Singles Chartifacts:
Australian has its first new No.1 song since the start of August 2019, as this week Canadian artist The Weeknd scores his first ever chart-topping song here with "Blinding Lights".

"Blinding Lights" becomes the 1090th No.1 single in Australia since January 1940 (80 years ago), the 525th for the ARIA Singles Chart (1983 to 2020) and the first new No.1 for this year and this new decade. It also becomes the twelfth Chart-topping single for the record label Republic, their last was exactly a year ago when "7 Rings" for Ariana Grande (28-Jan-2019) began a five week reign at the top in Australia (the label also holds the top of both the singles and albums chart here too).

It's the first time that the word 'Blinding' (or even 'blind') has appeared in a No.1 song title (the last 'blinding' to chart was U2's "City of Blinding Lights" HP-31, June 2005), and the eighth with 'Light(s)' sparkling within its title, the last being the Evermore song "Light Surrounding You" almost this week thirteen years ago (22-Jan-2007, 1 week). The Weeknd is now the ninth Canadian Solo Male Artist to hit the top in Australia since the first Guy Lombardo did so in May of 1950, while Shawn Mendes was the last in late July of 2019. He's also now the sixteenth Canadian act to hit the top here and the song is the 31st performed by an Canadian Artist (solo, duo, group, male or female). {BTW, only two Canadian Groups have ever hit No.1 here in The Crew Cuts in 1954 and The Irish Rovers in 1968}.

Tones and I falls back down to No.2 with her 'Longest Running No.1' single "Dance Monkey", also logging a 29th week within the Top 10 (2nd longest of all time), with the song still sitting at the top overseas in only Switzerland (19th week), Portugal (11th week) and Bulgaria (10th week), while it's at No.2 in Belgium, Austria and drops from the top spot in Canada. Toni also has a return at No.10 with her second Top 10 entry (so far) in "Never Seen the Rain", which is back up one spot to No.10 and is newly certified 3x▲Platinum in sales. And with the Triple J Hottest 100 occurring this Australia-Day long-weekend, high placed positions for Tones and I's songs could push them back up next week.

Eminem surprised the world last week with his eleventh studio album called "Music to Be Murdered by" which lands at No.1 this week, with fifteen of the twenty tracks on the album chart within the Top 100 this week, one of which lands at No.3 here (debuted at No.1 in both England and Ireland) called "Godzilla" with recently passed rapper Juice WRLD as guest vocalist. By entering so high the song becomes Em's 25th Top 10 single and also his thirteenth Top 3 hit since his first ten-entry occurred in 2000 with "Stan" hitting No.1 (he had four Top 40 entries prior to his first Top 10 berth). Juice WRLD also now lands his highest placed single and his second Top 10 entry, as he previously peaked at No.8 with "Lucid Dreams" (TW-84).

Dua Lipa's song "Don't Start Now" is pushed down a place to No.4 due to the high entry for Eminem and the current U.S.A. No.1 single (2nd week) and new Canadian chart-topper (1st week) is "The Box" for rapper Roddy Ricch, which here is up two places to a new peak of No.5, which in turn pushes the new Justin Bieber single "Yummy" down two spots to No.6, the song holding for a second week at the summit in New Zealand too. Post Malone is spending his 21st week within the Top 10 with his track "Circles"(the equal 8th longest of all time), after which is the song "Roxanne" for Arizona Zervis, the pair both down two places to No.7 and No.8 respectively, while there's a single place slip to No.9 for the Maroon 5 song "Memories", now logging a sixteenth week inside the Top 10, one week shy of their 17 weeks for "Girls Like You" in 2018 and three weeks away from their longest at 19 weeks for "Moves Like Jagger" (2011).

UP:
* Debuting at No.2 in America this week is last weeks entry for Future and Drake called "Life is Good", which here climbs four places from its entry position last week to a new peak of No.11.
* With the third Halsey album debuting at No.2 this week, it helps pull up her entry from last week "You Should Be Sad" from No.41 to a new peak of No.15, while she also rebounds with her older entry "Without Me" (96 to No.67).
* Brockhampton sees their track "Sugar" climb two spots to a new peak of No.19, plus the track is also newly certified Gold (●) in sales.
* The No.1 album from last week in the Selena Gomez set "Rare" sees its title track rise a spot this week to a new chart height of No.22.
* Mac Miller is the third act this week with a Top 3 album debut, as his first posthumous release "Circles" places two new entries on the charts, while last weeks debut for him in "Good News" this week flies up seventeen places to land at a new peak of No.27, becoming his highest charting song in Australia in the process.
* Holding its peak position of No.29 is the Benee single "Glitter", while right after it at No.30 and returning to that peak is the Sam Feldt song "Post Malone", up two places this week.
* Another of last weeks new entries to climb this week is the Khalid song "Eleven", which jumps up twenty-one spot to a new peak of No.48, becoming his 24th Top 50 placing (13 as lead, eleven as guest vocalist).
* Two more of the newbies from last week are "Say So" for Doja Cat, up three spots to a new peak of No.55, and staying put at its entry point from last week is "If the World Was Ending" for JP Saxe & Julia Michaels at No.97.

DOWN:
* Two songs leave the Top 10 this week, "Ride it" (HP-3x3, WI10-14) for Regard is down four spots to No.13, and recent touring act here in Lizzo with "Good as Hell" (HP-6, WI10-9a) drops eight places to No.18 and it scores a ▲Platinum sales cert, while her other entry "Truth Hurts" falls nineteen spots to No.71, that song is newly 3x▲Platinum in sales.
* Harry Styles is down to only two entries this week in "Adore You" (13 to No.14) and "Watermelon Wine" (27 to No.35), while former bandmate Zayn along with SHAED and their track "Trampoline" drops ten spots to No.47.
* Billie Eilish drops down three places each with "everthing i wanted" and "Bad Guy" to No.20 and No.21 respectively, while she plummets with "When the Party's Over" (78 to No.99).
* Ed Sheeran has two songs within the Top 30 this week, one a new entry with Eminem, while his track "South of the Border" with Camila Cabello and Cardi B is down four to No.28 and now ▲Platinum in sales, while he also slips down with "I Don't Care" (38 to No.50), "Beautiful People" (42 to No.52, now 3x▲Platinum in sales), on the Stormzy track "Own it" (49 to No.63) and he departs from the Top 100 with "Perfect" (#1 this week in 2018, 148 weeks on the chart) and "Shape of You" (#1 this week in 2017, 156 weeks on the chart, the all time leader).
* Not only does Camila drop down on the Ed track, she is also dropping with her solo entry "My Oh My" (25 to No.26) and on the Shawn Mendes duet "Senorita" (31 to No.41).
* After a new-album boost last week the Selena Gomez track "Lose You to Love Me" drops back down eleven spots to No.31.
* Travis Scott and his track "Highest in the Room" falls down twelve places to No.38, his only entry this week.
* All three Justin Bieber entries drop down this week, none more so than his Dan + Shay collaboration in "10,000 Hours" (30 to No.42).
* The No.1 single for 2019 in "Old Town Road" for Lil' Nas X with Billy Ray Cyrus falls nine spots to No.43.
* Also falling nine spots to No.44 is Freya Ridings and her track "Castles".
* The Riton x Oliver Heldens track infused with Yazoo's "Don't Go" called "Turn Me On" is down six places to No.45 and newly certified Gold (●) in sales.
* Post Malone is down to only two entries of his own tracks within the Top 100 this week, as his former No.1 song "Sunflower" is down nine spots to No.49.
* Rapper Don Toliver debuts on a new Eminem track this week, while his current chart entry "No Idea" drops eight spots to No.54.
* MeduZa's first entry "Piece of Your Heart" tumbles twelve spots to No.57, as too does "The Reaper" by The Chainsmokers and Amy Shark to No.60.
* Joel Corry's track "Sorry" slides down eleven places to No.58.
* The Rubens peaked last week at No.54 with "Live in Life", which this week drops down eight to No.62.
* After two weeks of sitting at No.63 the DaBaby track "Bop" falls back down fourteen spots to No.77.
* With the departure of two long running Ed Sheeran tracks (again, he did drop out when the Xmas rush happened in late December) the crown for 'Longest Charting Single' goes again to the 5 Seconds of Summer former No.1 song "Youngblood", which drops down this week twelve places to No.78 in its 93rd week within the Top 100, while the boys also see their track "Teeth" plummet twenty-three spots to No.95.

Albums Chartifacts:
The eleventh studio album for Eminem called "Music to Be Murdered by" was a surprise release last Friday and this week it claims the No.1 spot on the ARIA Albums Chart, becoming his eleventh chart-topping album here (9 studios, 1 soundtrack and 1 best of).

"Music to Be Murdered by" is the 866th No.1 Album in Australia (1965 to 2020), the 716th for ARIA (1983 to 2020), the 505th to debut at No.1 (1976 to 2020), the third No.1 album of 2020 and the 33rd for the record label Interscope, whose last was only last week for Selena Gomez, meaning that this is the first time since 2015 that two Interscope artists have taken over from each other, previously it occurred in March 2015 for Madonna (Rebel Heart, 1 week on 16-March, 2015) which was taken over the following week by the album "To Pimp a Butterfly" for Kendrick Lamar (1 week on 23-March, 2015), while another Interscope act in The Weeknd is the No.1 singles act this week. The album enters at No.1 in both England (where he has both No.1's for single and album) and New Zealand.

This is now the eleventh No.1 album for Eminem and his ninth for a studio album since he first topped the charts for a single week on March 5th, 2001 with "The Marshall Mathers LP". Eminem is now the equal third artist with the 'Most No.1 Albums' alongside the eleven notched up by U2 and Madonna (ahead of him is Jimmy Barnes with 12 and The Beatles with 14), while his tally of weeks at No.1 now rises to 32 in total, tying him at equal twelfth on the listing for 'Accumulated Weeks at No.1: Albums' alongside Delta Goodrem and one week behind the recent 33rd week racked up by Michael Buble (Dec 2019) and two weeks away from matching the 34 weeks for Jimmy Barnes.

This is the tenth album with the word 'Music' in its title to hit the No.1 spot here (the last was a 'Glee: The Music' album in 2011), and the first for a 'Murdered' or even a 'Murder' at the ARIA Albums summit, with the previous high-charted murder being a No.2 placing for the Incubus set "A Crow Left of the Murder" (Feb., 2004). The new No.1 album also becomes the 307th by an American artist (male, female, solo, duo or group) and the 247th by a Solo Male Artist (local or overseas).

The third studio album for Halsey called "Manic" debuts at No.2 this week, becoming her third successive album to debut and peak in that position after "Badlands" (Sept 2015) and "hopeless kingdom fountain" (June 2017), both stayed within the Top 10 for a single week, so this new set spending a second week next week would be a new record for her!! The album features three current chart entries in the newest track "You Should be Sad" (TW-15, new peak), "Graveyard" (HP-24, TW-51) and "Without Me" (HP-2, TW-67).

The third successive debut in a row is the sixth studio and first posthumous album for rapper Mac Miller called "Circles", which by debuting at No.3 becomes his second Top 10 placing and now his highest charted ever in Australia, surpassing the No.7 peak of his last entry "Swimming" (peaked in 2018 after his passing), while overall this is his fourth albums chart entry here, as he also charted with "GO:OD AM" (HP-32, Oct., 2015) and "The Divine Feminine" (HP-13, Sept., 2016), with this new album placing three singles on the chart this week in "Good News" (43 to No.27, his highest charted single ever) and the new entries "Blue World" (TW-72) and the albums title track "Circles" (TW-94).

The three new entries at the top pushed down two places apiece the Harry Styles album "Fine Line", the Billie Eilish set "When We All Fall Asleep..." and current tourist Elton John's collection of hits in "Diamonds" to No.4, No.5 and No.6 respectively. Post Malone rises back up one spot to No.7 with "Hollywood's Bleeding" and last weeks No.1 entry for Selena Gomez and "Rare" falls down seven spots to No.8, the album taking the top spot in both Canada and America this week too. Further Top 10 drops are for the soundtrack 'Frozen 2' (5 to No.9) and the Ed Sheeran duets set "No.6 Collaborations Project" (7 to No.10).

any questions for this weeks charts?
Matthew Wilder - Break My Stride at #119

bulion, do you know why this song has a re-entry?
It’s because of a viral meme from Tiktok where you text the lyrics to someone until they figure it out.
Hi bulion,

Thanks for the info as always

Gearing up for the triple j Hottest 100 boost what did the following singles land at outside the Top 120?

Robbery - Lime Cordiale
Heavy Hearted - The Jungle Giants

I see both hit the Australian Artist Top 20 list.

Cheers.
James Blunt's 'Monsters' is how much?
198 - Robbery - Lime Cordiale (LW-202, HP-179)
199 - Heavy Hearted - The Jungle Giants (LW-234, HP-150)
272 * Sending Me UR Loving - Jungle Giants (NEW ENTRY)

-------------------------------------

Monsters by James Blunt has only appeared on the streaming chart at #331 as a debut this week and at No.18 on the digital singles chart (upon debut), but no T500 action as yet.
Matthew Wilder returns to the UK Singles chart this week, NateBoi, there's a full explanation here for its return too.
