Forum - Other Charts: Australia - Non ARIA - Australian sales reported in Billboard (1970-1988)As an avid follower of the Australian charts for the past 15 years, I decided to put in one place all the Australian sales figures reported in the Billboard magazine.
All these figures were found thanks to the following website:
https://worldradiohistory.com/Billboard-Magazine.htm The years covered are 1970-1989.
There are some doubts on some albums figures as accreditations' criterias often changed between 1970 and late 1985 (see the comments at the bottom of boards).
Unfortunately, the presentation doesn't look great as the figures come from Excel sheets.
I hope they can provide some enjoyment nonetheless.

Thank you for all these extra certs.
In regards to pre-1989 accreditations, nelson posted the following message in the 1986 thread (
https://australian-charts.com/forum.asp?todo=viewthread&id=27219&pages=4): "ARIA Yearbook 1996 said...
From January 1, 1989 the Gold and Platinum achievement levels have been a consistent 35,000 and 70,000 respectively for both singles and albums. Up to that date, the singles level was set at 50,000 and 100,000 for Gold and Platinum respectively. The level for albums has not changed over the period. Although not officially recognised with awards, multi-platinum achievements are noted on the ARIA charts and as such have been included.

AMR as bulion had posted had all singles Gold/50,000, Platinum/100,000, not sure about albums, as Billboard reported would be gold/50,000, Platinum/100,000, as ARIA or ARIA yearbook didn't responsible for that period prior to 1986, had to ask David Kent to verify it."
Apparrently, the albums accreditations have been Gold = 35,000 and Platinum = 70,000 since at least 1986 (possibly before as there's a mention of a Gold album being 35,000 units in a September 1985 Billboard issue).
In regards to the ARIA certs for pre-1989 releases that were certified after 1988 (so Platinum = 70, Gold = 35k), you will find other ones posted by nelson in the following thread:
https://australian-charts.com/forum.asp?todo=viewthread&id=41980&pages=2 Check November 1996 when Warner massively certified a lot of their best selling albums.
1989 has just been added, which means that the 1980s are now complete
Thanks for 1989. There are a lot of pre-1989 albums that are undercertified/not certified when they should be, it seems.
Another early ARIA certification uncovered: Cheap Trick 'Lap of Luxury' - Platinum, 9/1/1989.
