Winona Oak at #1 with “Lonely Hearts Club”, making history on my Mid-Year chart, by become the first female Swedish 🇸🇪 artist, to rank at #1. Winona also made history by becoming the first female Alternative Music artist to reach #1, on my Personal Mid-Year chart.
Her strong emotive voice and relatable lyrics, make it the one of the ISO anthems, during this pandemic era. Perfect timing for the video launch in February, just as the Covid crisis shutdown loomed and stay at home laws.
The video clip was filmed in a mansion, possibly her house. It depicts her bored as she lives in a share house with her doppelgangers, aimlessly wanders around the house, looking lost, high or hungover, “trying to hold on, to what’s already gone”, maybe she is referring to the pre-COVID 2019 life, we all long for. She battles it out with the doppelgangers, as they lounge around the house 🏠 smoke cigs and push each other at the psychadelic style lights festival in her backyard.
It is one of the most memorable and relatable music videos of 2020 so far, suitable for the times, because of the at home isolation rules, which still are happening in some countries globally. The video has been viewed almost 1.2 million times on Youtuve. It’s the perfect quarantine anthem, unforgettable and such a relatable song and video concept.
Pussycat Dolls at #2, with “React”. Loved the live performances of the song, especially during January and February, who would’ve known or thought that one month later, the whole world suddenly has lockdowns due to COVID crisis. I’m so happy they conducted live performances with an actual live audience, like at the Sports UK show.
The choreography with the chairs in all their live performances, is well executed, flawless live vocals by Nicole. The video clip has incredible dancing on chairs 🪑 love the fire and water elements, splashing around, reminiscent of the “Buttons” choreography. It was a sexy video and I really missed them after a long 10 year absence as a group. Who knows when live performances with audiences will actually happen again?
Lady Gaga at #3, with her comeback song “Stupid Love”. I’m glad she launched this as the first single, it’s an uplifting dance song, which is what the world needs during this pandemic era. The video clip has some of the best choreography she has conducted, since the Alejandro video. The track debuted and peaked at #5 in United States 🇺🇸 She deserves a 2021 Grammy Nomination.
The Weeknd is at #4, with “Blinding Lights”, it’s one of the biggest hits of his career. Such powerful and soothing vocals, very Micheal Jackson style inspired video clip, amazing visuals, and the car 🚙 looks beautiful. Lovely song to listen to whilst driving around the city, unforgettable and catchy lyrics. An iconic and unique voice, and he is a front runner to receive 2021 Grammy Nominations.
Dua Lipa at #5, with “Don’t Start Now”. Such a booming powerful vocalist she is, loved her live performance at EMA’s and The Voice. Fantastic choreography, and the video clip setting and theme, perfectly suits the song. #2 in United States 🇺🇸 her highest charting song there and great chart longevity, crossover from 2019 into 2020. She deserves a 2021 Grammy Nomination.
Miley Cyrus is at #6 with “Slide Away”. Loved the live performance at MTV VMA’s, her sultry and husky live vocals, nice simple black dress. The video clip is fascinating to watch. She wonders around at a house party, looks hungover or high, and decides to dip in the swimming 🏊♂️ pool fully clothed and float around, just cause she feels like it.
Love the visuals and how she feels fed up, bored and losing her sense of reality at the party. Such a relatable song and video concept. Highly underrated track and deserved higher than #15 on Aria and Radio AirPlay charts. #1 hit in on charts in Belgium and Sweden.
The Chainsmokers “Side Effects”, at #7, such a big crossover smash hit on my Mid-Year chart. Flawless and booming vocals from Emily Warren. Love the video clips, when the cleaner becomes bored during her night shift and decides to dance around the hotel complex and pool area.
Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey and Miley Cyrus at #8, with “Don’t Call Me Angel”, such a fantastic idea for three of them to collaborate. The song reached #13 in United States and the video clip was entertaining to watch, great fight scenes, costumes, and all three girls they have intense chemistry with each other, it was quite sultry, especially in the scene when they shared grapes 🍇 at the dinner table scene.
Halsey is at #9, with “You Should Be Sad”. Love the crossover of genres in this song, an intriguing blend of pop, dance and country. Her husky vocals are powerful and the lyrics about her being helpful and her empathy being taken for granted, is quite interesting.
The video clips pays homage to Shania Twain, Carrie Underwood and Christina Aguilera! Loved the boot scooting choreography and the live performance during Saturday night live, when she rode on the Horse 🐴 machine. The song peaked at #26 in United States. Top 10 Radio AirPlay hit in Australia and #4 on Aria Chart. She truly deserves a 2021 Grammy Nomination.
Jelena Rozga is at #10, with “Sveto Pismo”. The video clip filmed back in February in Dubrovnik, Croatia 🇭🇷 In the clip, she has the whole city to herself and it’s not bad place to Quarantine in a UNESCO heritage site. During the video, Jelena is self isolating and wanders around the city, sightseeing on the rock walls, watching sunset, walks on steps and enjoys the city during the shutdown, an eerie foresight as the city was actually mostly empty in back in March, due to the COVID shutdown. Amazing scenery and a great tourism campaign for city. She made history by becoming 2nd female Croatian artist, to rank in the Top 10, of my Personal Mid-Year songs chart. ***************************************************

I know I don't post much around here anymore (heck, I haven't even posted my 2019 EOY, which I will get to eventually), but I thought I would provide my favourite songs as of mid-year.
With these mid-year lists, I tend to be picky on specifically only including songs coming out in 2020 (even late 2019 will not be included), so a couple of songs that would have otherwise made it (namely Doja Cat's "Say So" and SAINt JHN's "Roses (Imanbek Remix)") will not be included, but will probably still make my year-end list, as they have made a big enough impression on me this year that they will be the songs I think of when I cast my mind back to 2020 in future years.
As per previous years, I'm only listing my fifty favourites (in alphabetical order), and due to there being limited spaces and plenty of music I would love to share, I will only include my favourite song from an artist, even if they would have many songs in a top 50 overall. There is no reason for me to order them just yet.
In saying that though, my favourite ten of the fifty will be put in bold, so you have a greater idea of what I'm really loving so far this year.
Anyway, without further ado, the fifty:
