so I'm a little behind on 2021 music and I said I wouldn't vote until I caught up but seeing Warm Tunas made me really excited to get my vote in and I'd also pretty much decided my 10 songs (pretty easily) yesterday as well

**Just in case I'd like to clarify that by me "seeing Warm Tunas" I just meant that the whole excitement of Warm Tunas and the voting process starting made me motivated to send my vote in. I strongly believe it did not influence my vote. Last edited:
I also have only allowed one vote per artist, and added one song (though it was there when I searched for it, just not on the main list?)
Here they are (in alphabetical order) CHVRCHES - How Not To Drown (ft. Robert Smith) Dry Cleaning - Strong Feelings Gang Of Youths - the angel of 8th ave Ladyhawke & Broods - Guilty Love London Grammar - Lord It’s A Feeling Maple Glider - Good Thing RUFUS DU SOL - On My Knees Sharon Van Etten & Angel Olsen - Like I Used To The War On Drugs - I Don’t Live Here Anymore (ft. Your first point implies that maybe you've looked at Warm Tunas or something to draw such a conclusion. Can we please avoid any spoilers in this thread? Otherwise, you can hide it behind a link (E.g. type your thoughts on pastebin, and show the link here with a spoiler warning).
There's some/many that want to enjoy the Hottest 100 with no predictions at all and it'd be great if we can preserve that for them as best we can.
If there's enough interest, we could create another Triple J Hottest 100 thread for those that want to discuss spoilers and predictions.

I am very excited to run a little predictions competition for the Hottest 100 this year. It will be as we normally do, a prediction for the top 10, #50, #69, and #100 but thanks to the extra top 200 day we will also predict #101, #150, and #200. I will also create 10 additional fun little questions as well which will be posted after the voting period closes.
You may use any sources you like to inform your predictions, but as a result, can I ask that everyone memos their predictions to me to avoid any potential spoilers for those that do not wish to seek such information. Those people are also very welcome to play too!
Final details and questions will be posted here when voting closes but I just wanted to let people known in advance.
This is a list of songs I voted and not, as it appears, a larger list truncated alphabetically
Ocean Grove - CALI SUN RedHook - Bad Decisions RÜFÜS DU SOL - Next To Me RÜFÜS DU SOL - On My Knees Skegss - Bunny Man Sly Withers - Clarkson Sly Withers - Breakfast Taylor Swift - All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault) The Amity Affliction - Like Love Trophy Eyes - 27 Club
(Fun fact: this is the 4th time I've voted precisely 2 RÜFÜS songs, after Innerbloom & You Were Right in 2015, Lost In My Mind & Underwater in 2018, and Innerbloom & Desert Night in the EOD )
Something else I'd like to note: the voting list is contained in the source code of the voting page, and each song has an "is_official" field set to either 1 or 0. It starts with the 991 songs that are on the list, all of which have their "is_official" as 1, except for 2 songs that I believe were initially on the list but removed because they're not actually from 2021 (Lime Cordiale - Ticks Me Off and The Avalanches - We Will Always Love You) (but The Kid LAROI - WITHOUT YOU, which I believe the same applies for, is not present at all) (while Slowly Slowly - Low, which came out in December 2019, is still fully there). But at the end, there are another 60 songs with "is_official" as 0, which seem to be a collection of write-ins that have been appended to the list in an invisible sense (they don't appear on the webpage, just in the source code). Some of them are popular songs but some look very random (and one, Mac Miller - The Spins, though a current Spotify hit, is from 2010). I don't know what purpose they serve but my guess is that they've added them to their tracking system to count their votes, or something like that. I thought it could be to make them autocomplete when you go to the write-in page, but that actually has a search that seems to use a separate file called "spotify.json" that contains 29,225 songs (perhaps everything that's been imported from Spotify playlists?). These are the 60 songs and their "created_at" dates:
All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault)
Smokin Out The Window
Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic
The Kiss Of Venus (Dominic Fike)

That's interesting 392, I was wondering which songs if any had been added. I suspect you're right with the spotify.json file, I'm no expert on programming but that seems like it would just accumulate and list all the songs imported. Also worth remembering that JJJ rules will allow some releases from late in the previous year to be eligible, such as KGLW's 'O.N.E' and Pist Idiots' 'Street Fighter', but I'm not sure if this applies to any of the other ones you listed there.
Hey everyone! I hope you're all really exciting for Hottest 100 happening this weekend. As per tradition and for a little fun, I'll run a prediction competition for some extra excitement as the countdown progresses. This year, I will use a "scale" points system where I will award maximum points if you predict a song in its correct place, and will subtract points depending on how far away your prediction is compared to its final position.
For example, #69 has 10 maximum points available. If you correctly guess #69, you are awarded the full 10 points. If you are 1 position away at #68 or #70, you are given 9 points. 8 points are given for #67 or #71 and the pattern continues until all available points are exhausted.
The points available will be as follows: #200 - 20 points available #150 - 20 points available #101 - 15 points available #100 - 15 points available #69 - 10 points available #50 - 10 points available #10 to #6 - 5 points available each #5 to #1 - 3 points available each
In addition to this, here is a quick quiz! (20 points available) Each question worth 1 point unless otherwise specified:
Q1: Will a 2021 ARIA #1 make the countdown and if so, which will be the highest? (2 points)
Q2: How many LAVs will feature in the top 200? (2 points) a) 3 or less b) 4-5 c) 6-7 d) 7+
Q3: Which act will place the most entries in the top 200? (4 points)
Q4: Will we break the record of the most songs in the top 100 from Australian artists? 2020 and 2016 hold the record with 66 songs, while 2017-2019 are one step behind with 65. (Y/N) (2 points)
And some quick h2hs. Who will have the highest place song in each battle? (1 point each)
Q5 - Battle of the teenagers: Billie Eilish vs. Olivia Rodrigo
Q6 - Battle of Brisbane: Ball Park Music vs. The Jungle Giants
Q7 - Battle of the Sydney Northern Beaches: Lime Cordiale vs. Ocean Alley
Q8 - Battle of these recent ARIA Rock Album winners: Amyl and the Sniffers vs. Middle Kids
Q9 - All-girl groups: The Buoys vs. Teenage Joans
Q10 - Former Hottest 100 #1s: The Rubens vs. Vance Joy
Q11 - A classic metalcore matchup: The Amity Affliction vs. Bring Me The Horizon
Q12 - US Female Rappers: Cardi B vs. Lizzo
Q13 - Stalwart UK Bands: Glass Animals vs. The Wombats
Q14 - Indigenous acts: Baker Boy vs. King Stingray
You are allowed to do any research that could inform your predictions and answers. However, I understand that there are some that do not wish to look at Warm-Tunas or any other vote-gathering resource. That is totally fine! If you are not looking at Warm-Tunas or the like, could you let me know when you submit your prediction? If there's enough of you, I could create a separation division for people that did not do such research.
A reminder to please submit your entries to me only via memo. Please submit them before 10am AEDST on Friday 21st, which is when the Hottest 200-101 begins. Good luck! Last edited:
