DISCUSSION FORUM
Forum - Other Charts: Australia - Non ARIA - Triple J Hottest 100 2019 - Voting & Predictions

Hi all!

So we are coming down to the pointy end of 2019 - already - and so now is the time where we all have a say in voting for which tracks and albums are the best of the year.
Voting for tracks opened on Monday (9 Dec), and voting for albums closes THIS SUNDAY (15th Dec) - so hurry and get your votes in!

Anyway, this thread is for posting all of your votes, hot tips, predictions and, if desired, a general overview on how your year has been in a musical sense - highlights, lowlights, surprises, all that jazz.

Hope to see you all around for EOY season, as well as for that fateful weekend in January
MY ALBUM VOTES for 2020

Angel Olsen - All Mirrors
Big Thief - U.F.O.F.
Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
Kevin Abstract - Arizona Baby
Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell!
Mansionair - Shadowboxer
Solange - When I Get Home
Ty Segall - First Taste (write-in)
Tyler, The Creator - IGOR
Vampire Weekend - Father Of The Bride
As they only allowed room for 1 write-in I didn't fill my full quota of votes. There weren't enough albums on the list that I thought worthy.

I voted for:
Beck - Hyperspace
Catfish & The Bottlemen - The Balance
Liam Gallagher - Why Me? Why Not? (write-in)
Polish Club - Iguana
Sampa The Great - The Return
The Black Keys - "Let's Rock"
The Cat Empire - Stolen Diamonds
Thelma Plum - Better In Black
Thornhill - The Dark Pool
I voted for these I think (was last week and didn't get a confirmation email to check):

Angel Olsen - All Mirrors
Big Thief - U.F.O.F.
Big Thief - Two Hands
Helado Negro - This Is How You Smile
Julia Jacklin - Crushing
Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell!
The National - I Am Easy To Find
Ride - This Is Not A Safe Place
Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow
Vampire Weekend - Father Of The Bride

Album voting closes this Sunday so get your votes in! https://www.abc.net.au/triplej/programs/kingsmill/triple-j-2019-album-poll-vote-now/11685612

also my votes (4 of my 6 or 7 favourite albums this year would have had to be write-ins so don't read into this much ):

Cherry Glazerr - Stuffed & Ready
Danny Brown - uknowhatimsayin¿
Denzel Curry - ZUU
Fat White Family - Serfs Up!
Flume - Hi This Is Flume
FONTAINES D.C. - Dogrel
James Blake - Assume Form
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Infest The Rats' Nest
PUP - Morbid Stuff
Stella Donnelly - Beware of the Dogs
I have been fairly lazy with 2019 listening so I'm just going to give myself a half vote rather than stuff it with relative filler that may well be worthy, but I haven't given much time of the day to. So I just voted for

FKA twigs - MAGDALENE
Little Simz - Grey Area
Olympia - Flamingo
PUP - Morbid Stuff
Tyler, The Creator - IGOR
my album poll vote:

Broods - Don't Feed The Pop Monster
Charly Bliss - Young Enough
Clairo - Immunity
FKA twigs - MAGDALENE
Hatchie - Keepsake
Jay Som - Anak Ko
Methyl Ethel - Triage
Polish Club - Iguana

My first time voting in the album poll! I was pleasantly surprised to find so many of my favourites of this year on the list

Broods - Don't Feed the Pop Monster
Caroline Polachek - Pang
Charli XCX - Charli
Cub Sport - Cub Sport
FKA twigs - MAGDALENE
Julia Jacklin - Crushing
King Princess - Cheap Queen
Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell!
Mark Ronson - Late Night Feelings
Stella Donnelly - Beware of the Dogs

I found it really difficult to decide on my last two albums of the ten (which were Mark & Stella) but the rest were all essential inclusions for me, with either Pang or Crushing being my #1 in the absence of [s]thank u, next[/s] MUNA's album I think! Lots of other worthy picks in Cherry Glazerr, Clairo, Danny, Hatchie, Jay Som, Little Simz, Shura, Thelma and Tyler's albums too though.
Will be posting the results of the album poll here as they're being revealed.

1. Billie Eilish - When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
2. G Flip - About Us
3. Thelma Plum - Better In Blak
4. Tyler, The Creator - IGOR
5. Holy Holy - My Own Pool Of Light
6. Stella Donnelly - Beware Of The Dogs
7. Catfish & The Bottlemen - The Balance
8. Lana Del Rey - Norman Fucking Rockwell!
9. Hilltop Hoods - The Great Expanse
10. Angie McMahon - Salt
11. BROCKHAMPTON - Ginger
12. Flume - Hi This Is Flume {Mixtape}
13. Methyl Ethel - Triage
14. Rex Orange County - Pony
15. WAAX - Big Grief
16. Maggie Rogers - Heard It In A Past Life
17. Cub Sport - Cub Sport
18. King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Infest The Rats' Nest
19. Hayden James - Between Us
20. Foals - Part 1: Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost

had a bit of a mishap with my shortlist which was initially 11 songs, accidentally left WAAX - FU out of it which is my most played song this year.
Is it just me or was this year a more quieter year in music? Doesn't feel like many big tunes came out like previous years. I can't even get to 10 songs (I am sure I will with a bit of effort) and I haven't voted for popular artists in the likes of Billie or Tones. One of my votes is for a Of Monsters And Men song. Are the two females the two front runners for 1st and 2nd or is some Aussie act like Dean Lewis gonna be a surprise win? Good to see Sofi Tukker getting some lovin, I did like their music this year.
Billie Eilish — bad guy
Birds Of Tokyo — Good Lord
Dean Lewis — Stay Awake
Flume — Rushing Back {Ft. Vera Blue}
Gerard Way — Hazy Shade of Winter {Ft. Ray Toro}
G Flip — Drink Too Much

Shawn Wasabi — SNACK {Ft. Raychel jay}

Only three write-ins this year
Just a gentle reminder that I ask for no spoilers based on systematic vote counting algorithms (you know which sites I'm talking about) whatsoever. This includes any vague insights if you've looked at them (eg 'I'm surprised x is doing so well/so poorly) as well as betting odds because they're inevitably influenced by it as well. If you wish to discuss them, keep any information locked behind links, or encrypted in some manner.
Put my votes in today.

Hottest 100 of the 2010s, just announced to take place in March.
Ooh that sounds cool! I'll be broadcasting my 2010s list in March as well.
Actually while I'm here, since the countdown for 2019 is only 2 days away - now is probably a good a time as any to get the predictions happening!

I won't do a full Top 10 - but I think 1, 50, 69, 100 and 101 should be okay.

1. bad guy - Billie Eilish
50. Not Angry Anymore - Thelma Plum
69. Daisy - Pond
100. Norman Fucking Rockwell - Lana Del Rey
101. I THINK - Tyler, The Creator.

Yeah, I know they're all songs from my countdown, but I can dream,, can't I?
1. bad guy - Billie Eilish
50. Welcome To The Black Parade (LAV) - Alex Lahey
69. It Might Be Time - Tame Impala
100. Old Man - Stella Donnelly
101. Resolution - SAFIA
Hey guys, looks like it's time for my annual peak in site involvement

Anyway, here's the top 10 I settled on with the clock running down. Only two songs which others have voted for by the looks of it.

Ali Barter - Ur A Piece Of Shit
Amyl And The Sniffers - Got You
Bakers Eddy - Can't Afford It
The Chats - Pub Feed
HAIM - Summer Girl
Jack River - Adolescent
Mallrat & Basenji - Nobody's Home (#1 vote)
PUP - Kids
SCABZ - Feel Good Summer
Stormzy - Vossi Bop

Other "not so short"-listed songs
billie eilish - all the good girls go to hell
billie eilish - bad guy
Caroline Polachek - So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings
The Chats - Identity Theft
Coda Conduct (feat. Nyxen) - The Monologue
DZ Deathrays - Snakes
DZ Deathrays - IN-TO-IT
FIDLAR - By Myself
I Know Leopard - Heather
Joji - Sanctuary
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Planet B
Last Dinosaurs - FMU
Luca Brasi - Tangled; Content
Mac Demarco - Nobody
Mid City - Fake Friends Forever
The Murlocs - Comfort Zone
Northeast Party House - Magnify
Olympia - Come Back
Polish Club - Breakapart
Rex Orange County - 10/10
Sløtface - Telepathetic
Slowly Slowly - Jellyfish
Stonefield - Sleep
Tia Gostelow - Get To It
Tierra Whack - Unemployed
Ziggy Alberts - Intentions (22)

Press Club, The Smith Street Band, Violent Soho and WAAX all surprisingly not in my top considerations this year. I probably just haven't heard them enough for one song to stick in my head well enough.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Predictions

1. Tones And I - Dance Monkey
50. Stella Donnelly - Die
69. DZ Deathrays - IN-TO-IT
100. I Know Leopard - Heather
101. King Princess - Ain't Together

I got a couple of these close last year without doing any research, not expecting that to happen again.

PS: I was putting off checking this topic for a little while just to be sure I avoided any of the spoilers. Glad to see that has been kept intact

Historic Year is either a LAV #1 or solo female. Cranberries, Gotye and Flume had female vocals but weren't solo artists. That's my prediction. I also believe females will dominate this years countdown which could be a first.
