After leaping to No.2 last week the country-rap song for Lil' Nas X featuring Billy Ray Cyrus called "Old Town Road (I Got Horses in the Back)" takes over the top of the ARIA Singles Chart this week and is newly Gold (●) in sales.

"Old Town Road (I Got Horses in the Back)" becomes the 1086th No.1 Song in Australia (1940 to 2019) and the 521st for ARIA (1983 to 2019), plus the sixth chart-topper for 2019 and all of the No.1's this year have also been by American acts, with this the eighth US artists in a row at the top of our charts. The new No.1 is also at the top in New Zealand, America, Ireland (2nd week), England and Canada (1st week also) and it is the 118th No.1 song for the record label Columbia, their last was Mariah's "All I Want for Xmas..." (31st of Dec, 2018).

This is the fourth time that the word 'Old' has appeared at the top (the last one was Dragon with "Are You Old Enough", 2 weeks from 9-Oct-78, prior to which was "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree" by Dawn & Tony Orlando, 7 weeks from 21-May-73, and the first was Lonnie Donegan with 'My Old Man's a Dustman", 2 weeks from 28-May-60). It's the third solo 'Town' (as opposed to 'Downtown', 'Uptown' or 'Funkytown" {whole word}) at No.1 after "Funky Town" for Pseudo Echo (7 weeks from 22-Dec-86, the original by Lipps Inc. spent two weeks at the top in Aug-1980 but was whole word, whereas Pseudo Echo split the words into two), and the first was "Little Town Flirt" by Del Shannon (1 week on 16-Feb-63). It's the second 'Road' at the top after Boyz II Men went to the "End of the Road" (4 weeks from 22-Nov-92), plus it's also the second 'Horses' (after Daryl Braithwaite's version of "The Horses", 2 weeks from 19-May-91) and as for 'Back' this is now the thirteenth appearance at the top for that word, the last was the Gym Class Heroes with "Ass Back Home" (1 week on 5-Mar-2012).

Billy Ray Cyrus now lands his second No.1 song in Australia (even though it as a guest vocalist), having first topped the charts for 7 weeks from early Oct 1992 with "Achy Breaky Heart", which gives him a gap of 26 years and 6 months (roughly) between No.1 berths, giving him, here in Australia, the third longest gap between No.1 songs behind Elvis Presley (32 years, 6 months) and Paul McCartney (37 years back in 2015). For Lil' Nas X he becomes the 193rd Solo U.S.A. Solo Male artist to top the Australian charts, and overall he is the 415th North American artist (solo, duo or group) to hit No.1 here, plus the new chart-topping song is the 699th by an American act.

The No.1 song for the past two weeks in "Bad Guy" for Billie Eilish swaps chart spots with the new chart-topper, and is down one place to No.2, plus it too is newly Gold (●) in sales, while Billie retains a second Top 10 entry this week as "Bury a Friend" is stable at No.8 and also newly certified ▲Platinum. The other act with two songs within the Top 10 this week is the man who will be touring here next week (starts April 26th), Post Malone, who is down two spots to No.6 with "Wow" and holds at No.2 with the years first No.1 song "Sunflower", which logs its 25th week within the Top 10, making it the EQUAL LONGEST TOP 10 RUN in Australian Chart history tying with Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" which had two runs in the Top 10 to rack up its 25 weeks, while Post Malone has spent 25 of his 26 weeks inside the ten, and will most likely log a few more weeks within it thanks to his national tour.

Jonas Brothers' "Sucker" holds at No.3 again this week, while Khalid rises one spot to a new peak of No.4 with his song "Talk", while also up a place to its former peak of No.5 is "3 Nights" for Dominic Fike. Marshmello and CHVRCHES rise a single position, also to a new peak of No.9 with the track "Here With Me", which achieves a Gold (●) sales certification, and this is followed by the highest new entry of the week at No.10 for Korean boy-band BTS who have teamed with Halsey for the song "Boy With Luv", which is taken from their new No.1 album/EP here "Map of the Soul: Persona", and in the process of debuting so high it also becomes their first Top 10 entry here in Australia, while for Halsey this is her fifth Top 10 entry (1 solo and four now as guest artist).

UP:
* Lewis Capaldi lost the top spot in England this week (after 7 weeks at No.1, to Lil' Nas X) with his song "Someone You Loved", which here is up six spots to a new peak of No.13.
* Another recent UK Top 3 song for Mabel and "Don't Call Me Up" jumps up ten spots to land at a new chart height of No.18, and is now Gold (●) in sales.
* Ava Max was back-to-back with herself last week, but this week her new song "So Am I' rises five spots to a new peak of No.22, while her first entry "Sweet But Psycho" is stable at No.26.
* Rebounding six places to No.24 is the 40 week old entry for Benny Blanco with Halsey and Khalid in the song "Eastside", while his newer entry "I Can't Get Enough" is up one spot to No.78.
* The Hilltop Hoods' "Exit Sign" veers up the chart seven spots to a new peak of No.27, while the older entry "Leave Me Lonely" rises one place to No.58.
* Dean Lewis issued the video clips for two songs last week, which both rises a little this week, with "7 Minutes" up one to No.30 and "Stay Awake" rising two spots to No.46.
* Birds of Tokyo and their latest track "Good Lord" jump up fourteen places to a new peak of No.36, their sixth Top 40 placement here.
* The George Ezra former No.1 song "Shotgun" is back up two to No.40 and newly certified 7x▲Platinum in sales, while his other entry "Hold My Girl" (HP-55) is back up four spots to No.67.
* A Boogie wit da Hoodie is up three spots to a new peak of No.41 with "Swervin", which is also the peak achieved by his first entry "Look Back at it", that song leaves the Top 100 this week.
* The three older Billie Eilish entries rise back up this week in "Lovely" with Khalid (45 to 42), "Ocean Eyes" (81 to 79) and "Bellyache" (87 to 86).
* Amy Shark swims up eight places to a new peak of No.52 with "Mess Her Up".
* Alec Benjamin continues his slow rise up the charts (he's been on the chart for 15 weeks now) with "Let Me Down Slowly", this week it claims a new peak of No.56 (up one spot).
* Local artist Tones and I sees her first entry "Johnny Run Away" move up five spots this week to a new chart height of No.59.
* Both Ed Sheeran entries move back up this week as "Perfect" (111 weeks) is up four to No.63 and the again 'Longest Charting Single' in "Shape of You" (119 weeks) is up nine spots to No.77.
* The entry last week for Why Don't We with Macklemore and "I Don't Belong in this Club" is up eight spots to a new peak of No.88.
* The only re-entry this week is at the end of the chart at #100, as Queen return with "Don't Stop Me Now" and their classic first No.1 "Bohemian Rhapsody" is back up four spots to No.65.

DOWN:
* The only song leaving the Top 10 this week is for Billie Eilish as "Wish You Were Gay" (HP-5, WI10-2) drops down five spots to No.14, and is also newly certified Gold (●) in sales. While Billie also tumbles with "When's the Party's Over" (11 to 17, now 2x▲Platinum, half-a-year of charting also), "All the Good Girls Go to Hell" (25 to 37), "My Strange Addiction" (33 to 47), "You Should See Me in a Crown" (36 to 48), "Xanny" (38 to 54), "I Love You" (55 to 70), "Ilomilo" (56 to 71), "Listen Before" (66 to 87) and leaves with "8" (#76).
* Ariana Grande is down a couple of spots to No.15 with "7 Rings", while she falls ten places to No.32 with "Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored" (now ▲Platinum) and last weeks surging track "Monopoly" (21 to 39).
* Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper fall four spots to No.19 with their Oscar winning song "Shallow" while her solo entry "Always Remember Us This Way" drops down seven places to No.98.
* Khalid had plenty of surges last week for his new album, which this week turn back around or drop down, starting with "Better" (17 to 20), and then "Outta My Head" (20 to 21), "My Bad" (14 to 28 and newly Gold (●) in sales), "Saturday Nights" (41 to 49), "Don't Pretend" (61 to 91) and he leaves with "Bad Luck" (#80), "Right Back" (#90) and "Self" (#92).
* The Chainsmokers and 5 Seconds of Summer are down two spots this week to No.25 with "Who Do You Love" which is now ▲Platinum, while The Chains'n are also down with last weeks entry "Kills Your Slowly" (85 to 90).
* Last weeks highest entry for Korean girl-group Blackpink in their song "Kill This Love" drops back this week sixteen spots to No.34.
* Calvin Harris and Rag'N'Bone Man with "Giant" drop down eight spots to No.55, while Calvin's Sam Smith duet "Promises" falls five places to No.82.
* Further entries from last week to fall down (apart from the aforementioned Khalid & Chainsmokers tracks) are "Cool" for Jonas Brothers (54 to 64) and the Tom Walker debut "Just You and I" which leaves from No.97 and is newly Gold (●) in sales, but he performed the song on Fridays (19th of April) screened Graham Norton Show, which falls into next weeks sales period, so the song should rise back up next week.
* The Cardi B and Bruno Mars track "Please Me" falls down ten spots to No.75.

NEW ENTRIES:
* #10 - Boy With Luv by BTS feat. Halsey
* #89 - Make it Right by BTS
* #92 - Mikrokosmos by BTS
* #99 - Home by BTS are all taken from the new EP for the seven-piece Korean boy-band called "Map of the Soul: Persona", and with their six previous entries and these four new ones they have now amassed ten Top 100 entries here in Australia, and now their first ever Top 10 hit in their new entry this week "Boy With Luv".

* #11 - SOS by Avicii feat Aloe Blacc is the first posthumous release for the Swedish artist Avicii (born Tim Berling) who passed away a year ago this weekend (April 20th, 2018), with his family wishing to keep releasing his music and thus his third album called "Tim" is due to be released on June 6th, while this song becomes the first track lifted from that album. Overall this is Avicii's eighteenth Top 100, fourteenth Top 50 and tenth Top 20 entry here in Australia, and is also the second collaboration with Aloe Blacc who was the vocals on his breakout No.1 song "Wake Me Up!" (6 weeks from 8th of July, 2013).

* #68 - Paradise by Bazzi is the third entry here for the man born Andrew Bazzi in Michigan, and this is his first entry this year after previous chart entries "Mine" (HP-11, peaked early March 2018) and "Beautiful" (HP-15, peaked mid-Sept 2019), giving him now three Top 100 entries in Australia.

* #83 - Think of Me by The Veronicas last released their self-titled album in November of 2014, with this new entry the fifth in a row (since 2015) to not feature on any of their albums (hopefully all of them will appear on an un-yet untitled or scheduled fourth studio album). This is the twins eighteenth Top 100 entry locally and their first since "The Only High" reached No.41 in June of 2017.

---------------------==\/==------------------------
BTS land their fourth Top 10 entry and now first No.1 position in Australia as their new seven track EP called "Map of the Soul: Persona" debuts at the top of the ARIA Albums Chart.

"Map of the Soul: Persona" becomes the 846th No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2019), the 697th for ARIA (1983 to 2019), the 486th to debut at No.1, the eighth No.1 album for 2019, and only the second EP to take out the top spot, the other was the Troye Sivan set "Wild" (1 week on 14-Sept-2015), plus it is the first time at the top for the bands record label Big Hit Entertainment.

It's the first time that the either of the words' 'Map' or 'Persona' have appeared in a No.1 album title, but it's the sixth 'Soul' at the summit after "Rubber Soul" for The Beatles (11 weeks from 26-Feb-1966), "Soul Provider" by Michael Bolton (3 weeks from 6-May-90), Jimmy Barnes' "Soul Deep" (3 weeks from 17-Nov-91) "All the Lost Souls" for James Blunt (1 week on 27-Sept-2007), and the last was another Jimmy Barnes set "Soul Searchin'" (1 week on 13-June-2016). BTS are now the first Korean act (solo, duo or group) from either North or South Korea to top the Australian Albums charts, while their new No.1 album is also the 377th performed by a group (local or international) and the third group for this year to hit the top here after Bring Me the Horizon (early Feb) and The Hilltop Hoods (early March). Plus the EP also debuted at the top in both New Zealand and England this week.

After two weeks at the top of both the singles and album charts' Billie Eilish is down a spot to No.2 (on both charts too) with "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?", which in turn pushes down last weeks No.2 entry for Khalid and "Free Spirit" to No.3 (entered at No.1 in both Canada and the U.S.A. this week). Debuting at No.4 is the fifth live album for Australian 60's folk act The Seekers entitled "Farewell", which features 22 of the band's songs, plus it was also issued on DVD at the same time, and by entering so high it becomes their 21st Albums chart entry (9 studios, 4 Live, 6 Greatest Hits, 2 Box Sets) and overall this is their twelfth Top 10 album in Australia, with their last T10 set being their last entry here "The Golden Jubilee Album" (HP10, entered early Dec and peaked in late Dec of 2012).

Queen again have three albums within the Top 10 this week, with their "Greatest Hits" down one spot to No.5, their biopic soundtrack for "Bohemian Rhapsody" is stable at No.6 and spending it's half-a-year anniversary (26 weeks) still inside the Top 10, and then their "Platinum Collection" drops down two spots to No.9. Dean Lewis falls four spots this week to No.7 with "A Place We Knew" (he is doing the 'World Famous Rooftop' next Friday (26th) in Melbourne, so he might not fall out of the Top 10 just yet). Ariana Grande is also down three places to No.8 with "thank u, next" and falling two spots to land at No.10 is the Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper soundtrack for 'A Star is Born" (28th week within the Top 10).

UP:
* The soundtrack for the July 2014 released film 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1' is again on the rise, back up to No.22 this week (215 weeks charted), while Vol.2 moves back up eighteen spots to No.65, with another soundtrack climbing being for "The Greatest Showman: Reimagined" (58 to 54).
* Ariana Grande's "Sweetener" is back up five places to No.28, while she also moves up with her older entry "My Everything" (87 to 80).
* The Maroon 5 "Singles Collection" rebounds ten places this week to No.40, with other rising Best of sets being by Elton John (Diamonds 47 to 42), Queen (GH2 51 to 48), Bon Jovi (81 to 71), Guns N' Roses (84 to 72), Fleetwood Mac (GH 80 to 77) and The Killers (returns at No.85).
* The Presets second and breakout album "Apocalypso" was issued on limited edition coloured vinyl last week (also for Record Store Day too) and it returns this week at No.51 (they also did the same colour vinyl for their debut set "Beams" but that did not return to the Top 100 this week).
* After leaving the Top 100 last week from No.40, the Boogie Wit da Hoodie album "Hoodie SZN" returns this week at No.62.
* Matt Corby's current tour again helps his "Rainbow Valley" set to rise, up four to No.61.
* Nine weeks ago the Bring Me the Horizon album "AMO" debuted at No.1, and now this week after falling continuously for the past eight weeks, it scores its first rise back up the chart, climbing fifteen places to No.73.
* Vance Joy see their first album "Dream Your Life Away" rise back up eighteen places to No.74.
* Thanks to their new EP debuting at No.1, the older BTS album "Love Yourself: Answer" returns to the chart at No.81, with further returns being "Beautiful Trauma" by Pink (#91) and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" for Elton John (#100).
* Florida Georgia Line rebound nine places to No.88 with "Can't Say I Ain't Country", most likely due to a vinyl release of the album last week.

DOWN:
* The two albums leaving the Top 10 this week are for Hilltop Hoods with "The Great Expanse" (HP1x1, WI10-7) down two to No.11 and after returning last week the soundtrack to 'The Great Showman' (HP-1x8, WI10-65a) drops back down two places to No.12.
* Dua Lipa and her self-titled album moves down five places to No.23.

Just gonna ask in here: Has anyone looked at the Australian iTunes charts lately? (On sites like Popvortex or iTunesCharts that provides accurate updated listings) What is with these random influxes of no-name artists with cheap-looking artwork from time to time? I've never seen this many. And they all appear to have entered at the same time. I know the iTunes charts are pretty slow these days what with streaming booming but I legitimately don't believe there are droves of people out there buying cheap-looking albums by "Fecilia Joyce", "Chelsey Watson", "Brenda Elle", "Davies Brayden", a bunch of Vietnamese names like "Tuyển Tập", "Nguyễn Hữu Thành" and so on, over the amount of people who would be buying Bananarama and the Rolling Stones' new albums. Someone out there is fixing the charts.
And I can't find any social media presence or info on these people that would indicate how they're in the charts and how anyone knows about them enough to buy their stuff. So I don't think they're legitimately even real singers at all.
Wow, I’ve never seen anything like that. I’m sure it hasn’t taken many purchases to get there, but it sure seems dodgy.
fwiw, Dong Lan was a semi-finalist on The Voice in Vietnam, so she's not like Nick Voss tier , but yeah this happens a bit for reasons I cannot fathom, and it'll probably get worse with iTunes sales going down.
iTunes sales are so low that it might be those acts' families and friends buying their albums in support

This or it might be a glitch.

Fingers crossed for "Old Town Road"!!!

If "Old Town Road" does in fact go #1 this week (it's definitely looking very likely), will it be the shortest number one we've ever had in Australia?

Otherwise, I imagine "Crazy Frog" would be somewhat close to holding the title of shortest #1 in Australia.
I believe the shortest #1 goes to Johnny O'Keefe's "Own True Self" which was alongside "She's My Baby" in 1960, it's like 1:48

Highest weeks sales so far this year (for what I have records for, starting Feb 18th), beating the previous best of 21720+ for "7 Rings" by Ariana (18-Feb).

And highest weekly streaming figures ever if I'm not wrong.

It is quite strange that Vance Joy's record company decided to label Riptide as God Loves You When You're Dancing EP nearly six years after its release lol.
They did it once back in 2013 as well iirc, before it became a top 50 hit.
The streaming figure for the #4 album, painfully funny
NofZ, because The Seekers (#4 entry this) has a mainly 60's fanbase, who are also in their 60's+, would make them more of a physical selling act (CD or DVD bonus edition) rather than a digital one, unless some kid is doing the download for nanna!!
Those lucky two nannas with those kids that can do the streaming thingo!!
Given the streaming ratio, it's anywhere between 200 and 1800 (most likely around 500) full streams of the album
