The lead single released last Friday from the 20th November due third album for Adele entitled “25” debuts at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart, as “Hello” simply greets the No.1 spot in it’s first week on the charts, but also sells enough to be certified Gold (●) in sales, which is over 35,000+ in its first week of release.
“Hello” becomes the 1044th No.1 single in Australia (1940 to 2015) and the 479th for ARIA (1983 to 2015), plus the 109th song to debut at No.1 and only the second for the XL Record Label, as their/her previous chart-topping single was in late June to early August of 2011 with the song “Someone Like You” (7 weeks), which now gives Adele her eighth accumulated weeks at the top in Australia, placing her equal eleventh on the list of ‘Accumulated Weeks at No.1: 2010’s (Singles)’ alongside the eight weeks that Guy Sebastian and Meghan Trainor have also notched up this decade.
This new No.1 becomes the fifth song to feature a ‘Hello’ in its title, the last one being the classic Lionel Richie track “Hello” (4-June-1984) which spent three weeks at No.1. The song also debuted at the top of the UK charts this week too selling over 333,000 this past week, and the new No.1 for Adele becomes the 196th for an English act to hit the top here and the fourth this year after Paul McCartney (on the Rihanna track), Ellie Goulding and One Direction.
We have two new entries at the top of the chart this week, with Justin Bieber coming in at No.2 with “Sorry” his follow-up to this weeks No.6 track “What Do You Mean” which became his first No.1 here, and now this becomes his third Top 3 hit for 2015, and only his fourth overall. This is the second track lifted from his November 13th due fourth album ‘Purpose’ and its also came in at #2 in the UK, whilst the last time that we had debuts within the top two here was almost ten years ago, late January 2006 when “Run it!” by Chris Brown and “When I’m Gone” by Eminem entered in the top two spots.
The new No.1 streaming single this week is “Hotline Bling” for Drake which is pushed back down to No.3 on the main singles chart this week, whilst also down one spot is The Weeknd with “The Hills” to No.4, and dropping four places to No.5 after spending the past four weeks at No.1 are Macklemore & Ryan Lewis with “Downtown”, whilst the chart-topping track prior to that, “What Do You Mean” for Justin Bieber is also down one to No.6 this week.
Back to back again this week are the sweetness of Robin Schulz and Francesco Yates with “Sugar” at No.7 and rapper Dawin with the equally tasty “Dessert” at No.8, whilst blasting up twenty-two places to land at No.9 is Swedish singer Zara Larsson and MNEK with “Never Forget You” making it her first appearance in the Australian Top 10, whilst dropping two places to No.10 is Ellie Goulding with “On My Mind”.
UP: LunchMoney Lewis was in the country this past week on a promo tour, performing his track “Whip it!” wherever he appeared, including X-Factor, but his song remains at No.11 for a third consecutive week. Last week Duke Dumont and “Ocean Drive” equaled his previous best peak of No.17, but this week the song jumps up four places to a new peak of No.13 making it now his highest charting single in Australia. Conrad Sewell lands his third Top 20 hit for 2015 as his latest song “Who You Lovin” is up twelve places to a new chart height of No.17. Shawn Mendes halves his position from last week as he is up twenty-four places to a new peak of No.24 with “Stitches” and up nine places from last weeks debut at No.37 to No.28 this week are Marcus Marr & Chet Faker with “The Trouble With us”. Diplo snuck back into the Top 50 last week at No.50 with “Be Right There”, which this week leaps up sixteen spots to a new peak of No.34 and Birds of Tokyo are back up five places to No.35 with “I’d Go with You Anywhere” (HP-31). James Bay returns to the Top 100 at No.40 with his former No.55 single “Scars” and returning to the Top 50 this week are Major Lazer and DJ Snake with “Lean On” at No.49.
DOWN: After debuting at No.4 last week, One Direction’s “Perfect” drops eight spots to No.12 this week, whilst “Lay it All on Me” (HP-7, WI10-2) for Rudimental and Ed Sheeran is down five to No.14 and after a single week within the Top 10, Jess Glynne drops eight to No.18 with “Don’t Be So Hard on Yourself”. “Hula Hoop” for OMI falls nine to No.22, Taylor’s “Wildest Dreams” dwindle down seven places to No.23, Calvin’s former No.1 “How Deep is Your Love” drops seven to No.27, and after peaking at No.22 last week “Runnin” for Naughty Boy & Beyonce is also down seven to No.29 this week. “Good for You” for Selena Gomez drops eight to No.31, Little Mix tumble eleven to No.38 with “Love Me Like You” after peaking at No.27 last week, “Wild” for Troye Sivan is down seven to No.39 and Jessica Mauboy is down eight to No.42 with “This Ain’t Love”. Dropping into the lower fifty are Adam Lambert with “Ghost Town” (44 to 55), “Easy Love” for Sigala (39 to 59), “Cool for the Summer” by Demi Lovato (47 to 62), “Talk Me Down” by Troye Sivan (36 to 63), Demi Lovato with “Confident” (35 to 64) and “Like an Animal” by Rufus (46 to 67).
US alt-rock band X Ambassadors land their first singles chart entry this week by debuting at No.43 with “Renegades”, which is being used in the latest Jeep ads on TV, whilst the final new entry to the Top 50 this week comes in at No.48, “Home” by One Direction, the fourth song to chart from their November 13th (also) due fifth studio album “Made in the A.M.”.
Lower 50: Lost Frequencies jump up six places to a new peak of No.51 with their second entry “Reality”, and back up twelve spots to No.77 is the latest Matt Corby track “Monday”. “The Horses” for Daryl Braithwaite snuck back into the charts at No.99 last week, but jumps up twenty places to No.79 this week and returning tracks this week include Peking Duk with “Say My Name”, which they sang on X-Factor this past week, and Adele’s first No.1 single “Someone Like You” is back in at No.87. 5 Seconds of Summer return at No.93 with “Hey Everybody!” at No.93 and “Here” for Alessia Cara is back in at No.94, Sam Smith returns at No.98 with his Bond theme “Writings on the Wall”, which should jump up next week as he performed it on Graham Norton on Friday night (here) and the film is due soon too.
Dance acts ZHU, Skrillex and newcomers THEY team up for the track “Working for it” which comes in at No.52, whilst a few places lower at No.58 is the new ballad for Gwen Stefani entitled “Used to Love You”, whilst the new Joe Jonas band DNCE comes in ten places lower at No.68 with their debut single “Cake by the Ocean”.
Ellie Goulding marks another week with another new entry as the track “Lost and Found” comes in at No.70, with last weeks entry “Something in the Way You Move” (HP-90) leaving the Top 100 this week. One place lower at No.71 is “Keeping Score” for Sydney dance act/producer L.D.R.U. featuring vocalist Paige IV, and finally coming in at No.80 is Meghan Trainor with “Better When I'm Dancin'”, which is the theme song to the upcoming ‘Peanuts’ movie.
The second studio album for Sydney band 5 Seconds of Summer debuts at the top of the ARIA Albums chart this week, entitled “Sounds Good Feels Good”, the album becomes the bands second No.1 album in Australia.
“Sounds Good Feels Good” becomes the 748th No.1 album in Australia (1965 to 2015) and the 599th for ARIA (1983 to 2015), plus the 395th to debut at No.1, in fact the past twelve weeks have seen a new No.1 each successive week, and this new number one album becomes the seventeenth for the Capitol record label, and as I mentioned the second for 5 Seconds of Summer, as their debut self-titled album came in at No.1 on the 7th of July, 2014. The new album has also (so far) entered at the top of the English albums chart too, becoming their first to hit the top there, and it sold twice as much as their #2 this week.
This new No.1 becomes the second album to feature the words ‘Sounds’ (as opposed to just ‘sound’) and ‘Good’, the previous one being the ‘Good Morning Vietnam’ soundtrack (6-June-1988) and it is the first ‘Feels’, the previous closest being the Pete Murray album “Feeler” (8-March-2004). The new chart-topping album also becomes the 190th No.1 for an Australian Act and the third consecutive for a local act, plus the album is also the 351st for a Group (local or international), and this is also the third Top 10 album for 5SOS, as their late December 2014 live set “LiveSOS” debuted and peaked at No.7.
The eleventh studio album (12th if you include the Xmas album) for Chris Isaak debuts at No.2 entitled “First Comes the Night”, which is partly helped by his current appearance as a judge/mentor on X-Factor, and it becomes his sixth Top 10 album in Australia and his equal second highest charting, as his fifth album “Forever Blue” climbed to No.2 for two weeks in August of 1995, whilst his “Best of” collection became his only No.1 here in June 2006.
“Like a Version Volume 11” is only down one spot to No.3 this week and is the only album to survive from last weeks Top 5 for another week, because two further albums enter within the five, coming in at No.4 is Carrie Underwood with her fifth studio album “Storyteller”, which becomes her fourth album to chart here (3 studio and 1 best of) and is her equal highest charting album, as her previous album “Blown Away” also reached No.4 back in May 2012, and right behind at No.6 is the debut album for local singer Nathaniel entitled “Yours”, helped by his appearance on X-Factor this past week too.
“1989” for Taylor Swift is on hold at No.6 again this week, whilst last weeks No.1 debut for Hillsong Worship “Open Heaven/River Wild” drops down seven places to No.8 this week. In-between those two is the fifth of six Top 10 debuts this week, classical singer Andrea Bocelli with his tribute to the movies entitled “Cinema” coming in at No.7. This is his fifteenth studio album and contains collaborations with such artists as Ariana Grande and Nicole Scherzinger, whilst it also becomes his sixth Top 10 album in Australia. The final new entry to the Top 10 comes in at No.9, “Another Country” for Rod Stewart, which contains all original material and this is his 29th studio album and now his 21st Top 10 album here in Australia, and finally holding onto the No.10 spot for another week is Ed Sheeran with his “x” album.
UP: The newly re-packaged James Bay album “Chaos & the Calm” is back up thirteen places to No.16, whilst the biggest leap of the week goes to Adele and her second album “21”, which leaps up eighty places to No.17 this week thanks to her new No.1 song “Hello”. Fleetwood Mac started their latest Australian tour last week in Sydney, and this helps a heap of their albums to climb and re-enter this week, with their “Greatest Hits” album back up ten to No.18, “The Very Best of” returns at No.27, “25 Years – The Chain” is back in at No.47, and “Rumours” (No.1 at the this time in 1978) is back in at No.64 too. The recently released documentary ‘Amy’ about Amy Winehouse helps her album “Back to Black” jumps back up twenty-two spots to No.40 and also back into the Top 50 are Mumford & Sons with “Wilder Mind”, back up ten places to No.46.
DOWN: With six new entries to the Top 10 this week, the six dropouts are from Cold Chisel with “The Perfect Crime” (HP-2, WI10-3) down three to No.11, The Weeknd with “Beauty Behind the Madness” (HP-1x1, WI10-8) dropping four to No.13, “Limit of Love” (HP-1x1, WI10-2) by Boy & Bear down seven to No.14, and after all debuting within the ten last week, dropping out are Demi Lovato with “Confident” (3 to 23), the self-titled Jamie Lawson set (4 to 25) and the self-titled Pentatonix album (5 to 34). Two former hard-rock No.1 albums both fall seven places apiece, “Ire” by Parkway Drive and “That’s the Spirit” by Bring Me the Horizon to No.19 and No.20 respectively. Jess Glynne falls twelve to No.26, Lana Del Rey falls eleven to No.30, INXS is back down fourteen places to No.31, Selena Gomez drops seventeen to No.32, N.W.A.’s “Greatest Hits” is down eleven to No.33, Disclosure, Chvrches and Dr. Dre’s “Compton” soundtrack all drop down twelve places each to No.35, No.36 and No.37 respectively. “In the Lonely Hour” by Sam Smith drops to its lowest position ever, down seven to No.41 and “Hoops” for The Rubens are down sixteen to No.42, Robbie’s “In & Out of Consciousness” compilation is back down eight to No.43, David Gilmour drops sixteen to No.48 and Tame Impala’s “Currents” fall ten places to No.49. Dropping into the lower fifty are Iron Maiden (42 to 57), Rudimental (36 to 59), Sia (48 to 60), Bryan Adams (45 to 62), Ed Sheeran’s “+” (18 to 74), and leaving the Top 100 from last weeks fifty are Nothing But Thieves (#27), State Champs (#31), OMI (#37), Machine Gun Kelly (#38), Matchbox 20 (#41), Lorde (#44), Raury (#46) and Foals (#47).
New Zealand act Fat Freddy’s Drop see their fourth studio album “Bays” come in at No.12 this week, becoming the bands third entry here and now second highest charting, as the last album “Blackbird” debuted and peaked at No.11 in early July of 2013, and their first entry here was “Dr. Boondigga & the BW” which made it to No.45 in June of 2009.
The third in the latest blues albums for local singer/songwriter Russell Morris is entitled “Red Dirt Red Heart” and it debuts at No.21 this week, becoming his seventh album to chart in Australia, with the two recent albums for Russell having both reached the Top 10, Sharkmouth” (HP-6, peaked April 2013) and “Van Diemen’s Land (HP-4, debuted 7 peaked April 2014). And the final Top 50 entry this week is the second studio album and first entry here for Canadian indie-rock act Half Moon Run, the album is “Sun Leads Me on”, which comes in at No.39 this week.
Lower 50: The Waifs blast back up twenty-three places to No.53 with “Beautiful You” and Avicii’s “Stories” are back up sixteen to No.54. The first album for Adele “19” is back in at No.55 and current tourist Neil Diamond is back in at No.61 with “All Time Greatest Hits”. Hozier’s self-titled album has just been released on Friday as a re-packaged album, but for this week it is back up thirteen places to No.65 and Years & Years’ “Communion” returns to the Top 100 at No.71, with the recent self-titled Lawson album back in at a new peak of No.76 (it entered at #84 on the 19-Oct chart for a single week), and with AC/DC starting their tour in Sydney on the 4th of November, their latest album “Rock or Bust” is back in at No.77, “The Best of” for Chris Isaak returns at No.86, “The Essential” by Michael Jackson reappears at No.89, “A.L.L.A.” by A$AP Rock is back in at No.90, “Abba Gold & More” returns at No.91 (‘Mamma Mia’ screened on Channel 7 last weekend), “The Eminem Show” for Eminem is back in at No.94 and the final returning album is at No.98, The Hilltop Hoods with “Walking Under Stars”.
UK crooner Daniel O’Donnell debuts at No.5 in his home countries’ chart, but here he debuts at No.51 with his latest album “The Hank Williams Songbook”, and the fourth album for Canadian pop/rock group Marianas Trench entitled “Astoria” comes in at No.56 and is their first albums chart entry in Australia. The fourth album for California singer/songwriter Joanna Newsom debuts at No.63 entitled “Divers” and is her third entry here, with her last set “Have One on Me” debuting and peaking at No.62 in March 2010. The final entry at No.99 is the second solo album for local country singer Drew McAlister entitled “Black Sky”, whilst he has appeared on three previous entries for his other project, the duo McAlister Kemp, and this is his first solo chart appearance.

I know I said something about Dessert last week, but I just meant Whip It deserves to be top 10 as much. Meanwhile The Fix and That's How You Know get free passes But fight the real enemy *tears up a picture of Macklemore*
And I certainly agree on The Fix, the more I hear it the more I'm confused it charted so well. Nothing on Somebody and Don't Tell 'Em, most DJ Mustard and soundalike hits and most of Nelly's hits too Last edited:
In answer to the question earlier, only two singles in the ARIA (in-house charts) era have peaked at #11 for four weeks. The vast majority of singles that peak at #11 only do so for a solitary week.
By the way, Deeper and Deeper could be said to arguably hold the record at 5 consecutive weeks at #11 due to its run of three consecutive weeks at #11 happening on both sides of the two-week Christmas break.
All I can think about is the likelihood that she would have had another Top 10 hit if it wasn't for that pesky Christmas break! Deeper and Deeper is one of my favourites of Madonna's. A personal Top 5 EOY single in fact.
I'm working through the AMR data as we speak and can say that I've probably found an undisputed record holder! Pointer Sisters' He's So Shy (five consecutive weeks at #11 with no dodgy Christmas breaks to consider). lol
3rd worst number 1 of 2015 behind Bills and Cheerleader. SERIOUSLY salty this boring POS blocked The Weeknd and Drake. Ariana surely is dethroning her next week, right ? Last edited:
There is actually a tie for most weeks at #11, it also happened for "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' on" by Jerry Lee Lewis which spent six non-consecutive weeks at No.11 in November (2 weeks), December (1 week) 1957, January (1 week) and then February (2 weeks) 1958.
Further mutiple of 3 or more weeks at #11 pre-1960
1957 - WHole Lotta Shakin' Goin' on - Jerry Lee Lewis (6 weeks) (non-consec) 1959 - Tell Him No - Ted & Ray (3 weeks) (non-consecutive) 1958 - Why Don't They Understand - George Hamilton IV (3 weeks) (non-consec)
Actually kinda hoping Whip It! is #11 again for the all 11s it will have next week Also I'm glad Hello is #1, if anything Downtown should be blamed for Hotline Bling and The Hills not being #1 since the sales were very close last week (and even a slightly higher streaming ratio would've given Hotline Bling the #1 imo, also I'm still unsure whether The Hills is getting all the sales and streams it should be) so yeah Focus is already down to #6 on iTunes so it might not even be top 5 on the next chart
Didn't notice how quickly Powerful had dropped down the chart. Also lol I Don't Like It, I Love It finally out. Alessia re-entering is awesome, hope she can get more weeks in. Pity 41-50 this week consists of mostly old and blah things, would've preferred #51 and #52 to have occupied that space

Adele now has the second highest weeks sales for 2015, beaten only by the 20-April-2015 chart which had "See You Again" selling 62490+ copies in total to this weeks 59070+ for "Hello".
Yeah Sorry almost matched What Do You Mean?'s numbers so quite unlucky timing. Another Lonely Night is kind of another moment for ARIA since it was probably denied last week when it probably would've made the top 100. Also ooh Kamikaze, perhaps that means it has a good chance at making it next week
I'd have thought Adele is a chance to sneak #1 EOY but if those are her first week sales, it won't be easy unless she's still #1 at the end of the year and has a big Christmas week; of course Hello might be stifled when the album comes out, especially if there's another single.
Very unlikely (in fact pretty much impossible) that Hello will be the biggest seller of the year. It'd have to have similar sales to this week for the rest of the year if it were to do that I think. Even top 5 feels like a stretch.
I think we'll have another #1 before the end of the year too. I don't see Hello spending more than 5 weeks at #1
On what Hijinx said, is 25 a possibility for the albums EOY #1? If it has massive sales I feel like it could, and it would be great to have it at #1 instead of something from 2014. I don't pay near as much attention to album sales though so maybe that's an overestimation Last edited:
Thanks gents. Just following this thread and there are a few comments about really poor songs charting atm. Don't really like "hello" but just have this feeling it is going to just sit there. We'll see I suppose. Keep up the informative work. Cheers.
