OKAY so I'm gonna post my prediction. In light of the latest J Award result - I'm gonna go out on a HUGE limb....
Feel free to post yours!

I can imagine quite a few artists who might "do a Vampire Weekend" this year (eg. The Weeknd, RUFUS & Alison Wonderland spring to mind).
Should be an interesting list, with quite a few multiple entries to speak of. Last edited:

In my opinion, 'Lean On' doesn't feel like a #1 song... I don't know. However, I can see 'Do You Remember' sitting comfortably at the top. I personally hope 'The Hills' goes #1 (Unlikely but it would be cool!). And in addition to that, other songs I would love to feature amongst the top 10 off the top of my head are 'Downtown', 'The Trouble With Us', Cold War Kids 'First', Hopium's 'Right Now', Halsey's 'New Americana', Sia's 'Alive' and Miike Snow's 'Heart Is Full'... Most of those are again unlikely but anyway... I also like Santigold's newie and Illy's 'Swear Jar'...
Should be a great countdown! I still also feel like there is anther big song or two left to come... A la 'Uptown Funk' last year...
Oh and maybe Taylor Swift will have a chance this year with Wildest Dreams
I was bored and wanted to have some fun I look forward to voting opening so I can refine my preds because it's hard to know exactly what people will actually come out to vote for. Here is my tiramisu

Hahaha brilliant Hijinx, Coldplay, McLovin & #blackandblue are personal faves. Here's 20 big ones, might post a full 100 once voting list is out!
1. Marcus Marr & Chet Faker - The Trouble With Us 2. Hermitude - The Buzz 3. Kendrick Lamar - King Kunta 4. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Downtown 5. Major Lazer - Lean On 6. The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face 7. Jarryd James - Do You Remember 8. Tame Impala - Let It Happen 9. The Rubens - Hoops 10. Disclosure ft. Lorde - Magnets 11. RUFUS - You Were Right 12. Vance Joy - Fire And The Flood 18. Flume ft. Andrew Wyatt - Some Minds 19. The Wombats - Greek Tragedy 20. Meg Mac - Never Be
I admit I am not the sharpest tool in the shed especially on a 40 degree day and a full on day at work but a lot of them took me a while to get. Some down the lower ranks especially still have me puzzled especially when you list a song like Vance Joy - Riptide at #5 and then list Daniel Johns - Fire & The Flood lower down.
I do hope Automatic ranks higher than almost missing the top 100 at #95.
My predictions 1. Major Lazer & DJ Snake - Lean On 2. The Weeknd - Can't Feel my Face 3. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis - Down Town 4. Drake - Hotline Bling 5. The Rubens - Hoops 6. Marcus Marr & Chet Faker - The Trouble with Us 7. Duke Dumont - Ocean Drive 8. Vance Joy - Fire and the Flood 9. The Weeknd - The Hills 10. Jarryd James - Do You Remember 11. Asta & Allday - Dynamite
Acts with 3+ entries: Courtney Barnett, Tame Impala, Florence + the Machine, The Weeknd and Disclosure
I'd love to see Let It Happen win because IMO it's the best Aussie song of the year, but since i doubt that would happen, i'd be happy enough with Lean On, DYR, Hotline Bling or anything by Florence or The Weeknd
A lot of the contenders I have gotten sick of this year, so I really hope I will like the #1
ftr, approved songs would be any Tame Impala, Jarryd James or The Trouble With Us and I guess I can let Downtown slip this time although Macklemore doesn't really deserve 2 #1s
I think if anyone has the potential to bag the most, it's probably Tame Impala. But I don't see anyone getting more than 4 this year, as tends to be the norm.
Tame Impala should get Let It Happen, Cause I'm A Man, Eventually & The Less I Know The Better. I feel for some reason that Yes I'm Changing & Reality In Motion could get placings too.
I expect Florence to get 5 with What Kind Of Man, St Jude, Ship To Wreck, Queen Of Peace & Delilah in the chart.
Can't be sure though because I wasn't even aware of the Hottest 100's existence until the 2011 chart so I'm not an expert by any means
I think St Jude might not make it in the Hottest 100, and possibly Queen Of Peace too.
I also think that Major Lazer, Duke Dumont, DJ Snake, Peking Duk, and possibly Carmada will all benefit from a string of Stereosonic Festival performances over the next few weekends.

I really like this year's list, particularly compared to last year's. Not sure which of the top 2 I prefer but would've preferred Courtney at #1, at least the Facebook whingers will shut up though Otherwise though, I like it as a cross-section of so many different musical conversations: a mix-match of genres, new artists and old, critically acclaimed releases and the artists who define the unique JJJ view of music. Oh and the music's generally good, just haven't heard #9/#10 yet, but the Jamie/Kendrick inclusions more than satiate me. Only the second time a US hip-hop album has gotten in (after "Yeezus") and the highest ever hip-hop album for TPAB. Modern classic
While I did put Barnett ahead of Tamey in my list (for now), they're really hard to split. Great top 3 in fact, they're my favourite albums of that top 10.
Yeah tough field. I was a bit surprised to see no Hermitude either given how big (and good) that album was. 2 entries is still a good effort though, especially how US artists seem to be doing gradually worse.
They unveiled the Hottest 100 site today, no voting list yet though lol. Voting opens on Friday I think.
Yeah that's true, completely forgot about hermitude! I wonder why they're opening it so early this year? I really hope there's no controversy this year, I didn't mind people voting for t swizzle last year but I hated when it was made a massive deal by the media and people that voted "just to annoy jjj listeners" (which they were successful to me at least haha) Last edited:
Voting opens on Friday? seems early. Is that correct?
Looking forward to the Jinx updates. I enjoyed them last year so hope to see them continue again this year.
Courtney Barnett is up for a few Grammy noms so this attention might work in her favour to score a few extra votes especially from overseas voters who are just being exposed to her now. Maybe not but if she is known over acts like Jarryd, Tkay, Tuka or E^st for example it could only be an added bonus.
So I had 14 songs I really wanted to vote for but had to narrow that down to 10.. And then I discovered Ego was on the voting list which just made things even more difficult... lol
My votes:
Can't Feel My Face - The Weeknd Die Young - GRMM Division - Elizabeth Rose Ego - Tove Styrke Games - Alison Wonderland Go - The Chemical Brothers Lean On - Major Lazer Love Like Mine - Miami Horror Pay No Mind - Madeon Young - Vallis Alps
Unfortunately these 5 songs missed out
Be Right There - Diplo & Sleepy Tom Counting Sheep - SAFIA Puppet Theatre - Claptone The Trouble With Us - Marcus Marr & Chet Faker U Don't Know - Alison Wonderland
Good luck to all of these songs though + others I like a lot, excited for January 26!
Good to see Missy Elliott feature in the list. I dont think her song was ever in the weekly chart.
How come Kanye West is featured with Paul McCartney twice but the song they did with Rihanna is not included? I don't recall seeing any of their songs in the weekly chart.
This year has been the year I've been most involved with JJJ to date, in particular following their Spotify playlist and giving many of songs on rotation a listen (lol). I'm quite proud to say that I started with 61 songs on my shortlist which is most likely a PB. I even have some Unearthed entries!

This got interesting because of a curveball I wasn't totally expecting. I've never had any reason (or opportunity really) to vote a song twice but special circumstances!
On another note, if there is any sort of voting campaign, I hope it's for whatever Dr. Colossus - Stupid Sexy Flanders is which I saw on the voting list
Also #VoteForHijinx
Anyway, tuneage:
Drake - Hotline Bling Flight Facilities - Heart Attack {Ft. Owl Eyes} {Radio Edit} Jamie xx - Loud Places {Ft. Those that just missed out for me: Florence and the Machine - Queen of Peace L-Fresh the Lion - Get Mine Alpine - Damn Baby Action Bronson - Baby Blue Courtney Barnett - Dead Fox Nothing But Thieves - Trip Switch Daniel Johns - Aerial Love Drake - Hotline Bling
after a quick glimpse on Insta it looks like The Trouble With Us looks to be popular. Bit of love for Clearest Blue too. Fire & The Flood, Greek Tragedy and Say My Name getting some attention too. Last edited:

I won't finalise my votes till early Jan but will include love for KingKendrick, Jamie xx, Hermitude and my boys The Wombats to name a few!
Although I loved keeping up to date with this thread last year, the counting of the votes was pretty accurate and I want to keep it as much of a surprise as possible come Aus day! It's been a great year discussing JJJ with everyone, enjoy the next few weeks and the day itself ladies and gentlemen, I'll see you on the 27th Last edited:
My shortlist was 17 songs which is pretty good (for me). Dunno why Nova and the Experience's Whole Body wasn't in the list but then what would I know? The songs that I voted for aren't overly surprising I wouldn't imagine...
Daniel Johns - Cool on Fire Duke Dumont - Ocean Drive Gin Wigmore feat. Suffa & Logic - Willing to Die Jarryd James - Do You Remember Jarryd James - Give Me Something Major Lazer & DJ Snake feat. Mo - Lean On Major Lazer feat. Ellie Goulding & Tarrus Riley - Powerful Nero - The Thrill Sia - Bird Set Free Tame Impala - 'Cause I'm a Man
Shortlisted:
Asta feat. Allday - Dynamite Birds of Tokyo - Anchor Chvrches - Leave a Trace Marcus Marr & Chet Faker - The Trouble With Us Rudimental - Never Let You Go RUFUS - You Were Right The Weeknd - Can't Feel My Face
I hope you post updates Jinx. I enjoyed them last year and I was still surprised in the countdown.
The Spreadsheet on your Twitter confuses me. You have the same song in 3 different columns?
I love Lean On and said I will be surprised if it gets #1 and believe it will make the top 5 but will lose to a Tame song and KK.
Looking good for Downtown not being #1.
Jarryd James isn't doing as well as I would have hoped with votes.
I have my shortlist down to 13 now and will decide on which 10 I vote for based on how your stats are... I would rather see my choices make the countdown so will vote for the songs lower in the countdown than those guaranteed to make it, helps with culling. Plus last year I canned voting for songs that just missed the hottest 100 for songs that were easily going to make the top 20.
@K8: his spreadsheet is his last 3 updates, so the columns on the right are his most recent update (so at 4500 votes counted), the middle columns are after 4000 votes, and the left columns are after 3500 votes, so it shows the changing trends of songs in each 500 'block' of votes counted (I think that's right, someone please tell me if it isn't )
At this point I'm surprised Let It Happen is ahead of The Less I Know The Better, after some others' adamance the latter would be ahead.
I'm delighted with the high positions of Hoops, Magnets and Ocean Drive, as well as numerous others further down Last edited:

@harley, I think it was just me that suggested TLIKTB would be ahead Let It Happen is really surprising me! I know everyone loves it but I wouldn't have picked it as much more popular than say Reflektor, whereas TLIKTB has been Tame Impala's best selling track despite being a post-album single! On Tame Impala, The Moment is comfortably in the top 100 which surprises me more; poor Mark Ronson's similar sounding album is getting very little share of the votes though
Tennis, if it helps cull the artists that have made the hottest 100 before. I find that helps shorten my shortlist. Most of these artists would have established their fanbases and should secure plenty of votes.
Oh I didn't mean the whole thing, but surely you'd agree that The Moment sounds quite a bit like some Uptown Special cuts?
Also @Tennis if it helps, New Americana isn't on the voting list and I haven't seen a vote for it. One of the few things I predicted right is that Hold Me Down is getting most of her votes. Last edited:
I have not counted those votes, same as I did last year
Like A Versions don't seem quite as prominent as last year. The highest are Tuka's (#36) & Childish Gambino's (#54), Gambino of course had a notorious situation last year where Sweatpants was waaay over-represented in my count so I'm not convinced this is different yet. There's also #1 Dads just in the top 100, and Catfish & The Bottlemen/Sticky Fingers/One Day/Gang Of Youths/Bad Dreems in the top 200.
I don't have it completely memorised as to what is and isn't on the list, but my inclination is that the highest is "Higher" which will be eligible next year since it's a December release. It only has 2 votes anyhow so nothing really of note.
I've cut my shortlist from 53 to 29. I'll have another go at shortening it in the morning.

Just saw your latest update on Twitter Hijinx and a few (not many) surprises or maybe just unexpected or underestimated results.
Firstly, Violent Soho doing so well and currently coming in the top 5. I barely even recall this song so am surprised by it's popularity. Could it be a case of local talent and genre of music helping its cause?
Secondly, not sure I was expecting Mangolia to be as popular. I do predict a top 100 finish but wasn't expecting it to be as popular as it is appearing.
Thirdly, The Amity Affliction shouldn't come as a surprise after their success last Hottest 100 but is this because they have a huge fanbase? I didn't think it was an overly played song and nor do I recall seeing it get much attention throughout the year.
Lastly, I know Aussie hip hop is not as represented this year but I hope Tuka makes the countdown with something other than a LAV cover. I saw he is responding to people who vote for him on Insta so I hope this isn't encouraging people to vote for him.
I mean, it's important to note that it's very early days. If the vote count matches last year's, I only have a quarter of a percent as my sample. 10 stray votes can push a song out of the top 100 on my list to around #50, when in actual fact #99 & #100 are probably going to end up more than 10 votes apart, which is why biases show up so strongly here. It's possible all of those are being overestimated by me, but then at the same time it's worth noting that my same system last year underestimated every single Amity Affliction track, and they ended up with 7 or 8 in the top 200. With just 2 tracks in contention (and only one gaining much traction) it is believeable for them to do as well as they appear to be.
Also for what it's worth, Tuka has My Star & Tattoo which have consistently hung around in the top 100 of my count.
I'm going to give the prediction thingy a go... sure I am way off.

San Cisco were in there before, but Snow/Too Much Time Together are splitting a vote hard and now they're both not quite in. Mumfords aren't far off with The Wolf, and I imagine Sia will probably still slip in with how underrepresented she usually is in these .
How come Skrillex & Diplo's track featuring Bieber is excluded from the voting list when both Skrillex & Diplo are featured artists on JJJ?
Can't say it's because the song is too pop of because of the Biebs when Bruno Mars & Ellie Goulding have featured on two pop hits in the last 12 months.
Because triple j never played it. I don't wanna get into another debate about it, but I've found in nearly a decade of listening that I can get a good idea of what they will & won't play, and it doesn't surprise me in the slightest in this instance.
I am currently trying to get my votes down to 10 and am at 18 and am going to change my logic on who I vote for so have a couple of questions for you (sorry to be a pain)... As I am not concerned for what the #1 song will be and as I would rather see my favourites make the countdown can I ask you where some songs are sitting in your latest tallies that are absent from your Twitter updates as I will give my votes to those lingering around the top 100 mark rather than those that are either guaranteed to make it or have no chance of making it.
The songs I need to choose between are: Don't Wanna Fight - Alabama Shakes Foolish - Alpine Anchor - Birds Of Tokyo Electric Love - Borns Omen - Disclosure Dancin John Doe - Drapht The Alley - E^st She's A Witch - Gengahr Forces - Japanese Wallpaper Get Down - Jess Kent I Can't Lose - Mark Ronson Clip My Wings - Montaigne Call My Name - Mosquito COast Painted - MS MR The Thrill - Nero Bodyache - Purity Ring Nightlight - Silversun Pickups Automatic - Zhu
Your updates have helped me cull my list and save me voting for Kendrick, Major, Impala, Jarryd, Duke and my favourite song of the year Vallis Alps (which could still get my vote).
haha, it's not a pain at all Here's where they all are on my latest update
Foolish - #104 Anchor - #263 Electric Love - #342 Omen - #91 Dancin' John Doe - #160 The Alley - #174 She's A Witch - #318 (Fill My Gums With Blood is doing a little better) Forces - #67 Get Down - #176 I Can't Lose - #824 (only just started seeing votes for it today actually) Clip My Wings - #203 Call My Name - #82 Painted - #297 (Criminal is doing a little better) The Thrill - #299 (Two Minds is doing a little better) Bodyache - #159 (Begin Again will likely poll) Nightlight - #189 Automatic - #260 (Working For It will likely poll)
Even if I'm not the biggest fan of them in general (Real Love is not getting topped any time soon), I'm ok with them being in there as it's been such an integral part of the station for the last decade, and if nothing else, the continued success shows that the poll isn't dictated by non-listeners as is often touted.
Tuka's cover is pretty good though, I'm more concerned at a DMA's cover potentially getting in
Florence + The Machine - St. Jude Florence + The Machine - Queen Of Peace Kendrick Lamar - King Kunta Kita Alexander - Like You Want To Lana Del Rey - Music To Watch Boys To M.I.A. - Borders MØ - Kamikaze Tame Impala - Let It Happen Tame Impala - Reality In Motion Tame Impala - The Less I Know The Better
Hijinx, could you please tell me where these 10 songs are sitting in your tallies? Thanks in advance
St. Jude - #316 Queen Of Peace - #135 (Ship To Wreck & Delilah are top 100 atm & What Kind Of Man is #111) King Kunta - #1 Like You Want To - #130 (just barely ahead of My Own Way) Music To Watch Boys To - #354 (High By The Beach is *just* in the top 100) Borders - #827 Kamikaze - #94 Let It Happen - #4 Reality In Motion - #513 The Less I Know The Better - #3
oh and Don't Wanna Fight is #55 which I missed in the previous post Last edited:
I just realised there are 2 versions of Tame Impala's Let It Happen in the voting list. Where does the other one lie in your ranks Hijinx?
Also this weeks chart sees 4 contenders in the Hottest 100 currently in the top 10. Good to see independent artists doing well mainstream. There are a good ten more in the top 50 too so a good 30% of the top 50 is represented on Triple J.
Y'know I had no idea where Georgia was deriving its popularity from. I saw it got played on Double J today, and last night I saw its first ever vote, so probably not much of a chance unless it blows up.
Snakehips I've been anticipating to break on through into the top 100 but they've slowed down a little. They're currently sitting around #120 but I do think they'll make it in. Hoping Chance can get two in as Baby Blue is quite close as well.

Thank you Wow didn't know Doompy Poomp was from last year I thought Lay it all on me would have a good chance because it was a top 10 hit Sad that Anna not in there. Hopefully most Courtney Barnett songs make it in the 100
Where is Downtown at? I seen it a couple of times in your Twitter updates but haven't seen it for awhile, seems to be doing poorly, when some people predicted it top ten
All Day #160, Only One #395 Alive #130, Bird Set Free #405
@martin
Psycho #230, Dead Inside #326, Mercy #375 Exploitation #1526, nothing for the other two
@K8, it's probably only one vote, I think I accidentally highlighted the wrong cell counting a BOO SEEKA vote at the time, I might double check that later if I can be bothered.
Well, I expect they might do a little better than that because the average Muse fan is probably older than the average insta user, but tbh I'm surprised they're that high, coming off the back of their last album which only got a #75 Hottest 100 entry 3 years ago, there's no momentum. And of course, Psycho, Dead Inside, Mercy & Reapers (which is #436) are all splitting their vote.
Was Tuesday by ILoveMakonnen featuring Drake on the voting list last year? I am certain I had it shortlisted to vote for last year but scrapped it and now can't seem to see it on the voting list.
Nah, sadly they left it off both times I can only guess just because they're getting progressively more strict about release dates, and it just hadn't taken off (here) by December last year. Last edited:

Not sure if anyone knows the answer but how come Elastic Heart is not in the voting list for this years Hottest 100 when it was released this year and Sia is a JJJ artist and the song featured in the Hitlist. The version with The Weeknd & Diplo was in the 2013 voting list but if they allowed two versions of Tennis Court and Let It Happen then why is Sia excluded? I believe the same happened with Florence. Her song Spectrum was in the voting list and the following year the Calvin Harris remix was in the voting list.
AlunaGeorge likewise, her song You Know You Like It was in the 2013 list but her version with DJ Snake was excluded from the 2014 list (not that it would have had much of an impact last year) and I guess the dance version of Summertime Sadness by Lana is another one.
Elastic Heart (the solo version) wasn't released in 2015 though. It showed up on her album in 2014, and I guess they didn't see need to include it then because it wasn't one of the more played songs on the album (at the time). The examples you're citing are remixes, this is just the same track with Sia singing The Weeknd's verse.
With AlunaGeorge & Lana Del Rey, I don't think triple j really ever played those remixes, whereas the other ones have gotten decent airplay. Last edited:
Personally I'm disappointed that Years & Years have been snubbed from this year's shortlist, particularly as both "King" and "Shine" were on The Hitlist in the first half of the year. From memory, "Take Shelter" and "Desire" were both on last year's shortlist.
It seems "the powers that may be" have deemed them too commercial now, which I don't understand - over the years there have been plenty of artists that Triple J had first championed who have then crossed over to have mainstream chart success.
Also disappointed that Hot Chip's "Need You Now" didn't get a look in - one of my favourite tracks of the year.
My alternative vote: Drake - Hotline Bling Drake - HotlineBling Drake - H otline Bling Drake - Ho tline Bling Drake - Hot line Bling Drake - Hotl ine Bling Drake - Hotli ne Bling Drake - Hotlin e Bling Drake - Hotline B ling Drake - Hotline Bl ing

Hotline Bling #18 King Kunta #1 The Blacker The Berry #185 Reapers #449 Psycho #236 Innerbloom #140 Shutdown #78 Let It Happen #5 M.O.B. #31 Like Soda #4
I do feel Like Soda may slip back on my estimate. Violent Soho are known for being overestimated and it does feel like it shouldn't be higher than #20. For reference, The Griswolds did a similar thing in my count and they finished at #28.
Downtown will certainly be higher than my count. It's a big hit but at the same time, not one that people will be proudly displaying their vote for (with some exceptions ) because Macklemore is perennially uncool. The Less I Know The Better doesn't surprise me as it's a more recent single, it doesn't go for 7 minutes, and it's been consistently jumping around in the top 200 on iTunes for around 5 months now, making it probably their most popular song now.
The top three you have there seems most likely though I couldn't confidently say what order they'll be in! After that it really feels like a case of unpredictable wildcards, Tame Impala could get in the top 5, but I wouldn't count out Disclosure, Hermitude, Marcus Marr, Drake, The Weeknd etc out either! This feels like the most packed out Hottest 100 with huge songs in years. Last edited:
Generally music in that same vein. Boy & Bear are already pegged to land in my top 100 but they could move into the top 50. Sia I have #130ish on my mark but she is underestimated every single time so she'll probably get in. Mumford & Sons not getting in seems too good to be true too so The Wolf & maybe Ditmas will surpass my #101-#200 estimations.

Hijinx, here is my predicted Top 60ish below in order. Could you please tell me where these songs are currently at in your count for comparison.

I just counted my 25,000th lol. Last year I had over 40,000, but that was the biggest voting turnout ever, so I may actually get a higher proportion this year.
A bit of a mixed back but mostly in ways that can be expected based on prior knowledge of sampling bias. About 85/100 of the top 100 I collected actually got in there, and most pretty close to the predicted mark.
Alison Wonderland - Games Claptone - Puppet Theatre {Ft. Peter Bjorn & John} DJ Snake - Middle {Ft. Bipolar Sunshine} Duke Dumont - Ocean Drive Nero - The Thrill Ngaiire - Once RUFUS - Innerbloom RUFUS - You Were Right Snakehips - All My Friends {Ft. Tinashe/Chance The Rapper} Wafia - Heartburn
Hijinx what songs do you predict will be the big movers - up or down? Downtown is an obvious one to perform better on the big day but possibly not Top 20 after all? What are your thoughts on Young, Magnolia and Like Soda? Do you think they will stay in the Top 20?
@Art4, I think the 3 you highlighted (+Foals) are perhaps the most likely to get pushed out of the top 20 by Macklemore or Vance Joy or something. I also think Major Lazer's Powerful & Be Together will do a lot better than the #159 & #178 I have them sitting at.
@thewitness Pretty Pimpin I have #84. The write-ins aren't overly significant this year (nothing could beat last year after all ), Sufjan is #460, behind Drake & Jack Ü, who aren't really much higher anyway.
Hijinx, how much of a margin is there between the Top 3? I'm surprised that KK is in the lead - it's a great track but it just doesn't "sound" like a JJJ #1 to me. Out of the three of them, I think Hoops sounds the most like a traditional #1. Is there any chance it could take it out, or are KK and LO too far ahead?
Like last year, Peking Duk seemed to be ahead in the social media tallies and with the bookies, but Chet Faker sounded more like a traditional JJJ #1, and sure enough, he was victorious.
I'm also surprised Courtney Barnett is ranked as low as the 30s - I would've thought Pedestrian At Best would've stood a good chance for the Top 20 at least, considering the success she's had both here and internationally this year. Could it be that her demographic is more mature age, and perhaps less social media savvy, thus less likely to be posting their votes on Twitter? Last edited:
I can agree on Chet Faker, but I'd say Hoops doesn't at all feel like a #1, rather another one of those middle carders that randomly took off in a big way. Kind of like how Little Red & Art vs. Science were #2 with what would have been absurd #1s. Lean On feels right at home at #1, I can already imagine the thinkpieces that will suggest everything on triple j sounds like it My guess for #1 is as good as anyone's though. The top 2 margin is more than twice as big as last year, but Major Lazer are getting big late traction and would be prime for being underestimated in my count. King Kunta could do it though; my count underestimated "i" last year after all and it's getting even more votes (per voter) than Peking Duk/Chet Faker last year. But still I think Major Lazer are most likely.
I think with Courtney the fact is just that her vote is split more than anyone else in contention. Add them all together and she's easily in the top 10. Like you though, I couldn't say for sure how her demographic bias would sway. If she's being under-counted, she's a great shot at getting 4 entries in which is never anything to sniff at.
I wouldn't know because I haven't added anything lol. I don't expect anything more drastic to come though. Everything's mostly locked into place except late runners like All My Friends (which is up to #82 now). Things could change on the last day of voting though as people scurry to vote the first 10 things they can think of.
Hijinx any chance you could give us your current predicted Top 30 not just based on the vote count but also your opinion of where songs will end up based on the bias of the count and other factors?
They are eligible in the sense that they were released in 2015, but triple j have only once ever played 21P (Tear In My Heart incidentally) so they're not actually on the voting list. Polarize is the only song of theirs I've seen receive a vote online.
Hijinx, I'm following your Twitter account, good stuff! I'm doing a hottest 100 top ten bet with my mates and it has been very helpful! I was just wondering the places of a few songs I voted for if you could help out that'd be sweet! The kooks - creatures of habit Jai wolf - Indian summer Tourist - holding on Alison wonderland - take it to reality Hermitude - through the roof Santigold - can't get enough of myself Purity ring - bodyache And all of Dillon Francis' songs! Cheers!
Kooks #259 Jai Wolf #120 Tourist #181 Alison #135 Hermitude #126 Santigold #323 Purity Ring #144 Dillon Francis has Bruk Bruk at #210 but the other two (Sun Coming Up & Bun Up The Dance) are around #800 with 4 votes each.
I thought it was interesting that I couldn't vote for 'New Americana'... but it mustn't have been played on JJJ in 2015... or it was a 2014 eligible song...
Anyway, I cut it fine, but my votes are in:
Sia 'Alive' Macklemore & Ryan Lewis & the others 'Downtown' Metric 'The Shade' SAFIA 'Counting Sheep' Jinja Safari 'Find My Way' The Weeknd 'The Hills' Marcus Marr & Chet Faker 'The Trouble With Us' British India 'Suddenly' Hopium 'Right Now' Eves The Behaviour 'Electrical'
So those votes are big hints at my impending EOY chart...
Hijinx, if it's not too much to ask, where do my votes sit on your vote counting?
Only Halsey songs I've heard on the radio this year are Ghost, Hold Me Down & Hurricane.
Alive - #146 Downtown - #39 The Shade - nada Counting Sheep - #63 Find My Way - #965 The Hills - #18 The Trouble With Us - #8 Suddenly - #49 Right Now - #304 Electrical - #191
Just thought I'd check Hijinx, are you planning on posting your final results on here? Sounds like you've still got a lot of counting you want to do, but I'd be interested to see how it's comparing to the Tepid 100's prediction. Sound like you've already got a bigger sample.
Finally remembered to get around to it, so I shat out my (probably mostly irrelevant) votes tonight:

The Hills, Anchor and I'd Go With You Anywhere just missed the cut.

My totally incorrect top 10 prediction 1. King Kunta 2. Hoops 3. The Less I Know The Better 4. Let It Happen 5. Lean On 6. Never Be 7. The Trouble With Us 8. The Buzz 9. Magnets 10. You Were Right
I would have thought Chet Faker's solo effort would have been a definite in the top 100... he must have a decent fan base especially after last years results.
I am also surprised Shutdown isn't more popular. I would have predicted top 50ish.
Hoping for a better than expected placing for Downtown, Leave A Trace, Let It Happen, Loud Places, No One, Some Minds and The Buzz. I'll have my 'Lean On' banner ready.
I think Bend would have gotten in if the Work EP was never released, which really took the attention away from it. It only barely limped into the top 200 on my count at #198, whereas last year the lowest song that actually made the countdown was #164 so it'd be a bit of a stretch to get through.
I just downloaded some of the Courtney Barnett tracks you guys predict to make the top 100 as I have never given them much attention and I have to say I fail to see the hype with her. I hope with multiple entries she does worse than predicted.
just over 2 million votes again so seems the whole Taylor Swift thing didn't make a difference, or it just helped that they closed it off at midday which meant for a longer staggered 'voting about to close' period. By my count, my predicted list has 1 more AU artist than projected, and 3 more debutant artists, though for the latter it's not clear how much some of them count (eg Ratatat, THEY., Tuka)
Diplo & Sleepy Tom - Be Right There Eves The Behavior - Electrical Grimes - Flesh Without Blood Nero - The Thrill Nero - Two Minds SAFIA - Counting Sheep Tame Impala - Let It Happen Tkay Maidza - M.O.B. Weeknd, The - Can't Feel My Face What So Not - Gemini {Ft. George Maple}
In case anyone was wondering, my #1 was The Thrill (highest on my EOY).
