on from recent entries “Happy Song” (HP-68, July) and “Throne” (HP-58, early August) and last years “Drown” (HP-27, Dec 2014).

Another metal act that has their fifth album coming out in September is local group Parkway Drive entitled “Ire” (due Sept 25th) and the second chart entry from that album is new at No.96 entitled “Crushed”, whilst they previously charted with “Vice Grip” (HP-88, June). The final new entry of the week sneaks in at #100 and is Carly Rae Jepsen with “Run Away with Me”, which is taken from her new album “E.mo.tion” which debuts at No.37 this week, following on from the albums first entry “I Really Like You” (HP-37, peaked late March).

The sixth studio album for US heavy metal act Disturbed entitled “Immortalized” becomes the acts second No.1 chart-topper on the ARIA Albums chart this week.

“Immortalized” becomes the 739th No.1 album in Australia (1965 to 2015) and the 590th for ARIA (1983 to 2015), plus the 386th to debut at the top of the charts and the thirteenth for the Reprise record label. The acts fourth album “Indestructible” debuted at the top and stayed for a single week back on the 16th of June, 2008 and in-between those two No.1 albums, the Reprise label has had three No.1 albums, all by Michael Buble (although it could be seen as six No.1’s, as his ‘Christmas’ album did go back to the top on four separate occasions).

This is the first time that the word ‘Immortalized’ has appeared in a No.1 album title (and also on the albums chart too) and this new number one becomes the 268th for an American act to reach the top, plus the 346th for a Group, with four of the five last No.1 albums all coming from hard-rock or metal acts, Tame Impala (27-July), Northlane (3-Aug), and last weeks Bullet for My Valentine (24-Aug).

The N.W.A. biopic opens in Australia next week and in anticipation of its release the soundtrack and Dr. Dre album “Compton” are back up two places to No.2, whilst three of the group’s albums return to the chart this week too. Debuting at No.3 is the thirteenth studio album for Bon Jovi entitled “Burning Bridges”, which becomes the acts fourteenth Top 10 album (11 studio, 2 best of, 1 live) in Australia and their first studio album NOT to debut at No.1 since album #11 “The Circle” (HP-4) from November 2009, as eight of their previous albums have all debuted in the top spot.

The third studio album for Matchbox 20 lead singer Rob Thomas debuts at No.4 entitled “The Great Unknown”, which is the same position his previous album “Cradlesong” debuted at back in mid-July 2009 before it climbed to No.3, whilst his first solo entry “…Something to Be” debuted and peaked at No.1 in May 2005. The final Top 10 debut is in at No.5, and is the third album for local act Short Stack called “Homecoming” which becomes their third Top 10 album in the process, as their previous two albums were “This is Bat Country” (LP#2, HP-6, November 2010) and “Stack is the New Black” (LP#1, HP-1x1, August 2009), with both albums having spent a single week in the top ten each.

Holding steady this week are Taylor Swift with “1989” and Ed Sheeran with his “x” album at No.6 and No.7 respectively, whilst the only album from last weeks Top 10 debuts to survive for a second week within the ten this week is Jimmy Barnes’ “Best of The Soul Years”, dropping five places to No.8, after which Meghan Trainor and her “Title” are down a place to No.9 and after last weeks screening on TV of “Two Strong Hearts” for John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John, the album jumps back up nine places to No.10.

UP: Tame Impala climb back up a couple of places to No.13 with “Currents” and after singing her new song “Ain’t Been Done” (TW-47) on ‘The Voice: Semi Final’ last Sunday night, Jessie J sees her album “Sweet Talker” leap back up thirty-two places to No.22 this week. The DVD and Blu-Ray release of ‘Furious 7’ again helps the album to climb, this week it’s back up fourteen places to No.28 and after “Never Tear us Apart” was sung on ‘The Voice’ last Sunday, the INXS collection “The Very Best” is back up fifteen places to No.30. The soundtrack to the just opened film ‘Southpaw’ (HP-13) blasts back into the Top 100 at No.36 and climbing up to a new peak of No.38 is Paul Simon with his “Ultimate Collection” set. With the announcement this past week of a new album plus the release of a new single entitled “Lost”, the Cold Chisel collection “The Best of–All for You” bullets back up thirty-two places to No.41, whilst also blasting back into the Top 50 is the AC/DC set “Rock or Bust”, back up forty-two spots to No.48 this week.

DOWN: Last weeks top two debuting albums both fall ten places this week, with the No.1 debut “Venom” (HP-1x1, WI10-1) for Bullet for My Valentine down to No.11 and “Aesthesis” (HP-2, WI10-1) by Dead Letter Circus falling to No.12, whilst The Waifs’ “Beautiful You” (HP-5, WI10-1) tumbles thirteen spots to No.18 this week. The Rubens’ “Hoops” (HP-2, WI10-2) album is down five to No.14 and after spending two further weeks in the Top 10, “Chaos and the Calm” (HP-3, WI10-5) for James Bay is down six to No.16 now. Josh Groban and his “Stages” album drops fourteen to No.26, Adam Lambert and “The Original High” is down eleven to No.27 and Gurummul sees his “Gospel Album” fall thirteen spots to No.31. Sia drops eighteen places to No.35 with “1000 Forms of Fear” and spiraling down twenty-two spots to No.44 is Kendrick Lamar and his “To Pimp a Butterfly” album. Falling out from last weeks Top 50 are Northlane (31 to 51), Jason DeRulo (32 to 57), Lorde (38 to 63), Major Lazer (50 to 64), Fear Factory (29 to 66), David Bowie (44 to 68), Josh Pyke (40 to 70), the ‘Pitch Perfect (1)’ soundtrack (49 to 72), Shane Nicholson (37 to 86), and leaving the Top 100 from last weeks fifty are Avril Lavigne (#23), Dillon Francis (#25), Melanie Martinez (#27, although with her single ‘Pity Party’ is getting airplay, so this album could return soon), Neck Deep (#28), Andrew Hagger (#43) and Stories (#47).

Swedish heavy metal Ghost (former Ghost BC) debut with their third studio album at No.20 entitled “Meliora” (Latin for ‘the pursuit of something better’), which becomes their first Top 50 entry and second Top 100 berth, as their second album “Infestissumam” made it to No.62 in April 2013. One place lower is the first entry for Newcastle singer/songwriter Szymon Borzestowski who goes by just his first name, and who passed away from depression in December 2012. His family worked to get his music out and now his songs can be found on the album “Tigersapp” which enters at No.21. Adelaide rock band Bad//Dreems see their debut album “Dogs at Bay” come in at No.33 this week and one place lower at No.34 is the first Top 50 appearance of the 1996 compilation for N.W.A. “Greatest Hits”, which originally peaked at No.64 in September of that year, whilst they also return with two more albums in the lower fifty this week.

Carly Rae Jepsen debuts at No.37 with her third album “E.mo.tion” which features the former No.37 single “I Really Like You” and the new track “Run Away with Me” (New TW-100). Her previous album “Kiss” debuted and peaked at No.8 late September 2012 and this is her second chart entry overall. The second album and first chart entry for US country singer Kip Moore entitled “Wild Ones” comes in at No.46, whilst the third entry and second EP for US Christian metalcore act The Devil Wears Prada entitled “Space” comes in at No.47 and the final Top 50 entry is new at fifty, the self-titled album for X-Factor 2014 fifth place-getter Caitlyn Shadbolt.

Lower 50: Returning at No.54 is In Hearts Wake with “Skydancer” and back in at No.58 are Fleetwood Mac with their “Greatest Hits” set. The Queen “Greatest Hits” set is back up seven to No.67 and rising eleven to No.88 are Gang of Youths with “The Positions”. Further returning albums include “21” for Adele (#90), the 40th Anniversary edition of “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” for Elton John (#95) and Chet Faker with “Built on Glass” (#100), whilst collections for Neil Diamond (#83) and Michael Jackson (#89) also return to the albums chart this week.

I mentioned earlier that N.W.A. and their biopic film ‘Straight Outta Compton’ is released here next week into cinemas and that they have two albums within the lower fifty, the first of which is their breakout/debut album “Straight Outta Compton” which is back in at No.53 this week. The album originally peaked at No.51 back in late July of 1991, and if it climbs up next week it will be spending its first week in the Top 50, just like their first best of set is doing this week at No.34. Further down the chart the band sees their second best of set “The Strength of Street Knowledge: The Best of” (originally released Dec 2006) makes its first chart appearance at No.98 this week.

New Zealand opera singer Teddy Tahu Rhodes debuts at No.59 with “From Broadway to La Scala”, which becomes his third Top 100 chart entry and his first new entry here in over six years, and one place lower at No.60 is the ninth studio album for Wilco entitled “Star Wars” (nothing to do with the movies), becoming the bands ninth (7 studio and 2 collaborations with Billy Bragg) albums chart entry here.

The fifth album for Northern Ireland Christian/experimental/folk rock/worship act Rend Collective becomes their first entry here, with “As Family We Go” debuting at No.71, and another group achieving the same feat are US heavy metal act The Sword with their fifth studio/first entry here “High Country”, which comes in at No.74. The first new entry in over eleven years here for US rapper Method Man comes in at No.80 entitled “The Meth Lab”, with his last entry being the May 2004 set “Tical 0: The Prequel” (HP-81). And the final new entry comes in at No.82, the self-titled album for US act Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats, which is Nathaniel’s fifth album, but first as this line-up.

NEW ENTRY #210NE TO T100110Nelly (feat Jeremih) - The Fix

It's alright and will surely grow on me, fine if it goes to #1 although I'm rooting for What Do You Mean? or Can't Feel My Face for next #1

Also, Marvin Gaye references in pop songs must be the next Jagger
Last edited:
9v8151Delta Goodrem - Wings <G>

Unless The Voice makes this rebound or it has more physical sales, it'll probably be like #18 next week.
NEW PEAK #48^715514Vance Joy - Fire and the Flood <G>NEW CERT

NEW PEAK #56^121846Taylor Swift - Wildest Dreams

Kinda surprised this is so high this week. Looks like it will end up with a top 3 peak eventually
NEW PEAK #65^172245R. City (feat Adam Levine) - Locked Away

Oh just go away, please don't go to #1!
4HOLD4101Lost Frequencies - Are You With Me (Original Mix)

Despite all the bipolar chart action lately this is still steady.
lol at its obsession with being #4
3HOLD3112The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face <P>

Without a doubt the best song to chart this year (that debuted this year) and will be hard to top. Great to see it still doing so well
NEW PEAK #72^5742Nico & Vinz (feat Kid Ink & Bebe Rexha) - That's How You Know

I like this but I'm glad it's not #1, doesn't deserve to chart higher than Am I Wrong
NEW PEAK #81ST WEEK @ #11^1261Calvin Harris & Disciples - How Deep Is Your Love <G>

Top 1023344
Top 2001100
Calvin's first ARIA #1!!!! About time too. He has so many better tracks but this is still amazing and totally worth it. So happy <3 <3 <3
While I'm not a fan of either I hope this can find a way to stop Bieber from having a #1 hit in Australia next week, ugh how embarrassing would that be!
I hope Justin can stop this tedious run of Sony #1s!
Top 50 dropouts:

LWArtist - Title
265 Seconds Of Summer - Fly Away
44Deorro X Chris Brown - Five More Hours
455 Seconds Of Summer - She's Kinda Hot
48The Rubens - Hoops
49Jamie Lawson - Wasn't Expecting That
50Conrad Sewell - Start Again
Ouch, 3 tracks I like are gone, lucky I changed my AP rules.
There's no good option for #1 next week, but Bieber and his song that sounds like a cheap Nova remix of a slow pop track looks set to get it. I'm hoping Nelly gets it of those two though.

I have no interest in Calvin being at #1, like ever, but at least his song is way better than That's How You Know.

LIKE I'M GONNA LOSE YOU Meghan Trainor Feat. John Legend ▲ 2
POISON Rita Ora ●

NO Albums certified this week.
If anyone doesn't like "How Deep Is Your Love" it doesn't matter... It stopped one of the biggest steaming pile of shite getting to #01 & Calvin Harris has previously hogged prime position. Now hopefully that Nelly comeback single can stop Bieber getting a #01. The Justin Bieber look alike might have decided not to top himself if the song was released earlier.

Also hilarious that Caitlyn Shadbolt getting an original album into the top fifty before Marlisa Punzalan, Dean Ray, Brothers 3 & Reigan Derry. Hilarious!
With any luck, What Do You Mean, Locked Away, Wildest Dreams & How Deep Is Your Love can all be above that weak Nelly song.
Caitlyn's is an EP rather than a full album, but I'm very happy to see it sneak into the top fifty.
And possibly Can't Feel My Face too
Is Meghan Trainor by any chance the first artist to have her first 5 singles go multi-platinum?
I dunno if I'd count her since she's just the featured artist on "Marvin Gaye", but otherwise Bruno Mars did that as well

Although only by counting his own singles as I just learned Nothin' On You is still only platinum.

Enjoying the 90's rap album top 50 debuts, first Dr. Dre with 2001 who first charted in 1999 now N.W.A. with their GH who first charted in 1996

That Nelly song is dreadful, I'm surprised people still buy his music , I don't really want Bieber #1 either, I'm enjoying him having no #1 single to his name still.

Lower 20 (not mentioned above)
102 * Never Tear us Apart - INXS
103 - Stay with Me - Sam Smith
106 - Style - Taylor Swift
111 - Chandelier - Sia
112 - Earned it - The Weeknd

130 - III - JoJo

Cool that Run Away With Me got to sneak in for a single week at least.
Also Lose Yourself still hovering outside the Top 100 for some reason.
Maybe it's Eminem's proximity to Dr. Dre keeping him there
Bulion, Hijinx or anyone else who might be able to help. What months have been strongest in sales this year? Did the beginning of the year have stronger sales than mid year?
Yeah I think it was the start of the year. Uncharacteristic of how it normally is, but a result of declining sales transitioning to streams. To put it in perspective, just on pure sales, "Only One" sold more in its week at #8 than "How Deep Is Your Love" sold last week at #2!
Wow, sales really are beginning to plummet. I expect that we'll have our first sub-10000 selling #1 in March/April 2016. What is really surprising is that sales are descending so much faster now than they ascended in 2010/11
Sales have always been up & down from the beginning. Streaming will be the death trying to make a dream / living out of music. Charts will always be around because music will always be consumed. What's happening & will gradually get worse is the quantity of releases. You're seeing reduced amount of new hits each year due to the increase in re-entry of previous material that is regurgitated & continuously exposed to the public. As it's difficult to gain exposure without "chart" presence in some form & gain momentum to achieve the amount of dollars to filter into your live act & construction of future material. This means that to actually attempt to make your craft your living is vanishing. This is it. Simple. Evidence is everywhere. The quantity of releases in comparison to last decades decreases, type of act - more money is required to sustain a larger group so they are struggling. The big winner is those that had public invest in there future whether that be a record, tape, cd, digital. Streaming is a disposed memory where you're forced what to listen to what's publicised which in turn is the smal quantity of artists that have massive label support which is reduced because they too are killing themselves with constant non restriction of how music is consumed. Placing all the eggs in one basket now. This has now seen the reduction of one hit wonders & the death of s multi genre chart as music that is promoted to U.S. has to be a certain flavour. Hope will eventually come. You can disagree with me but the problem is throw away generation. You watch something simple as a picture of your child will not exist because your device crashed and you didn't back it up there's nothing physical. Music is the same forgotten, lost nothing physical!!!
I won't disagree with you Nate. There's something about owning my music physically that I infinitely prefer. Even though I buy a lot of singles on iTunes, I still burn them all to a disc. It's just what I prefer to have.

And on one hit wonders, it's a sad state of chart affairs when Lunchmoney Lewis (and Omi, but especially Lunchmoney) of all people looks set to score a follow up top fifty charter. I'll grant that I haven't heard the new thing, but Bills is the kind of thing that should (and in the past, would) consign you to that status forever.
That's more often than not though isn't it? Most #1 artists who are basically only known for that song tend to get another top 50 hit. Sure there are your Jann Ardens & Dimples D's, but then there's Snow, DJ Ötzi, Iyaz, Lou Bega and the like.
Looks like I was right a few months ago when I said that only the Top 2 would sell 10,000 units digitally before the end of the year. In fact, it wouldn't be too surprising to see the #1 sell below 10,000 units within the next few months.

This week, the Top 10 collectively sold around 105,000 units digitally, compared to around 190,000 units at the same point last year.

Digital singles sales have been decreasing constantly for the past two years but the drop has really accelerated within the past few months.
Interesting that despite there being less entries now days the Top 10 part of the chart lately seems much more chaotic then usual. Also I co sign with you guys that the CD is still the best way to listen to music.
