Singles Chartifacts:

An unprecedented 20th week at No.1 occurs this week for the worldwide smash single "Dance Monkey" for Tones and I with the song now 7x▲Platinum in sales, plus the tune also creates a new record at the top of the UK's charts too.

"Dance Monkey" and its twentieth week at the top here is helped slightly this week by the fact that the song is being used in the TV promo's for the 2020 season of 'Dancing with the Stars' on Ch.10, while Toni is also benefitting from her four ARIA Award wins from a few weeks ago and her February headlining of the Laneway Festival around Australia, prior to which she starts the new year with three shows in New Zealand.

The big overseas news this week for the track "Dance Monkey" is its eleventh week at the summit in England, making the song now the longest running No.1 by a female artist ever on the UK singles chart, beating the ten weeks achieved by Whitney's "I Will Always Love You" cover and Rihanna's "Umbrella", but with their Christmas chart week occurring in the next week there is a strong push for charity and classic seasonal tunes to take over the top spot next week. "Dance Monkey" remains again at No.1 overseas in Switzerland (13th week), Belgium (12th week), The Netherlands (also 11th week), Portugal (4th week) and in both Bulgaria and Canada (3rd week), while it sits at No.2 in Austria, France, New Zealand and Denmark, No.3 in Norway (after 16 broken weeks at No.1) and Germany, No.4 in Sweden and Finland, while it dips two places to No.13 in America after peaking last week at No.11 (so far).

Making a challenge here for the top spot is the current Dua Lipa track "Don't Start Now", which is up one spot to a new peak of No.2, matching the peak of her previously highest charted track in "New Rules" (peaked for 2 weeks in late Sept., 2017), with Dua swapping places with last weeks No.2 song "Roxanne" for Arizona Zervas which falls down one to No.3 and is newly Gold (●) in sales and logging a fifth week at No.1 in New Zealand. The next two songs are also former No.2 peaking songs which also swap places from last week in "Memories" for Maroon 5 (5 to No.4) and "Circles" for Post Malone (4 to No.5).

Holding at No.6 and landing a 2x▲Platinum in sales certification is Regard's remix of "Ride it" which is followed by a new peak of No.7 for the second Tones and I Top 10 entry "Never Seen the Rain", up one spot from last week. Also back up one spot to No.8 is the Lizzo track "Good as Hell" and down two places to No.9 is the current Billie Eilish Top 10 hit "everything i wanted" which is followed by a rebounding Lewis Capaldi debut single of "Someone You Loved" back up seven spots to No.10 for a sixth Top 10 appearance and a 21st week within the T10.

UP:
* Christmas climbers this week start with last years final No.1 song in "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey, up nine spots to No.11, followed by Wham! and "Last Christmas" up eight places top No.30 and Michael Buble's returning and new-peaking entry "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" rises six places to a new peak of No.38, while there is a new entry from Taylor Swift and returning tracks at No.81 in "Santa Tell Me" for Ariana Grande and "Do They Know it's Christmas?" for Band Aid 30 at No.89.
* Several digital streaming platforms announced their most played and streamed tracks of 2019 and this has resulted in a surge of this past years hits rebounding this week, which is a large majority of this weeks rising tracks. Starting with the Lewis Capaldi track returning to the Top 10, it is then followed by "Bad Guy" for Billie Eilish (22 to No.12), "Senorita" by Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello (25 to No.17), "Old Town Road" for Lil' Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus (29 to No.18), "Sunflower" for Post Malone (36 to No.21), "I Don't Care" for Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber (32 to No.27), "Eastside" by Benny Blanco (45 to No.34), "Ran$om" by Lil' Tecca (58 to No.42), "Wow" by Post Malone (80 to No.47), "3 Nights" by Dominic Fike (76 to No.53), "Without Me" by Halsey (98 to No.54), "Better" for Khalid (78 to No.55), "Shotgun" for George Ezra (70 to No.58), "7 Rings" and "thank u, next" for Ariana Grande at No.60 and No.92 respectively, "Woke Up Late" by Drax Project feat. Hailee Steinfeld (85 to No.63), "Happier" by Marshmello & Bastille (84 to No.65), "Talk" by Khalid (77 to No.66 and now 4x▲Platinum in sales), "Body" by Loud Luxury (90 to No.71), "Sicko Mode" for Travis Scott and Drake (91 to No.72), "Sucker" for the Jonas Brothers (86 to No.75), "When the Party's Over" by Billie Eilish (96 to No.76), "Confidence" by Ocean Alley (re-entry at No.86), "Dancing with a Stranger" by Sam Smith and Normani (re-entry at No.94) and "Sweet But Psycho" by Ava Max (returns at No.95).
* Last weeks second entry for The Weeknd and "Blinding Lights" is up three places this week to a new peak of No.13.
* This past week 21 year old U.S. rapper and singer Juice WRLD passed away from a suspected overdose and seizures, which brings six tracks of his back into the Top 100 this week, the highest of which is his only Top 10 entry here "Ludic Dreams" (HP-8, July 2018) at No.16, followed by a resurgence for his current entry "Bandit", up a massive forty-eight places to land at a new peak of No.45 (former peak was #47), with his third and final Top 50 entry in "Robbery" (HP-41) back into the Top 100 at No.49. He also has two new entries in the lower reaches of the chart and his appearance on the Ellie Goulding track "Hate Me" (former peak #78) also returning at a new peak of No.68.
* The second MuduZa track "Lose Control" loses two places this week and is down to No.15, while their first entry "Piece of Your Heart" regains two spots to No.31 and is newly certified 4x▲Platinum in sales.
* Lizzo rebounds six places to No.40 with her first entry "Truth Hurts".
* Stormzy just released his new album on Friday called "Heavy is the Head" and the albums current single "Own it" featuring Ed Sheeran debuted at No.55 three weeks ago, fell to No.72 last week and is back up ten places this week to No.62.
* Two more of last weeks new entries to score new peaks this week are "No Idea" for Don Toliver (94 to No.78) and "Sorry" for Joel Corry (87 to No.83).

DOWN:
* The only song leaving the Top 10 this week is last weeks highest new entry in The Weeknd track "Heartless" (HP-10, WI10-1) which falls down fourteen places to No.24, but does jump to No.1 in the U.S.A this week.
* Dan + Shay with Justin Bieber and "10,000 Hours" falls eight spots to No.20.
* Ed Sheeran's "South of the Border" is now south of the Top 20 as it drops seven places to No.22, with his other sliding tracks being "Beautiful People" (27 to No.28), "Perfect" (88 to No.93, No.1 this week in 2017) and the "Longest Charted Single' in "Shape of You" (88 to No.93 in its 153rd week within the Top 100, 3 weeks away from its third year on the chart).
* Selena Gomez left the Top 10 with a one place drop last week for "Lose You to Love Me", but this week the track tumbles down fourteen places to No.25, while her other entry "Look at Her Now" leaves the Top 100 from No.67.
* The Flume and Vera Blue track "Rushing Back" falls eleven places this week to No.29.
* Harry Styles issued his second album "Fine Line" on Friday, so expect the first two tracks to climb back up next week, but for this week "Watermelon Wine" is down four to No.32 and "Lights Up" drops eleven places to No.52, but he does also have the highest new entry this week too.
* The Travis Scott song "Highest in the Room" drops down twelve places to No.33.
* Freya Ridings suffers a nine place slide to No.35 with her first entry "Castles".
* Halsey drops down seven to No.37 with her "Graveyard" track.
* Taylor Swift's "Lover" descends sixteen spots to No.39.
* The collaboration between SHAED and Zayn on "Trampoline" bounces down ten spots to No.44.
* Khalid's latest entry "Up all Night" tumbles down thirteen places to No.50.
* 5SOS bear their "Teeth" track at No.51 this week, down twelve spots from last week, while they are stable at No.59 with their 87 week old entry "Youngblood".
* Ant Saunders sees his "Yellow Heart" cower down sixteen places this week to No.56.
* Miley Cyrus has slid way down with her track "Slide Away", dropping fifteen places to No.69, while her sister Noah Cyrus plummets twenty-eight spots to No.91 with her track "July".

* The Martin Garrix and Dean Lewis teaming on "Used to Love" falls thirty-eight spots this week down to No.88.
* After two weeks at a peak of No.62 the Tyga cover for "AYY Macarena" tumbles down thirty-seven spots this week to land at No.99.
* The Kanye West entry "Follow God" is the highest dropout of the week, leaving the entire Top 100 from No.49, followed closely by a No.51 departure for "Mean it" by Lauv and Lany.

NEW ENTRIES:
* #14 - Adore You by Harry Styles is the third track and third Top 20 entry from the Friday issued (13th of Dec, 2019) second album for the former One Direction member called "Fine Line", which could become his second No.1 album next week, and follows on from "Watermelon Wine" (HP-20, TW-32) and "Lights Up" (HP-7, TW-52), overall becoming his sixth Top 100 entry.

Albums Chartifacts:

It's been 21+ years since Cold Chisel graced the top of the Australian Albums Chart, but this week their ninth studio album "Blood Moon" becomes their fifth overall No.1 album locally.

"Blood Moon" for Cold Chisel is now the 863rd No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2019), the 713th for ARIA (1983 to 2019), the 502nd to debut at No.1 (since the first in 1976), the first ever for their self-titled record label and their fifth overall after "Swingshift" (2 weeks from 13-April, 1981), "Circus Animals" (1 week on 10-May, 1982), "Twentieth Century" (1 week on 23-April, 1984) and "Last Wave of Summer" (1 week on 19-October, 1998), making it now a 21 year and two months gap between No.1 albums, and placing them second behind INXS's 23.5 years between #1's as the second Aussie placed act on the list for 'Longest Gap between No.1 albums' (on that overall list C.C. are now placed ninth, the leader with 42.10 years are Queen)

Cold Chisel have now racked up six overall weeks from five No.1 albums in their chart career (their last two albums both debuted and peaked at No.2), and that moves them up to now equal 104th with AC/DC (6 weeks from 5 #1's) on the listing for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Albums' and on the 'Overall No.1 Albums' listing they move up to now equal eighth along last weeks climber Robbie Williams plus Taylor Swift, Kasey Chambers, ON-J, AC/DC, Crowded House, Powderfinger and Silverchair as all scoring five No.1 albums in Australia. The big hope is that CC will hold on for a second week at the top, as NONE of their studio albums have ever lasted more than a single week at No.1 (their two week stay was with a live album), but the new Harry Styles album was issued on Friday and could remove them from the top next week.

It's quite a unique feat that both Cold Chisel and their solo lead singer Jimmy Barnes have hit No.1 this year, Jimmy did it back in June with "My Criminal Record" (TW-59) and the last time that they were both #1 in the same year was back in 1984 with the bands last studio album (at the time, "20th Century", April 1984) and Jimmy's debut album "Bodyswerve" (2 weeks from 8th of October, 1984). The other feat that Cold Chisel racks up this week is the gap between first and latest/last No.1 albums, as they had their first with the live album "Swingshift" in April of 1981, and now 38.8 years later they land at the top again, becoming the biggest gap between first and last No.1 albums for an Australian act (ON-J is next with 36.4 years), and on the overall artists listing for this field, the band are only third behind The Rolling Stones (51.1 years 1965 to 2016) and Queen (1976 to Jan 2019, 42.10 years).

The albums title "Blood Moon" makes it the fourth time that the word 'Blood' has been spilled at the top of the album charts titles, previously it was with "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magick" for Red Hot Chili Peppers (2 weeks from 26-April, 1992), "A Rush of Blood to the Head" for Coldplay (1 week on 2-Sept, 2002) and the last was for the 5 Seconds of Summer third album "Youngblood" (1 week on 25-June, 2018). As for the 'Moon' its only in it's third appearance at the summit after the first for The Whitlams in "Torch the Moon" (1 week on 29-July, 2002) and the last was for Lana Del Rey with "Honeymoon" (1 week on 28-Sept., 2015). The new No.1 album is also the 236th by an Australian act to hit the top and the eighth for 2019, plus only the second Aussie group this year to hit the top, the other being The Hilltop Hoods back in early March, while for groups (local or overseas) this is the 381st No.1 album by them.

After a single week on top the Robbie Williams seasonal set "The Christmas Present" is back down one spot to its original entry position from the three weeks ago of No.2, which is closely followed by the first ever festive No.1 set in the Michael Buble "Christmas" set, up three places to No.3 and landing its 55th week within the Top 10 during this decade.

The soundtrack for the film "Frozen 2" went to No.1 in America this week, but here it drops back down two places to No.4, which in turn pushes down The Paul Kelly collection "Songs from the South: Greatest Hits 1985-2019" to fall only one place to No.5. The second and final new Top 10 debut this week is the second album for Camila Cabello called "Romance", which debuts at No.6 and lands three places lower than her semi-self-titled debut set "Camila" (Jan 2018), with this new set already landing five Top 100 entries so far including the No.1 single duet with Shawn Mendes in "Senorita" (TW-17).

After leaping to a new peak of No.3 last week, this week the Human Nature collection "Still Telling Everybody: 30 Years of Hits" falls back down four places to No.7, while returning to the Top 10 after leaving for the first time last week is the debut set for Billie Eilish called "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?", back up four spots to No.8 for a 36th week inside the Top 10, which is then followed by the Tones and I EP "The Kids are Alright" (5 to No.9) and the lowest position so far for the fourth Ed Sheeran album "No.6 Collaborations Project" (7 to No.10) in its 22nd week within the T10.

* The two older Post Malone albums also drop down this week in "Beerbongs & Bentleys" (32 to No.37) and "Stoney" (70 to No.80).

Of the four live albums to have charted here for Kylie, this is now her highest charted, beating the No.28 peak of both her first ("Intimate & Live", 1998) and fourth live albums ("Showgirl: Homecoming Live", 2007).

* #50 (LP#1) - LP1 by Liam Payne is the debut album from the former One Direction member, making him now the fourth member of the five piece to issue a solo album (still waiting for Louis) and with no major single charting from the album at the moment, its No.50 entry position is quite low compared to the other solo members output (although the second Zayn album this time last year failed to chart very well too), while Harry's second album was just issued on Friday. * #55 (V/A) - The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo Sydney 2019: At All Points of the Compass (live) by Various Artists was held in Sydney in October of 2019, and broadcast on TV this past week, thus this years multi-racial event makes its entry, with the 2010 60th Anniversary edition also held in Sydney spending seven weeks at No.1 on the DVD chart.

Recorded by the two members of Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey separately, the albums cover artwork was done by Peter Blake who did The Beatles' "Sgt. Peppers" album and The Who's "Face Dances" (1981).

* #74 (LPE1) - Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial by Roddy Ricch is the debut album for the Compton, L.A., California born rapper, full name Rodrick Wayne Moore Jr., who first made waves with his debut mixtape "Feed Tha Streets" in 2018 and has worked with acts such as A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Marshmello, Meek Mill, Future, Young Thug, Mustard and Ty Dolla Sign.

Hi Everyone

I've got so much on my mind regarding the Charts. I've been following since 1996.
I understand that as time goes by there are different trends & the way music is consumed will change.
With these changes the Official Chart will also change.

So as a dedicated Chart follower & music consumer I should just follow the current trend.

There's been countless conversations regarding Streaming as the way to move forward & it's inclusion is vital.
I Disagree.

Regardless of the format, Record, Compact Disc, Tape, Digital File the consumption was always present. The Official Chart was measuring the success of the hard earned $'s being spent on music.
When streaming was included myself & others who have been glued to the charts for extended period of time predicted what would occur.
To date those predictions have been correct.

The Official Charts actual "Sales" are the lowest they have ever been.
Measuring a song's popularity based on the quantity of times it's listened to is pointless. That option could have been considered say if a purchase format was still dominant & radio figures were included with rules & regulations rolled out with it's inclusion.

It's never too late to reverse the current situation because after all the music belongs to the artist.
You can argue to your blue in the face that Streaming has made it better to measure a songs true success. It's not though...
Lets look at Christmas songs in particular. December is the only month where they really make an impact. The streams are from the same accounts as the previous year.
You're essentially just re-counting a previous sale and saying it contributes to the newest weeks chart.
Tones & I - Dance Monkey is no doubt an actual global hit. If actual purchases were the main way of calculating a chart the song would have struggled to maintain it's position.
If you analyse the data you can actually see that from week to week the same sales (streams) are the same. It can be seen in with a song continuously being at the same position or moving up & down the chart with others released or placed on the same playlist without edit.
This week we see the majority of top 10 peaking songs in 2019 still present in the chart.
Previously the month of December was reserved for the rollout of a lot of new material as Christmas has arrived. This month along with January are redundant due to Christmas tunes & best of lists being shown.
We've seen the longest top 10 single, the longest number one & we're about to see Shape Of You accumulate three years in the chart.
The end of year charts are also going to be impacted. Earlier the release more likely for that song to out rank others released later in the year.
The answer to the problem is actually in the past. However obtaining someone's blood, sweat & tears for a tiny price is too great to resolve the dilemma.

I'll continue to show my support of the Official Top 100 countdown regardless of what curveball is thrown it's way.
I purchase music across all formats & listen, speak & love what charts as long as it can make the consumer feel joy.

I try not to get too involved in debates like this as like the full moon they tend to come back around fairly regularly,i will say the thing i thought was flawed with streaming is that there's no accurate way to track the sales of a song. With a service such as spotify you pay for the service, not the song. People here wiser than me have said it better in the past, yes it needs to be full songs and not just a snippet to count as a sale but at least australia doesn't include views on youtube into sales yet(unless we do,i don't exactly keep up)
Well said NateBoi, a bit too kind I think though. The Australian singles chart is just a block of cheese now, new material/artists suffer and are denied exposure due to WTF "algorithms" are these days from the conglomerates that have assumed even more power now through a severe lack of competition - it makes the chart feel undemocratic and whitewashed. Very hard to take it seriously at all these days because we will see half the songs charting this week still chart next year.

And "allowing" Christmas songs to chart during a time when people are bombarded to spend based on a chestnut fairytale isn't rorting the system even more? ARIA are just as complicit as the record companies these days, keep the market undiluted so record companies don't have to invest in growing the market, just keep the same shit popular and keep the masses uncultured while the productivity dives and profits flow in.

Jesse77: youtube views are counted assuming the record company reports it

Any questions for this week?
Streaming figures for singles look suspiciously low compared to the past few weeks. I wonder if Spotify's thursday data was included given it only came on Saturday.

On better news, it looks like Trevor Daniel will finally be included as Falling is expected to enter the Top 15 accorded to ARIA midweeks.
Appetite for Destruction should be listed as 110 last week. I didn't think Roxette's singles would be that high as they weren't charting very high on spotify but nice to see them make the album top 40
Hi Innocent Eyes,

I was about to say the same thing, still no BENEE "Glitter" mentioned though. It's sitting within the Top 40 Streaming Chart according to this Spotify playlist below. That one seems to be the only other big anomaly.

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/65CaGckWpDrV6YRCcjFvjt?
The absurdity of it is highlighted further by the fact that Soaked got a 'new peak' this week, a rebound driven by its 2019 success that according to our official charts never happened (although they did give BENEE a platinum plaque recently).

By the way I'm pretty sure ARIA never get Thursday's data? The chart is already added up on Friday afternoon (recently I saw them accidentally tweet out a chart position then which they forgot to schedule first). I'm not sure what they do to estimate it though, but it always looks a bit wrong for midweek climbs (Kanye's inaccurate totals last year come to mind with his album not actually released on Friday).

Perhaps they do some extrapolation for thursday based on the previous days'results? Or maybe Spotify provides them information before they make it publicly available through their daily chart but I highly doubt it.

I know that's what the OCC does, but ARIA have never made any mention of it that I know, which for transparency is kind of annoying.

The other elephant in the room is that Spotify's daily charts don't actually line up with streams of that day (though given Australia has like 5 time zones right now, how could you :p), the latest chart posted (16/12/2019) actually covers roughly from 9:00am 16/12 to 9:00am 17/12. Hence Juice WRLD had a big rebound on the 08/12/2019 chart even though it was already the 9th of December everywhere but in WA when the news broke, and we've also seen Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, and recently Harry Styles chart their album tracks on the Thursday before the official release.

So who knows what data actually goes into the ARIA Chart.
Compared to last week's streams, I don't think that the lower numbers are linked to data missing for thursday after all. Dance Monkey's ARIA streaming figures have dropped by 24% even though it seemed to perform similarly on Spotify compared to the previous week.

Don't know what happened and I can't be bothered finding an explanation.
Ah, I didn't realise just how drastic the shift is.

At a long shot, given that this was the Spotify wrapped week, it could be possible that a lot of non-premium users were driving the streams (I can't rationalise a reason, but it's clear that it's an anomalous week already) which would sharply decline the chart points. Or maybe ARIA just adjusted the formula without telling anyone. As always, I guess we'll have a clearer picture next week.
bulion - Jessica Mauboy has released a video for 'Selfish' now, so could you please report if/when it reaches the top 500. Thanks.
The streaming figures were down last week due to the influx of people playing and listening to their best of 2019 and the compiled best of 2019 listings, thus the mainstream (non-Best of 2019 titles) all dropped in streaming figures.

The only question I saw above (other than fixing #99 on the LP chart, thanks Jesse77) is about Benee's "Glitter" (#33 on streaming {LW-55}, #46 on the video chart {LW-87})
Hi, I’ve been able to successfully access this thread but not others.
Has the maintenance for this site been abandoned?

It’s been progressively been getting worse and entry times threads are now forbidden.

Help...
I can't seem to get into half of the threads either... the search field, last nights' chart I got directly from ARIA as this wasn't working. Is there a new link? or something? Thanks
I think most of the Hung Medien sites are having issues right now. I've been trying to add links to single chart trajectory pages here on wikipedia for the last day or two, and all of them come up with a server error... though I can still search an artist's chart history. The same thing is happening on lescharts.com, charts.nz and others. The Belgian (Flemish) site (ultratop.be/nl) worked for me still, though.
There was a server migration that happened a few days ago, shortly after that I noticed every time a thread got a new post, that thread would become complete inaccessible.

I think that's fixed now (can someone name a thread that right now, they can't open, to prove me wrong :p), but yes, it seems like individual pages for any charting single are broken at the moment.

Things seem to be working normally again re: individual release pages.
