Forum - General: General Discussion - Certifications updates

ARIA won't be able to do much as it's up to record companies to certify singles and / or albums.

I sent a similar list of singles and albums to Warner and Sony a couple of years ago for fun. I didn't get a reply.

Thanks I think you're right on most of the List. It only is the tip of the iceberg on singles.

The Frozen soundtrack alteady is 5x Platinum though

Yeah thats why I originally wanted suggestions and thanks

Also the fact that I Gotta Feeling has the same accreditation as I'm the One and Unforgettable is stupid

They're the ones I disagree with:

The main problem with albums is that I don't know if streams accumulated before May 2017, when the weekly chart started to include streaming, are eligible retrospectively. Nonetheless, I think that the following albums are certified properly and don't need an update as of now:

Divide: 8x Platinum
should be 7x Platinum though given it has just crossed the half million barrier, it may go 8x Platinum once the tour is over)

Moana: 2x Platinum
Trolls: 2x Platinum
Lemonade: 2x Platinum

Both are sitting around in the 90-105k mark. Don't think they've done enough to match the double platinum criteria. Not to mention that Lemonade isn't available on Spotify and Apple Music.

25: 12x Platinum

Has moved 715k units so far. Even factoring streams, it's unlikely to be eligible for even 11x Platinum

Title: 3x Platinum

Has moved 170k units so far. Don't think it's eligible for a3rd platinum award

1989: 9x Platinum

Has sold around 540k units. The album only appeared on Spotify in June. Perhaps eligible for 8x Platinum but not 9x Platinum yet.

Recovery: 5x Platinum

Has moved an estimated 305k units. Even if Eminem is a real streaming force, I doubt it's enough for it to be eligible for 5x Platinum status.

Hips Don’t Lie: 5x Platinum
Hot n Cold: 6x Platinum
I Kissed a Girl: 5x Platinum
Big Girls Don’t Cry: 6x Platinum
So What: 6x Platinum
Sweet About Me: 4x Platinum

In regards to Sweet About Me and Hips Don't Lie, I don't reckon them being particularly huge on iTunes as catalogue sellers. Hips Don't Lie may have done well on streaming. Don't think it's the case for Gabriella. Think they should be 3x Platinum.

Both Katy Perry singles, Big Girls Don't Cry and So What were re-certified in 2013-2014 when digital sales had already started to drop. They all probably have good streams but not enough to be re-certified IMO.

Titanium: 6x Platinum

This song has been a monstruous catalogue seller. Around 570k units sold digitally. Spotify figures on kworb suggest 30k units since August 2014 for charting weeks. Should definitely be 8x Platinum, perhaps even 9x Platinum

Rolling in the Deep: 8x Platinum

Has sold 630k units. probably eligible for 9x Platinum

River: Gold
Candy Paint: Gold
Wolves: Platinum

The first 2 should be Platinum. Wolves should be 2x Platinum

May try to post a list of other uncertified singles and albums.
My feeling is that ARIA wouldn't be able to retroactively apply album streams because the fiddly nature of it means that you can't really calculate it without having the information on hand, and I doubt that they'd have been tracking the week by week streams of (mostly) album tracks. I only wonder about J. Cole's recent certification which is surely very stream-driven, but that hasn't been a factor for very long yet.

By the way, Hips Don't Lie is a pretty good catalogue seller, incidentally the second longest runner on my Bubbling Under catalogue chart that hasn't made the main chart but there's a commendable persistence to that.
Hips Don't Lie isn't too bad as a catalogue seller but I doubt that songs on iTunes sell a lot below the Top 200. I don't think it has sold as much as 150k units since 2007 but who knows.

Perhaps ARIA aren't able to retroactively apply albums streams but record companies probably can do it. That's why Sony has been able to certify J Cole and Zara larsson's albums IMO.

Really interesting!

Never occurred to me that Drake only has two gold albums certified to him, that's insane. Those Muse & Birds of Tokyo certs have bugged me for close to a decade now

Also oddly enough, The Rubens posted about Hoops going Gold so it's odd ARIA haven't updated it https://twitter.com/therubensmusic/status/821963751444201472

Thank you Hijinx for the Nice words

I do remember Auspop mention the gold cert of Hoops last year. It's highly likely That their record company hasn't applied for the cert, which is stupid.

And yep, these Birds of Tokyo and Muse certs have needed an update for years lol.

A bit weird that ARIA haven't updated Shape of You and Castle on the Hill yet
It's up to Warner to apply for new accreditations. Pretty sure they Will for Shape of You once it reaches 11x Plat, which will happen this week. Castle On The Hill ks a bit surprising but there are at least a good 5 Ed tracks That need to be recertified.
I'm guessing we're going to have lots of new certs soon since there's been barely any recently
