"Old Town Road" for rapper Lil' Nas X with country singer Billy Ray Cyrus holds for a ninth broken week at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart, plus the song is now 5x▲Platinum in sales.

The nine weeks at No.1 for "Old Town Road" is the longest berth since "God's Plan" by Drake held for eleven straight weeks from the start of February until mid-April in 2018, and Lil' Nas X and Billy Ray's chart topper now surpasses both "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran and "Youngblood" for 5 Seconds of Summer which logged eight weeks at the summit in Australia.

"Old Town Road" is now one of five songs this decade which has spent nine weeks at No.1 here, the others were "Sexy and I Know it" for LMFAO (2011), "Roar" by Katy Perry (2013), "Que Sera" by Justice Crew (2014) and "Closer" by The Chainsmokers feat. Halsey (2016). If "Old Town Road" stays again next week it will tie with only one other 10-week running No.1 this decade (the other LMFAO #1 song), while the "Old Town Road" song also remains at the top in New Zealand, America (11 weeks), Canada (10 weeks) and both of the digital and streaming local charts too. Plus Billy Ray Cyrus's tally of weeks at No.1 rises to sixteen weeks from his two chart-topping appearances (1992 & 2019) moving him from 57th to now equal 51st on the list for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Singles 1940 to 2019' alongside 1974's two-hit-wonders Paper Lace (two No.1 with 16 weeks at the top).

The Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber track "I Don't Care" is at the top in both England and Ireland for a sixth week, while here it is spending its fifth week at No.2 (it spent one week at No.1 upon debut six weeks ago), plus Ed is down one spot to No.6 with his second Top 10 entry this week in "Cross Me" with Chance the Rapper and PnB Rock. I mentioned last week a new Taylor Swift single dropping called "You Need to Calm Down", which this week debuts at No.3, eight weeks after she debuted at No.2 with "ME!" (TW-22), both tracks taken from her just announced seventh album "Lover" (due August 23rd), and this new Top 10 debut becomes her eighteenth Top 10 single in Australia, plus her twelfth Top 3 track too. And with Taylor debuting so high, she has pushed down three songs one place apiece, with former No.1 song "Bad Guy" for Billie Eilish moving to No.4, "Someone You Loved" for Lewis Capaldi to No.5 and the previously noted "Cross Me" for Ed Sheeran to No.6.

Scoring his fourteenth Top 10 single this week is Chris Brown who was last weeks highest new entry with "No Guidance" featuring Drake, which jumps up ten places to a new peak of No.7, while it also becomes the thirteenth Top 10 song for the Canadian rapper Drake, who this week debuts with two new tracks too. The remainder of the Top 10 are all down two spots each in "If I Can't Have You" by Shawn Mendes, "Never Really Over" by Katy Perry and "Sucker" by Jonas Brothers" to numbers 8, 9 and 10 respectively.

UP:
* MeduZa with Goodboys could land themselves all a Top 10 spot next week as "Piece of Your Heart" rises three places this week to a new peak of No.11.
* Taylor Swift's new entry at No.3 pulls her eight week old entry "ME!" back up four places to No.22.
* OneRepublic's "Rescue Me" is the week up three spots to a new chart height of No.27.
* Last week Guy Sebastian leapt up 58 places with "Choir", which this week rises five to a new peak of No.33.
* Tones and I last week had two Top 50 entries, this week that margin decreases to two Top 40 berths, as she is down one spot to No.13 with "Johnny Run Away" (newly Gold (●) in sales), while her newer entry "Dance Monkey" swings up six places to a new peak of No.37.
* The Billie Eilish and Khalid duet "Lovely" rebounds five spots to No.52, while Billie re-enters at No.94 with her album track "I Love You" (HP-20).
* Andy Grammer continues his climb with "Don't Give Up on Me", which this week is up seven places to new height of No.62.
* Bulleting back up twenty-six places to No.70 is the Calum Scott track "You Are the Reason".
* Polo G with Lil' TJay and "Pop Out" sees a third successive rise, this week up nine spots to No.73.

DOWN:
* The two songs leaving the Top 10 this week are "3 Nights" (HP-3, WI10-14) for Dominic Fike, down five to No.15 and "SOS" (HP-7, WI10-8) for Avicii with Aloe Blacc which drops seven spots to No.16, while Avicii's debut from last week and "Heaven" drops down three spots to No.23.
* Post Malone moves away from the Top 10 with "Sunflower" (31 weeks in total within T10) and is down three spots to No.14, while he also drops with "Wow." (22 to 24), "Better Now" (76 to 83), "I Fall Apart" (87 to 95) and "Rockstar" (89 to 97).
* Tyler, the Creator and his former and first Top 10 entry "Earfquake" is down five places to No.18, but is now Gold (●) in sales.
* Khalid is down to No.20 with "Talk", while he also slides with his other entries in "Better" (42 to 49) and leaves with "Saturday Nights" (newly 2x▲Platinum).
* Miley's "Mother's Daughter" peaked at No.21 last week and is down four this week to No.25.
* With a new entry this week for Mabel, her first entry here "Don't Call Me Up" drops seven spots to No.32.
* Halsey's "Nightmare" drop continues, this week it is down seven places to No.34, while her 37 week old entry "Without Me" descends four to No.56.
* The Hilltop Hoods fall seven places to No.36 with "Exit Sign", and their previous single "Leave Me Lonely" falls eight spots to No.91.
* Birds of Tokyo and their song "Good Lord" is down eight places to No.39.
* After a slow rise to No.34 last week with "Vossi Bop", this week Stormzy's first entry here falls six spots to No.40.
* Dropping Billie Eilish tracks this week include "When the Party's Over" (36 to 41), "Bury a Friend" (37 to 44), "Wish You Were Gay" (61 to 71) and "Ocean Eyes" (86 to 99).
* Amy Shark swims down eight places to No.47 with "Mess Her Up".
* Ariana Grande has NO songs within the Top 50 this week as her last No.1 song "7 Rings" is this week down six places to No.53, and she is also down to just two songs within the Top 100, as her other former No.1 entry "thank u, next" is down one spot to No.81.
* Ama Max also has NO Top 50 entries this week as her second single "So Am I" plummets fourteen places this week to No.54, while her former and only Top 10 entry "Sweet But Psycho" drops five places to No.58.
* Martin Garrix with Macklemore and Patrick Stump of Fall Out Boy drop down eight places to No.59 with their collaborative track "Summer Days".
* DJ Khaled drops down nine places to No.65 with his only chart entry "Just Us" featuring SZA.
* Bazzi's "Paradise" declines fourteen spots this week to drop to No.72.
* There were two entries last week in which Chris Brown was either singing or being a guest vocalist, his lead track climbed into the Top 10, while his guest feature drops in the Tyga track "Haute" (50 to 78).
* James Arthur was so close to scoring a Top 50 entry a few weeks ago with "Falling Like the Stars" (HP-51), this week the song descends seventeen places to land at No.82.
* The 'Longest Charted Single' is again "Shape of You" for Ed Sheeran at 128 weeks within the Top 100, the song dropping seven places this week to No.84. It has only ever been as low as No.87 on the 13th and 27th of May this year.
* After a triumphant return to the chart last week at a new peak of No.44, this week the Luke Combs track "Beer Never Broke My Heart" drops like an empty schooner and plummets forty-one spots to No.85.
* The Logic and Eminem collaboration "Homicide" falls twenty places this week to No.87.
* Both sides of the 1972 single for Elton John drop down this week in "Rocket Man" (79 to 88) and Tiny Dancer" (85 to 93).

* #31 - Let You Know by Flume with London Grammar is the fourteenth Top 100 entry for the local EDM artist who earlier this year hit No.72 with "Friends" (8th of April), while for London Grammar this is only their third entry here (two as lead, now this one as guest).

-----------------------==\/==---------------------
In the battle for No.1 this week between Madonna and Bruce Springsteen, The Boss beats Madame X with his new nineteenth studio album "Western Stars", becoming the fourth chart-topping album here for Bruce Springsteen.

"Western Stars" becomes the 850th No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2019), the 701st for ARIA (1983 to 2019), the 490th to debut at No.1 (since the first in 1976), the twelfth No.1 for 2019 and the 44th chart topper for the Sony record label Columbia (their last was the self-titled debut album for Harry Styles on 22nd of May, 2017). The set also landed at No.1 in New Zealand, England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany and Norway (so far).

Bruce Springsteen's monster 1984 album "Born in the U.S.A." initially hit the top for a single week on the 22nd of October of that year, and then it spent a further two weeks at the top in the last two weeks of February, 1985, and when he toured Australia in April of 1985 the set also logged a further five weeks at the summit, giving it eight weeks at No.1. Bruce's first collection of singles in his "Greatest Hits" album debuted and spent a single week at the top on the 12th of March, 1995, after which his third No.1 wouldn't be for another 18 1/2 years when "High Hopes" spent a single week at the top on the 27th of January, 2014. So now his fourth No.1 here occurs with his nineteenth studio album "Western Stars".

Bruce is now one of nineteen other artists who have also had four No.1 albums in Australia like ABBA, Dire Straits, Midnight Oil, Billy Joel, Cold Chisel, Robbie Williams, INXS, Hilltop Hoods, 1D, Lana Del Ray, Taylor Swift and John Butler Trio amongst them. His tally of weeks at No.1 now rises to eleven weeks, moving him up on the list for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Albums (1965 to 2019) from 71st to now 57th (11 weeks from 4 #1's), ahead of other eleven weeks tallies by Australian Crawl, Eurythmics, Men at Work, Joe Cocker and Alanis Morissette (all 11 weeks from two #1's). While Bruce has now landed his second No.1 for this decade, he now joins the list for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: 2010's Albums' and is one of 21 other acts who have notched up two No.1s and two weeks at No.1 this decade.

This is the first time that the word 'Western' has appeared at No.1 in an album title, while it's the fifth 'Stars' at the top, the last being The Hilltop Hoods with "Drinking from the Sun, Walking Under Stars, Restrung" (1 week on 29th February, 2016). Bruce's new No.1 album is also the 299th by an American Artist (solo, duo, group, male or female) and the first by a Solo American Artist since Eminem's Sept. 2018 "Kamikaze", while for Solo Male Artists (local or overseas) this is the 239th overall plus the fourth this year (the other three were by Dean Lewis, Conrad Sewell and Jimmy Barnes). This is the 31st albums chart entry for Bruce (19th studios, 4 live, 8 Best of's) and also the 20th Top 10 album too.

Madonna's fourteenth studio album called "Madame X" debuts at No.2 this week in Australia, becoming her first non-No.1-debut since 2003's "American Life" debuted and peaked at No.3 (last week of April). ALL 14 of Madonna's studio albums have now hit the Top 10 in Australia, from her first self-titled set in 1984 (HP-10) through to now, plus she has also had a further six Top 10 sets (2 soundtracks, 4 GH's) taking her total to 20 Top 10 albums in Australia. The new album has yet to take out the No.1 spot in any country, mainly debuting at No.2 behind Bruce's new album.

After a fifth week at No.1 last week the Billie Eilish debut album "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?" is down two places to No.3, while stable are "Diamonds" for Elton John and "Hurts 2B Human" for P!nk at No.4 and No.5 respectively.

Jimmy Barnes' recent No.1 set "My Criminal Record" drops down four places to No.6, while rising back up three spots to No.7 is the second Khalid album "Free Spirit". The two current soundtracks sitting in the Top 10 are for 'Aladdin' at No.8 (down one spot) and "Rocketman" at No.10 (down two places). Debuting in between those two sets at No.9 is the first album from local singer Hayden James called "Between Us" which features his three previous chart entries in "Numb" (HP-48, peaked for two weeks in late February of 2018), his highest charting single "Just Friends" (HP-26, peaked mid-June of 2018, charted for 27 weeks) and "Better Together" (HP-63 for two weeks in late Jan and early Feb of 2019).

UP:
* Ariana Grande is back up three spots to No.16 with "thank u, next" and up four to No.53 with her previous album "Sweetener", while she also returns to the chart with "Dangerous Woman" (#94) and "My Everything" (#96).
* Both entries for Hilltop Hoods rise in their latest album "The Great Expanse" (28 to 24) and their "Drinking...Walking...Restrung" set (62 to 55).
* With three new songs for Drake on the singles chart this week, his "Scorpion" set is back up three to No.26.
* "?" for XXXTentacion jumps back up six spots to No.35.
* ONCE AGAIN with a new Taylor Swift track debuting high her older albums rebound back into the Top 50 this week, with "Reputation" up twenty-one spots to No.38 and her 243 weeks running "1989" is up eleven places to No.43.
* INXS' "Very Best of" is up to No.39 this week, with further rising collections being for Maroon 5 (56 to 47), Queen (Platinum Collection 83 to 68), Missy Higgins (86 to 84) and Green Day (re-enters at No.86).

* #1 (LP#19) - Western Stars by Bruce Springsteen

* #2 (LP#14) - Madame X by Madonna

* #9 (LP#1) - Between Us by Hayden James

* #13 (LP#8) - Spark by Amber Lawrence is the eighth studio album for the local country singer, who last charted in August of 2017 alongside Travis Collins for "Our Backyard" (HP-40), which at the time was her highest charted and fourth Top 50 album, but this new set becomes her highest charted album by coming in at No.13, plus overall this is her fifth Top 50 and Top 100 entry.

* #21 (LP#3) - Doom Days by Bastille is the UK bands third album and entry here, and continues their double-letter album titles after "Bad Blood" (HP-10, peaked late August 2013) and "Wild World" (HP-7, debuted and peaked 19th-Sept, 2016). The album has so far landed in the Top 10 in England (#4), Belgium (#5), Scotland (#6), The Netherlands (#8) and Germany (#9).

* #52 (LP#5) - Gold and Grey by Baroness is the fifth album for the Georgia (U.S.A.) heavy metal band and continues their colour-themed album titles, as they previously charted with their fourth album "Purple" (HP-64, December 2015), which was their only other chart entry here, while they have also had "Red" (LP#1, 2007), "Blue" (LP#2, 2009) and "Yellow & Green" (LP#3, 2012). This second entry is now their highest charted too.

Anyone think Madonna will go #1 this week? I'm gonna predict you'll still see Billie Ellish at the top with low sales,under 5000. When was madonna's last #1 album anyway? Was it 'confessions on a dance floor?'
Hard Candy, MDNA an Rebel Heart all went to #1. Her last studio album to miss the top spot was American Life the album before Confessions on a Dance Floor.
I reckon Bruce has this locked down, he just debuted at #1 in NZ to Madonna's #5 as well.
Yep. Bruce will likely be #1 tomorrow.

I was not expecting The Git Up to be so high already; I hadn't realised it's top 10 on iTunes Unusual to have hit there faster than Spotify when it's clearly tapping the Old Town Road appeal.

Ouch low figures for madonna and even low figures for bruce as well. Not selling like he used to.
Is anyone selling like they use to?
Insanely low figures for both Bruce and Madonna, but as BillyBrett noted, no one sells like they used to.

Madonna will debut at #1 in the US next week (this has all but been confirmed). It's ironic that she's missed the top in Australia yet will make it in the US, since she had a string of #1 albums in Australia from 1990 to 1998, none of which reached #1 in the US (most peaked at #2).
Yep. Albums sales have dropped a lot for everyone.

Nice to see the new Joji single debut top 50
It will be interesting to see how many countries madonna hits number 1 in with this album. It'll be declared a success solely based on it's going number 1 in the U.S even though she hit #2 here and in the uk which is one of her biggest markets.
It should absolutely be declared a success, since debuting at #2 is far from failing. Globally, the album is actually performing on par with Erotica back in 1992 and Bedtime Stories back in 1994 (which only hit #1 in Australia, yet no one was calling it a "flop" back then). It's quite remarkable that in dozens of countries in the world this week, the Top 2 spots on the albums chart are occupied by a pair of sexagenarians. Universal and Sony should have coordinated their schedules to allow both of them the chance to have a #1 album in multiple countries.
I don't know if debuting positions should be compared between the 90s and the late 10s given they're now way way more frontloaded than they used to be 25-30 years ago. Now albums debut much higher but also fall harder in second week

I don't see anything wrong at all with comparing debut positions in the 90s and the late 10s, since albums tended to debut at their peak position then as well. The 80s were a completely different story, though. In any case, if we can't compare peak positions on the charts between across decades, how can we compare performance? The point I was making was that it's difficult to describe an album that peaks at #2 in most countries a "flop". If peaking at #2 is flopping, how do we describe an album that misses the Top 10/40/50/100? If Madonna had debuted at #1 and Bruce at #2, would people be trying to claim that he had "flopped"? I doubt it.
Debut positions can't be compared between the 90s and 10s because sales are much more frontloaded than they used to be 20-30 years ago. With the internet, all people know the exact release date of an album and no longer have to wait to go into a record store to buy a LP.

You cannot compare performances just with peak positions. You have to take into account record companies' expectations with shipments, the full chart run of an album, the artist's previous performances with their previous LPs.
