Forum - General: Music/Charts related - Spotify - Hot Hits Australia Playlist Update

Considering Spotify effectively controls 99% of the music that charts in Australia or gains radio airplay, I thought it'd be useful to create a forum where members can add the songs each week (or however often that they update it) that have recently been added or removed to the Spotify Hot Hits Australia or Today's Top Hits playlists.

This will be useful so we can see how the playlist directly correlates to what's charting on ARIA at the moment.

Nice idea, I'll post the current list for everyone to start this off

moderately satisfied that tens of thousands of people are going to listen to 7 Minutes 4 minutes after starting 11 Minutes.

I swear they're treating In My Mind as an Australian song because nothing else explains to me how ludicrously precious they're treating it. At least KIAN is still at his chart peak but they really need to move on already.
Thanks @bryc3 for starting us off.

Hopefully updating this can become a regular thing!
'Moderately satisfied that tens of thousands of people are going to listen to 7 Minutes 4 minutes after starting 11 Minutes' >> Very satisfied with that idea. Although I do think it'd be better listening to Madonna and Justin Timberlake's "4 Minutes", followed by a listen of "7 Minutes", and then listening to "11 Minutes". I got so much satisfaction out of writing that sentence

I have wondered why Spotify has stuck with "In My Mind" for a while too Hijinx. Maybe they think that because it samples a classic Aussie house track it somehow makes it Australian?
Either way the 2 minutes and 46 seconds or however long "In My Mind" goes for could easily be replaced by a range of quality Aussie songs.

The best rationale I can come up with is that I think they were slow to adding it in the first place? I remember when it first started climbing the Spotify chart it felt like an international thing that Australia wasn't supposed to hear because the song had already been a hit here before
Mmm, still not too happy that it became a hit anyway... I don't know why they've stuck with it for so long, even if they were slow to catch on with it. It still absolutely annoys me that it peaked higher than the original did
Apologies for not updating this for the past two weeks, I got busy and forgot about it

Feel free to let me know if I've gotten anything wrong (as in un-credited artists or spelling errors).

Personal observations:
> I think Hot Hits Australia have probably given up on making "Lie To Me" a hit because its' streams have been quite poor in recent times
> Methinks that curated playlists, like Australian radio, should have a quota of at least 25% Australian music, it'd certainly help a lot of up-and-coming artists get some mainstream attention. I am aware that there was a sizable amount of quality Aussie music added to this week's playlist but quotas should be made and enforced so that this is consistent week to week.
I kind of think that playlists should go further than 25% quota because people so readily access non-Australian playlists which never is a real concern in the world of radio. It does feel like they do acknowledge it though because you can tell they go out of their way to include AU artists (especially compared to 2 years ago) but yeah they could do better.

Also they should probably move onto KIAN, Hilltop Hoods & Ava Max's new singles

I also find it curious how sometimes they do full song substitutions and sometimes not. Billie Eilish released a new single so they completely removed her 4 week old single for it, but Khalid released a new single and his 4 week old single stayed on.

Could that possibly be due to a label thing? Do they have a say on these playlists?
I think playlists should have a quota of higher than 25% Australian music too; I just felt that 25% was the most realistic for them to achieve. Any higher and they'd probably complain. There's always progress to be made, hey

I reckon there should be a rule that as soon as a song on HHA/TTH playlists crosses a particular sales threshold (platinum, etc.), they should 'drop' the song and let it go on it's own. It would mean we have TONS less of songs staying 20+ weeks in the top 10 purely because playlists have carried them for too long.

I do agree that they should move on to the new singles from KIAN, Hilltop Hoods, and Ava Max; they've held onto "Waiting", "Leave Me Lonely", and "Sweet But Psycho" for long enough now that they're all platinum and double-platinum hits.

In my opinion, "Childism", "Exit Sign", and "So Am I" are all better than "Waiting", "Leave Me Lonely", and "Sweet But Psycho"
(I still wish that "My Way" was Ava Max's breakthrough hit though, it's better than both "Sweet But Psycho" and "So Am I". I'll take comfort in the fact that as Ava's popularity increases, "My Way" may eventually get a gold certification. Key word is eventually because she's signed to Warner )

> Never mind my comments re Lie To Me, they've kept it in this week's HHA update
> I wonder how long it'll take before they add Dynoro's new one "Obsessed" (with Ina Wroldsen) to Hot Hits Australia
And I think labels do have a say on these playlists Antonnalan, however minimal. But I'm not entirely sure.
I will say that sometimes I think they run into a problem of conflicting demand. You and I will think they should definitely move onto these new hits, but the general public would much rather hear these established hits they know and love. They kind of have to walk a balance between established favourites and still budding hits because people kind of need familiarity to coast them along or they won't listen. It's kind of why radio play Maroon 5 and Ed Sheeran so much, because they're a familiar, well-liked brand and usually not abrasive enough to make people change the station.

On the other hand it does really seem like they don't put as much attention into it as I do. They might not even realise they've had 1 song by KIAN entrenched around the top 10 (usually top 5) for literally 8 months straight now. And you can tell they don't cross wires with the ARIA Chart much hence Bene and also the fact that they dropped Robbery for Fast, killing the chart momentum for one song to help...nothing Maybe they just need to look at the Spotify top 200 and realise Exit Sign is sitting around #100 without their help and then realise that a slight push could help it a lot. They did just push Ava's new song into the top 50 after all
