Calling "Shotgun" at the No.1 spot again is George Ezra for a fifth straight week at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart.

"Shotgun" is now the equal third longest running No.1 for 2018, tying with the carry-over chart topper from the previous year in "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran alongside "Be Alright" for Dean Lewis (Aug-Sep) both sitting at 5 weeks apiece, while higher tallies were achieved by 5 Seconds of Summer with "Youngblood" (8 wks) and "God's Plan" by Drake (11 wks). "Shotgun" is again the No.1 digital track and No.2 on the streaming chart, plus it holds for a third week atop the New Zealand charts too.

Benny Blanco with Halsey and Khalid log an eighth broken week at their peak of No.2 with "Eastside" (No.1 streamed, No.13 digital), while the two guest acts on that song also have their own solo Top 10 entries this week as Khalid is on hold at No.9 with "Better" and Halsey is up one place from her debut last week to land at a new peak of No.10 performing "Without Me", which is now her first solo Top 10 entry and overall her third Top 10 appearance (The Chainsmokers 'Closer' was her first in 2017).

Moving up one spot to a new peak of No.3 is "Happier" for Marshmello and Bastille, which for both acts is now their highest charted singles in Australia, with the song swapping places with the former No.1 track "Be Alright" for Dean Lewis down a spot to No.4. The next four tracks also do a one place swap around also, with the returning UK No.1 (6th week) "Promises" for Calvin Harris and Sam Smith back up one spot to No.5 and swapping over with "I Love it" for Lil' Pump and Kayne West down one to No.6, and Loud Luxury are up one spot to a new peak of No.7 with "Body", pushing down the returning German No.1 single (11th week at No.1 there) "In My Mind" for Dynoro moving down a place to No.8, and the track is newly certified Gold (●) in sales.

------------------==\/==------------------
Paul Kelly sees his 24th studio album "Nature" become his second successive No.1 on the ARIA Albums Chart this week.

"Nature" becomes the 838th No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2018), the 689th for ARIA (1983 to 2018), the 23rd No.1 album for 2018 and the 480th to debut at No.1 (1976 to 2018), plus the second for Paul's record label 'Gawd Aggie', as back on the 21st of August 2017 he and his label scored their first No.1 album with "Life is Fine" (1 wk at No.1).

Paul Kelly becomes the 20th act this decade to have logged two weeks at No.1 with two albums and the seventh act to achieve that total this year after Vance Joy, Kylie Minogue, Parkway Drive, The Arctic Monkeys, Kanye West and most recently The John Butler Trio. This is the first time that the word 'Nature' has appeared in a No.1 album title (although the group Human Nature has been at the top four times) and this new chart-topping album becomes the tenth by an Australian Act to hit the top spot during 2018, overall this is the 228th Australian Performed No.1 album (solo, duo or group) and also the 235th by a Solo Male Artist (local or overseas).

The returning No.1 album in New Zealand (6th overall week) is on hold here at No.2 in the Eminem set "Kamikaze", while last weeks debut at No.3 for the soundtrack of "A Star is Born" is stable this week in that position, while the set entered at No.1 in both America and Canada this week.

Two further debuts within the Top 5 occur next as Hands Like Houses enter at No.4 with "Anon" their fourth album and now the Canberra based bands second Top 10 entry and highest charted, beating the No.7 entry of their third album "Dissonants" (March 2016) and their third entry overall as they first charted with their second album "Unimagine" (HP-51, July 2013). Following at No.5 is the second album for local country artist (and US based) Morgan Evans with "Things That We Drink to", which by landing at No.5 becomes his first Top 10 album locally and charts fifteen places higher than his self-titled debut set achieved in late March of 2014 (HP-20).

Down a place each are "÷ (Divide)" for Ed Sheeran and "Scorpion" for Drake to No.6 and No.7 respectively, while the 20th Anniversary Edition of the Powderfinger third studio album and first No.1 here (20th Sept, 1998, 1 wk) "Internationalist" returns to the chart at No.8 logging its overall 19th week within the Top 10 and 121st week within the Top 100. Last weeks No.1 entry for twenty one pilots and "Trench" drops down eight places to No.9 while falling three spots to No.10 is the soundtrack for "The Greatest Showman", which should rebound next week thanks to a new expanded and sing-a-long edition of the album just released on Friday.

UP:
* Eminem's "Curtain Call: The Hits" rises three chart rungs to No.21, while other climbing collections are by Queen (GH 37 to 29, Platinum Collection 48 to 44, and the soundtrack for 'Bohemian Rhapsody' came out on Friday so these could climb more over the next few weeks), INXS (52 to 50), ABBA (Gold 57 to 51), Paul Kelly (returns at No.74 thanks to his new No.1 set), Green Day (82 to 75), Cher (stable at No.76), Crowded House (94 to 79), Jason DeRulo (83 to 80), Foo Fighters (returns at No.91) and The Killers (returns at No.95).
* Tony Bennett and Diana Krall jump up nine spots to land at a new peak of No.30 with "Love is Here to Stay".
* Sticky Fingers' album "Caress Your Soul" debuted and peaked at No.39 in mid March of 2013 spending a single week within the Top 50, and now this week it claims its second week within the fifty by jumping up twenty places to No.48.
* Soundtracks climbing back up for 'Black Panther' (56 to 53), 'Suicide Squad' (58 to 55), 'Molly' (66 to 64) and 'Moana' (67 to 65).
* Kendrick Lamar's "Damn" album is back up seven spots to No.62.

In a kind of irony, it’s funny how when Ohysical Singles were on the way out the physical Single chart had all these songs that didn’t make the top 100, and now it’s the digital chart with all these tracks having no impact on the top 100 (this weeks new entries for example). Happened pretty quickly too only 10 years.
Just a year ago too, we sort of had the equivalent to "Don't Stop The Music", where "Despacito" was #1 with enough streams that it could have done it even with 0 sales, which has started happening more regularly.
I wish streams for Without Me, There's No Way and Love Someone were properly counted...
Hey Innocent_Eyes,
If streams for those aren't properly counted, ARIA will likely add the numbers to next week's chart data when they find out about it - which is what they did a couple of weeks back for Calvin Harris & Sam Smith's 'Promises' and Marshmello & Bastille's 'Happier'.

(Also, you forgot to include Ava Max's 'Sweet But Psycho' and French Montana & Drake's 'No Stylist' as songs whose streaming numbers haven't been properly counted. )

There’s been many posts about streams not being counted.

What evidence is gathered to suggest this?
I can answer some of these. A lot of large Spotify playlists include vertical videos. They seem to exist only as a way to heighten exposure and elevate a song's overall presence because they're counted on Spotify's daily charts, but not the actual chart.

This makes perfect sense to me as it is by all means, a music video and if you're going to add that when YouTube isn't included it makes no sense, but it's also a bit absurd because the closely-knit nature of streaming numbers (#20 on Spotify right now is only 4x as high as #200, but on iTunes it's 10x as high as #100) and the effect that these playlists have on the chart make it very easy to manipulate. For instance, the week the new Chainsmokers song came out, it was put right at the top of Hot Hits Australia with a video & the song. In addition to its placement on the AU top 50 playlist when it got there, there was a point where it was sitting around #20 on Australia's Spotify chart but would be at best around #150 if not for the egregious love-in that HHA has been giving The Chainsmokers all year (David Guetta has been getting similar treatment, they're just all about past their peak bro-DJs).

Keeping an eye on these placings is a handy way to rationalise frankly absurd chart movement. Lauv's song debuted at about #120 for New Music Friday, vanished for the weekend, but then got the vertical treatment and was suddenly top 40 in the space of 2 days, no one cares about Lauv that much. Similarly Alesso's recent top 50 hit was very out of place in the top 20 here because of the same treatment. The week it broke into the ARIA top 50 was the week the video was removed, so it actually lost 25% of its streams on Spotify the week it snuck in (and for that matter, the week it peaked on the ARIA Streaming chart).

Halsey is #1 on Spotify right now because of a vertical video. Billie Eilish's new song actually got a fair amount of traction on its own but it may well hit #1 on Spotify as well because of a vertical video. If it seems like the chart is belatedly correcting these, it's because these videos usually only last a few weeks.

Apart from that of course we do have the general muck ups due to lack of care. Ava Max is totally getting most of her chart points because Spotify is desperate to make it a thing but she SHOULD be on the ARIA Chart, just like all those phantom Tyga songs.

(I don't think Love Someone is incorrect though, it's doing REALLY bad on Apple streaming and sales are only ok. It will be slightly underestimated any time it gains streams on a Thursday because it's very clear to me that ARIA aren't counting Thursday streams properly [maybe they shouldn't totally since the time frame for it seem to bleed into Friday morning], apart from that I've not seen anything egregious about it.)

This new info for this week is in bold

I didn't know about those vertical videos. Thanks for explaining Hijinx.

For clarity right now if you can't check, Halsey, Little Mix & Billie Eilish all have vertical videos very high up on Hot Hits AU right now (Little Mix was just added I think, the effect will show tonight). My understanding is that they each equate to ~40-50,000 streams a day.

What's quite interesting about the chart for next week is that I think eastside may be the only song to crack 10K streaming points, but on the flipside, Shallow looks like it could come close to that on digital sales
The video effect has already started to show on Spotify's yesterday chart for Little Mix.

Shotgun and Happier will crack the 10k mark on streaming.

Shallow will do about 8.5-9k on sales and will be #1 overall.
Sorry for posting :p

Not sure Little Mix is showing really just yet. Unless the video was there before Monday and I didn't see it, it only gained 3K on Spotify yesterday which is barely worth considering. Hot Hits AU only updated on Monday morning so it shouldn't see any effect on Tuesday (and even that's hampered since so many people [understandably] don't refresh their playlists immediately). The 30k boost they have week by week is just from being added to playlists a week ago.
According to Herald Sun, paid streams will now have more weight in the ARIA charts than free streams. This Saturday chart will be the first one impacted by these changes. Apparently, ARIA have been running a test chart and tgere hasn't been Much of a difference between this one and the "normal" chart.

All the charts will be impacted by this change. No word whether it will affect accreditations rules. Don't think it will personally.

ARIA have also revealed a new logo. It's rather ugly IMO lol
I actually kinda like the new logo
I'm going to guess that they're adopting the same methodology as the UK charts, 1:100 ratio for paid streams, 1:600 for free streams. Fingers crossed this 'new era' sees more accurate calculation. Only shame is that it makes it harder to predict streaming figures.
I agree with Innocent Eyes, I don't think accreditation rules will be affected at all because they'd be aiming for consistency (changing the rules would, *in my opinion*, mean any singles or albums certified as Gold, Platinum or above then, are inconsistent with what is now certified as Gold or Platinum+).

Also, I love the idea of the new paid streams taking precedent over unpaid streams, it may decrease the dominance of new-fangled mumble rappers, who storm up the charts every week (which is an eyesore to look at).

Hopefully, Australian artists might have a better chance of higher chart positions now (Australian artists in recent times have done much better with digital sales as opposed to streams - e.g Conrad Sewell, Amy Shark, and The Rubens) and the decrease in overall streams for artists such as 6ix9ine will lead to more commercial success for Australian artists.
